First off, I rarely leave reviews unless I was amazed how good or how awful something is. I had moderate to bad dandruff for over a decade. I tried everything form the commercial ani-dandruff shampoo, a prescription shampoo, harsh stuff like coal tar, natural / organic shampoos, weird remedies like apple cider vengar, hair washing frequency, but nothing worked more than maybe a week. I tried Nizoral about 18 months ago and within 7-10 days my dandruff cleared up. I still use it once or twice a week. It's been over a year and a half and the dandruff has not returned. I’ve only struggled with occasional dandruff throughout my life. However, a few years ago I noticed this thick, scab like patch. Each time I peeled the scab away, it would come back. Nothing I would do made it go away and I wasn’t certain what it was. Over the years they started multiplying in different areas and got worse recently. Update: 1) Seems to be helping my son's scalp acne. 2) Did not foam up well for me – I have thick, shoulder-length hair. Free and Clear Shampoo is now Vanicream Shampoo. Odd name since it doesn't smell like vanilla, but it does clean the hair without too many chemicals or perfume. Got my first one at CVS for $11 but the price went up by $2-3 dollars. Walmart.com has a two pack that's worth the price. Got it sooner than expected too.Maria
A miracle potion I swear. Had itchy scalp with dandruff for TWO YEARS before I found this magical shampoo. Not a flake in sight, and I never itch anymore. It took 4 uses over a span of about 6 weeks. This shampoo is basically the only thing keeping my dry scalp under control at this point. Usually, I have pretty bad scaling around my hairline and at the back of my head, along with itching, but this shampoo helps keep it to manageable levels. the only reason why I didn’t give this product 5 stars is because it is drying – however I solved this issue by using my regular conditioner. no issue. I started using this shampoo over the summer because I have thick curly hair that is pretty coarse and I always have product buildup which then turns into dandruff. by my third use, my hair was literally flake free. it’s my favorite shampoo and I urge everybody to try it. i’m aware it might not work for everybody, but it’s done wonders for me. in all honesty, I haven’t even used this shampoo since november because my scalp has cleared up that much since june, for the first time in years. My husband has been dealing with moderate to severe scalp psoriasis for several years, and we have spent a small fortune on prescription medications. Even if insurance covers some of these, the cost for most of them can be several hundred dollars. Also, some prescription medications can cause the skin to become thin, so they can only be used for so long. He has tried every available form of these medications such as creams, solutions, foam, etc. I have also purchased every over the counter shampoo I could find. Nothing has worked until I ordered this shampoo. He applies it 2-3 times a week for 15-20 minutes before washing it out, and it really does work. We are so pleased with its effectiveness in controlling the psoriasis, and I have even ordered some for my son who has the same condition. This product is really helpful. My scalp was literally too painful to touch the first time I used this, but not because of the shampoo. After I washed my hair, I waited the recommended amount of days as directed on the bottle and washed my hair again. Within that time, my scalp had completely healed and my hair was able to wash perfectly. With or without your hair being wet, the shampoo gets it really soapy so you don't need to use that much and there's no burning or tingling sensation. My scalp has blemishes, not sure what it is. It happens in summer and in south CA it is almost 7 months. I usually use a therapeutic shampoo from a different brand. Let me preface this with 2 facts about myself: 1) I have had dandruff/dry scalp since I was a kid and nothing had ever helped, and 2) I don’t typically leave reviews, even if I really like a product. With that being said, this is the first dry scalp shampoo/conditioner that have ever worked for me, so I figured this might be helpful to anyone else who has had to deal with dandruff… I have been this shampoo/conditioner combo for a couple months and, within a couple weeks, noticed I wasn’t scratching my scalp as often. Then today, I did a dandruff check, wherein I rapidly scratched my scalp for 5-10 seconds while hovering over my black tabletop…gross, I know, but I was curious as to how many flakes would fall out. Whereas before using this combo, I could quickly scratch my for half a second and have a ton of flakes fall out onto my black clothing. Today, only 1 or 2 tiny flakes fell out. Idk about you, but that’s results to me. So, I came here to write this! As for those reviews from people saying this dried out their hair, note I try to only shampoo my hair once or twice per week MAX. I haven’t noticed that my hair has become dry with this shampoo/conditioner. I will point out that I use a leave-in conditioner once or twice a week as well.livxtine
One of the best dove products I like so far. I’m trying to find the best shampoo by Dove. So far the Argan and repair oil was stinky. Smelt like sugar cookies. This smelt like sweet cream almost like a light coconut cream scent. This really does help with a thirsty scalp to stop itching from dry winter months. I think this provides more moisture than their coconut hydration product. I’ve mild dandruff so I don’t know how this would work with someone with a medium or severe case. I do know that most dandruff shampoos need about 2 weeks to fully show results on your head and Google recommends to leave on 5 minutes so the medication can work. I agree with this because if you rinse out immediately then the medication can’t work inside your strands. Also this dandruff shampoo doesn’t make you feel your head went into a tumble land wasteland. I’ve used some dandruff shampoo that dried my hair out so bad that I had to use a deep moisture mask to save my hair. I highly recommend you try out their Soothing Moisture by their Dermascalp line. That conditioner is the best Dove conditioner I ever tried. Also Dove claims that all their products are color safe. I don’t dye my hair fun colors just black. I notice I can get by dying my hair once a month with this. But I wash my hair two times a week to further not irritate my scalp by washing my hair every other day. Also washing your hair in cold water also helps to prevent a dryer scalp. Just put your hair in an old pillowcase or t shirt then put hot water on to do body wash time. Dove is my favorite brand of shampoos. I wish all their products was sulphate free. But not everyone can afford a sulphate free dandruff shampoo or conditioner.Jill
I have struggled with dandruff for about a year now- waking up with an annoyingly itchy scalp that I just can’t stop itching. I have tried over the counter medicinal shampoos before (ones with coal) and I have to say, the smell was so bad I couldn’t even continue using those products. When I got this Dove shampoo about 3 weeks ago, my hopes were low. I have been struggling with dandruff for so long that I just didn’t see how a $5 shampoo that smells so wonderful could do the job. But let me tell you- I stand corrected. After just about 6 uses of this product- my flakes are for the most part gone. Even after just 2 uses I noticed the itching on my scalp was just about gone. If you struggle with excess sebum production on your scalp and you’re finding it difficult to part your hair due to all the flakes, give this product a try. I was not at all disappointed. I was prone to patchy red spots/lesions. Tried everything but only this works. Selenium sulfide is the main ingredient; other Selsun products with different main ingredients did not work. Must be left on for a few minutes so I begin my shower by lathering up with this and finish my shower with rinsing it out. Different things work for different people; selenium sulfide works for me.
I tried many anti-dandruff products and nothing worked for me except Selsun. The blue colour combination with mild scent is good for people like me who don't like extra smelly. I use twice weekly and I should say after 2nd week, I started to see much improvement with my hair with reduction in scalp dandruff. This is literally the only shampoo I can use on my scalp. If I don’t use it, super itchy scalp and so much dandruff us back but when im consistently using it, scalp is in amazing health. I hated the smell at first but its something im used to now and it reminds me of Irish soap. If I want to use my smell good shampoo then I do my first rinse with this shampoo (2 rinses with selsun if theres a lot if build up) and then I go in with my smell good shampoo and conditioner. After having my daughter in Dec 2020 I struggled my dandruff when I never had it in my life. It was soo bad I never wanted to have my hair down I was VERY subconscious about it. I wasn’t sure what product to use I was using other daily shampoo and was making my hair fall out like crazy and dandruff was still VERY bad! I’ve had to use this for most of my life due to hereditary dry scalp, and sensitive scalp. I’ve used many other medicated shampoos, but nothing has worked as well as this one. The scent is very strong, but works great to keep my scalp healthy and it doesn’t irritate it. Fortunately, I’m able to use any conditioner of my choice, for the most part. I received the Oribe Serene Scalp Balancing Shampoo. I was excited and anxious to give this a try. The product’s packaging is simple but classy. The shampoo is a white color and has a light floral fragrance. I have naturally wavy hair and my scalp can sometimes be dry. I tried the Oribe scalp balancing conditioner but wasn’t in love. I don’t think it’s a bad product, but it wasn’t for me. It didn’t provide results like I hoped for. I also noticed I was starting to lose hair in the shower which isn’t normal. I received this shampoo complimentary of influenster. This shampoo has a thick consistency and gives a luxurious lather. I love the way this smells, so fresh and spa like. When I received this product, I was actually dealing with a very dry and flaky scalp, very annoying. Since I've used this product along with the conditioner, I've noticed my scalp has been much more moisturized. It's definitely helped with the dry scalp in that sense, but it hasn't quite taken away the dandruff. I can part my hair a day before wash day and I can see a bit of dandruff. I will say it's definitely not flaky anymore though and it's not as noticeable. I just expected it to remove more of the dandruff over time since salicylic acid is highlighted as one of the ingredients, but instead it just moisturized my scalp enough so my dandruff isn't as noticable. Would I buy this after I finish the bottle? Honestly, it's just okay for me. If this and conditioner completely resolved my dandruff issue, then yeah I'd purchase this whenever I experienced dandruff problems because I don't deal with dandruff all the time, just once in a while and mainly during dry weather. I have untreated 2a/b hair that is rarely heat styled. I do have thyroid disease which can cause it to frizz, but I have an excellent stylist. My scalp tends to get oily if I use the wrong cleansers or conditioners. Pros: I didn't have a problem with oiliness after 3 days, the shampoo does not seem to have a scent, it's very think and concentrated, and has a decent lather (definitely not a clarifying shampoo, however). Cons: My hair doesn't feel quite as clean as I'd like. I washed twice, but it had a sort of coated feel, almost thicker. When dry my hair feels soft and smooth and even silky, but it's definitely not as bouncy. I did not notice a difference with scalp itchiness or dandruff. Verdict: It's just ok. The Body Shop Fuji Green Tea Shampoo conditioner dup is perfect for summer and humid weather but i will suggest it not to use in winter unless you have oily scalp or oily hair. I have normal hair and normal scalp which tends to get dry in winters and this duo alone is not enough. So I use this duo alternatively with my moisturizing shampoo-conditioner that time. Also The body shop does mention that this is for normal hair. Both shampoo and conditioner are free from silicons and dyes but Shampoo does contain SLS.I love using it. The only reason I can’t give this 5-stars is the scent. It reminds me too much of my mother so it’s not a selling point for me. Normally my hair is hard to please because of how fine it is but pretty normal otherwise. Most products are geared towards such specific things but even so I have a lot of trouble finding good fits for my hair. After reading the amazing reviews on this shampoo I thought I’d give it a try. I Don’t usually spend a lot of money on shampoos however I was hopeful it would clear up my scalp issues so thought I would treat myself. I’ve now been using the shampoo for a few weeks and still have half a bottle left. However, I have just gone to Tesco and bought a £2 bottle as I cannot use it any longer. The shampoo absolutely STINKS of paint striper. When first applying it I was actually expecting to look in the mirror and have no hair left as the smell was so strong and it was burning my scalp. I then washed it off and my face stung for an hour or so after. I thought I’d give it a chance and continue using it and thought it might settle and start working but my scalp and face continued to sting when using it. Okay, so this stuff is AMAZING! I suffer from scalp psoriasis which has become much worse over the last 12 months. Over the years I have tried a million different products and brands and nothing has managed to tick all the boxes…until now! Not only is my colour and keratin treatment totally safe, I could feel and see the difference after the very first wash. And to top it off, my hair is the softest I think it's ever been. The shampoo does have a slight medicated smell but I can totally forgive that when it works so well, plus it doesn't linger after using conditioner. Pleasantly surprised at how little I have to use each wash – and I have a lot of hair – so even although it is a small bottle I expect it to last for about a month. I have been using Zincplex for a couple of years and find it works very well for itchy scalp and clears any sores that may result from scratching. It may cost more than a lot of other products, but one bottle last for ages, 6 months or even more, depending on hair length. I use about what would cover a 5 cent and that amount lathers up all my hair. I leave it on for around 20 minutes, then rinse and apply the conditioner, which also only needs about the same amount as the shampoo. The conditioner is really cooling, like a minty smell and is lovely. This product leaves my hair feeling lovely and soft and a natural shine. I highly recommend this product, after trying many others that never helped my itchy scalp. After doing some research, I found this Zincplex and unfortunately I can't find anywhere in Australia that sells it,so I have to get it sent from USA, but the postage is free and the product is worth waiting for. I have to say this shampoo is just amazing. I have been suffering scalp psoriasis for more than 10 years (43,F) and in the last few years it has spread to at least 60% of my scalp. I have tried plenty of shampoos (natural and medicated) and managed my diet and taken oral supplements and none of them have given such a quick result. I have only been using it 6 times in the three weeks (alternating wash with a gentle shampoo) and it has given me such a relief not to have itchy scalp all the time. I would suggest that once you wash your hair, take care to put a heavy duty conditioner (only on the hair strands not scalp) as the shampoo feels drying. Its a small price to pay for clear scalp. FYI, i am also taking evening primrose oil (which i started at the same time) so this may also be a factor. The shampoo doesn't smell as bad as i thought it would. My child has issues with an itchy scalp, and after doing my research, I decided this was the better product to buy her. Her hair is long and the most beautiful blonde, and I was helping comb her hair after using this and I realized her hair had turned a browny yellow brassy color. I immediately grabbed my bottle of purple shampoo and luckily got her blonde again. Unfortunately I don't want to use this again on her hair. A very good NON-Hormonal (!) therapeutic shampoo specifically when you have a redness, dandruff, seborrhea, different types of skin allergy – red, itchy rash that can include small blisters or bumps on your head. In my case it is a food allergy and I use T-Gel several times a week to make my head free of allergic skin conditions. Sometimes I use the shampoo every day when its necessary, especially in case of eating food allergens – chocolate, coffee, red color food and citrus fruit. It works perfect for me. I have a mild but chronic case of Malassezia on my scalp that I just can't seem to get rid of. It causes dandruff, tingling and itchiness. Happily, I have managed to get dandruff under control for the most part, but the itchiness and tingling in two small areas of my scalp just won't seem to go away. This shampoo with miconazole is not only preventing dandruff from coming back, but also I can really tell that this shampoo is effective when it comes to itching and tingling. As soon as I use this shampoo, the itching and tingling is gone and stays gone for at least a day or two. If I shampoo every day the itchiness and tingling stay completely gone. Sometimes I will skip a day between shampoos and toward the end of day two I can feel it start to come back, so the lesson I've learned is not to skip a day. This stuff works! I will add that I rub the shampoo into my hair and scalp at the beginning of my shower, then let it sit as long as possible while I shave my legs, exfoliate my skin, etc. The longer I leave it on, the better it seems to work. Overall this shampoo works very well to stop dandruff, itching, and tingling, and although the scent isn't my favorite, it rinses out completely. This shampoo leaves my hair soft, clean, and shiny. I never tried other shampoos but my hair stylist recommanded that one…. Well it's amazing! I have severe dandruff… like a full on 2nd layer of skin over my scalp. It was very apparent. After just a week of using it, it was completely gone. You do have to use it max every 2-3 days or it might come back (did for me), but I think its normal. I get dry scalp every so often. But the last year or so it’s got really bad. So I decided to buy a good shampoo for relief from itching. Omg this is by far the worst shampoo I’ve ever used. I've been using this for about a year now, and so far it's done well in every season. I have long fine hair, and it doesn't weigh it down or dry it out. I do use Jack Blacks hair and scalp conditioner (the green bottle) with it, after reading reviews of other people with fine hair using it, so that could also be why it doesn't dry out my hair. I find I can go one extra day without the need to wash my hair due to dandruff with this. Before I tried most brands and none worked, or would only temporarily keep dandruff away for 2 days max, or weigh down my hair. So relieved to find this. I do keep it on for the full few minutes as recommended, and do a thorough lather in sections so every bit of my scalp gets this shampoo. When I have to rush I find it doesn't work as well, so be sure to keep it on for 2+ minutes!Jess
Since I don't have dandruff (and have never indicated that I do) I was a little surprised to get this shampoo to review. I've used Biolage products before, though, so I figured it would probably be decent. The shampoo is VERY foamy. Usually, I stick to sulfate-free shampoo to preserve my brightly colored hair, so I am NOT used to that much lather! And of course, the introduction of sulfates means it did help to fade my hair quite a bit. (I chose to use this as an opportunity to do a shade change.) My dry scalp is happy and doesn't feel "tight" after washing. The fragrance is powerful but pleasant; I enjoy a scented shower. I don't know that I'd ever purchase this, because I do not have dandruff and because of the sulfites.catherine.o
I enjoyed this shampoo and after using it for several weeks, I think it's good at being a keeping the dandruff at bay. I've struggled with an oily, flaky scalp for years and this has made a huge difference. I generally try to wash my hair every other day to maintain a decent look (wfh life) but depending on life, it can get stretched to two. If it goes to a third, it would be because I am positive I'm not going to be seen in public. With this shampoo, I could probably throw my hair on a ponytail feel okay on public, it's thay effective at keeping the oil and dandruff at bay. The shampoo itself is white, not too thick or thin, and feels slightly refreshing with the mint. It lathers well and helps my hair feel clean without being stripped. I have been using this shampoo for at least three months now and it has cleared up 90% of my dry flaky scalp. I have tried so many dandruff treatments, from drugstore to luxury, and none of them worked. This product actually hydrates my scalp and hair instead of drying it out. And it smells good! I agree with other reviewers that it is a little hard to squeeze out of the bottle, but I don't mind because it lathers nicely. When I first started using this product I used it in combination with FAB's scalp serum. Now I use the shampoo every time I wash (every ~3 days) but only use the serum once a week or every other week. Sulfate free holy grail dandruff shampoo for me. It is impossibly hard to find dandruff shampoo that's truly sulfate free, and this lathers so nicely, you only need a bit so it lasts forever. I keep this bottle upsidedown for easier dispensing, not the easiest bottle to squeeze. Personally I adore the scent but it's so hard to describe, and I understand why someone may not like it. It's slightly minty, but not in a peppermint or spearmint way. So far I've only used it once but am really impressed. My nasty swamp scalp hasn't felt this clean in years. My flat hair has volume and the lengths are lightly moisturized. moisturized. I used the scalp revival exfoliator in the jar years ago but didn't care for it. I like the no added fragrances or silicones because I have low porosity strands and extremely sensitive skin. My face did not react when it got all over me washing it off which is rare. If I feel it becomes less effective, I will just follow it up with a coal tar shampoo (yeah I know, the dreaded coal tar) for more sticking power on the dermal cells. Coal tar works best when the stuff that has already flaked off is removed. You have to let this shampoo marinate on your head a few minutes under a shower cap or else it doesn't really get in there. It smells like tea tree oil (not overpowering) right out of the bottle but I didn't notice the smell sticking around on my hair.smes
This shampoo has a pretty coal color with iridescence to it. The shampoo others really well so, you really don't need much when you're using it. It has a distinct tea tree fragrance that it's too overpowering. The rich lather really helps lift the roost do the hair and allow you to get the shampoo close to the scalp. It really helps remove flakiness and treat dry patches on the scalp. It's a very soothing formula and it really helps settle any itchiness. The formula is hydrating and while it cleanses the hair really well, it isn't stripping to the hair. I color treated hair and it doesn't remove my hair color. This formula definitely eliminated my dandruff issue and prevents my scalp from feeling itchy before my next hair wash day. The charcoal really helps detox the scalp from use of hair products and build up. I'm really impressed with this formula and it's one I highly recommend!
So let me start by saying, I am absolutely obsessed with their entire Scalp Repair line. And seeing this come out, I was so excited to complete my set. My scalp gets dry, flaky, and unbalanced especially during the winter and I’ve never found a shampoo that exfoliated without drying me out more. The ingredients are super powerful with BHA to unclog pores, lactic acid to gently exfoliate, and charcoal to detoxify. It doesn’t strip your hair of your natural oils, but rather help gently balance your scalp to aid in overall health. I’m really impressed by the well thought out formula. & it’s the perfect thing to incorporate a few times weekly if you struggle with dryness, irritation, and dandruff.
