Yes, it picks up some leaves, but it is not easy to keep on the bottom of the pool (it doesn't weigh enough) and it doesn't have much clearance so leaves can't easily get underneath the unit and get sucked up.All was not a loss because I bought a long hose and an inline leaf catcher to use with this head. What I do instead is swim around the bottom of the pool with the hose and use it like a vacuum without a vacuum head. This works great! I have so much suction that the leaves and other debris get sucked up from quite a wide range (not just where the hose opening is). The cheap plastic one that came with my pool finally snapped off the pole and I wanted one with weights and wheels. This one works great. The handle for it is larger but a 1" PVC pipe fits it perfect. So I drilled a hole for the lock to snap into and It works great, gliding effortlessly along the bottom. The first one that was delivered to my home was missing a piece and I called customer service and a replacement was sent out asap. I got it today and I love this thing. If you go slowly as you are sucking in the sediment on the bottom of the tub it will not move away from the vac as some reviews state. After you pull the plunger back life it slowly away from the area you are working on and pump the water back in the tub the gunk will stay in the filter. Then slowly lower it again to the area you are working on and you will get great results. Moving too quickly will make the debris fly away. Move slowly and it will work great! This thing is garbage. It suctioned itself to the vinyl. I had to run and shut of the pump multiple times and finally gave up. The new design which staggers the brushes allows it to pick up leaves better that my last unit. The bad thing is there are no brushes right out on the outer edges so it does not do a good job of cleaning the bottom corners of the pool.
