20 Best Tanner For Pale Skin (Feb 2023 Update)

I have a VERY light complection so the sun and I are not compatible. I wear shorts and my legs glow in the dark so I really like to use a sunless tanner. I've tried all different kinds of sunless tanners and orange is not my color. This tanner does not leave me orange and I've even got compliments on it from good friends that aren't afraid to tell me like it is. Lol. You HAVE to exfoliate your skin before using ANY sunless tanner or you will have streaks. I followed the directions and used latex gloves for application. A small amount goes a long ways. It takes two to three applications to get the darkness I want. (Light to medium darkness) and then a small amount after showers to maintain it. It is pricey but I think it's worth it since everything else turns me orange. I really like this product.pinkwater62

This is my favorite tanning lotion I've tried yet. Have already bought 3 bottles. It doesn't leave you streaky or orange at all. Good for your face as well . It doesn't smell bad either. The St. Tropez Self-Tan Luxe Whipped Créme Mousse gave me a beautiful “I just got home from vacation” glow! I applied the mousse directly on one leg and quickly spread the product in circles using the double sided luxe tan applicator mitt, then repeated the process on the second leg. Once I felt confident that I knew I was doing I did my arms, chest, stomach, lower back, and only needed a little bit of help to get between my shoulder blades. For the hands I recommend creating a claw and just using the excess product so that you don’t end up with hands that are too dark. Honestly it saved me so much time and a trip to the tanning salon. The tanning mitt is an absolute must, you simply wash it with soapy water after you’re done applying to the body and it looks like new! You will notice a difference immediately and the tan gradually develops throughout the day. I don’t recommend wearing white immediately after tanning because it will stain your clothes, and just like most tanning products have a distinct scent, this one does too. Gifted by St. Tropez. I'm a big fan of the original limited edition version of this self tanner and was so sad when it was sold out before I bought a back up. Fortunately, I still have some of my old can and was able to do a side by side test to see what (if any) differences there are between the original and the new version. TLDR: not the same but 95% similar. Divisive between my husband and I, he prefers new shade and I still prefer older can. There's an immediate shade difference recognizable from just dispensing the product onto the tanning mitt which originally put me off. One thing that was so amazing with the first version was how olive toned it was – made it much more natural looking than typical orange tanners. This new version color guard is very orange and unappealing. I left my tanner on my legs for 12 hours before I washed it off. The results were completely unexpected – almost the exact same color. Honestly, based on how it went on I was ready for extreme disappointment (and embarrassment for having two different color legs). The difference is really in the undertones and really only if you're looking for a difference. My husband didn't even realize I had two different shades on until I pointed it out. There's also a slight difference in depth, the new version is deeper and I feel has more opacity to it (or maybe I just applied a fuller layer of it), which also added more dimension. It seems more like a flushed out tanned beach body versus a natural shade up progression. Moving away from comparing old and new and just focusing on the new can. I don't like this packaging, I felt like it was harder to dispense the product than previous nozzle versions. Love the mitt, St. Tropez has the best mitts hands down. I am a self-tan addict and I have tried many, many brands and product types over many years! I have high standards for how my tan looks and I hope my review is helpful! The body product is overall very nice but the price is less impressive when you realize how quickly you go through the bottle. The face lotion is nice too, but I'm not blown away and I don't like that it makes my face sweat profusely after application. The good: color result is beautiful and lasts a long time when compared to other brands (I swam in non-chlorinated water and it wore very well), non-streaking, no color guide is nice because it doesn't transfer onto fabrics, and it looks very natural. The bad: the product would only be a good price if there was double the fluid ounces in each bottle – I went through the entire bottle in only 2-3 applications and that was very disappointing (I'm not a large person). It does start to get splotchy on hands, between breasts, and elbow/knee ditches after a few days but I've never found a product that does not do that (I believe because skin cells naturally shed). I won't be buying the face lotion again but I will repurchase the body lotion. I will, however, continue looking for a product that is better because I'm not convinced that this is the best out there. I, like many of you I'm guessing, have tried numerous self tanners. After a skin cancer scare a few years ago, I'm much more diligent about protecting myself from the sun but also love that tan glow. I bought the face tanning serum and the dark body tanning lotion. I have tried drugstore brands, Rodan & Fields, Beauty by Earth, Isle of Paradise, St Tropez, etc etc etc. I will say this self tanning lotion is my favorite. I'm still deciding on the face serum, but the lotion is a natural glow with less of an odor than others I have tried. I like that the face serum contains ingredients that actually help fine lines and wrinkles. I like that the body lotion isn't thick or "gooey" feeling and dries quickly. It doesn't stain clothes. I absolutely love this product! I am an avid self-tanner lover and have tested MANY different types and brands over the years. I discovered this brand and their products and decided to give it a try due to the great reviews. I can honestly say this has become the only self-tanner I use. I have used this product for about two years now and I kid you not, every single time I wear this I get a compliment on how good/natural it looks. This is my second Jergens Tanning Mouse that I bought. I first bought the lighter shade as I’m quite pale and new to tanning. I love these products. I apply with a mit. I watched a lot of YouTube videos as well for tips and tricks and application techniques. It is fast drying. I wait probably 15-20 mins to get dressed after applying but it dries in a few minutes. I don’t feel sticky after either. I have never had it rub off dramatically. I was wearing a tight crop top a few hours after and it rubbed off a little bit in the seam. Yea I believe it has a color guide just so you can see where you are applying it. When you first shower 8-12 hrs later, you may see that come off but it leaves color behind on your skin. There is a little scent left over. To me it smells like freshly peeled potatoes! I know that’s odd but it isn’t too strong to me. Overall great product! I'm not a newbie when it comes to tanning lotions. I am pale or red when it comes to tanning naturally. Anyways, I showered, shaved, exfoliate, add a little lotions to elbows/knees/ankles and applied the the foam with a mitt. Just like I would with any other tanning lotion I ever used. It was easy to see where you applied which I liked. Yet, later that day my legs were uneven tan (same amount of lotion and circular motions) no water or sweat after applying. To describe my outcome is going out to the garden and getting dirt on you.. some areas have dirt while other areas are still untouched. My tan looks hideous and I had to go out and about on mother's day looking horrible. Lesson learned : don't go cheap on a product and don't always trust reviews as I seen it was 4 stars and decided to try it for myself. Just ask a salon what they recommend instead. First, the application is fine, it’s a wet formula and goes on well. The smell however is awful, not just while it’s on, but for 48 hours and two showers later bad. I actually felt the need to apologize to people for how I smelled. My husband said it was disgusting. I have tried about 15 different self tanners for reference so definitely not a newbie. I had to put the color on two days in a row to get a tan, and then even now I’m not very tanned, hence the low rating. If I’m gonna smell the product should at least make me dark, and this fell very very short!!! I’m impressed with how natural it looks on hands and feet, and the color is at least a good color not orange, but if you want a dark tan, this is not for you. I also don’t want to bother with a self tanner that requires two applications for little payoff. I’m truly disappointed. I also purchased the ash one and I am hoping it’s better for color depth, though now I haven’t the highest hopes. I also ordered the coconut water one almost 3 weeks ago and it is lost in the mail with no communication from the company on what they are going to do to rectify and ensure I receive my product. For some reason the picture that it shows is different than the actual product. But what I’m reviewing is the hydra glow slew serum. It’s also a mine tan product, but it’s not for tanning, it’s just to improve the skin. I really like it, but for some reason it causes my skin to break out. I've been trying to find a good replacement for my (previous) favorite I can no longer buy. The journey was rough, but this color is amazing. You could also totally wear this out and about and not look dirty. It didn't fade as evenly as I would have liked, but the color alone is worth the extra upkeep. This self tanner didn’t irritate my skin but it did make me orange and stained my nails! You need to wear gloves with this…in the directions it says simply wash your hands. Also it came out streaky and uneven. I don’t recommend sleeping with this on. I will never use this again. I had a horrible experience. The three stars are only because it didn’t cause me any allergic reaction. Maybe there is a special technique but this didn’t work for me at all. I’m blonde and have a fair skin tone.Monica

I was super excited to try when I got this product. I’ve used it a total of 4 times, I like the color however after only using it 4 times my skin started to react to the product. I broke out in hives. I became super itchy, it started on my legs, continued up my belly and then to my arms. I liked the “tan look” but it came off in the areas where I had intense itching. I have small scabs on my legs from itching so bad, I had to use hydrocortisone cream to help relieve the itching.Kat B.

The 'Classic' shade is the perfect color for light/fairer folks! Most tanners come out super orange on me, this one is the least orangey I've come across. Even better than when I tried a full spray tan. You MUST use a mitt, it's the best hack ever for a smooth application and I wish I would have known about them years ago! Would have saved me from many streaks and dyed palms. It also allows you to get a clean line along/under the jaw, which creates a natural looking contour since I don't use the tanner on my face. I prefer a foam to an over-time lotiony type, so this is perfect for me. It darkens a bit over time, but since its mostly instant you can see any unevenness as you are applying. Exfoliate/shave a day or two before. Pile on lotion to elbows, knees, ankles right before applying. Foam goes on decently non-sticky. Buff buff buff with the mitt, circular motions going with the grain of any body hair. If you do get any spots on the fingers/toes, wipe with some nail polish remover right away and that should take any color off. Color lasts at least a week+ if you are careful to not exfoliate much.Katy

I hardly ever write reviews, which I know I should since I rely heavily on reviews when online shopping… but felt compelled to leave a comment because of two reviews I read here. One comment mentions that this tanner “washed away” when it comes in contact with water, and another mentions the “green tint” they got. These are not product flaws, that’s literally what it’s supposed to do. There is a purposeful tint that acts as a GUIDE for application. It’s SUPPOSED to be slightly greenish and it’s SUPPOSED to wash off lol. The guide helps you see where you’ve applied the tanner so you don’t miss a spot or don’t blend somewhere. The color develops over 8 hours (when it shouldn’t get wet), then you rinse or wash the guide color off. Very simple instructions on the bottle that explain that. That being said, St. Tropez is among the best self tanners available. I’ve been using it for years and years and it’s still my favorite. I’m pale with red hair and blue eyes and burn very easily, so I layer on the sunscreen, but I hate being pale/basically translucent. So I use St Tropez year round. One application every 3 weeks or so in the winter, and every 1-2 weeks in the summer (depending on how dark I want to be) helps me easily maintain a natural looking tan that’s long lasting. I honestly might buy two of these jumbo bottles. I’ve only ever seen this side during the anniversary say and it’s a fantastic value. One bottle should last me the rest of the summer and the other hurtle for fall-spring. Usually I buy a new bottle every couple of months! If you have fair skin like me and want a natural looking tan, this is the product for you. If you want a super dark tan, this is not for you. There is a green tinted guide color in the mousse to help you apply evenly so you will look extra dark and streaky until you rinse off in the shower. Once it washes off it's obviously lighter but more natural looking. Then it gets a little darker over the next 8 hours or so. The people complaining about it being streaky when first applying and color washing off in the shower didn't read the description on the bottle because it's supposed to do that. Also yes, I agree it is sticky and has a smell until you rinse off but I've never tried a self tanner that doesn't have that. I put on loose clothes after a couple mins despite the stickiness and have never had issues with transfer. I always apply it when I plan to not leave the house for a few hours. I've tried a lot of self tanners and have stuck to this one for the last year because it's the easiest to apply (because of the guide color), has the best end result color (not orange), and I like that I only have to have it on for 3 hours. The self-tanner itself is a fantastic product. Beautiful and easy to blend. And simple to put on. The smell is passable-neither its fantastic not awful, but it doesn't matter. I have really sensitive skin and its gentle on it. Neither a burning not itchy sensation. Didnt produce any inflammation or pain. The tan has a nice, silky mousse consistency. Sharp lines are simple to perceive, and you can tell where you have applied it. Many additional tanning treatments,including ad moisturizers, make it difficult to detect where you have applied them, preventing the formation of sharp lines once you have browned. You have varied time restrictions while using self-tanner depending on the shade you want. If your skin is very fair, one hour will give you a faint tan. It takes 2 hours to achieve a lovely medium look, and three hours to achieve your distinctive look if you have dark skin. Other then that, the self-tanner is a simple and quick product. I first tried St Tropez about 15 years ago when self tanning at home started to trend more, it was the best then and it's the best now. I've tried all the major brands over the years, the expensive £30 ones and the cheap £5 ones and none of them compare to the OG – St Tropez. The formula is so silky it simply glides onto your skin and blends so well with a mitt, it really is fool proof. It smells nice as you apply, it's not overwhelmingly fragranced. I won't deny there is the tell tale fake tan smell as it develops but I just think whatever brand and whatever the packaging boasts you cannot get away from the smell, however with the St Tropez it isn't as strong. I leave it on overnight as I like a darker tan which this achieves without looking orange. It develops to suit my skin tone. It fades pretty evenly without going patchy, but you often get a build up in the creases of your body, again that's the same with all tan so I often scrub these areas a bit harder of loosen with a body oil. I have used St. Tropez Classic for years and found it to be the best self tanner out there for my fair-medium freckled skin. After buying a recent bottle its clear the formula has changed drastically. The foam was very yellow instead of the brown color it usually is. When you put it on you turn yellow. Another reviewer described it as jaundiced and that's exactly it. After reading a review that said the same about the yellow color I immediately hopped in the shower to get it off quickly. Its terrible. I'm not sure what they did to the previous formula, but in Spring 2022 this is WAY off. I tried Tanologist (Dark, even though I lean fair-medium) and while its not what St. Tropez used to be, I'm happy with it since few self tanners get outstanding reviews. This a product I did not know I was missing out of on, until now after trying! I've tried self-tanning products in the past, and none of them stayed long-term. It ended up being too much work spreading the mousse with the glove, and let's face it, the strong terrible scent always stayed on my body. I'm loving this product- because it's so easy to use and works so well. I use it 2 x a week and mix it in the evening with my moisturizer. I love the glow it provides, and my body looks tan. I realized I only need 2 drops for my face, and 10 for the rest of my body. I applied 5 drops on my face the first time trying, and it was too much. With the 2 drops on my face, it blends really well with no streaks at all anywhere. This product does not break out my skin. I have a dry skin-type, and an extensive facial routine. I use a facial oil after applying this on my face. This serum contains alcohol, but it doesn't irritate my skin. I feel like I use enough moisturizing and hydrating products that it works really well. One more thing! I found out I'm pregnant, and I'm so happy that this is pregnancy-safe!!Iga_justdre

These drops do the job – not necessarily the same job every time, but the job nonetheless. I've used this product as an introduction to tan drops about 7-8 times and I do really like it, but I've had issues with consistency. I use it the same each time, but every resulting tan turns out slightly different from the last – sometimes my hands are extremely orange and splotchy even after washing several times during and post application, sometimes my face is unevenly tan, and sometimes there are random splotches on my legs and/or arms. This could most definitely be user error, but I've consistently used the same method each time and feel like the result is always a surprise. Perhaps if I used less drops for a more subtle tan, the results would be perfect. I first had difficulty with the tan taking on my legs as much as my upper body, but now I just do my legs twice and it works well. PROS: Easy and quick application with little to no residual smell. Love that you can mix it with whatever lotion you like. No post-application stickiness and dries very quickly. Way less streaky than mousse tans I've tried. You can easily control the level of tan you prefer – you can use it for a dark all-over tan or use it to touch up a slightly faded tan in one area. I usually do my entire body and then do my face/chest again with less drops on day 3 or 4. Lasts a surprising amount of time (usually about 7+ days for me with proper moisturizing and exfoliation). CONS: Difficult to see where you've previously applied product which can result in random splotches. Relatively inconsistent. Bottle doesn't last as long as you'd hope. Can turn hands orange even after several washes – I definitely recommend latex gloves for body and using a brush for hand application.Angela

I’m very fair skinned. I don’t necessarily burn in the sun but I don’t tan either. I’ve literally tried so many different tanning lotions etc. I even went for a few months to an actual airbrush tanner and while sometimes it would look okay, it almost always looked fake and I looked ridiculous. I seen a TikTok about using self tanner for contouring on your face so I said fine, it’s not my body. I’ll just try it on my face. I did it and it came out SO good that I decided to give it a try on my body. I used the “light” shade and it’s perfection. Made me dark enough to make a difference but it’s SO light and subtle.. I’m actually in shock at how great it came out! I exfoliated the day prior. Shaved and everything then before using, I rubbed regular lotion on areas like my feet, elbows etc then I used the mit that you can purchase with this and applied it from my feet up. It’s clear so that made remembering where I put it tricky lol but I mean common sense goes a long way… I plan to keep it up. Maybe reapply every week or so. Really really pleased! I love this product for its clean beauty and the light even normal non orange color it produced . I am pleasantly suprised. I don’t lay out in sun, my skin naturally becomes tan in late spring summer just walking my dog. I bought this to use for arms and legs before bathing suit season starts . Ease of use, no transfer , it drys in a few minutes and on first application it was very light . You shoukd exfoliate day before use and the best results . I did this and did a light spray on my arms and lower legs and chest. I wear my nails manicured and I even put on hands with a makeup sponge. Perfect.. just don’t keep spraying I find you spray in your hands and spread on fronts and backs of arms and legs . I wash my hands with a loofa type sponge so my palms are not orangey. If you use this and take your time , the results are so much better than other colored self tanners. I def recommend if you want some light sun kissed skin with capris and shirtsleeves try it. I have really pale skin and self tanning lotions or sprays have never looked good on me. Needless to say I didn't have very high hopes for these drops, but I am surprised to say I was proved wrong! These are a great choice for someone who has trouble getting an even look that doesn't look too orangey. Even though the bottle isn't very big it lasts quite a while. I found going conservative keeps you looking much more natural and gives the sun kissed look without an unnatural orangey appearance. If you use too much you may end up with the dreaded orange look. It's really easy to apply-just add a few drops to your normal body lotion or facial lotion and mix it up and apply like usual. For an even look I'd highly suggest to exfoliate properly beforehand, but even if you don't it applies pretty well and looks good when it's absorbed. The only downside to this product is that the tan doesn't seem to last a long time. It's there for about 3 days or so and then it's time to reapply. But because it's so easy to apply it's not too much of a hindrance. I also did have a slight amount of acne that popped up after use-although it may have just been my face reacting to a new product and it has since subsided just fine. Overall I'm happy with the product and will continue using it and will repurchase it.snarkshark

This is a great product! I got the exact tan I wanted, and it was simple enough to add to my lotion after my shower. It does have that typical fake-tanner smell, which I don't mind. It's not overwhelming, and it fades in a couple hours. Don't be convinced by the people who say this product streaks; that's just user error, and they don't know how to apply it properly. After showering and exfoliating my body, I used rubber gloves to apply it so my hands didn't stain. I squirt some lotion onto my finger, put about 5 drops (per area on my body) into my palm, then took my free hand to mix them together, and finally applied to each area just like I'm putting lotion on. No streaks, no patches, just a flawless, beautiful golden tan. This product does everything it claims, when used properly. BACKGROUND: Having said all that, I am not a fake-tanner. I don't have a lot of experience with it, I've never even been to a tanning salon (I'm 30). The most experience I have with fake tanning is a bottle of Jergen's natural glow I used at least ten years ago. I prefer the natural tan I get from being outdoors. However, I haven't had time to get outside as much as I'd like lately, and I've been craving that beautiful sun-kissed look. (Although, self tanner is just as harmful to your body as a sun tan due to the DHA or erythrulose in it, if not worse since you're not getting any vitamin D, in fact, it's depleting your body of the vital nutrient. This is the best self tanner you will ever use. Seriously, this is a must have. Super seamless, natural-looking tan, with zero blotchiness because the mist is very fine. I always get compliments on the color too. A much healthier alternative to excessive UV rays (though a healthy amount of sun is still great.) I like to apply after a shower before bed-time and make sure to spray evenly over my face and neck at about 7 inches away. I wipe the very edge of my hairline just, in case the product has built up and in the morning I’m all set, though if you’re having a no-other-face-products kind of day, you could totally wear this out. It gives a subtle dewy glow. It lasts about a week for me. I’ve never had a problem with this product staining any of my fabrics but I always heir on the side of caution and sleep with a shirt that I wouldn’t mind getting stained. I would also put a shirt on my pillow if I had white pillow shams, but mine are red and this product has never stained them. Totally worth the purchase even if you’re just vaguely considering it. Not into it? Exfoliate and return it, though I feel like criticisms on this product are rare. It was really easy to use, you literally just spray 5 – 6 pumps on your face neck and decolletage, and leave it, you don't even have to rub, massage or spread it on. It's a spray and go. I applied it before bed and it didn't rub off in the night. I woke to a gentle natural glow, which I was pleased about as I was weary I'd end up looking like an oompah loompah, but I didn't. The texture is non greasy, and it has a lovely soft floral fragrance which is really pretty. Also you don't have to wait half an hour for it to dry or set, it's literally seconds! You also can apply it before or after your makeup, I applied it to a freshly cleaned face. Overall I would say that this product would be an excellent purchase, definitely worth getting, especially through the sunless winter months, to give yourself that soft natural glow, and get rid of the porcelain skin. No streaks, blends well, beautiful color. I love the tanning foam one hour express. If you aren’t an experienced self tanner/ pro at your application, get the foam over the aero. It dries, but not as quickly as the aero so it gives you more time to apply and blend. I love how a little tan foam goes far and how buildable the tan is. I’m fair so I look my most natural golden tan with one coat. For beach days I have done two coats and you do get noticeably more tan!! While you can rinse the product after 1-3 hours, your tan will still take 6-8 hours to fully develop on your skin. I’ve slept in the foam 1 hour express and I’ve also rinsed it at the 2-3 hour mark and you get the same color so I really like having the option to rinse the tan before bed if I choose or to just fall asleep knowing my results will both look great. Apply tan to top of hands last and rinse hands at about 30-45 minutes if you plan to leave the tan on for 2-3+ hours. That’s worked for me to get the color balanced and blended with my arm color since hands absorb the color so quickly. The tan fades so well!! I get 4 great days before fading begins and can stretch it 7 if I incorporate the gradual tanning milk. I apply the tanning milk with the tanning mitt to keep my palms from the tan and it works great. I have been using fake tan for years. I am naturally fair skinned and my go to fave has always been the Bondi Sands Ultra Dark mousse. I only tried the Ultra Dark foam because the mousse was sold out and the foam was on offer, so thought I’d give it a whirl. I’m such a fan of Bondi Sands Ultra Dark foam (and mousse) Compared to other brands, it creates a deeper looking tan (no orange!) and it wears off evenly, which I really like. No patchy knees or ankles. Compared to the mousse, the foam dries a lot quicker. I like that too. No sticky feeling, it absorbs really well. There’s also less transfer onto clothes / bedsheets, before that morning shower. The only thing I have found (and this is simply user error, not a complaint!) is that I create a ball of foam to rub on myself, but as I rub it onto my skin the foam ball sometimes drops onto my carpet. I’ve applied the tan on two occasions and now have 4 splodges of tan to scrub out of my carpet. So maybe do smaller squirts of foam? For me though, this is the best tan out there at the moment and it’s not even that pricey compared to some of them.Lois

I don't really need any help in the suntan department as I have an olive complexion and tan very easily with little to no sunburn . However, I don't always have time to sunbathe and it's not particularly enjoyable during the summer months because it's JUST. SO. HOT!!! So, when I found this product, I was ecstatic. It's like a mouse so it goes on silky smooth . When I purchased my first can of this product, it came with a mitt for easy, even application. I apply it after a shower , allow it to dry before getting dressed, then go about my day finishing up household chores or scrolling through my instagram feed . Then, after about an hour , I rinse off quickly and glow. It has never left streaks or uneven splotches on my skin . It makes my skin soft and supple and it looks marvelous! I only reapply very few days and I've received lots of compliments on my tan ever since I started using this product!Liz

Very fair skinned! Burn easily! I have tried almost every kind of tanning lotions, oils, foams, always turning orange or having that dark fake look around my ankles, elbows, knees. Tried B. Tan Forever and I am sold!! I have followed the instructions, exfoliating, evenly applying, and faithful keeping my skin moisturized. WOW! My skin looks like I stepped out of a tanning bed or have a natural tanned glow! Beautiful! I dont look blochy as the week goes by and I reapply every seven days. I like some of this brands other tanners, so I decided to give this one a try. I put it on and slept through the night. The color was very dark when I woke up, but luckily most of it washed off in the shower to reveal a nice tan. I will never use this tanner again though, because it clung very strangely to my skin and looks super uneven. I’ve been tanning for a long time now and have never had this happen. I was exfoliated beforehand, so there was no dry skin for it to cling to. It’s very strange and really unflattering. I’ll stick with their other tanners.Lilly

I bought this on a whom 2 days ago at my local Walmart. I purchased a mitt to apply the product and I have to say it went on pretty easily I followed the directions by exfoliating 1st as it states on the bottle. I actually stumbled across a exfoliating sponge which was inexpensive and did a great job. I got a little braver by applying it to my face as well !!! The results were pretty amazing. The mousse has a color guard so you can see exactly where you are applying . I did not use cream or moisturizer on my elbows ,knees or heels but if you are really dry I would recommend doing that. I also learned a few tricks by watching u tube videos on how to achieve the best results and by adding a few of the tricks i.e. using a makeup blending brush for the top of my hands and feet really worked out to soften and help the look more soft and more real. The only con is after applying the smell is not pleasant it seems to get a little stronger as it drys but overall not as bad as some of the other products I have used in the past. I would highly recommend doing this at night and use an old sheet to lay on as some will transfer off. 8 hrs later after a good night's sleep wake up rinse not scrub in the shower and boom pretty nice results. I have already recommended this to friends and the price is awesome 9.97 and the mitt which is reusable 5.97 exfoliating sponge 2.97 so 19.00 bucks total and tanned for at least 3 days and if you use a gradual tan moisturizer it can last quite awhile. I am pale skinned and discovered the old branded version of this product (in the bronze bottle) a year or two ago which was the perfect colour and always streak free. Was more like a body lotion in consistency so easy to apply. Saw the promotion on the new branded bottles so assumed was the same but just different packaging and snapped two up as I use regularly. Unfortunately I was very disappointed to find St Tropez have *completely* changed the formula as well as the packaging and lotion is now thinner, much darker and like the old school fake tans from years back☹️Applied it anyway to try it out and found it is really strong smelling, thin and watery to apply and worst of all goes on with a noticeable green tinge-had my family calling me Shrek for the evening whilst I waited for it to dry!!!! Unsurprisingly the next morning I washed the guide colour off (thankfully the green didn’t stay on my skin!) but I was left with streaky arms and legs…I m a seasoned pro at tan application due to the need to apply frequently in the summer as I don’t tan easily and despite this I still had noticeable whiter patches which means I can no longer rely on this as my ‘go to’ tan. This is the worst product I have tried from St Tropez. They discontinued the old gradual tan firming lotion and replaced it with this one. It instantly sets and stains, there is nothing gradual about it. I used my hand first as this is the way I used to apply the old formula. It instantly turned my hand a greenish black seven after repeated washes. I used my mitt to apply the rest and I didn’t rub in one area of my leg fast enough and same problem instant blotchy streaks. After letting it dry for 30 minutes I got dressed and it stained my clothes. WORST TANNER I HAVE EVER USED! If I could give it zero stars I would.milkey

Really loved using this product as i love using St Tropez gradual self tans and was interested in using this firming gradual tan . It smelt gorgeous on application and application was fairly easy to apply it to my arms and legs. It absorbed fairly quickly and dried pretty quickly and it developed over the next 6-8 hours and I noticed the tan was a beautiful deep tan colour but also very natural. Loved that one application was enough for a gorgeous glow. It was also streak free especially around my wrists and ankles and was really natural and not orange. It also didn’t have the strong biscuity smell of most fake tans. Loved that you can build up the intensity day by day and incorporate this into your daily routine. I knocked off one star because the lotion is very emollient and if you use too much of the product it takes a good 3-5 mins to rub into the skin as it turns white on application! I noticed the second time I used less product this didn’t happen, so use less and gradually build up the application to avoid this happening in future! But I loved the results and would highly recommend to my friends and family.EmmaC77

Like so many others, I wanted to love this, and believed all the hype. The reviews on their website are glowing. I should have checked here first! This product is almost NOTHING like their amazing others. I’ve been using their Dark and Extra Dark mousse (in express and standard, respectively) for many years and adore them.
The Platinum tan is soo thick?! It applies like mud, it’s very difficult to blend, and the smell is strong- unlike the lovely scent of the others that goes unnoticed- my partner even asked me not to come to bed with that smell lingering on me!
It’s also so sticky! Don’t for a second press one body part against another for because you’ll have to peeeel yourself away! It’s like this for hours. I was so uncomfortable. The colour is Ok the first day. I mean it’s definitely not that dark. It’s a nice colour in my opinion but it definitely doesn’t stay on for as long as the others. Like so many other reviewers, I found it is starting to come off in patches, especially on my legs. I applied mine on Thursday and it’s now Monday and it’s fading fast.
I do not recommend this product. Hey, Loving Tan – why did you try and reinvent the wheel? This is a case of “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”.Gabrielle Vidler

I've been a die-hard Loving Tan girl for about a year now. I started with Dark, went to Ultra Dark, and then saw the new Platinum. I obviously HAD to try it. For background information, I have very pale, cool-toned skin. I really love both the Dark and Ultra Dark formulas from Loving Tan. Both have a true olive undertone – which you can clearly see if you let a small drop of self tanner dry on a piece of toilet paper or even in the cap (the color left behind is not tan, but rather a dark green color). Both of those formulas develop excellently on my skin, dry quickly, and give me an even color that lasts for about 4-5 days when moisturizing religiously 2x per day (1x when I wake up and 1x after my evening shower). The Ultra Dark is obviously darker than the Dark, but not dramatically so. Moving onto Platinum….overall, I am really disappointed in this formula. I appreciate Loving Tan trying to get darker than Ultra Dark, but this was such a miss for me. To start – the bottle claims an olive undertone, but this stuff is NOT olive. It is much rather a dark red, orange undertone which does not suit my cool undertones whatsoever. When I was applying the tan, I noticed the formula took FOREVER to dry. It felt wet/sticky on my skin, even after 15 minutes of standing naked underneath my ceiling fan and my AC on. With Dark and Ultra Dark, both tanners dried super quickly, in about 1 minute, 2 minutes completely. With platinum, I'm almost scared to put on my tanning outfit to wear to bed (I tan overnight) because of the length of time needed until it feels like it's dry. When I shower off the Platinum the next morning, it felt like a ton of the tan came off with the water. Not only that, it was SO splotchy. My chest did not take the tan at all, and even in the upper body areas that it did, it looked straight up orange. My legs typically looked fine, but did not feel dark at all. This color simply just is not platinum. It's a dark orange that fails to develop like the Dark and Ultra Dark. The color also took a long time to develop. I noticed I still felt pale, especially on my upper body, as if I hadn't applied self tanner at all! I often found myself reapplying the next night in areas like my chest, arms (places that didn't take the tan well) and the next morning I FINALLY had a *hint* of "platinum" (still not dark whatsoever, just basic tan). The tan also fades very unevenly, presumably due to the density of red/orange pigment used to achieve the "platinum" status. Overall: very disappointed with Platinum, but still a HUGE Loving Tan fan! Which explains the 2 stars. You're better off buying Dark or Ultra Dark, which develop nicely, dry quickly, gradually develop evenly, and have true olive undertones. I'm a dedicated self tanner and have tried SO many different brands over the years. I saw an ad for this one (and of course saw before & after photos) and decided to give it a go. It smells nice and doesn't have a typical 'self tanner' scent, so that's a pro. Im *very* Norwegian and my natural complexion is SO fair.. when I tan, I prefer a deep, dark color that lasts. It has an INSANE amount of bronzer in it, which is nice to use as a color guide (and it looks great while it's developing) but most of your tan will wash off when you shower. (Also- beware, my blonde hair was resting on my shoulder *after* my tan dried and it stained my hair for a couple of days. This bronzer is no joke 😂) It also dries my skin out like crazy which is a bummer. I've tried building the color over a few days and I'm honestly not impressed. This reminds me a lot of 'Fake Bake'. It works, but it's not worth $40-$65. I typically use the Tanologist mousse and I will absolutely be turning back to it after this experience.Alexandra

I've been using this tanner for a few weeks and I love it. I tan regularly at home and this one is my favorite so far. I'm very pale and with fall here I've lost all my summer tan already. This one is super easy to use, it's a beautiful deep color and not orange a bit. It's easy to apply and doesn't streak my hands or feet. I really like mine tan plump up the bronze everyday glow whip! It's really easy to apply and gentle on the skin. I also love that it came with a mitt so that I wouldn't get my hands darkened. I've been putting it on everyday for a week and a half and my skin tone has tanned evenly and has given my skin a nice natural glow. No orange or streaks if applied correctly. Just make sure you still wash your hands after using the mitten application.Micromom

I am always very leery about any type of faux tanning product however this whip is amazing. The color is very natural looking, there is no orangey appearance and there is no gross chemical burns smell that can occur with other products. This was the first tanning foam I've bought after having a semi-traumatizing experience with tanning water turning me into a literal orange. It was super easy to apply with the Bondi Sands applicator mitt, and I had no issues with streaks or splotchiness. I also applied the foam to my face with a fluffy makeup brush, and there were no problems either. I let it soak into my skin and dry for about an hour, and then I put on loose fitting clothes and went to sleep. When I woke up my white bedsheets had a pink tint where I was laying, but the stain came off easily in the washer. The main issue is after one shower the majority of the color came off as well (I patted my skin dry with a towel afterwards instead of swiping). Its a shame because the color looked so nice before showering. After two washes the color was completely gone. The shipping method is also so annoying but that's not related to the performance of the product. On a positive note, the application to my face did not cause any breakouts, which is surprising considering I have sensitive/acne-prone skin.Olivia

So the color is great, not orange at all. However, it's so sticky and does not dry easy. It's easier to work around in the summer, I just put on a bikini and go outside and it dries a little faster. It's so annoying because it transfers on everything when you sleep. Who wants stained sheets? It's 2022 not 1990, fix the formula. Other self tanners don't stain, so obviously it can be fixed. The color is nice though, but you need to leave it overnight or for 6 hours unless you actually are somehow able to reapply again after two hours and somehow touch absolutely nothing for a couple hours after that because the second coat will stain any and everything you touch. So overall, I will probably not use again as it's too high maintenance. But if given free I would absolutely use. FYI for value: St. Moritz tanner is like $10 and doesn't stain and dries easier. So I will def go back to that. Loving tan gives the most realistic tan but it's expensive. And Lamakiage is the absolute worst tanner I've ever used. This one from Bondi sands I would rate somewhere in the middle.Heather

I purchased this tan because I was sick of using tans that leave you feeling so sticky and transfer quite a lot after applying. I have been using the loving tan before so thought I would give this a try as it’s more affordable and I liked the fact it had the Aragon Oil in it to moisturise your skin as mines would get quite dry with tan. There is no colour guide when applying this so you sort of have to make sure everything is rubbed in as best you can. After applying I have never in my life felt so sticky! I stood for at least half an hour before dressing and still felt like I was so wet and slippery! I felt absolutely horrible. Also everyone said no transfer? Well my clothes are covered with transfer so if anyone could please tell me what I’ve done wrong. This tan has definitely gave off the worst transfer I have ever had. Don’t get me wrong it is a beautiful sun-kissed colour (that’s after two coats) and doesn’t stink as bad the way other tans do. Also my hands look quite nice. I normally find they’re quite hard to tan and I found this tan didn’t stick to them and leave them patchy. I bought the gradual tanning milk to top it up my body and leave it darker if I desire. If you are after a natural glowy tan then use this one but if you liked being dark and bronzed then the ultra dark one is the best option.Lyndsay

I rarely go without self tanner nowadays, so I had to pull from the archives to get a before photo. But! This is undoubtably the BEST affordable self tanner on the market. Though I am now a whiz at self tanning, this was the product I used for my very first attempt so please know that I am writing from a beginner and veteran’s standpoint. It is user-friendly, blends well, and (most importantly) does not pull orange! The finish is a gorgeous olive tone that cannot be achieved with other more expensive brands. I tried venturing into “higher end” self tanning as I got more comfortable, but I come back to St. Moriz every time. And for reference, I typically let it sit for about 5 hours before washing off and ALWAYS exfoliate before. I also always apply moisturizer to drier areas like my elbows, knees, and ankles beforehand to avoid dark spots.cheramie.w

I absolutely love this fake tan, I have tried alot of what St Moriz has to offer and this one by far wins! It goes on so smoothly, make sure you use a good quality mitt otherwise it wont work as well! (the luxury black glove mitt by st moriz is the one I use and its fantastic!). The tan also dries really fast compared with other tans I have used, once applying a few layers it dries within 5/10 minutes and I can get dressed either for bed or just a day in the house. I tend to leave my tan on either ovenight or for about 4-6 hours during the day and it washes off to a lovely golden shade, just remember to moisturise dry areas like your knees and elbows! I highly reccomend this tan, just make sure you use a good quality mitt & moisturise first! xJune38

I'd used the lotion before so decided to try this… they're VERY different! Initially the spray goes on pretty dark, and it's virtually impossible to get even coverage without assistance. (It also gets everywhere so careful where you use it!) Once on you have to wait 6hrs then shower off with just plain warm water- no soap etc, but you cant even get caught in light rain during that 6hrs because it WILL run and go patchy! The colour does rinse off to a fairly nice shade, but the colour doesn't last as well as the lotion on me. Its not a bad product overall, and it's good vfm, but its not as simple and easy to use as it claims. I'm going to persist with it as I have 3 darned bottles of the stuff now! but that's my bad… The other thing I would say is wear loose dark clothing and undies after application, it will stain during the 6hrs 'curing' time, and I wouldn't try using it before bed either. The slightest hint of perspiration will send it streaky and patchy, and your bed linen will never forgive you! Maybe I just need to get the hang of application a bit more, idk… well I've got 3 bottles, so we'll see! If I had to pick on anything specific though, it is a little tricky finding 6hrs to set aside between application and showering off, but again-maybe thats part of the learning curve, & it does look somewhat alarming when you first spray it on. I'd recommend having several old bath towels, a set of marigold gloves, and an understanding friend or partner to hand! I've used far worse products, but i've used far better too… but at a premium cost. I have to give this some credit for it's very low price.msami5189
