Best Fans For Peloton Bike (2024 Update)

One of the main complaints we get when we exercise using an indoor trainer is the problem of overheating. When we overheat, we sweat bucket loads, we feel terrible and the result is significantly poorer performances; I am convinced this is the main reason we dread the prospect of the indoor winter training months. To give you some context of why we overheat, when riding outdoors at say 15mph on the hoods, the cooling airflow you get is about 9,000 cubic feet per minute (CFM), whereas the average fan that people use in their indoor setups will blast you at a measly few hundred. For me, I have been using a tower fan, and even at (a generous) 1300 CFM, was not keeping me cool, resulting in pools of sweat on the floor, my clothes and body soaked and the feeling of being totally drained after just a modest workout. Something had to change. Enter WAHOO’s Kickr Headwind, the cyclists’ first “smart fan”, marketed as having a highly directional airflow and fan speed controlled by either your heart rate, your virtual speed or manually. At first glance, and with a price tag of £199.99 it seems an expensive gadget. I decided to find out if it lived up to its marketing hype. Unboxing the Headwind was simple enough, and weighing 12lbs was easy to handle. It is designed to sit on the floor, pointing upwards towards you, but has foldable legs at the back that level the fan if you want put it onto a table in front of you. Connecting the Headwind to my existing setup was the next task. I had read in the blurb that if you want to use your heart rate monitor to control the Headwind, this is done by pairing it via Bluetooth the WAHOO Fitness App (IOS and Android). If you want to control it by virtual speed it uses either ANT+ or Bluetooth to pair it to your smart trainer. Having downloaded the WAHOO Fitness App and placed the WAHOO Tickr on my chest, it connected without, well, missing a heartbeat. It also connected to my TACX Neo smart trainer in case I wanted to control the fan using virtual speed. As an aside, I am not sure why I would want to do that because I need the fan to be blasting when struggling slowly up hills not when speeding down descents, so this seems like a redundant feature. A little about the WAHOO Fitness App. It found and paired to my heart rate monitor and the Headwind quickly and intuitively. I was then able to set both the minimum heart rate at which the fan would kick in, and maximum heart rate where the fan would be going at 100%, plus the several heart rate zones in between (the fan speed follows your heart rate using 6 levels). The App also allows you to record your workout should you wish to do so. I was very pleased when the Headwind paired first time without drama to the heart rate monitor, and thought that box was ticked. However, like most cyclists, I use online training Apps such as Zwift, Sufferfest and TrainerRoad, etc. On my setup, these run on a MacBook Air laptop, and so the next step was to pair the WAHOO’s Tickr heart rate monitor to the laptop via Bluetooth. I kicked the Zwift App into life, and as usual it started searching for the TACX, the heart rate monitor and other sensors. All good except for the WAHOO Tickr heart rate monitor. As a test, I unpaired the Tickr heart rate monitor from the Headwind and bingo, Zwift paired with the Tickr on the laptop. Disaster! The Tickr will not pair with both the Headwind and the laptop at the same time. For a moment I thought I had bought a very expensive fan that would not be able to fulfil its purpose in being, smart. Thankfully I found two solutions. The first one. I plugged in a Suuto ANT+ USB Stick (costs about £23 online) to the laptop so that we would switch from Bluetooth to ANT+. Bingo, it connected to the WAHOO Tickr and the Headwind. We were in business. The second solution was to use an iPad installed with both Zwift and WAHOO Fitness Apps. Because the Apps were on the same device this worked using Bluetooth. I have a large flat screen TV that is normally connected to the laptop. Connecting the iPad to my flat screen TV simply needed a Digital AV Adaptor (approx £50 online). An alternative would be to connect via an Apple TV, but in practise I have found that this introduces a little latency, making the screen a bit “jumpy”. So what was my experience of using it? When you pair the Headwind to your heart rate monitor the fan makes a low hum, but not enough to be annoying. I started my workout and soon my heart rate increased. The fan speed followed my increasing heart rate with an increase in speed, I pushed on and the Headwind responded giving me a steady stream of cool air. As I moved towards my maximum heart rate the stream became a satisfying blast (rated as 30mph). I felt cool and satisfyingly, no steady drip of sweat onto the bike and the floor. So all good! In terms of the directional airflow, you need to ensure that you point it straight at you. The airflow is deliberately narrow to give you maximum cooling affect, such that CycleForFitness

This is a fan. A really expensive and overpriced fan. It’s a great fan though and maybe one of, if not the best fan for indoor training. I really like it. It’s small so takes up so little space, it’s powerful and quiet. It works well but could have some improvements. In fact I’m surprised it’s not better for the price. However if you can afford it or just pretend it was $100 cheaper than you paid, it is a very cool fan and I recommend it and don’t regret buying it. The speed settling makes no sense to me. The HR setting is great to warm up but there’s a difference between 100HR when your starting and cold and 100HR when you’re resting after an interval and still need to cool down but the fan turns off. The front should be adjustable so you can aim the fins to point up or down. This is its biggest flaw. I could image you’d need to prop it up in some situations. Wahoo developers, if you read this pls add adjustable airflow direction in v2. All in all it’s prob the best fan you can get!Mark H.

Purchased the Headwind fan after purchasing the Heart rate monitor and the Cadence and Speed sensors. The fan itself works and pairs seamlessly and is extremely effective in what it is supposed to do, that is, keep you cool. It is very well made with s good length of electrical cable and plug. I found it a tad expensive but as they say “You pays your money- You takes your choice” I t could be made even better by the simple addition of the fan head rocking backwards and forwards to give a greater coverage of air flow, perhaps that is something that Wahoo may do in the future. Would I purchase this item again in the future, the simple answer is yes because it does what it says it will do and as I have stated it’s well made. The customer service I have had from Wahoo is really second to non and delivery is extremely quick. Overall a very good product.Brian O.

Despite the Vornado moniker on this fan, it can't push a milliliter of air a simple centimeter, let alone a few inches. If you buy this expect to have to set it up 1 inch from your location, other wise it's a worthless fan.jware

I had been putting off buying a fan for my desk at work as a lot of the ones I'd seen were ugly. But the summer heat finally got to me so I started looking online for a small fan that would not break the bank and did not take up too much space. I came across this little gem and thought it looked sleek and matched the modern look of our office. I especially liked the clamp idea since desk space is a premium and I didn't want anything with a large footprint. When I took this out of the box, first thing I noticed was the weight. It's not heavy, but heavier than a cheap, plastic fan. A colleague next to me said that it looked fancy and inquired about it. After a few attempts, I realized not only was I able to clamp this to my desk (as it if had a base), but also to my cubicle wall sideways and that's exactly what I did. I like how it has 3 speeds and usually I have it on the lowest speed which is pretty quiet and I am able to take phone calls with it on, but it has enough of a breeze that I am not overheating. Not sure why Vornado would release such a poor quality product. To remotely get a decent fan intensity going, you have to use the highest setting, and the highest setting is incredibly loud for the amount of air it's pumping out. I would rather fashion a paper fan and just fan myself down manually than to use this useless crap. It's also over $24 retail which is astrocious. Before installing these fans The temperature of my GPU ( EVGA 3080) while gaming at ultra 4K would reach 80-83° C. I installed these Bad boys on the roof Of my case to push the air out. If you are a little bit tech savvy, you can make the RGB portion of this fan work without needing to purchase the pricey Corsair hub, if you'd rather not have to mess around with wires then look for another option. This LED thing can get quite addictive for the bored PC builder working from home. I recently built new desktops for myself and my son and used Fractal Design cases for both (a Define 6 and a 7). Mine was an Intel build and my son's an AMD. Both have Asus mobos with Corsair AIO LED cooling. Corsair have an Asus plugin to control the motherboard lighting and GPU lighting if you have an ASUS GPU card. The Corsair iCUE software controls everything really well, including these fans, of which we now have about 6 or 7 between us. When they replaced the standard Fractal fans, which were already quiet, these were quieter and I can barely hear anything from my son's PC when it is on. I upgraded his GPU so I could have his Asus 2070S, but his new AMD GPU is an MSI, so the LED on that is not in sync with the fans, mobo and cooler. Mine is though 😉 I think we have 5 or 6 140mm fans and 1 120mm one and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them for both quietness and appearance. You may need the hub and a USB header on your motherboard if you are going to use a few of these in sync.Unbiased Reviewer

This is my first Corsair RGB fan. Unfortunately, not so good for me. I was hoping to use it with my ASUS ARGB header, and I still will. I just have had to purchase a conversion able as I don't own nor intend to own the Corsair FAN/RGB controller. This closed eco system is a rip off really. Great if you intend to go all our Corsair but I wish to mix and match various components that Corsair don't support, such as my Team Group memory and an UpHere GPU support with ARGB. Now I am moving to CoolMaster MF Halo fans. They work as good, if not better then these Corsair fans. They even support ARGB Gen 2, so now the Corsair eco system has no RGB advantage.Patrick P.

Great fans all around. Can't beat the pressure they bring while remaining relatively quiet. So many ways to configure the RGB with Corsair's ICUE software. Only issue that I had was shipping. I have now owned three of these. It is a small size and I really liked the flexible fan design. I had two in my bedroom: one near the head of my bed and one opposite the bed. These really helped with overall airflow and keeping me comfortable in my room. In my new apartment, I put one in our bathroom because it is old and there is no fan. It is so important to keep moist air moving rather than settling so we kept the bathroom fan on all the time. Sadly, the fan started squeaking really loudly. We tried to fix it but could not prevent the noise. So I replaced that with a new one and after 6 months of use, it also sounds horrible. Basically, its a good fan if you don't plan to have it on frequently.valueshopper257

I have an ML140 in my HTPC pushing out on a 140mm radiator, exhausting vertically, out the back. It seems to be mostly silent at all but the highest speeds. So when I bought these, I expected the same. I don't know if they just don't like pulling up and out, but I have them mounted in a pull configuration on my main rig, exhausting from a top mounted radiator to the outside, and they are very noisy about it. 1500 RPM and above will cause a loud and persistent droning noise, with lots of mechanical overtone like, well… a drone. If you lower those RPMs to 800 or 900, they still have a low and fluctuating mechanical noise to them. The reason they're so annoying is because it's a harsh noise that seems to go ever so slightly louder and quieter and random milliseconds, making them impossible to get used to. After 2 days I've grown exceedingly annoyed with them, instead of tuning them out like most fans. I will be returning them. Since I have an example that speaks otherwise for a vertically mounted option, my only conclusion is that the orientation/usage is what's causing all the noise, so stay away from these if you will be using a similar horizontal pull configuration.Sythrix

I bought this pack (plus a third, separate fan of the same model) to replace the two Fractal fans that came with my Meshify 2 XL case. Somehow, despite there being an extra fan, they are quieter! The only downside is that the cables aren't quite long enough to reach my enormous case's built-in fan hub, so I've had to connect them directly to the motherboard. If the cables were slightly longer, it'd be perfect. If your case isn't so mind-bogglingly huge, though, you'll probably be alright – they were literally just a few centimetres too short. The RGB hub(s) come pre-attached with 3M sticky pads, so you can secure them wherever you want. The RGB is gorgeous, and they cool my system. Not sure what else to say!Enigma85

This little machine is amazing. Love that is a desk fan with a remote. I have tower fans with remotes and the convenience is great on this guy. I have it on my night stand and now instead of having to roll all the way over and hang on the side of the bed I can just hit the remote. Noise level is not like desk fans I'm used to. So happy with my Rowenta Turbo fan! It has such great features that I have never had in a fan before. I love having the remote. It's so nice for night time when you are across the room and don't have to get up to make changes to the fan speed. It also has a great night feature. The fan is so quiet it will rotate side to side and you don't even hear it moving. This fan is in my bedroom that is about 12' by 12' and I feel like it moves the air well without having such a huge presence in the room. It's easy to open for blade cleaning as well. I do have AC but my room still gets warm from the direct sunlight so it blows the cool air around just how I would of expected. I may of paid a little more for this fan but it was definitely worth it. I love having the remote which I think is the best feature.shellzup

I love this fan so much I bought 2 of them. The assembly instructions/pictures were basic but understandable. I know some people commented the instructions were terrible but I honestly did not have a problem. If you look, the parts themselves even have instructional words or arrows on them. I found it was easy to assemble. I appreciated another reviewer’s warning: be careful not to loosen the screw that holds the black band (when you put the 2 metal grills together) around the metal grill too much, if screw comes out it can be frustratingly hard to get back together so I took their advice and loosened the screw just enough to get the job done; so no problem there. Like most people I have been searching for a quiet and functional fan. How hard can it be, right? I have purchased a number of fans that promised quiet operation and I have been continually disappointed until purchasing this fan. I was pleasantly surprised that this fan is as quiet and functional as advertised. So far the remote works perfectly for both fans. I didn’t think I would use the remote but it has actually been a nice feature. I find there are enough variable speed options for me. One other reviewer said the fan was functional but ugly. I live in Louisiana and our area was recently devastated by Hurricane Laura. I bought two of the large 10 inch fans and two of these small 5 inch fans when we were without power as it was extremely hot. I was extremely happy with them. I ordered them Saturday and got them by Monday or Tuesday. My aunt has older models of the O2 Cool brand (though these are technically the brand TEVA–did these brands merge?) that she has picked up from garage sales and these are lighter and use two fewer D cell batteries: only four. Although you'll probably reach for the bigger 10 inch size fans, these are a little more portable and you can carry them with you easier if you are trying to do something in the house and still want to bring the fan with you. I live in Florida and I was right in the middle of Hurricane Ian. I ordered this battery operated fan in order to have some air because I knew I would lose electricity, which I did. I replaced two small dehumidifiers in my basement with one, larger commercial unit and wanted a fan that I could run 24/7 to circulate the dryer air in the 2000 sq. ft. space. Was disappointed when I opened the box. It looked so small compared to the spec dimensions. But plugged it in and set the speed at 1/2. Amazing, I could feel the moving air 25 feet infront of the unit. It does a FANtastic job. At half speed it's totally quiet. Kind of sad that it's in the basement because it's a really attractive unit. But I didn't buy it for it's beauty. I’ve had this fan for almost a month now and it’s great for circulating air in an entire room. You can definitely feel the air coming from somewhere even though the fan isn’t directly blowing on you. The speeds of the fan are good cause with it being lower and on you, it’s quiet enough to where you can be on the phone or in a call and the fan not be in your background. Also the max speed is very powerful but also the loudest so it will be in your background then. Overall great fan but I have to lookup some things to clean it cause cotton swabs does the trick but it’s partially time consuming to do it that way.MallyMall

Much better made and quieter than the original fan fitted to the DVR, which was making a lot of noise from the bearings. Noctua fan is virtually silent. Some difficulty fitting the rubber mounts due to the original holes for the screws being smaller diameter. Comfort Zone 6-Inch Clip Fan includes a padded clamp that has great hold, allowing placement almost anywhere, while providing stability. The head tilts up or down with the simple turn of a knob, then locks in place by tightening. It also spins all the way around, just by clicking into each position. I have used this fan every night for 4 years, and it still works. It has a few issues such as the switch can become disconnected, but that is a quick fix and as long as you are careful you wont have that issue in the first place. I have used other fans, but none have gained my respect like the CZ6Z. Plus, its easy to repair and clean (it technically doesn’t work without being jumpstarted now, but for a fan that has run for 10,000+ hours, I count that as a success, plus it still functions once i get it started).Sawyer

Bought this little fan to move some air around the bedroom at night. Was looking for one with a clip so I can clip it to the headboard. Changing from the base to the clip is very easy. Clip is great – strong enough to hold it up without falling down. Fan has 2 settings – low and high. The low setting is very quiet and still is strong enough to move the air. High setting is also great – slightly hums but nothing that is too loud – great air movement on the high setting. The base of the unit is also good although plastic – it's sturdy enough to hold it. Great little fan and am very happy with it. Would recommend for smaller spaces because of the size of it but can still move the air at a decent rate. Very impressed.SKaye

Not something I am proud of, but I bought this fan because I underestimated the size of a RTX3080. The only place I could mount my AIO was in front of my case. Due to the enormous size of the 3080 I was left with a dilemma, do I take apart everything and get a new case, a different GPU (right…), or do I remove one of the 120mm fans? Instead of just removing the fan I decided to replace it with a smaller one; the Noctua 80mm. Got some small zip ties, threaded them through the screw holes on both the fan and radiator, tightened until they were flush, and boom, we are good. These are quieter and move more air than the stock ones did when they were new. I now have 3 sizes of High performance Noctua fans, 2 80mm, 1 120mm, and 2 140mm. They all are great performers. The fans are quiet when in low speeds, much louder when in higher speeds. I just set fan curves that are silent when in low loads to the machine, and ramp up when things start warming up. Running them all in a home server machine that does a lot of different jobs including Folding@Home. Keeps the components temps in line very well, with all air cooling so maintenance is minimal.Ben S.

I was concerned when I bought this fan, figuring I would end up returning it because it wouldn't be strong enough, plus it runs on batteries. Boy was I wrong. I clipped it to my walkthrough door on my horse trailer to help move cool air from the living quarters to the horse area that I use for extra space when not hauling horses. It is very strong, much better than the more expensive fan I bought from Walmart. Also used it to keep flies off my grill while cooking. Very happy with this little fan. I just got my new little fan and one of the first things I wanted to do was try it out to see how it lasts. I put an old set of rechargeable AA batteries and turned it on the high setting. It was probably a good five hours that it blew strong, a several more that it continued to blow at a slightly lower power. The lower setting would undoubtedly last longer. I thought this was very good. Rechargeable batteries never last as long as a good quality single use battery (but I can use them many more times). It also has pretty decent power for such a small fan at this price. I would definitely recommend this fan. I chose this fan because of the AA batteries and the fact that I can use rechargeables or single use if needed. I felt this was more practical for me than a unit that is itself rechargeable since I can have as much back up power (batteries) available as I want if I am unable to freshly recharge. I can use this anywhere!Kris

This fan is garbage. it needs 4 AA batteries so i had to make a separate trip to get those. Turned it on and it barely blows at all. i bought it for my plants and after less than 24 hours it stopped working completely.Darcy

We use this for outside of our camper and it works great even in 95 degree weather. It is light and easy to carry and well made. It offers different speeds to accommodate heat level. Would by it again.Mags

I purchased two of the NF-P12 fans for my SAMA IM01 case. One is mounted right in front of the NH-L12. The other is at the bottom pulling cool air in for the 2060. The NF-P12’s keep the system cool while gaming. These fans are great. I would recommend.Jason H

I bought 2 of these as my very first Noctua investment. I was not impressed. The description states "Pressure-optimized Nine-Blade Design Specifically developed for high-impedance applications such as CPU coolers, water-cooling radiators or cases with tight fan grills, the NF-P12 provides superior pressure and airflow performance." It does not do this. On a push/pull setup for my evo 212 cooler, the 2 noctua fans do not move any air through the cooler unless they are both on 80% or more which make them very audible. The 2 year old fan that came with my old $25 case is quieter and pushes more air than these $30 fans, effectively keeping my cpu a few degrees cooler at idle. i did not test the noctuas under a load. I will consider giving noctua a second chance in the future but not any time soon. My case is much quieter without these fans and i do not see a difference in temperature or performance.Anonymous

Both work great! Love the RGB customization. I used these as my front fans and used two 120mm for my top and back exhaust fans. Air circulation is great, keeps things cool. Can't go wrong with Corsair.ElrondsEyebrows

Before installing these fans The temperature of my GPU ( EVGA 3080) while gaming at ultra 4K would reach 80-83° C. I installed these Bad boys on the roof Of my case to push the air out. Now I barely get 65°C.LebForces

If you are a little bit tech savvy, you can make the RGB portion of this fan work without needing to purchase the pricey Corsair hub, if you'd rather not have to mess around with wires then look for another option. Overall I'm very pleased with the performance of this fan, a little bit of extra work was well worthwhile in my case.Al L.

Not something I am proud of, but I bought this fan because I underestimated the size of a RTX3080. The only place I could mount my AIO was in front of my case. Due to the enormous size of the 3080 I was left with a dilemma, do I take apart everything and get a new case, a different GPU (right…), or do I remove one of the 120mm fans? Instead of just removing the fan I decided to replace it with a smaller one; the Noctua 80mm. Got some small zip ties, threaded them through the screw holes on both the fan and radiator, tightened until they were flush, and boom, we are good. This is the nicest fan I have used in any of my computer builds. I used it as a case fan in the back of a Lian Li pc-06sx. I comes with 3 choices of voltage to plug into the power supply allowing you to choose the 3 speeds for the fan. Silent in all but the fastest setting and even then just a slight whisper at 1 foot away. I have the 140mm mdl BL065 non PWMGregory

I've had this fan for five minutes, tested the interchangeable mounting clips; Tried to remove one by gently pushing in the release clip, and the clip immediately snapped. Now I have to glue one of the corners on. How can you have interchangeable bits like that if they can't even hold up to a single change????Anthony K.
