20 Best Sunscreen For Older Skin (Feb 2023 Update)

Pros: this product doesn't sting my sensitive eyes, and it prevents sunburn. Cons: It settles into the lines of my skin and makes them white. I end up with white lines across my neck, and the visual effect is similar to old age stage makeup. It makes the lines look deeper and more severe. Also, the performance under makeup is appallingly bad. Utterly woeful. I tried it with Bareminerals Barepro pressed powder, and I also tried it with the Lisa Eldridge longwearing liquid foundation, and the makeup looked nice when I first applied it, but then it quickly degraded over the next few hours. The powder foundation cracked so badly that it ended up looking like I had flaky snake scales all over my face. I was still at work, and I took a tissue and savagely wiped away the worst bits. The longwearing foundation fared better, but it split and cracked like a desert floor. The foundation I've been using instead for everyday wear, that doesn't sting my eyes but plays well with makeup, is the Supergoop Play. I get the big jug of it and use it on my face and body, and my makeup sits on top of it beautifully. I would recommend the anthelios for a hike, or some other activity where you'll be in the sun but your appearance doesn't matter.Cydni

I’ve recently started purchasing La Roche Posay products and am super happy with my purchase’s. This is the last thing I bought. I’m totally in love with it. It applies perfectly on my face and arms and leaves no white cast. Normally I spend $38-$65 dollars just for my face sunscreen but no more. This one is top dog now. It’s mostly physical with a tad bit of chemical but I’m ok with that. I use to try so hard and use products that were 100% clean and they are so expensive but what people don’t realize is there are non clean ingredients in practically everything. Makeup, skincare, hair products, ect. At least with La Roche Posay I don’t worry about it. It’s fragrance free and doesn’t have sulfates and the majority of the other bad stuff. This brand was made for sensitive skin and mine sure does love it. I’ve been using their face and body wash for dry to extra dry skin on my face then their face and body cream on my face followed by this amazing sunscreen. Who says you have to spend a fortune on skincare for it to work? Next product of theirs I want to try is the hylaronic acid serum. It’s a combination of big and small molecules to reach the surface of the skin and I believe 15 layers deep. Sounds amazing! It's unscented, and water-based with none of the unhealthy ingredients that are already banned in other countries, but that can be sold legally in US cosmetics. It also contains some good ingredients such as niacinamide. The tint works for my light skin. It looks dark when it comes out of the tube but blended in well and has just enough pigment to even skintone without looking like you are wearing makeup. (For reference, my skin tone is about the same as Neutrogena Healthy Skin products in Fair to Light 20 tone.) It has a warm undertone, so would probably be better for people with the same. I'm not sure if it would leave a light cast for darker skin tones, but I don't believe it would leave that ghostly white cast some zinc oxide sunscreens do. I use this sunscreen every day. After cleansing my face, I use a generous amount of PC toner. Before the toner dries, I put on a generous amount of the sunscreen and spread it all over my face and neck. It takes a minute to settle in. Then I apply a very minimal amount of foundation with a foundation brush just to give a very polished look. The routine works great for me. Looks very natural. My husband uses a PC toner and this sunscreen. He likes it because it doesn't give a white pasty film on his face. It just disappears on his skin. He would never use it if it looked like he had makeup on! I'm glad he is protecting his handsome face.Omaud

I keep buying this one. Love it. Love the high spf, love that it absorbs well and then during the day it doesn't cause any streaks or lines or anything. I am 40 and I discovered Paula in my 20s. Since my 20s, spf is my buddy, I always wear sunscreen regardless of whether I am working at pc all day and inside or out and about. Plus love all other skin stuff Paula has. I do not use much make up like foundation so I pretty much just put bha or aha and then sunscreen moisturizer on my face for all day wear. Maybe cuz of Paula, I dont use make up. Haha. This goes on smoothly, evenly, and moisturizes my face. It soaps in quickly and dries to a smooth finish within 15-30 min. Most SPF moisturizers I have encountered stay tacky most of the day; especially when you sweat. This stays smooth regardless of sweating. I have reapplied it during the day before gardening, and, again, it soaked in quickly without being tacky. It offers great sun protection and along with my other PC products seems to help even skin tone. I will be using this as my daytime moisturizer from here on out. I had high hopes for this sunscreen as I am a frequent user of Cetaphil products due to my highly sensitive and eczema prone skin. I've been wearing it every day while out and about in the southern heat and humidity. I will say that it is effective in that it doesn't melt off when I sweat and I definitely haven't gotten any sunburns while wearing it. It doesn't sting when I apply and has no scent. However, there is a reason it says "Ideal for under makeup" on the bottle. The white cast it leaves on your skin is intense. It has covered well with makeup (I use bareminerals original foundation), but there is no way you could use this and just walk out the door with nothing else over it. I have olive skin so I'm sure that doesn't help the situation. If you're looking for an under makeup sunscreen, this could be great for you. I however, enjoy not wearing makeup quite often so once I use this up, I won't be buying again.MamaAllDay

This is a lightweight mineral sunscreen, advertised as ideal for application under makeup. Wait, as far as I am aware, sunscreen should be applied as the last step in your skincare routine. Hm? Anyway, it worked for my skin, however, it is very basic, and it has a minimal white cast. I had to blend it well in order to avoid it. Be careful applying it over your makeup, because it is not fully transparent (minimal white cast). It did not cause any irritation/dryness, and it is lightweight as advertised. However, I am not sure if this sunscreen is reef safe. The other reviews are correct— this Cetaphil Sheer Liquid Sunscreen pills and flakes horribly. I have been using it for almost a year now and I own two bottles. I have applied it every way possible with the same unpleasant results on my face. The key to application with this product is to (1) squeeze a nickel to quarter sized amount in the palm of your hand (2) rub your palms (hands) together and then (3) gently pat the sunscreen onto your face like you are making hand paint impressions in art class. (4) keep patting until you don’t see the white cast. (5) if you need more coverage, repeat these same steps. When I apply this way, I do not get flaking and pulling. Trust me on this one, I’ve applied it other ways and I was out in these streets looking crazy. My husband even called me out a few times, like “what are those white flakes on your face?” I’ve tried other brands like Australian Gold and Coppertone but this Cetaphil sunscreen is the only one that actually keeps me from burning (that means it is working to block sun rays) and I would purchase it again until I find something better.Lena

I personally love this product because I have very dry dehydrated skin! This makes my skin look and feel light-weight and luminous at the same time. I would definitely recommend this product for dry skin that isn’t super sensitive and even if you have normal skin type and you are looking for that clean gorgeous glow this is it!! I also love how hydrating this is, it is like a moisturizing sunscreen. If you are scared to be to glowy then you could definitely try skipping your daily moisturizer in the morning and just go in with this at the end of your skincare routine. I wouldn’t say that this sunscreen is heavy, I think it is very lite-weight and long lasting with no white cast which I love!! Hydro UV Defense is a broad spectrum SPF 50+ sunscreen gifted by Laneige for review. Adore this brand and was considerably excited to try their new sunscreen. First of all, it has a clear finish and more importantly: no stinging of the eyes! Unsure if this sunscreen is water resistant but it held up great during outdoor exercise. A big plus since I’ve unfortunately had painful experiences with other sunscreens. Application leaves my dry skin looking dewy and hydrated. It layers well with other skincare and has a light non-irritating scent which disappears quickly after application. It’s also dermatologist tested and hypoallergenic.teapear

By far my favorite sunscreen! I have medium/tan combo skin with olive undertones and this disappears beautifully following cleansing and toning with zero white cast. At times I forget to moisturize on top of it and nothing slides off of it all day. Even with moisturizer it does not make my face oily, which is a godsend. Many users have commented on the scent but quite honestly, I think it smells fresh and quite lovely and not at all like the typical sunscreen smell. I originally tried this out after having a reaction to the cult favorite UV Clear–I think my skin disagrees with the niacinimide in that formulation. Anyway, I was happy with the quality of EltaMD, but looking for something more moisturizing for my combination/dry skin and I found it in UV Facial. This is an incredibly moisturizing and rich formula that does not leave a white cast on my pale skin. It will leave an ever so slight shine on your face, which translates to a glow on my skin, so if you are oily or prefer a completely matte look then this product probably isn't for you. I find it wears lovely under my foundation–something that can be a challenge with sunscreens. I love this formula so much but had to knock a star off because of the use of chemical filters. If this sunscreen was purely physical it would be a 5/5 holy grail formulation. I keep testing out all-mineral sunscreens and always come back to this one. I use this as my daily sunscreen! Honestly I haven’t had a lot of luck with many sunscreens because of white-cast, oiliness, etc, but this one has been the best formula of the ones I’ve tried in the past. It’s a lightweight formula but you can definitely feel it on your face for the first 20 minutes after applying. It definitely protects your skin and it feels like a clean product, and not too heavy. It has a slight white-cast that goes away after a minute of rubbing in. My only downsides are that it leaves an oily/glossy finish (which I personally dislike) and that it pills with other products. The gloss isn’t terrible, you can certainly cover it up with some powder, but not too bad alone. It definitely can pill so I have opted out from using it with makeup or serums. I keep my morning skincare routine very minimal (just wash and moisturize) so that this sunscreen will not pill. I’ve had it pill before with the cerave vitamin c serum. I have literally tried over 20 sunscreens. Finding one that checks all the boxes ingredient wise and that had a nice finish is nearly impossible. Actually, this is the only sunscreen that has met all my criteria. It also makes my skin look and feel amazing. I have acne prone skin, I’m combo oily, I don’t like feeling anything on my face, and I enjoy makeup. I’m also on a retinoid. I have been using this sunscreen for over a year, and continue to come back to it when I go exploring to see if there’s something better. So far, there isn’t! The finish is natural. It’s not too shiny and not too matte. It literally just makes my skin look healthy and moisturized but not oily at all. There is absolutely no white cast. It does not pill under any makeup I’ve tried. It layers up beautifully. I’ve reapplied 3 times in a day and it manages to stay silky and not cakey on my skin. It does have a very mild, pleasant scent- which is great because I hate fragrances in products or ones that smell naturally of battery acid. It does not sting around my eyes AT ALL. It also has the added benefits of improving my skin texture and look of my complexion. Though it doesn’t add coverage, per say, I can go without my powder foundation when wearing this. I've been looking for a sunscreen for my extremely sensitive and rosacea-prone oily skin. This sunscreen blends in quickly (it's a liquidy texture rather than a cream) and makes skin look brighter and smoother – somehow healthier. It may leave a bit of a white cast, but I don't mind because it tones down my redness. Pores look a bit smoother. It doesn't slide around and make an oily mess on the face like many sunscreens do on me after a few hours of wear. It gives a "glowy" finish without being overly oily or greasy. I love the simple ingredients and that it doesn't cause any irritation, and I cause use it around my sensitive eyes without stinging or bothering my contacts. As a person of color, I have found in the past that other tinted sunscreens I've tried are targeted to much lighter skin tones than mine, which is frustrating. My skin is also a combination of dry with a very oily t-zone as well as sensitive to harsh chemicals and fragrances. This has caused me to break out or appear greasy when trying other products. However, the Solaire UV Mineral Multi-Defense Tinted Sunscreen addressed both these issues for me beautifully. I decided to test this free sample I received from BzzAgent on a day my daughter had a softball tournament because I knew I'd be at the field in full sun all day. The formulation felt smooth and lightweight on my face, which I appreciate as someone who rarely wears foundation. I was pleasantly surprised that the tint blended perfectly with my skin tone. Imperfections in my skin were slightly hidden while still appearing very natural, which I prefer. I reapplied the sunscreen once later in the day and was pleased that there was no flaking, build up, or noticeable issue with the application. I even shared it with a fellow team mom who had forgotten her sunscreen, and she also loved the lightweight feel and coverage. Overall, I really enjoyed using this product and would recommend it to all my POC who've had difficulty finding a time sunscreen that works with darker skin. Absolutely awful sunscreen. I understand that mineral sunscreen will always have some type of white cast, but this one was terrible. I had people come up to me in public and ask me what was on my face! LOL! It was that bad!! I'm like a 2 on the fitz scale so I'm pretty light skin and the cast was just so bad. It also felt very chalky, & drying on my face, yet at the same time looked greasy and felt heavy. This sunscreen really clung to, and accentuated dry patches on my face that I didn't even know was there. It burned upon application too, which I was so disappointed about because I heard fairly good things about this brand being good for people with sensitize skin. From the reviews this looked amazing, and I had been eyeing this brand for a long time. I finally decided to get it after running out of my normal sunscreen. I was immediately in love with the smell and the feel on my hands, but the second I put it on my face, it felts so heavy. It's so greasy, it makes my face look like i'm constantly sweating, I'm always shiny and it does not dry down. While there's no white cast, you will look extremely greasy all day, and your makeup will move. My biggest concern with this product was my skin. I have spent 2 years getting my skin clear after dealing with severe chronic acne. Within 1 week of using this product, I was getting huge painful pimples in places I have never had acne before (my cheeks and jawline!), as soon as I stopped using this sunscreen, my skin has started to heal. I really wish I could like this product, and I'm glad it worked for so many others, but I do recommend being cautious. Oh, my god. I have had major sensory issues my whole life and the feeling of putting on sunblock has always been a viscerally uncomfortable, torturous experience lol. I have tried every texture of sunscreen from sprays to regular cream sunscreens to serum-types that are supposed to blend in easily, but they all still felt awful on my skin. Supergoop Play is THE FIRST sunblock I have EVER tried that is genuinely comfortable to apply and wear!! The texture feels somehow miraculously like a skincare cream, super light and cooling, and doesn't feel sticky or goopy at all. I use this on face and body and I can honestly barely feel it on my face– it's so much better than so many face-specific sunscreens I've tried! (There's no white cast, either!) There's a lovely light scent that's not at all like a typical sunscreen. I also love love love Unseen Sunscreen but Play Everyday is perfect for days where I need more protection. I was using uv clear for a while, however it really hurt to pay that much for sunscreen that you’re supposed to use every day and use liberally. I get a little over 3X more product with Supergoop, and it’s still cheaper. I was on the hunt from something that wouldn’t break the bank, and, at the same time, had an elegant feel/look to it. I finally found it. Relative to what all is out there, this is much more affordable, without compromising on the quality of the product. It definitely makes you glowy, maybe even a slightly greasy, but I prefer this to a matte finish. I also live in a very hot and humid climate, we all look a little dewy anyways. I would rate this 1 million stars if I could. I'm an esthetician and use a ton of products. But this has remained my number one favorite. I use this as my everyday foundation. It is insane how much more confident I feel the second I put on this product. It makes my skin so glowy and hydrated, and evens out any redness on my face. I have converted clients of all fitzpatricks to this. I would suggest possibly putting out a paler tint and a darker tint, because the tint can pull orange on fitz 1/2. I want to love the **** out of this stuff I really do. I think what’s mainly throwing me off is this is a sunscreen and not a foundation. Which I 100% knew that when I bought it, but it’s obviously something to get use to if you mainly use foundation. I do have rosacea and by no means does it cover it up or any other blemishes I have, but it does give a nice tint. It gives your face a little bit of coverage all while looking extremely natural! Which I love! First time applying this I used a makeup brush and I didn’t like the finish. Second time was my finger tips and that looked a lot better. It’s extremely blendable when blended in with your fingers. I love that this is a sunscreen so I’m not so worried about “messing” my face up. Overall it’s a good product. Alastin’s tinted sunscreen is the BEST. As you can see in the picture it looks darker than my actual skin tone, but it blends perfectly. A little bit goes a long way and I do not have to reapply throughout the day. I started using this product around 6 years ago and will faithfully continue to be dedicated purchaser of Alastin products. They have many products I use, but the tinted sun screen is my favorite (next is a toss up between their cleanser and restorative skin complex). I use it everyday and only purchase it 2x a year. Another bonus is if you are in a hurry and don’t have time to put on makeup, this covers just enough. The price has recently increased to $60, but you get more product than before.lauren.p

So this was my first time purchasing this specific kind of sunscreen from Bare Republic. I normally use the regular one that isn’t clear. Not a fan of the feel of the sunscreen. It has like little beads or something in it and feels weird as your putting it on. My kids didn’t like it. It does dry clear so that is accurate. It doesn’t smell like mango to me but that isn’t a big deal. It’s the ingredients that I’m not a big fan of. It’s not as clean as I thought it was. I much prefer their regular sunscreen. I wouldn’t buy again or recommend it if you care about what’s in your sunscreen. Disclosure: I received a sample of this product from Poshly for free in exchange for a fair and honest review. I ended up using this product twice this weekend and loved it. The first thing I noticed was the scent. It has a nice scent to it and I really enjoyed that it is not an overpowering scent and that it doesn't smell like coconut since most other sunscreens do. It came out in a light mist, so I didn't have to worry about it going on too thickly and not being able to absorb. After I sprayed it on, I didn't really even notice it was there because it wasn't greasy. While wearing this product I was working in my garden and appreciated that the dirt, mud, etc. wasn't clinging to the sunscreen as I worked. After I was done outside I took a shower and had no issue with the water repelling off my skin due to the remaining sunscreen. It also didn't leave any residue on my clothing. Finally, while wearing this product in direct sunlight for two hours, I have no signs of a sunburn or redness on my skin. I recommend this product and will continue using it in the future.Dream W.

I am going to Hawaii so I went to Target to get reef safe/friendly sunscreen. I looked at all the different options and I bought 4 different kinds. This Bare sunscreen leaves no white residue/white cast, it’s Hawaii reef compliant, water resistant AND it’s 100 spf! I definitely like this one the best. I also tried the Target brand Up&Up mineral 50spf, Neutrogena Sheer Mineral 50spf, and Coppertone Pure&Simple Kids mineral 50spf. Those all had white residue probably due to the zinc/minerals. Target only had the Bare Face but not the Body, I would love to try the Bare Body Clearscreen in the future as well!April G.

Excellent eye cream, it plumps and smoothes the lines of my undereye area. I apply generously 10-15mins before makeup, and let it absorbe. It makes it a visible difference almost immediately and seems to help with the skin appearance in the mid-long term. It contains some retinol (not sure how much), but it is gentle enough for the delicate skin around the eyes. I find that if I apply it on the eyelid too close to the lashline, it eventually goes into the eyes (and it stings!), so I keep a safe distance.manuela.g

I've just received the cream, and I applied it in the morning after exfoliating my face and putting on a water-based toner. Pros: -The cream feels pretty lightweight on the skin, seems that it can be suitable for oily skin -Usually it is recommended that Retinol should not be used in the day, but with an SPF30, it seems that this can be used in daytime as well. -Fragrance is not too strong, and smells rather refreshing Cons: -There isn't any information on how strong the % of Retinol is in the formula, but I'm guessing that the % is quite low, as it did not mention Retinol at all other than the product name. -If you want to put other skincare products or makeup over this cream, you have to do it immediately after you apply this cream, or not there will be bits all over your face. I'm pretty sure that this is due to the film that the product forms on your face after it settled to protect the moisture in your skin or to protect your skin from the UV light, coz I find that many other sunscreen also has this problem. -People with sensitive skin should still try a bit on a small part of your skin (perhaps not your face) first before you try out this product. -People who dislike fragrance could find having a fragrance a con -I didn't put this product too near my eyes, so I don't find the product sting. I do not usually leave reviews but I hope this can help someone. I am 33 years old and have been using this product for about 2 years (along with the night cream) and have seen wonders. I broke out super bad 2 years ago (first time this happened but I think it was my makeup products) and tried several products but nothing seemed to work. I purchased an acne product, which seemed to work but was leaving my face super dried. After researching and in addition to my acne products, I decided to purchase the ROC day cream, ROC night cream, ROC eye cream and a Vitamin C Serum and all I receive are compliments of my skin. I have not changed my skin regime since. This moistures my skin very well, leaves it soft and is also delaying any visible signs of aging. BUT, you must be consistent. I have not missed a day/night routine and I truly believe this is what has helped. You cannot test it for a week and expect immediate results. It took about 3 months for my face to clear up and finally glow again but I am so so so glad I did not stop. These creams last me a few months so it's a great price for a great product. The first sunscreen I have liked enough to finish the bottle. The best thing about it is that it's light enough that you can't feel it on your face- it doesn't stay greasy or rub off on everything you own (like some other mineral sunscreens do) so it is very practical for every day usage. As for the cast, I am light skinned with neutral undertones and it does leave a slight blue-ish cast on my face. It is not bad though and if you rub it in all the way it is hardly noticeable. If you notice no cast at all you are not using nearly enough and not getting the full SPF 30. I would recommend removing this before reapplying because at the end of the day if you have several layers on your face from reapplication, I found that if I scratch my face even lightly that it collects so much product under my fingernails. Additionally, if it gets in my hair it kind of gets stuck and then flakes at the end of the day. This is why I give it 4 stars instead of 5, and also because I wish it came in higher SPF as well. I'm looking for the most practical and convenient sunscreen for every day use and I think this is the best at this price point. I finished the bottle in about a month and a half- that is with daily use on my face and neck with at least two reapplications (two finger lengths worth of product each time).christinemaie

I just got this and I know it’s a winner. I purchased the Biossance mineral sunscreen and I didn’t care for it, mainly because it did not absorb into my skin (think layer of cream) and would run off my face when I’d sweat. Not cute :/ or comfortable. So I decided to switch to Dr. Dennis Gross and let me tell you… it absorbs into my skin like a dream, leaves no white cast (I have a light olive complexion), and the packaging is yellow! (I like yellow). I’m joking about the packaging, I’m sure there is more to love, but I can’t think of anything else at the moment. My main concerns are absorption and no white cast and those are met. Maybe in a few weeks I’ll see if there is a difference in my skin. The only thing though is the price. Yes, it’s higher than I’d like, but at the same time it is a quality sunscreen and in a skincare routine the sunscreen is the most important step… so I guess I’ll let it slide. For reference, I have normal to dry skin, packed with hyperpigmentation, pores and fine lines because I didn’t take the proper care/protection when I was young. I thought that I was not going to like this sunscreen but I actually do, and a lot! PROS: – Physical sunscreen: even being a full physical sunscreen, it doesn’t leave too much of a white cast. – It doesn’t irritate my eyes: because of being a physical sunscreen, I can apply it around my eyes and over my lids. Chemical sunscreens irritate my eyes. – Lightweight and easy to apply. – It worked well under my makeup but I needed to use a matte finish foundation to compensate the glowy finish that the sunscreen left on my skin (I apply quite a lot to get the SPF advertised) – It has some skincare ingredients but I don’t rely on my sunscreen to get what my aging skin needs (other than the SPF, of course) – Non scented formula: it doesn’t have any perfumes so it is perfect for any sensitive face out there – Reef safe. – Clean at Sephora. CONS – It is quite pricey, and that’s the only reason to give only 4 stars. – Applying liberally, as the brand recommends and as every sunscreen should be applied to get the level of protection in the label, you will end up with a very glowy finish. It still works with my makeup but I have to avoid glowy foundations or it would be too much glow. I love this sunscreen so much. I've been trying a ton, and I keep coming back and reaching for this one. The texture is light and mousse-like, easy to spread, and just feels really good going on. Once it's on, I don't feel it at all–there's none of the tightness or dry cracking feeling some mineral sunscreens leave (I have combination skin). The light tint is perfect for my complexion, none of the orangeness some sunscreens have for me. It doesn't transfer once dried down, and the finish is a beautiful matte almost foundation like finish. I love the blurring effect–it evens out my redness and hyperpigmentation without looking heavy or cakey or emphasizing lines or wrinkles (I'm 42). I wish it was SPF 50, but I love this for lower exposure days. The tint, as I mentioned, is perfect for me, but I also wish there was a variety of shades available so people with darker skin tones could use this as well.QueenBee

I use this product daily as it is the only sunscreen based product that truly works on my very oily, pale & sensitive skin. It minimises pores and more importantly protects against UVA rays (most beauty products only protect against UVB rays). I would rate at 5 stars if it was available in factor 50, which I really need. The first thing I want to say is this: anyone who gave this sunscreen five stars is either not applying nearly enough of it, or is putting lots of powder foundation over it. For the price, it is in the same category as skinceuticals sunscreens, murad, eltaMD and is, quite frankly, a joke of a sunscreen for $60. SPF 30?? Not even water resistant? I have dry skin and after applying the appropriate amount of this for adequate UV protection, my face is white and greasy. The chemists that made this should be ashamed!! SPF 30 mineral/chemical combo (NOT water resistant) should apply invisible and be sheer, even if it is moisturizing. I have used SPF 50 100% MINERAL water resistant sunscreens that wear like this does and for MUCH cheaper. The ONLY thing this has over ANY drugstore sunscreen is that it is fragrance free. I cannot think of a single reason to use this over countless other terrible sunscreens even if it were a reasonable price.Anonymous

I love the texture and a little goes a long way. This is my new favorite! Blends in so nicely and wears with or without makeup. I like the secure bottling so you don't lose too much product and you can control the dispenser so nothing goes to waste. I have very sensitive rosacea skin and this sunscreen is a lifesaver! I've been using it for several years now, it does not irritate my skin at all, on the other hand it feels moisturizing and actually calms my skin down, and best of all it does not make me break out like so many other sunscreens, yay! I know it's only SPF 30, but I even wear it to the beach in Southern California on the hottest sunny days and I never get burned at all, it definitely compares to a SPF 50. No unpleasant smell or weird texture. Yes it's a bit pricey, but it's a big bottle and lasts me all year, this is a winner!!Anonymous

Picked one of the smaller sizes of these up in the sale as I’ve not tried it before, and I absolutely love it!! Definitely up there with my favourite sunscreens of all time. The texture reminds me very much of La Roche Posay shaka fluid, it’s very light and watery, however I’d say the finish on this is definitely less greasy. Left no white cast and smells lovely! I’ve tried tonnes of sunscreens at both the higher and lower end price points and this one really stood out as a great, every day wearable one. I find many to be too greasy and thick/not fun to wear or that leave a white cast/ sting your eyes etc but this one did none of those things – I will definitely be buying more of these when they come back in stock! I lent some of this to my family when we were out for a walk last week and they all commented the same, that it was a super nice sunscreen! Can see why it’s a cult classic!Maizeballs

No cast on my medium-type skintone. It also seems to hydrate my skin since I noticed if my moisturizer still left me with dry-feeling skin, this would help. The big negative for me its not sweat resistant, so if I put it around my eyes, and I sweat even a bit the solution seeps in my eye and then it hurts and I have to remove it. This is the only reason I will not buy this sunscreen again because otherwise it was fine! Other sunscreen products did not cause this sweating issue. I have to say, this is one of the better sunscreens I have used. I had been using another brand that was tinted, but I really was looking for an untinted sunscreen because it was always rubbing off on my clothes, mask, etc. I really wanted a 100% mineral sunscreen, but this hybrid version is great. I think it's nearly impossible to have a 100% mineral sunscreen with no white cast (and untinted), so I settled for a hybrid and I think it's worth it. No stinging/irritating the eyes so far, and no white cast! For it being fragrance free, it also does not smell bad. And the price point is great! My only complaint (which is why I am taking away one star) is the packaging. I love the look- very clean, modern, high-end looking, but it is so wasteful! The bottle is clearly way bigger than what is inside- WHY??? Why not just make a smaller bottle that holds all of the product without the extra wasted plastic? Not to mention, it would fit in bags/travel easier. It makes me think the sole purpose is to deceive you that you're receiving more product than what you are. Please consider repackaging and I would give 5 stars!John D.

The best SPF is the one you want to apply and THIS one is it for me!! No eye or skin irritation. I needed something I could quickly apply, especially in the early mornings before kid school drop off with no white cast, no greasy feel. I love it. I apply in layers going section by section from forehead down all the way to neck/chest. Applies so nicely. Starts out white then sheers out as you work it in. No strong SPF smell. Dries down to a healthy skin sheen. Not shiny but that healthy-skin glow you don’t even want to cover with make up! Thank you DRMTLGY! I have tried SO many SPF’s both chemical and Mineral. This hybrid formula I can’t live without. I actually find myself re-applying throughout the day — like I’m supposed to! I apply over my moisturizer, 1 finger length (about 6-8 pumps) per section (forehead, then cheeks, upper lips and chin down to neck/chest. I live in Florida and have windows everywhere in my house. 50yr Asian with combo skin that I’ve been super lazy with taking care of until recently. Decided to try this sunscreen and was quite surprised by how much I like it. Things I really really like: – no white cast – viscosity is really good…not thick or runny…makes slapping it on my face super easy – applies very nicely and is very lightweight as I don’t feel like I’m wearing a sunscreen – non-pilling!!!! The most interesting thing I find (and my favourite thing) about this sunscreen is that it behaves like a primer on my face. When I apply foundation on top of it, I get no pilling of any products, the foundation applies so smoothly on top of the sunscreen and it stays on your face for the whole day, and a very very smooth finish to my skin. I’ve gone more than 12 hrs with my foundation not moving, not had to do any touch ups of powder, and not become greasy. Foundation on top of this sunscreen seems to give me super smooth looking skin that I don’t have to do anything with, which works for me cause I’m pretty lazy and I forget to check my face throughout the day. Sheer Physical UV Defense Sunscreen. This is a 100% mineral sunscreen containing Titanium Dioxide, Zinc Oxide, and enhanced with artemia salina (a plankton extract to help boost skin’s natural defenses to UV-and heat-induced stress) It’s a very thin and milky formula and sinks in nicely. It doesn’t feel heavy on the skin like a lot of other mineral sunscreens that I’ve tried. The finish is matte and smooth. My face has zero irritation with this one and feels very protected. I don’t experience any eye stinging. It does have a very minimal whitecast on my skin tone. I usually can’t handle a whitecast but with this one I can look past it because it’s more breathable than other mineral sunscreens I’ve tried. Plus it’s very minimal. They also have a tinted version (Physical Fusion UV Defense) that looks nice too. Overall I love it !hope.d

I really enjoy this sunscreen. It’s a high-end brand, so I knew it would be a small bottle even before I looked at the product page for product size (1 oz for $35 USD). My dermatologist recommends 5%+ zinc oxide for sunscreens, so while I’ve been searching for sunscreen that’s my #1 requirement. This sunscreen has 6% titanium dioxide and 5% zinc oxide and SPF 50 so I tried it out when I picked up another product. I also have pretty sensitive skin, so it has to be able to work with it. I’ve been using it a week and so far I like it. I use the 3 finger rule for my face and neck, as I’m trying to focus on better skincare. If I do this and am not careful, I will get a white cast on my face and it’s noticeable – which is why the four stars. So I start with 1.5 fingers on my face and let that settle, add another half, and then the rest on my neck. It works well. It also works with my sensitive skin so far – no redness, burning, or tingling which is a good sign.alyxis.j

Without sunscreen, I am wasting my time on other products. It is pointless to invest in skincare if my skin is not protected from the sun. Mineral vs. chemical sunscreens, which should you choose? What's the difference between them? Both are advantageous in their own way, but since I have a history of melasma, I prefer mineral-based sunscreen since it deflects heat and contains no hormone-disrupting chemicals. Physical, mineral-based sunscreens also tend to have a higher zinc concentration, act as a physical shield, and sit on the skin to reflect ultraviolet rays. With its natural finish, I can use it all over as a sheer foundation. It's so lightweight and dewy that I can wear it on the hottest summer days (I live in Arizona, where the summers are brutal) without it caking on my face. Since Physical Fusion UV Defense SPF 50 is not a chemical sunscreen, I don't have to worry about it breaking down on my skin and causing irritation. This sunscreen is light enough for daily use, odorless, and water-resistant for up to 40 minutes, which makes it an excellent option for the beach or hiking. Since I started quarantining due to the pandemic, I rarely wear foundation, but this tinted sunscreen keeps my skin looking refreshed and glowing. Usually, I pair it with clear brow gel and call it a day, but you can easily apply a layer of foundation on top of it. It is recommended that you wait 15 minutes before applying makeup over sunscreen. I can wear sunscreen on a sweaty run without worrying about any greasy residue running into my eyes. I like that it feels lightweight and has a beige undertone similar to my olive skin tone. However, I'm a little disappointed it only comes in one shade since not everyone will be able to experience how good of a sunscreen it is. The tint works well for my olive complexion and will probably be a good match for fair and medium skin tones, but it might look washed out for those with darker complexions. Verdict: The 1.7-ounce bottle costs $34, which is a bit more than your typical drugstore sunscreen, but if it helps protect your skin as it does for me, it's worth the splurge.menith.s

Not one for reviews or should I say I’ve never found a product that suits my skin as my skin is highly sensitive and even though I always go for organic products that may still have some effect on my skin and break out after sometime of using the product, so I’ve never had a product that has lasted enough time to be able to write about it. This product has left me hydrated and I’m dark skinned and have a lot of pigmentation and most definitely need spf as my chin/mouth area gets darker than the rest of my face exposed to sun. I have been using this product consistently and daily weather outside or not and I can shockingly say I’ve not broken out not once it is oily and my skin is super dry but I’ve found it hard to use oils in my face because I break out soon as an oil based product touches my skin so IM SUPER HAPPY I Now have a product I can use for DRY, PIGMENTED SKIN !! I will continue to purchase this product it goes along way also I’ve been using this product for over 3 weeks now and I still have over half left !! I'm sort of shocked by how well reviewed this is! It feels heavy on the skin and looks REALLY greasy. No amount of rubbing in or waiting makes it less greasy-looking. It is incredibly difficult to put makeup on over this because of the texture, and it caused my powder to clump too. It also seeped into my eyes after a few hours and irritated them badly. Because of the amazing reviews, I really have tried to give this a chance; I wore it several times and tried multiple ways of applying it/trying to cover the greasy appearance, but nothing helped. In its favour, this is very reasonably priced. I didn't notice any white cast (but I am also very pale). It does not have a strong smell, and it also did not irritate my skin at all or break me out. I think this is likely an excellent SPF, it's just very cosmetically inelegant. I sort of wonder whether the people who feel that this is not greasy-looking are actually applying enough.Sinéad

Im absolutely disgusted with this product. It doesn't work. I applied this sunscreen to my face and shoulders about 40 mins before going to the beach at 5pm. I then reapplied just to be certain i was covered when I got there and waited 20mins before swimming. I was in the water about 90 minutes after 5pm. My face is now sunburned and painful!! My shoulders are very tanned and moderately burned now too. Its like I didn't put any on. This is disgraceful – I now have a skin injury because this product doesn't do what it is supposed to do. I should have been fine with a 25spf product at that time of day and this is supposed to be 50spf. I have sensitive skin and im allergic to fragrance so im very limited in the products I can use. This product should be recalled. Im so angry and disappointed.Wendy

I got this for my husband who works outside all day in the sun. He doesn't have much hair and sometimes it’s too hot for a hat. He’s spent the last few years slathering himself in sunscreen, ending up with a luminous white glowing head at the end of each day which was hard to remove, even in the shower. Not a great look. So glad I got this spray. It’s quick and easy for him to use. I bought this because I love the coola bb cream spf for your face. The aerosol is really wild on it, so I end up feeling like I’m inhaling it. I would recommend applying it while you’re outside. I don’t think it gives you as much protection as thinkbody, but there stuff goes on white. This does not leave any white residue, it’s not oily either, but it kind of smells like tequila? It’s strange. I might try the other kinds because of this wasn’t so intense in tequila smell, I might be willing to apply more on my body. It doesn’t smell like that once it’s on your body. I don’t know about this one…I probably would t buy this particular bottle again.Jennifer

First off, I love the packaging. It is bright, fun, and and has the trademark COOLA logo, which makes it so recognizable. I love the twist top so that it doesn't accidentally get triggered in a bag or by little hands. The SPF is 50, which is great. I also love the scent so much. The guava mango smells like a starburst candy (which I LOVE) and it doesn't overwhelm me. It's pretty subtle, but still there. I can't really smell a strong sunscreen scent. I love how smoothly it sprays as well. I can just mist myself and then rub it in and it doesn't feel greasy or oily. I am so glad I bought this and I will be going back for more. I. Now going to purchase a travel size of this and I would love to try the tropical coconut scent as well. Bonus points for this being organic, reef friendly, cruelty free, vegan, etc… I sprayed it on my arm for the photo and you can see there is no white cast or major shine. It sprays on clear.
