Best Work At Home Laptop (2025 Update)

I personally purchased this same MacBook Air (MBA) but with 512GB of storage. It's the same exact unit. I liked it so much I purchased this one for my wife. She didn't need the extra GPU core or storage space. Overall, she has enjoyed this notebook more than the Wintel system we previously had. Apple's battery life estimates are more accurate, they're actually a little on the conservative side. Our previous Wintel systems (Dell XPS 13 2-in-1) were advertised with 14 hours of streaming battery life. The only way to hit that number was to turn the screen brightness down to 25%, turn off Bluetooth, flipping the screen around so the keyboard and trackpad were off, putting the system into power efficiency mode, and using MS Edge or the Netflix app (which limits streaming to 720p in Windows). Even then we couldn't ever fully get the 14 hours of advertised battery life and that was with 1080p notebooks. The MBA has a higher resolution display, a processor that performs better than the 11th gen Core i7 CPUs in our other units (that also had 16GB of RAM), and we can easily push 15 hours of real-world use with our systems. We no longer must bring a charging brick wherever we go. The battery life is longer if you just stream video content or play videos that have been downloaded. Another surprise with the MBA was the speaker quality. I'm not sure what Apple is doing but their speakers are better than what's in most 17" notebooks. The speakers in our previous 13" system were terrible, these put those to shame. Apple also put a faster SSD in these. Writing and reading large files take less time, the SSDs in our MBAs are almost 3X faster than our other systems (which were more expensive). The webcam is passible, I wish it were better. The image processor in the M1 helps with that though. Everyday performance with the 7 GPU M1 is fine, even for mobile gaming. macOS can now run iPad and iPhone apps, if the developers unlock them, and we haven't had any issues with that. 8GB of RAM is more than enough for everyday use with the M1. Even when we are stressing our systems, they only use 6GB of RAM. My only complaint is that the design is dated. It's essentially the same design that Apple released in 2018, just with a better keyboard. You get the same two USB4/TB3 ports, the same display, the same trackpad, the same physical webcam, and a better keyboard. I wouldn't normally have any issues with a classic design but it's almost 4 years old now and it has been cloned to death. Every other major PC maker has released a notebook that's a silver, dark gray, or gold slab of aluminum. I want color again with my PCs, like the old iBook G3 days. Even a white system would be different than the same three colors Apple has stuck with for far too long. The screen bezels are large, and the system is begging to be updated with a 14" display. Slimming the bezels while keeping the same form factor would allow for a 14" display, like Apple did with the 14" MacBook Pro. But, for the price of the system, it's hard to beat. The price-to-performance ratio of the baseline M1 MBA isn't matched with Windows notebooks and you get the added benefit of running macOS on Apple's hardware. It's powerful enough for photos and video editing yet efficient enough to last all day. This fan-less design is great and I'm excited to see what Apple does next.Pablo

I'm coming into the M1 Mac game a little late. I waited until this year to pick up a new MacBook Air (MBA) with Apple's M1 chip. I opted for the 512GB model because I wanted to store more downloaded movies and music. I'm not going to get into macOS, that is a solid OS that I like. I enjoy how integrated macOS with my iPhone, iPad, and content across everything. What I will go into is the design and performance of the M1 MBA. First off, it is worth paying for the extra 512GB of storage. Apple should start the MBA at 512GB but here we are. I'm able to store over 50 movies (at 1080p or 4K) and some music playlists without getting close to filling up the space. The design of the MBA is the same as it's been for a while. It's dated and has been cloned to death. The system is carved out of a single piece of aluminum and it's solid, I just wish Apple had updated these along with the internal. The screen is the same, the keyboard is improved, the trackpad is the same, the two USB-C ports are now USB4 and not just Thunderbolt 3, everything is pretty much the same except for what's inside. 2022 should bring a redesign of the MBA, I will probably sell this one off once that happens. The only thing to really talk about with this unit is the M1 SoC. You may scoff at the 8GB of RAM but it is more than enough for the majority of people. The M1 is a solid SoC offering an improvement over the previous Intel chips, both in the CPU and integrated graphics, while drastically increasing efficiency. The MBA can export a color-graded 4K video faster than real time unless you use ProRes. Even then it's faster than similar 11th and 12th gen Intel chips. I've edited photos, videos, and websites on my MBA without issues. The M1 doesn't stutter and completes everything faster than my previous notebook that had a faster clocked 11th gen Core i7 with 16GB of RAM. Apps open almost instantly, and everyday tasks are handled with ease. The pleasant thing about the M1 is that it doesn't require a cooling fan. The MBA is a quiet machine, unlike my previous notebook that would fire up its cooling fans when opening Edge/Chrome. The efficiency of the M1 is astounding. My system always instantly turns on when opening the lid, it has yet to discharge when in sleep mode (and I left it for two weeks without charging), and I'm easily getting 15+ hours of real-world usage. That's watching downloaded videos, streaming movies, working in Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), surfing the web in both Safari and Chrome, playing some of the Lego games through Steam, and listening to music. Apple has rated the MBA at 15 hours of web browsing and 18 hours of video playback, I think those numbers are a tad generous. So far, this is my favorite Mac notebook despite the M1 being a year old now and the MBA using a 5-year-old design. It's not as powerful as the new Pros and doesn't have the same quality screen but most people don't need a MacBook Pro. The baseline 14" MBP is only 20-30% faster than the MBA despite costing almost twice as much. Don't get the 13" MBP if you want something more powerful. It's the same hardware but adds a cooling fan and costs $300 more. That cooling fan isn't worth it, even for sustained workloads. You're better off getting a 14" MBP if you truly need the added performance. The only things the 13" MBP offer are the touch bar (which is being phased out anyways) and more battery life due to the thicker case. Stick with the 13" MBA. It's a bit thinner and easier to carry around, it's also nice having a silent system that still gets great battery life and can perform everyday tasks with ease while keeping up with offerings from Intel (without requiring the extra power).Pablo

MacBook Air 2022 is perfect for students. Students can study different courses, this can go from economics to computer science. The laptop is suitable for any course that a student can follow. I do computer science and I notice that the MacBook can run several applications at the same time, and this is a very big advantage over old Windows computers. But also, for students studying economics. For example, the MacBook can easily work with Word, PowerPoint, Excel and much more at the same time. M1 Small chip. Immense progress. I think that the brand new M1 processor made by Apple itself is one of the biggest upgrades to the new MacBooks. In the previous models, Apple used the intel processors that are also in the old Windows computers, but in the new MacBook this is no longer the case. Personally, I notice that the Macbook stays much cooler during heavy downloads, and it also stops making noise. I also noticed that the processor could open apps much faster. In my opinion, I find the completely new design of the MacBook Air 2022 very astonishing! The design is made by different metals and glasses that ensure the Macbook will not brake after a little fall. I take the MacBook to school every day and I notice that the metals in the design of the MacBook make the laptop last much longer, especially when we talk about the outside of the laptop. The design also fits 100% with the rest of Apple's products, the MacBook comes in 3 different colors that perfectly matches with the latest iPhones and iPads. Finally, I recommend this product to anyone, especially college students. This product is also 100% suitable for people who are involved in large projects in their daily lives, such as photographers or architects, especially because the MacBook contains the M1 processor that can handle a lot without unexpected annoying bugs. “Power. Overall, spec wise, this laptop is hard to beat for the price when on sale. All aluminum case feels super well built and is packed with features. Backlit keyboard is nice and feels amazing The screen is super colorful and bright (400 nits) Great cpu Fast charging and decent port selection. Where I question the build is….I got one and the screen did not sit 100% flush along the body. When the lid is open, you can see on the right side there is a gap in the corner between the screen lid and body and in the left side, it sits lower. This by a few mm but still noticeable The trackpad also, for this price, should be a glass trackpad but it's not. The click is nice and is super precise but, at 1100$ when not on sale, should be glass. It also sits uneven slightly in the body as the right bottom corner sits slightly lower than the other corners that are flush. Onboard ram, why……no upgradability but should be good for a few years. Just don't buy this with the intent of future proofing your purchase. 8 GB should be fine for most but not if you're into intense video editing for example. Overall, on sale, very good buy even with those questional build issues. They are minor and don't take away from the overall experience. Maybe just get an extended warrantyCdnman

Purchased this as a backup browse / work device. Love the design and performance. However, the HP x360 trackpad… is the worst I've ever encountered. Efforts to resolve with Support did not work and the tech acknowledged the problem after sharing a video. Simple summary: you cannot left click and then reliably use the trackpad to highlight, move or interact with the screen. Don't think that's a big deal? Try editing a document or creating a presentation where you have to move things around on the screen. It even sabotages basic browsing — often the "two-finger scroll" is flaky… but the left-click / drag for page scroll bars is completely broken. All this is solved if I plug in a USB mouse, but I didn't buy a laptop designed for self-contained use to have to plug-in essential hardware. And for context, none of our other laptops (Lenovo, Dell, Apple, or MS Surface) suffer from the input problems encountered with the HP trackpad. The other devices just work. I wanted to love this device and give it high marks for battery, speed, display, sound, and material build quality. But the Trackpad/Touchpad has ruined my experience. If the follow-up support (promised by HP) fails to resolve this issue, it's going back to best buy. You've been warned.Rfh01tx

I have mixed feelings about this PC. I actually wish I could return it for the smaller version I originally wanted, but I am out of the country and I assume it would pose a big hassle. Pros: Size of the screen is good for excel and using apps side by side and it works acceptably well with the hp pen (sold separately). For a student it's useful in this regard. The body looks and feels nice and it seems sturdy enough to survive being carried around daily. HDMI, USB and USB-C ports are a big plus and gives you variety. Touch screen and 360 movement gives you multiple viewing and use options. Cons: It's a 15.6" PC but somehow it's longer than it's peers, meaning it doesn't fit in any and every laptop sleeve. HP has special products that fit it though. The extra space used for the speakers on the side is not very useful since the audio is average and the keyboard placement of the home, end and delete keys is a pain and takes some getting used to. Too many times my curser jumps around the page when typing because of this (it really drives me crazy). There is a large speaker below the laptop that doesn't make much sense as even on solid surfaces the sound gets muffled. If this was rectified, the audio would pair well with the large screen for movie viewing. The RAM is not stellar and I've had the laptop freeze on me a few times already so be mindful if you like to run multiple apps at once and don't shut down daily. It runs hot pretty fast when in use and because of the large and Long size, plus the almost non-existent screen boarder makes using it in tablet mode very clunky and annoying. the touch screen reacts to any skin, so an accidental touch messes many things up. Overall, I wish I could be happy about this purchase but unfortunately I'm not. This doesn't mean it's a bad device, just not the right one for me.Sterlin

I was a Microsoft Surface Book 2 (15 inch) user that needed a new laptop and tried the Surface Laptop Studio as an upgrade. I had a ton of issues with that laptop and had to return it even if I liked the 2 in 1 functionalities of the laptop. Since I had to return the laptop and already was using mostly Apple Products (Apple Watch, iPhone, and iPad) I decided to bite the bullet and fully invest into the Apple Ecosystem by buying this laptop. I don't regret it. For starters, while the Surface Laptop Studio had a beautiful display, this MacBook still manages to beat it in colors. Plus MacOS takes better advantage of the 120hz display than Windows does with system animations so it is more noticeable that the screen is more nimble than the standard 60hz displays. The colors are extremely accurate and the mini LEDs in this display make it so you have near OLED levels of true blacks when displaying dark/contrasty images. The only gripe I have with the display is I still am not the biggest fan of the notch but it is something that you get used to pretty quickly. The performance of this laptop is another thing that is a sight to behold. While Apple silicon is still having some hiccups it does really work way more efficiently than the outgoing Intel processors. The processor in this MacBook stays impressively cool and doesn't get no where near as hot as the previous laptops I have had along with the fans seemingly never really having to kick in. Along with that, for the first time I have a laptop that doesn't have to throttle its processing power to make sure that the battery can last a decent amount. This makes it so I don't have to carry a laptop charger with me at all times even if I am doing something more intense than a word document or web browsing. Other notable things about this laptop is the impressive quality of sound and even bass coming from the built in speakers. The build quality is phenomenal especially when you compare it to the Surface Laptop Studio that I had before this (that laptop had a squeaky hinge and some flex to the laptop which was unsettling). The keyboard on this laptop is one of the best and on the same level as Microsoft's Surface line, but the track pad on this MacBook is something that still has to be beat. I do wish this had something of 2 in 1 capabilities and even just a touch screen because sometimes its just easier to touch it on the screen instead of moving the cursor around to get it where you want. Otherwise this is an impressive laptop that is great if you are productivity focused. It can run some games extremely well but due to not being compatible with the vast majority of PC games, gaming is one of the things that makes up this laptop's archille's heal.Chipped007

Let me just say, that at the current sale price (which may or may not be still going on at the time you read this review), this laptop is an absolute steal! I've been a lifelong Windows user and never even looked at Apple computers, but recently, I've been looking for a new laptop and after trying a couple of highly rated Windows laptops, found them to be disappointing, especially their battery life and thermal and acoustic performance, since virtually all laptops in the higher performance tier are still too hot and loud, with mediocre battery life. So, out of frustration with the current PC laptop market, I decided to give an Apple laptop a try. I knew going in that they have great battery life, performance, and supposedly run cool and quiet. I picked up the MacBook Pro 14, and I was simply blown away! Yes, it runs fast. I do some video editing and graphic design, and it handles Photoshop and DaVinchi Resolve flawlessly. I also play some games, mostly strategy, and it runs them too! What I like the most, is how it doesn't lose any performance when running on battery, vs plugged in. Sure, playing a game like Cities Skylines will likely drain the battery in 2-3 hours, but it's amazing to actually be able to play it, with high resolution and graphics settings, on a laptop, with no cables attached! And it's smooth. The screen is beautiful. The mini LED is basically like having an OLED colors and contrast, but 3-4X higher brightness. It looks stunning. The computer is virtually silent. The fans stay off 95% of the time (with my use), and even when playing a demanding game, I only know they're running by checking the system monitoring software. I can't hear them unless I put my ear right next to the keyboard. It's seriously impressive. Yes, at 100%, they can get somewhat loud, but I can only get them to run at 100% by forcing it in software, I don't know what you have to do on this laptop use to get them to run this fast. And the laptop can get a little warm at the top of the keyboard, but not uncomfortably hot like most gaming Windows laptops. It's really, barely warm, and again, only when pushing it a bit, in most day-to-day tasks, it stays at the room temperature. I can probably keep going with details for a while, there is so much to like about this machine, but I want to respect everyone's time, so let me just add a couple of quick points. The speakers are great. The web camera is better than most, it's very good, the design is clean and pleasant, the ports are good, and the fingerprint scanner works the first time, every time… it's an excellent laptop. I want to also mention a couple of negatives. Nothing too bad, and I still live the laptop overall, but nothing is perfect. The first thing that I'm not 100% happy with, is MacOS. I can get all the software I need, and it runs great, but Apple is still a bit too tyrannical with their software, requiring a bunch of passwords, and limiting your customization options. It can also be a bit glitchy, sometimes virtual buttons get stuck, or the OS can feel slower than this laptop actually is with its animations, or just in general the way it handles RAM. Same apps can sometimes launch in half a second, and at other times take 6-7 seconds to load, it can feel inconsistent. You can run Windows on it, with Parallels Desktop, or one of several free VM options, which I thought would make it perfect, but keep in mind that you can only use an ARM version of Windows, so not everything works on it too. Still, very impressive seeing Windows 11 running on it just as good if not better than many Windows laptops, even in the Virtual Machine. The next thing, that's just kind of meh, is keyboard. It's not bad, the keys feel nice, but its backlight might look uneven under certain angles, which cheapens the look of the machine a bit, IMO. It looks fine from above, though. I usually keep the backlight off for this reason. Not a bad keyboard, but there is also nothing "magic" about it. I've seen better, and I've seen worse. And finally, the build quality can be a hit or miss. The first unit that I got had a slightly misaligned lid (against the bottom half, when closed). I exchanged it, and the second unit was creaking around the keyboard when opening and closing the lid. I returned it too and almost gave up on them, but a few days later, decided to give it just one more shot with a different color (the first two were Space Grey). I picked up a Silver model, and this one is perfect. So if you get one and something doesn't feel right, you might want to check another unit to make sure you get the good one, or just don't be picky like me. I assume most people will never notice or questions things like that. One final thought. This Macbook Pro 14, even at the base level, is a real deal. It's worth every penny they ask for it, and if you can get it on sale, or a good open box unit, it's probably the best value out there at the moment!drumnbass

If you Um'd and Ah'd like I did for a long time over how you can get the best value for price out of a MacBook, this is the review for you haha. Disclaimer: I got my MacBook Pro (14" M1 Pro 2021) in a 10% off Sale. Which was $100 more than a M2 Air spec'd up (16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, 10-Core GPU) Reasons I picked this model over a Spec'd Air: – 512GB storage (factory standard) Means I can install Windows (via Bootcamp – a built in MacOS feature) and not worry about either OS not having enough room to unpack, install, temporarily store etc. Also means if I don't have access to my cloud storage in the future, I don't have to worry about dumping files to make room (Particularly good for Remote Working and Travellers) – 16GB RAM (factory standard) I can have multiple applications running and not notice. ie. I currently have a Live Background running, 9 different tabs open on safari, Apple Music hosting on my Mac but streaming to a Speaker all without it the CPU fan even turning on. – 14-Core GPU (factory standard) I can actually play my Sims 4 & it's expansions with no sacrifice to frame rates or smooth playability; plays better than it was on my Windows Tower with a GTX1650 GPU. Also good for Future Proofing, with everything getting more and more graphic heavy, I will be able to use this MacBook for quite a few years without needing to upgrade. (which if you're paying $$$$ for a computer? You don't want to be doing it again anytime soon.) – Interconnectivity Apple (in my opinion) has cornered the market on seamless synchronisation between their products, especially in the Household section. Automations and Family Sharing are really user friendly once you adjust. Having an iPhone & a HomePod myself, it's amazing the way I can handoff music, or create an automation from any device (for any device haha) and it not be difficult; even our Sony TV utilises the inbuilt Remote App on my iPhone, and works well with Airplay. So I just received this the other day and I can already tell I will definitely love this laptop! I am coming from a Macbook Air M1(not to put that laptop down), I just needed a Window's device for .NET development. As an added bonus I figured I could do some more gaming. This laptop is quite capable and offers a good experience with Windows. Games run very smoothly from what I've seen (this includes Minecraft, Phasmophobia, Spore, Starcraft the original and II, and I wouldn't be surprised to find many other games that work well). AMD did a great job with the Ryzen 6000 series and the fan noise does not come on too frequently and when it does it is not high pitched and annoying. The screen is nice, I have not used this outside yet but I think it would be ok in most cases especially in the shade. The battery life seems to be pretty good(definitely not as good as my macbook, but I expected this). The laptop is reasonably weighted and I don't have any problems lugging this around. The price of $795(after tax) is very good for a laptop of this quality. The keyboard is not as good as a macbook keyboard in my opinion, but honestly that opinion could change given time to adjust. The trackpad however is… ok I guess. I plan to use a mouse most of the time anyway. I am really glad that this laptop comes with 16GB of RAM as the only option, that is something I was looking for. I currently use this laptop for some personal home office/college use. I'll start off with the only two negatives I currently have. I know I chose the 15.6" because I use the heck out of a 10-key, but the size makes it pretty heavy in tablet mode, which I also wanted…..Therefore, if you can forgo the 10-key, I would recommend the smaller laptop if you will use tablet mode often. Also, like other reviews have stated, the lip around the edge of the screen is very flat when closed, which kind of makes it difficult to lift to open. Otherwise, I like everything else about the laptop. I bought it during the March spring sale and I feel you get a lot of bang for your buck. Plus Lenovo also gives additional discounts for First Responders/Teachers/Nurses, etc., which is awesome and can be used with other discounts! Set up was very intuitive. Screen quality/pixels are nice and crisp in my opinion. Sound/volume is fine for my needs. I like the track pad. My old laptop didn't have a track pad with integrated mouse buttons, so that's nice! Windows 11 is interesting but as usual it's fairly user-friendly. So far the 8gb ram is fine and nothing lags, but I don't do any sort of gaming. I bought the Lenovo Active Pen 2 separately (~$50) and it pairs very easily and works well. The pen also has an erase button which is very nice. You do have to have your hand off the screen to use properly, which is hard, but easily solved by a bit of fabric under my writing hand. The pen also doesn't slide as easily as I thought it should. Overall, I would buy the laptop again and would recommend it and Lenovo to anyone.KayHill

After possibly 6 months of learning and shopping for a 15 inch laptop, I am very happy to say that I made the right choice with this IdeaPad 5, with i7 and 16 GB RAM. I am not a professional reviewer, but here it goes. Overall Appearance & Feel The appearance is elegant and sleek. The case does not feel cheap and the friction on the lid allows you to position the lid angle anywhere from 0° (closed) to about 160° and holds strong. There are a significant amount of interface ports. However, it did NOT come with the charging port as shown in the photos and description. You can only charge using the only available UCB-C port and provided high-power charger – a typical USB-C plug-in charger will not charge the device. The keys could have a bit more stroke, but not too bad. They have a very minimal "tactile" feeling. One issue is the backslash key is nearly aligned against the top edge of the "Enter" key thus is is often inadvertently pressed. Why did they place the keys edge-to-edge? The trackpad is flawless, feels great and recognizes all gestures. However, I mostly use a Bluetooth mouse. The touchscreen works well. However, it often just stops working and requires either a reboot or go to Device Manager to disable and re-enable the HID Touchscreen device to get it working again. This happens maybe twice a week and is frustrating, but have not found a solution other than the manual remedy mentioned above. The camera on top of the lid has a mechanical shutter which I really like for privacy. Performance This laptop has no latency issues when using any of the basic office productivity applications, streaming videos, and web browsing. I can keep MANY apps open at once without any performance degradation. Start-up is extremely fast; the app-loading and commands are nearly instant, Amazing! The speed of this laptop is very impressive. It only takes about 5 seconds to start Windows from shutdown, I assume only if Windows "Fast Startup" is enabled, which it is. The finger print ID directly on center with the power button works flawlessly. I use it exclusively during login, I don't even remember my established password. Battery Excellent battery life. Windows automatically goes to sleep upon lid close, which is standard. Upon opening, you will need to enter your password or scan your fingerprint to unlock. I keep it generally plugged in, so not sure of full battery life. Sound Not impressive, but just ok for a 15 inch laptop. I am an audiophile so I would never listen to music on this thing. Connectivity More ports than other competition. I was especially looking for a full size SD Card reader because I do a lot of photo and video editing from SD Card storage. VERY DISAPPOINTING and MISLEADING that the laptop does not come with a dedicated charging jack, as shown in the image and description. The charging is done on the ONLY available USB-C port, thus you cannot simultaneously connect USB-C device while plugged-in. When not plugged in, I believe this port can deliver power to other mobile devices. Display Just ok. The brightness is not so good. For example, don't expect to do much work on a sunny day working in a park. My house has lots of windows and screen contents hard to see. The screen could be brighter. I'm not a gamer, so, otherwise, it suits me fine. Final Thoughts I would recommend this laptop for students and professionals, but not for serious gamers or graphic and video editing. My Surface Pro 4 was coming up on six years and was down to about 1.5 hours of battery life. I bought this as a replacement and I am happy with the purchase. The battery life isn't world-beating, but it is still pretty good. The performance is vastly improved. The new hardware and updated Core I5 provide fast wake-up and facial recognition. The quality, power, and portability are still there – and those are the things that attracted me to Surface Pro originally. You NEED the type cover. It has always struck me as a marvel of engineering. It is a satisfying typing experience in a very small package. The backlit keys are also appreciated. The pen is less important for most people, although annotating your slides when presenting can be useful – and cool. I use mine rarely, but I am not an artist. Overall, this is a solid system that I have no qualms about recommending to those who want a top-shelf Windows tablet.Ricky

This is a good surface pro to buy (i7/16GB/512GB). The black model looks cool. my previous surface was a surface 4 and it got replaced with a surface 5. It was platinum/metallic. The black one looks pretty nice. I recommend getting 512GB instead of 256GB as 256GB is getting pretty cramped and will wear out faster. Its better to wait for the 7+ to come out and be available due to the removable SSD and the upgrades processor. But due to shortage that is hard to come by. I got a $400 discount on this 512GB model making it $2149. Yes the 7+ has an upgradable SSD, but considering I was able to get the 512GB model, I wouldn't need the SSD upgraded any time soon. compared to a 2 core 4 thread i5 in the Surface pro 5, this 4 core 8 thread i7 in the surface pro 7 runs circles around my previous surface. I do a lot of video recording in class, ands this allows me to be able to record class and do work at the same time without issues. I can record zoom calls (windows button+G) or record session inside the web browser (windows+g) for classes that don't auto record. This is good for studying as I can review classes. I use Microsoft onenote a lot. And this is a must have app for the microsoft surface pro. I learned my lesson, I will record videos only to external to save the life of the SSD. This is my 4th surface now. Now real failures with previous models other then the battery will need to be replaced after 3-4 years and this is actually easy to do, but microsoft may replace the device for free if the battery expands the screen. (This rare and does not happen that often, but any lithium ion battery can get puffed if too hot for long periods of time so take care of your laptops and phones and tablets and do not over charge especially with the case on) The Surface Pro 7 i7 has a build in fan to keep cpu cool. Just beware the surface can get hot, so avoid using a case whenever possible. In most cases, a case is not needed. Just remove the case when not needed (like at home) to pop back the stand to help the surface to keep cool when running or charging. Do not charge when its in a back pack as this is bad for the battery. Also make sure you turn off before you put in the bag (just push power button). The most unique feature of this laptop is a special feature of the very large – some might say massive – 3" x 5" trackpad (my SurfaceBook's track pad is slightly larger than 4" x 3" for a much larger device as a comparison). When triggered this feature turns the trackpad into a keypad for quick data entry – this keypad can be activated in two ways – clicking and holds for a short press, on the upper right activates the key pad for what ever app you have open and also deactivates the keypad functionality once you are done with it. If you slide right from the upper left corner not only do you activate the keypad, but you also open the calculator app within the operating system. This upper left area can also be used to toggle the brightness of this keypad functionality between two brightness levels. Overall, I find that this device fits well for anyone who needs basic office automation functionality, along with some light picture and video editing capabilities along with portability. This could be professionals who are on the go, or students, or even parents who have a need for computing on the go. This is a very nice device and it would suit a large number of users and use cases. I added a 4th external monitor via the HDMI port and was not able to drive this monitor with the other 3 – which is what I expected to happen but I had to give it a shot (on my home system this monitor is run via a USB based DisplayLink adapter). The most unique feature of this laptop is a special feature of the very large – some might say massive – 3" x 5" trackpad (my SurfaceBook's track pad is slightly larger than 4" x 3" for a much larger device as a comparison). When triggered this feature turns the trackpad into a keypad for quick data entry – this keypad can be activated in two ways – clicking and holds for a short press, on the upper right activates the key pad for what ever app you have open and also deactivates the keypad functionality once you are done with it. If you slide right from the upper left corner not only do you activate the keypad, but you also open the calculator app within the operating system. This upper left area can also be used to toggle the brightness of this keypad functionality between two brightness levels. Overall, I find that this device fits well for anyone who needs basic office automation functionality, along with some light picture and video editing capabilities along with portability. This could be professionals who are on the go, or students, or even parents who have a need for computing on the go. This is a very nice device and it would suit a large number of users and use cases. The only improvement I could wish for would be a touchscreen, but that would likely increase the price tag a bit.dnottingham4

This little machine is a workhorse. Bought it to do simple tasks – but turns out even with just 8gb RAM and the M2 chip, I am able to work on large Photoshop graphic files, and even videos with ease. The 256 gb hard drive is more than enough, and any additional storage needed can be put on an external drive or the cloud. My wife has an older model with the slanted slim design, but this redesigned shape with an even, yet still sleek base is fantastic and kind of rugged looking – a plus for me. The Liquid Retina display gives you sharp colors and image – especially when working with photos and graphics where crisp edges are essential. Going back to the Magsafe charging was the best thing Apple did – quick snap connecting, along with the fingerprint login are great when you're constantly on the go. I've never been overly impressed with the audio of any laptop – but this baby's sound is more crisp than any I've ever owned. And the price for this machine is on point making it a solid purchase. This is my first MacBook and I’m in love! This is the new MacBook Air with M2 chip in Midnight 2022 model. I ordered mine with 67W USB-C Power Adapter for $20. My MacBook is the standard model. No upgrades. I love it. It’s so lightweight. The color is fantastic! I’m not seeing all of the fingerprints that others are mentioning. Screen is large enough to watch movies comfortably. I enjoy the Touch ID. Not having to enter your password every time you lock your MacBook is a great function. I do wish it was also touchscreen like my Samsung. I’m still getting used to the different functions of the Mac but it’s pretty easy to use. One downside is that I’ll have to purchase the correct adapter so that I can sync everything from my iPhone to the MacBook. The phone charger doesn’t fit the MacBook. Not sure why that doesn’t automatically populate when you connect it to your Apple ID. That’s my only negative opinion about it. I originally wanted the MacBook Pro though, after looking at the price I determined that this was a better choice for me. The MacBook Pro is really heavy. Although it does have that really nice large screen the weight and the price for the standard wasn’t for me. Again, I love it! I love iOS and iPadOS. I haven't had an iPad in a few years, so I thought that MacOS would be a great experience to dive into. However, it was not really the seamless experience I expected. I am not sure about the appeal of MacBooks themselves. They are kind of buggy, and extremely limited in what they can do out of the box unless you buy the multitude of overpriced and overhyped Apple-specific accessories. Yes, it was buggy lol. I was very surprised by this. When I say buggy, there would be minor issues with the device restarting itself in the middle of browsing. This would happen when I would try to watch a video on it. I'd never be browsing a million sites at once, just the video application (youtube, netflix, hulu, take your pick), and it would crash and reset. If I tried casting from it, certain screen pixels would become stuck. I have never seen that before. Seems like it happens to MacBook users, but hard pass for me. When it comes to my iPhone, I can stomach it when it is just a phone case, or mobile charger station, or a bluetooth keyboard to enhance productivity. When it becomes $400 docks or $50 cables to increase productivity and efficiency, specifically to just extend a monitor, that is just insane. It is simpler, if you dish out the $2000 for a MacBook Pro. But that's not a price jump worth it to me just so I can use, let alone simply enjoy my MacBook on two displays. Beautiful device, but it just does not live up to it's price point compared to what you could get for an FHD/QHD gaming PC or laptop, or any number of productivity laptops that are sub the $1,200 price point. I ended up going with an iPad Pro 11. I will take the touch screen capabilities and better display any day, especially when it is $500 less.trifleagency

So I just received this the other day and I can already tell I will definitely love this laptop! I am coming from a Macbook Air M1(not to put that laptop down), I just needed a Window's device for .NET development. As an added bonus I figured I could do some more gaming. This laptop is quite capable and offers a good experience with Windows. Games run very smoothly from what I've seen (this includes Minecraft, Phasmophobia, Spore, Starcraft the original and II, and I wouldn't be surprised to find many other games that work well). AMD did a great job with the Ryzen 6000 series and the fan noise does not come on too frequently and when it does it is not high pitched and annoying. The screen is nice, I have not used this outside yet but I think it would be ok in most cases especially in the shade. The battery life seems to be pretty good(definitely not as good as my macbook, but I expected this). The laptop is reasonably weighted and I don't have any problems lugging this around. The price of $795(after tax) is very good for a laptop of this quality. The keyboard is not as good as a macbook keyboard in my opinion, but honestly that opinion could change given time to adjust. The trackpad however is… ok I guess. I plan to use a mouse most of the time anyway. I am really glad that this laptop comes with 16GB of RAM as the only option, that is something I was looking for. I currently use this laptop for some personal home office/college use. I'll start off with the only two negatives I currently have. I know I chose the 15.6" because I use the heck out of a 10-key, but the size makes it pretty heavy in tablet mode, which I also wanted…..Therefore, if you can forgo the 10-key, I would recommend the smaller laptop if you will use tablet mode often. Also, like other reviews have stated, the lip around the edge of the screen is very flat when closed, which kind of makes it difficult to lift to open. Otherwise, I like everything else about the laptop. I bought it during the March spring sale and I feel you get a lot of bang for your buck. Plus Lenovo also gives additional discounts for First Responders/Teachers/Nurses, etc., which is awesome and can be used with other discounts! Set up was very intuitive. Screen quality/pixels are nice and crisp in my opinion. Sound/volume is fine for my needs. I like the track pad. My old laptop didn't have a track pad with integrated mouse buttons, so that's nice! Windows 11 is interesting but as usual it's fairly user-friendly. So far the 8gb ram is fine and nothing lags, but I don't do any sort of gaming. I bought the Lenovo Active Pen 2 separately (~$50) and it pairs very easily and works well. The pen also has an erase button which is very nice. You do have to have your hand off the screen to use properly, which is hard, but easily solved by a bit of fabric under my writing hand. The pen also doesn't slide as easily as I thought it should. Overall, I would buy the laptop again and would recommend it and Lenovo to anyone.KayHill

After possibly 6 months of learning and shopping for a 15 inch laptop, I am very happy to say that I made the right choice with this IdeaPad 5, with i7 and 16 GB RAM. I am not a professional reviewer, but here it goes. Overall Appearance & Feel The appearance is elegant and sleek. The case does not feel cheap and the friction on the lid allows you to position the lid angle anywhere from 0° (closed) to about 160° and holds strong. There are a significant amount of interface ports. However, it did NOT come with the charging port as shown in the photos and description. You can only charge using the only available UCB-C port and provided high-power charger – a typical USB-C plug-in charger will not charge the device. The keys could have a bit more stroke, but not too bad. They have a very minimal "tactile" feeling. One issue is the backslash key is nearly aligned against the top edge of the "Enter" key thus is is often inadvertently pressed. Why did they place the keys edge-to-edge? The trackpad is flawless, feels great and recognizes all gestures. However, I mostly use a Bluetooth mouse. The touchscreen works well. However, it often just stops working and requires either a reboot or go to Device Manager to disable and re-enable the HID Touchscreen device to get it working again. This happens maybe twice a week and is frustrating, but have not found a solution other than the manual remedy mentioned above. The camera on top of the lid has a mechanical shutter which I really like for privacy. Performance This laptop has no latency issues when using any of the basic office productivity applications, streaming videos, and web browsing. I can keep MANY apps open at once without any performance degradation. Start-up is extremely fast; the app-loading and commands are nearly instant, Amazing! The speed of this laptop is very impressive. It only takes about 5 seconds to start Windows from shutdown, I assume only if Windows "Fast Startup" is enabled, which it is. The finger print ID directly on center with the power button works flawlessly. I use it exclusively during login, I don't even remember my established password. Battery Excellent battery life. Windows automatically goes to sleep upon lid close, which is standard. Upon opening, you will need to enter your password or scan your fingerprint to unlock. I keep it generally plugged in, so not sure of full battery life. Sound Not impressive, but just ok for a 15 inch laptop. I am an audiophile so I would never listen to music on this thing. Connectivity More ports than other competition. I was especially looking for a full size SD Card reader because I do a lot of photo and video editing from SD Card storage. VERY DISAPPOINTING and MISLEADING that the laptop does not come with a dedicated charging jack, as shown in the image and description. The charging is done on the ONLY available USB-C port, thus you cannot simultaneously connect USB-C device while plugged-in. When not plugged in, I believe this port can deliver power to other mobile devices. Display Just ok. The brightness is not so good. For example, don't expect to do much work on a sunny day working in a park. My house has lots of windows and screen contents hard to see. The screen could be brighter. I'm not a gamer, so, otherwise, it suits me fine. Final Thoughts I would recommend this laptop for students and professionals, but not for serious gamers or graphic and video editing. So far, the only let down is that the magnets holding the laptop closed are really strong and prevents me with bigger fingers from opening it one handed. The rest is mostly positive… Great performance, keyboard is good, screen is great, trackpad is accurate (though small). Microphone and camera are leaps better than my previous laptop and reviews state that they are amongst the best in the market for those telepresence meetings. It's essentially a Surface Book 2 that's significantly more powerful and capable… At a significantly higher price. While the price on the highest end of this product is borderline unacceptable; you'll immediately notice that workloads that caused the most powerful SB2 to struggle are brisk walks in the park to the highest end SB3. Unboxed it. Reading through features, I though I would try "presentation mode". This is attaching the screen facing away from the keyboard. In this configuration, the screen will no longer detach from the keyboard. The unit does not recognize that the screen is docked. The screen battery is dead. At any pricepoint this catastrophic design failure is unacceptable. At close to $4k it is beyond aggravating. Microsoft support was helpful in confirming the unit is useless.Suckered

I bought X1 Yoga Gen 6 with i7 CPU, 1Tb HD and 16Gb RAM. It's clearly a well built sturdy laptop. Performance wise, it's great. Honestly at first I almost returned it – it kept hibernating after about10 to 20 seconds of inactivity. So if I were reading an article the screen would suddenly go black. Even after adjusting all the power settings in Windows to never turn the screen off, it still did it. Very frustrating. I noticed that the screen would then turn back on to the login screen automatically when I moved in front of it. Strange. Then it occurred to me that there has to be another non-Windows power setting that is doing this. I fired up Lenovo Advantage and sure enough it has power settings that override Windows settings! It has something called "Human Recognition" that has sensors when you are present and when you are away from the laptop. I absolutely hate that feature and there is nothing that asks you about adjusting these settings when you first configure the laptop. I ended up turning them all off and … POOF! … it now works the way I want it to. Pro's: Battery life is excellent. The keyboard is superb. The non-reflective display is great especially in bright areas. Really good performance. Two USB-C Thunderbolt 4 ports. High speed USB-A port A few things that would make it perfect: 1. The backlit keyboard is ok but I would prefer more that just 2 levels of brightness. 2. Put ALL power settings in Windows Settings! 3. There is 2 USB Thunderbolt-4 ports on the left side. Put one on the right side to make it easier to plug it in regardless of which side the power outlet is located. Its a great laptop. I would give it 4.5 stars if possible because of the power settings but everything else is great.TreyDrier

I7 1tb,16gb,720,IR Camera,14.0" WQUXGA (3840 x 2400) IPS, anti-reflective, anti-smudge, touchscreen, HDR, 500 nits//20XY0027US I do have issues with the Mouse occasionally not shown on screen when it comes back from a sleep state. Then I have to " paperclip " hard reset on this laptop. Screen is nice. Keys are nice. usually not in performance mode but in optimal mode. Wish that this unit had a micro sd card holder. Miss this the most. In comparison to the Lenovo X1 Yoga Gen 3 20LG model/ I had also the latest I7 8650u processor,16gb ram 500gb ssd harddrive & 720/IR camera and 14.0 WQHD LED Pro- Keyboard on Gen 3 recessed Pro-Both Keyboards on desk do not seem to have hotspots where fingers rest or positioned on. Pro- Both Rotate and With a Google chromecast and a the microsoft whiteboard app can use as a singular whiteboard. Both could use samsung tab 6 as a second monitor. Did not notice any lag from Gen 3 vs Gen 6. Both are fast. Im sure as more bloated software goes onto laptops that will change. Because the majority of times I plug in my laptops /decrease my battery to 95 top up and start charging at 75% I really did not notice battery loss on either laptop.. USB always on is great! headphones are bluetooth so i did not use the aux input jack for headphones. Dont like the Gen 6 steel grey as much as Gen 3 Black but Im old fashioned and kind of like everything in one colour. mouse pad/mouse/ laptop mat etc is harder to find in that grey and it forces me to spend more money. (note I do like the new Yoga laser pointer mouse more than the older Lenovo red dot on screen mouse version. ) . I gave the older laptop to a family member and I am sure that that person will truly enjoy the Gen 3 model. If not for family I would have kept the model Gen 3 longer in my possession. I did get the extended warranty as for me it is a must. they did have to repair the Gen 3 model fingerprint sensor R&R and I had them do this on site. If it was just for personal use I think I still would get the tech coming on site for repairs vs sending unit out to a depot and hoping for a fast return. Their customer service telephone support could definitely could use some better screening in their hiring process as when I did setup site visits for the many Lenovo products I own, I usually find them to be a Hit or Miss type of service. Wish more time was spent with Product information or even the Warranty level of Service reviewed with their support team members. Wait for the special discounts throughtout the year for savings I usually wait for end of year christmas or boxing day but that is just me. I am a believer in the Lenovo product line and I also like the many torture test that the thinkpad goes through to get its name. I do not like the 720p camera but I think the IR camera portion is a must for log in. Its for business meetings so I think its fine but definitely because of covid and meetings i hope they improve on that area. Both Generation laptops are amazing. I owned the gen 3 for approx. 2 years and Gen 6 now for about a month. I like the Gen 3 fingerprint sensor more than the Gen 6 fingerprint sensor. I really did not notice the older location fingerprint reader/ bottom corner right being much of a problem for me. I am not a Heavy Excel , photoshop, quickbook or fusion 360 type of person but I do use all of these programs in a months time. With the exception to Very large fusion 360 files or a very large photoshop file you would be fine using this gen 6 computer. I have large hands and both keyboards are fantastic. They are great business laptops for someone that moves between offices and the 1 or 2 a week road trips to see customers then watching the occasional video or even music on personal time. I do use the pen occasionally in the laptop. I definitely use the touchscreen so this is a definite perk for me. 3 pet peeves Customer Support Quirky but necessary for high end laptop, 720p camera needs upgrade, micro sd card holder needs to comeback like the Gen 3 with a flat profile so card can stay inside unit and does not stick out I am assuming that the Gen 7 version would probably fix at least one of these complaints. I'm a looooooooooooooong time Thinkpad owner so I basically grew up with laptops having a little red nipple which now I can't live without. I've got several Thinkpads around the house but recently got this one to replace my gen 1 Yoga X1 that I love. As with all Thinkpads, this keyboard is excellent and I love the separate PGUP/DN/HOME/END/INS/DEL keys. On the occasions when I need to use this for work, I'm a programmer, and having those keys is the difference between misery and efficiency. Let's compare this gen 6 to the gen 1 for a bit. Processor of course is much newer and supposedly quicker. To me, for everyday tasks, I really don't notice much difference. The gen 1 I had has the i7-6600u, this gen 6 has the i7-1165g7. I really felt the 6600u chip was quite zippy. The gen 1 I had had 8gb of RAM, this has 16. With Teams, Zoom, and every other video conferencing software out there, the more ram the better! Battery life – a little hard to say this early on. Again, I felt the gen 1 had great battery life for its weight and other performance. Always super pleased with that. This gen 6 seems at least as good. Audio – the speakers on this thing are amazeballs compared with the gen 1, which wasn't bad. I can't fathom how THAT much sound can come out of this little thing! Having said that, I mostly listen to music and do conferencing with headphones, so the speakers don't get a lot of use. But when they do, they sound great! Camera – don't use it a whole lot, as i have a separate one placed precisely for work. However, this one's low-light performance is very good. Screen – THIS is where the huge improvement is for me. First off, the aspect ratio (16:10) is much better for productivity tasks. The color depth is much better than the gen 1. And it's brighter – I got the 400nits 1920×1200 display. I thought about the super high res one, but I have other laptops with those extra pixels and to be honest I don't feel like they're necessarily worth it. For one thing, I use remote desktop sessions a LOT for work and the extra high res on "this end" can make the remote window difficult to use. Yes, there are ways around that, but half the time I find myself just dumbing down the resolution to something like 1920×1200 anyways. So for this machine, I figure why bother, just stick with the lower def. And I have been very pleased. Case/body – we've moved into the aluminum world with the gen 6. Personally, I like plastic or carbon fiber on the gen 1. It just feels less likely to dent, ding, or scratch. Yes, the aluminum looks very sexy – in fact, the gen 6 looks VERY sexy indeed – but I have to wonder how much of the aluminum is just for looks over function. *shrug* Power/charger – yeah, we're on USB-C now, replacing the beloved (to me) rectangular Thinkpad adapter. I liked that one because I have several Lenovos which all take it. Still, I did discover my Thinkpad Extreme X1 gen 4 will power from a Dell 130 watt USB-C adapter. Soooooooo maybe I can power all my Thinkpads with one of those. I guess it's just the way of the future. Ports – sweet heaven I love the ports on this! I have an X*S 15 at work with a whopping 3 USB-C ports. That's all. One of those is for power, too. That leaves you two. This Yoga has 2 USB-C (one for power), 2 USB-A, *AND* and HDMI port! Brilliant! You don't have to sacrifice ports when you have a thin and light computer. I've run it fine with a port replicator that provides power through its USB-C connection, one monitor in the HDMI port and another in the USB-C port (I prefer that to running them off the port replicator). To sum up: If you're a Yoga X1 fan with a previous generation, the biggest reason to upgrade to this is the screen dimensions and improved colors and brightness. The touchscreen is an awesome addition but a little sensitive which results in some odd effects if daughter (8) does not wash her hands every time before she sits down to use it. That said when I see another at the price I bought this one I will be buying it for daughter (6) who will need a chromebook next year because I have not seen a better value proposition that has a touch screen, something kids these days will need to grow up truly digital native. Seemingly at random it will start trying to select things with the long press action. When it does, hold it up to incidental light and there is a fingerprint there. Clean the fingerprint off and it stops, not always even food sometimes just sweat residue. Minor hassle but it does detract from the experience, ASUS should have used a fingerprint resistant coating on the glass, this is after all a ruggedised unit built for schooling. If ASUS had used a fingerprint resistant surface there and on the mousepad I would have rated this 5 stars. Keep a tub of screen wipes handy.MatthewH578

I paid full price and received a box that had been clearly opened by someone else and this device possibly used. Completely unacceptable. The clear sticker on the plug in was filthy with dirt and dust like it had been replaced.Disappointed

Got this for Christmas. Runs Chrome OS, which allows you to only play Android Apps and Games on it, along with chrome extensions and Linux. Not the strongest, but again not the slowest machine. Nice looking comfy design, pretty light and portable. Nice speakers, but could be louder. I recommend using a wireless mouse, but that could just be my personal preference over the touchpad. Overall, with my fair share of electronics I would recommend this device. Good for children to game on, and for getting work done.Michael

This is an easy to use straight forward 11.6in Chromebook. Some school districts have assigned these to students (G4 11 inch they are called) for school and now home use. As far as I know, this is the same one they have had going on 3 years. Previously, it was used for limited time in class and nothing else. In the past year, it has been used for several Zoom meetings a day, use of the Schoology app, Google Meets and simple web browsing. It does have the anti-glare screen, think more of a Kindle screen, less of a tablet. As an adult, I don't find the keyboard to be small but a person with larger hands possibly would. The camera isn't of amazing quality, if you're needing to take a photo of written work. However, in Zoom meets it seems perfectly fine. In regards to another review, no, it's not tiny it's 11.6 inches when you measure it (bottom left corner to top right) and it's in the item's description. This is not a 15 or 17 inch huge laptop that is more like a desktop size. If you generally prefer a larger screen to see well, like on your phone, text sizes, or your tv than you may want to go up the HP 14" version, which is approximately $30-$40 higher (currently.) Perhaps this size is more comfortable, less overwhelming to some. If you can catch it on sale, it would seem like a solid starter laptop.757Mama

When I first got this it was actually pretty good. Got everything setup and downloaded some apps. Everything works good and does what I need it to do but whenever I am watching YouTube the screen sometimes has like random black/green/blue colored pixels and it moves differently while the video is playing. Disney and other streaming services like that works fine but its just YouTube. Its not the video itself because I check on my phone and it worked perfectly fine with no issues. I received this laptop today. I am impressed with how light it is and how fast it was to set up. I bought a laptop from another retailer after 2 days the charger stopped working so I had to do an exchange. The exchanged laptop stopped working after 45 days, so I had to return and exchange the laptop for the third time. After 100 days, that laptop stopped working and/or charging. I cannot say for certain that this laptop will last, but I can hold out hope. As for right now, I am in love with it so far. Well I'm an HP and Toshiba product user. I had issues right when I brought it home and took it out and started downloading all the programs needed to put on the laptop. Right when it was on the last download it stopped running and gave= me an error code. I followed the instructions that it said to do and several times I got the same error code. I had to take it back to see about getting a replacement but the computer tech ran a diagnostic and found the issue it had a bad OS system on it. they reinstalled the OS system and was told everything is good to go. Well I hate to say I told you so but I came to start using it and I started finishing the last download and up came a blue screen with an error code so I wasn't happy with the product. I like to give second chances but three, I really don't although three is a charm. I've had it repaired and it's working fine for now and I'm getting used to it there is a difference from my older laptop, connections, size and screen size plus it doesn't have a cd to run programs that come with cd's to install so I have to go to web sites to get the download. So until then if anything should happen I'll be sure to post it.DONTHAVEONE

I have always used, larger, bulkier laptops, believing that they had more power. This brand has proven itself to be as user-friendly and capable as the more famous brands I have used. This model has a sleek, modern design, is the perfect size to go anywhere and has a solid, durable construction. I had the easiest time getting my home wifi on it and the keys responded to minimal touch. The unique number pad at the bottom of the keyboard is a nice touch. The year of free warranty and Windows 365 make it a bargain as well. Asus just might be my brand of choice from now into infinity.GIFTFANSTORE

Pros: You can run pretty much any software on it and as a creative, this 2in1 laptop is highly versatile. I purchased this because of what it can do. I could've opted for an ipad but i really needed something that can let me draw as well as do marketing and graphic design. It's small and portable. The screen size is good! Cons: If you're after a light device, you will find this device quite heavy. The edge to edge screen does not exist on this device which would have made it better aesthetically. Cons: I am enjoying my MS Surface Pro 7 tablet/ laptop. For a start I am outside on a very bright sunny day writing this review. Apart from the shiny, touch screen, I can clearly see the screen. Something my Lenovo could not do. It always went black. Unfortunately, all touch screens are shiny.It is very responsive and i5 processor is perfect for my non-gaming lifestyle. It is the perfect size for travelling and the excellent, magnetic keyboard makes it the perfect communications medium wherever you might go, safely, that is.The keyboard backlight lights automatically when light levels are poor. It is also very easily attached /detached.However, I did find that when using the the Pro 7 as a tablet the on screen keyboard is quite intrusive. I tend to use the tablet for streaming, podcasts, movies or music.I marked down performance solely because not long after getting it, it refused to charge properly with the MS default charger. However, I did find a hack on a MS forum that suggested going into device manager, delete the keyboard; go into windows updates and install all updates; restart and reinstall the keyboard driver (mine did this automatically) and all should be fine. I haven't haven't had ANY problems with the charger since.Christopher

Pros: Surface pro is a very well built piece of equipment, the quality of finish is very good. The components quality are good too, though Microsoft should maybe review some of them? The OS is regularly updated and for the better part works well in most situations. Cons: I seriously think that Microsoft need to concentrate on 2 things to improve the surface pro. First one is the quality of the screens used, I have had 2 previous surface pro models the pro 3 and pro 6. The pro 3 came with an Adobe RGB graded screen ideal for someone like me who is looking to use it for media based applications. The 6 was not as consistent and I had to calibrate the screen colour myself, the 6 also had to replaced 3 times due to screen issues! The current model in using (Pro 7) I have not encountered the same problems yet. The second issue is the OS in tablet form, some windows get lost in the background and can be a little bit clumsy from time to time. Microsoft need to address this. They have a bloated menu when it comes to accessing settings and could do with a tweak. These issues though do not outweigh the benefits and practical application of software unlike iOS or Android. It's a powerhouse and very stable and reliable.Jamie

Tv worked for two hours before shutting itself off. Tried again to turn it on the next day and nothing. Screen lit up slightly. Contacted ONN customer service and got the run around. They told us something hit it and they can’t help me. Avoid the hassle we got, buy a better tv from well known company. Not one who doesn’t stand by their product. It came out of the box this way and nothing hit it. Now we can’t even get it replaced. Horrible!!!!Angela

Nice machine if all you want is a desktop that looks like a laptop. The hinges on this machines broke away from the body and had to be replaced. Easy enough I thought–not quite. Both the shop sthat I took the machine to had to order the prt from China as MSi isn't a household product an dthe hinges are not standard size. This computer lasted only 18 months and it fell apart. When it works its a very noce machine. Good color, speed, gaming is good. Not a machine that is meant to be used for school as you shouldn;t open and close it everyday several times a day. The machine should just open up, and stay open on a desk or lap–not very useful for a laptop! The two repair places that I took the machine to knew exactly what to do as they have seen this repair many times with this machine. Once repair store told me it wasn't worththe time as the part from China would take 2+ months–I didn;t listen–he was right! Pass on this machine.baxzbt91

The laptop seemed to be great. It was affordable, and could handle quite a lot of what I threw at it. Anything I threw at it that it couldn't handle made sense given the laptop's discrete GPU being a Max-Q 1050TI (a step above my prior laptops GTX 960M, but not by much). However, the 1050TI malfunctioned shortly after the year warranty expired (quelle surprise)–suddenly jumping from ~35C to 95C immediately when put under the slightest workload, eventually reaching the cutoff of 97C which would shut the computer down. The Laptop has not been rendered totally useless by this failure since the Intel integrated GPU still works, but it obviously can't handle as much as the 1050TI and I am supremely annoyed that this Max-Q hunk of junk would malfunction, just after the warranty expired, leaving me with a functional, but still quite expensive paperweight. This seems to be the leitmotif of all laptops: that they are made cheaply, and are doomed to fail under even moderate use, after a year.Ryan U.

After possibly 6 months of learning and shopping for a 15 inch laptop, I am very happy to say that I made the right choice with this IdeaPad 5, with i7 and 16 GB RAM. I am not a professional reviewer, but here it goes. Overall Appearance & Feel The appearance is elegant and sleek. The case does not feel cheap and the friction on the lid allows you to position the lid angle anywhere from 0° (closed) to about 160° and holds strong. There are a significant amount of interface ports. However, it did NOT come with the charging port as shown in the photos and description. You can only charge using the only available UCB-C port and provided high-power charger – a typical USB-C plug-in charger will not charge the device. The keys could have a bit more stroke, but not too bad. They have a very minimal "tactile" feeling. One issue is the backslash key is nearly aligned against the top edge of the "Enter" key thus is is often inadvertently pressed. Why did they place the keys edge-to-edge? The trackpad is flawless, feels great and recognizes all gestures. However, I mostly use a Bluetooth mouse. The touchscreen works well. However, it often just stops working and requires either a reboot or go to Device Manager to disable and re-enable the HID Touchscreen device to get it working again. This happens maybe twice a week and is frustrating, but have not found a solution other than the manual remedy mentioned above. The camera on top of the lid has a mechanical shutter which I really like for privacy. Performance This laptop has no latency issues when using any of the basic office productivity applications, streaming videos, and web browsing. I can keep MANY apps open at once without any performance degradation. Start-up is extremely fast; the app-loading and commands are nearly instant, Amazing! The speed of this laptop is very impressive. It only takes about 5 seconds to start Windows from shutdown, I assume only if Windows "Fast Startup" is enabled, which it is. The finger print ID directly on center with the power button works flawlessly. I use it exclusively during login, I don't even remember my established password. Battery Excellent battery life. Windows automatically goes to sleep upon lid close, which is standard. Upon opening, you will need to enter your password or scan your fingerprint to unlock. I keep it generally plugged in, so not sure of full battery life. Sound Not impressive, but just ok for a 15 inch laptop. I am an audiophile so I would never listen to music on this thing. Connectivity More ports than other competition. I was especially looking for a full size SD Card reader because I do a lot of photo and video editing from SD Card storage. VERY DISAPPOINTING and MISLEADING that the laptop does not come with a dedicated charging jack, as shown in the image and description. The charging is done on the ONLY available USB-C port, thus you cannot simultaneously connect USB-C device while plugged-in. When not plugged in, I believe this port can deliver power to other mobile devices. Display Just ok. The brightness is not so good. For example, don't expect to do much work on a sunny day working in a park. My house has lots of windows and screen contents hard to see. The screen could be brighter. I'm not a gamer, so, otherwise, it suits me fine. Final Thoughts I would recommend this laptop for students and professionals, but not for serious gamers or graphic and video editing. This Lenovo is no good for high memory-intensive applications. It also has a paucity of USB ports, so I had to purchase a 10-port USB hub in order to use it without hassle. I bought the laptop as a emergency measure after my old HP Envy (also purchased at JL years ago) one day developed a serious issue and suddenly became unusable. I chose this Lenovo until I could decide on a more money-intensive model to invest in. However, I am still currently using it. Tolerating it, really. The member of staff who sold this to me at Peter Jones in London was very helpful. I needed something to purchase on the spot to get by and this was the only laptop available in store that day with the bear minimum configuration I could accept, until I could find something better. I use it with an external monitor and USB keyboard and mouse, so I can't say anything about the comfort or layout of the laptop's keypad. I don't save any documents on the tiny hard drive because I use an external storage drive (always now fearing the worst). The laptop's fan isn't particularly noisy (at least, it wasn't for the first 2 months, but recently has started to whirr a bit too often). But the main negative for me is that this Lenovo comes installed with Windows 10 "S Mode", which I knew nothing about (and which was not pointed out at the time of purchase). S Mode means you can only download and use apps from the Windows Store — this means I can't, for example, install Google Chrome (I am stuck with Microsoft Edge, which I hate — it might be built like Google Chrome, but somehow it lacks…something) and I can't use any of my Adobe Creative Cloud apps. In order to use everything I had on my previous laptop, I have to upgrade to full Windows 10 (and once you do that, you can't go back to S Mode). But with only 8GB RAM on this Lenovo, those Adobe apps will be effectively unusable anyway. Don't get me wrong, I am happy to have a laptop that focuses on security and blocks potentially harmful issues (the reason I had to ditch my old laptop) but it shouldn't prevent apps which are in common use and have been trusted for years. So overall, this Lenovo is average, nothing special, and sometimes a real pain. But it hasn't crashed since I've had it, so that's something.Marge

After reading countless reviews on computers that can run the Adobe Suite programs, I chose this computer because on paper it had all the requirements to handle programs like Adobe Illustrator, along with the fact that I wouldn't have to spend thousands of dollars on something like a Mac, or gaming PC. I couldn't have been more wrong. Upon installing the programs, this device CANNOT handle programs like illustrator. I wish I was exaggerating when I say that sometimes it would take over 1 hour to open my computer and have it run ANYTHING. It's constant updates, coupled with it's weak processing power, really do make for a miserable experience. I have had family and friends ask if I would recommend this computer, or even this brand for that matter, and I have ALWAYS advised against buying this computer, and brand. It's been absolutely the worst computer experience for me in all my years of using a computer, which is saying a lot since I learned about computers when there were still floppy disks. Do yourself a favor when thinking about buying a computer for programs like illustrator. Just shell out the extra money and get a brand, or model, that is tried and true when it comes to these things. I totally understand that many people can't afford to spend that much money on a computer, as I considered myself a part of that group, but you will definitely save on lost time, which some would argue is more important than money, as well as the mental anguish of staring at a constant spinning wheel of death while this "computer" is working to open up anything. This is my first Windows laptop after being with Apple for over 20 years, and it's a dream. I've been using it now for over 6 months and the combo of this machine and Windows 11 is an easy match for today's Mac. They've thought of everything on this model. The built-in display is amazing… it beats 4K at over 200 PPI, and the USB-C port powers an additional TWO 4K external monitors…HUGE! Backlit keyboard feels great to type on; function keys are aptly configured and provide easy access to the most common features. Great battery life and decently powerful; I run four desktops with multiple Office apps each, switching between with no trouble. The built-in camera and Windows Hello login face recognition work great. Terrific 1 TB drive, ample RAM. Lightweight, solid, graphite aluminum body just carries and feels great. The *only* missing is the SD Card slot (small sacrifice!). Again, having been a Mac guy for over 20 years, I couldn't be happier with this laptop. Sold on Lenovo! Highly recommend!Lord Snewolk

I bought this from a physical retailer and was at first amazed by the promises on its spec sheet– it weighed only 2 pounds, was part of the Intel EVO platform, had a high-power CPU, and claimed to have a battery life of around ten hours (a high priority for me, as I needed a laptop to use through my classes). My impression was quickly crushed as I found that the battery would only realistically last about 4-6 hours on light browsing and online video streaming with nothing but four tabs on a battery-saving browser and a messenger app open. The built-in rapid charging feature isn't very helpful, either, as it generates so much heat while the laptop is powered off (which can also hurt the battery's lifespan) that I had to touch the chassis every few minutes to make sure it wouldn't burn. It wasn't very comforting to know that this expensive "sealed battery", which is non-customer-replaceable, requires customers to pay hundreds of dollars to protect for any longer than a year because of the bundled warranty plans (in spite of Lenovo Vantage's continued advertising that a battery warranty extension would cost 20 dollars per year). Additionally, though the 12th-gen Intel CPU may seem charming, it will never reach its full potential as this laptop will get uncomfortably warm and throttle when put on anywhere from medium to high load, causing performance to slow down and the interior fan to blare at an unsettling high pitch that got stuck in my head for some time. An ultrabook at this price should not have this many issues and empty promises. I am considering exchanging the laptop though at this point I have lost most of my trust in Windows-based laptop manufacturers. TL;DR there's a lot inside the shell of this thin and sleek "premium" laptop but it is significantly limited by poor design and power management. It does look nice though, and it's quite light.Alex142
