20 Best Sunscreens For Acne Prone Skin (Feb 2023 Update)

I cannot live without this. I am a redhead and growing up there was nothing I hated more than sunscreen. Not only was it sticky, but is smelled very distinctly like sunscreen and I was always the kid made fun of for the white streaks or cast all over my skin. I hated sunscreen. When I started researching anti-aging and skin care regimens as an adult, and everything told me to wear sunscreen everyday, I cringed. But, the thought of wrinkles made me cringe more. I tried a lot of different facial SPFs. Then I found Supergoop!. I never want to stop using this product. It does not smell like anything (including sunscreen). It is not sticky when you put the right amount on. It is completely invisible and it is so hydrating without clogging pores (adult acne struggle is real!). This entire brand has a solution for every need that a fair redhead who despises traditional sunscreen could need. I am so in love with my daily SPF, I never miss it. I like to pair this with the Daily Dose – I do find that to be tacky, but once this is layered over it, the tacky goes away within minutes. Please make the Jumbo a permeant product!Ashley M.

I was really reluctant to try this sunscreen to be honest, and mainly for the name “super goop”. To me that sounds like the sunscreen was going to be gooey and thick, and if you throw in the word “glow screen” I thought for sure I would be walking around like a disco ball. The consistency of the product itself is quite opposite of what I thought. i only apply a small amount because a little goes a long way. The consistency is thin enough to smooth onto my face and settles into the perfect finish. I’m on day two of trying this sunscreen because I’m wearing it with different products. Yesterday I tried under my full coverage makeup and no greasy face so yeah! This morning I tried it with some bronzing drops to add some color and again the consistency is gorgeous. Overall, I feel like this is a great product, especially for us oily face combination skin peeps, I’m really impressed. I also heard it goes great when mixed with tinted moisturizers so I will try that next. If I wear this sunscreen alone without makeup I may dab some powder in my t-zone for extra reassurance but I will try that next.joy.w

This is probably one of my favorite sunscreens I've ever tried! I've tried buying other sunscreens, mineral ones that "don't leave a white cast" and cheaper chemical options, and I just purchased this sunscreen for the fourth time. I also come back to this because it's a reliable choice and have had no problems. I'm Southeast Asian with a skin tone that's on the lighter side of the medium/tan range, so if I wear a 100% mineral sunscreen, my skin is light enough that it blends in but also dark enough for someone to tell that my skin tone looks off (sort of like a white cool-toned tint to my warm skin?). In other words, I just look a bit paler than usual and it looks unnatural. With this sunscreen, I don't have to think about if you can see it on my skin or if it's not blended. I usually put on more sunscreen than suggested (just to be safe), and this glides on extremely easily over my skin ( and I also didn't notice any scent/an unpleasant chemical smell). It is a bit slippery (no oils are in this, just silicones), but your skin will feel soft after rubbing it in. Speaking of which, you don't need to put in a lot of effort to apply! I had recently gotten jaw surgery and had switched to a different sunscreen (chemical, but had a white color that disappeared after rubbing in). I had incisions on the left and right side of my bottom jaw, which sunscreen would be necessary to prevent scarring, and I found that I had trouble rubbing in my sunscreen (walking into harsh lighting, I'd see white along the sides of my jaw from not blending well enough). I switched to this instead and had no problem, nor did I have to worry about having any weird coloring. The finish is a soft matte, almost similar to the Fenty Pro Filter Instant Retouch Primer. I bought this while on vacation in FL and now I love it. I have been trying to find a sunscreen that works for me and this does. I have eczema and very sensitive skin but this doesn’t irritate me. My eyes are also very sensitive and I’m usually fine with this if I apply lightly around my eyes. The white cast is not great but if I rub it in for 30-60 seconds and follow with a blending brush I can get it to go away but I’m also very pale. When you sweat it can turn white (I had that happen in FL) so watch for that but for everyday use that’s not an issue for me. I despise when products pill on my face as many sunscreens do but that hasn’t been an issue for me. I also look very shiny with some other sunscreens and I don’t love that but this one finishes down much less shiny I wouldn’t say it’s matte though. So far it’s been one of my favorites. I have been using this as my daily face sunscreen for over a decade. I have tried other brands and no other brand compares. I am asian with a pale complexion and don’t wear makeup. I like this because: 1. Goes on quickly and blends quickly 2. Makes my complexion look better – more even toned; reduces visibility of age spots 3. Does not get greasy or make my face shine as the day goes on 4. Provides good all day protection – used at amusement parks, on the beach in Hawaii I would cry if they stopped making this. I recently received a tube of Clear Skin SPF 30 complimentary from Proactive in exchange for my honest review, and I gotta say it is refreshing to find a sunblock that actively prevents acne breakouts, when most cause them I have a very fair complexion and burn extremely easily, so a high spf is a must for me. But, most of them are SO thick and greasy – not this one! Its a very silky, light cream, with hardly any fragrance at all. I would definitely buy this again!Dannielle

I have had bad acne for my teenage and young adult years, and I've found that sunscreen is a major part of healing your skin. Not only is it a major tool in healing acne scars, but since it's something you have to reapply every 2 hours to avoid hyperpigmentation, it's really important to have sunscreen that doesn't clog your pores. I have acne prone skin that breaks out easily if I use products with irritating ingredients. I love that this sunscreen was formulated exactly for that problem! Most sunscreens on the market (mainly chemical sunscreens) cause me to break out even after double cleansing. This product didn't do that and made me feel better about wearing spf knowing I wasn't going to break out. I love using this in the morning to help protect my skin from the sun and it doesn't feel greasy like a lot of sunscreens tend to. Neutrogena’s Invisible Daily Defense Sunscreen Lotion broad spectrum SPF 30 is such a pleasant product to use. First off this lotion provides superior broad spectrum UVA/ UVB protection with antioxidant to help fight environmental aggressors such as cold, ozone, and pollution. My first impression- I love the mild fruity scent! The formula is nice and light, rubs in 100% without any white residue sitting on my skin. It feels hydrating to skin, almost like applying lotion. And to me it’s important that this product is non- comedogenic. This sunscreen has worked very well for me, providing great everyday protection for sun and environment. Literally horrible. I wish I would’ve read the reviews before purchasing. Usually do but I was out of town and picking up some essentials from Target and came across this and hardly read it… saw 60 and “NEW” so I figured I’d try it. I usually like Neutrogena sunscreens and they’re a pretty safe option. Not this one. All of the reviews say “not for face” and I wish I would’ve read that prior to using on my face! The skin on my face is horribly irritated- puffy eyes and very dry scaly skin under my eyes… dried out my skin very badly. Do not use this on your face. Probably safe on the rest of your body but I’m not even willing to try. This is day 3 of not using this sunscreen and my face is still irritated and puffy. Weird orange tint to sunscreen and not sure why that is necessary. Kind of pricey but I overlooked the price because I know Neutrogena is typically good.kbraz

Been using this for a few months now and can say that I love it. Like it says for me it does not cause breakouts which has been an issue in the past with many facial sunscreens. That's why I waited a while to review I wanted to put this through the ringer. So I'm about to give you an in depth review of my usage over the last few months. First off this does go nicely over many many many facial products and treatments as I have a whole repertoire of products that I've used or tested or tried out for the sake of it. And this applies nicely. I like to warm it up in my hands and then press onto my face and rub in like you would a moisturizer and make sure to get your ears as well. It does not leave a white cast on my face which is nice and doesn't feel oily or greasy because it's oil free. It can feel a bit gritty for some reason but I've gotten past that it's all good. I aloow it to sink in for about a good 10 minutes if I'm doing makeup and then I begin my routine. Have not had any problems doing makeup with this underneath as well. Works fantastic. The only reason I give this 4 stars is because if you have a face full of makeup and you'd like to reapply this is not it! Because as we know 2 hour application is best if you're out and about in the sun. Which usually I am all day. So I'd recommend a spray product or a powder product for an alternative. Now if you're going natural for the day even though we don't like makeup wipes maybe carry some miceller wipes and wipe your face down and reapply to prevent product build up which even though this is breakout and oil free if you're reapplying as directed. Imagine a 12 hour day you'd be reapplying 6 times that's a lot of product going onto your face to be cleansed off at the end of the day. This is why some form of wipes stay within my reach for easy cleaning to make reapplication a breeze and end of the day cleansing a bit easier. But I only recommend this if you have or know a brand that works for you. My friend who also works outside and is religious about sunscreen uses a facial cleaning water product and reusable cotton pads. But overall. This sunscreen is great haven't gotten burnt and I'm in the sun all day every day in hot Louisiana.jessica.h

Since high school, I have dealt with acne. It used to be a lot worse, but since I started using a prescription acne medication (Taro-Adapalene Benzoyl Peroxide) it has been manageable. My daily routine now, at age 24, prior to being sent these products from @dermalogicacanada #giftedbydermalogica included a facial exfoliation 2-3 times per week, a gentle astringent, a serum in the mornings, and eye cream and moisturizer to finish. I replaced the moisturizer in my regular routine with this one instead, and the exfoliator with a daily cleanser I was also sent. I will admit that although I did my full skincare routine every morning for the month or so after receiving this product, I did miss some nights when I was just too tired, so maybe if I had done every night as well, I would have noticed a difference. However, I did not. My skin has still been breaking out to the same degree as it was before. Perhaps these products would be beneficial for people who just break out only every so often rather than for someone like me, who has acne-prone skin. I also found that if I didn't squeeze out enough of this moisturizer onto my face, when I tried to rub it in and make the smaller amount work, it would actually start shedding as my hands brushed over it. I think it's because the moisturizer is fairly thick, as I've experienced sunscreen having this same reaction before. I had to wet my hands and add some water to my face to get rid of the shedding/make the rest soak into my face. So after that, I always ensured I had too much moisturizer squeezed out rather than not enough. Although my face FELT matte after using it, it sure didn't appear it. I haven't found a good mattifying moisturizer that really does work for my face, so I suppose I wasn't surprised that my face still looked shiny after using it, although I was a bit disappointed, since that is what this moisturizer claims to do. I don't think this moisturizer is bad by any means, since I do like the SPF protection, and it did help keep my face from getting too dry. However, I personally would not buy it again.Alexandra

I have very oily skin in my t-zone and so for me this doesn’t dry to a fully matte finish in that area, I’d say it’s more of a natural finish. But it’s not greasy at all and does help to reduce oil production during the day, so I chalk this up as a win for sunscreen. I’ve been using it for a few weeks and it hasn’t broken me out at all and may even be helping keep my skin clear (hard to tell because I use other actives). So far it’s my favourite moisturizer with SPF so I’ll keep using it. The only thing I don’t love is that is has fragrance, not sure why that’s necessary. However it does dissipate once it dries. Four stars because it hasn’t completely blown me away but it does it’s job well enough. Worth a try for someone with oily or combination skin if you aren’t sensitive to fragrance.RennieLynn

I recently switched to dermalogica for all my skin care needs. I selected products after having read up on them and the ingredient lists from different lines to suit my skin needs. Although I have oily and super congested skin, it has been a while since i've actually broken out and by that I mean like terrible cystic break outs (which I suffered from in high school). Among ALL the things I purchased, this one sadly disappointed me sorely. I'm so pleased with the rest of my products even though a lot of them weren't cut for my skin type but this one while being meant to "clear breakouts" did, in fact, the opposite! Just one application later, I developed a huge cyst on my face. And i know this product was to blame because i introduced all the new products one at a time after a gap of a couple weeks. Reading some of the reviews here has just reinforced my belief. I really wanted to like this product since ive been on the lookout for a suitable suncreen for my type and i really did give it multiple attempts but sadly it didnt make the cut. Also, applying it 'generously' like the instructions mention is a bad idea since i've noticed that does more harm than good. This was my first time trying a sunscreen from this brand and I was not that impressed. I got this one and the non-tinted version of this, and both were just not that great. They don't sit well over certain moisturizers (I use cerave cream) and can pill/bunch up depending on the skincare you have underneath. The tint on this claims to be universal, but it was noticeably darker compared to my natural skintone. I'm Asian with light/fair skin (Fitzpatrick type 2), and the color difference was so obvious. I applied this to my face and neck, and it was so dark compared to my chest. I was confused because reviews with lighter skin said the tint was fine, but it might also be that people don't apply an appropriate amount for proper spf coverage. The tint on this is really suited for those who are a solid medium/tan skintone. This is also not dark-skinned friendly (I had my friend try it out), as it leaves you looking ghostly. Also, the smell is similar to that of rubber tires. I do like that it's spf 50 and lightweight, but the cons heavily outweigh the pros for me that I would not find myself ever purchasing this again.Kev

Recently with the influx of skincare and makeup videos on apps like Instagram and tik tok, I've been seeing so many things about sunscreen and sun protection. I'm only 25 but I've started to notice some fine lines and signs of sun damage since I'm quite pale and fair skinned, which is all the more reason for me to use this. I've tried other sunscreens for the face but most of them leave a white cast or make my skin feel even more oily than it already is, or even pill up on dry areas. That was until I went searching for the best face sunscreen and found this. At first I was hesitant because of the price, and thought about it for a few months. I mean $37 for sunscreen is definitely a lot, but to those wondering if it's worth it: it definitely is. This sunscreen is absolutely amazing, it's light, fluid, makes me feel like I'm wearing nothing at all, and best of all leaves NO WHITE CAST!!! I love knowing that I'm protected and the spf 50 is great for someone like me with super pale skin. The only issue I have with it is that it does leave my face looking a little oily but usually I'll just put a bit of powder on and it looks normal. I would definitely be interested in trying something that has a more matte finish, if available. Also I will say if you use the recommended amount of sunscreen daily you will go through this bottle pretty quick. It lasted about 3-4 weeks for me, so it could be worth investing in a backup sunscreen that's cheaper, but overall I love this sunscreen it's the best one I've tried yet!!Cccmp

I'm so glad I decided to try this particular sunscreen from La Roche-Posay {already being happy with, -and using their SPF50 for children for both me and my son} wanting something that felt a bit lighter for the face and neck especially. I have very sensitive, reactive skin prone to redness {not diagnosed but ticks every box for Rosacea} and not only does this sunscreen not cause any irritations whatsoever, but my skin seem calmer and happier since I've started using this nearly daily and I've had no flare ups and putting it on. There's not even a hint of redness {that can even be brought on by my kind moisturiser that is great for me otherwise}. Anyone with finicky skin knows that this in itself is so nice to find, – but not only have I had these results every time for weeks now, but it also seem to make my make up look and last b e t t e r, which I find hard to expect from a sunscreen. So much so that I've stopped using a primer before make up application {and rather just use this sunscreen and then a cc cream and some translucent mineral veil, and I have had more compliments on my skin than ever}. The consistency is quite runny and light, but I find that to be a great feature for a sunscreen for the face as it melts in with no white cast whatsoever. It stays a bit tacky to the touch {and skin looks healthy 'glowy' on me}, which I now only appreciate as that might be what then has make up sit well on top too. First time I ordered I was a bit taken back by how small the bottle is, but it's lasted much longer than expected with daily use and I've reordered more than happily since.Hannah

Anyway, I was happy with the quality of EltaMD, but looking for something more moisturizing for my combination/dry skin and I found it in UV Facial. This is an incredibly moisturizing and rich formula that does not leave a white cast on my pale skin. It will leave an ever so slight shine on your face, which translates to a glow on my skin, so if you are oily or prefer a completely matte look then this product probably isn't for you. I find it wears lovely under my foundation–something that can be a challenge with sunscreens. I love this formula so much but had to knock a star off because of the use of chemical filters. If this sunscreen was purely physical it would be a 5/5 holy grail formulation. I keep testing out all-mineral sunscreens and always come back to this one. If you are on the drier side and don't mind a chemical sunscreen, try this out!roshni.p

Actually, this is the only sunscreen that has met all my criteria. It also makes my skin look and feel amazing. I have acne prone skin, I’m combo oily, I don’t like feeling anything on my face, and I enjoy makeup. I’m also on a retinoid. I have been using this sunscreen for over a year, and continue to come back to it when I go exploring to see if there’s something better. So far, there isn’t! The finish is natural. It’s not too shiny and not too matte. It literally just makes my skin look healthy and moisturized but not oily at all. There is absolutely no white cast. It does not pill under any makeup I’ve tried. It layers up beautifully. I’ve reapplied 3 times in a day and it manages to stay silky and not cakey on my skin. It does have a very mild, pleasant scent- which is great because I hate fragrances in products or ones that smell naturally of battery acid. It does not sting around my eyes AT ALL. It also has the added benefits of improving my skin texture and look of my complexion. Though it doesn’t add coverage, per say, I can go without my powder foundation when wearing this. I have malasma on my face, so I have to wear sunblock everyday/all day to prevent the dark spots from getting worse. To make matters worse, the most effective sunblock for malasma is zinc based or physical sunblock which leave a chalky white residue when applied. Furthermore I am acne prone. I was really struggling to find a sunblock I felt comfortable wearing to work and in public. When I discovered Amavara I almost cried. The product looks great on my skin – even providing a good amount of concealer for my skin spots. I have been using for months, applying multiple times a day and have not had a breakout. It is natural, unscented, reef and human safe. It has changed my life and made it easier to live with malasma. Be aware – as with any zinc based sunblock, if you are sweating a lot the sweat will bead up on your face. It doesn't impact the effectiveness. Just dab away with a tissue or something. Don’t sleep on this sunscreen. Been using this for almost 2 years and I hope they never stop selling it. Not the typical sunscreen. This has a thick consistency, takes a little rubbing in but once it’s on it sticks to your face and makes your pores look flawless. I have oily, acne prone skin, and my sister has dry, eczema prone skin and we both use this sunscreen ONLY. Have not worn foundation since using this. I am 24 year olds and I have dealt with mild, moderate, and severe acne since I was 11 years old! (Sometimes it’s good, sometimes it’s awful) So as you could imagine, I have tried everything under the sun. My biggest issue has always been sunscreens!! I have been using this as my daily face sunscreen for over a decade. I have tried other brands and no other brand compares. I am asian with a pale complexion and don’t wear makeup. I like this because: 1. Goes on quickly and blends quickly 2. Makes my complexion look better – more even toned; reduces visibility of age spots 3. Does not get greasy or make my face shine as the day goes on 4. Provides good all day protection – used at amusement parks, on the beach in Hawaii I would cry if they stopped making this. I received the Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Moisturizing Face Serum Sunscreen complimentary from Home Tester Club in exchange for my honest opinion. The first thing I noticed was the simple yet quality packaging. The dispenser has no top but it doesn't need one. Just twist to open and twist to close. Great for travel, yes? The creamy fragrace free facial serum goes on nicely and isn't at all greasy. I love it because two steps are united into one. It is a wonderful moisturizer and sunscreen all in one. I bought this product hoping to find a US alternative to a JP product, but this did not make the cut. First, I avoid dimethicone in all skincare as I have oily skin and it seems to make it worse. My own mistake, I didn't realize this contains dimethicone. Second, and the biggest problem, I had a severe reaction to this product. A few hours after applying (tried it two separate times) my eyes became watering and swollen. This lasted for nearly 12 hours, even after washing my face. My partner also had the same problem. Neither of us were really outside sweating or swimming. I would say I have fairly sensitive, fair-ish skin, but I also am used to a sunscreen that contains alcohol and have little no allergies otherwise.Miko

I love most of the products from this brand as it is easily accessible and affordable with incredible clean ingredients. However, I have to say this sunscreen is not my favorite from them. I like that it’s a mineral vs. chemical as it is safer on reefs and my skin overall. Now, this product has good qualities, such as it works well on sensitive skin and it will not irritate it. It smooths on natural with a satin finish, but the tint doesn’t work well with my skin tone. There’s no white cast and no strong chemical smell (that’s a plus). In fact, there is no scent with a broad-spectrum SPF 35, which is great for the hot Vegas sun.However, the formula is hydrating, so it will keep the skin moisturized. Yet, for me, it didn’t rub into my skin well and didn’t work well underneath my liquid foundation, but it was a little better alone or under a powder foundation. Although it didn’t work on my skin, I would still suggest this product for individuals with sensitivity as it is free of several harsh ingredients to cause irritation, free of fragrances, and minus the white cast. This is a safe and easy sunscreen for everyday use. This is a GREAT sunscreen! It blends seamlessly into my skin & leaves a natural glow that hydrates without making my face feel like an oil slick OR a tacky mess like most mineral sunscreens do. It's super lightweight yet effective, so it doesn't feel heavy on skin no matter how many layers I add on over another. The tint itself isn't super duper noticeable but it definitely makes my skin GLOW! It also wears amazingly under makeup & my BB cream, doesn't peel/ball up after application or anything, even throughout the day my skin still looked great with it underneath! Comes out runny but once you rub it into your skin it feels like a dream. I am an AVID sunscreen user (very pale and freckles) so I've been on the hunt for a good every day sunscreen to apply in the morning also sometimes putting it under makeup. I have tried so many and this one is now my holy grail! I have an am skincare routine (face wash, hyaluronic acid, vitamin c, moisturizing serum, eye cream, and moisturizer) and this sits so well as my ending product. I don't notice any pilling which was a huge problem for me before. The only time I did notice was it I didn't rub it all the way in or didn't rub it into my hairline. This makes my skin look beautiful and feels amazing. It does have a very light scent but almost a soft powder scent but it doesn't not linger and isn't strong. I'm very pale but I don't notice any white cast that I can see. Amazing!!!AJ

I’ve been looking for a high SPF sunblock after using EltaMD for about 10 years before discovering oxybenzone is bad for your skin. This was my first purchase and I will never buy it again. I digress-the sunblock does not absorb into your skin. It simply sits on top of it and makes you feel greasy. If you remotely begin to sweat (as I do ) it runs down your skin and turns white. The first time it happened someone pulled me aside and told me my makeup was running. Bit, the thing is I don’t wear makeup, just tinted sunblock… I thought maybe I hadn’t rubbed it in enough so I gave it another try. Tonight during my run, another jogger gave me a strange look, so I looked down and discovered a blob of white goo dripping off of me so I looked like my clown makeup was melting off. i initially was super exited about this spf from hearing so many great things about it, but after trying it for myself i was dissatisfied. i want to start by saying this is just how it worked for me and my skin and judging by how many people love this product, it still might be a good option for you, but personally it’s not good for my skin. First off i was a little disappointed by the size of this product, but that’s not a huge deal since they list the size on the website, so that’s more on me. But when i out it on i noticed it was very streaky and didn’t sink into the skin well. It also left a white cast (which i normally don’t have issues with since i have a lighter complexion) and a few hours after wearing this i noticed it had started to pill up on my face.shelly

After reading reviews I was so excited to try this sunscreen. It took a long time to arrive (first package got lost in the mail and they had to send me a second one). When it did arrive I did not notice much difference between my current drugstore face sunscreen and this product even though my drugstore sunscreen is less than half the price. I wouldn't say this sunscreen is "greasy" but it definitely leaves a shine. I didn't experience a white cast and there is not an intense smell which are all good. It did not go that well under makeup which is one of the main reasons I bought it, I saw reviews saying it was even a "primer" but did not work well for me in this department. Overall it is fine sunscreen however I will likely stick w/ my cheaper and equally effective drugstore brand that is also a higher SPF.Emily

i have very oily skin and i’m obsessed with sustainable beauty, so i was excited to have a lightweight sustainable spf (the daily is a bit too heavy for my liking). at first i loved this; it did pill a bit, but if i blended quickly and waited ten minutes before doing makeup it was fine. it’s lightweight and hydrating and truly an spf “fluid.” however, i noticed these relentless little bumps around my mouth, where i was clear before. after some research i found that the mouth area is a prime place for “fungal” acne, and that an emulsifier in this spf (glyceryl stearate SE) is a major fungal acne trigger. i stopped using and my skin cleared up so quickly. for anyone experiencing this: turmeric and ginger clear fungal acne, so i’ve been using the turmeric mask stick which has helped tremendously. the search for a sustainable spf for oily girls continues.gabby

This is really the best sunscreen for my sensitive and mature skin. I have mild rosacea and was diagnosed with melanoma 2 years ago so a product that protects me and my sensitive skin is priceless! No irritation, redness, or other adverse effects ever experienced using this product. It's a pure mineral sunscreen and it's high concentration of zinc oxide was highly encouraged by me dermatologist. A couple of small drops, blend in a tad of my own foundation and voila ……… my face is protected and my own foundation is blended in for the ultimate sun protection living here in Florida. No white cast, not shiny, and blends into my skin perfectly. A couple of touchups during the day with my powder foundation compact and I am good to go! For the most part, the products I receive from LaLaDaisy are great. However, once I received an already expired vitamin C serum, and another time I received some retinol that was 3 months away from expiring. This time I purchased the Active Broad Spectrum SPF 45 sunscreen, and it is set to expire in 3.5 months. The product itself is great, but just be aware that you will most likely be receiving product that is close to expiring since it seems there is a lack of some quality control at their distribution center. I bought this sunscreen a year ago and kept waking up with major redness and swelling on my face the morning after I used it. For the longest time, I thought my face had become more sensitive to the sun, that I was developing a skin allergy. However, it wasn't happening on days I used my other sunscreen brands. Yesterday I gave it another try. It was only 15 degrees Celcius outside and after reapplying the sunscreen throughout the day I went to bed with an extremely red face that was swollen all the way up to my eyes. There is clearly something in this sunscreen that is causing this reaction. I've never had any allergies or skin allergies before to anything I've tried in the past.Ellen

The first sunscreen I have liked enough to finish the bottle. The best thing about it is that it's light enough that you can't feel it on your face- it doesn't stay greasy or rub off on everything you own (like some other mineral sunscreens do) so it is very practical for every day usage. As for the cast, I am light skinned with neutral undertones and it does leave a slight blue-ish cast on my face. It is not bad though and if you rub it in all the way it is hardly noticeable. If you notice no cast at all you are not using nearly enough and not getting the full SPF 30. I would recommend removing this before reapplying because at the end of the day if you have several layers on your face from reapplication, I found that if I scratch my face even lightly that it collects so much product under my fingernails. Additionally, if it gets in my hair it kind of gets stuck and then flakes at the end of the day. This is why I give it 4 stars instead of 5, and also because I wish it came in higher SPF as well. I'm looking for the most practical and convenient sunscreen for every day use and I think this is the best at this price point. I finished the bottle in about a month and a half- that is with daily use on my face and neck with at least two reapplications (two finger lengths worth of product each time).christinemaie

I just got this and I know it’s a winner. I purchased the Biossance mineral sunscreen and I didn’t care for it, mainly because it did not absorb into my skin (think layer of cream) and would run off my face when I’d sweat. Not cute :/ or comfortable. So I decided to switch to Dr. Dennis Gross and let me tell you… it absorbs into my skin like a dream, leaves no white cast (I have a light olive complexion), and the packaging is yellow! (I like yellow). I’m joking about the packaging, I’m sure there is more to love, but I can’t think of anything else at the moment. My main concerns are absorption and no white cast and those are met. Maybe in a few weeks I’ll see if there is a difference in my skin. The only thing though is the price. Yes, it’s higher than I’d like, but at the same time it is a quality sunscreen and in a skincare routine the sunscreen is the most important step… so I guess I’ll let it slide. For reference, I have normal to dry skin, packed with hyperpigmentation, pores and fine lines because I didn’t take the proper care/protection when I was young. I thought that I was not going to like this sunscreen but I actually do, and a lot! PROS: – Physical sunscreen: even being a full physical sunscreen, it doesn’t leave too much of a white cast. – It doesn’t irritate my eyes: because of being a physical sunscreen, I can apply it around my eyes and over my lids. Chemical sunscreens irritate my eyes. – Lightweight and easy to apply. – It worked well under my makeup but I needed to use a matte finish foundation to compensate the glowy finish that the sunscreen left on my skin (I apply quite a lot to get the SPF advertised) – It has some skincare ingredients but I don’t rely on my sunscreen to get what my aging skin needs (other than the SPF, of course) – Non scented formula: it doesn’t have any perfumes so it is perfect for any sensitive face out there – Reef safe. – Clean at Sephora. CONS – It is quite pricey, and that’s the only reason to give only 4 stars. – Applying liberally, as the brand recommends and as every sunscreen should be applied to get the level of protection in the label, you will end up with a very glowy finish. It still works with my makeup but I have to avoid glowy foundations or it would be too much glow. I had high hopes for this sunscreen as I am a frequent user of Cetaphil products due to my highly sensitive and eczema prone skin. I've been wearing it every day while out and about in the southern heat and humidity. I will say that it is effective in that it doesn't melt off when I sweat and I definitely haven't gotten any sunburns while wearing it. It doesn't sting when I apply and has no scent. However, there is a reason it says "Ideal for under makeup" on the bottle. The white cast it leaves on your skin is intense. It has covered well with makeup (I use bareminerals original foundation), but there is no way you could use this and just walk out the door with nothing else over it. I have olive skin so I'm sure that doesn't help the situation. If you're looking for an under makeup sunscreen, this could be great for you. I however, enjoy not wearing makeup quite often so once I use this up, I won't be buying again.MamaAllDay

This is a lightweight mineral sunscreen, advertised as ideal for application under makeup. Wait, as far as I am aware, sunscreen should be applied as the last step in your skincare routine. Hm? Anyway, it worked for my skin, however, it is very basic, and it has a minimal white cast. I had to blend it well in order to avoid it. Be careful applying it over your makeup, because it is not fully transparent (minimal white cast). It did not cause any irritation/dryness, and it is lightweight as advertised. However, I am not sure if this sunscreen is reef safe. The other reviews are correct— this Cetaphil Sheer Liquid Sunscreen pills and flakes horribly. I have been using it for almost a year now and I own two bottles. I have applied it every way possible with the same unpleasant results on my face. The key to application with this product is to (1) squeeze a nickel to quarter sized amount in the palm of your hand (2) rub your palms (hands) together and then (3) gently pat the sunscreen onto your face like you are making hand paint impressions in art class. (4) keep patting until you don’t see the white cast. (5) if you need more coverage, repeat these same steps. When I apply this way, I do not get flaking and pulling. Trust me on this one, I’ve applied it other ways and I was out in these streets looking crazy. My husband even called me out a few times, like “what are those white flakes on your face?” I’ve tried other brands like Australian Gold and Coppertone but this Cetaphil sunscreen is the only one that actually keeps me from burning (that means it is working to block sun rays) and I would purchase it again until I find something better.Lena

I’ve tried so many sunscreens geared towards oily skin. Most of them either work for an hour or 2, tops or they look completely gray. This the only spf that TRULY keeps me matte throughout the day. This formula does have a gray cast, but give it 5 minutes and it does fade. I’m a chocolate-colored girl and the cast usually mostly fades by the time I’m ready to leave the house. I was not prepared for the true matte this product provides. Most oil control products last maybe half a day at most. However, ShineBlock lasts all day. I applied it before applying my makeup primer and the results were amazing. I also love that I am shine-free throughout the day. I don't have to blot as often. Since I have been using this product, I have noticed one con. When I first apply it I can see a white haze on my face. It reminds me of the matte primer. The haze is gone within minutes. So far, I have not noticed any residue left behind. I plan to add this product to my daily routine.Shearil M.

This is not a terrible mineral sunscreen, considering the amount of zinc in it it does pretty well. However, my skin tone is very dark and it left a noticeable white cast. I applied in three layers so that it could blend out better, it was very mattifying without being drying but was a bit hard for the texture of it to blend out on the skin. Still, after applying the adequate amount about three fingers worth it and waiting 15 min for it to settle in it still left a white cast. Sheer Physical UV Defense Sunscreen. This is a 100% mineral sunscreen containing Titanium Dioxide, Zinc Oxide, and enhanced with artemia salina (a plankton extract to help boost skin’s natural defenses to UV-and heat-induced stress) It’s a very thin and milky formula and sinks in nicely. It doesn’t feel heavy on the skin like a lot of other mineral sunscreens that I’ve tried. The finish is matte and smooth. My face has zero irritation with this one and feels very protected. I don’t experience any eye stinging. It does have a very minimal whitecast on my skin tone. I usually can’t handle a whitecast but with this one I can look past it because it’s more breathable than other mineral sunscreens I’ve tried. Plus it’s very minimal. They also have a tinted version (Physical Fusion UV Defense) that looks nice too. Overall I love it !hope.d

I really enjoy this sunscreen. It’s a high-end brand, so I knew it would be a small bottle even before I looked at the product page for product size (1 oz for $35 USD). My dermatologist recommends 5%+ zinc oxide for sunscreens, so while I’ve been searching for sunscreen that’s my #1 requirement. This sunscreen has 6% titanium dioxide and 5% zinc oxide and SPF 50 so I tried it out when I picked up another product. I also have pretty sensitive skin, so it has to be able to work with it. I’ve been using it a week and so far I like it. I use the 3 finger rule for my face and neck, as I’m trying to focus on better skincare. If I do this and am not careful, I will get a white cast on my face and it’s noticeable – which is why the four stars. So I start with 1.5 fingers on my face and let that settle, add another half, and then the rest on my neck. It works well. It also works with my sensitive skin so far – no redness, burning, or tingling which is a good sign.alyxis.j

With its natural finish, I can use it all over as a sheer foundation. It's so lightweight and dewy that I can wear it on the hottest summer days (I live in Arizona, where the summers are brutal) without it caking on my face. Since Physical Fusion UV Defense SPF 50 is not a chemical sunscreen, I don't have to worry about it breaking down on my skin and causing irritation. This sunscreen is light enough for daily use, odorless, and water-resistant for up to 40 minutes, which makes it an excellent option for the beach or hiking. Since I started quarantining due to the pandemic, I rarely wear foundation, but this tinted sunscreen keeps my skin looking refreshed and glowing. Usually, I pair it with clear brow gel and call it a day, but you can easily apply a layer of foundation on top of it. It is recommended that you wait 15 minutes before applying makeup over sunscreen. I can wear sunscreen on a sweaty run without worrying about any greasy residue running into my eyes. I like that it feels lightweight and has a beige undertone similar to my olive skin tone. However, I'm a little disappointed it only comes in one shade since not everyone will be able to experience how good of a sunscreen it is. The tint works well for my olive complexion and will probably be a good match for fair and medium skin tones, but it might look washed out for those with darker complexions. Not only does it provide UVA/UVB sunscreen protection but it moisturizes your skin as well. • Made without fragrance, parabens, phthalates, mineral oil or synthetic dyes • SPF 30 made with 100% Mineral SPF Active, Zinc Oxide & Vitamin B3 I applied the Olay Regenerist Hydrating Mineral Sunscreen after I cleansed my skin before I applied makeup in the morning. It has a light creamy consistency which absorbed quickly into my skin without feeling greasy. Did not irritate my skin nor do it leave a white cast. Since using this product my skin feels and looks smoother. I have sensitive skin and sunburn very easily so I know the importance of using sunscreen and this product provided the necessary sun protection while keeping my skin hydrated. It also comes in a pump dispenser which is very handy. Would be great if it came in a larger size and maybe a higher SPF factor but I definitely recommend using this product and will be adding it to my daily skincare routine from now on. I bought this cream from a local store and then bought more here on the Olay website. This mineral based cream is something I have been searching for. All mineral based sunscreens are pasty and greasy and leave a white film on my face. So many sunscreens make my face break out and I have predominately dry skin. This very light mineral based sunscreen went on smoothly. I did not feel any film or greasiness. AND, most importantly, it works! I did not get burned! Can’t believe this doesn’t have better reviews and more hype. I think Olay needs to market this one better because I’m completely into beauty products and I didn’t even know it had launched a while back until I came upon it. I only use mineral sunscreens on my face (have tried many because I’ve used sunscreen daily on my face for 20 years now) and I prefer only zinc oxide like this one. I usually use tinted versions due to the “white cast” of mineral sunscreens but sometimes it’s great to have a non tinted option due to tinted ones leaving marks on collars, can’t use tinted on neck and chest. This one feels creamy and elegant, lightweight yet protective. No white cast once it settles in (I am light/fair skinned). Great alone or under makeup! I use this on my neck too and sometimes chest. I love the thin sleek lightweight container and pump dispenser. Great for everyday use-goes on easily, spreads well, feels good, comes off more easily at end of the day because it’s not water resistant which I’m fine with. My two wishes would be a higher SPF 50 option (with maybe a light tint if needed to disguise the white cast at that higher spf). Also this is pricey …BUT is is the same size 1.7 as most face spf products! So really the price is not far off from industry standards for this size and lies in the reasonable range when looking at prices of similar products.
