Best Vacuum For Fireplace Ash (2023 Update)

Moved from Sweden to US a few months ago and was annoyed with the traditional vacuum cleaner we had here, having having to maneuver a heavy and loud motor and not being able to reach underneath furniture. Was driving me crazy and it felt like it was blowing out more dust than it picked up. The Tritan vacuum is very efficient and I was actually surprised by the high quality and power of the motor considering this is not a very expensive machine. It really does the job and with the included attachments it works for any cleaning need. The only downside to it is that I would have liked the electric cord to be a bit longer for better range, but it works well anyway. Many years ago there was a Swedish brand of Vacuum cleaners called "Elektrolux" and they had a slogan "Nothing sucks like an Elektrolux". I would change that now to "Nothing sucks like a Prolux". 🙂Anthony76

I really wanted to love this vacuum, but will have to return it, in spite of the suction being awesome. The suction is as good or better than my Shark vacuums. I needed a good HEPA canister vacuum that would work well on my hard surface floors, window shades/blinds and walls/ceilings. I was disappointed to find that even though there is a HEPA filter, the bags are not HEPA bags. I haven't determined, yet,if the vacuum is sealed well enough, to avoid dispersing dust back into the room. Additionally, the bristles on the hard floor brush are so stiff and scratchy, I am reluctant to use it on my hardwood floors. Unfortunately, none of my better attachments, from my previous vacuums, fit the Tritan. I need to be able to vacuum my walls and ceilings, but the floor brush is not suitable for that either. I would like to be able to comfortably (and safely) vacuum the tops of door frames and window shades and blinds, without using the extension tube. But , the stiff hose does not stretch and is too short to directly attach the dust brush and reach overhead, to the top of my door frames. Back to the drawing board for me, as the Tritan Canister is just not suitable for my needs.C.B.

I am 69 years old, so believe me when I tell you I have had many vacuum cleaners in my life, from a Kirby to a Miele to the less expensive uprights that just don't last. When I moved and left behind my latest upright as a gift to the buyer of my house, I had to find a new vacuum. One that would last. One that could suck up dog hair from my Australian Shepherd. One that was maneuverable and could also clean my truck's interior. When I saw the ad for the Prolux Triton I was taken by how absolutely cute it is. I love its retro looks, like a 50's space ship with chrome and a sleek shape. I love the design of the retractable cord, its maneuverability and the very very powerful motor. I now have a restored vintage house (circa 1900) which requires a strong machine to eliminate dust. I am very pleased with my Prolux Triton!!Vicki

I purchased this SNOWJOE Ash Vacuum to clean out my pellet stove, which burns sawdust pellets and leaves behind a small amount of ash and burned pellet ash in the burn pot. It has been super handy. The unit is small enough I leave out and next to my pellet stove, so it's ready to go each time I need it. It works efficiently and does a good job sucking everything out. I have found the unit to be well made. I purchased the unit based on price and the reviews from other pellet stove owner/users. The size of the aluminum attachment is big and doesn't get into small areas well, but I turn it to angle it the best I can and use a clean paint brush to brush those areas while leaving vacuum on to suck up dust that flies while doing this. I would like it to have come with two more attachments, one being a smaller nozzle for small areas and the other being a brush style attachment like regular vacuums have to vacuum the sides of the pellet stove. But overall, this is a great product and I am very pleased with it!Morgan

piece of crap! will try to return. put it together tested it on fireplace ash… filled half way… stopped sucking. Nothing clogged. Went out and dumped the ash outside (to try again) one of the clamps fell off (not gonna find it in ash and grass) they are supposed to be attached… can't find clamp won't suck any ash up. get what you pay for… I just wanted a small one to fit in upstairs closet.auntiepol

Works great! Picked up all the ashes very easily. Canister is lightweight, considering it's all metal. Can handle easily. Not too large, if you have a small space to store. Picked up at Tractor Supply very quickly. Excellent value for the price. I definitely recommend!Carmen

I liked using my new vacuum and had no problem with it being bagless, but the extension cord would keep rewinding once the motor got warm. I was insulted when sent a email from Prolux that I needed to clean the canister to get optimized performance and the machine was overheating because I wasn't keeping the canister cleaned out. Oh, but I was! I was caring for the vacuum after reading all the instructions for best use and the canister wasn't even full but I'd clean it out before putting it away…then there was no suction (even with a newly cleaned canister). We took the hose off and was finding that the arc of the handle was gathering dirt and not carrying it out. Too much hassle so I got a refund.Bette W.

Pros: went together quite easily (I did read the manual) So far it has great suction, and easy to clean. Picks up pet hair really well, there was a lot of fine dust in the dust/dirt container when I emptied it out, so that is a good thing. Three cats and 2 labs in my house, and they are all inside/outside critters. The power head works well. I had read that people have issues with it tipping over. Didn't happen to me, and moves around easily. All the parts fit right into place, no gaps, nothing hard to pull apart. I really like that it is bagless. Cons; The box was quite broken up when it arrived, guess that is the delivery peoples fault. There were two broken pieces, one being the on board tool caddy for storage of the attachments (I don't believe that could have happened in shipping), one other broken piece of plastic, that came from somewhere, still trying to figure out what it goes to. The tank itself has a big dent in it ( it being plastic guess it's a manufacturing issue). The long floor attachment came with a long flat rubber insert for something (the schematics don't show where it goes). The crevice tool is quite puny. I had just assumed (my fault) that the power head would have a height adjustment. I had been using a Kenmore Canister for 20 years. So in order to vacuum carpet runners (7 feet long) I have to put a chair on the end or have one of the dogs sit on it, so it doesn't get sucked up. I guess that is a good thing that it has such good suction, better more than less. So far so good, I have not found the noise level that loud, my Kenmore was a lot louder. I have not used the furniture/stair attachment so won't comment on it. It does generate quite a bit of static when in use I guess a little shock now and then isn't that big of a deal. I did not rate the Durability or value for the money, because I don't have a crystal ball saying how long this vacuum will last. During the pandemic you can't always get what you want. I wanted to go to a store and buy a vacuum that I could see, feel and maybe even hear before I bought it. I'm a little fussy. Quiet is very important to me. It quickly became apparent that my only choice was buying online. I'm not exactly sure how I ended up on Prolux's site but I'm so glad I did. There was the vacuum I wanted: canister, quiet, lightweight, bagless, reasonably priced, well reviewed and in stock. An unbelievable sight after sitting at my computer for hours. We needed to replace our old canister vacuum. This one is great…very powerful, easy to maneuver. I especially like the pet brush (our dog is a big-time shedder). The only complaint is that the cord is way too short. I have to move the plug within the same room. But, it is a retractable cord, so that's another plus. I loved this vaccum at first but it stopped sucking up anything after just about 5 months of vaccuming light dirt about 3times a week! It suddenly picks up nothing!! I was careful with it and didn't pick up large or wet stuff and it still stopped sucking. the seals on everything were still clean and brand new and it just doesn't work.Claudia

My Review of Vacuum: First thing to know is that our household has 5 Dogs and 3 Cats. So you can imagine the amount of pet hair we have to deal with all the time. Now, the setup of the vacuum was very easy, and the options to choose from are Brilliant. There are Attachments for every vacuum job in the house. Then, there are 6 – Types of Suction to choose from. The revolving brushes do an incredible job of separating each strand of rug. This allows the vacuum to remove stubborn pet hair easily. One of my Favourite things about the vacuum is the level of the sound it creates, is good and Quiet. The room I had decided to run my test with was the one with the worst amount of hair. No other vacuum I had owned in my 50 years of life was ever able to remove the deeper hair from within that room. This vacuum, not only removed all the pet hair, but I only needed to the one Dust Bag. I had forgotten how nice that rug was, and now it is very clean and elegant once again. All of the pet hair on our couch and chairs were removed with ease. I have never had any actual judgment for any of my prior vacuums before, but this one I take pleasure in using it; I think highly of the options for each different job. There are no jobs that it can not do. I don’t even have to change Attachments to go onto the next room which is Hardwood Flooring, as the options for the rotating brushes are easily turned off. Also, the convenient compact size allowed for easy movement to each room. Over all I can no longer see myself without this vacuum in my life. I had an upright Miele for 10 years and it finally died. Since they do not make uprights any longer, I purchased this with some hesitation. I purchased used, so I expected some wear and dirt, but this thing was filthy. There were no bags (one bag wouldve been nice). I had to use a shop vac to clean the inside of the canister because it looked like a bag exploded in there. Then, I had make a trip to a specialty vacuum store to buy bags. Now, once that was all over, I have to say those Germans know whats up. This is the best vacuum Ive ever owned. I bought this to replace an almost 20 year old Oreck from when Mr. Oreck owned and ran the company. It was a tall bar to clear, but the Meile exceeded expectations. Its heavy and unwieldy, but Im sure Ill get used to that. The suction and carpet fluffing are amazing and made me rethink the need for new carpets in the kids rooms. That can wait a few more years. After spending 2 weeks researching and reading over 300 reviews the cordzero had the best reviews by far. I chose the flex model because it came with 5 attachments and am so glad I did. I’ve had it a week and just love it. Through my excitement to start using it I put the carpet attachment on and did all my tiles in my big house. It wasn’t until I went to change heads that I realised. It did a great job of cleaning the tile but didn’t go over them smoothly as they are textured. I changed to the roller hard floor head and to my surprise it picked up very little. My tiles look and feel so clean. I used to absolutely dread having to lug out my Dyson upright to do my carpets and after using the cordzero I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of dust and dirt it removed from my carpets and rugs. I love how it manoeuvres well and I can now do under my bed without having to move it. The only negative I have is that I had to empty it frequently but that’s no drama it’s so easy to do. I have 2 dogs and 2 ragdoll cats that used to leave hair and fluff about and I would sweep the floor with a large cloth sweeper although it picked up hair and crumbs I never felt as though the floor was spotless. Overall a mediocre product, one of the few times I’m glad I just didn’t start breaking down the box it came in and trashed it. The main cleaning roller attachment used for daily cleaning isn’t very agile and feels like it’s skipping across both a no to low pile type area carpet and hardwood floors. It’s doesn’t feel like it’s gliding across the floor and pulling dirt and pet hair as it passes by it. As many previous reviewers have indicated wait before you put the stand together and decide if the product is right for your home. The smaller attachment that would be used for furniture is literally useless , hard piece of plastic that oscillates in stead of spins , barley touched cat or dog hair from furniture. Ended up using the main cleaning attachment to do the job, overall versatility is not there clean your car seats or floors. Not exactly pleased at this price point. The only positive I have is 2 batteries , and a simple on off button beyond that I have nothing else to offer. There is a reason it’s only garnered a 4.5 rating overall , I’ve given it a 3 where I believe this product truly should be and boxing it back up.LG12054

My friend recommended this LG CodeZero vacuum when I got pregnant, and oh wow, it's such a life saver. (I used to own a corded vacuum cleaner and while it was high quality, it was always challenging to motivate myself to vacuum as often as I wanted, because it was heavy and such a hassle to run the vacuum cleaner!) You don't need to bend down to plug the vacuum and haul the heavy vacuum cleaner with tangling cords anymore. It's so convenient to go cordless. The turbo mode of this vacuum is super powerful and it sucks up the debris pretty well even from our carpeted area. Works great on our hardwood floor as well. Batteries die quickly if you do turbo mode though, but they stay reasonably long enough when you just do the regular cleaning mode. One thing I'd wish I had considered is the auto-emptying function. It's actually quite burdensome to empty the bin every now and then because all the dust flies around. I wish I had bought the more expensive version that takes care of that. I love my new Vacmaster Beast! It has great suction and is lightweight and easy for me to handle. When I tried it for the first time earlier today I was just going to do the rug on my front step. Well, it was so great I just kept on going! I did my front step, my garage floor, my car trunk so far. This little vacuum is more powerful than I expected. It is so easy to operate and convenient to manoeuvre while using. I detailed my vehicle with it and was able to get into areas that a regular vacuum cleaner could not reach. I have dogs and this little vacuum was so powerful that it sucked up all of the pet hair in my vehicle. I was completely impressed worth its performance. The 3 different attachments that came with the unit made using it on different areas in my vehicle terrific. I was able to use the brush head for the dash and vents in order to remove dust and debris, the flat head attachment for larger areas for faster removal of debris and the narrow attachment in order to get into tighter areas such as in between and underneath the seats. And emptying it was so easy, it just took a simple twist of the canister and I was able to empty it with absolute ease. When I told my husband that I was getting the Shark® – IZ862H Stratos™ Clean Sense IQ, Cordless MultiFLEX® Vacuum with DuoClean® PowerFins™, HairPro™, Clean Sense IQ, and Odor Neutralizer Technology, he said, “What? Another vacuum cleaner?” We do have several vacuum cleaners. I told him that this was different. This was going to be our first full-sized, cordless vacuum that could double as a handheld with attachments, and had a HEPA filter. We love our little cordless handhelds, which are great for quick clean-ups. But we end up using them for much more than they were meant to do, like vacuuming the whole kitchen floor. It is kind of stupid to be bending over and sweeping back and forth with a little handheld, just because you don’t want to drag out the clunky, corded, ‘big’ vacuum cleaner (even though it does a much better job). So, when the Stratos arrived, I couldn’t wait to get it out of the box and plug in the charger to charge the vacuum’s large lithium battery. I assumed (correctly) that the battery takes a few hours to fully charge, so in the meantime, I got out the Quick Start Guide and laid out the components, which consist of the Handheld Vacuum, the Removeable Lithium Battery, the MultiFLEX Wand, the DuoClean PowerFins Floor Nozzle, and the accessories, which consist of the Li-ion Charger, the Odor Neutralizer Technology Cartridge, a Duster Crevice Tool and a Multi-Angle Dusting Brush. I immediately plugged the charger into the battery and plugged the charger into a wall outlet. The Quick Start Guide is very brief, so I scanned the QR code at the top of the Quick Start Guide page to get the URL (web address) where the full Owner’s Guide is located and downloaded it. I then proceeded to setup the unit by inserting the Wand securely into the Floor Nozzle and then inserted the Handheld Vacuum into the top of the Wand, ensuring a tight fit. As per instructions, I removed the Odor Neutralizer Cartridge from its packaging, flipped up its dial handle and aligned the teal-colored arrow on cartridge with the matching teal arrow on the Floor Nozzle and inserted it into the receptacle and rotated until it clicked and engaged. You can rotate the cartridge to change the intensity of the fragrance. Put together, the unit is very sleek, attractive and thoughtfully designed. The parts fit extremely well. The overall weight of the assembled unit is easily managed. Finally, the battery was fully charged. I clicked it into its receptacle on the back of the Handheld Vacuum and excitedly pressed the power button. The Stratos started, sounding powerful, but not too loud. There are three settings, which you can change with the ‘propeller” button at the top of the unit – ECO, Clean Sense IQ, and Boost. It defaults to Clean Sense IQ and that is the setting on which I left it. I started in our combination Living Room / Dining Room. The Stratos did a great job on our carpet. The Clean Sense IQ function worked well, adding more power when ‘heavy’ dirt was encountered, which you can see visually on the display on the top of the DuoClean Floor nozzle. I was so pleased to find that with the low profile of the DuoClean Floor Nozzle and the flexibility of the MultiFLEX Wand, I was easily able to get under the low opening of our couch and all the way to the back. Also, I didn’t have to move all the furniture at the dining room table, because I had no problem vacuuming under the the low bars of our dining room chairs, saving me much heavy work. The swivel of the DuoClean floor nozzle also allowed me to go around the tight corners of the table’s legs with ease. By the time I was done with that large area, I had only used 10% of total battery power and was at 90%. So then, I did the foyer and the kitchen, which brought it down to 80%. Then I decided to remove the Handheld Vacuum from the unit and inserted the Multi-Angle Dusting Brush for some dusting. This brush attachment is my dream design. It covers a relatively large, flat surface area, but with a narrow, very low profile and very soft brushes. It is perfect for getting under low profile items such as the openings at the base of my table lamps and getting under the TV’s to those previously unreachable areas. The attachment also swivels, so it makes it very easy to get around items that previously had to picked up and moved out of the way. I am in love with this brush! After dusting all the top and bottom shelves of my two end tables and of my sofa table, and dusting my Living Room TV stand, my fireplace mantle, my Dining Room sideboard and table, I proceeded to vacuum the whole outer stringer of my staircase. The battery was still only down to 60%, but by now, the Dust Cup was very full. My husband, who was thrilled that I was so excited about using the Stratos, volunteered to empty the Dust Cup. This is my third Shark vacuum but my first cordless model and I have to say I am just as impressed with this as I was with my previous corded model. The Stratos comes with one battery which had a partial charge out of the box and required charging before my first use. The battery is rated for 60 minutes however, this is measured using as a hand vac in “eco” mode. I found using the brush roll in “Clean Sense IQ” mode which is the default, I averaged about 30-40 minutes of actual run time which was more than enough to clean my home. There is a digital display on the handle that shows the battery level. For the price though, I would have liked to see a second battery. The Stratos has three modes, Eco, Clean Sense IQ and boost. I have to say while it's been effective, the Clean Sense mode is a bit disconcerting as it continuously adjusts the vacuum speed while you are using it. You can see via a light strip on the brush head how much dirt the unit is sensing as you are cleaning. I’ve noticed with frequent use this does level out a bit from the first time I used it to clean with. The Eco mode worked well on my hardwood floors while still easily picking up wafts of dog hair. I really like the two brush roll system Shark has been using for a while now. The Stratos has a self-cleaning system that keeps the brushes from getting clogged with hair and I can say with three shedding dogs, it works great. I also like that you don't get the snow plowing when picking up larger piles of debris, it just pulls it in and sucks it up. The brush head has LED headlights that work well for seeing under furniture which is easily accomplished by the flexible wand. The airflow (suction) of the Stratos is excellent, even in Eco mode – picking up everything. I also like the odor neutralizer feature which is a small scent cartridge on the brush head. You can adjust the strength of the scent and I find that even on the lowest setting it adds a nice amount and isn't overpowering like some deodorizers can be. Like most if not all new vacuum cleaners, the Stratos is bagless. The dust cup is easy to empty – just remove the brush head wand and press the lever to open it. The conical shape of the metal filter inside allows the hair to slide off easily and I didnt have to put my hands in the cup to get it totally empty like my older Shark. There are three reusable filters as well. The Stratos comes with two attachments, a crevice tool with the sliding brush and dusting brush allowing it to be used like a giant dust buster. It works well. Overall I like the Shark Stratos Cordless, I think it stands up to it’s more expensive competition and would recommend it.RonH

The new Shark Stratos Cordless Vacuum with Clean Sense IQ debuts, and comparing it to another Shark stick vacuum, this model does it all. From the "air freshener," you can install on the head of the vacuum to the dust container, the vacuum features the same attachable cleaning heads but with a new feature that is a game changer. The new feature is the option to unlock the "under furniture" mode, where the vacuum bends and glides underneath beds, dressers, you name it; to vacuum those hard-to-reach places (without having to get on the floor). Pros: Motor Modes "Under-Furniture" Feature Brighter LED headlight Room Refreshing Pod Ease of Use Cons: Charging indicator Cleansense IQ Knowing that Shark continued their successful self-cleaning brush roll stick vacuum heads that did not get tangled with hair was a breath of fresh air. With the three dogs I have in my home with long hair (that seemingly falls out everywhere), the Shark Stratos' self-cleaning brush roll was able to vacuum everything on the lowest motor mode without hair tangling (or getting caught). However, if you are unsatisfied with the power the Shark consumes, you can turn down the motor to conserve battery and vacuum longer in "eco" mode. Though, when I used eco mode, I had to go over several spots again due to the suction not being as powerful. Yes, I received a longer charge (roughly forty minutes), but I had to vacuum the same spots often due to fine dog hair still on the floor. There is a "high" power mode that vacuumed dust and debris off of my floor (you could see dust being removed,) but the battery drained in twenty minutes of use. The best and most consistent mode I found was using the vacuum as its intended mode when you first turn it on. Speaking of turning the vacuum on, the Shark Stratos displays an LED battery life indicator right on the base of the vacuum. The battery life indicator made it easier for me to see how much power I had left compared to previous models. Additionally, the much brighter (than previous models) LED head illuminates the floors to reveal more debris, hair, and dust that I could not see well before. One of the strongest features is the new MultiFlex wand technology, which allows you to bend the wand at a 90-degree angle and vacuum underneath furniture. The ease of pressing the "lock" button on the vacuum wand and bending the vacuum made the transition from upright to floor easier. While turning on the highest motor mode, I saw dust lift off the floor, and I placed the vacuum underneath a dresser and bed without having to get down on the floor. Also, when you finish vacuuming under your furniture, you snap the vacuum back into place to continue vacuuming at an upright angle. The Shark Stratos includes two detachable heads to vacuum in hard-to-reach corners as well as surfaces. These are the same heads on previous Shark models, but with the motor control (on the highest setting), I collected more dust on surfaces such as furniture and entertainment furniture (such as speakers). Shark continued to provide an easy trap door to empty contaminant containers (after you vacuum), and the new "pod" room refreshing technology made it easier to exchange used filters. Previously, refresher filters were specifically installed inside the vacuum base. However, the new pod twists to lock or unlock, thus making it easier to exchange used room refresher filters. With all the features, including the new LED battery-life indicator, the vacuum does not utilize that display to show you what percentage of the charged battery when plugged in for charging. However, ambient light on the side of the vacuum flashes to indicate the vacuum is charging. What Shark should have done was utilize the LED display to show you what percentage the vacuum is at (charging-wise). The new Clean Sense IQ technology on the Shark Stratos is novel on paper. Yet, I saw it fail on the hardwood floors of my home. The light indicator on the head of the vacuum will increase sensitivity and suction when it detects a lot of debris on the floor. However, when I vacuumed back and forth in the sensitive spot on my floors, the IQ sensor would turn off immediately. The point of the IQ sensor is to increase power and notice when it detects debris, but I found that sensor to activate when nothing was present on the floor. Although not a deal breaker for the Shark Stratos stick vacuum, the technology idea of sensing dirtier floors and visually telling you when the floor area is clean (with the light indicator) misses it for me when it turns on and off at-will. Overall, the Shark Stratos Cordless IQ Sensing technology vacuum is a new, improved, and added technology. Obviously you're not going to connect your mitre saw to this.. but I've used it to follow along by a multi cutter on plasterboard and under holes I drilled and it coped. You pretty much have to use it with the fine nozzle but this type of vac to me is for when you think "I have to get the vacuum out… just for that!!" Lint in a corner, crumbs on the counter.. otherwise.. you'll make the effort and get the big guns. It runs for long enough and makes sure my batteries get used regularly (good for them I think??) I'd say whenever you get the main vac out clean the filter on this, using a fork to clean out the pleats helps. It can be tricky to empty. But I needed a little grab and go vac and I was pleased to find one that has a battery I can use in my tools. Unlike some Bosch 10.8 (jigsaw) it's lightweight but functions.. I'd buy for 50 or less.sash_doctor

While this small ash vac works pretty well, the hose is too stiff, making it somewhat awkward to use in tight spots, and storing it is a pain. It should really have a vac bag in it too I think, since just opening it to check the fill level, or to empty it creates a mess when the particles fall off the cloth pre filter. Also I don't care for the way the hose attaches to the canister…a rubber hose end is pretty weeny for the money spent on this vac. Why not include a twist lock hose connection like bigger ash vacs have? It does make quick work of cleaning the pellet stove though. I guess I just like the commercial soot vac I use in my business better.Ecdoesit

Excellent product – works like a charm. If I HAD to complain about one thing, it's pretty darn noisy to use. But vacuum suction is off the charts. Highly recommend you get the accessory tool kit for pellet stove cleaning. I wouldn't own a pellet stove without this vacuum!JSBaumann

We purchased a ash vacuum cleaner for our pellet stone because of the advice of a friend. He said that he used a Loveless Ash vacuum and was well pleased with it. We decided to buy the vacuum and found a great deal on it!! We were are very happy with the low cost and how quick it was delivered to us, but nothing could compare with our overall pleasure with the product itself. Anyone that has a pellet stove know that these stoves are a nightmare and pain to clean by hand because of the many parts that are involved with the cleaning of the stove, you have to shovel all the ash out, clean a burned pot(us house wives hate that), air the inlet chambers, and wait for our husbands to do the rest, this list could go on and on. This vacuum has really made cleaning our stove a simple chore! Thanks!!chels
