Flax seed really helps my hair retain its curl shape, the large jar helped me explore different styling techniques to see what works best with my hair and the price helped me feel better about re-styling failed experiment days vs conserving pricy product; which let’s face it, there’s a lot of fails in the beginning for curlies lol. I tried it out with super long hair and also with a long bob reset chop and both had consistent results. I am so happy that I decided to try this brand! I use this in combination with the moisturizing cream. As the instructions say, I apply the moisturizing cream and then go over my hair with the light hold gel. Once I'm out of the shower, I'll go over any missed spots and finger curl with a small about of the gel. A little goes a long way on the gel. I love this gel! It's really good as the final step in my curl routine. I usually do a cream conditioner first, then an oil, and then this gel on top. I will say that if you touch your hair a lot after it's dried, it can get a little flakey – but if you want defined curls or if you want a slicked ponytail/bun look this is really good for keeping your curls slick without frizz or pieces coming out, and keeping in all your other hydrating products. This stuff is AMAZING on locks. My man has very coarse hair and natrual hair! So it will most likely work on both loose and tight curls. We have been using Mango twist. I never knew my braids could be so soft and moisturized! And they didn't get browsy. And my braid out has been defined for days! Not nearly as sticky as people were saying it was. And my braids dried in 1 day and I never had any stickness or flaking. You can't see the gold glitter in your hair, which I guess is a good thing. I didn't end up using a whole lot either. I am so deeply disappointed with this product that I felt compelled to write this review. First, I would like to say that I love Aveda products and really enjoy some of the products from the Nutriplenish line. I purchased this product because I use the Nutriplenish conditioner regularly and previously used the leave-in conditioner from the same line. I like the leave-in conditioner, but I find the spray-bottle mechanism to be wasteful and the product leaves my hair slightly crunchy until brushed out thoroughly. Overall, I wanted something that was easier to apply and more moisturizing. I contemplated buying Damage Remedy Daily Hair Repair given that it is on the best seller list but decided to go with this product instead because I am more familiar with the Nutriplenish line and love how it smells. Well, that was a mistake. I don't find this product to be moisturizing at all. My ends remain dry, the product does not add any luster or shine as other Aveda products do, it flattens my natural waves/curls, and it has become increasingly difficult to run my fingers through my hair. To my last point, I own a horse and my hair feels as dry and resistant as his tail does after using this product. For the price of this product, my hair should not feel like a horse's tail. I hate to be so critical, but there is no other way to describe my experience. This product is simply horrendous. I will continue to buy other Aveda products but will be more mindful that products like this exist amongst the different lines that the company offers. This hair gel is INCREDIBLE for my fine, frizzy 3B curls. It leaves my curls shiny, well defined, frizz free, and crunch free! They are bouncy and beautiful every time. Seemed like a good idea to have a combination creme and gel product when I picked this up, but my hair just didn't agree with it at all. Even when I tried to follow the directions to "seal" the ends of my curls with the product, the result was just bleh. My hair had a dried out feel to it and it got incredibly tangled with this product in it. My hair is somewhere between a 2C and 3A for curls, so maybe it just wasn't curly enough for this product to work, but I wouldn't recommend it.knk1
I have tried a million products for my curls trying to find one that does as much as possible for as low a price point as possible – I need look no further! For context, I have a variety of curl types on my head (2C at the back, 3B at the front, and everything in between), medium thickness, low-porosity/virgin hair which is cut very short and this stuff works beautifully for me. It has enough hold to define my curls and eliminate frizz but it's lightweight enough to not pull my ringlets into waves, and enough moisture to look after them for a long time – I used to wash my hair every other day because it would get frizzy, now I can go over a week sometimes and it still looks good! It does need to be applied to almost-dripping-wet hair, and it does form a cast which I know some people don't like because of the crunchy feeling but I promise you that all you gotta do is scrunch it out when it's dry and then it'll look great. I usually use my fingers to apply it evenly all over my head when my hair is still wet, then scrunch and squish the hair from the tip towards the root to further distribute the product and bring back the curls. I then dry my hair with a diffuser until it is mostly dry, then I let it air dry the rest of the way. Only when it is COMPLETELY DRY do I scrunch out the cast – I'm then left with soft, bouncy and defined curls! It took a bit of trial and error to get the amount of product required right – if you don't use enough you'll get frizz but if you use too much it can leave you looking a bit greasy – but it's so affordable it's worth the trial! Oh also, the scent is amazing and does linger for a little while which is so nice – if you don't like coconut though, this may not be for you. I've tried numerous products from various manufacturers, low-end and high-end, and haven't been able to find anything to hold my curls in place without them frizzing. Totally Twisted Curl Boosting Hair Mouse is just the right mix of hold and lightweight styling without feeling sticky or hard in my hair. I had to laugh this morning, though, because the instructions on the bottle say to style your hair until you reach "imperfection." I absolutely loved this product's scent. It surrounded me with berries! Ok, I guess that's a little superficial. But even the bottle says "revel in lush aromas" and they couldn't be more right. Scent aside, I was very pleasantly surprised that I only had to use a small amount to get a full head of rich and luxurious lather, and I have a lot of long, thick hair. I didn't have to wash it twice, either. The bottle doesn't advise to "repeat" like most shampoos and I honestly don't think it's necessary to do so; I didn't and I've ALWAYS washed mine twice, to make sure it's clean because it's so thick. There have even been times I've had to wash it three times! I also appreciate all the "free" stuff about the product: cruelty free, mineral oil free, paraben free, and leaves your hair frizz free. Comes in a recyclable package too! I couldn't quite wrap my head around using shampoo for body wash though, so I can't really say if it worked well in that respect. I used this gel for years because my natural hair is wavy/curly, and simply doesn’t know what to without some form of instruction. Now I’ve started using it again and just had to rave about it! All I have to do is run the gel through my hair and then apply more gel when scrunching my hair to get evenly sized, natural curls. This process takes FAR less time than finger coiling or using a denman brush. As with any product, I would recommend giving your hair a break every now and then, and having a shampoo on hand that you are confident will prevent buildup. I really like this gel to be honest. It’s the first I’ve used that doesn’t give a lot of buildup, doesn’t flake, doesn’t leave your hair feeling like hardened bread (unlike most actually) and most importantly, Leaves your hair looking naturally and effortlessly styled!. I love this product. It works very well for my twists outs. I have used it when my hair was wet right after a wash and after it was dry. This is hands down the best curly hair gel on the market. I use 2-3 pumps for my whole head and scrunch it in after applying a leave in conditioner to very wet hair. It starts by drying hard but then as the day goes on, your hair looks and feels so soft and the curls are still in place. If i’m looking for a stronger hold because of a slick-back ponytail or something, I usually opt for a stronger gel like Not Your Mother’s. If I want stronger definition, I add in Marc Anthony’s curly mousse right after this and scrunch it in with a t-shirt then let air dry. Feels just like snot!! And gets the job DONE! So just so that you know, I’m a lazy 4C natural. Meaning I do bare minimum to maintain a few strands of hair on my non-chemically treated hair. I literally do not use styling products, partially out of laziness but even more so out of fear of breakage and dryness etc. I took a chance, and for the first tome in years, I tried a styling product, and this was it. It’s a gel with the exact consistency of snot. First wash your hair, condition, leave in condition or whatever, and then while your hair is still soaking wet, apply a GENEROUS amount. Finger detangle/shingle/whatever you to that usually gets a little more definition in your hair and boom. Soft not crunchy curls. Such an amazing hold without feeling like your hair is going to fall out. No flaking. When I tell you I’m the perfect guinea pig for stuff like this because I am truly so prone to messing stuff up..GIRL. Listen to me. The Hold me down gelle is my go to styler for my wash and go styles. I have 3C/4A high porosity color-treated fine strand dense curly hair (whew!) and this styler gives me the elongation hold and definition for 5 days with minimal touch ups. My hair gets more voluminous each day while maintaining its definition which I love! Day 4 is my favorite because it’s the perfect happy medium for volume and definition for me. Hi I don't normally write reviews but when something is as good as this gel there needs to be recognition. I was gifted this gel about 4 months ago it didn't really appeal to me but I was in a rush to get to work after washing my hair and couldn't find my regular gel. Long story short, I use the gel last minute on soaking wet hair and no leave in conditioner (I'm 100% natural 4c by the way) and to my surprise not only was my hair moisturized and soft but lasted 4 days straight without reapplying. I am shocked and amazed. I wish I can give more than 5 stars.🤩
I stumbled across the Green Apple & Aloe Miracle Hold Gel online, while searching for a replacement for the Passion Fruit Curl Control product I had used for years. It was getting hard to find and stores would only have 1 or 2 on the shelves or none at all. It also seemed to make my hair come out, but it was the best I could find but began to use it less and less, and just wore wigs. When I saw the Taliah Waajid line, I was pleasantly surprised and ordered it. I liked the "No parabens, sulfates, phthalates silicon, synthetic dyes, mineral oil, animal use, alcohol, gluten or GMO" in the description. I also liked the oils it used: Castor oil, aloe vera, olive fruit and nut oils and vitamins which were in its ingredients list. Well, the result is 5 stars for my 4c very hard to hold hair!!! Past products caked or hardened, and most of all, broke off my hair and mid day, flyaways sprang up and the product melted down my face. This gel is hands down the best one ever. I feel confident I won't look weird at the end of the day, and it STAYS FLAT ALL DAY!!! Thank you!

This product works really well if you want a gel with a strong hold! Its affordable and best if you want to get rid of fly aways for a nice sleek look. All you have to do is apply the gel to damp hair, brush the fly aways (go over it a couple times if you have thick hair), and then wrap a satin scarf around your hair for a bit. After this is done your hair will be nicely laid. It also works well for a range of curly/kinky hair types from 3a-4c and more. The only critique that I have is that it doesn't shine as much and for certain hairstyles, I want a nice shiny sleek look. What I usually do to compromise this is I'd use this gel for my edges and then the eco styler gel in the black container for my whole head to get the shine, sometimes I combine the two.halima.k
I think the Krystal gel is the best Eco Styler gel because it doesn’t flake or make your hair crunchy. This gel does provide curl definition however, I’m sure there are other products that will make my curls more defined. One of my complaints is that this gel provides no slip so it’s not a smooth process when you apply it to your hair. My other complaint is that it says it has “maximum hold” for all hair types but that is not true. I have mainly type 4a hair and this gel doesn’t hold or keep my hair in place very well. Overall, it’s a pretty decent product and I still use it for wash and go’s.victoria.t

Living in a humid area with large starter locs in fine 4c hair, it's been hard to find something that holds my retwists for more than a day or so. Lock It Up is the first I've bought that does last a bit longer than other brands I've tried. But I think I need something a little bit stronger. This is the best product for locks. I have tried bees wax and other product for locks but it does not hold as well and the product buildup with these product is visible. Tight Hold does not leave residue visible product. I highly recommend this product for locked hair. Also, it helps to wash your hair first and then apply Tight Hold.Gary B.
I have searched everywhere for a product like this!! I’ve been loc’d for about 5 months now & nothing held my hair!! I mean nothing some would last an hour most never went past a day!! But this!!? It’s been 5 days already & I still have A LOT OF HOLD!!! I love this so much! I plan on getting the huge jar when I run out. I used it on dry hair left a little white residue which I just scraped away after but next time I’ll use it on wet hair & see it it makes a difference either way I’m so happy!! Thank you so much TW!!

I really like this gel! It pairs well with the Pillow Soft Curls cream. The bottle says that there is no crunch, but there is, which I don’t mind. I just take some oil and scrunch out the crunch. I usually use this to refresh my curls. I put a nickel size amount in my hands, rub together and quickly run my hands under a little water to emulsify it and then run it through my curls. I continue until I feel all my curls are touched up. Works great!sary.b
I read all of the positive reviews so I was really excited to try. I have 3a/3b curly hair with frizz so I thought it would work This product promised MAJOR definition but all it did was turn my curls into fluff. So not only did it not give me definition, but it literally transformed my curls into more frizz. I had to wash my hair to get all of this out. The product is also very light. There really isn’t any hold at all. I thought I’d at-least see a little bit of results but it literally just ruined my hair. This is the ONLY product that will curl my 4C hair and last curled for 2 weeks (If I sleep it satin cap) and NOT FLAKE. ALL the other products, except one, flakes in my hair. And trust me they all flake. The only other one that doesn't flake curl doesn't hold more than a day or two. The curls hold with this and its not hard, crunchy, white cast or flaky. I just put it on my soaking wet hair with oil as a base, and pull this through with my fingers or denman brush. Popping curls, in place for 2 weeks. to refresh I just mist with water and pull my fingers through again. Its also good for my twists. people think I have them done by a stylist, but nope, just me and Miss Jessie! I hope they never stop making it!happy98
