20 Best Tan For Pale Skin (Feb 2023 Update)

I bought this dark mousse a couple of days ago after having used St Tropez, St Moritz and Bondi Sands for years. Skinny tan is really hyped up, particularly on social media at the moment so I thought I'd give it a go. The only positive I can think of is it lovely coconut smell. The colour guide is not as strong as other self tanners so not as easy to see coverage. I applied it with a mit like I do all my other tanners after moisturizing drier areas – knees elbows etc. I found it takes quite a while for it to feel dry. It's pretty sticky. I left it on overnight, so a good 8 hours. All these claims that it leaves a beautiful, realistic golden colour and doesn't streak.?…. Oh my word! The tan has not taken particularly well, the only parts with any real colour were the streaks I had all over. and I have to say, it wasn't a realistic colour at all, it was very yellowy orange. So glad I didn't pay full price for this. Certainly isn't something I will buy again or recommend. I have to say, having used many self tans over the years, it may be at the cheaper ends but St Moritz is definitely the one I will always return to. A lovely deep dark tan with absolutely no streaks. I have tried many many self tanners and I can honestly say this is the best I have come across so far. Will you be skinnier? I doubt it. Will you look skinnier? Definitely! It goes on easily, dried almost instantly and I seemed to use less than I usually do, although on that point I also did two layers and could easily have done 3 to get the colour I wanted so that makes it 3 times the price and it's only downfall that I can see. Even so I would still happily pay that to get a lovely even tan with a great colour and NO OVERPOWERING SMELL! Even if it's just coconut it's usually like your swimming in it. They all say they smell great and they all lie!.Everyone except Skinny Tan. The smell of this is very faint and quite nice. It is the only one I'd put on and walk straight out the door with. I got this on special but I will happily pay full price. So far it has hardly faded at all so I can't comment on how long it will last. I rushed on here at day five to write a review because I was so impressed, something I would not normally do but when you find something this good you just want to tell everyone.lol. If you've read this far I am guessing you're on the fence about buying this tanner. Save yourself a lot of money and get it. I have tried many others, some very expensive and this is the best. I bought the tan about a month ago as I like to experiment with tans and see which one I absolutely adore the most. I’m a tanaholic and for me there were a few things that lacked. The first thing I noticed was that it dries almost immediately. Some people would love this, however, when rubbing it in, it has to be done quickly or else you’ll end up with streaks and lines from where it adapts to your skin almost instantly. Secondly, it stinks. In comparison to brands such as Isle of paradise or bondi, it really does smell like fake tan. Thirdly, this tan in the shade ‘dark’ is literally dark brown, almost black in colour. It was really difficult trying to match up my foundation and I’m not that pale! Personally I prefer a more bronzed and warmer looking tan. The only good thing about the tan was once washed off, it does not wash off patchy. It washes off eventually and gradually! For the price, I don’t think I would buy it again. It’s okay to have as a backup but I’ve definitely had better tans! – hope this helps xxtanaholic12

I am fair but tan easily there are times in the winter I would like to be tan and feel like summer. Out of the many products there is out there to use this is not the greatest. I think the application is quick but blending isn't good because it dries to quick before you can even do a tiny area.I tried using a lotion and coconut oil to moisturize before applying the makeup lotion and still dries quickly and blotchy. I had such high hopes that it would be simple and beautiful. The smell was pleasant it didn't break me out or stain my hands. Gentle washing with warm water soap and washcloth brings this product off instantly which for a tanning product is amazing. It has so much potential maybe a slightly new formula may help.The look of the packaging was nice a girly pink big readable text which is something I love in a product. The color was spot on not orange or yellow just a perfect brown tan for this price that amazed me. I would never recommend this to anyone maybe to my children to play makeup with but otherwise it makes you look like a jersey shore clown. I looked like I had animal texture skin or mud smeared all over myself just simply terrible.Walked into my living room to show my husband and he laughed at me never something you want out of a beauty product.binzany

I have posted a simple YouTube video review for those more visual shoppers which is linked for your convenience below. Disappointment is the first thing that comes to mind with this product. Why, the fake color and hues it puts off reminds me of the fake tan applications gone wrong. So the appearance is not realistic enough for me to consider wearing. The consistency is unlike lotion, thicker and heavier than most foundations. It goes on so thick and heavily that working into the skin for even coverage takes a lot of time and in my experience I was still unable to get even coverage. I utilized my fingers and then tried applying it with a makeup wedge to see if that improved. In order to achieve even coverage, I then had to apply translucent powder. I feel, if you have to add more makeup, to makeup to make it look good, then it isn’t working. Especially if still want to maintain a more natural appearance. More about the product itself, what it does do, is moisturize as promised. It also washes off with a little bit of effort however, do not use a facecloth until it is all gone to avoid staining. I used baby wipes at first to clean my face then followed up with my normal face cleaning routine. The value for performance is off balance. There are powder bronzers on today's market that far outperform this product without having to heavily apply layers of makeup. The overall appearance of the packaging is nice and in tradition with L’Oreal Paris trademark packaging. They thoughtfully created a color cap close to color of the bronzer lotion. This was smart packaging. The cap clicks open with little effort and closes securely. The tube itself is not too wide and easy to handle. The packaging was super. No damage was found from distributor to my home. Walmart shipped via FedEx packaged in a box. I am not very happy with this product and, would not recommend to my family and friends.The quality for the value did not exceeded my expectations and I would not purchase this product for myself or others.Love

I am always very skeptical, of these instant tan products. I have tried many different types and different brands, over the years. I have not been satisfied with any of them, as they have all given my skin an orange tint. I still continue to try new instant tan products, though, hoping to one day find one that does a nice job and does not give my skin an orange tint. I had high hopes, for this L'Oreal Sublime Bronze. L'Oreal is a respected brand, which I have used previously, and I thought the description, of the product, sounded promising. It claims to be a 5-IN-1 formula that delivers spectacular results; instant summer tan, blurred imperfections, flawless finish, improved softness and 24 hour hydration. "Because You're Worth It." Well, it certainly sounds wonderful! Unfortunately, the lovely smelling cream gives my skin the dreaded orange tint. A single layer is not too bad, it gives my skin a little color, with only a slight orange tint. However, if I apply a second time for a "more intense result", my skin is Smurf orange. The product has ingredients that consist of water, as the first ingredient, mineral oil, palm oil and a host of other ingredients that cannot be easily pronounced. It also contains fragrance, that I must say is very nice. That was a surprise, as most other instant tan products that I've tried, had an unpleasant scent. This product smells really fresh and pretty, so that's a plus. I wanted to use this product on my legs. I live in Florida and have worn jeans, over the winter – so I have tanned arms and pale legs. I was hoping to give my legs some color, so I could wear shorts and not look so uneven. I think I might be able to use this product, for that purpose, but I may be a bit self-conscious about it, because of the orange tint. So I will only use it, until my legs get some color of their own. This product has no sunscreen. If you want to tan, while using it, and need to use a sunscreen, this product will be affected, by the application of additional products. Everybody has different types of skin and this may not give everybody an orange tint – but it does, to me, so I can't recommend it.Katseye5150

I really like the Disco Candy tan. It doesn’t really have a sweet smell to me, but doesn’t smell like fake tan either! I usually put it on in the morning and leave it on all day, so if I see any spots I can fix then as they develop. I like to leave mine on for a full day so I will be bronzed for long before I rinse off. Never had any transfer onto clothing! Well before I rinse this off, I use Plump up the Bronze lotion to even it out over night. I use this as a quick tan because it fades quickly if you’re a frequent hand/face washer. This tanner is awesome! This formula smells great & dries quickly, and I don't have to be as cautious about not getting near anything damp while the color develops. The product is very green at first, but it turns into a lovely olive tan. Be sure to follow the recommended exfoliate-shave-moisturize routine before tanning, and I usually let this brand develop for at least 2 hours before rinsing. I will say be very cautious with your hands! That's the only place the color got a bit splotchy, but my hand washing habits have blended most of that out within a day of wear.Abby

Full disclosure: this is my first EVER use of a self tanner… and this stuff really does live up to the hype. It didn't leave me streaky, it didn't turn me orange, and it blended into the skin beautifully. And it does last a long time. I applied 2 coats, left on for 4 hours, rinsed off and my tan lasted for a week. The smell isn't great, but it isn't unpleasant either. I do have a few concerns about this product though, maybe it was because it was my first time ever using a self tanner and it was user error, but around my ankles and feet looked awful… like I had walked straight through a mud hole. I was a little embarrassed about it tbh… now I know to avoid those areas I guess. 💁‍♀️ my other concern is how it's labeled: "darkest candy scented"….. I would not consider this tan DARK at all… maybe medium AT BEST, if you do 2 coats and wait 4 hours… and that is coming from someone who's legs have NEVER seen the light of day… maybe I just misinterpreted the label, and yet, another user error, but I found it very misleading.brandi.w

I've been using this tanner for a few weeks and I love it. I tan regularly at home and this one is my favorite so far. I'm very pale and with fall here I've lost all my summer tan already. This one is super easy to use, it's a beautiful deep color and not orange a bit. It's easy to apply and doesn't streak my hands or feet. Smells good and I love the hyaluronic acid, makes my skin super hydrated ans plump. Love it!Kayla91

I really like mine tan plump up the bronze everyday glow whip! It's really easy to apply and gentle on the skin. I also love that it came with a mitt so that I wouldn't get my hands darkened. I've been putting it on everyday for a week and a half and my skin tone has tanned evenly and has given my skin a nice natural glow. No orange or streaks if applied correctly. Just make sure you still wash your hands after using the mitten application.Micromom

I am always very leery about any type of faux tanning product however this whip is amazing. The color is very natural looking, there is no orangey appearance and there is no gross chemical burns smell that can occur with other products. I was thoroughly impressed also with the mitt that came with it as it makes application very simple. Don’t be afraid of this one! It’s good!Kady

This is the first time I’ve used a natural sunless tanner. Maybe my expectations were too high, but I was disappointed. I applied per directions on the website but the coverage was still less than stellar. I had streaks on my arms and legs. The smell of the product is fairly innocuous in the bottle but once it dries on your skin it smells like conventional sunless tanner which I’m not a fan of. The color is nice. I have fair to light skin and I ordered the #2 tanner. I’ll continue to use this product, but I won’t purchase it again.Michelle H.

I’m shocked at how GREAT this is! I’m still new to clean beauty & was surprised to see a self tanner. I chose Level 1, the lightest shade because it’s Winter & I wanted something subtle…& just in case this didn’t look great on me, I figured it’d fade faster in the lightest shade! Level 1 is perfect for a subtle glow…100% love! I’ll definitely pick up Level 2 when I’m ready for more color. This was the first tanning foam I've bought after having a semi-traumatizing experience with tanning water turning me into a literal orange. It was super easy to apply with the Bondi Sands applicator mitt, and I had no issues with streaks or splotchiness. I also applied the foam to my face with a fluffy makeup brush, and there were no problems either. I let it soak into my skin and dry for about an hour, and then I put on loose fitting clothes and went to sleep. When I woke up my white bedsheets had a pink tint where I was laying, but the stain came off easily in the washer. The main issue is after one shower the majority of the color came off as well (I patted my skin dry with a towel afterwards instead of swiping). Its a shame because the color looked so nice before showering. After two washes the color was completely gone. The shipping method is also so annoying but that's not related to the performance of the product. On a positive note, the application to my face did not cause any breakouts, which is surprising considering I have sensitive/acne-prone skin.Olivia

So the color is great, not orange at all. However, it's so sticky and does not dry easy. It's easier to work around in the summer, I just put on a bikini and go outside and it dries a little faster. It's so annoying because it transfers on everything when you sleep. Who wants stained sheets? It's 2022 not 1990, fix the formula. Other self tanners don't stain, so obviously it can be fixed. The color is nice though, but you need to leave it overnight or for 6 hours unless you actually are somehow able to reapply again after two hours and somehow touch absolutely nothing for a couple hours after that because the second coat will stain any and everything you touch. So overall, I will probably not use again as it's too high maintenance. But if given free I would absolutely use. FYI for value: St. Moritz tanner is like $10 and doesn't stain and dries easier. So I will def go back to that. Loving tan gives the most realistic tan but it's expensive. And Lamakiage is the absolute worst tanner I've ever used. This one from Bondi sands I would rate somewhere in the middle.Heather

I purchased this tan because I was sick of using tans that leave you feeling so sticky and transfer quite a lot after applying. I have been using the loving tan before so thought I would give this a try as it’s more affordable and I liked the fact it had the Aragon Oil in it to moisturise your skin as mines would get quite dry with tan. There is no colour guide when applying this so you sort of have to make sure everything is rubbed in as best you can. After applying I have never in my life felt so sticky! I stood for at least half an hour before dressing and still felt like I was so wet and slippery! I felt absolutely horrible. Also everyone said no transfer? Well my clothes are covered with transfer so if anyone could please tell me what I’ve done wrong. This tan has definitely gave off the worst transfer I have ever had. Don’t get me wrong it is a beautiful sun-kissed colour (that’s after two coats) and doesn’t stink as bad the way other tans do. Also my hands look quite nice. I normally find they’re quite hard to tan and I found this tan didn’t stick to them and leave them patchy. I bought the gradual tanning milk to top it up my body and leave it darker if I desire. If you are after a natural glowy tan then use this one but if you liked being dark and bronzed then the ultra dark one is the best option.Lyndsay

I am a self-tan addict and I have tried many, many brands and product types over many years! I have high standards for how my tan looks and I hope my review is helpful! The body product is overall very nice but the price is less impressive when you realize how quickly you go through the bottle. The face lotion is nice too, but I'm not blown away and I don't like that it makes my face sweat profusely after application. The good: color result is beautiful and lasts a long time when compared to other brands (I swam in non-chlorinated water and it wore very well), non-streaking, no color guide is nice because it doesn't transfer onto fabrics, and it looks very natural. The bad: the product would only be a good price if there was double the fluid ounces in each bottle – I went through the entire bottle in only 2-3 applications and that was very disappointing (I'm not a large person). It does start to get splotchy on hands, between breasts, and elbow/knee ditches after a few days but I've never found a product that does not do that (I believe because skin cells naturally shed). I won't be buying the face lotion again but I will repurchase the body lotion. I will, however, continue looking for a product that is better because I'm not convinced that this is the best out there. I, like many of you I'm guessing, have tried numerous self tanners. After a skin cancer scare a few years ago, I'm much more diligent about protecting myself from the sun but also love that tan glow. I bought the face tanning serum and the dark body tanning lotion. I have tried drugstore brands, Rodan & Fields, Beauty by Earth, Isle of Paradise, St Tropez, etc etc etc. I will say this self tanning lotion is my favorite. I'm still deciding on the face serum, but the lotion is a natural glow with less of an odor than others I have tried. I like that the face serum contains ingredients that actually help fine lines and wrinkles. I like that the body lotion isn't thick or "gooey" feeling and dries quickly. It doesn't stain clothes. I absolutely love this product! I am an avid self-tanner lover and have tested MANY different types and brands over the years. I discovered this brand and their products and decided to give it a try due to the great reviews. I can honestly say this has become the only self-tanner I use. I have used this product for about two years now and I kid you not, every single time I wear this I get a compliment on how good/natural it looks. This is the best self tanner you will ever use. Seriously, this is a must have. Super seamless, natural-looking tan, with zero blotchiness because the mist is very fine. I always get compliments on the color too. A much healthier alternative to excessive UV rays (though a healthy amount of sun is still great.) I like to apply after a shower before bed-time and make sure to spray evenly over my face and neck at about 7 inches away. I wipe the very edge of my hairline just, in case the product has built up and in the morning I’m all set, though if you’re having a no-other-face-products kind of day, you could totally wear this out. It gives a subtle dewy glow. It lasts about a week for me. I’ve never had a problem with this product staining any of my fabrics but I always heir on the side of caution and sleep with a shirt that I wouldn’t mind getting stained. I would also put a shirt on my pillow if I had white pillow shams, but mine are red and this product has never stained them. Totally worth the purchase even if you’re just vaguely considering it. Not into it? Exfoliate and return it, though I feel like criticisms on this product are rare. I have to say, I was really impressed with this self tanner. It was really easy to use, you literally just spray 5 – 6 pumps on your face neck and decolletage, and leave it, you don't even have to rub, massage or spread it on. It's a spray and go. I applied it before bed and it didn't rub off in the night. I woke to a gentle natural glow, which I was pleased about as I was weary I'd end up looking like an oompah loompah, but I didn't. The texture is non greasy, and it has a lovely soft floral fragrance which is really pretty. Also you don't have to wait half an hour for it to dry or set, it's literally seconds! You also can apply it before or after your makeup, I applied it to a freshly cleaned face. Overall I would say that this product would be an excellent purchase, definitely worth getting, especially through the sunless winter months, to give yourself that soft natural glow, and get rid of the porcelain skin. I rarely go without self tanner nowadays, so I had to pull from the archives to get a before photo. But! This is undoubtably the BEST affordable self tanner on the market. Though I am now a whiz at self tanning, this was the product I used for my very first attempt so please know that I am writing from a beginner and veteran’s standpoint. It is user-friendly, blends well, and (most importantly) does not pull orange! The finish is a gorgeous olive tone that cannot be achieved with other more expensive brands. I tried venturing into “higher end” self tanning as I got more comfortable, but I come back to St. Moriz every time. And for reference, I typically let it sit for about 5 hours before washing off and ALWAYS exfoliate before. I also always apply moisturizer to drier areas like my elbows, knees, and ankles beforehand to avoid dark spots.cheramie.w

I absolutely love this fake tan, I have tried alot of what St Moriz has to offer and this one by far wins! It goes on so smoothly, make sure you use a good quality mitt otherwise it wont work as well! (the luxury black glove mitt by st moriz is the one I use and its fantastic!). The tan also dries really fast compared with other tans I have used, once applying a few layers it dries within 5/10 minutes and I can get dressed either for bed or just a day in the house. I tend to leave my tan on either ovenight or for about 4-6 hours during the day and it washes off to a lovely golden shade, just remember to moisturise dry areas like your knees and elbows! I highly reccomend this tan, just make sure you use a good quality mitt & moisturise first! xJune38

I'd used the lotion before so decided to try this… they're VERY different! Initially the spray goes on pretty dark, and it's virtually impossible to get even coverage without assistance. (It also gets everywhere so careful where you use it!) Once on you have to wait 6hrs then shower off with just plain warm water- no soap etc, but you cant even get caught in light rain during that 6hrs because it WILL run and go patchy! The colour does rinse off to a fairly nice shade, but the colour doesn't last as well as the lotion on me. Its not a bad product overall, and it's good vfm, but its not as simple and easy to use as it claims. I'm going to persist with it as I have 3 darned bottles of the stuff now! but that's my bad… The other thing I would say is wear loose dark clothing and undies after application, it will stain during the 6hrs 'curing' time, and I wouldn't try using it before bed either. The slightest hint of perspiration will send it streaky and patchy, and your bed linen will never forgive you! Maybe I just need to get the hang of application a bit more, idk… well I've got 3 bottles, so we'll see! If I had to pick on anything specific though, it is a little tricky finding 6hrs to set aside between application and showering off, but again-maybe thats part of the learning curve, & it does look somewhat alarming when you first spray it on. I'd recommend having several old bath towels, a set of marigold gloves, and an understanding friend or partner to hand! If you have fair skin like me and want a natural looking tan, this is the product for you. If you want a super dark tan, this is not for you. There is a green tinted guide color in the mousse to help you apply evenly so you will look extra dark and streaky until you rinse off in the shower. Once it washes off it's obviously lighter but more natural looking. Then it gets a little darker over the next 8 hours or so. The people complaining about it being streaky when first applying and color washing off in the shower didn't read the description on the bottle because it's supposed to do that. Also yes, I agree it is sticky and has a smell until you rinse off but I've never tried a self tanner that doesn't have that. I put on loose clothes after a couple mins despite the stickiness and have never had issues with transfer. I always apply it when I plan to not leave the house for a few hours. I've tried a lot of self tanners and have stuck to this one for the last year because it's the easiest to apply (because of the guide color), has the best end result color (not orange), and I like that I only have to have it on for 3 hours. I apply once a week and the big bottle lasts me over 2 months.Ali429

The self-tanner itself is a fantastic product. Beautiful and easy to blend. And simple to put on. The smell is passable-neither its fantastic not awful, but it doesn't matter. I have really sensitive skin and its gentle on it. Neither a burning not itchy sensation. Didnt produce any inflammation or pain. The tan has a nice, silky mousse consistency. Sharp lines are simple to perceive, and you can tell where you have applied it. Many additional tanning treatments,including ad moisturizers, make it difficult to detect where you have applied them, preventing the formation of sharp lines once you have browned. You have varied time restrictions while using self-tanner depending on the shade you want. If your skin is very fair, one hour will give you a faint tan. It takes 2 hours to achieve a lovely medium look, and three hours to achieve your distinctive look if you have dark skin. Other then that, the self-tanner is a simple and quick product. I first tried St Tropez about 15 years ago when self tanning at home started to trend more, it was the best then and it's the best now. I've tried all the major brands over the years, the expensive £30 ones and the cheap £5 ones and none of them compare to the OG – St Tropez. The formula is so silky it simply glides onto your skin and blends so well with a mitt, it really is fool proof. It smells nice as you apply, it's not overwhelmingly fragranced. I won't deny there is the tell tale fake tan smell as it develops but I just think whatever brand and whatever the packaging boasts you cannot get away from the smell, however with the St Tropez it isn't as strong. I leave it on overnight as I like a darker tan which this achieves without looking orange. It develops to suit my skin tone. It fades pretty evenly without going patchy, but you often get a build up in the creases of your body, again that's the same with all tan so I often scrub these areas a bit harder of loosen with a body oil. I bought this on a whim after seeing several adverts on Instagram, yet I’m SO impressed. I’m rubbish with fake tan and I even struggle with gradual tanners because my skin is so pale. My veins are very noticeable and a blue/green appearance and I find anything I use ALWAYS appears streaky no matter how hard I try to follow the instructions. After just one application of this, my skin was glowing beautifully. The colour is amazing. Not orange or yellow… I just look like I’ve got the start of a tan. It soaks in instantly (I can’t bear that “sticky” feeling you can end up with) and my skin is so soft. I managed to wash it off my palms easily so no tell-take signs there. I bought the light option and it suits me perfectly. I will definitely be buying this again as I love it.MrsB

This is the first time in years that I've used a fake tan. The lotion has a pleasant vanilla smell. It's easy to apply and sinks nicely into the skin. The next morning I'm a lovely light tan colour, not yellow nor orange. I exfoliated and use a intense moisturiser in the days before using this – so I had no streaking. Hello!! I have been self tanning for about 40 years yes I’m that old!! Anyway this is the BEST SELF TANNER I’ve ever used I mean it!! And it’s affordable. The spray nozzle works upside down sideways it works. The color comes out beautiful if you layer it, you can darken it and it continues to darken it dryS QUICKLY!! I’m telling you people you need to try this if you don’t like pale skin or need to even out your town this product really really works!! This product produces a fair color, however DO NOT use this product if you have not applied spray tan before. It takes time, effort, and a steady hand to create an even tone. Color goes on fast and heavy so there is little room for error. I reccomend to everyone treating this product similarly to a Mystic Tan: exfoliate first & allow 8hrs for your skin to dry; hold at least 10 inches from body & use a tanning glove to remove excess; use a blow dryer if necessary; even your color by using a natural lotion over your entire body once tan is nearly dry. **Witch Hazel always strips a bad tan. **Windex will give you a quick fix for stains on the hands.emilros_34

If you asked me which products I’d be inclined to buy stock in, or ask for a share in their company, my pasty self would without hesitation tell you “tanning products”. I have tried hundreds of self tanners, and I’d be willing to bet you couldn’t name one I haven’t tried (seriously try me). With that being said, I now label myself a “self tanner connoisseur”. Its been a long splotchy, and Orange Road learning to differentiate between the tanners that make you look like an Oompa Loompa vs. the ones that make you look like a glowing goddess that just landed back home from her lavish vacation in Fiji. I digress. THIS product has surpassed my insanely high standards with flying golden radiating colors. Whether you need some color instantly before a night out, or you want to deepen/luster up your already tan skin, this is the product for you. After a few sprays of this gold in a bottle, you achieve a deep bronzey tan that has NO orange or ill undertones. Also, It dries within minutes so you won’t have to prance around your air conditioned house in the nude for a half hour. Another added bonus, it lasts for a few days with no reapplication. The single reason I deducted a star is because when you wear this, you may want to avoid white. It will transfer when you sweat, and if you’re wearing a white top/white skirt you will end up looking like a hot brown stained mess. Overall I definitely recommend for my pasty girls. Xosamantha.l

Great product. I’ve tried almost everything from loving tan and other brands. Caveat that I prefer the ultra dark from the non-express, though this is my backup when I’m going to restock and my preferred is out. It’s nice to alternate between developing time, too. The color after two hours is great, non streaky, deep, and golden. Sometimes I will still sleep in it as I’m used to the 6-8 hour development time of the standard formula. I don’t wake up looking over developed. Exfoliation makes the difference in a poor/good application. Exfoliate properly! This will stain sheets or clothes when wearing. Sometimes I will blowdry on cool or stand in front of my fan to help wirh dressing but it will transfer if not careful. If it’s on sheets or clothing, it comes out still in the wash. Make sure you have a mattress protector under your sheets, too! Use lotion afterwards to preserve.emilee.g

This is a Holy Grail product for sure. I have naturally pale olive skin and this literally looks like my skin tone, but darker. There is not even a whiff of orange in this formula. I have tried Loving Tan 8-hour and this Express formula; there are trade-offs. With any Express formula, after the time passes (2 hours) you RINSE off the guide color (no soap) and the color continues to develop up to 24 hours. Do not apply lotion, and try to avoid water during this 24 hour period. Loving Tan sells the overnight formula in Ultra Dark color, which I prefer, BUT I find the 2 hour formula more convenient. If the color isn't dark enough, just reapply after 24 hours. This product goes on easily with the applicator mitt (also way better quality than drugstore brands) and comes off after a week with a bit of scrub and an exfoliating mitt. In the meantime it fades evenly – EVEN IN WATER. If I use self tanner to go to the beach, I still want to go in the water! This product absolutely lets you do that, it'll just fade without leaving patches. My one and only complaint is that after opening, the bottle leaks if you don't keep it vertical. I still brought it on a plane on vacation though. Nothing a Ziploc can't fix. Just try it y'all.Elle

Like most self-tanners, I am constantly chasing the high of finding *the* perfect tanning product. Problem is, I really don't think it exists. However this is pretty close. I am naturally pale with dark features and warm undertones so the "orange"ness of this product doesn't bother me. I feel like it develops into a solid brown with red undertones. Not to offend anyone, but I don't find that product works well on blondes or anyone with cool undertones. The contrast is too dramatic and it DOES look more orange. All of this said, the product works best if you keep it on between 3-4 hours (any longer I find it can get splotchy) and then sleeping while it develops. The color 8 hours after rinse is amazing. It can be quite drying and can be difficult to exfoliate it off, but it's not unbearable. Just take a hot shower and scrub with a wash cloth and soap. Color lasts about 4 days before it starts to get splotchy.Bella

I've had many tan disasters in the past but none with this . .I am really liking this product. Following instructions I have been reapplying alternate days and golden glow maintained even with my frequent visits to swimming pool. First application I got tan build up on my toes but have thoroughly. exfoliated and apply cream minimally to this area and problem resolved . Does not come off on bed sheets . On one occasion I had tan build up on my hands so now make sure I wash them well after applying . Don't forget because it is difficult to get off. I am applying in small amounts so will for sure have a bottle to be early with tanning next summerpolly7

I thought this trio would be a good way of trying this product out, as I was intrigued by presentations that said there was no fake tan biscuit smell. The initial scent is pleasant, the product goes on well and gave a lovely subtle colour on my porcelain pale legs ….. ….BUT that distinctive biscuits aroma started to appear around 2-3 hours after application and steadily got stronger. The day after application it was VERY strong and I had only done my legs. I'm not sure why the presenters say there is no biscuit aroma when there clearly is? I cant bear to use this again and will be returning it, as I bought it on the basis it didn't smell like biscuits. I'm glad to have had the opportunity to try this and two stars as I really liked the natural looking colour … it's just a shame about the smell.PinkAngel09

I am extremely fair, the fairest of the fair (porcelain with freckles). As I just go red and blister in the sun I have to rely on faux tanning products. I have to say Gatineau for me is up there with the worst no matter how I tried it just streaked and the fact this dried orange really showed up on my white skin as being orange and not 'a lovely golden glow', (it was also very patchy). My arms have freckles and the 'golden glow' made my freckles go a really dark brown making my arms just look weird. I've gone back to the supermarket and bought a well known cheaper brand which I have been buying for years to which I shall mix with the Gatineau to use it up. However, these problems may be because my skin is so white it might be better on skin with a slight colour to start with. As for the smell it does smell but I don't think it's unpleasant and doesn't seem to last too long.Bobby24

I'm a self tan expert at this point. I LOVE st. Tropes self tan but this watermelon one is TERRIBLE! Save your money and buy the classic or whatever other shade. This one rubs off literally when you take a shower. I was embarrassed to wear shorts the next day. Like I said I'm a self tan pro..that never happens! Don't waste your money on this one!Sara

This product works so well! First off it smells amazing and never loses its watermelon scent which I love because I hate the smell of self tanner! The mit is nice and helps the product glide on easily. It does not leave streaks or splotches. Its very even all over and leaves a natural tan so NO orange!! No matter how good this product may be for moisturising and giving a 'golden glow' for me after just one application, it's unusable. The smell of the cream is really choking, pungent and unpleasant, reminiscent of early fake tan products from decades ago. Worse, the odour doesn't fade either, hours after applying it I can still smell it. Very disappointing.HighHeelsNice

I received this in my May birchbox. I have never uses this type of product before. I used it on my legs and arms. So after a shower I make sure I'm completely dry and then put it on like a lotion. After a couple of hours I saw results: yes, light tan but terrible streaks in random spots on my legs. And because this looks like a regular lotion (white) there's no way to control the streakiness. And it continues to be this way the following day as well. So you'll get some tan but the streaks are more noticeable. Hard pass.noa.s

Cream Gorgeous! Smells good. No streaking when applied evenly. The color of a tanned body, not a yellow Chinese. The fact that there is a smell of a burnt body is nowhere without it, otherwise the cream would work. I really like this tan, I was a bit skeptical because it's a white, scentless lotion that seems a little sorbolene-y but it really does provide a nice, medium tan quickly. I would say it's similar in colour if not slightly darker to some medium-dark gradual tanning lotions I have tried. I'm quite fair skinned and I found that this gave me quite a visible tan after one use. I think it says to use it every second or third day which I'd say is accurate as it would probably be quite strong if used every day. I bought this after reading an influencer's review. It is a nice cream and it doesn't have a very strong smell (just a similar one to most of the creams of this type). I usually mix it with my daily moisturizer for best effects. Do not overdo it as it tends to have the same effect as other creams and make your skin orangey.iHerb Customer

I must say I was very nervous about trying this product since I have never used a one-day tan but this is now of my favorites from Bondi Sands!! It is so easy to apply and I love wearing it over my tan for special events. It makes me look like I just got back from a week at the beach! I received so many compliments and no one could tell that my tan is fake. It is almost like wearing a foundation on your body but without the heavy feeling. Dries fast and stays dry. I have always used gradual tan but decided to try the Instant tan, this product is fabulous! Goes on easy once you’ve prepared your skin leaves skin smooth silky and lovely sun kisses tan perfect for those days where the suns out and your need and instant tan! Best one day tan i've had. I apply with a mitt, goes on great, looked like I had just come back from holiday. Once dry didn't have any clothes staining. Washes off with soap and water. This is great for an instant tan, takes just a matter of minutes. No more not wearing shorts or skirts because legs not brown enough. My only recommendation would be to moisturise before application as it can highlight dry skin a bit.MAGS

I was looking for a new tan after my regular weekly go to tanning mousse St Moritz changed there ingredients. I was breaking out in dry patches and it gave me an allergic reaction all over. i also tried dove gradual tanning moisturiser and mousse but got bored having to apply it every day for over a week to get a slight glow. I decided to give Garnier Natural Bronzer Self Tan Mousse tmafter spotting it in my local Superdrug and i will NEVER use any other tan ever again. It is AMAZING. The smell is not the best but it doesnt transfer to my bedsheets, Pj's, clothes or towels. I woke up with an amazing bronze look after applying the previous night and a week later i dont look like a loaf of tiger bread. Even after 5 days it only just starta to fade! I bought this thinking it’s a game changer. Not only does it not dry down like other products it also stinks. The coconut smell it says it has is somewhat true but the smell is over powering. It wipes off your skin it won’t last a week & the colour you become is more orange then tanned. If you jump in the bath it doesn’t wash off like other products do. It clings to your skin more but your left with residue you wouldn’t want especially if your gearing up for a night out. Your hands also develop more then your body.The most honest of review

I’ve been using this Fake tan for years and it’s the best tan you can buy. I can’t rate this enough. If you HATE sticky tans that don’t dry down then this is for you. It dries down completely. I can put this on and go out in it without washing it off . You can’t feel any tan is on you. it doesn’t streak , smells lovely gives a beautiful colour.
