20 Best Water Bottle For Road Bike (Jan 2023 Update)

I normally get your basic bicycling water bottles, but they were out of stock when I bought this one. 90% of the time I use these is just for every day water drinking. The anti-spill works well, but it is kind of distracting how the bottle will slowly over the next 15-60 minutes 'creak-creak-creak' as its pressure comes to equilibrium. Sometimes it startlingly comes out of the blue after an hour of being quiet. The twist-to-lock feature is effective, but because of how hard it is to twist, I am unlikely to use it except for deep-in-the-backpack-on-a-long-hike storage – leaving no more casual 'lock' mechanism. So I think I'm likely to stick to the basic pop-and-squirt bottles for future purchases.Mattie F.

I OWN THREE OF THESE, THEY ARE THAT AMAZING!!! This is the best water bottle EVER! I only ever drink water and am super picky with what I drink out of. Every other brand water bottle I have had in the past leaks but this one DOES NOT!! I'm super impressed with the quality of this affordable bottle. The lock to seal it is an awesome plus. It also can be held upside down unlocked and water does not come out. I love the ease of being able to control how much comes out, a small squeeze and so get a little and a big squeeze and a lot comes out. Perfect for workouts, on the go, or around the house. I've used this bottle a few days and love it. I went from an uninsulated bottle to this one and the difference is huge. No more melted ice before I'm halfway done riding. After a couple hours on a slightly warm sunny day, ice pieces still remain. Just to test, I let it sit at room temperature after getting home and it still had ice pieces 2 hours later. I just leave valve open while riding as there's no way for water to splash out accidentally.By Linda M.

I first switched to Polar Breakaway water bottles when attempting to downsize to a 20-ounce size. Two 20-ounces of hydration wasn't really enough for one ride, so since I liked the Breakaway bottle as much as I did, I went ahead and got two 24-ounce bottles. What I particularly like is the strong lid that screws on positively and tightly, the spout that gives generous fluids quickly, and the correct bottle wall thickness that can draw air back into the bottle without waiting long after it has somewhat collapsed from the vacuum created. It's an excellent weight, holds tightly in the bottle cages, looks great, and my hydration drinks aren't contaminated with unwanted flavor. Now I carry one 24-ounce and one 20-ounce which is just enough for me.GeezerGears

The graphics of this bottle wore off within a few uses, but aside from that, great bottle. This is what really matters. Fits perfectly in the bottle holder on my bike. Lightweight. Valve on nozzle works well and allows water to come out when sucking on the end or squeezing the main bottle. Otherwise, no leaks to report yet. I bought some of these bottles to replace my aging Thermos Intak bottles. The Thermos ones are great, but I had a harder time cleaning them, and they never fit quite right in my bottle cages. I used the Polar bottles yesterday on my ride, and I find them much easier to pull in and out of the cages, much easier to drink from while cycling, and the lids are a lot less hassle to open and close. I will update the review once I get a handle on the cleaning, and whether that got easier or harder with these over the Thermos Intak bottles. The Polar ones are supposed to be the same capacity, and I will need to confirm, but it just SEEMS like they hold a little less. Will do some testing.R Morgan

So, I have the Podium Dirt Series and need two new bottles. The Dirt Series did not hold ice long on a bike ride so I opted for the insulated Podium Chill. The first thing I noticed is the bottle does not look as good as the online pictures. The outer case is clear plastic with the "insulating case" in black. Looks cheap to me. After reading some reviews, I conducted my own insulation test. On the kitchen counter of an air conditioned house, I put eight similar-sized ice cubes in both the Dirt Series and Chill bottles. Then I added two cups of same temperature tap water to each bottle. I checked each bottle in 15-minute intervals. After one hour, all the ice was melted in both. So in conclusion – its just a plastic water bottle. Fortunately, I bought them on sale.Mangelow008

This bottle keeps my water colder longer than it advertises. It’s a good sturdy design. I bought a carabiner to help carry it around since it is large. I know you can get a separate carrying bag but I just wanted a handle that I could grab and the carabiner works great. Let me begin on what I like about this company. I love cold water and looked on google how to make water extra extra cold (yes I know how dumb that sounds) but anyways this popped up so I checked out the company. I liked the look of the product but was shell shocked at the price. Because of the I started out with a smaller one I believe the 32 ounce sipper one pink with no straw. I got it and lol it took all of about 1-2 weeks before I shelled out well over 100 for the gallon with my name on it. And I’m not that kind of person to spend ANYTHING on a water bottle. So let me tell you why! The design is beautiful the color on point the quality truly worth it and IT KEPT MY ICE WATER ICE CUBES FROZEN for days!! Ice lovers will know what I mean it’s just worth every single penny. Well a couple weeks after I had ordered it the support thing attached to the straw would not suction anymore…it was weird and since there was no customer service # I contacted them via there customer service email. I had given them my order number and expect a response soon. 2 weeks later I was drinking the water without a top pretty angry I had spent all that $ and not gotten a response!! Well right before I was about to dispute the transaction my partner looked through his email and had seen that he had gotten a reply but it was in the SPAM folder! I actually felt really bad for being angry at them! Actually they had responded right away and even though they didn’t have the lid supper thingy in the same color I could care less I kinda like the black on pink better! So yea my overall review is yes get this bang for your buck good quality company strong 💪 company in customer service seems to care about customer satisfaction excellent product. After the fact I looked in there faq’s where they answer questions you might have and give you a direct email for there customer service (I’m assuming manager). Now I know that’s tons of sugar and where’s the spice right? Well the reason I gave it 4 stars is because it seems some customer Sevice it outsourced and even though it says they are based in Florida and they warehouses there (which is true) the actual product is from China. CHINA and I’m not a fan of customer Sevice coming from another country but the biggest thing in the world (in regards to products) is the fact that the product came from China. It’s just disappointing especially because there products are very very expensive. I hope in the future they pull production in China and try to invest in our fellow Americans. I needed a drinks bottle that I could put a warm drink in for the cold winter months. I had the thin walled version of the bottle the same design so it was an obvious choice to get this. Good weight when empty and does exactly what I need it for. Top buy.Michael

I have multiple brands & styles of stainless steel water bottles. If you like the chug style lid, this one is great. The lid opens at an angle & is magnetic. I wasn’t sure why that was important until I took a drink. These things keep the small lid from going up your nose when you drink. Genius. The lip of spout is also curved to the shape of your lip.CE

Great insulated bottle that holds its temp for a really long time. I filled it half way with ice and then topped up with water, forgot it in my car and it sat for 8 hours in direct sun/90 degree heat and still had some ice when I got back. Coffee will still be hot hours later as well. A small feature that seems trivial, but is actually really nice, is the magnetic cap that holds it away from your face when your drinking. Particularly nice if you’re really gulping down water on a hot day, which the wide mouth spout makes it easy to do. I have several in a couple of different sizes and love them all.EAP

Perhaps the website always crashes when leaving an honest review of one star, but here we go…. again. I purchased the bottle in January of this year and by the 2nd month the bottle has cracks, rust near the straw, it whistles when drinking- so i have to unscrew the bottle to drink, and the elastic tore when I was adjusting it. I reached out to TCW however I was referred to Amazon; funny thing, Amazon only covers one month – and these are issues the TCW doesn’t cover. I’m truly disappointed and would recommend to not purchase this product as there is no compensation or appeasement to rectify any issues you may experience. Perhaps a competitor would validate concerns and step up to the plate when necessary. Save your time and money. Definitely a waste.Margarita

We have tried so many brands that supposed to keep your water cold for a long time well none never did keep it cold for over 2hrs. So I watch alot of YouTube and some of my favorite people was talking about this brand and how they fell in love with it, trust me I was idk but than someone I know got one and told us we had to get us some. Let's just say this had changed my life it keeps your drinks especially water super cold like over 24hrs. I out ice and water in it in the morning wake up next day still ice in it and still super cold plus you can get your name in graved on the bottle to like mine and some you can now get more personalized colors and bands for yours. I bought this water bottle for my uncle because he is always in the heat and neeed something to last. He has his own lawn and gardening service so this was the perfect gift…The water stayed cold for HOURS. My uncle bragged and bragged about his water bottle. This water bottle is fabulous! I use it for my hot yoga classes. The ice stays frozen throughout the class and beyond, around 24 hours. This is, without a doubt, the best water bottle that I have ever used. The wide mouth allows you to add ice cubes, sliced fruit, or whatever else you desire to your water, and the top screws on tightly so you can bring it anywhere with you without worrying about spills. The flexible silicone handle also makes it easy to carry around in your hand, although I would probably recommend getting a bottle sling if you want to attach it to a bike or something. For such a huge capacity, the size really isn't that bulky, and the fact that you don't need to refill very often makes it super convenient and simple to stay hydrated. However, what really amazed me about the HydroFlask was how well it insulates my drinks! I can throw in a few ice cubes, fill it up the rest of the way, and the liquid inside will stay cold for hours as long as the lid is screwed on. I've tested it by leaving it at room temperature for over twelve hours, and there was still frozen ice inside when I checked. The only downside I've noticed is that if you fill it up too much and there is a lot of ice inside, a vacuum somehow forms inside the bottle that makes the lid very difficult to unscrew. I'm not sure how or why this happens, but it probably has something to do with the air at the top of the bottle becoming denser at a lower temperature. That said, it's not that difficult to avoid, and the fact that it happens at all is a great testimony to how tight the seal on this bottle is. Grab one, you won't regret it!lawand.a

My Hydro Flask is the best water bottle I have ever had. With all the different colors and sizes to choose from, I had an easy time finding the one I liked most. They are easy to take with you wherever you go as well. Personalization wise, they are very good with stickers. You can put on whatever stickers you want to make it more personal to you. I have put stickers on mine and none of them are even close to coming off. Just make sure when you put one on, you want it on for good. Another thing I like is how there are many different types of lids that you can use and switch out whenever you want. I have been staying hydrated ever since I got my Hydro Flask because I can carry water with me everywhere I go. The accessibility of a Hydro Flask is just what anyone would need in a water bottle. Most Hydro Flasks range from 30-50 dollars. Which to me, is quite a lot for something you are just going to be putting water in. But let me tell you now, it is worth the money. In the mornings, when I put water and ice in my Hydro Flask, I can leave it somewhere for the whole day and when I come back for it, the ice is still there. Or when it is cold and I’m wanting some hot chocolate, I could bring it in my Hydro Flask and it would stay warm for a really long period of time. None of my other water bottles or containers can do that. The Hydro Flask that I have now has lasted me 3 years and is still in almost perfect condition. The only reason it wouldn’t be in perfect condition is because I drop it every once in a while and it has some scratches and a couple dents. If I was more careful, it would look brand new. The Hydroflask 32 oz wide mouth is an absolute necessity for me! My drinks stay cold, my ice lasts all day and with the large capacity–I'm not constantly needing to refill it . The hot drinks stay hot for hours as well! This is solid, metal and has survived many accidental drops and still looks brand new. Ice easily fits in the wide spout without any extra steps. The handle is solid and perfect for carrying on the go. This water bottle is absolutely leak proof, I can comfortably toss in my bag and know it is not leaking at all. I love the sharp red color, it's vibrant, easy to spot and just a classic pretty color. This water bottle is dish washer safe, making my life even easier being able to toss it on the top shelf and not have to scrub it out by hand every day! Bought this water bottle for my 6yo for those long park/zoo days and be able to actually have cold water the whole day since the wife and I really like out 32oz wide mouth bottles we have. The Goji did that well but it isn't very durable. I understand dents and dings from drops, it's not an invincible bottle, but the very first drop this bottle got a dent that looks like it almost punched through the otter wall. Mine has some dents and dings but none of them look this bad and it has also hit concrete. If you're going to get this bottle I recommend a silicone sleeve for the whole bottle to protect your investment.LeglessPooch

Yes I love it! The dimensions of the Hydro Flask are accurate on the website and that’s how I was able to tell if it would fit in my purse. The Hydro Flask has not leaked or formed any condensation on the outside of the bottle. It’s easy to wash with the recommended bottle brush that I purchased on their website. The brush and flask are beautifully made. I love that the inside of the flask is stainless steal and not plastic. The water does make my purse heavier, but that’s because of the weight of the water. The Hydro Flask is light. I am so happy that I can avoid drinking out of plastic. I use my own filtered water. I purchased the flask from the Hydro Flask website. I have purchased 4 Hydro Flask products — a 21 oz bottle, a 20 oz coffee mug, and two 10 oz wine tumblers. All of them have dented almost like they were cardboard. The bottle was bumped off a counter at work, fell about a foot and a half to the floor, and the dent creased the exterior and ruined the insulation factor. So I got a coffee mug and a bottle boot (along with the wine tumblers), because the insulation is great. The bottle boot helped, but it again fell at work (same distance); the boot made it bounce, but it still sustained a dent so deep it wouldn't stand upright on it's own. The boot helped it stay up, but the mug became more unstable, fell over at work again, and sustained another deep dent. It just wobbles now. And recently one of the wine tumblers fell a foot from a cupboard onto the counter when some items were being put away, and yeah, two more dents. Plastic is more durable, and even some inexpensive (but less insulating) metal bottles I've had have taken far, far more rough treatment and have just scratched. Considering the Hydro Flask products are meant to be outdoors items (which I got them for as well as work), you'd expect something more durable for the premium price.JRW434

Overall the bottle does the job well, and I'm happy with the straw mechanism and its ability to keep my water ice cold long term. However, I'm not happy with the tracking device. It comes out easily, often when it's in my hand, and unprompted. It should click in with more stability than it does, and I'm annoyed that a crucial component to this *expensive* water bottle is destined to fall out one day and break or get lost on a New York City sidewalk. I'm beside myself with frustration with the bottle's construction. The insert doesn't sit flush. So if I sit it on a counter the bottle ALWAYS wobbles. This is ABSURD. Hidrate has been around for YEARS and somehow they found THIS design and THIS flaw acceptable? At THIS price? Never in my life have I consumed so much water (a reasonable amount honestly). I have ADHD and am always forgetting that my water bottle exists even when I keep it right next to me. This one lights up and gets my attention, and gives me all the good shiny feels. Very rewarding and motivating to see your progress. I do forget sometimes to set it down after refilling it, but it's not a huge deal. I've used the app to figure out about how much water I usually get in one drink and I can input the amount manually if I'm feeling like a perfectionist that day. The battery life is amazing, I get about two full weeks out of a single charge on average. I love that there are very affordable replacement parts, which eased my anxiety about spending so much on a water bottle. The straw lid is very well designed. I also purchased a second straw lid in a different color, which I only use for flavored drinks, because I tend to abandon water bottles once the straw starts to hold flavors, as this is a major sensory issue for me. I had a hydro flask and purchased a second straw lid, and even tried marking it to keep it different, but always lost track of which one was the flavored one, especially once the marking would wear off in the dishwasher, and then I was put off by the taste and confusion. Pros:Great bottle, a bit price, works. Cons: Pricey, in app purchase, battery meter sucks I love the insulated bottle keeps ice and water cold. I prefer the chug cap to the straw I have them both bottle is durable! Id consider it on the likes of my yeti. Cons, for the price I think they could have done better. The in app purchase of $5 to pick custom led colors is IMO a bit over reaching. For a hex color picker… I get if if the bottle was half the price it is, but we’re taking about a $70 water bottle! The other issue I have is I don’t get the battery warnings it talks about, maybe I do I don’t get push alerts but I would be better if the percentage would be on the Home Screen of the app. I’ve used it for about 2 weeks non stop water only, rinsed it with soap and water no smells yet! Another downside is the rubber bottom, it leaves marks on any wood surface! Also my glass mouse pad so be ware! Few things would make it perfect, but those things sadly either are not there or cost an additional 4.99….Akash P.

The joint is too big/lose and does not hinder water from leaking. it is so big that it is impossible to put it in a better way and fix it myself. It is the second Decathlon bidon that I buy that has that problem, do something!Albin

I bought two of these for a long bike ride. I really like the size, the valve and how they sit in my hand but…the seal around the neck of the bottle fails. On one bottle it failed from new, but the other took a month or so. They're not cross threaded. If they're screwed on really tight they leak really badly so I guess it's deforming the softer plastic of the bottle. If they're just done up they may not leak, though they may also come loose.Lindsay

The lid doesn’t seal properly and you are left with sports drink residue over your bike. I saw another review saying the same, so perhaps a fault in the manufacturing process or perhaps just a QC issue where a few bad apples made it through and I was just unlucky.keith

I bought the camo and the purple and orange bottle with the leaf pattern. For some reason the watergate cap on the camo bottle is easier to pull out and drink from than the watergate cap on the gray top. The one on the gray top is extremely difficult to pull out with either your teeth and even using your fingers. Highly recommend the bottles with the black tops. Otherwise the bottles themselves work great. They keep water from cold to cool up to 3-4 hours.Nick

Definitely my favorite bottle. The cap creates a gush of hydration that can really refresh your dry mouth and elevate your effort and drive. Insulation is key! Not the color I was dying for (my fav was sold out) but I’m still glad I bought this for my long rides.A E.

Most issues stem from the terrible cap design. The amount of pressure needed to squeeze the bottle and/or suck from the cap to get any liquid out is asinine. And when it finally does, it's like a fire hose shooting at your face. Because of this, they needed to make the bottle easier to squeeze, but the soft, slippery plastic used makes it next to impossible to grip properly, and I always feel like I'm going to drop it. Also because of the cap, the bottle doesn't suck air in properly to return it back to a normal shape. With all these issues, it makes this the only bottle I own that readily slips out of my gorilla xt bottle cages. Trimming the corners of the center X where the liquid comes out seems to resolve many of the issues, but it's just bad design from the ground up.CP3

So, I have the Podium Dirt Series and need two new bottles. The Dirt Series did not hold ice long on a bike ride so I opted for the insulated Podium Chill. The first thing I noticed is the bottle does not look as good as the online pictures. The outer case is clear plastic with the "insulating case" in black. Looks cheap to me. After reading some reviews, I conducted my own insulation test. On the kitchen counter of an air conditioned house, I put eight similar-sized ice cubes in both the Dirt Series and Chill bottles. Then I added two cups of same temperature tap water to each bottle. I checked each bottle in 15-minute intervals. After one hour, all the ice was melted in both. So in conclusion – its just a plastic water bottle. Fortunately, I bought them on sale.Mangelow008

Comparing this 21 fluid ounce variant to the 24 ounce variant. The do hold different volumes, and this one forgoes those 3 ounces of thermal insulation in favor of water capacity. In testing water from the same starting temperature on the same day, the 21oz unit kept the liquid appreciably colder than the 24oz variant; the 24oz's water had equilibrated to ambient temperature after about 2hr cycling outdoors (~20°C, mildly sunny), while the 21oz's water remained cool. As the 21oz variant, this one fits well within my Specialized water bottle cage, securely but also easy to remove from the correct angle. The nozzle is easy to clean, including the inner faces of the spout jet. The inside of the lid is a simplified design over CamelBak's design from 10y ago, and is markedly easier to clean. There is a removable element that greatly eases cleanup. The twist-to-seal function works as expected, and I am satisfied with it. Both this and the 24oz. variant are good products; one holds more water, the other holds its cooler for longer.Boston biker

Everyone in the family has a Sigg bottle. They are great for sport, school, work and leisure. Anywhere we go, we take them with us and we don't need to buy water in plastic bottles. On top the water tastes much better out of the Sigg bottle than out of a plastic bottle. And they last.dag_iii
