Best Vacuum Cleaner For Carpet And Wood Floors (2024 Update)

I bought this Oreck XL Commercial floor sweeper as a brand-new backup unit for an existing Oreck Xl home vac that I bought back in the 1990's. The original one still works just fine and the only maintenance it has ever required, other than bag changes, was a single drive belt replacement. The Oreck XL is a workhorse floor/carpet sweeper! And, the best part is that I recently got this brand-new one for $200, which is less than half of the price I paid for my original Oreck XL, back in the 1990's. The Oreck XL Commercial vacuum is light in weight (8 pounds). The low profile makes it incredibly easy to slide underneath a bed (you can even store it under there, between uses). It has a very comfortable ergonomically-designed handle with readily accessible on/off control switch. Each vacuum bag is top-loading and holds an incredible amount of debris. The filter bag is easy to change, is reasonably priced, and prevents any sneeze-producing dust from ever escaping the vac during use.vintage-connections

5/15/19 I did a lot of research before I chose to get one of these. I found out that the motor is only a 4 amp motor and I wondered if that was going to be powerful enough to do a good job. (I knew the motor was very long lasting.). I figured that because the discharge bag downstream of the motor was so much larger then comprable vacuums, that there would not be much back pressure on the motor and so by design, you probably don't need such a powerful motor. I also figured, that if you design a vacuum cleaner right, why would you need a 10 11 12 amp motor? I like the fact that it had a good quality cord that you didn't have to bend over to wrap the cord up it had a big bag so you didn't have to constantly buy bags did it was durable, because it is what janitors use and hotels across the country. I also know that my carpet was not a shag carpet it was a lower carpet and it was a hardwood floor. So I figured I would buy it from Walmart and try it and if I don't like it I can get my money back. WOW!!! I am so impressed with this machine! It picks up like you would not believe everything and I love the fact that you don't need a motor that is so powerful it belongs on a saw to cut wood. I love not having all these gadget cheap accessories that falling off all the time. I love being able to get underneath stuff. I love the lightweight. I love the switch on the handle in case I suck up a sock or shoelace. so that I can shut the motor off before I burn up a belt. I love the fact there's a spare belt underneath. I love the heavy-duty cushioning around the motor housing. And I really like the way the brushes are set up the beater bars very well-designed very simple very rugged very durable. (I believe in keep it simple KISS.)! So what if it's a tad noisy. And the negative review the guy posted about not being able to get us handle tight……well…… Some people are just not the least bit mechanically inclined. I like it better than my Bissell, KenmoreJay

Our Princess vacuum just died. We have always had problems finding bags for it anyway… We received a used Oreck as a gift many years ago and it still runs and cleans super. I received this vacuum for Christmas, and have been using it daily for about three months now. I really wanted to love this vacuum, but I don't. The main issue I have is with the self-cleaning brushroll: Sure it doesn't tangle, but that would require it to actually pick up fur in the first place. This vacuum adamantly refuses to pick up any fur that isn't just sitting loose on the surface of the rug…which is deeply unhelpful. The roll just wipes fur along, without doing anything to agitate the carpet. I have used the entire battery life of this vacuum on my single living room area rug, just to still need to use my rubber broom. For a vacuum that costs >$300, this is extremely disappointing, and considering the vacuum is called the "pet pro," I truly don't understand why this vacuum simply cannot handle fur in any regard. My second problem with this vacuum is that it leaks dust from every single joint and seam the entire time I'm using it. Who wants to be covered in dust from vacuuming? Not I. Additionally, the wand itself clogs constantly in a way that's very difficult to clean out. In fact, most of this vacuum is difficult to clean, outside of changing the filters. I have two cats and a lab mix who sheds like it's his mission on earth, and frankly, this vacuum just does not cut it.LindseyJoy

I've never made a purchase that I've been more disappointed in. The vacuum worked fine the first couple of times now every time is vacuum my house I have to unclog the machine from the many many many potential clog spots. I never once had this problem with our previous dyson vacuum. I have a golden retriever, so yes, having to maybe unload the vacuum is to be expected however for a product that supposedly specializes in pets, it does a TERRIBLE job. I've had to take apart the base of the bottom when that gets clogged, the shaft of the vacuum comes apart and now hair seems to get clogged making the base of the vacuum essentially worthless. I am so so so bummed and wish I would have returned this while I had the chance. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS PRODUCT IF YOU WANT A PRODUCT THAT ACTUALLY PICKS UP DOG HAIR.Megan

I absolutely love that it is cordless. I loved the black friday price… i think it was $159 or $179 something like that . WAY under the price for a dyson. I absolutely love it. I have 2 dogs and 1 cat all whom shed ALOT. I use this vacuum daily, several times a day and have not had any issue with the battery. Keep in mind i mentioned having a little zoo of animals, so the first month i had to take the machine apart to be able to remove clogged hair on the long stick. The instructions dont really tell you how to clean it. There is more than just emptying the basket. To avoid it getting clogged, i now try to blow out all the hair in the tubes Atleast once a week. Only negative i would mention is I wish it was a bit stronger and wish it gave an option on height. For example if there is a leaf on the floor it will not suck it in becase the vacuum in not high off the ground to pick it up. I believe the dyson is a tad stronger but its not worth paying $400, when i can just use this one for under $200. I do not regret purchasing this at all. This little wonder is basically a hand held vac with a handle. But don't let the small size fool you. Performs better than my canister vac. I bought this to clean up kitty litter my cat tracks everywhere. I had been using a Dirt Devil (similar small vacuum) but as not pleased with its performance. So far, I prefer this one. This little guy is super awesome and makes clean up super fast and easy, just what I was looking for as with having osteoarthritis I can't always sweep my wood floors, this even vacuums small rugs in the bathroom that are thick and shaggy. Not a carpet vac but it does clean bare floors and scatter rugs. Doesn't suck the rugs up like a really powerful vac does. No brush roll but nothing for long hair to get tangled in, either. More powerful than a cordless vac and the cord is long enough.margaretw465

I received this product for free in exchange for my honest review from #bzzagent. The Bissell Poweredge vacuum was easy to put together out of the box. The suction power is good and I like the accessories it comes with. I was really disappointed that this vacuum does not have an LED light! For over $200.00 you would assume it would. That feature alone would not make me want to purchase this. Also I don't like the fact you have to mount the vacuum to the wall to store it. It should have the option to fold in half. This Bissell PowerEdge Cordless Vacuum is amazingly very satisfying to use! It has never fail me every time I use it. It cleans up really good, has a great suction and it also gets the edges well. It's lightweight and super easy to maneuver. We have two dogs that sheds a lot and small kids so we have an endless clutter. I had put off purchasing a cordless vacuum after using a couple big name / expensive cordless vacuums. But I read the reviews and decided to order this one. I wasn't completely sold until I used it and I was pleasantly surprised by the power, the size of the dust cup, attachments, how quiet it is, movability of the swivel head and the overall great job it did!!! I have a medium/small house composed entirely of low pile carpet and hard tile. The biggest reason I went for this vacuum was the improved suction on hard surfaces, as I had a cheaper vacuum that would simply scatter dirt around. It definitely cleans both surfaces very thoroughly and makes cleaning the tile so much easier. I was also surprised at how quiet it is, not as loud as my old canister Bissel, even at maximum suction. One complaint I have is that the head can be difficult to push on carpet, I think it would be much easier with some wheels on the head.Max

All the good reviews are so TRUE. After many low quality vacs like the Dyson, etc, I finally got wise and bought a Miele. My first one I bought over 5 years ago and is still going strong like day 1. I bought a second one a few months ago (I'm a clean freak) and this one is equally fantastic. You just cannot beat Miele quality. I call her "Mia" because she's cute and follows you around like a little puppy. This baby could suck the grout out from between your tiles so you won't EVER worry about having enough suction. I've been using this vacuum for a few weeks and I don't have a single complaint yet. I really love how it was designed. It is very sturdy, yet light enough to easily maneuver around the house and over any type of floor surface. The vacuum head swivels effortlessly and intuitively. I especially love the headlight feature which really helps with picking up things in small crevices and under furniture. I have a large long-haired dog and this vacuum picks up the hair without any issues! The battery is very compact; the charger takes up no more space than my single-serve coffee maker as shown in the photo. Charging only takes a few hours and delivers ample runtime for me to vacuum all three floors of my house. The dust/waste bin is easy to empty and clean. Also, the extra two nozzle heads come with a holder than conveniently & cleverly snaps onto the neck of the vacuum handle, so you always have what you need to get the job done! Had this vacuum for roughly 18 to 24 months, has worked pretty flawlessly up until I dealt with the dreaded brush head issue I read others similarly having, after a search of google and Craftsman and finding zero real solutions, I DID NOT spend $200 on a "throw away and buy new" appliance, that simply isn't the United States I grew up in. Anyway, after a week of the head turning on only to shut down after 2 or 3 seconds, I started my disassembly quest by removing the head assembly and looking at the bottom, where I found a red tab with arrows pointing up. I then held said tab with one finger while prying the brush head out with a flat head screwdriver. I clean the brush head. We then see a red gear at the end with a tiny screw holding it, take your tiny phillips head scredriver and remove screw. Gear will be reluctant but wiggle it on out with small pliers or maybe flat screwdriver. THAT was where my problem lied as 18 months of tiny carpet fibers had gotten in there to cause enough friction to stop brush head. Remove the foreign matter and (optionally) apply just a drop of 3 in 1 onto the metal surface. Reverse to reassemble and you may have just saved some aggravation dealing with a silly warranty process or quite possibly some money. SBD Craftsman should be paying me for all the ambassador work I do for them as a DIY nobody, I tell ya hwut. Only problem I'm presently having is the weak "standing" mechanism when the vac isn't being used, it can stand on its own for an hour or so before it wants to lean either way and inevitably falls to the side. It is closet kept where I lean it up against the wall so it's not as big of a deal to me. But can be aggravating between breaks. Would definitely reccomend!! Just don't buy from Lowe's, shopping Amazon or Ace comes with ALOT more dignity in supporting an actual hardware store, Thank you.Kazi9

I've been using this stick vac every day for over a week and that's about 6 times more than I used my traditional corded vacuum. The convenience of not being limited by the length of a cord and wall outlet availability makes it a game changer for me. The motor is strong and cleans as well as my 110v corded vac, but with less noise. The ability to disable the brush makes cleaning tile/wood floors a completely different experience. The 3 power settings are perfectly located to cycle between with your thumb so that you don't suck up a floor mat when transitioning from wood/tile to rug/mat. The ability to detach the motor from the stick and use the brush head in a stubby fashion makes cleaning carpeted stairs unbelievably easier than my traditional stick vac. I have used the shorty to clean the couches and used the adapters to clean under the cushions. With the stick attached to the broom head I can reach under furniture much farther than my old stick vacuum, the LED lights also help find all your kids toys that were lost before sucking them up. The vacuum is very low profile and almost lays down flat so you don't have to move furniture around to clean. Very nice and time saving! The broom head pans from side to side while using the vacuum and I found this to be annoying when trying to go fast. I discovered a way to lock the head and am able to maneuver the vacuum more aggressively without the head flopping around. Craftsman should address that in future revisions of the vacuum, I could see someone making a kit as an "upgrade" and selling those… The wheels on the broom head are nice, but I've found them to be a little lacking when it comes to maneuverability. If the wheels were replaced with ball casters then you would have infinite movement in your X and Y axis and could slide the vacuum in any direction to reach around obstructions. I hope this is something that Craftsman would consider for future releases. The battery life is short lived with the included 2 Ah battery, but enough for me to complete about 1,500 sqf. With an additional battery or (4 Ah) you can accomplish more work. I found myself trying to race the battery to get the cleaning done, which opened my eyes to the swiveling head and rigid wheels. Cleaning is easy. Pull the container, push a button (over a garbage can) and empty the contents. The twisty knob agitator cleans fine particles from the filter (much better than banging it on the garbage can or your other hand). I wish there was a vacuum float gauge you could monitor to quickly determine the health of your filter. I've seen welding helmets with clear tubes filled with small plastic balls and graduations on the tube that let you see air flow. This would make replacing the filter more accurate than just throwing it away and buying a new one every 6 months. I really enjoy using this vacuum and find myself looking for reasons to use it. We've got a couple large area rugs on otherwise all terrazzo floors. Recently adopted a short double coated Aussie Shepherd Beagle mix that has now begun shedding. This vacuum works great for our situation, the smaller head being easy to maneuver around and under tables and recliners. Intermittent use up to 30min for the rugs does cause the vacuum head to get pretty hot, not where you hold it, but to the exhaust side. Being corded delivers plenty of suction power without the added battery weight of a similarly capable cordless vac. I agree with others that upright storage could have been better executed. I'd suggest Shark include some kind of wall mount to hang it up when not in use. Overall happy with the product, although the price point around $200 on sale with coupon still seems a bit high in my opinion.Kent

1 person, 1 cat household. The vacuum has good suction BUT the cat hair gets stuck around a small metal peice and doesn't make it to the bin. If you have more than 1 pet – this is NOT the best unit. 1 room = empyting the bin and removing the hair from around the metal piece. It also cannot stand alone which is highly annoying. I don't want to take the motor off and attach it to the stick so that it will be self standing. DUMB design. It gets HOTTER than a Texas summer day very quickly. You cannot find the accessories listed in the maintaince booklet online. I guess they don't exist. You can find replacement filers. This vacuum is best as a quick, pick-me up unit — not your only vacuum.Zaney

This is more of an electric broom than a vacuum cleaner. It does a great job getting under furniture and cleans well on both carpet and bare floor. I have 2 dogs so I was trying to get to hard to reach areas. It does that well with the attachments included but I wish it had a brush. However, it’s made for small areas because it needs to be emptied often (easily) because it’s quite small. It also overheated after about 30 minutes of what I guess was too much work for it. Waiting an hour to turn it back on is a bummer. It’s a bit awkward to use as the handheld part at the top is heavy. As a result it won’t stand up on it’s own. You have to lay it down. It has it’s uses but doesn’t replace my old Shark. It’s much smaller and not much lighter.Mary

I have always wanted to own a cordless vacuum and now this Black and Decker Power Series Extreme cordless stick vacuum is making my life so easy. I like the fact that it’s lightweight and easy to handle. I can easily carry it around my house with least effort. Being cordless I no more have to struggle with wires. The dustbin is removable and can easily be emptied. The handle can be detached from the brush of you just need to use the stick to clean the corners or crevices. The anti tangle brush bar is something I am happy about. The vacuum is powerful and sucks dust and dirt very well. Great for both hardwood floors and also carpet. The LED light is the best feature especially when the places are poorly lit the LED light helps in cleaning up the spots and makes my house more clean. The battery holds good for about one hour. And I own several black and decker lawn tools so I mix and match my batteries and that’s really a plus point. Definitely is much less noisy compared to other vacuums. The accessories given with this vacuum are very good and love the fact that I can hang it in my tools closet after using it. This cordless stick vacuum is great for cleaning stairs. It’s easy to twist and turn the agitator to empty the dust and dirt. I can easily charge the batteries too. All the functions are exceptional and I am so impressed with this!Kiomina

I've had a lot of bad luck with cordless vacuums in my life. They generally lack enough power to accomplish anything you'd want them to. The POWERSERIES Extreme Cordless Stick Vacuum, however, has not left me feeling disappointed! I have a mixture of hard floor, low pile carpet, and medium pile carpet throughout my house. The high pile carpet does not benefit much from this cordless vacuum, but for spot cleaning the short pile carpet, this thing can do the trick if I put it on "MAX" speed (although it's a bit loud at that level). But where this thing really shines for me is on hard floor. Even on the lowest speed, it hasn't had any problems picking debris up off my hard flooring. The biggest highlight was when I discovered that it fits beneath my couch!! The couch only has a 3-inch clearance, so it becomes a black hole that gathers all kinds of junk: leaves, dust, dog hair, dropped food, etc… To clean under there, I've always had to lift up the couch and move it out of the way. But this cordless vacuum allows me to clean underneath it completely, without moving the couch at all!! Talk about a win! It also has some handy features, which I'll list off below. POWERSERIES+™ Cordless Stick Vacuum We were looking for an affordable all-in-one vacuum that can be used on carpet and hard floors, lightweight, high suction power, cordless, easy to hold & clean, long-lasting warranty. Many criteria, isn't it? When I received this cordless stick vacuum, I first used that on a carpet, and you can't believe it sucked up so much dust from the cleaned carpet! I couldn't believe it and tried to use that in a different room and after using it I realized that the one I was using earlier was the heaviest & noisy and did not capture the microparticles which this little gem did on the very first use. The stick has a powerful light to see if the area is dirty and it automatically adjust the speed on the carpet and hard floor. Also, you don't need to hang this anyway as this can be kept anywhere without any back support. Based on my experience it has powerful suction and long-lasting battery life which you can easily use for your daily cleaning with a single charge. This vacuum is incredible! Things I love about it: – It is so light, and sucks up stuff so easily and well. You can press it twice for more suction. – The coolest part is there is a light on it so you actually see everything you're vacuuming up. I thought my floor was clean and then I used this vacuum- I couldn't believe how much was there that I couldn't see without the light and how it got up all the dog hair and dust so easily. It's such an awesome idea to have the small light on it- I've never seen that before. – It can lay flat so you can put it all the way under the couch or bed if it's raised up abt 3 or 4" off ground and you can turn it really easily to get edges. I've always had to wipe under the furniture so this is so nice and easy. – it automatically switches suction when you go over carpet vs wood from sensing it. – I LOVE that it's battery operated. the battery seems to last long- I vacuumed the whole downstairs and the charge was still there. I've just been plugging it in to charge every time I put the vacuum back so I'm not sure how long it lasts but seems to last pretty long. – my kids want to vacuum now bc they love seeing all the stuff with the light that gets cleaned up!!! Overall this is a great product. We have a lot of slate which is a bit bumpy but the vac handles it very well. When transitioning to carpet this is where it had a problem and the roller popped out. Now I just turn it off when I go from slate to carpet to area rugs. It does not like long shag so I’ll use my regular vac for those. A great feature is the headlight and that it feels almost self propelled, the maneuverability getting under things like a bed is fabulous. The fact that it’s a comfortable weight and no cord has tended to make me use it on my carpet three times a week, in fact I’ve not used my regular vacuum since receiving this. I am a highly experienced electronic repair technician. I just rebuilt a Shark Rotator Professional lift-away vacuum. Of course users fail to replace or clean all three filters causing loss of suction. Cleaning these with warm water and dawn dish soap works best. The unit claims to have thermal monitoring protection on the brush roll base and its design is causing the complaints of failure to work on carpeting in consumer homes. There is no thermal sensor. It uses a D.C. motor to a circuit board where a series low ohm current drop resistor exists. When the motor is slowed , thwe motor draws more current which lowers the resistence in the moter resistor series circuit causing increased voltage drop on the resistor triggering the circuit and activating the motors disconnect relay turning off motor. Although it does much to protect the motor in case of armature freezing with current applied. It makes the consumer unhappy because they cant vacuum carpets as they expect to paying almost 400 dollars for this nice vacuum. The fast fix is simply taking a soldering iron and lifting on side of the feed back silicon diode and reassembling unit. Now you will find the brush roll attachment actually works and does an awesome cleaning job on any carpet. Be sure to use caution and not pick up things that will jam the brush roller and break the belt. If this happens please turn off vacuum unplug and remove obstruction from brush roller. Then plug back in and finish vacuuming. I hope this helps others, mine is now issue less and working awesome.MissTiffany2025

Okay, this vacuum cleaner is actually FUN to run! It’s lightweight and very flexible. The long wand makes getting corners, cracks and crevices a breeze. Only drawback is the base will tip over if you stretch the hose too far, so keep an eye on it as you use the wand. Cleaning stairs is easy with the “Lift Away” feature. The NV501 has strong suction and durability. Do your regular maintenance as other reviews have mentioned, and store it properly. It’s super easy to take apart when needed. I accidentally sucked up a microfiber cloth once, but was able to open the hose at the right spot and pull the cloth right out. We’ve had our NV501 for almost a decade and still no problems. Have purchased this particular model as gifts for friends and family. Highly recommended.DB

I’ve had this model for about 5 years and yes occasionally you’ll have to cut some hair off the powdered brush if you have long hair or girls around or just heavy traffic I guess but that takes literally 20 seconds. Grab a pair of scissors, cut the hair and pull it out. Any vacuum with a brush is going to eventually wrap up hair! The vacuum has one killer motor, it cleans like nothing I’ve ever seen. I’m continuously impressed by the vast amount of dander, dust, and allergens it grabs every single time! I love how the handle comes off to clean small areas such as my couch cushions, behind furniture, etc. (I have this model which cane with ALL the attachments so I may have paid a bit more but it was definitely worth it) the only other difference is the colors. Mine has dark blue where the red is shown. I absolutely love how I can detach the base when going up stairs as shown in the photo. I don’t use the tiny “car part cleaners” which also came with the bulk of attachments but I guess it’s there if I were to ever need it. My fav attachment is the smaller roller brush that literally eats every cat hair off my dining room chairs and wherever else I need it. Anyway I suppose I could go on but you get my drift. By the way of course after awhile the vacuum will accumulate dust around the base and hose (I’ve seen someone post photos here of their dirty vacuum lol) but it’s a vacuum! It’s going to get dirty! My last thought pertains to the newest model I believe, the NV1000 with the “self cleaning brush” or double brush very bulky looking one. Although I haven’t used it, I personally don’t think it is going to sell much in the end. I say that with regards to the current reviews and complaints along with the marketing aspect in mind. What I conclude is just logical: once again as long as there is a revolving brush or in this case 2 rolling brushes, in time there WILL BE a hair issue as long as there are women, girls, and pets around. It's only been two weeks but already I like the canister vacuum vs our old upright unit. I could never easily vacuum under furniture, beds, etc., but now the reach is terrific. This unit's low profile head gets under mostly every piece of furniture. After putting my almost 25 year old Kenmore canister down, I was reluctant to buy another one knowing how cheaply things are made these days. It's lighter and smaller. It has a lot of sucking power. I don't like how the attachments hook on to the wand and the floor brush gets to go into the canister. The carpet attachment is much the same and works great on carpet, but not as good on the floor. The floor brush is very small and futuristic looking. I wish I would have kept my old one. Overall, I'm happy.CJ

I bought the WindTunnel 2 Whole House Rewind Pet Bagless vaccuum a few weeks before Christmas because my current vaccuum seemed to be losing steam. I hate to say it, but my 6 year old vaccuum of the same size still can way outperform this one. This vaccuum has no suction on bare floors and tends to just throw all the dust and dirt around instead of picking it up. I vaccuumed with this one, then brought out the old one to clean up the mess. The attachment works great – although it just beats the fabric to death and it the vaccuum performs okay on carpet. I will be contacting Hoover directly to return the item since you cannot return it to the store.Wheelbarrow38

I have short pile carpet and tile floors, the vacuum works OK on tile but not on any carpet no matter how high you set it, right out of the box I turned it on and it started smoking and smelling like burning rubber, the belt was pinched when it was assembled, called service they sent me a belt it took 7 days. now I have to replace the belt every other week because if I don't the brush will not work. Had this Vacuum for three months, it does not work as well as my old vac that is 7 years oldMike

I purchased this vacuum brand new, on August 25, 2021. It's November 12, 2021 and it's been used 5-6 times, as we had the vacuum a couple weeks before we moved in to our new home. First two uses were great, then after that it just stopped picking up pet hair. I've inspected it at the request of Chat Support and nothing is wrong with it, no belt issue, nothing. Brush roll is cleaned after every use, as well as the filter and canister. I'm being asked to take it in for "service or replacement," but why would I want the same vacuum again if it doesn't even pick up pet hair after the first two uses?? Customer Support is a joke. Think twice before buying this "pet" vacuum.Taylor

Got this because my wife loves purple. No greater reason to buy a vacuum cleaner than the color. It works great on non-carpeted floors but is impossible to move on carpet. Good thing it's for a home without carpet. Everything works fine except the hose falls apart. You are vacuuming away and suddenly the head is on the floor and you are pushing an incomplete hose. I fixed that with a piece of masking tape around the top of the head piece. Shouldn't have to gerry rig a new vacuum in my opinion.No Body You Know!

I always used Bissell canisters for the easy conversion and parts sharing between machines(since we use them a lot). As Bissells age, the motors naturally get a bit less efficient, and that's expected. The Bissell Zing was a huge mistake. I had to duct tape all of the extension hose connections just to use it at all. Now I can't use it for small crevice jobs unless I rip it all off and retape constantly. It needs a click and lock function on the extension adaptors. It may not be as much of an issue as it ages and it can't lift a cotton ball, but new, it has suction that rips the plain plastic extensions that attach the heads, off onto the floor. I'm going to go with a more pricey manufacturer now. This Green thing is going in the garbage. I had a feeling the price was too good to be true. If you have a roll of duct tape and never plan on using the extensions and only use floor head, or never plan to use extensions and floor head, it will be fine for you and has great suction for that. If you need to ever use the floor features, it may be irritating and require taping. OH LOOK, MADE IN CHINA. Now everything makes sense.Brandy Lewis

I love the Bissell Zing. For the money it works very well. My only complaints are that it is all plastic. While it makes the vacuum light, its durability is questionable. Also the hose has no way of staying on to the floor tool. You push it on and hope for the best. I can see this being a problem in time and also a frustration. One other thing, the electric cord is very short. For the cost in todays world it is very good but you barley get what you pay for these days! My expectations aren't very high! I wish there was a company that would take pride in the fact that they give the consumer a well made product, at a fair cost, that would last longer then a year. I know, by doing this you wouldn't make huge profits but you would still make healthy profits and loyal customers! It would also help the environment with keeping waste at a minimum! As my title suggests, this vacuum cleaner is almost perfect. I'm a big fan of Shark products and have one as our main vacuum. In my opinion Shark vacuums are the best in terms of quality and cost. Recently I've been wanting a smaller, more convenient stick-like vacuum that we can use solely in our bedroom and bathroom upstairs. I didn't want to get another Shark because I didn't think we needed another expensive vacuum for smaller jobs. The cheap ones like the Bissell featherweight and Dirt Devil seemed to be a waste of ~$30 (I could be wrong), so I spent several hours researching on what I thought would be the best product for our needs within a reasonable price. Our requirements were stick-like/convenience, corded (not a fan of batteries, although technically it is more convenient), well-priced, and mainly we were looking for something that just had suction power (we didn't necessarily need a roller head). The main purpose of the vacuum is to pick up hair. With all that being said, my research led me to the Shark Rocket line and Bissell Slim line. What I liked most about these product lines is that they have patented technology for tangle free brush heads. Shark calls their technology Zero M, but the specific one we own doesn't have that. Our Shark Duo-Clean works wonders, but hair does get tangled up very easily, so after every vacuum I have to clean it out. As you can imagine, our bathroom has the most hair build-up. Originally we were using a wand like vacuum to clean up the bathroom, but obviously it doesn't work well to clean up the floors. That's why a stick-like vacuum cleaner was important so we could easily store it somewhere within the bathroom for convenience. The Shark Rocket Zero M is pretty expensive, so that was the main issue. The Bissell Slim is better priced, however, the specific model, 2897, seems to be only sold at Walmart and it is currently on rollback for $99! Fortunately there was one left at my local Walmart, so I bought it last night and cleaned our bedroom and bathroom. I'm really glad I went with this over the Shark because I feel like we saved money and the performance exceeded my expectations. A really neat feature that I liked was the ability to turn the roller head on and off. Even after I vacuumed with the roller head turned on, there was barely any hair tangled in the roller head, so Bissell's technology definitely works. The wall hanger and attachments it came with are really nice too. The reason why I said it is almost perfect is because it doesn't stand up on its own, so if it isn't hung up, it has to be laid on the floor if not in use. It's important to note, however, based on my research similar vacuum cleaners, including the Shark Rocket line, do not stand up on their own either. Other than that, I would recommend this product 100%. Emptying the dust bin is also very easy. The vacuum is not the lightest, but it's also not too heavy and it feels really well built unlike the cheap ~$30 vacuum cleaners.reny

I bought this after adopting a dog and realizing that I would have to vacuum every day. I wanted something light and quick to use all the time. Pros – cord is super long and I don’t have to move the plug at all for most of two levels – pretty maneuverable – cleanable filters – you can switch from carpet to hard floors super easily Cons – it’s pretty heavy, my arm is sore by the end of the job – static on the head of the vacuum collects pet hair that won’t ever get picked up unless you end with vacuuming a carpet – it doesn’t stand on its own which isn’t a big deal as long as you have a place to mount the holding bracket – it’s hard to empty the canister because you have to hold the vacuum up, push the button, and pull the canister out all at once and the canister has nothing to grab on to. I have big hands and find it challenging – the attachments don’t click on, they just slide on an get stuck so I have no idea if I ever get them on right – you have to let the filters dry for at least 24 hrs after washing which is frustrating when you use the thing more than once daily Overall, I would not suggest it if you are getting it to deal with pet hair regularly. It doesn’t get all the hair, is cumbersome to store and empty, and I regret buying it even though I got it on sale. Definitely would not be happy if I had paid full price. I'm thinking this might be a get what you pay for type of product. When it works it's great, but along with other reviews I have to say the roller assembly is not good. While it picks up my pets hair really good, the rollers have a problem of the axle not being in the center. This causes it to vibrate slightly and melt the edges and the floor plate. The first time this happened after only 3 months of weekly use, Bissell replaced the roller and floor plate. Second time….3 months later, Bissell told me the original unit was covered under a 2 year warranty but spare parts were not. Since the roller had already been replaced, I was advised that this was now a spare part and I was responsible to replace. They also said this roller was expected to be replaced every 3 months. Long store short, the price of this Vacuum is reasonable, but expect $100 per year in operating cost replacing a $25 roller every 3 months. I will be keeping the handheld portion and it's attachments, but I will find another vacuum for the standup function. I will not continue to replace the roller after every 12 uses…that is just ridiculous.Brandon

Before purchasing the Dyson I id a lot of research, I needed to know the vacuum I bought would do exactly what I wanted, I haven't been disappointed! Firstly, I wanted to be able to vacuum the corners of my ceilings due to cobwebs and dust on high cabinets. Secondly, I wanted to be able to vacuum the stairs easily, without having to dismantle the whole thing and/or carry a heavy lump with me. Thirdly, I needed it to be able to clean hard floors, two cats can produce a lot of hair surprisingly, then again so can my wife but i won't go into that just now! Fourthly, the ability to empty the container without the contents spewing all over the place or creating a dust cloud. On all aspects the Dyson multifloor has performed outstandingly! It has a long hose that is easy to detach and easily reaches the full height of my ceiling without having to stretch, likewise for my stairs, it reaches the top tread ( admittedly at full hose length) without the need for me to take the whole thing with me. Emptying the container is simply a click of a button and its done, after my previous cleaner, this was an absolute pleasure. I read a review that said cat hair etc wraps around the drum, i have to say I;ve used it now for nearly 4 weeks and the drum is as clear as the day i bought it. My last cleaner was continually getting snarled up with hair etc, leaving me to cut it out with scissors or a knife – not a pleasant task! So, the good points; Long hose reach (2 metre) long cable length (5 metre I think) awesome suction on hard floor or carpet and is adjustable! easy to empty Reasonably light weight. Compared to the Shark its light! Very easy to manoeuvre Bad points; there is only one attachment holder, this has to hold the long nozzle and the small head. Its not really a problem as such, just me being lazy Overall this is a fantastic product and I would highly recommend it.GJW66

A pleasure to use this new Dyson as it is a good looking creature, nice to handle and convenient to empty. The suction is powerful and the machine is relatively quiet to run compared to previous vacuum cleaners I have owned. Initially I had a little difficulty following some of the diagrammatic instructions in the manual, but once mastered the clicks and snaps required to attach/dismantle the various tools become second nature and it is so easy to switch from one cleaning mode to another. I particularly like the extra long lead which means that I can do virtually the whole house without unplugging, and the bendy long attachment which enables me to vacuum between the radiator and the wall to remove the dust of ages. The machine is very manoeuvrable when turning because of the ball design and the suction control means that I can do a thorough vacuum or a quick once-over on differing floor surfaces. Emptying the bin is quick and easy and because it is transparent I can see straight away when it needs doing, with no messy bag to change. I wipe round the bin with a moist cloth to keep it looking good. The filters need looking after and rinsing through with cold water at least once a month, and must be thoroughly dried before returning to their specific sites within the machine. Some of the tools sit on a peg at the side of the machine so can be carried around with it, especially useful when the stairs need vacuuming. The long stretchy hose reaches most of the stairs whilst the machine is on the ground floor. I was a bit concerned that the transparent "plastic" handle, buttons and levers wouldn't stand up to long wear and tear, but after using the machine for a while I realised that the construction material is very hard wearing and durable; sometimes you just have to put your trust in the name of the manufacturer and believe that they chose the best.Jonquilly

I was absolutely so extremely excited to receive this Dyson vacuum cleaner! All of my friends and relatives who own any type of the Dyson vacuum cleaners absolutely made me believe that this product is the top of the line and the best of the best on the market. Well…I decided to see and check it out for myself and see how good this product really is and if it is really worth the price that it costs on the market. So when i received this vacuum cleaner the set up process was extremely easy, not confusing at all with a help of the instructions, it just takes a couple of minutes to snap in the parts into where they belong and the vacuum cleaner is ready for use! Right after I set it up, I couldn't hardly make the vacuum cleaner stand up straight, it would be constantly falling backwards, but that did not distract me and I decided to just look through and see what specific functions it has and does, and that's where I got disappointed. First of all, unlike the advertisement of this product states that it is a lightweight vacuum cleaner, it is actually not lightweight at all, i think its pretty heavy as it is around 15 lbs in weight, and that is what pretty much any other vacuum cleaner out there on the market weights. Also I have immediately noticed that the two attachments that do come in the box, are completely impossible to get attached anywhere on the side of the vacuum cleaner! That was a shocker! While vacuuming my carpets daily I love the ability to just snap on the attachments I need onto the hose and use it at any time I need them, this vacuum cleaner does not make it any easier on me, as the attachments only can be snapped on the actual hose while vacuuming , so that means that any time you need to use an attachment you have to go and find it wherever you placed it and then you will be able to use it, it is kinda very disappointing and not convenient whatsoever! That just means that I have to find a place where to store extra attachments and that is loss for me. Also I have noticed how small the dust chamber is, any of the other vacuum cleaners that I have ever owned had way bigger dust chamber which means you don't have to empty it out as often. The good thing about the dust chamber is that you just easily open it up with a snap off the button, so you will never make any mess. The cord of this product is pretty much as long as any other vacuum cleaner, which is about 18 feet or so in length, which is a plus. There are only two buttons that you can actually use – ON/OFF button, and also a brushroll button, which allows you turn it on while vacuuming the carpets or rugs and turn it off when vacuuming the floors. The actual hose gets snapped into the vacuum handle, which on one hand is very convenient and a space saver, but on the other hand, I always have trouble to pop it back into the handle and make it stay there. My biggest disappointment was the inability to adjust the vacuum cleaner to the height of the carpets, I thinks that it is a huge loss and is such a disappointment! I like when I can adjust to my carpet height, as it gives me an opportunity to actually control how well my vacuum cleaner will suck up all of the dirt and dust off my carpets and floors! This vacuum cleaner does not give you that option and it is extremely disappointing! I put this Dyson to a test, the same one I put all of my vacuums through – I dumped some dirt on the carpet and vacuumed it off, little did I know, is that this product would not be able to accomplish that! The dirt was still on the carpet, right there just sitting, and this vacuum cleaner just picked up the top layer off!!! Right after that, I brought my other vacuum cleaner (which is actually only cost under $100) into the room and it sucked all the remaining dirt right up!! Unbelievable! So yes, that was the only thing for me that I had to see with my own eyes in order to really decide for myself how good this product really is, and it left me absolutely disappointed, and I am actually surprised! So yes, while everybody screams and states that this vacuum cleaner is actually the best on the market, I guess everybody has to find out how good/bad it really is on their own. I guess the only feature that I actually do absolutely love about this Dyson vacuum cleaner is the steering effect, which allows me to steer it in any way possible in order to get in the toughest spots to pick up the dust and dirt, the steering function is pretty much the biggest plus and the greatest function of this vacuum cleaner. While this Dyson vacuum cleaner cleans up the basic dirt off your carpets and floors, it really does not have to my opinion that great of a suction, though it has some pluses, like -long cord, easy to open/empty dust chamber, long hose for the ease of reaching to the hardest spots, great corner cleaning abilities, washable filters, which you never have to buy and replace, not too loud, I can actually say it is a little quieter than any other vacuum cleaner thksjch

Just moved to new state, left old vacuum for daughter. It was a larger Dirt Devil that we needed for all the shag carpet in that home, but our new home is a lot of hardwood and low pile carpet and I didn't feel I needed another large vacuum. Read some reviews and as with any product you will read "best" and "worst" – so you just have to decide if it's a chance worth taking … for me, IT WAS! I absolutely love this little devil 😉 lightweight and so very easy to use. Does a FAR better job than the traditional dust mop I was using before it arrived. I will say that we don't have children or pets, so it has a pretty easy gig. Doesn't have real strong suction, but very sufficient for our needs. Nice long cord. A snap to put together. Seems sturdy as I've dropped it 2x already and still works perfectly fine. Because it is small it won't hold a lot of debris, but again sufficient for our needs. I like that there is no belt that needs to be replaced and there is not rotary brush that needs to be constantly cleaned … I hate that! The only con is that it doesn't stand up by itself (need to lean it against something) but that was just a matter of getting used to leaning it on something and not just letting go of it. Works equally on hardwood and our low pile carpet. VERY pleased.Carol

I live in senior living, and not that strong; I moved into here with a Dycem. All the floors are laminate except bedroom rug. To use Dycem is difficult, is too heavy, and mars laminate. This little vacuum fills the bill, does not have beater bars, is maneuverable, goes up against baseboards and flattens out underneath things. The suction is excellent, gets dust, hair and whatever, and is very lightweight. Great simple solution, it was easy to put together and get out of box.Helofu

Really great at collecting fine particle dust, etc. Picks up from carpet, incl deep pile, or hard surface. Good power/suction and easy to switch from 'floor mode' to 'dustbuster' mode. When iRobots first came out I scoffed. The looked cute and all but I could not imagine it going around and just doing its job without interruption. Then I started reading these reviews and Consumers and figured – 90 day money back guarantee (from Walmart, not iRobot) why not try it out. Now we have a small condo (870sq ft) so there are lots of things that need to be picked up before vacuuming. The notion of setting it up to clean without us saying so would not work. It would be swallowing socks or whatever. We learned two main lessons. Let your roomie do its thing. Let it go. Read a book or watch TV. It may be hurrying down the corridor away from you when you think it should have taken care of something right by your side. Let it go. Watch your program. It will come back. The other is that if you have pets clean it out about twice as often as the instructions say. Oh, a third warning. This saves a lot of work but it is not labor free. You need to empty the dust, clean the filter and clean out the brushes regularly. We are a couple in out 70s and really appreciate our roomie even if it pays no rent.Niall

PERFORMANCE: The biggest issue I have is that this Roomba 670 tends to vacuum over the same area numerous times instead of moving in a systematic manner. It takes much longer to complete a job because of the random pattern and vacuuming where it has already cleaned. Rather than making small adjustments and work around furniture, it will turn and go in the opposite direction if it bumps into something. DOCKING: When returning to its charging station, it has a hard time finding the dock and can take quite a while to find its way. If it ends in another room, it will most likely not find its way back before the battery dies and you will have to assist it. CLEANING PERFORMANCE: It does an ok job my hardwood floors, but obviously you'll have to keep the floor picked up from obstructions, and you'll probably want to run it pretty much everyday. VALUE: The price of this Roomba 670 is a little high for no more than it does. $179 would be a pretty reasonable price in my opinion. I believe it normally runs around $269 though I found mine on sale for $199 at Walmart. OVER ALL: It may take some time to decide whether it is actually worth the money spent based on the fact that it takes much longer to vacuum as opposed to just getting a vacuum and doing it yourself, when and where you want to vacuum. The difference between taking 15 minutes to vacuum one room compared to 45 minutes to an hour. For hardwood or vinyl floors I would recommend. I do have a rug and it did not do so well on it so I wouldn't recommend for carpet.ChattanoogaLookoutMtn

My house is primarily hard-wood flooring, with several large rugs. So, I thought this vacuum would be perfect, since you can use it on both. I am so disappointed in this product! It works great on the rugs, but hardly picks anything up on the hard floors. I usually have to sweep after using this, not cool! Also, the chamber is pretty small and needs to be emptied every use, sometimes more than once. The battery life is terrible too, it barely makes it through the living room, dining room, and family room without dying. I don't know if I got a defective one, or they are all like this, but my house is by no means huge, and I feel like with it being brand new, its should have better suction and battery life. There is not an option to use it while plugged in, as it has a AC adapter for the power/charger cord, so if the battery dies, you're out of luck!Emily
