With 3b curls that are dry, coarse, long, tangly and graying…I've been struggling lately. I want so badly to keep my hair long and grow it longer than I've ever had the patience to. I purchased this Ouidad VitalCurl mousse today (last one on the shelf!), because I was desperately trying to just get my hair to look good. I got home with my new product and hit the shower right away. After washing/conditioning I put a bit of my previously purchased Ouidad VitalCurl Tress Effects Gel in my palm and added a a nice dollop of this mousse on top and mixed it together until no foam remained and I was left with a wonderfully slippery gel-consistency. I repeated the process once more to make sure I coated everything. I used an Olivia Garden brush to distribute the product and let it dry naturally. It didn't take as long to fully dry as when I use my gel with other hair creams and my hair had a cast that was so perfect it still looked wet when it was fully dry. I was so happy with the results that I feel like I can let this unruly mom keep on growing. At least my ponytail would look good and not a frizzy mess like it usually does. This is THE one product from Ouidad that I feel I can't do without. Granted, I haven't used it by itself but when a curly girl finds her perfect recipe, it's a challenge to stray from it for fear of ruining the outcome. As a side note, I have used the gel mentioned above by itself and I loved the curl formation, however, it's a very foamy gel once I start applying it and it makes a squooshing noise and turns white. I really like this mousse for my waves/curls but I wish it combated humidity. it sadly doesn't hold up throughout the hot days either, regardless of scrunching out the light crunch or not. my hair is between chin and tops of shoulders and cut shaggy so I know its not the length weighing it down and i only use one other product with it, Olaplex smoothing bond styling creme. overall though i do like it a lot. but once this bottle is finished ill be on the hunt for another mousse that can withstand the heat and humidity.kalirocker
So i had really high hopes for this because the brand looked interesting and the smell was great. I tried it once on freshly washed hair to see what it could do as a stand alone product. The answer was…. absolutely nothing. I saw my waves starting to leave their clumps even while i was putting it through my wet hair because it encouraged so much frizz. I chalked it up to not using it right so i used it again a few days later on damp unwashed hair with my normal defining cream and it looked promising! For about 2 hours after it dried at least. Then my hair was just a poofy frizzy mess. I may try it again and use my gel, but i am no lomger feeling optimistic about this product. This is now a staple in my hair styling routine. I have been spraying this on my hair every day before I walk out the door. It is a very lightweight hairspray and the hold is perfect for my needs. What I most love about this product is that it keeps my hair safe from frizz throughout the day. I have found that if I spray too much it sometimes leaves a slight white residue on my hair but this doesn’t happen very often and it’s not very noticeable. While a bit annoying, the benefits outweigh the cons for me, as long as I don’t go overboard on any particular section my hair stays almost completely frizz free throughout the day, regardless of humidity!araceli.r
I received this sample from Influenster for my honest review. To begin, my hair is type 1 and slightly on the dry side. It thin to medium, unprocessed and is fairly silky. For me, this worked okay, not great (although I’m not one to style my hair often). It has a decent hold and decent humidity resistance. The crunch is expected for a firm hold so I did not mind it as long as it held my hair in place. For an average day, it held my hair for a few hours (not all day). The smell is good, but I have a sensitive nose so the smell does linger on for quite a bit which I don’t particularly enjoy. One concern I do have is that I noticed a bit of a white residue on my hair with this. I should mention, however, that my sister tried it and said she liked it and that it held her hair well. I will start by saying that I deducted a star because it says this is a humidity-resistant hairspray and I was super excited about that element of this product but I didn't notice any humidity protection. Now onto the things I like about this hairspray… this hairspray REALLY dries fast, like almost instantly and I like that a lot. This hairspray also holds my hairstyle extremely well and for the whole day. The thing I love most about this hairspray is that it provides so much volume to my hair! I just did like the bottle said and lifted my hair and sprayed close to my roots. I've used a couple of different volumizing hair sprays but this one provided the best results, it just didn't last because the humidity flattened my hair and curls. If you don't like scents, you may not like this. It has a hairspray smell mixed with a slight floral type of smell. I like it, it smells better than other hairsprays to me. I found it pretty hard to wash this hairspray out of my hair, which is a good thing because it probably holds up well in the rain. Even though I deducted a star I'd still recommend this because it's a great hairspray, I love the volume it added to my hair!

I have used this mousse for several years now. I have naturally curly hair and this mousse keeps my hair soft while holding my curl. It comes out as a foam, that turns into more of a gel. It definitely doesn't make my hair feel stiff like some other mousses I have used in the past. Like most products for me, sometimes I have to change my product out. My particular hair type kind of gets tired of the same products. This is definitely something that works for my hair and I will continue to use however. Unlike the other reviewers, I am extremely impressed with this product. Although it dispenses like a mousse, on the hair is has a consistency of a balm, so very little product is required. At application, it is slightly sticky on the hair. While air-drying, my waves behaved with no frizziness or flyaways, but my hair felt a little stiff. To my great surprise, a little scrunching removed any stiffness, leaving only perfectly tame and soft waves. My hair was soft and super shiny. I use a dime-size dollap on the ends of next-day hair and I am good to leave the house. To put things in perspective, this is the only product that my hair needs when air-drying – one product instead of four to five! My only nit? This mousse behaves far more like a gel. I cannot stress this enough. I was recommended this product by a friend who was recommended by a hairdresser. So far, I've tried it with partially towel dried hair, "plopped" hair, and very wet hair. This product works best on wet hair, period. Any sort of drying, even just plopping, can alter the results. I can imagine this would still work for some people, but ideally, you will want to scrunch this into wet hair. My best results so far paired with a leave in conditioner, a styling cream, and a gel (a very hydrating gel). I am excited to try with other combinations and without the other gel, too. There's so many possibilities, and aside from the learning curve, it's a great product that smells fantastic and has GREAT hold. The key to success is proper hydration and pairing, which is what you could say about any product, really. I have tried so many creams, gels, sprays and mousses for my fine curly hair and most of them just weighed it down or made my hair feel crunchy. This foam is really lightweight and definitely helped to boost my curls and hold them in place. I didn’t need a whole lot and it kept my curls in place, even after sleeping on them. The next morning, my curls still looked great. It dries a little stiff at first but I just scrunch the curls to break the cast and they turn out nice and soft. I love how it smells, too! I received this product free for testing purposes. My views are completely my own, of course. I love the weightless feel and how easily the foam blends into my hair. I love the lightly floral/ fruity scent. I don't think that it is strong enough to hold my curls tight because of the length of my hair, which is to my upper back. I did note that when it dried it didn't flake and it was easy to brush out. I am not sure what it costs but I think for short hair this would be a fun addition. I purchased this product at Walgreens. I have very thick and frizzy hair that is almost impossible to manage. I was looking for something that would allow me to look nice while wearing my hair down. This mousse works very well in doing that. My curls lasted for a long period of time. I even slept with my hair down and they still looked good. This product did a great job at preventing frizz in my hair as well. My only issue with this product is that it made my hair look darker or slightly wet the entire time it was in my hair. My hair is fine and thin. I use a cream hair gel and mousse to tame my curls, so I have quite a bit of product to wash out after 2 days of not washing. That's the longest I can go without shampooing, even though they say longer is best. I typically lose quite a bit of hair when I shampoo for some reason. My typical routine between shampoos is to rinse my hair with water as best as I can then use a regular conditioner to ease out the tangles. I bought this product to give a try, since I heard that co-washing curly hair is better. While using this product I felt like my hair wasn't as clean as I would want it to be and still felt the need to use a regular conditioner. I'm glad I didn't buy the larger bottle. What a fun brand – this packaging is so retro! Even though it is not my go to product, I do enjoy it. I found mine in Marshalls, but other than that you can mainly buy it from Amazon making it harder to find. It does enhance your curly hair create nice texture without weighing your hair down. Easy to distribute and a little goes a long way. So if you can find it in store buy it, but I normally do drugstore having to order online is not always easy to do. This product had good hold but I am dissatisfied with how quickly it went flat. I used as directed but the bottle has at least 90% of contents left and no longer expands into a foam when dispensed. It is a runny mess to use and I suspect I use too much when it doesn’t expand. Hair ends up heavy and frozen as if it is still wet. I will not purchase this product again.Jenny
Everything about the packaging is great except I do find it hard to only get small bit into your hand. This could be a good and bad thing depending on how you use the product but when I use it I do have to waste some product because so much comes out. The results left my hair very voluminous. I had a huge difference in my hair, which was great. It lasted a while which was even better. The only downfall is it did leave my hair feeling greasy, if I would run my hands through my hair, my hands would feel oily with the residual product on them. My hair did also begin to look oily towards the end of the day (this was freshly cleaned hair and my hair normally doesnt get oily until I sleep on it for a night). But I did overall love the lift result and someone elses hair may absorb it way differently than mine and may not actually leave any residual product. I usually like this product as it gets my hair nicely loose and volumed for blowdrying, and so I ordered 2 bottles online. One of them is fine but the other doesn’t foam up when pumped – it comes out as liquid mush. Returning is too much of a hassle – who has time for that for a $13 product. I heard other reviews and videos rave about this mousse and had to try it. I have to say, they are right. I have fine texture, low porosity natural hair. My hair is short, but when stretched the back comes to my collar bone and the front comes to the end of my nose (to give you a reference). I get good definition using a gel, but this product really defined my hair, and I had more body. Body is a problem for those of us with fine hair. My curls lasted 4 days, especially in the top which is longer. My hair is shorter on the sides and since I sleep on my side the definition fades sooner. I still had a little definition on my sides day 4, but the top still had curls. The first time I used it I only used a moisturizing deep conditioner and the mousse. It did great defining my curls, but left my hair very dry. The next time I used a moisturizing deep conditioner, leave-in conditioner, a moisturizing gel, and a sealing oil with the mousse. Sounds like a lot, but this is the process I have to use every wash day to keep my hair moisturized for 3 days. I did not have any problems with dry hair at all this time. I have thick heavy waves/curls. The product worked well when I used it with a leave in conditioner. The day I was in a rush and didn't put a leave in my hair was course and felt dehydrated. It doesn't help to clump your curls on it's own, but was easy to style and mold my curls with my brush. Dried quickly and smelled good. I didn't get a chance to use it for a long period of time to see the overall quality. The bottle untwisted just enough while under my sink and spilled. Luckily I had it in a container. By day 3 of using the foaming lotion to style my baby hair i had some irritation in my forehead but it wasn’t too bad. I bought this to try after using the curl talk cream and gel religiously for a while which I LOVE. I have mostly type 2b/c hair with some 3A pieces and don't usually have a problem with definition/volume, but this pretty much gave me neither just made my hair frizzy and I really don't like the way it feels to the touch. It leaves a pretty strong cast that is difficult to get out even when scrunching with oil and if you live in a super humid place like me, then so much humidity will make your hair crunchy all over again. I ignored the reviews in hopes that maybe it would work for me to simplify my routine, but I wish I had just repurchased my tried and true instead. I honestly prefer just my hair air dried with only a light leave in (pretty loose waves-not like what I get with the cream/gel but doable) to what this gives me. I'm gunna try to power through and finish this but I have a feeling I won't. Listen to the reviews and just save yourself the time and money it's not worth the like 2% chance this will actually work for you. Although I think if you have super fine, extremely loose waves and you reallllyyyy struggle with volume this may work for you. Maybe. Possibly.Mayham27
Very sticky mousse! Dispensing this foam and rubbing it between my hands felt like I had just opened a bottle of hair spray and poured it into my hands. I couldn't believe how sticky this stuff was! I used a very small amount, applied to my roots first and the combed the rest through my hair with my fingers. After scrunching my hair, washing my hands and blow drying on the lowest setting with a diffuser I was left with wet-looking, crunchy curls. Trying to reactivate the next day by misting my hair with a little water and letting air dry I was left with really dry, hard hair feeling like I had used lots of hair spray. Couldn't get my fingers through it, no way a comb or brush would make it. So happy to wash this stuff out of my hair. Throwing this in the trash and will look for something else. Probably the worst hair product I have ever used and that's saying a lot!Debby
I have low porosity, medium density wavy/looser curly hair. The bottom part of my hair has tighter ringlets/curls while the hair closer to my crown is a bit looser and tends to be weighed down or fall. I use this after applying leave-in and curl cream on wet hair and scrunch in! If I’m using gel, I don’t usually use this since my hair doesn’t really need both! It smells really good (the entire line does!) and it doesn’t weigh my hair down! It’s really easy to emulsify, you don’t need a lot of product. It helps control my frizz and defines my curls much better and it’s so easy to refresh day 2-3 hair with this product too!maria.m

I heard other reviews and videos rave about this mousse and had to try it. I have to say, they are right. I have fine texture, low porosity natural hair. My hair is short, but when stretched the back comes to my collar bone and the front comes to the end of my nose (to give you a reference). I get good definition using a gel, but this product really defined my hair, and I had more body. Body is a problem for those of us with fine hair. My curls lasted 4 days, especially in the top which is longer. My hair is shorter on the sides and since I sleep on my side the definition fades sooner. I still had a little definition on my sides day 4, but the top still had curls. The first time I used it I only used a moisturizing deep conditioner and the mousse. It did great defining my curls, but left my hair very dry. The next time I used a moisturizing deep conditioner, leave-in conditioner, a moisturizing gel, and a sealing oil with the mousse. Sounds like a lot, but this is the process I have to use every wash day to keep my hair moisturized for 3 days. I did not have any problems with dry hair at all this time. I have thick heavy waves/curls. The product worked well when I used it with a leave in conditioner. The day I was in a rush and didn't put a leave in my hair was course and felt dehydrated. It doesn't help to clump your curls on it's own, but was easy to style and mold my curls with my brush. Dried quickly and smelled good. I didn't get a chance to use it for a long period of time to see the overall quality. The bottle untwisted just enough while under my sink and spilled. Luckily I had it in a container. The bottle easily untwist. You should keep the product right side up and make sure it doesn't knock over. Unfortunately it's the bottle quality that keeps me from buying this again. I would suggest checking The Doux’s channel on YouTube to see how she uses the styler depending on the length of the hair. I have a short natural tapered cut and the mousse works best went I finger twirl the top and front. I love the slip and the shine. Even though the hold is soft – it survives my sweaty workouts. I love this product for many reasons. It gives me such lovely definition, volume and texture without leaving a sticky residue and the ingredients are fantastic. I also feel like it plays nicely with every other product I have tried with it. It took me awhile to figure out what application method worked best for my hair and now that I have it down, my hair comes out beautifully, not just on wash day or the day following, but for the entire week, my curls look gorgeous with very little maintenance. I prefer to style my hair with a leave in, a gel/custard/souffle and then I diffuse until it partially dry. Once my hair is 50-60% dry, I add four to eight pumps of this magical foam, focusing on the roots then working my way down the entire length, scrunching along the way, and then I resume diffusing. Excellent results, every time. To refresh, I usually slightly dampen my hair and apply a watered down version of a leave in or curl cream (gel when necessary), hit it with the diffuser and depending on what my hair needs, one or two more pumps of foam, often times, none. I was skeptical about spending almost $30 on one product, especially with my negative experiences with a different higher end brand a few years ago. But I must say, this product is totally worth it for me in regards to quality and how much I use. I get maximum results with little amount of product. I would recommend this product and will most definitely be purchasing it again and again. My curl type for those interested is predominantly 3b with some 3c and 3a mixed in. Normal porosity. I have medium length, 2a hair that's prone to frizziness. My roots can get greasy and the ends of my hair can get dry/develop split ends. I don't spend a lot of time on my hair and I don't like to use a lot of products – I'm looking for something I can put in wet hair to bring out my waves and help my hair air dry nicely. Overall, this product works pretty well for me. It does bring out my waves (albeit not as much as the toxic curl creams I've used in the past) without too much stickiness. It feels lightweight and does add a bit of volume. And, I really like the smell! It's faintly herbally/floral/citrus, without being overpowering. Overall, I'd recommend with the caveat that your expectations shouldn't be the same as traditional curl products from mainstream, prestige (non clean) haircare brands.
I’ve been using clean products for 2.5 years now but finding good hair products that actually work has been a struggle. I have straight/wavy hair so I got this to use as a root volume boost. I have long hair so it usually leaves my roots flat from the weight. I used 2 pumps on my scalp while wet then used a blow dry straightener and I was amazed at the lightness and volume! So glad my beautician recommended this to me. Anytime I need my curls to stay and not be frizzy I use this mousse! With having 4a type curly hair that is prone to dryness, it can be a real challenge to find the right product that does the job but this surpasses my expectations every time! I have also used the curl mousse and curl defining cream to really lock in the moisture. This to me is the same as the curl mousse but you get more per volume with this spray can! I have very fine hair which sometimes causes me absolute horror. This product is absolutely wonderful. You need such a small amount and it creates so much volume. I have long, fine hair with below-average thickness (not thin, but definitely not thick). I have been getting American Waves (a chemical process similar to a perm) for six months, which gives me a 2A/2B very loose waves. (My natural texture is "bendy", a mix of type 1 and 2A.) This is one of many products I have tried for air-dry styling*. I have used medium-hold gels, salt sprays, mousses, and air-dry creams. This is my favorite product so far for Day 1 results, but doesn't perform as well on Day 2+. What I like: – Like other Moroccanoil products, the smell is amazing and not too strong. – Very rich thick foam (definitely feels like a luxe product) – Gives nice definition and volume on Day 1 – Lightly moisturizing and doesn't weigh my hair down – Not sticky at all What I don't like: – It's pricey – On Day 2+, my hair looked "mussed". I still had good definition, but my whole head had more of a frizzy/fuzzy "halo" that I get with my favorite products (or no products). That said, I am still inexperienced with wavy styling, so that might be due to my (lack of) refresh technique. I am going to experiment with that, and see if I get better results. * I have found that my wash technique has a bigger impact on my results than the styling product I use. I wash with Kenra volumizing shampoo and scrunch in their conditioner, wet plopping in a shower cap before rinsing. Then I dry-plop in a microfiber towel after scrunching in a styling product (or not). After air drying, I zhuzh the roots for volume. Different products can improve the definition and volume, but this routine seems to be what makes or breaks the shape, spring, and clumpiness of the waves.Jessica

This product does exactly what I need it to, and is very easy to use! I feel as though the more you use it, the more you see results too. Even on the first day of use my hair looked thicker, healthy, and more alive. The product is not very greasy, and washes off of the hands easily. My hair has been much more manageable and easier to style as well. This is the first hair volumizer I have ever used, and I have a feeling I will have to look no further.
