Best Vacuum For Long Hair Dogs (2023 Update)

Out of the box, the vacuum was great. Sucked up everything. Within a month, it was basically a glorified hand vacuum. The only way I can get it to do anything is to use remove the hose and the attachments. The actual suction when using it upright is terrible. It vibrates like a dolphining F1 race car, makes a hideous popping and hissing sound from the side, and worst of all, leaves fuzz, dirt , and giant hard balls of lint all over my floors rather than actually cleaning them. Using this vacuum is more work than simply using a broom and a hand held dirt Devil. Customer service was helpful in trying to fix the issues but the suggested solve didn't work. It does quality performing for pet hair to include the turbo extension tool for upholstery. DO READ ALL the instructions so you know how to properly use it. Don't assume! The tools are ill placed with the placement and storage of the electrical cord (always falling off). The telescope for the hose to attachments doesn't lock properly and always ALWAYS pushing back in. I don't have an issue with pet hair on the roller getting stuck, but I do with human hair and any amount of length to trash. The spot where the hose connects to the canister is constantly getting clogged because it is small and narrow, needs to be wider. Pay CLOSE attention when taking the filter out of the canister and putting it back; there is a reason it is meticulously marked. The alignment must be perfect or it won't go back together properly; this is the same for everything on the vacuum. Hard to push when vacuuming (hence one of the reasons I said to read instructions carefully)? You have to provide some air to release the amount of suction, so it moves easier with the little knob on the left; by the way, it moves also on its own.feltermail

Within 1 minute of its' first use this model #2475 Pet Hair Eraser Turbo had its' brush roll stop spinning before a small 10×10 foot area was complete. The belt assembly is centre mounted so debris from both sides of the brush roll collects towards its' centralized belt motor which sits open with nothing to protect it from debris. This results in it being the furthest thing from the "tangle free" unit it is advertised as. Removal of the head screws holding the bottom cover in place is quite easy so I was able to see what was causing the jam (see picture attached). The manufacturer claims the unit can accept hair length of 4-8 inches. The longest of the hairs in this pictures is 3 inches, so the job in question should have been well within the manufacturer's guidelines. Upon reassembling the base the unit promptly got jammed a second time. After once again removing the clog I decided to give it a different task, cleaning hardwood. This unit has a key feature for those with hardwood floors, its' brush can turn on/off, saving your hardwood from being scratched by the roller. Sadly there is very little suction (see video attached). I found without the brush roll spinning the machine picks up essentially nothing. The last major feature this unit is its' heavily marked "pet hair eraser" attachments. The Pet Turbo Eraser" is nothing more than the same "turbo brush" or "handi-mate" that has been commonplace on vacuum's since the 1950's. The "two in one" pet brush is a traditional fabric brush as is the crevice tool. There is nothing fundamentally different with these attachments than what is industry standard from most vacuum suppliers. I've had Bissell units before, the last being the significantly cheaper "Clearview Alergen Lift-Off Pet Upright Vaccuum." It lasted 2 years before dying a few weeks after its warranty expired precipitating the purchase of this Turbo model. All in all a poor vacuum. Don't buy this.Jimmy

So I've owned a Ball Animal 2 for about 3 yrs and have had a love/hate relationship with it. And having owned the Ball Animal 3 for almost a month now, I can honestly say I still have a love/hate relationship with this brand. I purchased the Animal 3 because I was glad to finally see that Dyson opted to change the Cleaning Head to what the UK variant has had for awhile now, which is having a carpet height selector. Now I really have to say that the Animal 3 has so much better suction with having the carpet height selector, but that also has a negative that I've found. I find it very difficult to turn now compared to the Animal 2 which turned on a dime. I will for sure keep it as I don't want to jump through the hoops of returning it, but I don't believe I will be making any future Dyson vacuum purchases in the future after this experience. The cost of these vacuums is very much on the high side and with that you would expect that they would do their own inhouse study/testing and they seem to have failed at this. In the end it basically comes down to the fact that the negatives outweigh the positives when compared to what you expect when making such an expensive purchase. Yes the suction is probably the best you'll ever have with any vacuum on the market BUT with negative costs. Being a "BALL" vacuum and unlike the Animal 2 that could turn easily, this thing is a major struggle to turn… NOT GOOD! The Animal 3 also has the same issues like the Animal 2 in that trying to use the hose is a chore on it's own. The suction is just so strong that you basically need to have the vacuum right next you or end up having to do things like… prop the vacuum around the corner of a wall and then stretch out the hose while also having some decent arm and upper body strength to do so with even minimal comfort. The "Cyclone" portion of the vacuum is a very poor design. Due to a common static charge while vacuuming, it allows for dust to build up in massive clumps within the Cyclone piece. You need to constantly bang the heck out of this piece while over a trash can in order to keep it even somewhat clean. And they don't make it so the Cyclone can be easily disassembled for cleaning which is a huge disappointment and failure within it's design. I also find it upsetting that even though Dyson offers a TON of accessories for these upright models… they don't offer one of the most common of accessories… a basic dusting brush! Yes it comes with a combo tool for crevice and dusting. They even offer a wide variety of other dusting attachments… ones that can twist for angled dusting, one that can bend etc etc… but then not your basic common everyday short dusting brush that's found on 99.9% of vacuums since they were invented. Really boggles my mind. No lie… since I still have the Animal 2, I took the combo tool from that one and ended up cutting off basically 80% of the crevice tool portion to make my own "basic short dusting brush!". Dyson if your listening: You should have listened to your customer base and address the issue with the hose being difficult to use. I'm sure there has to be a solution… maybe a hose that's not as stiff? Look into my "home modification" of the basic short dusting brush and release a factory version. And please look into the problem of the Animal 3 being so much harder to turn compared to the Animal 2.MotionMan

Dyson products seem to always be ones made to delight. I really enjoyed this vacuum which is an upgrade for my family over a Dyson – Cinetic Big Ball Animal Bagless Upright Vacuum – Iron/Purple that purchased from Best Buy 6 years ago. 6 years later and Dyson's vacuums are still amazing, this one has strong suction that you expect from the name and is somewhat smaller and more compact that the predecessor. I think it runs quieter too although I have not used the deicbel app to compare quantitatively. The smaller size means that there are spots in the corners and around furniture that are now easier to vacuum than before but the head itself sits taller, tall enough that I can no longer vacuum underneath the chairs and couches. The reason for the change in headsize is actually the main draw of this vacuum — the head has been completely redesigned so as to prevent the bunching of pet hair within the bristles. As we have a dog and two cats sharing the house with us, this has been a pain point in the past. Even our dysons need to be taken apart and cleaned of fur at least every 6 weeks so that they continue to run smooth. The early results from a weekend of vaccuming are very promising: the bristles are still out-of-the-box new despite several passes over our house that had gone embarrasingly long between vacuums prior delivery of a new machine. I'm hopeful that this is another part of cleaning that Dyson has made slightly easier.BostonBru

My experience with this rendition of their Ball design bears that out, and I've been largely pleased with it. The Animal version of the Ball is marketed specifically at people with pets, to clean up the hair from carpets and furniture. I find it's also handy if you or the people you live with have long hair. In general, it cleans quite well. It has very powerful suction and the power bar base has three settings for deep pile carpet, normal carpet, and hard floors. The power bar itself can also be toggled on and off. I found it cleaned my carpets quite well, though cleaning my hardwood left a little to be desired ( the instruction manual recommends turning the power bar off for this, I'm not sure why ). It also has a very generous cord length. And though Dyson created the Ball design specifically to make it easier to steer the vacuum around corners and obstacles, I find it much stiffer to turn than other current swivel head vacuums. I appreciate Dyson's design in the vacuum. It's fairly modular, making it relatively easy to service and maintain yourself, provided you can get a replacement part. The filters are washable so you can reuse them instead of constantly buying new replacements. It also keeps things slim and trim so the vacuum is a little more compact than other full-size uprights. This particular model also comes with two extra attachment tools. One is an upholstery brush/cleaner, the other is a pet grooming tool that's supposed to suck up the shedded hair as you brush. How well your pet will handle being brushed near a vacuum remains to be seen. But sometimes I think it tries to be too clever. It uses a friction snap instead of a pedal to release the vertical lock. It's usually fine, but it also means you can accidentally release the upright lock when you don't want to, like if you want to tilt the vacuum back and roll it somewhere or even if you pick it up and then set it down. The extension wand is stored inside the hose in the main column. This is nice for reducing the exterior dimensions, but it also means you have to unwind the entire cord and slide out the entire wand when you want to do some quick spot cleaning. You can detach the wand from the hose if you don't need or want the reach, like in a small corner or nook, but in those moments where you just want to quickly clean up some cookie crumbs or dust bunnies, it's more involved than you might be used to. The main handle is also reversed to accommodate the extension wand, putting the main column below your hand instead of above it when you're using the vacuum. This means the vacuum tilts back farther than others when using it. For myself, I found my legs and knees bumped into main unit a lot since it was now leaning more toward me. Most of these complaints are small quirks, admittedly. They may or may not matter to you. All in all, it's a well built vacuum, it cleans well, and it stores easily. It does have a few quirks and the "exhaust" air is quite hot, but these are minor complaints on an otherwise great vacuum.Jaron

Not sure yet how to rate this vacuum. I recently bought this model as a replacement for model nv681. I like the features of the Shark vacuum, but it didn't last the full 5 years. It began literally falling apart after about 4 and one half years. The brush roller is literally hanging on by a thread. I hope the new one holds up better and longer that my first one, and performs at least as well as the first model. Also the customer service for Shark needs much improvement. When I called to get some answers, I got a major run around. There is no one to talk to when trying to get answers about problems. I would recommend this vacuum with reservations.Rita

I am a vacuuming obsessed weirdo! I just love to vacuum for some reason. I love the before and after and love the feeling of having a nice clean floor. That being said I tried out all kinds of other vacuums while never really finding one that was great until I bought this vacuum. It's got everything I wanted in a vacuum! I should have known to stick with Shark because I have an old lift away professional that I've had for well over 10 years!. It's even still going strong after all the abuse I've put it through but it's just time for a new one. Only reason I tried switching brands is because the upright sharks are quite heavy and I now have stairs in my place that are hard to clean witha a heavy uptight.. After multiple failures with other popular brands I found this one that converts into a canister vac making it much lighter to use on stairs. I'm in love with this thing. It works so well and it's super powerful with all the bells and whistles that I could ask for. The LED lighting on the pull out wand is a huge plus! Lights up anything I'm trying to vacuum. I vacuumed my bedroom soon as I got it right after vacuuming with a popular Eureka that I had previously bought and it was amazing what this vacuum picked up that was left behind by the Eureka. We bought this 3 years ago and the hose split along the ridges. We use it less then the recommended cleaning regimen that carpet manufacturers recommend (daily). Shark claims it's not under the 7 year warranty because we sweep to much.

If your product can't hold up to reasonable use then it's worthless and I'm taking my business elsewhere.

I also find all the nooks and crannies this vacuum has hard to keep clean (canister, wand attachment for furniture top guard thing)

Replacement parts are unreasonably priced with the company's less then expected life expectancy.Patient Farmer

I LOVE DYSON. It’s been a love affair for @15 or so years. I had the V-6 and made an excuse that college child needed so I could get the V-11animal. No one in my house were allowed to use. It WAS my baby – empty nester at the time. I bought it shortly after it first came out so it has the screwed in battery. I needed a cordless vacuum that was able to pick up Belgian Malinois Shepard fur from H _ _ _, easy to use, lighter than a full vacuum BUT WORK AS WELL OR BETTER than a full-size – I have chronic back pain and fibromyalgia and numbness… Yes in my crazy perfect vacuum dream world this existed and it DID! Thanks Dyson! It checked EVERY box of my needs, well except price. It was the most I have ever spent on something for me but dang it I deserved it and NEEDED it. It has been absolutely incredible! I would have told you 2 years ago do whatever you need to and buy bc it has incredible suction, awesome holders for tools with wall mount and on pole, adjustable suction on torque floor tool, adjust able power – Eco for low dirt area, Auto and Boost for deeper and stronger suction. So those are PROS. CONS are you need to press trigger to power it so with my neuropathy in hands at times I cannot vac, need to remove any attachments to empty dirt bin, after @8-12 months the bin empty slide started to stick, and then at 2 years (WARRANTY EXPIRED) and @5 months it started to shut off and then turn on. Called customer support and and they did a video troubleshoot and said it’s the battery. Well no battery in stock. Actually ABSOLUTELY ZERO SPARE PARTS for my baby have been in stock for over a month now! A week or so later it stopped more and then shut down. Called again and told it was the cyclone part (a guy on YouTube had same exact issue but his warranty was still active) BUT NO PART available. He told me to call or go to my nearest Dyson service center. Well the nearest in @1.25hrs. away. I do not have a car – getting divorced so I took my Dyson V11 animal and he got our 25 y/o car worth about the same. He fought for my V11 which was honestly a no win – I don’t know what he was thinking. Lol Plus the service center when I finally reached a person said that maybe it’s the trigger and I could mail it in. I still haven’t decided bc why pay to ship something that there’s no parts for? I rarely ever leave reviews but this thing is great! This is my first Dyson purchase and I have a German Shepard mix who sheds constantly, this V11 handles his hair with ease. I love the flexibility to use it anywhere with the attachments that are included, my personal favorite is the mini motorized tool. The simple design makes it easy to clean and maintenance. This thing picks up dirt that you don’t even see, especially in carpets and area rugs. I am also one who cares about packaging and this thing is packaged perfectly. The only downside, like all electronics is the battery life. 5 to 6 minutes on boost mode is not enough for a vacuum of this cost. I would like to see Dyson sell an additional king power cord that can be used to power the vacuum directly more like a traditional vacuum if needed for those of us with bigger houses with lots of carpeted areas.Jxustin

After reading these reviews I can't help but think that these machines are designed to last for roughly 2.5 years. My machine did the exact same thing that others have written about. I purchased this machine back in January 2020, about a month ago it started cutting off during use. The cutting off started getting more frequently to the point where the machine stays on for about 2 seconds before cutting off which makes it inoperable. So I call the service center to be told that my machine is out of warranty as of January 2022 and a replacement motor will cost $116. It is really unfortunate that a $700 machine is designed to last 2.5 years before you have to put more money into it. The sad part about it is that most people will pay the $116 because you can not get a new decent vac for that price and secondly, you have already invested $700 in this machine. It is very disheartening, and I wish I would have went with a different brand.Trise

Shark Rocket Pro Corded Stick Vacuum is light weight & really easy to remove the canister from the stick stick. Glides nicely over our entire house which has mostly wood floors and tile, but did well on multiple rugs with different pile heights. It even comes with attachments to clean the stairs, furniture or our SUV & truck. We had a different cordless one but needed a vacuum we didn’t have to worry about running out of battery 1/2 way through our home. The cord is super long so that helps us from having to re-plug every few feet. The dust compartment is simple to empty and clean out with a press of a button. We have 2 dogs and 4 kids so we’re constantly vacuuming, the power is awesome and it’s convenient to easily unload the debris. It’s lightweight too, so it’s easy for me to move around the house without it being a hassle. There is a little downside to it, which is that it doesn’t stand on its own, so you’ll have to either prop it on something or fold it (which is easy) in order to do something else if needed while vacuuming. So I’m taking it down a star for that since I do have to stop and pick up toys etc having kids & pets constantly playing.Heathermthomas

The Shark Rocket Pro, picks up VERY well. The area I first vacuumed with it, was a area that had been vacuumed the day before. Within five minutes, the Shark had picked up A LOT more. The vacuum was easy to assemble and the attachment comes apart easily to be able to vacuum the ceiling and other had to get to areas. The Shark glides across any floor easily and turns easily. The only drawback I found with this Shark machine was the motor was near the top of the handle and it made the machine top heavy. It doesn’t stand on it’s own. There are two small attachments that didn’t have anywhere to attach to the machine, that I could find. But, as well as this machine works, I find these to be minor problems. As you can see from the photo, it picked up quite a bit after only a five minute vacuum. I have animals and cleaning hair has always been a problem.adcatex6

This Shark Rocket Pro Corded Stick Vacuum works GREAT ! I really like how light weight it is, I can very easily maneuver it around the house with little effort and let me say how GREAT it picks up all the dirt and debris from my floors. My carpets are much cleaner/fluffy and my hardwood floors are cleaned better than when I sweep. I am very excited and satisfied at how much debris/hair/dust/dirt was in the debris container. This vacuum has PLENTY of attachments that I can use on my stairs and I'll even be cleaning my curtains and window seals. As small as this vacuum is, is does the job QUICKLY and very EFFECTIVELY, much much better than my current canister vacuum. This Shark Rocket Pro Corded Stick Vacuum is much quieter and very stronger in terms of suction than ANY vacuum I've ever owned. I went from 45 minutes of vacuuming to 15 minutes, WHAT A GREAT IMPROVEMENT ! Overall, I would HIGHLY recommend the Shark Rocket Pro Corded Stick Vacuum if you want clean floors with little effort AND multiple attachments that can simplify and clean the most hard to reach places and other areas.liljayp

So after my other vacuum I had for a long time, even went with a family of 6 over seas when I was active duty military finally dies. We decided that we would try a Dyson, so we went with the Dyson Ball Animal 2. Honestly my kids (16-24yo) and wife usually do most of the vacuuming so they used it for the first few months and when the kids complained about the quality I thought they just didn’t want to vacuum. Finally I decided to try it for myself and I quickly agreed with their opinions. Here are some of the issues we as a family decided to put in this review. 1. For a vacuum that cost more then my first car it should have a light on it to help see in the darker areas of the house. 2. When you lock the handle to the upright position it is made with plastic and feels like it is going to break every time. 3. The extension hose has to be pulled out the full length so to do stairs or other angles are very difficult. 4. When trying to roll the vacuum on the back two wheels any little bump knocks it out of the lock position. In our opinion this unit was cheaply made and not worth the money. Will not invest in or recommend a Dyson. Wow, as I am completing this review the last question it asks me is “I received a product for free to help facilitate my review.” and the only option is “Yes.” We did not receive anything for free, we paid $499.99 plus tax for this vacuum out of our money.MSgt Robert V

I would give this vacuum less than 1 star if possible. I had my previous Dyson Vacuum for 10 years before it died on me. It was a great product. Based off than experience I decided the money was worth it to invest in another Dyson Vacuum so I purchased the Dyson Ball Animal 2 (1/25/2020). After owning it for just about 1 year month I was already having problems. I would turn the vacuum on and there would be a burning smell and a grinding noise. There is a black mechanism that divides the left and right rollers. On that mechanism there is black plastic pieces that protrude. The roller slides right on to these. The plastic appears to have melted causing the black plastic protruding piece to completely detach. This then makes it so that the roller no longer spins and the black protruding piece is broken and separated from the part that spins. After going through all of the troubleshooting Dyson sent me a new head to the vacuum (1/23/2021). At this point I had own the vacuum almost exactly a year. I thought, hey this kind of stuff happens, no big deal. Everything was fixed in a little less than 2 weeks and I was good. Then the same thing happened again on 10/23/2021. The black plastic protruding piece melted again which made the vacuum unusable. Frustratingly, Dyson had NO record of my previous issue even though I have email proof which allows me to provide the exact date of 1/23/2021. I was going through this again 9 months later. This time (due to shipping delays) it took 2 months for me to have my vacuum back and working again. Once again, I was given a new head to the vacuum. Now, 3/12/2022 I am going through the same issue again for a 3rd time. The black plastic protruding piece seams to have melted again! I am now having to mail the entire vacuum in and hopefully will get it back fixed within 14 days. I was beyond frustrated and the person on the phone said that all they could do is send it in to get repaired or give me 20% off another Dyson purchase. I have now owned this vacuum for a little over 2 years. Assuming I get the current issues fixed within 14 days the vacuum will have spent about 4 months of time being repair or waiting for replacement parts. In other words, inoperable. It is only my wife and I that used the vacuum. My children to not touch it. Also keep in mind that I take very good care of the vacuum. With all of the issues we have had with this vacuum I am very diligent in cleaning the hair and other stuff out of the rollers after every use. I vacuum the entire house every Saturday which is about 3000 sq/ft and mostly carpet. Can this vacuum not handle that kind of usage at a single time? It appears that it cannot although our older Dyson vacuum could do it just fine. I believe I spent somewhere between $600-$700 dollars on the vacuum. That is a vary big purchase price for something that keeps breaking down. I fear that I will continue to go through this because the Dyson Ball Animal 2 is poorly designed. I do not want to continue going through this until the warranty runs out and then be forced to get something new at my expense. I pay that much money for quality which means that I expect to use this vacuum for many years. I guess for now I will wait on my vacuum to return and fixed for a 3rd time and keep my figures crossed. Ideally I would be willing to get some of my money back from purchasing this vacuum and use it to buy a different model Dyson. Yes, I would be willing to give Dyson ONE more chance with a different model. Just offering me a 20% discount on a new vacuum is not going to cut it when in just 2 years I have had some many issues after spending hundreds of dollars on a vacuum that promises quality. I have been a lifelong user of Dyson vacuums from the very earliest days. I have always thought that they are the best. Sad to say that after 2 years of use I cannot say that about the Animal 2. Just for the record we also have the Dyson V6 Animal which my wife uses because of her Rheumatoid Arthritis. Once a week I will do the heavy duty, top to bottom house clean with the Animal 2. And I don't look forward to it at all. First of all the positives: 1. Fantastic suction 2. I use all of the heads that can be attached to the hose and are excellent for getting into the difficult spots. The negatives: 1. This is a heavy machine. Now I keep myself fit but you get a workout from this machine. Because it is heavy it is not the most manoeuvrable. Somebody like my wife who has RA can forget about using this for more than a minute or two. 2. When using it with the hose when the accessories are attached, the machine does not follow easily and more often than not tips over. It is shocking for doing that. I wouldn't even contemplate using it for the stairs. 3. The hose may be lighter than previous models but honestly does not feel as robust. But so far it has stood two years worth of use. 4. The power cable is sadly far inferior to previous models. It is of cheaper quality and easily gets entangled around the wheels of the vacuum when using the hose and even when using it without the hose. It may be a longer hose (I think) but it gets tangled so easily. All in all, this is one of the worst Dyson's we have had.Andy

This unit has a key feature for those with hardwood floors, its' brush can turn on/off, saving your hardwood from being scratched by the roller. Sadly there is very little suction (see video attached). I found without the brush roll spinning the machine picks up essentially nothing. The last major feature this unit is its' heavily marked "pet hair eraser" attachments. The Pet Turbo Eraser" is nothing more than the same "turbo brush" or "handi-mate" that has been commonplace on vacuum's since the 1950's. The "two in one" pet brush is a traditional fabric brush as is the crevice tool. There is nothing fundamentally different with these attachments than what is industry standard from most vacuum suppliers. I've had Bissell units before, the last being the significantly cheaper "Clearview Alergen Lift-Off Pet Upright Vaccuum." It lasted 2 years before dying a few weeks after its warranty expired precipitating the purchase of this Turbo model. All in all a poor vacuum. Don't buy this.Jimmy

The charger wire insulation is too stiff & made of some kind of vinyl/inflexible plastic which seems inflexible & eventually splits & uncovers the very thin wires next to the 3 prong plug body, which can then pull away.We have had 5 batteries with the older model & note this new one is the same. They all become split eventually. Needs to be a rubberised material instead.Ian

I got a V7 in Jan 2019. Initially, and for about 1.5 yrs., I thoroughly enjoyed it. Then my housecleaner told me a charge didn't last more than 10 mins. Because I have another plug-in vacuum, I didn't think much of it at the time. Then I hired another cleaner. She brought her own vacuum so it hasn't been used at all since Jan 2022. Just in the last week, I tried to use it and it only lasted about 30 seconds. I had a very good experience with the website and service person on the phone but I have been advised that a new battery is necessary. If that is correct, I must say that I am disappointed in Dyson. I expected better performance from their machine. For a machine that is 3 1/2 yrs. old and only used perhaps 2 years of that (and not solely because I have another machine), I think the battery should last longer. And, if the cost of the battery is 1/4 of the price of the machine, I think that is even more disappointing. And, it's the cost of the battery + shipping. My carpenter husband has battery powered tools, uses them consistently and has never had to replace a battery. That knowledge doesn't help me. Is it possible that the charging station is defective? At any rate, as much as I loved it in the beginning, I'm pretty unhappy at present. I recommended my vacuum to lots of friends at first but now, I would have to tell them the whole story and what to expect.Bren

The hype, on this front, is valid. The Bad: However, the well-built central unit is let down by tools and accessories with components made from fragile, heat-molded plastic. Essentially, only the mechanical drive components are made from metal (I think), but everything else is plastic. While Dyson boasts that the main machine body is made from "ABS Polycarbonate" (think: riot shields), the smaller components seem to be made of high-density polyethylene or similar material. Our smaller motorized head unit suffered a breakage in the head-to-guard joint, which should not be the case for a relatively new, seldom used part. The use of brittle plastic in such a high-wear area by the spinning rotor seems at best poor design, at worst planned obsolescence. I understand that full-metal construction is a thing of the past, but "full-plastic" construction is not a viable alternative; some components need to be metal, full stop. The Ugly: Unfortunately, warranty details are misleading as they apparently do not include the tools, and nowhere in the warranty documentation provided was there a distinction between "tools" and the "unit." While I understand that normal wear-and-tear is to be expected and therefore not covered by warranty, I am disappointed with the craftsmanship of a really expensive product that utilizes non-durable heat-molded plastic for high-stress areas, specifically around moving joints. The concern is that having both motorized head units break renders the unit unable to clean carpet or furniture fabric, reducing 90% of its utility, and will cost you ~$200 extra to purchase the new motorized heads. In closing; a great unit overall, but my confidence in the product is let down by the fragility of the core tools and some of the convenient language of the warranty provided. We have a German Shepard that sheds like mad all year long. One could build another dog out of all the fur he sheds! We purchased the Bissell Crosswave a few weeks ago and I am thoroughly impressed. Our area rugs have never been cleaner (they are dark blue so the fur REALLY shows!). And it's so easy and convenient to use. The canister is easy to remove and empty. The wand is easy to take off and use for those nooks and crannies with the slim tool (which has a handy brush that slides up for dusting). Setting the height level while vacuuming works like a dream. With our old vac you had to turn off the vac to adjust the height. It has amazing suction. The power cord is nice and long so you don't have to keep moving it to a different outlet to reach. It's the best vacuum I've ever used on bare floors as well. It doesn't shoot the debris around but actually picks it up! The inside of the canister has removable parts that can be rinsed off as well which is a nice feature as here in Arizona it's very dusty. If I could give more stars, I definitely would!Kaarin

I have a German Shepherd who is very floofy. I narrowed down my choices between the Bissell CleanView® Rewind Pet Vacuum Cleaner ad the Dyson Animal II. I have had 2 Dysons before. The feature that made me decide on the Bissell is that it has an adjustment dial for 5 different brush heights so whatever you are vacuuming can be done effortlessly with just the right amount of suction regardless of the surface – tile, this rug, p[lush carpet etc. I have tile, carpets and rugs. The other strong selling point was the included upholstery attachment, which works like a dream on dog hair. The only thing I feel that could be improved is the length of the electrical cord. I had no idea that my carpets, my floors, my home was THAT bad until I used this incredible cleaning machine! I knew my old vacuum (also a Bissel) was needing replaced, and the suction on it still worked well but it had some other issues so I decided to buy a new vacuum, Boy oh boy am I glad that I did! After vacuuming my no carpeted floors with this vacuum, they looked like I had just mopped them! It picks up pet hair like a pro! I love how the canister opens up at the bottom with just the push of a button, no mess, no fuss! And one of my other favorite features of this vacuum is the self wind up cord! What a time saver and back saver! I get so tired of winding the cord up. Also it makes it easier to bring from room to room without having to trail a cord behind you or get caught up in it! Yes, I love this vacuum! It works so good that if ever the makers of Bissell came to me and asked me to do a commercial for them, not only would I do it, I do it for free! I’ve never in my life owned a Dyson but I finally decided to splurge and I’m glad I did! Here are my first impressions after getting up at the crack of dawn excited to test it out haha! It’s much quieter than I thought which is appreciated for those early morning cleanups after my toddler makes a mess but my older daughter is still sleeping. That laser is amazing but terrible at the same time…holy lord the stuff it was bringing to my attention was wild. I love the attachments and the one that lets you make it a 90 angle to go right under couches and furniture…chefs kiss. The floor dok is also a really nice feature as I don’t really have somewhere to mount it to the wall. It’s definitely heavier than I anticipated it to be. I do find I’m switching arms a lot so for someone who may be older or limited mobility it may be a bit cumbersome. I don’t hate that you have to press the button constantly to keep it on as it’s easier when you need to stop and go, but I do find it a bit awkward and my hand is a touch sore. I had it fully charged and used it for just over an hour and it’s now dead; I accomplished two floors, two sets of stairs and a couch set in that time. I only have hard floors besides two area rugs which are ruggables, and with the laser brush it has to be on eco otherwise it pulls them up. The other head it comes with does not work at all over ruggables. I don’t have any other ‘carpet’ so I cannot speak to its abilities with that. There are so many attachments this model comes with but there’s no where to store them – I would like to see some extra attachments for the floor dok to store them all. All in all though, highly satisfied with my purchase. I feel as though this is a prime example of “pay for what you get”. It’s a hefty price tag but I suspect this will last me years!Lindz02

This vacuum has the best suction and with 2 golden retrievers I need it but here are the cons It’s heavy and you have to hold in the switch to keep it running guessing this is to preserve the battery. All of the weight of the vacuum as at your wrist and hand and while 4.5 lbs doesn’t seem like much as you are holding it and the on button it is very stressful to your arm wrist and hand. When moving from hardwood to shag (I have all hardwood and two 8×10 shag type area rugs) the beater bar stops and the machine quits working even when you stop and move it to the highest setting so it won’t vacuum my area rugsI can’t even hardly push it through the carpet. I can let it and set it down and pull it. . It will do low pile rugs. Then it won’t stand up on its own you have to lean it on something or never stop vacuuming. I can get through most of my house 1400 square foot with the light before it dies or moves to eco. The head does not easily release to use just the end to get into tight spaces or replace with another attachment. The cord for the battery is actually quite short if you’re hoping to plug it in a closet or hide away place. Sleek as it may seem I don’t want a vacuum hanging up as decor so I’m going to have to add a plug somewhere out of sight. The pros are the light and suction provided you can really get every hair and see all dust if your room is not to bright the light really shows everything I turn down the lights to vacuum crazy I will definitely not buy another and totally regret this purchase for the price it really should come with two batteries and be able to vacuum carpet. I’ve spent several hours of research, this is the Best Bang for the Buck. Do yourself a favor, buy it!!! Read the reviews later. I had not “vaccumed” my stairs in over 3 months as my DYSON DC33 died after several years. I did many hours of research and the Shark brands would be up there with Dyson in most comparisons. I was considering the Dyson Animal but it wouldn’t be less than $500, now Dyson is actual on sale for $350. Prior to writing this review after thorough research and also comparing the Shark Apex Duo Clean, I ended up with this one for $229, I was about to buy it for $279 and it won’t on sale next week. Anyhow just see how much dirt it picked up from the stair case. I only did about 7 of them and my dust-bin is super filthy. Although it might not me a fair comparison with the Dyson DC33 (that died) I’m certain it never sucked like this. This is the most powerful vaccum I have ever experienced. Now let’s talk about build quality, the accessories definitely feel inferior in contrast to a Dyson, so I don’t know about the longevity of this. I also did notice lot of reviewers complained about the pole or the main handle that goes behind the vaccum, that also is hollow and feels like it won’t last too long, but it works great I couldn’t be happier. In all honesty you do not need to spend $400-500. Some reviews say the Apex Duo Clean with 2 roller brushes doesn’t pick up as well as this. I have been a shark customer for a very long time. I have the power lift-away from years ago and the things runs like a champ. However, I saw this one and thought WOW no more cutting the dog hair from the wheel and an XL cup will save me so..much..time! I would say overall it's definitely a good vacuum BUT I miss features from my other one that make me sad when I pull this one out of the closet. I do still have the other so I can use both. Pros: Lightweight- for a large vacuum, this is very easy to lift XL Cup- definitely helps when you have 2 very large furry dogs Long Hose-ish- long but doesn't reach like it states Super Sucker- I did think the suction was very good on getting up massive amounts of dog hair (Border Collie/Newfoundland and Great Pyrenees/Aussie mix) Cons: No Lift-Away- Doesn't seem like that big of a deal until you are going up and down the stairs or reaching into vaulted ceilings, the canister doesn't fall over No Light- again not a HUGE deal but seeing dust bunnies run from you was easier with a light Hose- The hose states it'll reach 12' making stairs easy but let me tell you, it does not even come close. Like mentioned above, once you get hose fully extended you need something to weigh it down so it doesn't fall over from over extension Accessories- My liftaway had a ton of accessories for options i.e. stair brushroll, and a few others but let's stick with that one. For a machine that claims it's turbo power for pets to not provide a stair brushroll seems silly, I have tried to rig my old one to fit my new machine and it works just ok, I end up using my old vacuum to do the stairs ugh. Got this to replace a 15+ year old upright, and I am shocked at how much technology has improved! This is a fraction of the weight, quieter, stronger, more maneuverable, and easier to clean out. The old one had the yellow plastic filter tucked up inside the machine where it was a serious pain to blindly get back in place. I love the ability to vary suction power both on the vacuum and the attachment. (I love the two-in-one attachment.) I gave our place a much-needed vacuuming and was horrified/quite pleased with the amount of awfulness this bad boy cleaned up. After the first time I used this, there was a lot of hair wrapped around the brush. I was initially concerned, but then I decided to trust the instructions (and test the product) and waited until after using it some more to see if it cleaned itself. And it did! Ordered this bundle for such a great deal! Unfortunately, the item was delivered to the wrong address by FedEx. Totally not Hoover's fault. They re-shipped another bundle to me, and it worked out well the second time. I love these vacuums! They do a great job on our hardwoods and rugs and carpet. Our two year old loves to help vacuum too – that's how light the stick vacuum is! Being cordless is such a plus!!! Only wish that the batteries weren't so expensive, but that's not a huge deal. We purchased one extra battery just so both the handheld and stick have their own batteries. I will say that the handheld is far inferior to the stick, but it works for what we need (to do the stairs and our cars) – just have to go over the same areas multiple times, as the suction isn't stellar. I bought this cordless vac because I like any conveniences I can get when it comes to house work. I use my floor cleaners more often when cordless. I can glady skip wrapping/unwrapping, plugging/unplugging cords in and out of electrical outlets from room to room. I've been happy with this cordless since I got it last July (not quite one year old). It was an upgrade overall from what I had. However the hose got a hole in it not about 6-7 months in. Not from anything I could figure out. I duct taped it and after a second hole, I contacted the Manufacturer, since it's still within a 3 year warranty. They said the hose is not made anymore – already out of making the parts??? They will replace it — okay, — but I have to mail the whole vac back on my dime. They will pay for the shipment of the new unit. Which may be kinda fair, but it's too soon for this type of episode with a not quite a year old vacuum. Since the parts are not being made – there's no commitment to this product by the mfr. I did not buy at this store, but thought I would let someone know if considering — please don't do it.Chickee

I was going back and forth between this and the shark navigator cordless. They seemed pretty even on reviews. I mostly decided on this because it's was on sale on the Hoover website! I had to wait a little longer to get it then I would from other sites(about 5 days from the day I ordered it) but it was worth the price difference for sure. I was worried about it as I have 4 dogs. A great dane(high shedder short hair), a Mini Aussie( How shedder clumpy hair), a King Shepherd(high shedder clumpy long hair) and a Cheweenie(high shedder short hair. I also have a maine coon cat. So, I essentially have lots of hair everywhere, all the time. I do NOT know how this performs on carpers because I bought it for my wood floors( bathrooms(2), hallway, entryway, dining room, and kitchen.) So far it has worked great for me. I have had ZERO clog issues despite the amount of hair it has to pick up and I have been able to vacuum all the above mentioned rooms in one swoop without the battery going dead. It picks everything up easily. I actually accidentally sucked up a good size piece of paper today and really though it would cause my first clog, but atlas it didn't. So far this vacuum is performing perfectly for me. I think the only downside I can think of as of now is the fact that a replacement battery is 100$. However, there are off brand batteries other places that are compatible with this vacuum for half the price, and the reviews on them state that they actually work better than the original hoover battery… So, I will probably just go that route whenever I need a new battery. So i normally dont leave reviews like this but i am so sad and somewhat disgusted by my last two shark purchases. I will start off by saying when i first received my duoclean i was in love and recommended it to everyone.. no one was allowed to touch it but me. The light on the wand was my favorite. I couldnt say enough good things about it. After having it a little over a year it started losing connection on the wand. I would blow it out with an air compressor and it would usually help. I even upgraded to a zero-m base with a self cleaning brush roll which made this machine even more amazing. Pretty soon the connection problem became more consistent and aftet a little over 3 years the base part of the machine (which later i found out was the wand connection) stopped working completely.. i decided to get another vacuum and decided on the vertex. In less than a year i was having connection problems and the fins on my brushroll were pretty much gone. I was having to duct tape the wand to the base so it isnt loose. I called for help and tbey told me to replace the wand to fix the connection problem. When i asked about the base with all the fins gone on my brushroll he told me i would have to replace the entire base and couldnt just replace the brush. I remind you…i had had this vacuum less than a year. I may as well just buy a whole new vaccum! So i have opted for my duct tape method which has been inconvenient but works. I have now only had a year and half and may as well throw it in the garbage. And now have to spend money on yet another vacuum.. I am drawn to shark because i love that its lightweight and the lift away is awesome. But im not rich and cant afford to be buying a vaccum every year or 2. I wish shark would stand behind their products and cover major parts for at least a year or maybe find out why they are having connection issues. I am disgusted and embarrassed that i have recommended these products to so many people who have went out and bought them. I hope they dont have the same problems i have. I wrote this review in hopes that someone from shark would contact me and make things good. Only time will tell. But in the mean time i am in need of a working vacuum that is not a sharkJenny

Best vacuum ever. Dogs, dust, dirt, multi surfaces no problem! Living on a ranch there is dust, dirt, work boots and cow dogs. A mile down a dirt road, surrounded by orchards and cattle, there is a year round rotation of spraying, shaking trees, sweeping nuts, and cow work. I was using three different reputable vacuums to try to get my floors tolerable, including the shop vac I "borrowed" from the barn. I had given up on clean. I was actually starting to feel depressed, especially about the carpet, and thinking I was just going to have to replace it in three rooms. I hated to have people over for them to see it. One midnight infomercial and free shipping later and every person who has been over has commented on how clean the house is. The only change in routine is the Shark Vertex vacuum. One pass over the floor with the Shark Vertex and my hard wood floor felt clean, not just dog hair and dust up, but no grit and shiny with the microfiber. The carpet in the bedrooms has been transformed, I knew there was residual dust/dander left behind by the three vacuums I was using, but nothing prepared me for what the Vertex pulled out. All the hours and passes with multiple vacuums and the Vertex was like magic. Chinchilla tossing his bathing dust everywhere, the Vertex microfiber leaves the wood floor polished. The house feels cleaner, even the air seems like it has less residual dust. If you live on a ranch you know what I mean. Tools and attachments are all easy to use. Canister is easy to empty and put back on. I wasn't expecting it to drive itself, there is no effort to move it forward. My house will never be perfect, but I finally feel like my efforts to clean it work. I am no longer embarrassed to have my revolving ranch door open to everyone.Bonner

Purchased vacuum at the end of 2020. I have only owned this vacuum for a little over 2 years and will need to replace the floor unit a second time. This might be a yearly replacement. I have long hair and have two doodle dogs. So I vacuum probably 3 to 4 times a week. At first I really liked this vacuum. It cleaned hard floors and carpet well but around 8 months of use I started to smell a melting/burning plastic smell while using. Eventually the main roller stopped spinning. I wasn't sure why I would be having that issue since I cleaned the filters often (have extra so that I don't have to wait for filters to dry) and cleaned out both rollers after each use. Shark replaced that floor unit since it had been less than a year of owning it. After using the replacement floor unit for less than a year it is now having that melting/burning plastic smell. Not sure if there is a warranty on the replacement parts but I guess I will find out once this current floor unit stops spinning. Shark didn't ask for the old floor unit back so I decided to open it and see what the issue was. It turns out that hair was getting trapped around the bearing for the main roller. There is no way to clean this and is a poor design. The images attached show the main roller bearing gets hair trapped by it and will eventually melt the components around it until the roller doesn't spin. I wish I would of taken a picture before/after removing the bearing cover so that I could show that could show packed in that hair was.Alice90

I bought this vacuum for my wife who, due to chronic health issues, struggles to use our heavier vacuum cleaner. She wanted to get something that would be lightweight and easy for her to use — and it ends up that our son loves to vacuum as well. We ended up purchasing the slightly smaller option (Jet 70) but its battery still works well and can maintain the MAX setting for a few bedrooms. I would recommend purchasing an extra battery and charger if you plan on making this your main vacuum. This vacuum did an excellent job picking up pet hair — which we have a cat and German Shepherd that seem to shed an entire coat every day — this has been a HUGE help in keeping our house less like a zoo. Ultimately, I decided to go with this vacuum and Samsung because of their willingness to offer military discounts and their sales team was a tremendous help.DrPhilboBaggins

received this vacuum cleaner and auto emptying dustbin from Samsung for product testing purposes. First impressions, very easy to put together and very lightweight. Liked the touch control pad for controlling the on/off and the amount of power. I wad excited to try this cleaner as I have 7 cats and 2 dogs in a house with 3 adults. That equals a lot of fur and therefore daily hoovering. Whilst I was impressed with how light the vaccum was and how powerful it is for a cordless model the battery life really lets this down. Maybe I had a faulty model but the battery lasted literally 10 minutes from a full charge. In a house with so many animals this barely allowed me to do 2 rooms thoroughly so in order to do the whole house it would be a full day job which obviously isn't feasible in the slightest.Jessi81888

i had high hopes for this vacuum and it doesn't disappoint on cleaning and battery life very lightweight and powerful. that's what is so disappointing with the overall experience. the canisters (particularly for the clean station) are very flimsy and prone to cracking and breaking. in addition, the clean white plastic handle housing on mine yellowed after only a few months and looks terrible. chat with customer service and not helpful despite still being within warranty. one last ditch effort to call for help today and was transferred to a parts department that was not available on saturdays and dc'd my call. this is not what i expect from samsung products.JSyman

Vacuum cleaners have slowly been making the transition from uprights that you drag around the floor (common design for many decades) into hand-held models, both wired and battery powered wireless. There are many similarities between makes and models, but Dyson has decided to up the game with their new “Dyson Outsize” model. The Dyson Outsize is big… VERY big, for a hand-held. The dust and dirt collection bin is 150% larger (or more) than most other models on the market, and the roller/cleaner head is 25% larger as well. As a result, you can in theory, vacuum your whole house without having to stop in-between rooms to empty a small bin, as this one is large enough to handle most homes without stopping. The larger cleaner head also means fewer passes over a floor to cover the same ground compared to smaller units. Two batteries were included with my unit, so in theory you can also do that same house without having to recharge (well… maybe – more later). I wasn’t wanting for accessories. Mine came with the larger cleaner head, a small power head for cleaning furniture, three dust/brush ends that would be good for small furniture or cars, and a thin longer crevice tool, also good for cars or behind cushions, etc. The main extension wand, two batteries, two chargers, and a wall hanging unit completed a very full box. Note, there is NO floor stand included as with some other brands (boo) – just a bracket you can screw into your wall to hang the Dyson from when not in use. I didn’t need to really read the instructions for assembly – literally you just snap the extender into the main dust bin body, and snap whichever end tool you want to that, and once the batteries are charged and you attach one to the handle, you are ready to go. Pulling the trigger starts the unit and a small, round display screen facing you tells you which power level you’re using (auto mode, eco, or boost), as well as gives you a per-minute estimate on how long your battery will last before giving out. Dyson’s claim to fame on their models is that they will maintain full suction power until the battery dies, as opposed to weakening as the battery does, and I found this to be pretty much the case. Eco mode is for light cleaning (I found this best for harder non-carpeted floors) and gives you about 60 minutes of run time per full battery charge. Auto mode will vary the power depending on type of surface and need – more of a medium/normal clean, and gives you roughly 20-40 minutes of run time (I averaged around 30 minutes). Boost mode is a lot more powerful for deep cleaning, but, hold on… at best you’ll get 5-8 (or so) minutes from the battery using this mode. The batteries are pretty hefty in size and weight, and take about 3 ½ hours to charge (each). The Outsize is powerful. It did pull up dirt from my carpet that a lesser model missed, especially in boost mode. The auto mode did a little better than many others, and the eco mode again is just for light cleaning which I found to be best picking up crumbs from the kitchen wood floor (the cleaner head adjusts automatically for floor type). It was reasonably quiet, and the HEPA filter near the top of the bin filtered the air well, though it did create a “breeze” that knocked a few sheets of paper off of nearly tables as I passed. In terms of cleaning power and battery life so long as I kept it on auto or eco, I consider this to be a very good machine. Now… one thing: SIZE. As said earlier, this is a very large hand-held vacuum. By the time I got near the end of my house, my arm could definitely feel that I had been carrying a larger machine around. Not really a huge issue for me, but if you are buying this for someone else such as an older relative, a smaller person, or someone who’s not the strongest person around, they may have issues with the size and/or weight. I have few other complaints about the Dyson Outsize, but one is as mentioned earlier, the lack of an included floor stand, which some other brand models have. Not everyone is able to hang this from their wall (or if in a rental/apartment, you may not wish to screw a wall mount into the wall). A floor stand is, in my opinion, more convenient, so it would have been nice to see one included. Last, the price. Dyson is a premium vacuum brand, and you do pay for that. It does come with a full two year warranty (personally I wish it were more like 5 years at this price point). Only you can decide if it fits into your budget or not, but again, it is a very good machine. So, with the considerations you’ll need to take with size/weight/budget, I do recommend the Dyson Outsize.AtlantaGreg

This review is going to compare it to our older V10 Absolute. 1. Tools included in Outsize Absolute version are: High Torque XL cleaner head – provides better coverage (tool is wider) and also picks up dirt better than 'Direct Drive' on V10 – It adapts to the surface and speeds up or slow downs based on the resistance.. Laser Slim Fluffy™ cleaner head – this is much better than 'Soft roller' on V10. Laser seems like gimmick but actually helps finding missed spots on flat surfaces. Hair screw tool – works better than Mini motorised tool from V10 Combination tool – same as on V10 Quick-release mini soft dusting brush – same as on V10 Crevice tool – same as on V10. 2. Battery life Compared to our Dyson V10 its it has much better battery life – each setting lasts substantially longer than on V10 and with better suction. Battery in Outsize is swappable and second battery is included in the box so you you can swap it any time you run out of juice. Conveniently two chargers are in the box as well so you can have one attached permanently to docking station and you can use second one to charge second battery at the same time. Spare battery and battery life makes it very convenient even for large houses where V10 might not last long enough for full cleaning. 3. Size/weight Outsize is significantly larger (haven't measured) and heavier than V10 (2.4kg vs 1.6kg). Suction is better than on V10 probably at least partially because of that and you don't have to empty it as often but at the price of vacuum being more bulky and less convenient as cordless device. Generally this makes the Outsize much more convenient for large surfaces/floors but less convenient for hard to reach places, stairs etc. My wife still haven't decided if weight/size justifies the improvements but kids always pick V10 over Outsize when cleaning. 4. Other notes Tools are compatible between both versions. Same tool tested on both vacuums works better on Outsize than on V10 which I think can be attributed to better suction on Outsize compared to V10. Docking station is not compatible between V10 and Outsize due to different size of battery. Display on the back is nice addition and gives you graphical overview of remaining charge and after few seconds of continuous use shows estimated time so you have good indication how long battery will last. Button on back of Outsize to select modes is much more convenient than slider selector on V10. Tools are compatible between both versions. Same tool tested on both vacuums works better on Outsize than on V10 which I think can be attributed to better suction on Outsize compared to V10. I just received this Tuesday and so far I like it. I told myself if I didn’t have a life changing moment, I would return it for the price of this thing. I’ve been vacuum shopping for over a year since giving my vacuum away. I have all tile floors and I’m old school, so I can work a broom and mop lol. I figured I’d be okay and would get a really good one later. Well, later finally arrived!! I did some research and read a lot of reviews and decided on this one. I have a steam mop with a light and I cannot tell you how frustrating it is to come across a spot of missed dust in a corner. Off top, I knew the 2 brush heads and attachments would be exactly what I needed to combat the surface dirt and dust. I binged vacuumed my whole 3 bedroom apartment yesterday testing this thing out… I vacuumed appliances, vents, ceiling fans, area rugs, windows, base boards, furniture, etc. I did have to charge the chargers twice because I used them down to 0% using all three modes (depending on the area), but did not charge fully as I was not waiting the 3.5 hours. My second charges started with about 75% each charge. With that being said, I’m sure I can finish all my floors in one session. I typically vacuum main areas all together and then rooms separately. This was an abnormal cleaning session and I was just all over the place geeked. This thing is hands down an efficient tool. Definitely 5 stars for efficiency. There are so many tools for every job, and this really picks up the dust. I’m not sure how it does it because it handles so smoothly and is not very loud. The suction does not death grip the surfaces but is able to smoothly glide along and hit the particles just right to clean them up. It picks up bigger particles as well and it picked up a small clusters of dog hair from our Yorkie. She does not shed a lot but sometimes her hair will gather in a corner. Just for comparison for other dog owners. It does not kick particles back out over the floor at all. It’s a one pass for all tools as well, not just the brush rolls. Going over the base boards was really easy whereas before I was cleaning them with cleaner solution and a rag. My only gripe is that the Outsize is HEAVY!!! It really is. It’s easy to push over the floor and carpet but actually lifting the thing up to dust ceiling fans was treacherous. I am going to get a stepping stool to see if that helps not having to reach as high. I will continue to brain storm how to use the reach tools to shorten the actual reach of my arm. I think that will be the ultimate solution is finding new ways to reach the crevices as comfortably as possible. Storage and space wise, this thing is awesome. I just mounted my wall bracket and will be picking up the stand today. I will like using the stand in each room while I’m vacuuming instead of trying to set the thing down or lean it somewhere safe. So, I would recommend buying the stand. Overall, I would say get it! The price is steep but I’ve never had a vacuum cleaner that cuts my cleaning time by more than half so I feel that it’s worth the investment. This is my first stick vac ever and it’s exactly what I wanted, but I have nothing to compare it to. I just know the reviews I read are pretty spot on. I’m looking forward to years of use and using this vacuum in my new home (in the future).Lisa36

So I've owned a Ball Animal 2 for about 3 yrs and have had a love/hate relationship with it. And having owned the Ball Animal 3 for almost a month now, I can honestly say I still have a love/hate relationship with this brand. I purchased the Animal 3 because I was glad to finally see that Dyson opted to change the Cleaning Head to what the UK variant has had for awhile now, which is having a carpet height selector. Now I really have to say that the Animal 3 has so much better suction with having the carpet height selector, but that also has a negative that I've found. I find it very difficult to turn now compared to the Animal 2 which turned on a dime. I will for sure keep it as I don't want to jump through the hoops of returning it, but I don't believe I will be making any future Dyson vacuum purchases in the future after this experience. The cost of these vacuums is very much on the high side and with that you would expect that they would do their own inhouse study/testing and they seem to have failed at this. In the end it basically comes down to the fact that the negatives outweigh the positives when compared to what you expect when making such an expensive purchase. Yes the suction is probably the best you'll ever have with any vacuum on the market BUT with negative costs. Being a "BALL" vacuum and unlike the Animal 2 that could turn easily, this thing is a major struggle to turn… NOT GOOD! The Animal 3 also has the same issues like the Animal 2 in that trying to use the hose is a chore on it's own. The suction is just so strong that you basically need to have the vacuum right next you or end up having to do things like… prop the vacuum around the corner of a wall and then stretch out the hose while also having some decent arm and upper body strength to do so with even minimal comfort. The "Cyclone" portion of the vacuum is a very poor design. Due to a common static charge while vacuuming, it allows for dust to build up in massive clumps within the Cyclone piece. You need to constantly bang the heck out of this piece while over a trash can in order to keep it even somewhat clean. And they don't make it so the Cyclone can be easily disassembled for cleaning which is a huge disappointment and failure within it's design. I also find it upsetting that even though Dyson offers a TON of accessories for these upright models… they don't offer one of the most common of accessories… a basic dusting brush! Yes it comes with a combo tool for crevice and dusting. They even offer a wide variety of other dusting attachments… ones that can twist for angled dusting, one that can bend etc etc… but then not your basic common everyday short dusting brush that's found on 99.9% of vacuums since they were invented. Really boggles my mind. No lie… since I still have the Animal 2, I took the combo tool from that one and ended up cutting off basically 80% of the crevice tool portion to make my own "basic short dusting brush!". Dyson if your listening: You should have listened to your customer base and address the issue with the hose being difficult to use. I'm sure there has to be a solution… maybe a hose that's not as stiff? Look into my "home modification" of the basic short dusting brush and release a factory version. And please look into the problem of the Animal 3 being so much harder to turn compared to the Animal 2.MotionMan

Dyson products seem to always be ones made to delight. I really enjoyed this vacuum which is an upgrade for my family over a Dyson – Cinetic Big Ball Animal Bagless Upright Vacuum – Iron/Purple that purchased from Best Buy 6 years ago. 6 years later and Dyson's vacuums are still amazing, this one has strong suction that you expect from the name and is somewhat smaller and more compact that the predecessor. I think it runs quieter too although I have not used the deicbel app to compare quantitatively. The smaller size means that there are spots in the corners and around furniture that are now easier to vacuum than before but the head itself sits taller, tall enough that I can no longer vacuum underneath the chairs and couches. The reason for the change in headsize is actually the main draw of this vacuum — the head has been completely redesigned so as to prevent the bunching of pet hair within the bristles. As we have a dog and two cats sharing the house with us, this has been a pain point in the past. Even our dysons need to be taken apart and cleaned of fur at least every 6 weeks so that they continue to run smooth. The early results from a weekend of vaccuming are very promising: the bristles are still out-of-the-box new despite several passes over our house that had gone embarrasingly long between vacuums prior delivery of a new machine. I'm hopeful that this is another part of cleaning that Dyson has made slightly easier.BostonBru

My experience with this rendition of their Ball design bears that out, and I've been largely pleased with it. The Animal version of the Ball is marketed specifically at people with pets, to clean up the hair from carpets and furniture. I find it's also handy if you or the people you live with have long hair. In general, it cleans quite well. It has very powerful suction and the power bar base has three settings for deep pile carpet, normal carpet, and hard floors. The power bar itself can also be toggled on and off. I found it cleaned my carpets quite well, though cleaning my hardwood left a little to be desired ( the instruction manual recommends turning the power bar off for this, I'm not sure why ). It also has a very generous cord length. And though Dyson created the Ball design specifically to make it easier to steer the vacuum around corners and obstacles, I find it much stiffer to turn than other current swivel head vacuums. I appreciate Dyson's design in the vacuum. It's fairly modular, making it relatively easy to service and maintain yourself, provided you can get a replacement part. The filters are washable so you can reuse them instead of constantly buying new replacements. It also keeps things slim and trim so the vacuum is a little more compact than other full-size uprights. This particular model also comes with two extra attachment tools. One is an upholstery brush/cleaner, the other is a pet grooming tool that's supposed to suck up the shedded hair as you brush. How well your pet will handle being brushed near a vacuum remains to be seen. But sometimes I think it tries to be too clever. It uses a friction snap instead of a pedal to release the vertical lock. It's usually fine, but it also means you can accidentally release the upright lock when you don't want to, like if you want to tilt the vacuum back and roll it somewhere or even if you pick it up and then set it down. The extension wand is stored inside the hose in the main column. This is nice for reducing the exterior dimensions, but it also means you have to unwind the entire cord and slide out the entire wand when you want to do some quick spot cleaning. You can detach the wand from the hose if you don't need or want the reach, like in a small corner or nook, but in those moments where you just want to quickly clean up some cookie crumbs or dust bunnies, it's more involved than you might be used to. The main handle is also reversed to accommodate the extension wand, putting the main column below your hand instead of above it when you're using the vacuum. This means the vacuum tilts back farther than others when using it. For myself, I found my legs and knees bumped into main unit a lot since it was now leaning more toward me. Most of these complaints are small quirks, admittedly. They may or may not matter to you. All in all, it's a well built vacuum, it cleans well, and it stores easily. It does have a few quirks and the "exhaust" air is quite hot, but these are minor complaints on an otherwise great vacuum.Jaron

I LOVE DYSON. It’s been a love affair for @15 or so years. I had the V-6 and made an excuse that college child needed so I could get the V-11animal. No one in my house were allowed to use. It WAS my baby – empty nester at the time. I bought it shortly after it first came out so it has the screwed in battery. I needed a cordless vacuum that was able to pick up Belgian Malinois Shepard fur from H _ _ _, easy to use, lighter than a full vacuum BUT WORK AS WELL OR BETTER than a full-size – I have chronic back pain and fibromyalgia and numbness… Yes in my crazy perfect vacuum dream world this existed and it DID! Thanks Dyson! It checked EVERY box of my needs, well except price. It was the most I have ever spent on something for me but dang it I deserved it and NEEDED it. It has been absolutely incredible! I would have told you 2 years ago do whatever you need to and buy bc it has incredible suction, awesome holders for tools with wall mount and on pole, adjustable suction on torque floor tool, adjust able power – Eco for low dirt area, Auto and Boost for deeper and stronger suction. So those are PROS. CONS are you need to press trigger to power it so with my neuropathy in hands at times I cannot vac, need to remove any attachments to empty dirt bin, after @8-12 months the bin empty slide started to stick, and then at 2 years (WARRANTY EXPIRED) and @5 months it started to shut off and then turn on. Called customer support and and they did a video troubleshoot and said it’s the battery. Well no battery in stock. Actually ABSOLUTELY ZERO SPARE PARTS for my baby have been in stock for over a month now! A week or so later it stopped more and then shut down. Called again and told it was the cyclone part (a guy on YouTube had same exact issue but his warranty was still active) BUT NO PART available. He told me to call or go to my nearest Dyson service center. Well the nearest in @1.25hrs. away. I do not have a car – getting divorced so I took my Dyson V11 animal and he got our 25 y/o car worth about the same. He fought for my V11 which was honestly a no win – I don’t know what he was thinking. Lol Plus the service center when I finally reached a person said that maybe it’s the trigger and I could mail it in. I still haven’t decided bc why pay to ship something that there’s no parts for? I rarely ever leave reviews but this thing is great! This is my first Dyson purchase and I have a German Shepard mix who sheds constantly, this V11 handles his hair with ease. I love the flexibility to use it anywhere with the attachments that are included, my personal favorite is the mini motorized tool. The simple design makes it easy to clean and maintenance. This thing picks up dirt that you don’t even see, especially in carpets and area rugs. I am also one who cares about packaging and this thing is packaged perfectly. The only downside, like all electronics is the battery life. 5 to 6 minutes on boost mode is not enough for a vacuum of this cost. I would like to see Dyson sell an additional king power cord that can be used to power the vacuum directly more like a traditional vacuum if needed for those of us with bigger houses with lots of carpeted areas.Jxustin

After reading these reviews I can't help but think that these machines are designed to last for roughly 2.5 years. My machine did the exact same thing that others have written about. I purchased this machine back in January 2020, about a month ago it started cutting off during use. The cutting off started getting more frequently to the point where the machine stays on for about 2 seconds before cutting off which makes it inoperable. So I call the service center to be told that my machine is out of warranty as of January 2022 and a replacement motor will cost $116. It is really unfortunate that a $700 machine is designed to last 2.5 years before you have to put more money into it. The sad part about it is that most people will pay the $116 because you can not get a new decent vac for that price and secondly, you have already invested $700 in this machine. It is very disheartening, and I wish I would have went with a different brand.Trise
