i love this! i have fine 2a hair and bought this to define my waves and condition my dry hair at the same time. i use this on wet/damp hair as a gel and on dry hair to revive my waves and lock my style in place before braiding my hair. it doesn’t leave any crunchiness or residue and it doesn’t weigh my hair down in any way. i think this is a great versatile product that can work on any hair type, although i would be cautious if you have hair that’s prone to being over moisturized because the ingredients are very nourishing. also – i absolutely love the scent! i know all camille rose products come with heavy fragrance and while that may not be some people’s thing, it’s a huge plus for me. i love sweet gourmand fragrances and this is no exception. i anticipate this jar lasting me a very long time but i will definitely repurchase when the time comes!z
So thin curls beware that this is def a heavier product.. but ooweeee i def see a difference when using this! Less hair breakage, more conditioning & actually long lasting curl hold! I mostly do wash n gos so idk how it is for twist outs. Im actually kinda scared because it can weigh my hair down. Another con is that while it does define curls, it will kind of seal it so my thin curls will almost look stringy & see through because its almost like a gel.. if that makes sense. If you have thinner curls i feel like you get me! But i believe this is my 2nd or 3rd purchase of this but it honestly will be my last bcus of the cons. Im more looking for volumizing products that give me the hydration, anti breakage & longevity that this gives! But for thicker hair?? You guys will LOOVEEEE this! I have only used it once so far but I did enjoy using it in conjunction with the Camille Rose Coconut Water Leave in. I let the leave in sink into my hair and just wet it the next day before applying this cream. I think you could use it on the same day you wash but have not tried this way yet as I was looking for a more elongated style and wanted my hair to stretch out more and be more on the damp side when twisting. I would follow the directions though and use on wet or damp to wet hair than on dry hair. I was looking for something to twist my hair and keep it moisturized and more clumped together so it could maintain moisture under my protective styles and was pleased with how long the moisture lasted in my hair and how it helped to reduce frizz. I did undo the twists to see it it would have a lasting hold and I was satisfied. I would like to, down the line, do a twist out with the product for a longer period and see how long the definition would last but the moisture lasted me about 3 days before I felt the need to re moisturize it, not to be confused with washing it over again, but scrunching in a moisturizer to keep my hair from getting dry. I do think using a butter on top would further help maintain moisture like the Camille Rose Brown Butter Melt or to help further control frizz, especially if it's humid, but great moisture and hold for my 4B/4C high porosity coils that honestly need a lot of moisture to keep my coil definition and more importantly moisture in my hair. Really worth the money to me and the best twisting butter I have tried.Faith

I tried this cream a few years ago and didn't really care for it. It was super moisturizing but just didn't have the hold I wanted. To be fair, I used it for a wash n go and NOT a twist out. I only do wash n go's. However, I decided to pick it up again a few days ago while grabbing my usual holy grails (the hair wash, leave in, and mask from this line). This time, I applied the leave in on damp hair and then waited until my hair was about 85% dry before going in with this cream (on a wash n go). OMG the definition and hold! Absolutely amazing! The scent is like blueberries, use wise, there is hold, but a bit too much for me, my hair is thin. So i use it on top of my hair for a clean look, rather than gel, works well. This is one of the best moisturizers I have come by, it leaves my hair shiny, defined, and my curls look healthier than ever! It pairs well with gel or even by itself. I can easily refresh my curls with just this product alone. I use it in damp hair and even on dry hair if I'm just refreshing my ends. It was not as thick as many comments made it out to be, I have 3b/c curls and it works on my hair great! It also can be watered down adding water to it as you apply it. Those using this line should be aware most of these products are made for those with thicker curls/coils. So if you have thinner or wavy hair this may not be the product for you. This product works really well for my type 4, frizzy, high porosity hair. I have a mix of fine and coarse strands, so I wouldn't recommend this to someone with only super fine hair, as it is, as others have noted, thick and somewhat sticky if you don't move fast enough. I've found ways around this by thinning it out with water and covering the jar with the lid when I'm not actively scooping out product to use (it will become sticky and thicken up when exposed to air for too long). Works well for me when I work in small sections, apply it to one section, and immediately twist that section. If you apply it to your whole head at once and think you're going to go back through and easily twist it all, think again! It will become tacky and tangle your hair if left to sit on it without styling. This hasn't been a problem for me when untwisting my hair though. It's too heavy for me to use on wash days, so I stick to lighter products like Melanin' leave-in and butter. But this is my go-to when I refresh/re-moisturize my hair a week later. I lightly dampen my hair, apply a tiny bit of Melanin leave-in, then a layer of this and follow with a layer of grease/oil. Helps smooth down my frizz without my usual need for gel or mousse. The scent is too strong for me, but I like fragrance-free everything, so I can't really weigh in on this aspect. I've never experienced flaking with this; however, I don't use more than a dime size amount on each chunky twist and I always follow it with grease/oil, so one or both of these could be the reason why.Gina
I have 4b, high porosity hair and this product keeps it super moisturized. I use it about 3 times a week, whenever I style my hair and after I wash it. It is the only product I've tried that really does the job. It's great if you have a simple hair care routine but if you like to style your hair a lot, or define your curls with gel it can be kind of unfortunate. It doesn't mix well with gel AT ALL. I struggled with definition and really had to look for a product that defined my curls. I was buying pricey product thinking that it would define my curls but eventually I found out I could save money!! I love mixing this gel with leave in conditioner as another reviewer mentioned. Don’t Shrink is a CGM approved protein gel with olive oil, shea butters, and glycerin. Flax seed really helps my hair retain its curl shape, the large jar helped me explore different styling techniques to see what works best with my hair and the price helped me feel better about re-styling failed experiment days vs conserving pricy product; which let’s face it, there’s a lot of fails in the beginning for curlies lol. I tried it out with super long hair and also with a long bob reset chop and both had consistent results. I achieved really great definition with a hard hold, I still had frizz but I also know this is most likely user error since I’m always improving my routines. I clarify every wash so I’m not one to comment on build up. I really wanted to love it, but I found out mid tub that I prefer shrinkage while I train my curl type. Like many wash and go naturalistas who rock the teeny weeny fro, I have gone through a lot of products trying to find that ONE which does what I need. I have finally found Aunt Jackies and I'm thrilled. It is the holy grail! I have moisturized curls that pop, no dryness or flakiness, and the curls last for DAYS with minimal fuss. For daily maintenance, I just fill a spray bottle with water, jojoba oil and Aunt Jackies leave-in and spritz that mixture to refresh my curls. Best of all, the entire regimen isn't a sticker shock to my wallet yet contains all the good, clean ingredients more pricy natural gels have. The spray function is awful. I thought trading it over to a continuous spray bottle would work. I tried three different bottles and they all sprayed like a jet instead of a mist. Weird. Now I use this in the shower on soaking wet hair or diluted 50/50 in a continuous spray bottle on dry hair for refreshing. Works great this way. For low-porosity hair, it's way too heavy of a product to put on dry hair without diluting it this way.
Wow! This product is like a magic. I just received it today and immediately tried on my yesterday's frizzy curls, and it worked just perfectly even without using all other Cantu products yet. This stuff is amazing! It’s a custard type of product(even though it says cream) so it has a massive hold and it helps weigh my hair down a little which I need for stretched hair. It also leaves my hair really smooth and moisturized. And it smells amazing! You’re probably seen me say that in a lot of my reviews but I can’t help it. A lot of brands have amazing smelling products. Which is great, kudos to them and keep it coming please. My only gripe is that it’s a teeny over the price I normally pay for hair products. I love this gel! It's really good as the final step in my curl routine. I usually do a cream conditioner first, then an oil, and then this gel on top. I will say that if you touch your hair a lot after it's dried, it can get a little flakey – but if you want defined curls or if you want a slicked ponytail/bun look this is really good for keeping your curls slick without frizz or pieces coming out, and keeping in all your other hydrating products. Mielle is the only thing I use on my hair and I wanted to try this out for the first time, I have thick type 4 hair and this stuff is my new holy grail I did a braids out, this thing is THICKKK, held it upside down and the thickness held itself in the jar. smells like heaven itself, my coils are soft, soooo defined and lasted until my next wash day (a week an a half). I was excited to try this product but it wasn't what I was hoping for my hair. The container it is in is cute. I smelled it and the scent was ok . I thought it would be overwhelming but it wasn't. I can't handle loud scents so I was concerned. I liked the thickness of the cream. They work on my hair better. I washed my hair and used my usual leave in conditioner and then followed with this twisting cream and then the dry mist oil. My hair felt soft and moisturized. I was excited but a couple days later my roots were dry. Usually when I use my other products my hair still has moisture. The length of my hair still had moisture but my roots for some reason didn't. So I reapplied and I had to put quite a bit of the product. If I wanted to do mini twist as a protective style with this I wouldn't be able to keep them in because I would have to take them down to reapply this twisting cream in a day or two. I really wanted to like this but it's not enough moisture for my hair.Lucylulu
I love everything about this product. The smell, the texture, the packaging, it's all great. I used this product to give my daughter a twist out. I don't do the best twist outs, as the curls are not often tight and don't look defined, but with this product that changed. I washed my daughters hair, used the LOC method to moisturize, and then added this twisting cream as I was styling. The finished product was beautiful. The curls were tight. There was no frizz. So I'm overjoyed to get to try this product. I've heard about it online and hadn't seen it in the store. The cream is super moisturizing but doesn't weigh hair down. I have noticed the scent is very strong but not bad. It gives the hair a fragrance that lasts for days. That's a huge plus. My hair felt moisturized for at least 5 days after my initial application. This is hands down the best curly hair gel on the market. I use 2-3 pumps for my whole head and scrunch it in after applying a leave in conditioner to very wet hair. It starts by drying hard but then as the day goes on, your hair looks and feels so soft and the curls are still in place. If i’m looking for a stronger hold because of a slick-back ponytail or something, I usually opt for a stronger gel like Not Your Mother’s. I branched out a year ago to try new products for my wavy hair and I stumbled on this one. I wasn’t sure at first because it’s a weird texture. Kinda like a watery gel. I wasn’t 100% sure it would help my hair. Omg. I was so wrong to be skeptical. This stuff is in my everyday hair arsenal. I scrunch this into my wet hair after a shower. Sometimes it’s all I use and it leaves my hair soft and gently defined. If I want stronger definition, I add in Marc Anthony’s curly mousse right after this and scrunch it in with a t-shirt then let air dry. Feels just like snot!! And gets the job DONE! So just so that you know, I’m a lazy 4C natural. Meaning I do bare minimum to maintain a few strands of hair on my non-chemically treated hair. I literally do not use styling products, partially out of laziness but even more so out of fear of breakage and dryness etc. I took a chance, and for the first tome in years, I tried a styling product, and this was it. It’s a gel with the exact consistency of snot. First wash your hair, condition, leave in condition or whatever, and then while your hair is still soaking wet, apply a GENEROUS amount. Finger detangle/shingle/whatever you to that usually gets a little more definition in your hair and boom. Soft not crunchy curls. Such an amazing hold without feeling like your hair is going to fall out. No flaking. this product works great for dry curly/coily hair it moisterizes, helps with the frizz and it keeps the hair very soft and manageable. good consistency and just thick enough to feel like a leave-in cream instead of the usual spray. I have 3B curls, processed hair that I highlight and color purple. I’m a hairstylist, so I take care of my curls. I love this product line, but unfortunately, the double butter does not go well with my hair. The leave in conditioner is superior for my hair type for moisturizing. The double butter gives my hair a course feel. It is too thick. I have to add coconut oil or some other moisturizer to get a softer feel. My hair type is bushy curly….tri-racial mixed. This product is great! It truly moisturizes. I use it with their leave in and their gel which I sparingly use. The double butter alone defines your curls but when you use it with their leaving in conditioner, my 3b-3c hair is very nice defined, moisturized, and bouncy I Don't even need the gel. WHICH I LOVE! This butter will save your hair!!! It makes my hair so soft, especially when my hair was color treated. I used if for braid outs and protective styles and I never had to moisturize in between uses. I don't quite remember exactly how I stumbled across this product. but i started using it about a little less than a year ago and i've been hooked ever since. over the past 5-6 years i've been natural, i've had such a hard time finding a gel that has great hold and doesn't flake or leave a lot of build up. this product checks off everything on my list. i know it's purpose is for twist outs, but i just use it to define my curls and it does just that. i love the watery consistency of it (which usually doesn't work out well for me) it's nice bc i won't have to re-wet my hair if i'm trying to do a touch up. highly recommend this product for those with similar hair type as mine, as well as those seeking for increased definition!Jazzy Girl
It was okay the first day i had it in. for reference i have curly hair and usually don’t redo my products until about two days after the first use. the second day with this gel my hair was dry and brittle. it’s definitely not as moisturizing as i thought it would be. definition was good but it’s probably a one day use product.Miranda W.
I never knew my braids could be so soft and moisturized! And they didn't get browsy. And my braid out has been defined for days! Not nearly as sticky as people were saying it was. And my braids dried in 1 day and I never had any stickness or flaking. You can't see the gold glitter in your hair, which I guess is a good thing. I didn't end up using a whole lot either. Absolutely would reccomend, it was worth the hype.

I bought Kevin Murphy products by suggestion of my stylist. I got the Smooth shampoo and conditioner. This is some of the worst shampoo and conditioner I've ever used. Herbal Essence smooths my hair more than these products! The shampoo and conditioner are so harsh are my curly hair, it is left dry and brittle after each time I've used it. My scalp is always itchy also. I use a wet brush in the shower to comb through the conditioner and detangle my hair, but it is a work out with this conditioner. There is no slip. After my hair dries it ends up severely tangled, knotted, and deprived of moisture. Not only are the products poor quality but the packaging is terrible. It's really hard to pop open the caps. I have had to unscrew the lids off every time to get product out. You also can't squeeze them much so that makes it difficult to use all of the product in the bottle as well. Lastly, the smell isn't very nice either. It's tolerable, but not preferable. I wish I could say there was anything redeeming about these products, especially since they were so expensive, but unfortunately these are a huge miss and I can't imagine why any salon is carrying them.Shannon

I have very dry, very fine, thinning hair (thanks menopause!). I diluted product a little with distilled water and it works perfectly. It defines my curly and waves without weighing them down. Also really helps keep the frizz at bay even in this southern humidity. As an added bonus, the scent is heavenly!! I've had multiple people comment "wow, your hair smells so good, what are you using?" . I have several different curl patterns and I use this on the sides and front sections of my hair. I like the product, but I don't like the sprayer. I think it's cumbersome to use. I use this product with a curling gel to get the desired curl that I want. The sides of my hair are more resistant to curling and I need Twist & Set, foam, and a gel to get it just the way I like it. I don't use this all over, because it doesn't work as well on all sections of my hair. I am comfortable using different product types on my hair to get the desired result. Seemed like a good idea to have a combination creme and gel product when I picked this up, but my hair just didn't agree with it at all. Even when I tried to follow the directions to "seal" the ends of my curls with the product, the result was just bleh. My hair had a dried out feel to it and it got incredibly tangled with this product in it. My hair is somewhere between a 2C and 3A for curls, so maybe it just wasn't curly enough for this product to work, but I wouldn't recommend it.knk1
I have tried a million products for my curls trying to find one that does as much as possible for as low a price point as possible – I need look no further! For context, I have a variety of curl types on my head (2C at the back, 3B at the front, and everything in between), medium thickness, low-porosity/virgin hair which is cut very short and this stuff works beautifully for me. It has enough hold to define my curls and eliminate frizz but it's lightweight enough to not pull my ringlets into waves, and enough moisture to look after them for a long time – I used to wash my hair every other day because it would get frizzy, now I can go over a week sometimes and it still looks good! It does need to be applied to almost-dripping-wet hair, and it does form a cast which I know some people don't like because of the crunchy feeling but I promise you that all you gotta do is scrunch it out when it's dry and then it'll look great. I usually use my fingers to apply it evenly all over my head when my hair is still wet, then scrunch and squish the hair from the tip towards the root to further distribute the product and bring back the curls. I then dry my hair with a diffuser until it is mostly dry, then I let it air dry the rest of the way. Only when it is COMPLETELY DRY do I scrunch out the cast – I'm then left with soft, bouncy and defined curls! It took a bit of trial and error to get the amount of product required right – if you don't use enough you'll get frizz but if you use too much it can leave you looking a bit greasy – but it's so affordable it's worth the trial! Oh also, the scent is amazing and does linger for a little while which is so nice – if you don't like coconut though, this may not be for you. I'd highly recommend giving this a go though if you're styling curls on a budget.Lillk001
