20 Best Vacuum For Commercial Carpet (Jan 2023 Update)

I bought this Oreck XL Commercial floor sweeper as a brand-new backup unit for an existing Oreck Xl home vac that I bought back in the 1990's. The original one still works just fine and the only maintenance it has ever required, other than bag changes, was a single drive belt replacement. The Oreck XL is a workhorse floor/carpet sweeper! And, the best part is that I recently got this brand-new one for $200, which is less than half of the price I paid for my original Oreck XL, back in the 1990's. The Oreck XL Commercial vacuum is light in weight (8 pounds). The low profile makes it incredibly easy to slide underneath a bed (you can even store it under there, between uses). It has a very comfortable ergonomically-designed handle with readily accessible on/off control switch. Each vacuum bag is top-loading and holds an incredible amount of debris. The filter bag is easy to change, is reasonably priced, and prevents any sneeze-producing dust from ever escaping the vac during use.vintage-connections

5/15/19 I did a lot of research before I chose to get one of these. I found out that the motor is only a 4 amp motor and I wondered if that was going to be powerful enough to do a good job. (I knew the motor was very long lasting.). I figured that because the discharge bag downstream of the motor was so much larger then comprable vacuums, that there would not be much back pressure on the motor and so by design, you probably don't need such a powerful motor. I also figured, that if you design a vacuum cleaner right, why would you need a 10 11 12 amp motor? I like the fact that it had a good quality cord that you didn't have to bend over to wrap the cord up it had a big bag so you didn't have to constantly buy bags did it was durable, because it is what janitors use and hotels across the country. I also know that my carpet was not a shag carpet it was a lower carpet and it was a hardwood floor. So I figured I would buy it from Walmart and try it and if I don't like it I can get my money back. WOW!!! I am so impressed with this machine! It picks up like you would not believe everything and I love the fact that you don't need a motor that is so powerful it belongs on a saw to cut wood. I love not having all these gadget cheap accessories that falling off all the time. I love being able to get underneath stuff. I love the lightweight. I love the switch on the handle in case I suck up a sock or shoelace. so that I can shut the motor off before I burn up a belt. I love the fact there's a spare belt underneath. I love the heavy-duty cushioning around the motor housing. And I really like the way the brushes are set up the beater bars very well-designed very simple very rugged very durable. (I believe in keep it simple KISS.)! So what if it's a tad noisy. And the negative review the guy posted about not being able to get us handle tight……well…… Some people are just not the least bit mechanically inclined. I like it better than my Bissell, KenmoreJay

Our Princess vacuum just died. We have always had problems finding bags for it anyway… We received a used Oreck as a gift many years ago and it still runs and cleans super. We still wanted a second vacuum on the top level. Well, that was a no brainer. The Oreck is very lite and easy to maneuver. Best vacuum cleaning we have ever seen.Brian

Great vacuum for quickly cleaning hard floors, blinds, upholstery, and trim. When I use it I find myself vacuuming other things as well since it is so convenient and powerful. The two attachments with bristles arrived with the bristles bent out of shape. Called Hoover and they sent replacements that also had bent out of shape bristles. Didn't bother trying a third time. Will have to put felt pad on edges of floor tool because I just noticed it is leaving black marks on the white trim. Wish wand attachment pieces could be used separately, sometimes the wand is too long to maneuver in tight spaces. Overall very satisfied with the purchase.CraftFish

This vacuum is powerful and easy to use in open areas. Very powerful suction. The long cord prevents constant stop and change outlets: I can almost vacuum my whole house without changing outlets. The attachment tools are a bit tricky; took a while to figure out how to get them on and off (no instructions in the manual on this) still don't know if I'm attaching them correctly but they are working. Quicker cleaning without a canister to drag around the room; stairwell is a breeze now. I can easily use the vacuum to dust the baseboards, cabinets, furniture and crown molding. I would recommend this vacuum to anyone with large open floor areas; not so much for small crowded rooms.REBECCA J.

I bought this item for my personal home use because of the greatly discounted price. When it arrived I found that the tools didn't fit the wand. The tools OD was smaller that the wand ID. I tried contacting the Hoover service department but was never able to get through, both on the phone and by email. I was able to fashion some sleeves for the tools so that they would fit the wand properly. The sleeves are simply metal tape wrapped around the flange. They attach securely and swivel as needed. Works fine for me since I just use the vacuum around the house. I only kept it because of the low price and the fact I don't use it that much. If I were using it on a daily basis, my fix wouldn't hold up and there would be the needed to reapply the tape, so I would have sent it back.Paul T.

This vacuum is good for its price. It is mainly plastic construction but it holds up with normal use. The power cable is two pieces (short length attached to the vacuum and a long extension) that is heavy duty and weighs a lot more than standard vacuums.wiz240

This is my third purchase of this vacuum over the years and obviously I love it. Light weight and a dynamo cleaner it is also perfect for anyone with a limited weight carrying they can tolerate. I liked this vacuum but will warn you the hose attachment is very cheaply made. The vacuum itself has incredible suction power. Better then any hand held vacuum I have ever owned. Best Canister Vacuum on the market. I have purchased several portable canister vacuums and this Oreck is the best! I purchased this for my son who is in construction so he can clean up messes for his customers when he finishes his jobs. He says the vac is so powerful it has picked up wood splinters, sheet rock crumbles, pebbles, broken glass – anything mess that is left over from a construction job. I use it all around the house and in my car. Forget those car vacuums that don't pick up anything. I have owned 3 Oreck sweepers for 25+ years. Received my first canister sweeper as a freebie when I purchased my first upright. I loved it for cleaning cars, stairs, windows and around the baseboards in our home. It was light weight but very durable. It was my go-to sweeper for small and quick jobs. The only complaints I have are the red cord… really? why red? and the flexible hose is not long enough for most chores. I had another hose from an older sweeper, my husband had to modify the older hose but now I am much happier with the longer, more flexible hose.Kathy

I have had the old version of the canister and loved it. I decided to give that one to my father and buy this. It is difficult to use.1. the hose always pulls against you – have tried to stretch it out but it doesn't work.2. The friction method of attaching the extension wand does not work as the weight of the wand is too heavy. I kept having to put it back on as it slides off and eventually the end of the wand cracked and needed to be taped.3. The longer cord is great but is too heavy for the weight of the canister itself.4. The strap broke within a month so can't hang it over my shoulder > the little plastic that attaches it – is not strong enough.5. Very good vacuum cleaner. Not pretty, not fancy, but functional. We found that it actually works better on our plush carpet when run on the low speed. In this way, it doesn't suck the carpet up into the rotating brush, which makes it harder to push. Even on low, it creates PLENTY of suction.R.

I am a highly experienced electronic repair technician. I just rebuilt a Shark Rotator Professional lift-away vacuum. Of course users fail to replace or clean all three filters causing loss of suction. Cleaning these with warm water and dawn dish soap works best. The unit claims to have thermal monitoring protection on the brush roll base and its design is causing the complaints of failure to work on carpeting in consumer homes. There is no thermal sensor. It uses a D.C. motor to a circuit board where a series low ohm current drop resistor exists. When the motor is slowed , thwe motor draws more current which lowers the resistence in the moter resistor series circuit causing increased voltage drop on the resistor triggering the circuit and activating the motors disconnect relay turning off motor. Although it does much to protect the motor in case of armature freezing with current applied. It makes the consumer unhappy because they cant vacuum carpets as they expect to paying almost 400 dollars for this nice vacuum. The fast fix is simply taking a soldering iron and lifting on side of the feed back silicon diode and reassembling unit. Now you will find the brush roll attachment actually works and does an awesome cleaning job on any carpet. Be sure to use caution and not pick up things that will jam the brush roller and break the belt. If this happens please turn off vacuum unplug and remove obstruction from brush roller. Then plug back in and finish vacuuming. I hope this helps others, mine is now issue less and working awesome.MissTiffany2025

Okay, this vacuum cleaner is actually FUN to run! It’s lightweight and very flexible. The long wand makes getting corners, cracks and crevices a breeze. Only drawback is the base will tip over if you stretch the hose too far, so keep an eye on it as you use the wand. Cleaning stairs is easy with the “Lift Away” feature. The NV501 has strong suction and durability. Do your regular maintenance as other reviews have mentioned, and store it properly. It’s super easy to take apart when needed. I accidentally sucked up a microfiber cloth once, but was able to open the hose at the right spot and pull the cloth right out. We’ve had our NV501 for almost a decade and still no problems. Have purchased this particular model as gifts for friends and family. Highly recommended.DB

I’ve had this model for about 5 years and yes occasionally you’ll have to cut some hair off the powdered brush if you have long hair or girls around or just heavy traffic I guess but that takes literally 20 seconds. Grab a pair of scissors, cut the hair and pull it out. Any vacuum with a brush is going to eventually wrap up hair! The vacuum has one killer motor, it cleans like nothing I’ve ever seen. I’m continuously impressed by the vast amount of dander, dust, and allergens it grabs every single time! I love how the handle comes off to clean small areas such as my couch cushions, behind furniture, etc. (I have this model which cane with ALL the attachments so I may have paid a bit more but it was definitely worth it) the only other difference is the colors. Mine has dark blue where the red is shown. I absolutely love how I can detach the base when going up stairs as shown in the photo. I don’t use the tiny “car part cleaners” which also came with the bulk of attachments but I guess it’s there if I were to ever need it. My fav attachment is the smaller roller brush that literally eats every cat hair off my dining room chairs and wherever else I need it. Anyway I suppose I could go on but you get my drift. By the way of course after awhile the vacuum will accumulate dust around the base and hose (I’ve seen someone post photos here of their dirty vacuum lol) but it’s a vacuum! It’s going to get dirty! My last thought pertains to the newest model I believe, the NV1000 with the “self cleaning brush” or double brush very bulky looking one. Although I haven’t used it, I personally don’t think it is going to sell much in the end. I say that with regards to the current reviews and complaints along with the marketing aspect in mind. What I conclude is just logical: once again as long as there is a revolving brush or in this case 2 rolling brushes, in time there WILL BE a hair issue as long as there are women, girls, and pets around. Pros: Nice and light and portable. Does not tip over like the standard Henry. Adequate on carpets with no pile using brush facility. Cons: Suction is appalling. No use if you have to Hoover a lot of animal hair, just blows hair about and redeposits it elsewhere. Battery life poor, one full battery is not sufficient for the downstairs of a small two up two down. Takes about 3 hours to charge, which is a long time considering the battery life. Metal tubing comes apart mid vacuum, which is annoying. Regret buying.Gilly

LOVE Henry/Harry!!! Friendly little chap with a FEROCIOUS appetite. He's the vacuum we should have purchased YEARS ago, instead of all those bagless, horrifyingly expensive uprights, promising to be all we needed to keep our home clean and quickly proving they just weren't up to the job. One of the most amazing points about Harry is that he doesn't blow "wet dog" odours back out as he vacuums. Now the carpets not only look spotless again but the rooms smell fresh thanks to his charcoal filter. The electric lead is really long and the dust bag is massive so, all in all, no need to keep stopping to find another socket to plug in to, rarely having to fit a new dust bag and no stopping to pull dog hair out of his special "fur" attachment, because he just keeps going.AMAZING!!!We've fallen in love with Harry. Pros: Tube too long for me as I am short, but you can remove one piece of the metal tube to reduce length. British made. Previously had two small cheap (<£70) hepa 'Hoover' cylinder vacuums which funnily enough failed two months after warranty each time! Wanted new hoover to last much longer to be kinder to landfill (eco reasons) and it seems robust enough to last longer than 2-3 years, time will tell.There must be a reason why cleaners and builders routinely choose this brand!Great suction including large bits of kiddie-crumbs. Very long lead mitigates extra weight on stairs and less time changing plug sockets. Cons: Heavier than last vacuum (it'd be hard not to be, to be fair, as last ones were light). Bought them for a hotel, terrible vacuum, parts break really easily, and after a few months they start making a lot of noise when vacuuming even when on the quiet mode.

I use the Proteam ProForce in my cleaning business. It is a excellent vacuum and has several advantages over other vacuums. It is made on the same pattern as an Electrolux upright vacuum. It uses the same bags. The hose and wand are very useful and save time from having to put the hose in to vacuum areas. It has great suction. The only fault I have with the machine is the material it is made from. I have trouble with parts breaking off of the machine – like the area around the wheels, cord holder, etc. The plastic is brittle. Of course it could be my employee's lack of care with the machine. Another problem is the cord twists on the machines that my employees after a few months of use. I have purchased over 15 of these vacuums in the last 3 years. I still have one of the first vacuums with no problems. All of my employees have had their vacuums replaced more than once. For home use I believe that this vacuum would last a long time without the concerns that I stated above.islandbeachwalker

This is actually a Panasonic vacuum private labeled. I have been using them for 25 years. They work incredibly well. In my opinion they are as good as vacuums that are 3 x the price. The only difference it that you need to purchase bags, though they are very inexpensive.jchgolfer

Decided to buy this machine after using a friends Puzzi 100 and I must say I'm very impressed with it! Really powerful suction and combined with a nice shampoo (I've used Screwfix's No Nonsense) it does a fantastic job. You'll be amazed at how much muck comes out of a seemingly clean carpet! This vacuum is horrible. I thought I would like it after reading the reviews but it is extremely heavy. It doesn't maneuver.. When you try to go underneath a chair because of the weight of the tof the top of the vacuum the bottom part does not remain flat as it will not touch the carpet. The hose is not it's not great either. Very stiff. I wish I was able to return it but it was purchased during covid and target wouldn't let you return home goods.Dee9435

We have had many brands of vacuums before. None were as well designed and solid as the Prolux 9000. It is quiet yet has great suction. We have oriental carpets. After one vacuuming with our Prolux we could visibly see how much cleaner they were. Attachments are wonderful and store securely in the vacuum. First let me start by saying I had never even heard of Prolux before. Doing online research though in search of a new reliable vacuum that is upright and has a bag, my husband actually found your company. I love the vacuum! Unlike other uprights I have owned, it came completely assemble except for the handle, which was a breeze to attach. I will admit I was concerned for the weight of the machine, but I swear this vacuum is self-propelled, or at least it seems like it is. Very easy to push on thick carpet and I love that all I have to do is press a button with my foot to change to hardwood flooring in my kitchen. I love that all the attachments are conveniently stored on-board. Very easy to change from upright to using the attachments. The only thing I'm not sure about is the lever on the back of the nozzle to adjust the suction power. Not really crazy about it but it's definitely not a deal breaker for me. And, it's relatively quiet compared to my old 12 amp vacuum. I love this vacuum and would not hesitate to recommend it to my friends.Mindylu

First off you need too know we have a 2-story home, about 30 years old, fully carpeted, with two indoor dogs (Corgis – who have two coats that they “blow” year round!)! We learned a long time ago that dust and dog hair was a real problem, and needed a vacuum that could keep up. Tried several expensive ones with all the “doo-dads” but they would break quickly, loose suction very quickly, couldn’t keep up with the pet hair… You get the picture. Our most recent purchase before the Oreck was one of those “ball” type vacuums that supposedly never loose suction – supposed to be a real “Animal”, and the cost reflected the hype. But it was so lousy at picking up pet hair I would have to “rake” the carpet with a little plastic rake first to get up most the pet hair. It would loose suction and the cannister would fill up so fast I had to empty it after every room. So I broke down and spent some money on a simple vacuum with no gimmicks, just “a vacuum”. The Oreck XL Commercial is the real “animal” in this zoo. It NEVER loses suction. Where none of the other vacuums I ever owned would do a good job of getting pet hair and that powder you spread to make the carpet smell good up in one pass, the Oreck gets all of it in ONE pass. The bag on this vacuum can be changed out in about 30 seconds (when you have too). I probably could vacuum this house twice and still not have to replace the bag as it’s really that big! And the cord is 40’ long! No more constantly hunting for a plug. I plug it in once and do an entire floor. It’s built very simple and tuff since it’s a commercial grade vacuum and very light weight. Oh, the handle is really nice and you can bend it completely level with the floor to vacuum under tables and such. I don’t ussually take the time to right a review since I figure they should make stuff right to begin with. But this vacuum deserves a good review.R.H.

After our Hoover Windtunnel died (thank goodness, actually, because I was going deaf using it) I did a lot of online research before spending $$$ on a new vacuum. We have one dog that sheds, and varying carpet plushnesses (is that a word?) in our home. After reading reviews on the Prolux 6000 I thought why not give it a shot. It arrived as promised. The packaging and product was in excellent condition. My husband assembled it with no trouble, even though an owners manual was absent from the package. After contacting the seller directly, the owners manual was emailed to me. The vacuum is easy to use, lighter than I expected, made of less plastic than I expected, which is a good thing, and is so very quiet. I don't need to wear ear protection when vacuuming. The attachments work as promised. I am very pleased with this purchase and would recommend it. One tip: DON'T run over the cord. I have never in my 30 plus years of vacuuming ever had an issue with accidentally running over the cord. This is the first vacuum I've owned that does suck up the cord, but don't let that little issue dissuade you from purchasing this product.PhilipK

Hello – I hope you find this review helpful to you. I live on a farm with my husband who is in a wheelchair, and we have 3 dogs (two who shed substantially). So, as you can imagine, a LOT comes into my house from outside both from the dogs and the chair. I had a bagless vacuum I purchased from Walmart but after 4 uses I gave up. It clogged with doghair and dust SO easily, and emptying the canister was both dirty and pointless. The vacuum also was covered with dust and doghair after every use and it blew stinky dust out when I started it up. So I thought, I need to invest – and I decided on a bagged vacuum. I borrowed my friends Riccar for the time being while I shopped. I was recommended this Prolux, I have to admit I had never heard of it (but then I had never heard of Riccar before, I grew up with Central Vac) – and after reading about it, I decided to go ahead. With a 5 year Warranty I figure, it has to be better than what I had from Walmart! My friends Riccar was fantastic – picked everything up in 2 or 3 sweeps, so I knew what an expensive one could do. When the Prolux arrived, I was very happy to find it was lighter than the Riccar, I unpacked it from the box and assembled it myself. And to my surprise – it worked JUST AS WELL on the dog hair, dust covered area rug as the Riccar!! I actually did part of the area rug with the Riccar and left another part for the Prolux to compare. The one thing I noticed is it didn't reach right up to table legs from the side, I will have to use the crevice tool – but it was the same with the Riccar. I used one of the tools for my upholstered chairs and it picked up the doghair off that too!! Overall …. WOW! For the price, this vacuum is a STEAL. It is quieter than the Riccar too – lighter, has similar tools, has a nice long cord and hose. Plus, I like that the mess is contained in the bag, all I have to do is take that out and put a new one in. No more dust flying in my face, onto my clothes and back into t…KbA-zoo

I own a 5000 sqft office and multiple rental properties and have been using 300$ shark vacuums that just do not do a great job, do not hold up at all to usage. This thing is a tank, it has that retro commercial look, but still updated looking. It's hefty, but by no means heavy. The noise level is not bad at all. The best part is it works. The thing sucks up a ton of dirt and debris. I also do not get that nasty vacuumed smell that bagless seem to produce since they do a crap job of filtering. I will be buying another for our personal home to now that I have tested it in our offices.Theo

I have 2 dogs and have gone through many vacuums. I can't stand when I vacuum a room and still see dog hair. The only negative is; it is not as good on hardwood floors and I wish it came with attachments for my stairs. I will be purchasing the accessory attachment kit. I love the long industrial cord. This machine is by far the best I have used and is a great deal for the money.soccervanmom

This is actually a Panasonic vacuum private labeled. I have been using them for 25 years. They work incredibly well. In my opinion they are as good as vacuums that are 3 x the price. The only difference it that you need to purchase bags, though they are very inexpensive.jchgolfer

This cleaner is awesome even when picking up rock salt. The best feature is when the bag is full the cleaner shuts down. Having a cleaning business it matters. It leaves me at ease knowing staff will not over load the vacuum bag.2929cleaner

Was fortunate to have a demo of this new battery vacuum the other day by Hoover and it's like no other vacuum I have used both commercial and non-commercial. I've used other brands but they don't compare. The auto power forward and reverse made vacuuming almost effortless. The D handle also is an improvement over the other battery operated vacuums. Plus it's made in the USA.Griz
