This is a great two bike rack that I had about a year or two ago on my old car. It worked perfect on it! I got a new car last year and just got this rack again for it and it says that it’s compatible with my new car. I used it a couple of times and just now noticed that the bottom part of the rack had dented the trunk and left nasty scratches that now I’ll have to pay for since their customer service is garbage. Don’t put a vehicle on the list that isn’t full compatible… if you get this rack I recommend putting some extra padding on the bottom part of the rack or it could possibly damage your vehicle. It says it holds 70 lbs of bikes. The two bikes I use with it are way less than 70 pounds and the way the trunk is shaped causes it to push in and the metal ends up scraping the trunk. It should be one long foam padding on the bottom instead of one piece of foam on each side.Hunter
This rack might be able to hold two childrens bikes, but definitely not two adult bikes without serious problems. I would imagine the rubbing and bumping together just to get them on the rack would damage the finish…not to mention traveling with them. Theres just simply not enough space between the brackets. Its also the dickens to attach to our Equinox, even though it specifically states that it fits this car. I wouldnt want to carry more than one bike on it, and you need an additional bar (sold separately) to carry a womens bike. We returned it!Beverly

We were a bit apprehensive at first, not necessarily with the bike trailer, but more or less with the 1.25 hitch that we had to opt for as the dealership misinformed us on the size of hitch compatible with outback.I am happy to report we have had no problems with the sturdiness of this bike trailer as we were afraid the 1.25 would result in a wobbly outcome. As other reviews mentioned the trailer itself was a bit difficult to assemble. However once assembled and loaded it was exactly what we needed. We are comfortably and securely able to load our 2 Trek bikes and have no problem with the arms or straps. The only complaint is the thickness of the pin used to lock the trailer to the hitch. Could use a better pin something a bit thicker and sturdier for it to feel very secure.JAAM
First off, I'll mention that assembly was a bit harder than I thought it would be. The long bolts connecting the two pieces of frame together took a bit of finesse (and a rubber mallet) to get them to slide in and line up properly. It helps if you take the part of the frame where they screw in (on the outer rail) off first and line that up separately. Once I figured that out, the rest was a breeze. I really like the ease of use with this thing – bikes go on and off in just minutes. Way easier than it used to be trying to squeeze them into my car. I also enjoy how light it is, and how quickly it comes on and off the hitch. Although the price is a bit high, it is well-made and worth it. Highly recommend.Nate
There are things I like about this rack, but I think it's quite overpriced for what it is. I found it easy to attach to the hitch and I like the overall design – the arms feel secure, I like being able to fold the rack easily, and it does hold my bike well. I was also able to use the farthest rack position as a makeshift bike stand while I did some work on the chain, which was handy since I don't have my own stand. However, for this price point, I expect more than to have to use my own cheap Velcro strap to secure a mountain bike with average/slightly wide tires. I'm not using some kind of niche fat or cargo bike here – why doesn't the Kuat come with an integrated, high-quality strap for this purpose or better yet, a design that doesn't require that extra step at all? I also find the ratchet strap for securing the rear tire to be poorly placed. You can't get the bike on the rack without crunching the strap down and having to yank it out from under the tire manually, which is definitely increasing wear and tear already. Finally, the lock that comes with the rack for securing the rack to the hitch felt very cheap and online reviews suggest it can be broken very easily (a problem when you live in a high-theft area, which is not Kuat's fault), but it did lead to an extra cost to buy a more secure lock. Long story short, I'm glad I have the rack and it gets the job done, but it's premium pricing for an average/good product. I can't give a 4 or 5 star review when the value is skewed like that. I did hours and hours of research and ended up choosing between what I call "the big three", but compared countless off brands as well. I am now replacing a Saris Thelma 2 bike rack from 2015, and before that a Saris trunk mount rack. So we will refer to Saris, Kuat and Thule for this review. I have Specialized and Gary Fisher mountain bikes(heavy), Trek and Euro hybrids(moderate weight), and most importantly a Litespeed Tuscany road machine(weighs less than a gallon of water). Being able to fit any combination of my five bikes is key. I chose Saris again for three basic reasons-Saris has clamping hooks for BOTH front and rear tires, Saris has wheel wells/cups for BOTH front and rear tires, plus Saris was AVAILABLE and ready for purchase from their website. Thule and Kuat could not be bought from their websites-you had to find a retailer who may or may not have anything in stock, mostly not. These three options were in the same group with features and costs being much the same for comparison. Kuat and Thule both have only one clamping arm per bike, and NO wheel wells/cups but rather slippery, flat platforms with maybe an indentation or recession where the wheels sit. But there is much more to talk about: Saris does some advertisments for the SuperClamp in two short videos using a supercute redhead with the most amazing green eyes. The first video sells the function and features. The second video expalins assembly and use. They boast about the "single rail", small footprint and being lightweight. She hoists this rack up in the air over her shoulder in the first video! Do not try this at home, you'll get a hernia. So the only difference between the EX and HD is a dedicated 2" hitch receiver bar with the HD, rather than the 1 1/4" on the EX. I plan to upgrade my EX by replacing my 1 1/4 " with a 2" bar when they become available again. That being said these are my findings with the SuperClamp. I recieved the rack in the mail 2 or 3 days after my purchase online. There were some minor shipping damage issues but nothing to stop it from being used, and I was able to repair these with some moderate effort. A few small pieces were rolling around in the box as well. So shipping and delivery were very fast. Assembly was a breeze and easiest to do with the receiver bar mounted in the hitch, there's a hitch lock here too. Basically two bolts and nuts for installation. But if a thief was hip-this is also the only weakness against theft. (So let's keep it on the lowdown). Very slight play or wobble when in use but nothing to complain about, I've used much worse. Do take the time to register your new rack on the website in case you need repairs in the future. Once assembled let's talk "single rail". This is essential to the smaller footprint but I find that the rail is somewhat crowded. The bikes sit on the rail close to eachother and the pedals and handlebars need to be adjusted to fit without contact. I would have manufactured the wheel cups so that they were sitting a few more inches off of center to allow for some more space between the bikes. The locking swing arms with the clamping hooks only open to about 10 and 2 on the clock instead of 9 and 3 where it should be. So you must lift the heaviest bike over these arms to load it into the inner rail closest to your vehicle. The second video shows the cutie lifting a bike into this spot but cuts away just before it is actually in place, (she must be so strong). So lifting is just something to consider. Using the tire tie down straps on the inside rail is a little clumsy but are a MUST when using the rack, on both sides. Better safe than sorry. The rail offers cable locks at both ends. The length is debateable but serviceable and should not be the only way your bikes are secured. Pro Tip: The keys for both the hitch bar and cable locks must be used for proper function and whatever you do do not lose or misplace these keys or you will be screwed. The smaller footprint lists a fold away feature of this rack but I feel like when it's closed all the way and folded in there is not much difference in the space it takes up. You can travel safely with the rack in either setting. The issue here for me is that the Kuat and the Thule both button up and fold away nicely with a tucked in and finished aesthetic appearance where the Saris is a jumble of cups and hooks. That polished look is missed by me. But again, function over beauty. I am the organizer and leader of a bicycle club in Fort Lauderdale with over 800 members. My peeps always look to me for advice, I like to lead by example and many will follow just what I do-so choosing Saris is an important decision. I may have picked this rack apart with issues I might make changes in but I still chose this rack over many others, that should say something! Last year, as I was in my local bike shop (Cycle Loft, Burlington, MA – go see them) I ended up talking to them about bike racks. I was not in the market at the time for a new bike but had just purchased a used Mazda CX5 and had installed a trailer hitch. My old Yakima rack was (circa 2001) was OK for my old Specialized Crosstrail but I was curious what they would recommend if I bought a carbon bike. They said SuperClamp was the way to go. Fast forward to 2021 and after an 8 week Covid 19 wait, my new Specialized Sirrus 4 arrived. I placed an order on the Saris Website for the SuperClamp and it arrived. There were a couple of manufacturing issues, but the Saris customer service team treated me like their only customer and resolved everything (they are awesome!) The rack is so easy to use and nothing touches the frame so there is no wear and tear on the carbon fiber. PROs – Solid rack. Once bikes are in, they are part of the rack! Nice and tight. Easy to operate. Built in locks are nice. Tilt feature is nice. Cons – Like others say, the rack bounces around and sways. A lot with 2 heavy bikes. Will give you "rack anxiety." So far no issues, but wow. Fenders and rear kickstands can be a problem. Otherwise, really like the rack. Using it on a 2017 Prius Prime. Rack stays on the car, hauls bikes 3x a week or more. 1 bike no worries, 2 bikes, the bouncing is a little more noticeable, and the Prius can feel the sway. Both eBikes, under 60lbs each. Highway hauling doing 75mph is fine. Slow riding to trail head on dirt road is fine, a little anxiety from the bouncing. I have owned many bike racks and without a doubt this is best one ever. It is very well designed and manufactured. When I get both bikes on, I feel confident they are firmly attached and I don't find myself always looking in the rear view mirror to see if they have been misaligned by the wind and bumps. The bikes, while close to one another, do not rub or bump into one another which is another great feature. I wish I had learned about this rack years ago. As testimony to how well made and designed it is, I was reinstalling our bikes after a ride when I noticed a fellow rider watching me. He came over when I was done and said he had been watching me and was impressed with how easily I installed both bikes. This item has been reviewed a lot and most of what's out there is true. 1.) It's well made and sold at a reasonable price, especially when compared with the bike shop brands. I checked out all the other similarly priced racks, and this one has the best combination of features: straps to hold bike wheels, anti-wobble pin, ratcheting vertical arms. As others have noted, the raised wheel wells improve ground clearance. There are a few reviews that I think are off base, though. Some have complained about excess sway, and I'm pretty sure that what's really going on there is that the supplied allen screws and lock washers are not being tightened all the way. You're not going to be able to get them tightly fastened using the supplied allen wrench. It's too short to really torque down on it. I found that tightening those down hard (using a pipe or something to get more leverage) and using the anti-wobble pin supplied with the rack does the job very well. Second, there are complaints about the rack not having a locking mechanism. I've been using bike racks for 35 years and have never had one that had a locking mechanism. The things are designed to CARRY bikes, not stop someone from stealing them. Solution? Get a cable lock and lock your bike frames to your trailer hitch. If you're a biker you probably already have a lock anyway. If not, you can get one for about $13. Overall, I'm very happy to own this rack, and am very pleased with the price, too.t.
As an avid cyclist, I wanted to purchase a bike rack that would make me feel good about the securement of my expensive road bike when transporting from one place to the next. It was also important for me to break free from the traditional racks that allow your front wheel to spin free while driving potentially damaging your vehicle or the bike. While the price was fair, some of the things I have noticed that need improvement or should have been included in that price point are as follows: – The two bolts that secure the bottom frame to the upward arm while tightened and secured per the directions still allows for significant play of your bike when hitting bumps. Doesn't exactly give me the "warm and fuzzies" while in transit. – The bars that go into the hole to secure the wheel rests and prevent the arms from moving are sometimes difficult to get in and require wiggling the rack to fit perfectly. They have already started rusting after two months of limited usage which is not acceptable for paying $200 for a rack. -The manufacturer should consider putting some kind of cushion or padding on the elbows that secure the frame of your bike in. Otherwise, you're inviting your expensive carbon bike to get scratched, dented or worse. I was able to remedy this by affixing pipe insulation, although this is not the most attractive thing and I feel should be remedied by the manufacturer. Outstanding quality and solid support of my bikes, one of which is a 40lb ebike, rack is rated for two 60lb bikes. Very easy to assemble, install, and operate. Release lever is smooth and easy to raise or lower the rack. It has an anti wobble hitch pin that requires a tool but takes less than 5 mins to install. Very competitive price point compared to other brands.
My mistake – I didn't worry excessively about the quoted weight of the Thule T2, until I assembled it. At 23Kg, it is just too big and heavy for the back of my Tesla Model 3. I believe it is very capable of carrying my two e-bikes very securely, but I have replaced it with a lesser alternative at 16Kg. The T2 appears to be very solidly constructed, and would be ideal for a larger vehicle, especially a larger SUV or ute. For $868 delivered, I was disappointed to find I needed to spend a further $150 on a Thule number plate/light bar, to enable safe, legal carriage of my $40 Aux. I was torn between getting this or one of the big name platform racks for a lot more money, and I ended up giving this one a try. So far, I have put it through several hundred miles of use in Oregon in various conditions (low/high-speed road, gravel, speed bumps, twisty roads/gravel, hilly roads/gravel). Overall: + I really like this rack and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a platform rack. It has most of the features of the high-end racks for a great price. I think this is the best bang for your buck rack at the moment. Pros: + Assembly is simple + Comes with locks (one to secure the rack to the hitch by preventing the removal of the hitch pin, and one to secure the cable lock to the rack) + The tilt-down feature to access the trunk works (2016 Mazda CX-5) + Looks great (the pics show it as all black but it actually has blue trim, which looks great; check out the Rocky Mounts website for accurate pics) + Uses a lockable threaded hitch pin, which prevents most side-to-side sway + The racheting strap for the rear wheels grabs the wheel tightly (vs. the Rocky Mounts SplitRail in which the wheel can bounce around because it is sitting in a giant channel that is designed to hold large wheels; check out pics of the SplitRail to see what I mean) + Each bike platform can be shifted left-to-right to accommodate bikes that hit each other Neutral: * The latch to activate the tilt-down/up feature is located on the bottom of the rack farthest away from bumper (easier to reach). This is better than the racks that have the latch situated between the bumper and the rack because it is easier to get to, but it is a little awkward because it puts you in a position where you're bent over to pull the latch and the bikes swing down towards you. Cons: – While the threaded hitch pin helps prevent side-to-side sway, I think the wedge-style type of the high-end Yakima/Thule brands are better because they prevent side-to-side as well as up-and-down sway. That said, I didn't really notice much sway in my use of the rack but I wanted to list this for someone that might care – The security element of the rack is a separate short cable that you thread through your bikes and then secure to the rack using a lock located between the bumper and the rack. The lock is the same type as the one used to secure the hitch pin. The gauge of the cable is similar to a standard bike cable lock, which is fine for deterrence but I wouldn't trust it in high-theft locations since pretty much all cables are easily cut using bolt cutters. The biggest downside to the cable is that it is too short to thread through both wheels + frame of both bikes. I can only manage to thread it through the frame and one wheel. – Requires a wrench to attach to the hitch. It comes with the wrench but it is something that can get lost. It would be great if Rocky Mounts could use a hand twist system similar to what Yakima/Thule do on their high-end mounts (this would also address any up-and-down sway). That said, this is a small price to pay for a much more affordable rack. – When folding up the rack against the bumper, the rack can actually travel beyond it's locked vertical position and hit your car. This can happen if you pull the latch and lift the rack quickly; the rack won't lock into the vertical position and hit your car). As long as you're careful to make sure the rack locks into its vertical position, you should be fine but it would have been nice if Rocky Mounts put in a metal stopper to prevent accidentsAllister

The limiting factor is you can't strap around the battery so it was a process. It's not the easiest to get things in and out of except for the end one but it works and is a great price. Our purchase of the Freedom 4-Bike was timed to coincide with a family cycling trip. We received it a few days before the trip, and decided to practice. Good call! Putting four bikes on the rack for the first time took more than an hour of trial and error and tinkering. Lining up the parts of the rack and the pedals, handlebars, seats and racks of four adult-sized bikes was definitely a three-dimensional puzzle. The rack was great, though, for carrying the bikes securely and steadily on an 850-mile round-trip journey. We ended up getting very good at getting the bikes on and off of the rack in, probably, 5-10 minutes at a go. One person can load four bikes, but it's better to have a second person around to help.Rich
I bought the Saris Freedom 4 Bike rack about a month ago and I am quite impressed with it. I am not very mechanically inclined but I was able to figure out the installation fairly easily, the online videos do help. Once you establish a particular spot for each bike that you carry, the future setup is quite easy. Some previous reviews questioned the use of plastic parts which I thought were quite well made while also keeping the weight down on the rack. Vehicle rides much better by keeping the bikes as close to the bumper/rear of car as possible. Highly recommend it so far!Edward

I got this a few weeks ago and happy I did. I also have a Thule Outride 3 for my hatch back. I cant use the Thule on a carbon bike. This installed on my roof cross bars in minutes, securing a bike and removing it also takes minutes. The only concern are bridge clearances. You need to measure from the highest point on your bike to the ground and then PAY ATTENTION to bridges. I have a small SUV. Probably wont work in the North East if you have a large SUV. Top to bottom for me id 8'8" I will eventually buy a second, It also stores easily in a closet. Unlike my Thule. All the reviews are correct. Easy to use and keeps my bike secure. Its 4 stars because locks should be included. I bought those later and they too were easy to install. Very satisfied with this product.LMNYC
I've been using the highroads four about four months. Excellent for a short vehicle. I drive a Honda fit and two of the Highroads are amazing for hauling two bikes. I can get my bike up on the roof without any issue and reach all the adjustments and systems of the highroad without issue. The ratcheting hoop lock system is strong and I have never once worried about something coming loose or a tire getting pinched. The hoops accommodate very wide tires such as my 650b, 2.5 inch Mountain bike tires and more common 700x25mm without an issue. The locking strap system to secure the highroads to the car rack is also very secure. The user experience is mostly hassle free with this rack. I would or sure recommend this to someone with a sorter vehicle who already use a roof rack. Beats strapping a rack to your rear hatch or trunk lid.David
I combined the 20% off REI Anniversary Sale coupon, some gift cards, and my dividends to get the Yakima Highroad bike rack. I was able to utilize my existing Yakima BedRock truck bed crossbars that I use with my Yakima FatCat6 ski rack in the winter. Unlike my previous MTB fork-mount setup, this allows me to keep my bike's front wheel on, my truck's tailgate to close and not obstruct my rear view camera, still retain all my truck bed space, and is more sturdier/secure for those long MTB roadtrips. Yakima states that the max. bike wheelbase for this mount is 48". My Orbea OCCAM is a Large size and has a wheelbase of 46.18", so I had to move (shorten) the rear tire mount inward a few clicks on it's track from it's maximum position to get it centered under the rear axle. I could definitely see some longer trail/enduro XL/XXL size bikes possibly having issues with their rear tire hanging off the rear mount or not fitting at all. It took about 10 minutes to put together. Adjusting left, right, turn the bikes around, adjusting again and again took some time to get them to fit without touching. This is not the fault of the bike rack, it's the bicycles. Save some time and put the rear tire of the inner bike to the far left. Then the rear tire of the outer bike to the far right and adjust. One 6 mm lock nut was missing on the underside of the tire restraint. This is my only reason for the 4 star rating. Believe it or not I found one at Lowes. Saris should check these before shipping! The rack is not super tight but does the job. It holds the bikes in place, no scratches or damage to the bikes. I set the center restraints on the bottom side of the down tube. This makes for very easy loading. I set the bikes in and they hold the bikes it in place while I set the straps. I really like the design of this rack with the center adjusting restraints. I bought the Freedom 2-Bike hitch rack in October 2020 after researching other hitch rack options for fat tire bikes. I am very pleased with this purchase! The rack is lightweight, easy to install, and very easy to get the bikes on and off. You can't access your hatchback/truck while the bikes are on it, but that's not a big deal for me. However once you unload your bikes you can fold down the rack so you can access the trunk without having to remove it from the hitch! I ordered the hitch pin lock to go with it which works great and provides more security. I ordered the Freedom Fat Tire Wheel Trays and swapped them out on the bike rack. It came with just the standard wheel trays. The Fat Tire trays are wide enough to hold my fat tire bikes securely. I have two Trek Farley 5 bikes and they fit great on this rack. I drive a Subaru Forester. The price is very reasonable compared to other hitch racks on the market, plus it's made in the USA.Alaska Fat Biker
One annoying thing is the vertical bar does not hold vertical position when you are setting bikes on the rack. There is a spring loaded pin that is supposed to keep it in place but that pin does not penetrate the hole enough to hold so its not a great design and its non functional. It looks pretty sloppy when not full of bikes but I cant imagine what would be a remedy for that. I did have a bag custom made to cover it up when not in use and it helps clean it up. To its credit it holds my fat and my wifes electric bikes securely even on the 1 1/4 inch hitch, I lost a $2k bike off the back of my car last year with a cheap rack, and decided to get something more secure and this fits the bill.Mike

I was recently involved in an auto collision where my car was rear ended by an inattentive driver. On the back of my car was the T2 and on the T2 was my beloved C60. The impact of the collision was severe enough to deploy all of my car's interval safety devices. After I had settled down I went to check up on my bike; fearing the worst I was prepared to see a mangled up bike. I was not prepared for what I saw. The T2 was bent at a severe angle, the unused carrier trays were disloged and badly damaged BUT the trays where my bike sat were nearly intact. Except for some cosmetic damage, a mangled rear wheel and a broken rear derailleur hanger (my shop is currently inspecting the bike just to be sure) the bike appears to have escaped largely unscathed. Moreover, the body repair shop person told me that with the T2 absorbing the brunt of the impact, my car avoided more severe damage. So thank you Thule for making such a great product and thank you T2 for giving up your "life" to protect me, my car AND my bike.Just another cyclist

My wheelbase is 47" with 26" tires. After installing the rack on my truck, I found that my bike wouldn't fit. The back tire was sticking way off the back of the rack and the locking arm was nearly vertical. I checked the manual and it said that it will fit up to 48" bikes. I again checked the manual for fitment and noticed that the front wheel support cup was reversed for both bikes. So I promptly removed them and reversed them. My bike fits great now BUT one of the holes was stripped out during initial installation of the front tire cup by the dealer. Bolting into plastic isn't really the strongest support system. So now I need to either get a replacement piece or try to repair the one I've got. A simple solution would be to manufacture a third mounting hole which is not equal spacing from the other two holes. Then this problem would never happen. The wheel cup could never be reversed. But since this product has been manufactured for years, it's not really an option to change it. If the front wheel cup had a better mounting system, I would give this rack 5 stars. Easily adjustable rack. Such a nice addition to my truck.Colin

After going through 2 hitch racks thanks to being rear ended 4-5 times (big vehicles apparently can't see low hitch racks when parking, or just people in DC can't drive…), I was giving up on bike racks for my car. I had previously been told due to my Ford Focus' spoiler, a trunk rack was out, but then this model was released! I bought it, and am pleased to say it completely cleared the spoiler, with room to spare. We've also used it on my friend's 2017 BWM X3. It does not completely clear the spoiler due to the MUCH larger trunk size, but it does take pressure off the top straps and per Saris, shouldn't cause damage. A thing to note with 3 bike racks–they are a bit like tetris since the bikes sit so close. If you have 3 bikes, identically sized, all with racks and fenders… they may not fit without racks/fenders coming off and some weird maneuvering. On our last trip, we had 2x 54 cm bikes with racks, and 1 58 cm bike with no rack. The 54s went on the outside and inside, with the larger 58 cm bike in the middle. Handlebars crisscrossed over each other, around tires, and the racks. Rags and bungee cords were deployed to keep bar tape safe from rubbing on tires. So it WILL work. It might just take some time to get it right.Emm85
NOTE: You will need bungee cords or straps (not included) to keep your bikes' front wheels from moving around. I bought this after I had to start borrowing a car that did not have a hitch. I wanted a bike rack that was more versatile than my hitch-mount bike rack — something I could use on most cars. The Saris Bones EX fit the bill. I bought one of these and had to return it for another one due to Saris' poor quality control. A Committed To Quality card with a hand-initialed QC Check is included with each rack but the QC checks aren't being properly done. Even though they were brand new, the first one smelled like cigarette smoke and was really dirty. It was also missing one of the two strap management caps. The second one didn't have those problems but the ratchets were installed incorrectly so I had to redo them. The included instructions aren't very detailed so having the ratchets installed incorrectly added to the confusion of mounting this rack for the first time. The Saris rack is fairly sturdy but not as sturdy as my hitch-mount rack. But I guess that's to be expected of just about any trunk-mount rack. Still, I was disappointed to discover my bicycle, a Priority Continuum Onyx, didn't mount completely flush against the rack. The bicycle has a relatively standard frame but the seat tube has about an inch of space between it and where the hold down is attached to the rack. The hold down keeps it somewhat sturdy but there is that inch of space for movement. It seems like Saris could easily redesign the seat tube hold downs to better secure a wider range of bike frame geometries. The bike rack fit a 2018 Honda Fit well and it appears to be able to fit quite a wide variety of vehicle shapes. Overall, despite Saris' quality control problems and my bike not fitting snugly, I still recommend this bike rack due to it's ability to fit a wide range of car shapes.Sammy
The installation was so easy after an installation video. Is very sturdy with no shaking. Won't scratch at all. There was one concern then another arose after my 1-hour drive. First, I was not sure how easy it would be to steal this trunk rack. And, would love for this company to maybe provide a latch locking system because after I press to release the upper and all cords, it comes off easily. Second, the bike small strap furthest to the front crack right off. I thought it was too close to the end with nowhere for the bike to slide if the latch belt buckle strap was to break. So, mine broke and the bike held on by the last to latches. I would definitely buy a cord to secure the last two to prevent from bike falling off. I would want to exchange and extra cables and for it not to break so easily.miriam

The bike rack itself is perfectly fine. Im using it on a long road trip now, and its very sturdy and stable, very easy to attach to the hitch and mount bikes. Mine came slightly used, though, as the box clearly had been opened and then taped shut. The rack had slight indications of usage, like some rubbed off paint on the cradles, minor scratches on the cradle arms, and a couple of small gouges on the back of the main body of the rack where the hitch arm folds up. Because I was leaving on a trip soon after the rack arrived and needed it, I didnt have time to return it and wait for a new one. It really didnt warrant me returning the rack anyway, and its worked out great so far. Purchased this 4-bike rack from local store after spending few days reading reviews on REI and Amazon. PROS: Bike Rack comes fully assembled (1) and plastic straps holding bikes really well (2). CONS: Very Heavy rack, My wife could not deal it. Even for me that wan no fun to deal with (1). When installed and locked with the key, it wobbles pretty bad in the hitch, that didn't make me feel safe at all (2). While unlocking was easy, lock hitch assembly fell out as it get disconnected from the hitch insert. Also, when I pull the rack out of the hitch, bottom plastic handle just fell off (1). Nor sure if my rack was a lemon, but it is going back to the store.Alex
I purchased this rack to help with bike outings with friends and to facilitate moving. I like most parts such as the tool-less locking and folding concepts, but wish there were locking points for a cable to secure bikes. Fitting the bikes just right is a pain, once you figure it out you have to remember the order and orientation of bikes or you'll re-do that process… If there was some play in the contact points to gain space between frames that could improve everything, but I heard it was designed out to avoid slip. Because of the folding design tolerances, there are a few inches of play at highway speeds that you have to learn to be okay with. Ultimately I had issues with clearance (protective shark fin constantly bottoming out) and the threaded wedge system being unable to loosen, so I returned the unit and would consider a similar style. This works best if you need the possibility of 4 bikes, but probably use 2-3, and you also want to remove the rack from your car often.David

Unless it's a classic men's ten speed style frame, the closest bike in will rub on the pivot mechanism. First two bikes I tried would have been horribly scratched up first use. Not listed on the box, but at the end of the manual, is there is nothing to support the bottom and keep it from swinging. They tell you to use a strap, which could be done effectively, but don't include one. The anti-wobble feature is more wishful thinking than real help. If you used it for two bikes it would be decent, but you didn't buy a two bike carrier. Disappointing as this is a very well built unit with a great powder coat paint job.John
I absolutely love this bike rack. Its great to just leave on your hitch and not have to deal with the constant putting it on and taking it off. One pin allows you to pull the rack back and open your teunk in seconds. I’ve been carrying 3 bikes on it for two years and no sign of deterioriating. Light rust that i could easily sand and spray paint. I had one of the pins break off, bit thats likely my fault for not leaving it installed. The ONE issue I have with the rack is that it only has one bolt for install and it moves just a smidge andcmakes a noise whenever your driving ove bumps and such. Make a new version with TWO bolts and tje bike rack is perfectly sound:)ChitownChef
I bought this in July 2020 and was hoping for something economical and sturdy. I definitely got what I wanted. The rack is only rated at 100 pounds, but I was able to fit three adult bikes with no problems. There are alot of comments here about the hitch being wobbly, but mine is sturdy with minimal movement. Tighten the bolts folks! I thoroughly inspected the rack after our trips and found no crack in the welds or bending of any parts. Someone else mentioned that the rack had no straps, but the rack I purchased had all three straps that had plenty of length to secure the adult bikes. We are happy with our purchase and would recommend it for the price alone.dpat3537

Good: Looks stylish (my opinion, subjective) Holds the bike very well if used correctly. Fast bike install ONCE you get used to it. Bad: If you don't have a Thule set of cross bars you need to buy T Bolts for your model unless you use the over clamps. The over clamps can and probably will scratch your cross bars. The T bolts for my car that Thule recommended had to come from a dealer in Europe and could not be shipped to the US. I will keep looking and hope to find them. I am using the over clamps at the moment that are all metal, for a metal on metal fit. I am not sure why the insides are not lined with a non marring material like rubber. It is possible for the two bars to not click together which could lead to a less secure holding of the front wheel. I double checked and found this condition and reinstalled. Very important to listen for the click. If a person is in a hurry or in a loud area its possible to install the bike incorrectly. Best to visually check to assure the pin is in the groove/ Takes a little getting used to. Not intuitive. Easy once you get used to it. Not the easiest to get your bike into but to be fair This is my first roof rack. My SUV is not tall but I need a step ladder. The lock for the bike to the rack needs to be purchased separately. Since, we have Aeroblade/Wingbar Evo bars for our vehicles already, we didn't want to go to a hitch rack. We were originally looking at the drop wheel roof racks, but we ended up choosing this one instead, since we don't have quick release axles on our bikes. It was really easy to install the bike racks onto the bars – they slide onto the bars with the T-nuts and then put back on the end caps. We found them really quick & efficient to load/unload bikes onto the Upride racks & locking them to the rack. We drove almost 2000 kms in sun, rain, and headwind with 2 Upride racks and 2 gravel bikes attached on this trip on a sedan.JoL99
I bought this rack after being told it was the best solution for my wife's new dual suspension, I'd been using big mouth carriers for the last 10 years after switching from fork mounted carriers. The new tray is awful for the slightly wider tires, it isn't a true +sized and fit in the old trays, but the tires just roll right off these ones with no trouble. So do other bikes and its a deficiency of the new style trays but with the weight of her bike its worse. Part of the issue lies in the difficulty of guiding the front tire into the holder and then trying to hold it there while the wheel wants to slide sideways. The holder that then locks the wheel in is a total pain from there. With both MTBs it is possible to set a height and then use some force to slam it up so it locks in but its a really tight latching mechanism. This is where it gets its worst marks because with all my other bikes locking the wheel in becomes a major difficulty. The space between the downtube and front wheel of my and my wife's Blue gravel bikes, her C-dale Caadx, and my Museeuw race bike is so tight that the wheel holder barely fits in the space. With how hard it is to latch into the wheel stop getting any of these bikes on there is almost harder then with the wife's dual suspension since it isn't possible to swing it up with any momentum without it typically hitting the frame. Doing so requires snaking an arm under the frame to push up on the holder while the other hand turns the release knob to get it locked in. This method is required as there is enough flex that trying to push on the outside of the holder won't force it into the lock that holds both arms together. Releasing the latch on the lock arm, due to the pressure on the tire, caused the holder to bounce into the frame on one of the bikes leaving the tiniest ding, nothing easily noticable but enough to remind me I need to have some care unlatching it. The result is that the carrier only works well with one MTB out of 6 total bikes, that's a pretty poor score on something that costs well over 200.00 and buying it is something I regret.

We have two fatties (a Motobecane and a Farley 5) and I'd been using hitch rack from which the bikes hang. The problem was that the bikes would swing and sometimes work their way out of the top clamp. That's a problem on a highway. This new rack is fantastic. The hitch mount includes a screw-in hitch pin that locks the rack firmly in place. The wheel cradles include velcro bands to secure the tires in place, and the clamps on the vertical pole have pins to stop them from coming loose. The two bikes are held incredibly well. I can even back out of the driveway without dragging the rack or the bikes on the ground. That was another problem with my old hanging rack – the bikes hit the ground when I drove up an incline. For about $150 this is a steal – get it before they are gone.StayAtHomeBob
This bike carrier uses an unlockable M16-2 bolt to secure the rack to the receiver hitch. To prevent theft I found a matching locking bolt at etrailers. The other vulnerability of this carrier is the M16 bolt that secures the two-part main frame together and I am substituting an M16x70mm shoulder bolt with an M12-1.75 thread end and an M12-1.75 locking wheel nut to secure it. This bike carrier is designed so it can be assembled as a single bike carrier or a 2 bike carrier. I began with it as a single bike carrier and the square tube plugs directly into the receiver without the extension pieces and all that extra weight. also, as a single is several inches lower. I'm pulling a trailer so I need a bifurcator in the receiver . The Lower hole is for an extension and the hitch ball and the upper hole is for the bike rack. I had done this before with the Allen 4 bike carrier. This design supports the wheels rather than hanging the bikes by the frame top tube. with a heavy fat tire , or worse an ebike this is much easier to load the bike on. Lift the front wheel into its wheel support loop, then lift the back wheel onto it support loop. with the frame hanging design the entire bike weight has to be lifted at once. Also my ebike is a step through, so there is no upper tube to hang it from. tThis carrier is rated for 200# so that is enough to carry two 70# ebikes with capacity to spare. This carrier is 55% the cost of the Amazon versions and has more weight capacity. The one down side is the plastic topped "wing bolts". cannot be tightened enough by hand to secure the wheel support loops in place or the inverted "vee" frame holder. This 71 year old had to put a wrench on to wing to tighten them adequately, and the plastic wing was obviously distressed. It didn't break. Might have been better to just leave the hex bolt heads exposed.rway227

Typical Thule quality and design. The only drawback that I could find is that there doesn't appear to be a way to mount it to the channel in the top of the Aerobar that I was able to find. I ordered the base and a +2 and have had many issues since it came. – the plastic pivot casings broke in shipping as they are not well protected in the box. I got warranty covers but still had to invest time before the first ride to repair the rack. – the threaded hitch pin is a great idea but the metal is weak and the pin sheared off before the rack was even reasonably tight in the hitch. – the +2 came in a separate box and the paint/powdercoat was DESTROYED. Everything was chipped up and scratched. – the +2 also came with several broken hinge casings. – replacements were sent for all the broken/ damaged parts but they didn't attempt to match locks so now I have to carry multiple keys to secure the rack and different sections of the rack. Apparently they can't get you replacement cores either so you're stuck with multiple keys unless you get lucky. Thanks Yakima and Thule for spoiling us with the ability to have just one… Overall very disappointed in Saris. I had always considered them a high-end brand but this rack has not lived up in any way. A+ for attempting to incorporate the best features of the racks out there, F for execution. I'll be selling it over the winter and putting the Kuat back on. So bummed.
I chose this rack primarily for 3 reasons: 1) ability to take bikes of all flavor without adapters; 2) holding bike without touching frame or fork; 3) foldability of trays providing easy trunk access for my dogs. The rack delivers on all three very well, better than any competitor. However, the rack is not perfect (what is?). The construction quality is not up to the standards of Kuat, nor is the tool-free tightening method. The Kuat I could have on and off in less than 30 seconds, with the Saris and the pin tightening approach, it takes much longer. I used to take the Kuat on and off, but with the Saris it's too much of a pain and I just leave it on. Durability of the rack is also not as good as the Kuat. It's a mixture of painted aluminum and painted steel, and the paint is not very durable on either one. Saris has been nice about replacing parts that start to look old, but I'd much rather avoid the waste and the hassle and have a rack that continues to look good without having to resort to such things. I also had an issue in the winter where snow/salt got into one of the mechanisms and prevented the arm from locking in place. Luckily this happened between rides, and not during a drive to ride – I could take it apart in my garage and clean it out, which took 20 minutes, but got it working again – had it happened on a drive to the trailhead, I'm not sure I could have gotten the (second) bike home again.PDSM
I’ve used this a bunch of times and it is easy to load. It went on easily and has remained rock solid in the hitch, virtually no wiggle at all. Every piece of it is engineered well and overbuilt. I feel completely confident hauling bikes around. Love the built in locks as well.ddburke207

Other checks before purchase: 1.The distance between the wheel supports is just about ok for my gents tourer but if I bought again I would check and go for one of the Thule range with extendable wheel holders such as the Thule Velocompact 2. 2. If you are looking to carry two electric cycles you will probably need a bigger model than this 3. I purchased this bike carrier and couldn't be happier. Its an easy on easy off installation process. The bikes are extremely secure and dont move around much. It folds up compact and fits into back of car. It has a tilt adjustment which is perfect for easy access to the rear boot space.
