Reviews:
Purchased this to replace an HP 7864 quit scanning from the front panel after updating to OS13.0 on my Mac. HP had no fix. Was scared by all the paper jam reviews, but bought it anyway for the features, price and promise of savings on ink. Setup was relatively quick and painless, following the directions and installing the full software package from Brother's site. I also preloaded my iPhone with the Mobile Connect app. I used the app to setup the printer. I think those that have problems with setup either have older software on their computer or problematic wifi, because mine went smoothly, if not a bit tedious, especially using the tiny screen and old-school buttons to enter and change the machine password. I hard-wired mine with the USB, but it is connected to my network also and works flawlessly with my iPhones and iPads. I am 1 week into use, daily, but not heavy, in my home office. Not one jam yet. I do not print many multi-page documents, maybe that's where the problems will come. But, so far, so good. As for the savings on ink, I hope that I will have to wait about a year (as advertised) to find out. My only complaint is the document feeder does not keep the page straight. My scans all seem to come out a bit crooked. Not terrible, but not quite straight. Therefore 4 stars. Otherwise, I am happy with the replacement. It is smaller, faster and more quiet than my HP was for sure. Here's to hoping I don't have to buy ink until next Fall.TripleshotMcC
This is a business-at-home printer shared by two adults. We have spurts where we will print dozens of pages per day and there are many days where no printing at all is done. But, when we need it, we need it and we do not want our work to be put on hold. That scene would involve yellowing and stomping of feet. So far, after about a month we have had no negative issues. To be candid, this is the 2nd version of the printer. There were some hardware issues involving paper flow with the first one we received. After 4-6 weeks of reaching out to support via email it was determined that it was the printer. It was not support's problem from taking too long. I stay busy servicing my clients. Once the return authorization was done, they sent us a new printer and gave me instructions to pack the faulty printer in the box the new one came in. They paid for the return. First time out of the box everything went flawless with setup and testing. The ink cartridges from printer #1 did not work in the new printer so I simply used the new cartridges included. An intelligent printer! For testing, the new printer printed a sheet of paper with a variety of lines and colors. I was to scan this printout and then be told by the printer's analysis whether things were awry with the alignment and probably some other possible issues. No issues were found and I was ready to get to work. Thus, my first experience with the new printer was a positive one. It's fast, too, based on other printers I've used. Scanning is a cinch. I do no not do faxing anymore so that I didn't set that up. Colors are bright and not smudgy at all. After having worked with computers and printers since 1980, I don't get all flustered when something doesn't work right out of the box. There will always be a percentage of new products that fail for some reason. Accept it. Deal with it. Be nice to the folks on the other end of the phone.Rooski
I bought the Brother MFC-J4335DW printer to replace a 3-year old Canon Pixma after reading good reviews on the Brother printers. Unfortunately, the reviews apparently didn't consider the unit I bought. It was extremely hard to install and set up (spent 4 hours trying to get it to find my desktop). Even then I could not get it to send a fax. The first two or three copies printed quickly and silently – but then developed a "clunking" sound that never went away (although it did get a bit quieter). The operating instructions were essentially non-existent. I could never get it to print or scan by pushing a button on the control panel – I had to use the icon on the computer screen to do that. In addition, the icons/lettering on the display screen is so small it was almost unreadable. Finally, I needed to print two envelopes: in printed one and then I couldn't get it to print the other one (tried for 30 minutes and finally completed the work manually). That was the final blow – I returned the machine to Office Depot and bought a new Epson Work Force machine which I got working within 45 minutes after opening the box. Based on my experience I would never recommend that anyone buy this unit.Arch 41

Reviews:
Prints quickly and sharply. I was using an inkjet. The printing rate is about 30 times faster, and the quality about 20% better. I'm using Arch Linux and the brlaser project (AUR package available) got me set up wonderfully. Holds like 200 pieces of 8.5×11 paper and has a manual-feed place for paper I guess for legal pages? Automatic duplexing is awesome of course. The printer bends the paper a good deal, so when the paper comes out, if you set it flat on the table, the corners are up quite a bit. To get the paper flat requires some work, and it may relax over time.dartmetrash8
Needed a New printer since my old Brother printer decided to slow down and stop. The Brother printer with the duplex is is updated for my needs. Brother is a Great Printer and I'll been buying Brother products for many years. Soooo very happy Brother has been there with many choices of printers. Fast delivery. I will recommend. 10********** 🙂karro-us2014
The printer is quiet and of very nice printing quality. I have no disk drive on my PC for the driver installation, but you can download the driver from Brother. It does not bring a USB cable connector, but you can buy it at Walmart of $4.88. Link here: https://www.walmart.com/ip/onn-6ft-USB-Printer-Cable-USB-to-USB-B/847376288?athbdg=L1600. Reviews:
Great basic laser printer at a good price. Appreciated getting "introductory toner cartridge" with the unit so I could test all my connections/set-up right away. I particularly like the two sided printing feature. The setup instructions were easy to follow. Used the Brothers website for the latest software. Since I have another printer with copying capability, this was exactly what I needed. (This does not have copying/scanning capability.) "First print" is a little slow, but it then picks up speed. Pleased to find Micro Center sells extra generic large toner cartridges at a good price.DAVID M
I purchased three instances of the HL-2270DW: one for 125VAC, 60Hz use from B&H here in the US, and two for 240VAC, 50Hz use overseas in two locations. The construction on all of them was the same: generally of a better quality than the 2300D; its plastic components are thinner and more easily bent and distorted for common tasks (like lowering the back panel for card stock pass through). Another thing that was a disappointment for me right out of the box was that the 2300D has a non-removable power cable. That makes the unit less desirable for several reasons. It cannot easily be fitted with a longer cable if an outlet is not conveniently located; it's awkward to store and to transport. My wife has sewn dust covers for all the printers I've ever owned, but this one makes that task more difficult because the power cable doesn't detach.¶ The print quality seems about the same initially, but it's too early to know if it will last as long as the 2270DW units did. Brother printers have a good reputation overseas for long life and service with duplexing at their price point. I put 20+ reams of paper though one of mine for translation work in an extremely hot and humid environment, replaced the drum twice, and it was still working well when I returned to the US at the outbreak of C-19.Larry
very simple status display. it only has a few led's it'll blink at you if there's a problem. in my case, I only get a blinking light for paper, but it has paper loaded and has never fed paper through it, so definitely not a paper jam. so what can I do? I only get that blinking light. check again and again, it's not a paper jam, it has paper, I'll add more paper, still blinking light. power cycle it, hold the go button, check the paper again, still not a paper jam, still blinking light for paper. what more can I do, it doesn't even make a sound. how does it think there's no paper in it if it doesn't even try. only blinking light. it wont give up the secret.Anonymous

Reviews:
Some of the reviews on this printer perplex me. For its price, this is a very good printer. I would have rated it as 5 stars, if it weren’t for the fact that the instructions from Brother re connecting it to a wifi network weren’t so cryptic. I ended up ignoring the instructions, and worked it out. Clearly they are generic instructions and the steps do not reflect the menu flow of this specific printer. Plus, Brother did not have print drivers for OSX version 11. The colour print quality is very, very good. People complaining about the print quality are clearly using damp/moist paper. Paper is very hydroscopic and must be kept dry (I worked as a photocopier technician for over 25 years, and damp paper is the No.1 cause of poor print quality). I never leave paper in the printer (as it becomes damp, especially in humid conditions). My paper is kept in a sealable plastic tub with desiccant. I only add enough to the printer for the jobs that I run. The printer initiates quickly and is not noisy (as some have said). It appears to be very well constructed (for the price). As an ex-office equipment technician, I am very satisfied with this purchase.misubisu
I did a lot of research trying to find a new printer; it was actually very difficult, as many were sold out. I came across this one and thought it was a great deal. We didn't need a scanner/copier, so I knew I didn't want an MFC. I would definitely recommend this printer to other small businesses looking for a high-end printer without breaking the bank. The quality is great and Brother is a really good brand. Even though it's not a true laser printer, it prints pretty much the same, and definitely much better than an inkjet. Going from a slow printer to this is a major upgrade. You won't be disappointed if you're coming from an inkjet, that's for sure. I absolutely love this printer and am so glad I was able to find it when I did!Dehner Sister Designs
no, its not a photo printer a photographer would use, but good enough to print a rough proof sheet. Best uses would be for graphics. I'm tired of inkjets drying up when you need them. I don't sell prints anymore so this is nice to be able to print out a web page in color or a rendering, etc. There is some slight streaking in a photo image but usable for my purposes and an occasional print. I've uploaded a comparison image. This is like a laser but uses LEDs as the light source. One nice thing about Brother is they keep their drivers up to date instead of going obsolete.Alan

Reviews:
I haven't used the printer all that much yet, but so far it seems great. Initial setup was very easy. I've connected it to my home network and printed wirelessly, which has gone smoothly so far. I expect it'll be easy to print wirelessly from the various devices in our household (laptops, android phones, iphones, tablets). So far it has always woken up from sleep mode when prompted to print; I was afraid it wouldn't and I'd have to make an additional trip to the printer just to wake it up. I like that the printer has an automatic document feeder and two-sided printing, and that it combines printer/copier/scanner but doesn't take up too much space. The touchscreen is fairly easy to interact with.KATE
This is a replacement for my original . It was fine until it wouldn’t permit a replacement ink cartridge (magenta). It would not operate until the cartridge was replaced! Tried repeatedly to reinsert, changed cartridges, etc. Even emailed the Company for help (got none). Finally replaced entire unit, primarily due to the stockpile of very expensive ink cartridges that I had acquired; otherwise, I would have bought a different machine. Hardly an endorsement for your product.
I needed a color printer. I red several reviews on different sites to help me narrow my selection. The Brother MFC-J895DW ink jet printer was highly rated on all the sites I visited. It was moderately priced. After the printer arrived, I immediately installed the software. The printer works perfectly. It produces photo quality output. It is very fast and quiet. I can access many useful ideas online at the Brother website. I print high quality business envelopes. I feel I made a good choice to purchase this printer, Highly recommended.Eric

Reviews:
Where most of everybody is using I phones, the art of sending, and receiving standard pages, and legal documents are becoming more important. The fax will work on 2 line phones with easy setup, and manual. Fax centers are charging more for faxing, and I was surprised friends, and family needed to fax something, which made this purchase of this brother fax machine seem like a must have, and wondering why I did not get one earlier. Back to the future with landlines, which now seems like something every household now has a real purpose for by rediscovering the fax machine. I am not familiar with other fax machines however, I do trust brother printers, and fax machines. I noticed local fedex business to fax documents was using the brother MFC 7240 and knew it would be a great value.fashion_gemstones
The MFC 7240 is more feature rich than my Brother MFC 4800. I have printed, copied and scanned (no faxes yet). The printer is very good if the paper doesn't jam. It jammed 2x in 350 pieces of paper and when it did it was a PITA. Its the engineering. The water mark feature is a nice balance.rozdhar
It is priced right with small business or home personal use for fax and printer. I would recommend to my friends or IT remote professionals. About 250-300 with product, tax and needed accessories that is good investment as a startup home office equipment, it is not a low-end machine for sure. I am sure you will feel good about it!JOHNSON

Reviews:
If you plan only to print–and do little else–this is a very competent device. Speed and clarity of text printing is good (I haven't printed pictures, so I can't evaluate that). And setup was pretty straightforward for printing. BUT–this is a multi-function device, and you've paid for a multi-function device, so all of the functions should work equally as well. They do not. 1. Copying: copies of text are quite good. However, it is literally decades since I've had a printer that produces copies in reverse order. If you frequently want to put more than 2-3 pages into the document feeder, you'll find it really irritating to re-sort and put the copies in order before stapling–and really annoying if you forget to do so before stapling. Also, I don't know the last time I've had a printer at home or at work that requires the pages to be placed face down rather than up. I guess eventually I'll get used to this but in the meantime (two months in), I keep messing up from force of long habit. 2. Fax: Yes it faxes, but there's no automatic way to know that it's done so! No message on the screen that the fax has been sent successfully, no automatic printing of a fax report, AND no way to set the machine to do these things. Each time you've tried to fax, you'll need to hit several buttons to reach the print fax-report button. Which means that you have to go through that process each time just to find out that someone's fax didn't pick up, or that their line was out of order or…. That's absurd. This is bad enough that I'm actually thinking of getting rid of the machine and buying an HP again. 3. Scan: I found it very tricky to find the setup that would allow me to use the machine's touchpad to initiate scans. And no matter what, it refuses to produce my scans as PDFs, only as JPGs that I then have to convert to PDF. Scan to OCR? Forget it. That's after following the instructions in the manual, searching the Brother site for further instructions and following them to a T. Nothing doing. All in all–I started out writing this review having given the machine 3 stars, but as I wrote, I realized that the only thing I'm satisfied with is printing, and that what I've written is a 2-star report. So that's what I've wound up giving it. If you rarely fax or scan or copy multi-page documents, you'll be happy with the printer.Herbert H
This is a great machine with an almost unending ink supply. The print copy is great and the colors are very good. What would make this machine even better would be if the copies per minute were increased. It is a little slow. I had to clear the head once because the printing was not clear. The print was fine after that. Lastly, in order to shut the printer off you need to press two buttons. There is a off button and also a warning button that must be pushed to declare none of the info on faxes will be saved. Since I don’t use this as a fax, it is just an extra procedure for me. All in all I am satisfied with this printer and do not regret purchasing it.Chemist
This copier was out of stock for months, probably because people like me being forced to work from home due to the Covid epidemic. I researched everything available and decided this white version was the best bang for the buck. I didn't need it to copy from my phone or any fancy stuff. I just needed a reliable copier that primarily copied quickly and cheaply in mostly black and white and sometimes in color. No brochures or books, no pictures from my phone, just plain old copies of work stuff. I have had this white brother for three months now and it is still full of ink after heavy usage, yay! which is why I waited to get this model. To date, two small nit picks are the same I already knew about. The display panel is small and located on the front of the machine instead of the top, so it's hard to read, especially if you wear progressive lenes glasses. Also, it's noisy. Every time it pulls a page from the tray it almost sounds like there's a paper jam or something is going wrong. You get used to it. Oh, and as all the reviews said, it doesn't hold much paper in its paper tray. It's fine for typical home usage, but if you are copying huge jobs you will be adding paper frequently. I also scan from time to time and that feature works well and fairly quickly and is easy to use. I primarily got this to save money on ink, and so far, so good. It just works like it is supposed to. Love it!Worksfromhome

Reviews:
This is not a "Karen" review; I have genuine critiques regarding the performance of this printer. I work in prints quite literally all the time and it will be my full time job once I graduate. This printer is not necessarily budget friendly for a college student but it seemed good at first for me to try and investing in. The first printer that came to me had issues printing colors smoothly and with saturation. There were horizontal strokes of patchiness so I contacted Brother regarding this issue. They determined it wasn't my toners so they sent me a replacement printer at no extra cost to me which was excepted. The same issues occurred. I don't blame the customer service—they were great. My issues was with the performance of this printer. How can I receive two disappointing printers that don't work any better than my crummy HP inkjet printer that barely has ink? It was my fault for not contacting Brother sooner within my 30 day warranty they gave me, but I cannot express how much I'm deterred from buying Brother printers here on out due to this experience. Also, if you print directly from any Adobe program, the printer doesn't read any of my typography as vectors and prints it horribly. You have to save it as a PDF and then print it, if you're wondering. It's a black and white printer for general use now at my house despite all my attempts to change print settings and triple check the printer settings. You're better off getting a different printer or going to HP. Brother print app also need serious help it is not user-friendly and will benefit from making it a smoother experience. (EDIT: I've tried uploading this review multiple times turning off my adblocker and it's prevented me from doing so. I'm hoping this posts so people can understand that this printer may not be for them.)juno
This is the best printer I’ve ever owned! I had HP printers before, so that may not seem like saying much, but… I had purchased a HP printer along with a new HP laptop. I thought the wireless setup would be easy, since both products came from the same company. I ended up returning it, since I could never get it to work properly. My experience with the Brother printer has been totally different. Setup was easy. The instructions that came with the printer told me exactly where to go to download drivers and connect the printer to the internet and my computer wirelessly. It’s been great! Everything works the way it’s supposed to, and I’m easily able to print from my computer and scan documents into my computer. I will always look to Brother when I need a new printer in the future.AVIS
I recommended and purchased this printer for my Amish friend's business. He has a fairly high workload as the printer is used for faxes and printing. I had a chance to see in person what he was not happy with and that is the speed of the printer. I was asked to assist him in printing a number of 16-page booklets that required full color, two-sided printing on 8-1/2 x 11 stock. We were never able to use the print on both sides feature as this was so slow it hurt. We decided to print odd and even pages separately to speed up the job. In single page mode, the printer would spit out three pages and then rest for a few moments, then print another three or four, and so on. On top of this, we experienced papers sticking together causing jams. We attributed the sticking to the high humidity of the day and the 50# gloss paper we were using, To finish the job we found it best to print one side at a time, manually, then print the backside. The pauses between every few copies took hours to complete only 40 copies of the booklet. I am in agreement with the owner as the printer does not perform very well for printing multiple copies of prints when using a computer or receiving multiple-page faxes. Our booklet was an Adobe Acrobat document. If I had been able to stay longer and it had not been a weekend, I would have contacted tech support to see why the printer is so slow. I feel guilty in recommending the Brother printer as I own a number of Brother printers, including a lesser model color laser MFC and have not experienced any problems or slowness.

I used to love Brother printers. This is an expensive pile of junk. I do a lot of photocopying and scanning but it doesn't do double side automatic copying only manual and doesn't do double sided scanning. I saw another review which says you can download software that will allow double sided scanning but you still have to scan it and then turn it over. For a machine that looks like it does, costs what it does and says this in the description it is deceptive advertising as it doesn't tell you the whole truth. What a load of junk. The below is taken from Officeworks info on this printer. My comments in brackets. I really feel like I have been misled The automatic duplexing function will allow you to print on both sides of each page, saving on paper. (But doesn’t tell you this is not available for copying) You'll be able to scan your documents automatically thanks to the 50 sheet document feeder (but doesn’t tell you it won’t do duplex automatically even though it is supposed to be a duplex machine) Be aware of what you are buying and if you do a lot of scanning and photocopying don’t buy this rubbish.BeaJay
I have been used Brother MFC 9460 till today. But it is getting old, making worse result, so I bought this one. Everything is as expected, like colour quality, built quality, etc. But I surprised with its slow speed to receive data! I tested with one large photo image and double sided affinity document. It takes more than a minute to receive data for each print. 10 years old MFC9460 made a print instantly-maybe in a a few seconds! I don't know why it takes lots of time to receive. If you are busy man, it might make you angry. If you have time to wait anyway, it works as you expect. One more thing I want to say is about colour adjustment. I could choose the option related image quality or colour profile, print resolution from driver before. But new model doesn't support this option. You can only set the paper size, print layout etc. No colour setting, no image quality setting.Timothy

TLDRve Its cheap for a reason The customer service is garbage Not having a receipt for ink will mean all warranty claims are refused. The drawers are annoying as the sensors keep showing them as not inserted unless you wiggle them The back flap that allows you to use A3, gets opened by the printer simply printing from the A4 tray and then causes multiple paper feeds. Multifeeds even when drawers are fully in place It weights an absolute ton and needs a really strong surface like professional office surfaces, the standard desks you can buy in the shops will bow. Were talking thick mdf, not flimsey crap. Theres no useful help on troubleshooting online either. Software gets confused about printing in booklet mode, etc. The software is pretty poor at communicating with office 360 or libre office.ve Cheap Its multifunction It does A3 and has all the other bells and whistles, wifi etc At least Stationery Packs is the vendor and so you have better service than with Brother who are a variety of swear words.About 34 months after buying this, the device just randomly stopped accepting any prints from my PC. After doing the basic check of cables new USB lead etc and running one of the basic maintenance prints and checking all was well in services.msc, I went through the below troubleshooting and each failed miserably1. Uninstalling and reinstalling the driver manually from device manager, restart2. Repeating the above as well as then uninstalling the software and running ccleaner, restart3. Updating firmware and repeating step 2, even though that was the first thing I did when I received it.4. Waited for the next windows update and repeated step 25. Formatted my c drive and restored a back up image with Aomei so a true system image not the windows restore crap from the state windows was in July prior to even owning the printer ie. fresh install with updates and basic software and security. Downloaded a fresh copy of the software and drivers, installed, restarted and nothing.Eventually after the main Covid lockdown was relaxed I was able to speak to an actual human being about it at Brother tech support I didnt want to return it if it was fixable, and, he went through printing a head alignment page, and then 5 rounds of nozzle cleaning. He then said if that didnt work they would have to escalate and they would need the receipt for the ink even when it was quite clearly able to print the maintenance page, it just wasnt receiving instructions via USB new cable too, grrr. If it were the cartridges it wouldnt have been able to print the alignment page at all But he just kept repeating that its for technical reasons, I said it was invasive and means lots of peeps wont have receipts for ink I mean, really, who keeps receipts for consumables like that So I think its a policy to basically limit who can actually get warranty service and therefore how much Brother loses on faulty products Blame the customer. Then he tried to say its cos the inks go off after 2 years, I said but the machine is less then 7 months old, so thats obviously not the problem and he would not answer why they didnt ask for proof of purchase for the actual machine. So dear readers, heres the customer service risk for you Brother hope that you show them proof of using non Brother ink cartridge which will invalidate the warranty even though a printer engineer I know basically says most of them are harmless unless you get really cheap stuff on ebay or something, and dont clean the nozzles and heads enough, but a lot of companies do this. I am currently looking at my over priced brother cartridges with utter disdain and will never buy any of their products again they wont accept the actual bloody cartridges or the ones that are unopened and purchased at the same time. The reason they do not ask for proof of purchase for the machine, is because most people dont get that far, no one keeps that stuff and they know it. Cynical is too kind for them. The rub is that according to DPA and GPDR no company or organisationbody, etc, can ask for more personal data than is necessary, ink cartridge is not necessary if the printer is clearly capable of printing and doesnt count as proof of purchase anyhow. Secondly, it is their responsibility to prove that whatever fault is because of whatever they say so if they try to mug you out of warranty, go to the information commissioners office and start a complaint and contact consumer direct to escalate with Brother insert any other printer manufacturer, I would also gamble that trading standards would be very interested to know they and other companies are enforcing anticompetitive practices by trying to force their consumers not to buy competitor ink. If ANY printer manufacturer tries this BS, fight it cos its so full of manure I think we could terraform Mars with it.Fortunately, Stationery Packss customer service is excellent and they have issued a courier and refund for the obviously faulty printer. I. Hate. This. Printer. Got it out of the box and it was great for a week. Then had problems with it going offline and we constantly had to reset our internet and printer, enter all the passwords, unplug it's etc. THEN it decided only to connect to my cell phone's hot spot. Still issues there but it finally works…only if I'm home and not if my son needs to use it. Okay. But NOW the ink had to be changed and it won't recognize the new, full, Brother brand ink. So I get to go to my office now to print all my stuff. I'm about to throw the printer over a cliff.Nancy Greco
The Brother MFCJ6930DW is a proper multi function printer. It is for a busy home office, a small business or a large business workgroup. It is physically quite large and heavy but the build quality is superb. Mine is loaded with A4 in tray 1, A3 in tray 2 and the rear feeder contains envelopes. There is absolutely nothing this model cant do, it will scan, copy and print all paper sizes up to A3 and all paper inputs have a built in duplexer for double sided printing and scanning. What I like best about this model is the speed it starts up and shuts down, my previous printer was an Epson and it drove me insane, whenever you turned the Epson on from cold, woke it from sleep or turned it off, it went through some strange calibrationcleaning ritual that could take up to two minutes. The Brother on the other hand just gives a little audible jingle and then sits ready to work. Another nice feature is that this is a front loading ink cartridge system, so no faffing about trying to load the ink onto a moving print head, you just slide the cartridges into the front ink bay and you are good to go. This also means that the standard ink cartridges can be upgraded to very large XL versions for huge printing capability. Also, hats off to Brother for allowing their machines to use third party ink suppliers so that running the machine is good value. I even like the cartridges themselves as they have a little float on the top of the cartridge inside a small clear window to let you know for certain if the ink is used up. The front LCD display is also very well thought out, I have used printers in the past where the LCD is used to give utterly useless and unessessary information, but the Brother display is very business focussed and basically gives you the main machine functions, a set of user programmable shortcuts so you can select your most used features quickly, or choose from a very sensible collection of apps to enhance the printers abilities, so for example, you can add an app to scan any documents to a searchable PDF, a Word document, a PowerPoint project or an Excel spreadsheet, or you can scan and send to an email recipient or a cloud storage service. The supplied software is also worthy of mention because the properties interface is very clean and well thought out and again allows the user to add their own quick access shortcuts, the software feels light and not weighed down with unessessary photo editing and labelling features. The only optional software offered during setup was a full version of the Paperport file management suite. The last feature I really like about the MFCJ6930DW is its night time quiet mode. This mode slows the print heads down and lowers the noise and vibration from the printer if for example your home office is next to a childs bedroom, because in normal print quality this printer is no slouch, it picks up the next sheet of paper before it has even finished printing the second side of the previous sheet. There are smart phone apps that allow air printing direct to the printer, with Android phone users being able to connect to the printer even quicker using the NFC pad on the front left of the machine. The LCD display also swivels up and down in case you are using the printer while stood up rather than sitting down. The machine will also print and scan directly tofrom the USB port on the front.CharChar

Reviews:
This printer has an excellent value to price ratio, much better than the competition. The features and functions are easy to use, and the print quality is very good. Also, the price of replacement toner cartridges is very reasonable compared to the competition. The reason for the 4 stars is because I believe the print quality could be better than “very good”. Color printing quality can also be improved, but certainly not bad at all. Another reason for the 4 stars is because Brothwr could have designed this printer to be a little smaller and lighter in weight. I just feel for a portable printer it should be a few pounds lighter and a smaller footprint. All in all though, I still love this printer.CWA1
The printer was shipped directly to my home. It arrived on time – and was faster and easier than getting a 50 lb. box from the store. (the printer itself weighs just over 40 lbs.) It installed easily and has worked perfectly since. It is a great value for full color laser class printer. It uses LED's instead of a laser, and the packaging refers to it as a digital printer. It operates like a laser printer in that it uses dry toner and electrostatic imaging drums. This is a replacement for an Epson inkjet printer that only lasted less than 4 years – as the print head clogged and parts were no longer available. The advantage of this printer is that dry toner does not have a shelf life and does not have to be used very regularly before drying out and wrecking the printer. The compromise is that toner color is not as deep or rich as inkjet print color – and so it is not really aimed at printing photographs. So far, I am extremely happy with my purchase!Mark
I've had this for 1 month and very happy. I wanted a color Laser to replace my HP inkjet but running Linux reduces driver availability. HP provides very good Linux driver support but after reading some bad reviews about HP's instant ink program I decided to look elsewhere. I use a Brother at work and was impressed by the quality and ruggedness. After a trip to the website I found full driver support for Linux. I'm sold Ordered it on Sunday night and Wednesday it was on the front porch. Drivers for Win X are on a CD but for Linux users, follow the setup instructions then go to the website and download the drivers for your Distro. Follow the instructions and install the drivers. The install went flawlessly and the printer works perfectly. I am running Linux Mint/Mate 20.01 No issues at all.Fredzo

Reviews:
We've been Brother users our whole life. Although they've had some challenges, lately, we decided to upgrade our 10-year old MFC-9340CDW and after some research, the MFC-L3770CDW was it. Although not a huge upgrade over the 9340, for a reasonable price you do get new consumables (belt, drum, waste toner, etc.) and it is noticeably quieter and faster. The touch screen is the same size, but no longer feels like you're pushing on a flimsy plastic screen and the response time was quick! The other noticeable difference was the ADF feeder is much more "solid" when compared to the 9340. You still get Paperport and the Brother applications, as well. For this last part (almost netted 4 stars from me for this, if it weren't for the product focus) the ordering experience was painful. Due to the global shortages, no one carries this in store currently. When we were finally able to order online, it took several weeks to deliver and was stuck in "out for delivery" status for almost a week. Office Depot was great about it, though, and followed-through to the end with us.AFGWN
I purchased the MFC-L3770CDW printer because of its cost and belief that a laser print will provide quality printing. As a sole proprietor, having cost effective solutions is important. While providing professional documents to my clients is even more important. Unfortunately, Brother’s MFC-L3770CDW has disappointed on both fronts. The print quality of the documents is illegible. The documents are blurry and look as those the toner cartridges are low even when they are brand new Brother’s genuine ink toners. It also does not matter the platform (Laptop, Phone, or desktop), the operating system (Windows, iOS, etc.), or the application (MS, Adobe etc.) the quality is simply bad and does not meet expectations for a laser printer. When I need to share a hardcopy document with a client, I always print from my HP Inkjet with provides significantly better-quality documents.Jerry
Buyer beware, may die just a week or two out of warranty and Brother won't help you or even give suggestions on how to clear a "No Toner" warning that, no matter what you try to do, you won't be able to clear. Even if you buy all four new toner cartridges for almost the same price as the printer to "fix" the issue, it won't go away, leaving you with a $400 or rather $800-pound new-toner paperweight. Mind you, this is, or was, a pampered four-color laser that got lightly used at most once-a-week printing of a few pages here and there until, one day, just outside warranty, it suddenly displayed "No Toner. Open the Top Cover, then install Toner Cartridge." Only, of course, there were toner cartridges in there, and they were rather full. Like a two-times-over idiot (first time, buying this printer) I bought four more genuine Brother toner cartridges, installing them, hoping that would fix it but now. It'll just keep on displaying that error. Extensive and exhaustively searched Brother's official help(less) site, a bunch of DIY fix-it sites (Tom's is really good) and Reddit to find this exact error that will turn your printer into a brick is somewhat common and there's no fix for, no workaround, it's dead, Jim and, much like me, will occur right about when the warranty expires. Fancy that. In fact, while talking with Brother's tech support, if it had been under warranty, the best they will trade it for a refurbished machine, not a new one. The person I was dealing with, Jean at Brother's Tech Support, even initially offered me this for a good minute or two until she said "oh wait, you're just out of warranty, ignore that, we can't help you. Maybe try an authorized service center, the repairs will be on you." Repairs that would be more expensive than just buying, say the Canon equivalent in the same class as the Brother, one that beats the Brother in all online reviews, and that Best Buy sells for less than the Brother? Fool me once for switching brands, fool me twice for your lack of supporting your product and providing no workaround for what seems like a software error? No thanks. Do yourself a favor, Best Buy has a GREAT selection of laser printers in the same class for around the same great price. Avoid Brother, pick a more reputable brand that will stand behind its machines. Don't be left high and dry owning a mint condition printer DOA by an unpassable false error you can't clear yourself. Save yourself the frustration. Never again.Nekritz

Reviews:
Two complaints: The 1st complaint I have with this printer is when we print 8 x10 landscape photos on glossy photo paper we get two white horizontal lines that start about in the middle vertically and horizontally and continue to the right edge. This does not happen on 4 x6 or 5 x 7 photos. I have run through all of the maintenance procedures several times without any better results. The printer is used daily for printing normal print jobs like emails etc. It is not like the printer is not used for extended periods of time. The ink are the original tanks, and the printer was purchase in May of 2022 The second complaint I have is that the wireless connection goes to sleep, and we need to refresh the connection to print most of the time. When purchasing this printer, I was led to believe by the description that this would not happen. This was not an inexpensive printer. These two complaints make this printer very disappointing to us and will likely not consider purchasing another product with the Brother brand name again. I wait to submit reviews on products until they are used for a reasonable amount of time to make sure that we have put the products through normal usage. There are many good parts of this printer that we like, such as the scanner software and the high volume paper trays.Garry
I wanted to start off by saying the reason I gave this printer 4 stars rather than 5. This printer only has a touch screen and physical power button with no other physical buttons. While the touchscreen interface is the primary interface of this brother printer I was still missing the physical buttons that other similar brother printers have and that I have used (and yes are still available and haven't been phased out). This is because the screen is very small and is packed with loads of options and settings. In addition this copier is a MFC with dual trays so I feel as though the screen is not sufficient. If the screen was maybe a few inches bigger I think it would make a world of a difference. However, for my use I normally activate the features using my computer but I do often still use the printers standalone features often as well. The printer was very easy to setup and took me about 15 minutes which included the printer head alignment. Without the alignment (which I believe is mandatory) it would have taken only 5 minutes so you really don't have to stand around for to long. The ink cartridges are massive and I could definitely tell they would last a year for my use. I have used other year long ink from brother and it seems very true to its word. The dual trays are nice as you can either load up on lot of paper or use the top tray (lets say) for specialty items like envelopes or other different sized paper. The top tray is also smaller than the bottom tray but both seem very reasonably sized. When you load paper the brother screen will also prompt you to update what type facility you have in each tray. There is also a rear loading slot to print one item at a time in case you don't want to change your print settings on trays 1 and 2. The printer and scanners are both very quick and made for a business or home office use. Brother definitely has more quality than other brands (in my opinion). Lastly, my favorite feature which is somehow hard to find! A USB A port is located on the front of this printer. Which is awesome because you can print right from a USB stick or save right to a USB stick without having to use a computer! Something that I think should be on every printer!Tstall
We usually purchase the cheapest printer, but since we don't use it every day the ink usually dried up. This time we opted to spend a little bit more for this Brother Inkvention model, which is supposed to have sealed ink tanks and keep from drying out. We haven't had it long enough to know if that feature was worth it yet, but the printing we've done so far has been excellent quality, both color and black. The printer is a nice compact size yet holds a lot of paper. It fits nicely on top of a small filing cabinet. The control panel angles out to make for easier reading. The printer was delivered in a timely manner, and Best Buy alerted us to a brief shipping delay. The set up was fairly easy for two "seasoned citizens"! The only confusion came with pairing the printer to our smartphone for wireless printing and we needed a password for our phone. After a search we learned how to find it and the wireless printing works well! We anticipate keeping this printer for the rest of our lives. If it continues to perform as well as so far, that should become a reality.Kruss

Reviews:
I want to start with the good that could have earned this unit 5 stars by itself. The MFC-J1205w multipurpose printer is magnificent. The colors on my presentation were flawless with no paper bleed while printing. The machine prints black and white at a surprisingly great rate of speed for a printer in this price point too. Picture printing is actually really good but that is not what I think of as the go to for this unit. I still do not quite believe the Inkvestment portion of this product, but I will say I printed a ton of stuff and according to Brother’s I can print a ton more at almost 1,200 pages worth before having to get a refill. Brother like others has a pay refill program that I perused on and feel like it could be a great value when the time comes. On to the negative for me, I gave this device 3 stars ONLY because I was not a fan of the original setup process. It took me forever just to get the printer to connect to my WiFi. Then I had several issues with the drivers for my PC, the Brother website registration process, and the app. I am pretty easy going with regards to setup and installation, especially on a new device but this was silly. I 100 percent understand that they will work through these hiccups, but it is 2021 and their competitors don't have these bumps. Once installed though, everything works fine printing and scanning from the PC. The app is super fluid and easy to use on my android device. But I always think about how easy this would be for my mother to come over and print to. It would not be right now for this particular Brother's printer. So, for now 3 not 5 stars and I am not just being generous with that the print again earned those hands down.Christopher
Brother printers seem to be of exceptionally high quality. The last one I had worked for 11 years and then started printing only blank pages. I tried a Canon next but after only a month or 2, it stopped printing under Windows, though its scanner/copier function still worked. So, I went back with a Brother. I had wanted to buy Brother before but my local OD store didn't have any in stock. So, I ordered this unit from their web site. It's been a few months now and it still prints fine, so it must have been the previous Canon that was defective. Let's hope this one lasts another 11 years! The ink tanks also appear to be an improvement over the old ink cartridge system. With my old Brother, I had to replace the ink cartridges every few months. On this one, I haven't had to get new ink tanks yet. Another improvement over my old Brother is it would clean itself seemingly every day, which, to me, was just a means to waste ink and force you to buy ink cartridges more often than you needed to. This model appears to clean itself only when the power is cycled back on after it's been turned off.dbminter
The Brother MFCJ1205W INKvestment printer seems like Brothers entry-level INKvestment printer seeing that it is just your basic 3in1 Print, Copy and Scan printer. However, it does come with wireless technology by the way of WIFI and has an app called Brother Mobile Connect that enables you to print any document or picture you desire from your phone. The app is very well laid out and easy to use. I would have liked to have seen more info on the different ways to set up the printer on the network with direct connect and using the IP address of the printer and cloud print in the set up instructions. The easiest way to get it online is to just add it to your network during set up on your computer when it gives you the choice. I tried setting it to local on the computer it was connected to and it still prompted me to let it be connected to the internet on a couple of the additional steps for diagnostics and ink management etc. I was going to connect it local and use direct connect to print from my phone and I could not get it to work that way like I have before with other printers. It may do it but with the Brother software suite installed on the computer they really want the printer online so they can tell you when to buy more Brother ink for it and for diagnostics as well as the online suite that is available. I just went ahead and installed all of the software including the extra document handling software that seemed to be quite useful and included pdf software. The MFCJ1205W holds a lot of paper in the slide out paper tray. I do not know if it is 250 sheets but it seemed like at least 150 maybe 200. More than twice as much as the old printer it replaced. It also has easy-to-access ink tanks on the right front of the printer. You just open up a door and there is a separate compartment for just the ink rather than having to open up half the printer to replace cartridges like other inkjet printers I have had. I really loved the ease of access and simplicity involved with changing ink tanks. Another feature I liked was the hideaway USB cord connection on the side under the scanner lid. Additionally, I noticed is that for a compact all-in-one printer the Brother MFCJ1205W has some weight to it and feels like it is very well built and sturdy. For anyone looking for a simple 3in1 printer without a document feeder or fax capability, this is actually the best one I have come across and the fact that you can get it for $99.00 and it is an INKvestment printer with large capacity ink tanks available makes it a great deal to me. I would not hesitate to recommend it!Androidaholic

Reviews:
After several years my old printer of a different brand gave it up. I need to be able to print 11×17 so I am somewhat restricted. I have never used Brother printer before. The price seemed almost too good for what was offered, but the brand had good reviews so I gave it a try. I could not be more pleased. The quality of print is excellent and must say I love the larger ink capacity. I have used the printer for many purposes including photo paper and it is outstanding.Termite from Branson
Needed to replace our 8 year old colour laser jet which was ghosting and due to chip shortage did not have many options to choose from. Decided to pick an inkjet this time after reading about the ink tanks and how it can be economical. Originally used inkjet in the past but did not like having to clean the heads and the constantly buying new refills. Also wanted a wireless printer. Got it back and after using it for a month, we are glad we bought it. Only downside was our company does not allow wireless printing but we were able to print wireless from our mobile devices and home computer. Good quality, quick and quiet. Have also used scanning and copying and also impressed by results. It is just a big printer and kinda makes our apartment look like an office.Inkjet born again
We still own a large bed Brother form about 10 years ago but finally threw in the towel and bought the MFC-J5845DW. Great decision great new printer. Have yet to purchase print cartridges, but looks like Brother branded cartridges are reasonably priced when calculated on a per page print basis. Besides great prints, here are a few of other unanticipated features that we like. Very fast printing Able to print directly from iPhone and Android smart phones and tablets. Very stable Wi-Fi system. Able to print two sided pages. Accepts heavy 11×17 photo paper – I am using 61# paper with no feed issues. Print quality on photo paper rivals that of color lasers even on 11×17. Be aware that even though this printer prints 11×17, the max scan size is LR/LGL. Not a big issue with us as we seldom it ever need to scan 11×17 and if we do, then we can scan it sections and use apps to knit together.

Reviews:
Perfect printer for home or small business but does have a brother flaw . It was quick and painless to setup on the wireless network even without a computer. Wakes up quick and prints great. We did have to initially clean the drum quick because of lines on the outside edge but that was only a minor 2 second inconvenience. Now for the annoying flaw that brother along with some others laser printers have. If you are using a afci(arc fault) breaker then it will trip the breaker almost every time it wakes up. I never had this issue with my old hp commercial laser printer but this one does it 98% of the time. After some research I found this is a known issue for brother along with some other laser printers. Partly it is due to the design of the breaker itself though too and some vacuum cleaners will trip them also. If possible I would plug it in to a non afci breaker circuit. I do wish there was another solution though because that is quite annoying. If you use the printer regularly maybe preventing it from sleeping will help but if you just use it occasionally like me then be prepared to reset the breaker every time you need to use itCharlie
I haven't printed too many pages yet, but the quality seems good enough. Time will tell regarding reliability of the printer. However… The printer came with no installation/use instructions in the box–not even a quick-start guide. I downloaded the user manual from the manufacturer's website–but it was close to useless, because it was so difficult to find pertinent info in the manual. The machine was shipped with Russian as the default language on the printer's info screen. Nowhere in the user guide could I find instructions on how to change the language to English. When I tried to connect the printer to my wi-fi network, the user manual said to press the printer's wi-fi button, then follow the instructions on the printer's info screen. Since the instructions were in Russian, that was impossible. Only because I've connected several other wireless printers in the past was I able to connect this one. Eventually I was able to find out how to change the default language on the printer–but not from the online user manual. Once I got the printer running, I found that the default paper handling mode was……..manual feed. It took another hour of research online to find out how to change to tray feed. Ultimately it took about 5 hours of frustration to get the printer to work properly. Hopefully it will operate properly for long enough to justify the work I had to put into it to get it to work. In my opinion, a printer sold in the USA should have, as its default language, English! And there should be quick start instructions included in the package that at least tell how to change basic functions of the printer–like language, single-side or duplex printing, and manual or tray paper feed. My rating is based mostly on the problems I encountered in setting the printer up, not on its operational capabilities.Mia
Went to a local retail store. I tell Employee what kind of printer I want. Employee tells me this printer is the one I want. Get it home, you download and install software called "iPrint/Scan". Great, that's what I want it to do. Except come to find out the employee at the store didn't know what he was talking about and the labeling and name Brother puts on the software is deceptive. This printer doesn't scan at all. It just copies existing documents off your computer or computer file folder, that's it. It doesn't scan or print… It just scans existing documents. There's no place to put a document to get it to copy it or scan it. Deceptive is Brother's middle name. They were no help except to tell me which printer I should have bought. Thanks.scripe57

Reviews:
Horrible product waste of time returned it within first 3 days. Ink leaked and ruined pair of sweatpants. Customer care/tech support could have cared less. The supposed "starter" ink was not in the box and had to buy ink. The printer is slower than molasses going up hill in December. If you can afford to avoid this product, spend a little bit more and get something of quality.James
This printer does not allow you to print in black even with a full cartridge if one of the colour cartridges is low. There has not been a way around it. My old Canon, which I had for many years, always allowed me to print in black no matter the status of the colour cartridges. This is absolutely infuriating. Also, I've installed new cartridges, and the printer immediately says they are empty. Or, as another reviewer says, you have to clean the heads and that uses up most or all of the toner. I almost never print in colour yet my colour cartridges last only a few months then I'm forced to replace them. The XL black one, despite me only printing a handful of pages over a few months, also runs out. Don't believe the "# of pages" claim. It is a tremendous rip-off and I won't buy a Brother again despite initially liking it. Another point is that the screen and buttons are unnecessarily complex and hard to figure out without a lot of consternation.Infuriated
The 'Brother' printer self-cleans; the 'HP Envy' printer does not and the cleaning function needs to be constantly performed on the 'Envy'. The 'Brother' printer has separate cartridges for cyan/yellow/magenta/black, clearly denoting cartridge ink levels. Furthermore, the 'Brother' printer's ink cartridges do not deplete automatically, whereas the 'HP Envy' ink cartridges constantly needed to be replaced, even when little to no printing had been performed for an extended time frame. The 'Brother' printer has a scan function that allows page insert prior to a page already scanned; the 'HP Envy' does not. The only major drawback shared by both printers is that a scan function ought to default to the ENTIRE scan area. I am not sure why limitations are preset for the scan size when the scan window is a fixed size anyway. Overall the 'Brother' printer outperforms the 'HP Envy' in terms of ink efficiency and reliable printing output, yet the scan defaults stand for common-sense improvement.JT on Brother

The Brother – MFC-J1170DW Wireless Color All-in-One inkjet printer in black is a nice, compact printer that is mostly easy to install. Since I am a CPA in public practice, I use all kinds of printers for all sorts of applications-mostly laserjet for fast numerous printing of lengthy tax returns, but all in one inkjets for billing and other miscellaneous printing jobs. The only hiccup that I had was after I had officially set up the printer. So, on its LCD screen there was a message that a firmware update was available. I hit the arrow that takes you through a series of prompts to eventually have to enter a password. Well, silly me, I thought the password was the same one as my online Brother account and even changed that thinking I had it wrong when the message on the machine's screen kept telling me that I had the incorrect password. Little did I realize that on the back of the machine there is a little stamped area that not only has the machine's serial number, but also has a PWD and I believe 7 combo of letters, caps and lower case, numbers, and special characters. The easiest way for me to enter and read was to use my phone's camera to take a picture and read and enter it into the machine. I did wind up calling Brother's toll free number, speak with someone off shore, I believe from their accent, which I do not like. However, after almost pulling my hair out over this password thing, all was done. I already had the Brother set-up program and its utility type programs so downloading the necessary software to my older desktop was easy. I have a newer Dell 2 in 1 on a different floor and that connected to this new Brother machine quite easily, too. Pros-small enough to set on an ottoman, see attached picture, or on any desk surface area. Quick 1st paper out, quality of print, and speed. This is good for smaller office type jobs or smaller home type jobs. I also had the Brother Mobile Connect app already downloaded to my smartphone and I love using that to print necessary items right from my phone. The literature states that ISO print speeds are up to 17ppm for black print and up to 16.5 ppm for color print. I used wireless connectivity, but there is ethernet available, automatic duplex (2 sided) printing, and many things , like the Cloud, Dropbox, etc., can be reached directly from the machine itself, and a 20 page auto doc feeder. Con-Does not state on the box that it is compatible with the recently release Windows 11, so I would call the toll free Brother number and get an opinion on that if you have that operating system. I have not priced replacement Brother brand ink for this machine-there is a "Refresh" Brother program found at www.RefreshmentEZPrint.com that is similar to that of HP's instant ink program where the machine communicates with them seamlessly and for a monthly fee, based on projected number of pages to be printed on a monthly basis, you will receive ink without even having to request it by mail or some other delivery service of their choosing. This machine comes with only starter cartridges for Bk/C/M/Y. The standard ones per Brother will print around 200 pages where the high yield print up to 500 ;ages. I will be looking into the best ink pricing to see what is the most economical way to buy ink because unfortunately, that can be more in the long run than the machine itself.KansasMeddlingMom
So, this little printer is a highly impressive specimen. Not only was it incredibly easy to set up and get going with the easy-to-follow instructions, but it prints like a bat flying out of hell! I actually swore with surprise the first time I printed off a text page and it just shot out of there like a high velocity rifle round–printed with perfect accuracy. This is a compact, user-friendly printer—highly economical this inflationary day of age, with ink that according to my research is actually rather economical to replace too! That is a huge win for me all around. The size means that this printer is friendly on most workspaces and is honestly perfect for the occasional printer like me who wasn’t looking for something crazy fancy or high-volume. What I really wanted that this printer has, is the ability to scan documents easily to my Onedrive account. I upload manual timecards to my company via scans, and my old printer lost its ability as it is so old to connect to my Onedrive account to upload scans directly to the Onedrive folder I had selected. Getting this Brother printer set up to do it was easy and now I have that ability back again! I am very pleased with this. Altogether, I can’t think of a better entry-level printer at this time. I do miss when entry-level, beginner printers were cheaper, but this printer seems to have the ability to do it all while being user friendly and compact, and I don’t know if I can give it a better recommendation than that! Thanks for reading and hope this review helps you feel confident in your purchase!Bren
Pros: * Wireless * Multi-functional * Easy to set up * Small footprint Cons: * Uses ink cartridges (vs refillable tanks) * Touch screen is hard to use * Can only print files (other than Word docs) through their proprietary program Keep in mind, I'm reviewing this compared to my experience with a variety of multi-function printers from different brands (including Brother), both wired and wireless. Also, I'm running Windows 11, as an FYI. Personally, I prefer the tank printers over the cartridges. I don't print that often, so the ink frequently just sits there, and after using for the first time after a couple of weeks of rest, I tend to get better performance with the tank printers than I do with cartridge printers. Plus, there's the environmentally friendly part of using the tanks, as well. The touch screen is difficult to use – the buttons are entirely too small, and even with my smallest fingertip my touches weren't getting registered correctly (i.e., I pressed 8 and it registered a 5, and this happened multiple times). Red flag and star loss for me: I can't seem to get any PDFs or pictures (JPGs and PNGs) to print unless I use their proprietary program to open and then print the file, which is a pain! I've never run into this issue with any other printer (wired or wireless), so I'm not sure if it is a Brother thing or something else. I was able to print a Word doc from Word without a problem, however! That all being said…it was easy enough to set up and get connected wirelessly to my computer and network, but with the requirement of going through their proprietary app to print anything, I personally would pass on this printer. That extra hassle just isn't worth it when other printers don't have this restriction.erinb16
