I purchased one in the early 90s, well built. I purchased another in 2020, CHEAP! It cost about 3 times as much as it did back then. The company is like most other companies now, all about profit. The materials are cheaper, the hose kinks easily, no elasticity. Even the power supply cord is cheap. Pretty sure it won't last. They even put it in a cheap box, barely fits in the box. The design besides being very aesthetic and elegant, is made in a way that is very simple and easy to use, a function that I really like is that you press a button to rotate the top of the dryer to have a better angle and grip when drying, I was fascinated. The motor blows out enough air in three levels to dry your hair in a short time. In terms of heat it also has three levels but with the first two you can style your hair very well because it generates enough heat and this added to the fact that it blows out the air strongly, makes it unnecessary to use the maximum heat level. Before styling the hair it is recommended to use some product to protect the hair from the heat, this varies from person to person, however we must not forget that we are exposing our hair to heat. The performance is great, each of the ways the aceseories can be use, I get a excellent result, it takes time but it is worh it. It is possible to straighten the hair and curl it if desired, give volume or if you have curly hair you can also get many styles. I am NOT a hair person so any tool that comes along meant to make dealing with my hair an easier task I am more than willing to give it a try. This is similar to another popular brand on the market but it has less attachments. This is definitely not a bad thing unless you need the other attachments to achieve the look you are hoping for. The instructions for this one is pretty straightforward and simple, even for someone like me. The smoothing brush attachment does an okay job smoothing my hair texture but I immediately knew I would have to add one more tool to this setup to accommodate my natural hair texture and get the smoothness I need to avoid any additional heat in my hair after completing the process until my next hair wash. So I did have to use a flat iron to truly smooth my hair out. Also, because of the texture of my hair (which many women of color may be in the same boat) the idea of leaving hair not completely dry to use the curling attachment isn’t realistic as my hair would not hold up 5 minutes after walking out of the door if I tried that and my hair would become a huge poofy mess. Using a small amount of setting spray on each section before using the curling attachment is what works for me. It’s a bit of a learning curve if you haven’t used the similar version but ultimately this works well enough. It won’t give you the same curls you could achieve with an actual curling iron but it will give you nice, soft waves to curls (smaller sections of hair to achieve more curl, bigger section to achieve soft waves). For some hair types this will be an excellent addition to their routine. For myself, it’s good if you have the additional time and if using the safer heat option for your hair to try and maintain hair health with less damage from heat. I have owned my shark for a couple months now and I love it, but…. Size and shape of the drying device is great. The attachments are marginal, and designers should have consulted more with stylists. I have asked 3 stylists to use it and tell me what they thought, all said the same things that I thought. Power buttons are way to low on the dryer so you find yourself constantly trying to adjust when styling. Diffuser is AMAZING! Love that there is an adjustment for the length of hair and it works amazingly! Using the round brush and paddle brush attachments are extremely cumbersome with the length and weight of the device it becomes heavy especially with working with longer hair. Would be much better for shorter hair shoulder length or so. Personally I find myself using the dryer and my actual round brush more than the attachments. The curling attachments are simply a poor design, doesn’t capture enough hair and the fact that you have to constantly replace the attachment depending on which way you want to curl you hair is a pain. Once you are able to chapter enough hair to curl it does work and hair comes out soft beach and so silky! It’s disappointing that when spending $400 on a dryer with so many attachments there isn’t a bag or box to keep everything together. This is a customer delight oversight. Now, it is way less expensive than the Dyson for a very similar product so I would recommend this product but to people with shorter hair.JenLyn
This hair dryer was a Christmas gift from my boyfriend and I love it SO much. Before I begin my in-depth review, I believe I should mention my hair type. I have medium length hair (middle of my back) and my hair is medium/thick. When I let my hair air dry, it gets frizzy even after adding in hair care products (my hair is slightly compromised due to bleach). Now, onto the dryer. First, the hairdryer itself is VERY easy to use. You really do not need to look at the instruction manual that comes with it to learn how to use it because it is very easy to navigate the dryer and it's attachments (however, I do recommend reading it for safety purposes and caring for the dryer). Second, the attachments are very lightweight and easy to attach to the dryer. They click on almost immediately and removing them is just as easy. When attached while using the dryer, they don't move at all and stay right in place, making it easy to style your hair. Third, the dryer itself is powerful! I took a small section of my hair and set the dryer to the lowest heat setting and my hair dried in less than a minute. My hair was straightened and there was zero frizz. It took about 8-10 minutes to fully dry all of my hair and when I finished, my hair looked shiny and healthy (compared to when it air dries). Now, with every amazing product, there are always a few cons. My first con is the weight of the dryer. It isn't terribly heavy, but it is definitely heavier than a traditional blow dryer. Second, it's a bit noisy. It kind of sounds like the hand dryers used in shopping mall bathrooms (I didn't expect it to be awfully quiet, but I also didn't expect it to be so loud). And finally, I really wish the hairdryer came with some sort of case or box to store the dryer. I've been keeping it in the box it came in and it isn't offering the dryer much protection. I've had the Shark FlexStyle for about a month now, and had the opportunity to use it several times. For reference, I have long thick hair – and a lot of it! I also have natural wave (about a 2c). I've eyed the competitor for years, but was leaning toward their dryer over their styling system because of all the reviews for it saying the styles didn't hold well. When the Shark FlexStyle launched, I was so excited about the prospect of combining a truly powerful dryer (which also comes with a great diffuser) with the option to use other attachments to style my hair ALL the ways. The dryer is so powerful, it dries all my hair quickly and thoroughly. I like the 3 heat/3speed/cool shot format for the settings. The controls are easy to use and, I think, placed well on the device. I now get even better results when I wear my hair curly because of how well it dries and how functional the diffuser is (size/adjustable). On days I wear my hair straight, I'll go in first with no attachment in the dryer position, then finish with the oval brush head in the straight want position for a smooth straight blowout. I have only tried the curling barrels once since I purchased the device. There is definitely a learning curve, but you get the hang of it pretty quickly. I'm long overdue for a haircut… so for me, once I brushed the curls out, the end result was a more polished blowout. The defined curls didn't last, but my hair is also SUPER heavy at the moment.
