I used to LOVE this edge control gel as it provided a firm hold for my edges with no flaking or heaviness. Prior to changing the formula, it was also the only edge control gel on the market that truly provided a firm and lasting hold for my edges. Unfortunately, since the formula has changed, I can no longer use this edge gel because it provides no control for my edges, and it leaves my hair feeling greasy. Whereas, I could previously go all day with my edges laid, now I can’t even go an hour with this new formula. As soon as I dipped my finger in this new formula, I could tell that it didn’t have the same level of tackiness as did the old formula. This new formula is no different than the other brands of edge control currently in the market, and is now useless to me. Please bring back the old formula!!Denly
My hair like many others is kind of sensitive to different products and chemicals. I knew Olive Oil products were good I’ve used them all though I did try others before it. I recently got a hair cut to bring in the new year something different. I wanted something to just kinda keep my edges maintained and slicked down but not make them hard or flakey and possibly dry. I purchased this item from the reviews I read about the hold it gave to edges. I was looking for something for my locs that would not make my hair brittle, white, etc. I dont find this product to produce those affects, but it does not hold my edges. I don't make it out the door in the morning without them rising, and I have soft fine hair. I've tried to add water first, then the product. No water, and just the product, adding a wrap for a few minutes while I dress without great results for the entire day. I like the smell of it however, that's a plus. This is one of the best edge control gels I've used. It holds hair in place all day even on hot days. Ive noticed that a couple of people have had problems with the hold, try this. As with all edge gels the hold is better if you have clean hair, like no leave in conditioner, gel or anything especially around your edges. I really really wanted an edge control product that was easy to use and quick. This product has a thicker and less "wet" consistency than gel but a bit softer than other pomades I have used. The trick is to not use too much or you will end.up with a white cast when it dries. A small amount can go a long way so be careful! I love using this with my twists and bantu knot styles. I sometimes will spray Got 2 B Glued spray in conjunction with this for extra hold, but again, I try to be careful with the amount to avoid the white cast. I have not been successful yet since I'm a little too excited about sculpting my edges, but I'll get it right. I recommend this product as I've used a few edge control products and this one seems to have a balance between moisture and hold. It doesn't leave your edges rock hard, they will likely move out of place when you're sleeping unless you tie a scarf on them. I never have to worry that it will do any damage.vonya.b
The packaging is nice and plenty comes into the container since you don’t have to apply that much to hair. I dabbed my index finger and spread it through baby hairs along with any hairs I wanted to lay flat. I went hours with the product on my head, sweating a whole lot, and my hair still held without feeling heavy, greasy, or gelled down. My hair felt pretty natural and I loved the smell. The sweet smell stayed with me all day. I’m very satisfied with this product. As you can tell with my photo, I did not gel the ponytail itself to show the difference. I honestly have fallen in love with this product! I am a 3b – 3c curl type and being "in between" makes it tricky to find the exact curling products that work for textured hair. I really really wanted an edge control product that was easy to use and quick. This product has a thicker and less "wet" consistency than gel but a bit softer than other pomades I have used. The trick is to not use too much or you will end.up with a white cast when it dries. A small amount can go a long way so be careful! I love using this with my twists and bantu knot styles. I sometimes will spray Got 2 B Glued spray in conjunction with this for extra hold, but again, I try to be careful with the amount to avoid the white cast. I have not been successful yet since I'm a little too excited about sculpting my edges, but I'll get it right. I recommend this product as I've used a few edge control products and this one seems to have a balance between moisture and hold. It doesn't leave your edges rock hard, they will likely move out of place when you're sleeping unless you tie a scarf on them. I never have to worry that it will do any damage.vonya.b
The packaging is nice and plenty comes into the container since you don’t have to apply that much to hair. I dabbed my index finger and spread it through baby hairs along with any hairs I wanted to lay flat. I went hours with the product on my head, sweating a whole lot, and my hair still held without feeling heavy, greasy, or gelled down. My hair felt pretty natural and I loved the smell. The sweet smell stayed with me all day. I’m very satisfied with this product. As you can tell with my photo, I did not gel the ponytail itself to show the difference. There was no frizz after using this product to my top hairs by my forehead. Clearly the hairs without the product had frizz. This product did its job wonderfully! I honestly have fallen in love with this product! I am a 3b – 3c curl type and being "in between" makes it tricky to find the exact curling products that work for textured hair. I often have a lot of fly-aways after straightening my hair, and so I thought this would be the perfect product to tame them. I hate using hairspray or gel as it gets so sticky and flakey. For me, this product was okay. It kept some pieces down, while others remained pesky and kept standing up. I tried not to use too much, as it is a bit sticky. However, what I do love is that it doesn't flake or show residue after it dries. And the next day, my hair wasn't sticky where I had applied it. Don’t Shrink is a CGM approved protein gel with olive oil, shea butters, and glycerin. Flax seed really helps my hair retain its curl shape, the large jar helped me explore different styling techniques to see what works best with my hair and the price helped me feel better about re-styling failed experiment days vs conserving pricy product; which let’s face it, there’s a lot of fails in the beginning for curlies lol. I tried it out with super long hair and also with a long bob reset chop and both had consistent results. BOMB!!!! I've been on the search for an edge gel that can lay my 3C/4A edges down for more than a couple of minutes. This is literally the ONLY edge gel I've ever used where my edges were laid ALL day long without feeling too hard or dry to the point you can tell it will break-off your edges with continued use. I did my usual routine of styling my edges…than I tied a scarf over them while they were drying and waited like 10 minutes before untying the scarf. Of course…when you first use an edge gel it looks good until like an hour later. Not with this product!!! When Ebin says this is a 24 Hour Edge Tamer…they mean it. I used this product in the morning…it's almost 8pm and my edges are still laid. Plus this product doesn't leave any gross white residue…which is so disrespectful, how are you going to have bomb edges with a white cast??? Not possible. After using Rizos Curls shampoo & conditioner I use the gel BY ITSELF.. and it gives me a very good strong cast and TONS of volume. I love using this as a single styler. I have wavy 2b hair that's low porosity and have struggled to find a gel that works. I have heat damaged hair as you can see from the color on down. I’m still learning how to care for my natural curls and this product worked great. On wet hair the ginger smell is strong and the hair (damaged parts) were crunchy. My roots were nice and soft. The ginger smells leaves once the hair is dry and the crunch relaxes after a few hours.Kassg
My favorite this about this gel is how soft it makes my hair. It's very hydrating and conditioning to the hair, every time I use this my curls are very soft and bouncy. I have mixed it with several other leave in conditioners and creams, both from the same brand and from other brands, and I have found it mixes well with a few different products. It doesn't mix with everything, test it in your hands first, but I found a few good combos with this gel. It also gives my hair good shine, I really loved that. My wash n go's always lasted a few days with this gel. I wish it had a little more hold, I'd say this is like medium hold. It didn't give a strong cast, which may or may not be a good thing depending on your preference. Even without strong hold, it's still a great and dependable gel. It is a lighter gel, almost a cream gel, I like the consistency. I like the smell too, reminds me of ginger ale haha. Overall, it's a great gel with beneficial ingredients.Kathi N.
