Best Vacuum For Vinyl Pool (2023 Update)

Is it worth the $160? Absolutely. My boyfriend and I bought a house in June with a pool. Since neither one of us had owned a pool in the past, we hired a pool company for monthly maintenance and service. My boyfriend has been telling me since then that we weren't getting our money's worth. We finally decided to get a pool vacuum for the pool since our pool was constantly green. Well, we decided to test this out yesterday, and it's been in our pool ever since. With the help of a local pool company, we were able to get the pool from swampy to sparkling in a mere 24 hours. Then, this creepy sucked up all the dead algae, dirt, and "stuff" our pool people couldn't do. Even if we have to buy one every year, it will STILL be worth it! Oh, it did took a while to figure out the weights. And sometimes we still have to guide it to the shallow end, but it's a small price to pay. Worth every penny I took a risk with! I have a cheap Intex inflatable pool. After a $500 pump filter upgrade ( totally necessary), I needed to invest in a vacuum. After hours of research and videos, I decided upon this product and I am totally 100% Satisfied! ( I’m extremely meticulous)It sucks up everything as I needed it to do. From small sand, super fine dead algae, to larger objects and dirt.Assembly was easy, thanks to a you tube video I saw.There are more than enough hose lengths for a large 24’ or so pool.The fun part was tinkering with the hose lengths for my pool and adjusting the weights on the hose to get it work optimally. I’ll get to that in a minute!The 2 springs on the flapper valve ( speed adjustment) are easy to change the position, made of quality stainless steel, and have exact tension which I appreciate! The trick to changing the spring slot position is to use your thumb on the flapper valve as it relieves tension making the change much easier.This is the best investment in a vac you could make on a lower budget that doesn’t break the bank!Plug the hose ( has a stepped size flexible rubber adapter), ( SEE PICTURE), into your skimmer, or wall inlet ( mine is an Intex easy set ( w/ aftermarket fitting ), adjust the weight on the hose ( 12” or less near the vac) to keep the vac at a 45 Deg optimal angle, turn your pump on, and watch it go to work! EASY AS PIE!It “ chugs “ along on a pulse suction operation based upon the spring setting on the suction valve. I found a fast setting gets most dirt, but a slower ( middle of 6 slots), is the better setting for really fine debris.The key is the yellow weight near the end of the first hose nearest the vac. The directions say, place 1 weight w/I 12” of the hose connection. I slid the weight back and it lifted the rubber circular vac “ plate” piece up off the bottom of the liner too much and suction was drastically reduced and it missed a lot of dirt. The directions also say to use 1 yellow “slide on the tube “ weight per 3’ of hose. That advice is spot on! It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure it out!The assembly did require a pair of needle nose pliers to pinch the plastic slip fit pieces properly into their positions. (SEE PICTURES), Anyone who can do it without pliers has to have amazing finger pinching strength in a very small confined space.Assembly was really easy, except the “ bumper guards “ slots and pliers, even that wasn’t bad actually. ( see pictures)It assembled in 10 minutes, was fun to adjust and watch work, and relief was overwhelming for me as I finally had an automatic vacuum that did an excellent job without me having to hold a pole, nor get in the water any longer; which, for 9 years was the norm.I am over the moon happy!!! I also didn’t have to use a garden hose and add water to the pool anymore ( big smile) while vacuuming which stirs up the bottom ultra fine sediments. Those days are OVER! Wahoooo.After using for 30 minutes ( 18×48 easy set inflatable Intex ) with the ladder removed, it did exactly what I bought it for, my pool was spotless on the bottom!It rounded the corners ( constant radius pool ), never snagged or got hung up ( hose length is VITAL), and I am telling you, this product is everything I wanted it to be! A solid performer!I have a 1 HP pump, and the directions do have a conflict where it says you should have at least a 3/4 hp pump, then the next paragraph it says, you must have a 1 hp pump or above to use this product successfully.With pools, the more suction is always better though right? Yes indeed, more is better in this instance.I’m glad I researched what vac to buy BEFORE upgrading my pump, as it was super helpful to know what HP I needed. The 1 HP is adequate!So in closing, I would highly recommend this product and would definitely buy it again. The fit and finish is top notch, functionality is perfect, and you can put this in your pool, let it go, and walk away unless you have steps. It can get stuck in 90 degree tight spaces near a ladder, but it’s rare. The bumper guards do a great job to help it navigate around possible snags.If you’re wondering if this is worth the $100 + ( thanks Covid) price tag, in my case, definitely! This little critter is great, especially for the price. Yeah, I'd like to have one of those $1,000 robot pool cleaners, but for under $200, this one does great! It had my pool cleaned in about 3 hours, and I didn't do what the instructions said, which was to brush and totally clean it before using this (huh?) That's like cleaning before the cleaning lady comes. (well, okay; so I do that.) This is my second XremepowerUS Automatic Suction Vacuum; the first had a handle part break after a few years, but it was still working up until then, so once again – for the money, this is a great little workhorse of a vacuum. For those having trouble – work with it; adjust the flow of water to your skimmers, add or remove hose – it WILL work if you use it properly. It may not get every single inch of your pool, but with a little diligence on your part, it will keep your pool much cleaner than without using it. We have big trees around our pool, and there is always a little debris in the pool, except when there is absolutely no wind, which is rare in Kansas.Yessenia S.

The Intex 28620EP is perfect for removing small particles from the floor of our outdoor spa. Since it has NiMH batteries instead of Lithium, it is priced lower and it has enough suction to pick up the debris in its path. It comes with a regular filter and two sock-like bags for capturing very fine particles. It also comes with an extendable pole which lets me reach everywhere in the spa, and it comes with two head attachments for moving around different terrain and angles. It does not come with a charging source, just a USB type cable to connect to a phone or other charging block. Charging takes 6 – 8 hours, and run time is reportedly only about 20 minutes, but that's long enough: I've used it 3 times so far but I'm done in about 10 minutes so it's never run out of power too soon. You do need to move it slowly so as not to stir up the debris, and the power comes on only when it has been submerged and the power switch is on. It is very quiet so you have to watch it work rather than hear it. After years of having difficulty getting the floor of our spa clean, this little unit has made me wish I found it a long time ago.cyberclg

I was worried about this having NiMh batteries instead of LiOn batteries, but I have been using this to clean my Spa for over a month and have not had to recharge yet. I did fully charge it overnight before the first use. I was also worried about the suction power, because I saw several bad reviews about it. It has great suction power, at least when I leave attachments off (I haven't tried them because I want a small focus point for small areas). It pics up all the small particles in all the corners as well as larger leaves. It turns on only when submerged to protect the pump. It is very easy to clean. The telescoping handle makes it easy to reach everywhere in my spa. In my opinion, I wouldn't worry about the negative reviews, I find that most negative reviews are operator error, negative Nellies that can never be satisfied, or the rare lemon that might escape a manufacturer.David A.

Love it! I made sure to directly take it out to use after charging it when the light was green showing it’s ready to suck. Pun intended. I have a 10×20’ intex pool and it took about a half hour or so to cover it completely but picked up the dirt and debris. I have my pool away from trees with leaves so haven’t had to deal with big leaves. But round one of cleaning went great! Glad I didn’t get a robotic one bc this isn’t bad at all!Update. Make sure when you are going for removing algae to put the white sleeve over the black one. You insert the white sleeve into the black one first and make sure the thicker part of the rim of the white one extends completely below where the black ones rubber rim ends otherwise it doesn’t make a good deal when you place them together into the end of the vacuum. Then when you insert them into the vacuum together, make sure the edging is sealed by gently pushing down around the entire area.Rachel J.

So I have a Love-hate relationship with this machine. I hate that the dirty water tank fills up so quickly and that the brush roll gets dirty so fast so your floors not really getting completely clean but it’s convenient that it vacuums sweeps and mops at the same time. I don’t like that it doesn’t do well in corners or right up against the wall or whatever it’s near so half an inch when it’s mopping isn’t getting touched. I really wish it had some sort of attachment to get in the corners so I have to sweep it out to be picked up, like all around the corners the tops of the baseboard under the bed, under the dressers, under the couch and up against the cabinets and wall. The front of the machine won’t fit under my cabinet bottom because the head of the machine is too thick so I have to get a broom and sweep it away from the lip, and the way my cabinets are made at the bottom they are all the way to the floor and they don’t move and where the doors close there’s a 2 inch overhang or lip place under there that you can see but it overhangs so the machine won’t go under it by like a hair. If only it was half an inch to 1/4 of an inch thinner the machine would fit. I don’t like when I go under the bed, I can’t even get halfway under there without the bottom of the machine lifting up off the floor, so it doesn’t get vacuumed or mopped there, (unless I do it manually, and I DO, it’s the o.c.d. in me) my room is so small I can’t slide my bed far enough away in either direction to get those spots with the machine. I think they should make it to where it stays on the floor when you go under anything, and also it should be thinner to fit under anything. It will give the signal by getting really loud saying it’s full when it’s not if anything gets at the top of the floater sensor like dirt or hair. It will also do this if you lean it back too far. But I repeat but don’t let this keep you from buying this machine because with seven kids between me and my husband and three adults life gets messy and I don’t have any carpet in my house it’s all hardwood and tile. This machine saves my sanity some days. You don’t feel anything on the floor when you walk barefoot after you’ve done the floors with the machine, like you do when you sweep and mop I don’t care how many times I sweep and mop manually I will always find more and feel more dirt. So this machine is awesome, it has a long cord so I don’t have to move the cord every single time I go 10 feet, Which sometimes when I’m in a hurry the cord can get in my way or get tangled up but if you know that in advance it’s not a problem. I do think this machine is worth the money. I would not go with the cordless because it only last 30 minutes off the charger, and after a while those cordless items stop charging or holding a charge.I can get past little issues that irk me about this machine due to the fact it does such a wonderful job!candace

Assembled according to diagram with weight positioned 1-1/2 lengths back from sweeper end. Two extra lengths added beyond longest stretch in pool. Worked right away and remains flat and balanced throughout. Even climbs the sides of the pool to the water line. Doesn't cover stairs or ledge as expected.Moves fairly quick at 2800 rpm. But even more impressive is that it is still moving at 1800 and 1500 rpm on my 1-1/2 hp variable speed motor. I'm using a dedicated pool vac line that is connected to the filter basket skimmer underground, so I leave a rubber cork in center of skimmer lid to divert all suction to that line. If I pull the cork, of course the sweeper will not run and it will skim instead. That's how my system normally works.Just finished resurfacing pool with mini pebble Tec finish and this has swept it clean since all chemicals were balanced and pool is looking sharp!You will notice in video how the hose line oscillates back and forth as the diaphragm pumps. This is normal and only makes a slight thumping noise that is not bothersome at all. It does make the pool water look shaky like there's a lot of wind, but not an issue.Great replacement for my age old Hayward Pool Vac and I don't have to change expensive parts every year. Not sure it would have lasted on pebble Tec anyway due to rougher surface on plastic.Well worth the money especially when on sale. Two thumbs up so far. Will be back if something fails.Carey P.

I’m not trashing the product because by reviews it seems to work for some. In my situation I could never get it to be satisfactory. Regardless of how I adjusted weight placement, return outlet directions, main and skimmer valves I couldn’t get it to do everything the way it should. Example: in my system I can’t restrict the main drain suction enough without it cutting sufficient flow to the pump to keep it from frequently getting stuck on the main drain. Unfortunately once you try it you own it. Also, if you have to hook it up through the skimmer, you no longer skim floating bugs or debris. For me it’s way easier and less frustrating to spend a half hour brushing and vacuuming once every week or so, and I don’t have to look at it or swim around it.David Eckert

Bought this a replacement for a six year old unit. We have a 16000gal 16 x 34 inground with 1/2 being 8ft deep. Cleans bottom and sides well if we keep the suction balanced at the pump diverted valve. Very easy to assemble. Main part that wears is the diaphragm tube. Easily replaced and relatively inexpensive. Have found the cheap, Chinese knockoffs to be worthless.terrance6

We bought this a few days ago because my pool was in need of a major cleaning!! I'm not sure why the other persons review was so bad, but it works great for me! I have to leave a review because theirs almost discouraged me from getting one!! Agreed that the instructions weren't the best, and that's why it didn't get 5 stars, but if you hook it up right it gets the job done! The only other thing I can complain about is if your pool is pretty dirty then you have to empty it out kinda often, but we got it on clearance for $60, so I really can't complain about it especially since it does all the cleaning for me!KellyAnn

We have an an above ground pool. The small vacuum that came with it broke and parts are, of course, back ordered. We saw this ad and after reviewing the return policy in case we didn't like it, ordered it. From the minute we saw it we were pretty excited but when we finished the first charge and used it we totally FELL IN LOVE with this product, especially the large capacity. It is so easy to use and picks up basically everything. Our pool had considerable algae from not having a vacuum for a couple of weeks but after 2 or 3 uses this picked up 95%! I got this because I thought "there has to be a better way" since we just brush every couple of days. We have an in ground pool, a weekly cleaning with this keeps the bottom clear. The little vacuum robot you leave in the pool just never worked properly for us- it always got stuck in one corner. This vacuum is amazing and keeps the pool clean! This item does only last about 30 minutes, which is why I knocked off a star. It also needs to get cleaned (the filter) frequently during use, which gets less frequent if you're consistent with vacuuming (less to clean up). A better battery life would make this much more convenient.Caro

I had my reservations about this item before making the purchase. However I will tell you this little vacuum is great. I can not believe what it vacuums out of the pool. I have a 22x 7 inground pool, This vacuum can clean the entire pool in a matter of minutes. I was shocked at how useful this product is and how well it is designed. It comes with plastic poles but I used my skimmer aluminum pole which attached directly to this Pool Blaster. The battery lasts pretty long between charges. The filter element catches sand leaves and dirt. The unit comes apart for easy cleaning. I am impressed so far. I have used it several times now and it has accomplished what i need it to do. It does not replace a vac that scrubs or one that is robotic, however for general cleaning of quick spot cleaning this thing is worth every penny. Th only thing I wish it had was a hook to hang it. I don't know how reliable it will be until i have owned a bit longer. So far so good!anonymous

1. 4 sections of the hoses included would not fit into the other hose ends. 2. The vacuum itself does not seem weighted enough to keep it on the bottom. I was excited for this pool vacuum but unfortunately it didn’t come through. I specifically bought it to pick up dirt but it doesn’t do that, it just moves the dirt around in the bottom of the pool. I will be returning.Nicole

I bought this and loved it so much that I just ordered 2 more. I was afraid they would stop making them. That always seems to happen to me. I find something I like and then it gets discontinued. We have an 18' round above ground pool. I had been using the pool vaccum that came with the pool when we bought it last year. Its a heavy, cumbersome long hose that connects to the filter on one end, and the cleaning pole with head on the other end. Well, never again will I have to endure that prehistoric cleaning tool. This little pool vacuum is AMAZING. I charge it with a USB. It snaps right together in seconds. I have 2 cracked vertebrae and this vac is so lightweight! I turn it on and its very quiet. Sometimes I have to put my ear near it to see if its on. This mighty little vaccum sucks up leaves, sand, dirt, everything in the bottom of the pool, except for huge leaves and twigs. All the gunk goes into its own basket filter. When Im done I empty the basket filter just like you would empty a bagless vaccuum cleaner. So my pool filter lasts longer because all this gunk is not even entering it, like it used to with the old prehistoric vaccum. I can vacuum the entire pool perfectly in 20 minutes flat. Its so easy. Its cordless too. I usually dont write reviews but I had to express my satisfaction with this item. If you have a bad back, trouble lifting heavy items, etc then this is the product for you. This little vacuum works great. It gets all that little stuff around the edges and behind the ladder from the bottom of your pool. I was spectacle to buy at first, due to the price, didn't think it would work that great. I'm glad I was wrong. Our pool isn't able to connect a vacuum to the filter so this is perfect for it. In fact showed it to a friend with a pool and she wants one and now they are out of stock. Can purchase from manufacture but it about 40 dollars more. Glad I got mine when I did.Carol

I have no clue if it's good or not. I haven't been able to.use. it says used standard Pool pole, but it does not. it uses a pole that is much larger to fit on to the section. I can not find what size pole to fit itCindy

You would assume that an "Intex branded" pool vacuum would fit an Intex above ground pool, but somewhere along the line Intex changed the fitting threads on the pool return fitting and they are NOT compatible. I had to return it as it was useless. Intex should have kept everything the same instead of changing only one side's threading without changing the fitting on the pool. Terrible business decision on Intex's part. If you bought an Intex pool after Jan 2021, this vacuum will NOT fit guaranteed. If the pool was purchased pre '21 you are just rolling the dice. INTEX should either sell the appropriate fitting for the pool individually, change the fitting back to the original on the vacuum, or recall all of these vacuums. I read several reviews before purchasing but foolishly assumed Intex would have fixed the problem in 2021.Anthony C.

This thing will zip across your pool for about ten minutes but never once did it pick up even the slightest bit of dibris from the pool. Not a leaf, not a bug, not a bit of anything. Then it just sits in one spot and does nothing. It was a complete waste of over a hundred dollars and just sits in the box now. one star because you can't leave a review without giving a rating. Ships in two different packages, within a couple days of each other. Easy set up for both for the most part. The skimmer works great and the robot is amazing. There was a little confusion on what end to hook it up to but it definitely hooks up to the return and then it just takes off. We did have to make a slight adjustment to one of the hoses because it didn't fit completely right to our return but easy fix no big deal. I was a little skeptical when making the purchase but definitely worth it and for a great price too!Karen

This took some time to figure out how to get it to work best (adjusting the float for tubing and getting it hooked up just right). Once I had it right it went to work around the pool. I had to help it along once, but otherwise it covered the pool pretty well. The pool was pretty clean: just a little sand remaining in the bottom. I used it on a 13' above ground pool, so this may have been overkill for the small size of our pool, but it's a pretty cool gadget anyway. The wheels are rubber and provide decent traction along the bottom of the pool.Bryan M

This is a cool little vacuum. I do wish it had a bigger capacity so that it could clean more without having to clear the debris. Other than that, it does a good job cleaning the pool. It is pretty light so you could move it easily too.lee c

The cleaner is a great vacuum, it has suction and easily picks up all the dirt and leaves in our pool. However, there are several issues that make this $600+ purchase a big regret.If you have a ladder as opposed to stairs, the cleaner will wrap itself around them repeatedly; strangling itself until there is no cord left (see photo). There is no way to untangle it from outside of the pool. I find that I have to get in and push the cord to the bottom of the pool, lift the ladder and free the vacuum. I tried putting gallon jugs filled with sand behind the stairs but the vacuum is so strong that it just pushes them out of the way or climbs right over them. Apparently I will now have to spend another $300 on new stairs that it can’t get behind.Another negative is that it is very heavy to lift out of the pool. When it is filled with water it is easily 25 pounds. It also has a power supply on it with a timer so in theory you could just leave the robot in the pool and have it automatically run every few days. The problem is that the power supply is only water resistant and if left out in the rain, water will destroy it. A replacement power supply is $250. So if you do not have a covered area near your pool you will need to build some type of housing to keep it out of the elements, or you can’t utilize this feature. Since I have nowhere to keep it dry I either lug the beast out of the pool when it is finished and find somewhere to store it or detach the power supply and take it inside, leaving the robot in the pool until I need to empty the basket. I have no idea if that’s bad for it or not but lifting it out is a pain especially for someone with a bad back.I really wish I had done more research before I bought it!UPDATE: The belt on one side also comes off at least once per cleaning cycle. I’ve used it less than a dozen times so it can’t be worn out. This is junk and I honestly hate it. I could have purchased 5 Aquabugs for this price. The last one I had lasted 5 years with no issues. I thought I was upgrading. What a waste of money, this was a huge purchase for me.Jessica M.

Used for one summer. Very easy to setup and use. Takes about 2 hours to clean the 12'x25' pool. Does an 80/20 job. If you want a perfect cleaning, do it yourself.Biggest challenge so far is with the controller. The plastic pieces between the faceplate and the switches on the control board are loose. If the controller is moved too much then they fall out of place and the buttons stop working. I then have to open the controller up and reposition the plastic pieces to re-establish the connection between the faceplate and switches on the board.2nd challenge is with the shape of my pool. It is a fiberglass pool with integrated seating. I have to put buckets into two of the seats to prevent the cleaner from going into them. If I don't it climbs into the seats and can't get back out. It also can't handle the shape of the stairs so avoids them. Oddly shaped pool owners beware.A consideration is that you should not rest the cleaner on the scrubbing brushes. Therefore you'll need to figure a way to store it, supported only in the middle if you are not willing to shell out the cash for the carrying caddy.Summary – It's a pool cleaner. It does the job(ish). I'm sure I could have paid less and gotten the same level of performance and possibly without the challenges with the controller or getting stuck.Kailorbas

After 20+ years of cleaning the pool myself, I decided to spring for a robotic vacuum system. I researched all the different brands, and decided that the Dolphin brand was well respected and consistently got high reviews. I have a couple issues that kept me from giving a five star review. First, it's not great at climbing the walls. Sometimes when it goes up to the waterline, it will just lose its grip (suction?), and fall to the bottom of the pool. Also, it sometimes will lose suction while reversing directions, and will start to float up slightly. This causes it to miss debris at times. If I was going to purchase again, I would have bought the next model up. For that additional $125, I would have had a system that "remembers" the shape of my pool. The CC model has to relearn the shape every time it is used. Also, the debris filter/basket often gets "stuck" in the robot if there is sand in the pool. More than once, I have had to use the hose to spray out the robot before I am able to remove the basket. As the owner of an older Gunite pool, I find that the amount of sand that is in the pool to be higher than could be expected for a newer Gunite pool, or a liner or Fiberglas pool.Peter T.

A few things to improve on for Hayward.. 1. Despite trying all adjustments unit does tend to dwell in corners for reasonably long periods (eventually moves itself however) 2. Pool coverage is average, appears to track a similar pattern often despite so called programmed ability so this does not happen? 3. I would recommend including a hose/unit weight as an addition. Previous units I have had include a weight fitted to the closest hose to the vac – assists in keeping it grounded. * Be helpful I feel as the unit does do a bit of side tipping in the beveled corners, and not sticking to floor surface here and there (Tried all three flap adjustments – no different) 4. Should include a hose adaptor or two in differing sizes as the supplied hose would not connect directly to my skimmer plate hole, nor does the regulator valve supplied fit it either. (Too small for hole, perhaps as its made for America not Australia?) 5. Finally, I have a fiberglass pool with rounded floor to wall corners as pictured in the manual.. sorry guys it won't climb at all on any setting.. Fortunately I do not require this function. I bought this after getting a new, very powerful, pump. The vacuum is pathetic and hardly pulls any water through, let alone manages to suck up any dirt. Unfortunately I'm very disappointed.Not Impressed

This is a easy way to clean the bottom of pool It works well. You do need to close off the other inlet as that pug is not part of kit. I used a plastic bag and rubber band to hold the bag on inlet head. Once that was put on the vacuum did it's job, note when cleaning the screen on filter take poll off first I dumped water all over me on my first try. This product works great for small jobs. If you have a few leaves or some dirt at the bottom of the pool it will get them out. It's fairly easy to use. I wouldn't buy it as the only vacuum for your pool, it is meant to be like a spot cleaner. I doesn't come with the eight AA batteries you need to operate, so make sure you buy those as well. Overall this vacuum is a good idea with limited capabilities and limited power. It's great for a small in ground spa where you can't empty the water easily. Do not expect it to clear a large pool, the shallower the better this performs. The head is about the size of my hand fully extended but the small opening prevents any capture of large debris such as big leaves. The compartment feels rather cheap but the pole feels very sturdy however be sure not to overtighten the sections as the plastic adjusters break easily.Perry r

Highly recommend! We have a 20×40 pool with a deep end. It works great! Climbs walls with ease and comes with two different filter types. so far so good……ran it on "slow" for one cycle and the bottom cleaned up considerably. The pool is very curvilinear so as far as going up the sides, the unit works better on the concave curves, not as well on the convex….a traction issue probably. Still we'll satisfiedSteve307
