This is my first time using this brand of lightener. I loved it! My hair feels nice and doesn't feel super damaged at all. My hair is about a level 4/5 and it lifted it to about a 9 which to me was perfect for putting on pink over it. I will stick to using this for a long time. I recently ordered 2 boxes of the GDY Lightening Kit from my local Sally store. When I opened the boxes to use them, I noticed that the kit was an older version of the product. The product & its formula have been updated since this kit (like it's been YEARS) and I feel like I was cheated by paying full price for these old old products. I have used this kit before many times and the older product does not lighten as well as the current formulas that they use. I'm a big fan of GDY's products and know that I'm not the only person that's received old products from Sally before. Really impressed with this. I bought 7 Dark Blonde after a particularly bad 'balayage' job (mostly awful white/yellow highlights) and the colour has come out exactly as it's shown on the box. I still had my natural light brown roots and this has blended really well after being on for 20 minutes. It's obviously not the colour I wanted when I set out trying to be lighter with the initial balayage attempt, but it has rescued my hair from that disaster, and at least I can leave the house again without a hat! It's in no way very dark, and as it's a semi dye it will fade and the lighter colours will come through again a bit more in time. If you're despairing about a terrible blonde dye job and want to get back to a dark blonde/lighter brown then this is for you. I did use a purple shampoo on my hair a few days before I used the dye, although I'm not sure how much difference it made to this outcome. This dye seems to have redder tones to it after application which might freak you out initially, but it settles and blends. It does give good coverage, and the blonde comes through with subtle tones, so don't use it if you want to still be mainly a light blonde colour, you will most likely be the colour on the box. If you're looking for something to just tone down yellow brassiness then I don't think this will be for you, as I think it will initially cover your blonde. As ever, it's good to do a patch test if you're not sure you'll like the final results.Anna
I have been using this brand haircolor for years, trying different shades. I recently went through chemo therapy and lost all my hair. Since it’s grown back in its come in with a lot of grey. I have naturally medium brown hair. It is in excellent condition and thought I would color it with this new formula. So many reviews state the new formula is not as good as the old, I love the new formula. No burning on application, no hot roots, more even coverage. Many reviews also stated that the sheets are much darker than reflected on the box. For this reason I purchased suede light brown. It is so dark! Thankfully I don’t mind dark hair on myself. I used to color my hair with Clairol Natural Instincts about 10 years ago and never had an issue. With a special event coming up I decided to freshen my hair up with some color. Upon reading the instructions it seemed as if the product had improved since I last used it. I bought two packages, but one bottle covered my shoulder-length hair just fine. However, after applying and rinsing out the product as instructed, I noticed that my hair didn't feel very good. Back in the day it used to leave my hair super silky and soft, like a model in a shampoo commercial. But the real horror happened after I dried my hair and realized that the color I got was NOT the color on the box! I selected #4 dark brown to get a Hersheys dark chocolate color. Instead my hair came out looking like kona coffee grounds in water (aka, almost black). It looks completely unnatural and now I'm trying to desperately get it to wash out early. I used 20 volume Ion developer with this lightener on dirty blonde hair. I personally think this dye is great, but I can think of another brand that has more staying power and is cheaper, so for that reason I can only give this 4 stars. The tone of this pink is unique to pinks I have bought previously and I think that's great when wanting some dimension! The texture is hard to describe but not its really creamy or gel like. And I think it smells like peppercorn, which doesn't bother me. I find a tube of this goes a really long way too, which is fantastic! The staying power is pretty average for your vivid pinks. I recently tried this product for the first time and I think it’s now one of my favorites! I’ve gotten TONS of compliments since I used Blue Ruin and I’ve used them all, over the years. Warning: stuff is Pravana Vivids level of stainage. RIP to a couple of ratty old towels, lol. My hair is between a level 2-3 with grays and I bleach and then highlight it to level 7-8. Pro tip is that I mix this product with a little conditioner and Olaplex 3 and then leave it in my hair for 2 hours. It really saves it from being fried. I tried to manage my expectations a little with this product, as it’s recommended for light blonde or pre-lightened hair but mine was a balayage with dark blonde/light brown. Turns out it defied my expectations and still came out as a super vibrant red! My hair is chest length and the tube had just about enough to cover nearly my whole head (my roots are dark so I avoided those) with a small amount of conditioner mixed in to stretch it a bit further. Have been dying my grey roots every 3-4 weeks for about 10 years now and nice n easy in 6N (half a box) had been my drug of choice up to now. Few formula changes later and am ready to try something different. I like that I can easily measure out what I need to use as both are liquid and mixed in a 1:1 ratio. I love that there is no overpowering odour striking as soon as mixing happens although slightly unnerving that this mixes into a plastic-like gel with no other odour?(Not sure how natural it is?) It is odd but you do get used to it, just don’t get lulled into a false sense of security and make sure you take usual precautions to clean up any spillages etc as it does stain quickly as with any other dyes. Colour-wise is about equivalent to nice n easy one and covers grey well but does seem to fade quite quickly so have just started adding a couple of capfuls of 5N to half bottle 6N when applying to roots then rest of 6N for last 5 mins on rest of hair. This is a lovely hair colouring product: easy to use and great colour results. The smell is, not unpleasant, just different. My only criticism would be that using it on my level 7/8 hair, I used 8A, there isnt enough ash in it to counteract the orange undertone that kicks up when you lighten in that mid blonde range, so it looks a bit warmer than I would have liked. Toning shampoo (blue) helps. It will probably get cooler on my second use when I retouch my roots. It looked lovely on the lighter parts of my hair though so my advice would be to use it if your hair is lighter than a level 8, but be prepared for your colour to be warmer than ash if its darker. The hair mask thats included has a, again not unpleasant, smell to it thats different, but gives lovely, shiny results. I will be using this colour product again and would recommend it.aunty_deedee
This hair colour does a great job of covering my VERY stubborn greys. And keeping them covered for a good 6 weeks. I tried a couple of others during the pandemic and once I tried this, I never went back. When salons opened, the stylist was actually pretty impressed by how healthy my hair and how “soft” the colour looked. Definitely use the quinoa mask that comes with it. So I bought this to bleach a wig that I bought. I previously bleached the wig the same day but it still wasn’t bright enough. I used three boxes and the hair was long and I didn’t leave it on for the recommended time on the instructions. This did exactly what I needed it to do. Did a great job at bleaching the hair. Color came out even, however hair was EXTREMELY dry after rinsing…… BUT that said, the toner included infused so much moisture back into my strands I was thoroughly impressed. It did relax my curl pattern slightly, however all my natural curls are still intact. I did half my hair using the bottle in the kit, which was fine, but the other half I put in a bowl and applied with a applicator brush (just because it seemed quicker and would give a more even bleach job). It seems like every time you change the style of the Box, the formula changes. I have been using natural instinct for well over 10 years and I really like it, but it's getting harder to find the right color to use. I just. I just used Light golden Brown and now my hair is the medium to dark Brown it was when I was a teenager! Normally I would just color my roots, my hair on top of my head was almost blonde because of the gray underneath. The color is Nutmeg, it’s one of the dark brown formulas. Very nourishing and easy to apply and spread through the hair. Im not used to the applicator bottle but surprisingly didn’t mind it. The smell isn’t too strong. I used almost the whole bottle, and I have thin/medium thick hair down to the middle of my back. Definitely buy two if you have long thick hair. Now, the color is darker than it said it would be. It’s borderline black or brown black, but I can tell it will fade nice. It doesn’t wash me out and I have pale skin with rosey undertones so I am thankful for that. I have been using this brand haircolor for years, trying different shades. I recently went through chemo therapy and lost all my hair. Since it’s grown back in its come in with a lot of grey. I have naturally medium brown hair. It is in excellent condition and thought I would color it with this new formula. So many reviews state the new formula is not as good as the old, I love the new formula. No burning on application, no hot roots, more even coverage. Many reviews also stated that the sheets are much darker than reflected on the box. For this reason I purchased suede light brown. It is so dark! Thankfully I don’t mind dark hair on myself. I REALLY wanted to like this product. I really want a midnight blue shade in my hair and was optimistic this was it. I did read the package insert and disclaimer about stains but figured it wouldn't be as drastically different in comparison to any other boxed dyes. WRONG. First and last time using this. My entire bathroom is blue. My face, hands, and various parts of body are purple. The amount of time to rinse it out of my hair was over 20 minutes at least and it's still did not have the water running clear. The color turnout just made the process more disappointing. The dye stain is stuck to my scalp, the blue color on my gray strands versus normal color hair is a very obvious difference(I don't get this with other brands I've used). The rest of my hair looks untouched (yes, left it in for a full hour). The best part of the experience was the intense belly laugh I got out of my husband when he saw my entire face turn purple, hence the title of my review 😉 I did get the stains off my body fairly easy with intense and repeated scrubbing cycles of soap and conditioner. My hands are still a shade of purple. I did capture a photo of how the process looked, but it'll stay in the memory bin stowed away as I'm too embarrassed to share it! I have been doing my own hair color for over 20 years, so I have plenty of experience. The color I chose, Midnight Tanzanite, is a very deep purple/black, so I prepared carefully to color while trying to minimize staining. Instead of using the bottle with nozzle tip, I transferred the color to a bowl and used a brush to apply it carefully, trying to keep it off my scalp and everything else but my hair. I followed the directions to rinse, shampoo & condition when it was time. However, the color deeply stained my scalp, sink, & shower. The color of my hair was the intense dark purple shown on the box, but so was my scalp! It took 4 more shampoos to remove the stain from my skin, and despite bleach treatments, my tub is still stained. Note: The photo I have posted was taken after removing the stain from my scalp.Lisa
I bought this product this past weekend with the intention of doing an under-color on my natural dark brown hair. My hair doesn't normally respond to box dye, but I had seen a number of youtube reviews and tutorials showing normal people (as opposed to professionals) using this on black hair. I assumed that it would work well for me. I liked the fact that it had no bleach or ammonia. I'm not allergic, but both chemicals can be very drying. The product smelled surprisingly good and was very highly pigmented. I followed all the directions, including covering whatever I could in the bathroom with plastic coverings, and NOT rinsing it out in the bathtub or shower. I rinsed mine out in the laundry room sink. The conditioner also smelled really good and did leave my hair very healthy. However, after drying and straightening my hair, I saw no color change at all. The next day I checked in the actual sunlight and saw a few very faint highlights of what was supposed to be the color. Short version, the product didn't show up as it was supposed to. I do not blame the company it just didn't work on my hair. This is a risk with any brand. A few quick notes to help others: Get some cheap shower curtain liners to cover your surfaces, use petroleum jelly on all showing skin, put a trashbag over your back and shoulders, use makeup remover wipes to remove/fade any product that gets on skin (remove ASAP or it will stain)Amy

I'd been using midnight magenta for years and loved it but was ready for a change. So I let it fade for 6 months, then bleached my roots and did a bleach bath on the lengths. I applied midnight pink sapphire and knew immediately it would look more red than pink- the color itself looks red. The results are pretty, very vibrant and looks a lot like iroiro neon red hair dye. I used this for the first time this week. I really like the shade. The trick to getting a good application is to make sure you shampoo your hair before application so it’s damp and why residue/build up is gone, which can make the color not adhere to your hair. Remember, semi-permanent coats the surface of your hair, not the cuticle, so you want it as clean as possible. I didn't approve or ask for this shade! I got starry black. I'm a natural blonde. In order for me to achieve black hair that doesn't turn green after the 1st wash,I would have to do a filler color first like a medium brown. I don't want to put all those chemicals on my hair. Plus I don't want black hair! I DID NOT USE THIS! I have used feria in the past though, I have used their bleaching kit and their auburn, red and black cherry shades. It is the only box dye I will use. It not only has an essential oil you add to it for a better smell but it also helps the hair feel softer and more hydrated as well as look shiny and healthy, well as healthy as dyed hair can look. For a box dye it's not bad. If I had gotten a color I approved of I totally would have used it! My daughter has medium golden brown hair and has been debating allowing me to use this on her. I'm a natural brunette and while I have dyed my hair a few times over the past couple years I've never went and done a crazy color now if you swipe over you will see I went bright blue and then very quickly decided that that did not fit my skin tone whatsoever and it need to die. The variety I used was l'oreal paris feria shimmering in deep violet. I took this 1st picture about a week after dying my hair with the dye and I had washed my hair about twice using color safe shampoo and color safe conditioning products. It immediately started fading pretty fast right after dying it was a really really dark navy blue with very slight purple undertones and for undertones and then after a few weeks of washing my hair and it's just continuing to lighten dramatically. Currently I'm back to a muddy/blue tinged green. I have used this brand of dye before in different colors when I was dying over brunette hair without any bleach involved and I also do remember that it faded very fast but it wasn't as noticeable because I was dying over dark Brown hair where it's now dyed over light blue and it's very easy to see how fast it has faded down. #complimentary #feriahaircolor
The box came with everything I needed for color application as well as after care. Instructions were easy enough to follow. There was enough color to fully saturate my hair. I started with light brown hair and it got it to a dark vibrant black. Washed as instructed and used after care products and my hair did not feel damaged. I have now been forced to try other brands to try to duplicate the look of 7R, but to no avail. Please, please, please bring Excellence Cream 7R Red Penny back! I used the 5AB color because I wanted to cover my brassy lifted hair and go maybe a shade darker. Make sure you use 10 volume developer not the one they give you if you’re just going darker. If you use the one they give, it will be harsh and lift your hair and you risk having even more red or orange in your hair. I have a really thick head of hair but only ended up using half a bottle since my hair is short. It feels pretty soft and I didn’t lose much hair rinsing it out. We’ll see how it wears! I’m not quite sure what people are doing wrong, but I have used this product for years if not decades to cover up grays. I have black/brown hair with bright white grays and I use the dark brown color. The color lasts for two months . I have no problem with matching- because the color always “reveals” itself at two weeks- which is normal for all box dye in my experience. I love everything about this kit. I purchase extra gloves nitrile, hair dye brushes, cheap butterfly clips and disposable shower caps. I do it on a day where my hair is greasy because I’m about to take a shower (this protects my scalp from the color and my hair from damage). I mix the color and developer together and let it sit while I rub the pretreatment in with my gloved hands. I shake up the color a lot (60 seconds!) and after I see actual color develop I shake it some more and then start applying. I apply to the top of my hair, brushing it in and then I clip that section off. I work in sections, top, sides and back and then let the dye work for 40 minutes from when I finish applying- cover it with a disposable cap so I don’t drip dye everywhere. I use all of the bottle for my shoulder length hair. This is key!!!! You need to let the part of your hair that is seen the most sit for the entire time. I rinse it out with cold water only (gloves!!!) and then add the conditioner (the whole tube) and let it set in my hair for 5 minutes (also in a cap) before rinsing it out with cold water and washing it with color safe shampoo in cold water. I do not apply this with a comb. There is a comb attachment- but I use a brush to spread it on my hair and the comb attachment to spread it on the brush. You want to paint your hair, soaking it with dye. The other trick is that when I shower, I condition first before I shampoo. This keeps the color in more and I get an incredible volume without my hair getting crunchy.tiziny

I've been dying my hair for several years now (since I was 14) and this is the only product that lightens my dark brunette hair (somewhere between levels 2 and 3) to that perfect platinum. I usually dye my hair pastel colors. I feel like the people who are leaving bad reviews don't know what they're doing. If you get clumps just crush it up. Like, it's not that difficult. I have curly hair (a mixture of 2c and 3a) and it doesn't ruin my curl pattern. Curly hair tends to be dryer and more fragile than straight hair. Yes, your hair is going to fall out if you're putting 40 volume bleach on damaged hair (heat damage counts; if you blow-dry and flat iron your hair constantly you shouldn't bleach your hair at home; go to a professional; I have the same advice for people with chemical treatments and perms). Common sense people. 40 volume bleach is the strongest you can use and it shouldn't be left on for more than 30 minutes. You should never bleach your hair multiple times in a short span of time (Bleaching your hair again after you just bleached it isn't a good idea especially when it's 40 volume). Wait a couple of days between each session. And if you are bleaching your hair for the first time and don't know what you're doing educate yourself. Brad Mondo and Evangeline Demuro make great educational videos on how to do your hair. I suggest using a hair mask every night for a week before bleaching it so that your hair has enough moisture and is also strong enough to handle this. Also, for the love of GOD do not wash your hair before bleaching it. Your hair needs oil for bleach to do its job. The reason why this doesn't work for certain people is that they don't take into account the things I said. Don't use this on damaged hair, don't wash your hair, don't do this multiple times in one day and don't leave it on for a long time. I have fine shoulder length 3B hair. I started from the back and worked my way to the front but got to the top of my head when I realized one box was not enough. Not a big deal for what I was going for but would have been disappointed otherwise. I put coconut oil on my ears as forehead as well as my neck. It still got burned. It felt like sun burn. A piece of hair touch my check and it burned immediately. It did the job but I'm assuming it's really strong. Unless you have a shaved head, get to boxes even if just touching your roots like I was.Kit

Well I usually keep my hair platinum, almost silver, so when I received the Clairol Blonde it Up, Platinum Blonde, I was worried. The color on the chick on the box was not Platinum Blonde in my book or even close. It looked brassy and 1 level. My expectations were realistic and I knew what I had signed up for so… Roots were in need of attention so I went for it. I figured that with no bleach and a different, less damaging delivery method that the worst that could happen was an obviously bad, at home, unprofessional die job. I am completely sold on this product. I left it on for the entire 60 minutes for developing because I thought it would definitely need it. I usually use chemicals that lift 8× and can be and are damaging. Clairol Blonde it up, Platinum Blonde, the one that looks almost strawberry Blonde on the box, did better than my usual system and with no brassiness! A lightening product that doesn't damage hair, even previously repeatedly bleached hair, changes the game. The roots actually looked more natural, for bleached hair, than what I have been doing for more than 20 years. No hair fall AWESOME and my hair actually feels better than before I used it! Clairol – "Blonde it up" was complimentary from Influenster in exchange for an honest review. I'm someone who bleach's my roots every other month. It usually takes two bleachings to achieve my desired platinum color plus a toner. I liked the Clairol for its gentleness and workability. It took my roots from almost black to a light tone blonde in one sitting! That's more than I expected from a no bleach product. I was happy that the processing time was longer than with bleaching. It gave me more time to get it all in. The formula didn't get dry and was super easy to work with, allowing me to make parts in saturated sections if needed. With bleach that's a hard thing to do because of how quickly it dries and tangles my hair. Now the color worked well with my dark virgin roots but honestly didn't do much to the dull yellow from the previous bleaching. It smelled harsh but was noticeably less damaging to my hair and scalp. I will need to use another box in a few weeks(as usual with bleach) and I think it'll be a great overall result. I will be using it again, I'm not sure how iv never tried it before!darcy.d
Im extremely happy with the results of this color! I used this the day I got it sent to me, it came in perfect timing because I wanted to lighten my roots and put some green color in my hair. You can see in the before pictures how I had close to 2 inches of roots. When I applied Clairol’s lightener, I applied only to the roots and left a little space from my scalp. I left on for almost 50 mins (I didn’t cover it up with foil or anything to contain heat) after reading the directions. Then about 15 mins before washing it out I pulled the color a little down the strand and also put it all over my scalp! I am FLOORED with how well it lightened, along with the minimal damage. I am definitely using this again to lighten my roots. The integrity of my hair is still very strong and healthy. This is a way better alternative to bleach if your scalp is sensitive because there was absolutely no burning! If I would’ve covered my hair it probably would’ve processed faster and been MUCH lighter but I couldn’t find anything to do that at the time (winged it). I am extremely happy with the end result and how nice it looks with the green color I added!leah.p

I bought this Splat 30 day no bleach for my daughter in Midnight Amethyst. I colored my hair for 25+ years at home without issue and have to say this product is awful. Despite applying petroleum jelly all around hair line and ears, she still has major staining. Her hair is short, very thick, and dark blonde. We left the color on for an hour and 15 minutes. That was long enough for the dye to slide down onto her scalp and stain it, so wherever her hair is parted, there is bright purple splotches. As soon as this product touched skin, it stained instantaneously. It took 30 minutes and two rounds of shampoo so far to rinse the excess out and it still blotted lavender onto the towel. On her hair, you can only see a slight dark purple hue if she's in bright light. The gloves are poor quality and tore between my thumb and forefinger and I have a huge purple stain that isn't coming off despite scrubbing. The only thing nice to say is the scent. Other than that, this has no redeeming qualities and I will never purchase again or recommend Splat. Waste of time, waste of money, and she is very disappointed with her first time coloring her hair.

And her clothes have been dyed, her pillows and pillow cases are colored. I give 2 stars because the color is stunning! Oh – and the bathtub- I have to bleach the tub every time we shower because the color runs out and dyes it every time. It’s a beautiful color but it’s a horrendous dye. It’s just a shame that it wears off on everything until you finish washing it completely out of your hair. Oh – and the bathtub- I have to bleach the tub every time we shower because the color runs out and dyes it every time. It’s a beautiful color but it’s a horrendous dye. You will never have the same color because of the extreme fading.

Easy to use. Very very natural color. I have to use an old towel for a few days due to color coming out, but that's not unusual. I use their brown and copper browns and love the red hint without any hint of purple that some of the reds have. A very natural reddishness in some of them. Will continue to use.K8f118
I have been using Herbatint for about 10 years, did try different colors combinations: red, brown, blond.—never disappointed with the condition of my hair after coloring. Then i decided to try the Naturigin brand. First i google it—brand from Denmark. I sought why not. Color—light Ash blond is as pictured—true Light Ash blond, but my hair felt so dry—like a hay. I tried differend moisturizer, but damage has been done. I have fine hair and i believe whatever was in this color was too strong for my hair type—it burned and got a lot of breakage. it’s never happened to me after using the Herbatint. I have bright naturally blonde hair. I've dyed my hair in the past and always had great results with color. To be clear I have virgin blonde hair now and this didn't leave a drop of color anywhere but on my bathtub. It stained the tub, walls and my skin. But left no color on the hair itself. Worst experience ever. Wouldn't recommend for anyone. Had a friend with darker hair try it and had an even worse experience with also no change to her hair color but her hair is absolutely fried. Wont ever be recommending this brand to anyone.
I have really dark hair and I never get good results from any store bought hair dyes, but this one worked amazing. The color really showed up and it turned all my Grey's into a beautiful touch to the already amazing color it done on my hair!! However it's extremely messy and really really hard to get off skin/counters, and it took me days to get my bath tub cleaned!Blessedmama88
