Best Moisturizing Shampoo For Low Porosity Hair (2024 Update)

Ok so! I love this shampoo. This has been the only shampoo to clean my hair and bot dry it out. My natural gwols know how frustrating it can be to wash, moisturize and style your hair and then it be dry and toe up the next. I know how it feels to buy a hundred plus dollars of products to be disappointed or mixing them with new products so money isn't wasted. I washed my hair the first day I bought this and fell in love. My hair was soft. It didn't dry out after and the tea tree leave-in…girl use that too! I haven't tried the detailing conditioner yet because they were out of stock when I purchased. Probably because of that half off sale. I did find that this and Taliah's apple aloe deep conditioner work well together. My hair was shiny, easy to comb and style. I also used the Tgin moisturizer. I have a mix of 4b and 4c hair. My daughter's has 4b hair and it works perfect for her. Her wash and go's hold all day even after recess and a long day at school. My sister has used a nice amount of the leave in and moisturizer, now I have to buy more lol. I am going to try the honey mask and the anti-breakage serum. I will be leaving reviews also. I want to note I am leaving this review after a few weeks of using. I like to get a feel. I washed my hair with the Taliah apple aloe shampoo and it was giving dry and not for me. Let me start off my by saying this product is AMAZINGGGGG ! I usually have a very hard time finding the right products for my hair especially when it comes to shampoo . My hair is usually VERY dry and soaks up moisture QUICK most shampoos tend to leave my hair even more dry and brittle feeling. this shampoo along with the conditioner has done wonders for my hair. After washing my hair with this shampoo it’s left feeling so soft and manageable making my hair easier to stay detangingd throughout the wash process ! This shampo also contains amla bilberry ( both great for hair growth)dynasty.f

I have moderately frizzy but mostly straight Caucasian hair and I've been using natural, sulfate/paraben free shampoos for a year or so now. I like TGIN because it makes my hair SUPER silky and soft. The conditioner detangles so well that I can easily wide tooth comb my hair straight out of the shower. However, my hair does feel very heavy and has NO volume whatsoever after using this. I also have to wash more frequently as my hair gets oily way faster, oily to the point it looks bad. To the touch and the eye, my hair looks fantastic with this product but I might look for something that doesn't require such frequent washing in the future.Jauhnam8

I am about 3/4 through my first bottle and it’s lasted me 1 month – I absolutely love it. My hair is noticeable fuller and bouncier after using this and is super soft to the touch. I have oily fine hair so this definitely fits my criteria for a solid conditioner. Special kudos to the smell. Oh. Em. Gee. I was so close to not even trying this, I had been given a sample to try and almost gave it away but I finally tried it after a long stressful day and omg.. the smell alone sent me to heaven. I mean I know most hair products smell good but this is like a perfume for your hair, which this company actually makes a hair fragrance (I did some research after trying this mask) so I'm not surprised that this smells so good, but I mean it REALLY smells good! And as for the results, my hair is bleached and has about 6 different colors in it, it's long, down to my butt, and VERY dry/brittle. I didn't think the mask would do much but it doesn't have that dry tangled feeling to it like normal when I wash it, it felt sooo luxurious and soft. I am so thoroughly impressed, that I ordered a full size bottle right after trying it. It's THAT good! And I suggest getting it on eBa-ha-y or Mercri so it's not super expensive either! I spent more than I normally would have, at $17 for a bottle, and I'd be surprised if anyone can find it that cheap again, but hey, this stuff is my new therapy in a bottle baby! To preface. I'm a 25 female. Natural light brown hair, bleached low maintenance blonde. Thick wavy frizzy hair that reaches the lower bottom of my back. Prone to split ends and breakage at the bottom of my hair. No extensions. I wanted to add this so people with similar hair types can relate. So to start, I'm so torn on this shampoo… I tried it for 3 weeks and I do like that this shampoo and conditioner cuts down on my overall frizz and made my hair so much smoother and less likely to tangle which is exactly what I was looking for. BUT there is some things about this shampoo I just can't ignore. First off the smell, I just can't get past it. It reminds me of a menthol cigarette. It just smells sooo minty and lingers after washing. Some people may not mind the smell but if my shampoo is going to linger, I'd prefer it to smell like something other than strong mint and almost a tea tree smell. Second, when the conditioner sets for a couple minutes before rinsing out I've noticed that my back and neck where the product has been laying in my hair will get very cold and tingly. Almost like how when you have a breath mint you get the same effect in your mouth but it's on your body this time. This alone made me decide not to repurchase. I like my shower water very warm and I found myself constantly turning the heat up because while the conditioner set I would get extremely cold from the tingly feeling. It can be overwhelming sometimes and linger even after washing the area thoroughly and drying off. I would assume if this was a shampoo and conditioner without the minty smell that I was having an allergic reaction to it but since it has that smell I just really don't know if the tingle is intended or not. And lastly, I've noticed a lot of small breakage at the top of my hair by my scalp. I'm not prone to breakage that high and only notice it after a fresh bleach every once and a while although it is usually very rare for me. I should note that it has been 3 months since my last bleach since I am a low maintenance blonde and I was not using this product during my last bleach. I also take a lot measures to protect my hair that could be the cause of breakage that high. So at this point only thing I've changed is this shampoo and conditioner. I've decided not to finish the rest of the bottle due to concerns about further breakage. This is just my experience. Some people seem to love it but it's a no from me. I hope this helps some people on the fence after reading conflicting reviews. I've switched to Joyco kpac reconstructing shampoo that has also given me the same desirable results so far with a much better smell, no breakage, and most importantly no tingly feeling on by skin.Lexi

I saw the hair loss reviews but if the hair is coming out at the follicle then that is definitely health related not from a shampoo. Shampoo cannot cause hair loss unless maybe a severe reaction to the scalp and there's swelling and for whatever reason the follicle comes out with it but that is highly unlikely. But anyways back to my review lol this is the most hydrating gentle shampoo I've ever used it's perfect! It cleans my hair and makes my scalp feel so refreshed but my hair is detangled and moisturized! And the conditioner is so creamy and moisturizing! The scents for both are so relaxing to me and my hair and scalp are taken care of with this set of shampoo and conditioner. my hair is so soft, shiny and perfectly moisturized. Definitely for medium to thick hair types unless you have finer very porous hair then I think you'd like it. There is quite literally NOTHING hydrating about this shampoo. It's quite stripping, to the point where it feels like a clarifying shampoo. That said, it cleans my hair very nicely, giving me a squeaky clean feeling that I do actually like, especially since I only wash my hair about 2x a week and get a lot of build-up. Gives me nice volume, and my hair feels good when I follow up with the curly hair conditioner. For me, it works because I like a stronger shampoo, but if you're looking for something gentle and hydrating, this is NOT it. I would give this 5 stars if it was described as a clarifying or volumizing shampoo, but calling it hydrating??? They must be joking, especially at this price point.julia

I’m not sure why this shampoo isn’t talked about because it’s truly fantastic. I have naturally curly hair that I blow out every week. My hair is also currently damaged from coloring and all the blow outs so I’m taking a break from both. I’ve tried many others shampoos yet this is the only one that makes a visible difference, my hair is smoother and less frizzy when blown out or air dried, I also swear it extends my color. I’m so impressed with this shampoo that I got their intense hydrating mask, leave in conditioner and oil, I use it all together with a palm full of tigi curls rock amplifier and this combo gives healthy, voluminous curls. I grew up with their hair oil and it’s crazy that after all these years they still have some of the best hair products. I also included Ouai leave in conditioner in my pic, another amazing hydrating product, I alternate this with Moroccanoil’s leave in on wash days. Unfortunately the shampoo didn’t work for me. It has a very strong scent and it matted my hair while washing. I typically don’t write negative reviews because everyone has their own preferences, but I felt I should comment on the customer service in hopes someone from the company would read this and respond. I purchased about $100 worth of product that didn’t work for me. When I tried calling to see what my options were I got a message they were upgrading their phone system so they couldn’t take calls and to please email them. I kindly emailed them with no response. After 10 days I send them a second email… no response. Recently I was able to participate in a unique mission for Topbox Circle to test and review Shea Moisture Manuka Honey & Mafura Oil Intensive Hydration Shampoo and Shea Moisture Manuka Honey & Mafura Oil Intensive Hydration Conditioner. I purchased both full sized 384 ml bottles at my local Shoppers Drug Mart. After reviewing both products, and submitting my receipt, I will be reimbursed by Topbox Circle for the purchase of these two products. I used this Shea Moisture Manuka Honey & Mafura Oil Intensive Hydration Shampoo for the past couple of weeks. I tend to shampoo my naturally wavy to curly hair every other day, and condition it less often, or as needed. This Sulfate Free and Colour Safe Shampoo is made with Fig Extract and Boabab Oil to “Hydrate and Replenish Extra Dry, Damaged Hair”. I found this shampoo relatively thick in texture and so it was a bit hard to get out of the bottle. Found myself having to squeeze the bottle, especially when the bottle was less full, to get the product out. The Conditioner comes in a pump bottle. This shampoo richly lathers and rinses off well. I experienced no irritation on my scalp or skin. It felt gentle. The fragrance on the other hand is far too strong for me. I like the smell of figs and honey, but there’s a potent fragrance to this product. The scent is a bit too much. Shea Moisture is not my usual brand for hair products, but I wanted to try something new. This shampoo left my hair perfumed, shiny, clean, and soft. My curls looked defined. I found the oils and/or conditioners in this product a bit too heavy for daily use (every second day use for me) but I would consider using Shea Moisture Manuka Honey & Mafura Oil Intensive Hydration Shampoo and Conditioner weekly, or as a hair treatment. I purchased Shea Moisture Manuka Honey & Mafura Oil Intensive Hydration Conditioner at my local Shoppers Drug Mart. After completing my review mission, I will be reimbursed by Topbox Circle. I used this Shea Moisture Manuka Honey & Mafura Oil Intensive Hydration Conditioner, every other day, for the past couple of weeks. I tend to use conditioner on my naturally wavy to curly hair, before or after I shampoo, as needed. This Colour Safe conditioner is made with Certified organic Shea Butter, Honey, Mafura and Boabab oils to “restore manageability, nourish and condition dry, brittle hair”. This Shea Moisture conditioner comes in a pump bottle, so the product is easier to get out of the bottle. I left this nourishing conditioner on my hair for a few minutes, before rinsing it off with cool water. I experienced no irritation on my scalp or skin. The fragrance of this Shea Moisture Manuka Honey & Mafura Oil Intensive Hydration Conditioner is a little too strong for me, but less potent than the matching Shampoo. This conditioner left my hair detangled, manageable, shiny, and soft. My curls looked defined, and my hair was easy to style. I was able to try the Black Castor Oil Strengthen & Restore Shampoo as a #freeproduct with #trywithtopbox & was pleasantly surprised. Keeping in mind this is a restorative shampoo it's very unconventional in the way it looks, smells & shampoos the hair. I was very skeptical but was used to it by the 2nd to 3rd time using it. It doesn't suds up/lather as much as a regular shampoo but it does if you really massage the hair well & give it a second shampoo. The color doesn't bother me as I said you get used to it. My hair didn't have the traditional "clean" feeling the first time I used it but there's a definite silkier almost more creamy feel to the hair after using it which is nice. This was a nice surprise! After using it for a few weeks now, I feel like again, I'm used to it & it leaves the hair clean & amazingly hydrated. Keep in mind this is all because this shampoo is sulfate-free (which is a good thing!). So give it a chance! You wouldn't necessarily use this if you have a ton of product in your hair you need to get off (lots of hairspray, gel etc,). This could be used for the second round of shampooing. So recommend to use this when you need some hydration & your hair is heat damaged. Also big plus it didn't burn my eyes which is my number one test with any shampoo especially when I saw the highlighted ingredients as peppermint & apple cider vinegar. I detest mint in general (esp in hair care) & have used products with lots of tea tree oil etc. & do not like it. So points for being subtle smelling & not harsh. Honestly didn't even notice. I bought the Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Shampoo and Conditioner based on the great reviews and I am very disappointed. To clarify, I have extremely fine, thin and flat hair so I am always trying new shampoo and conditioner to try to boost volume and promote growth and so far nothing has really done the trick. Back to this specific shampoo and conditioner. The shampoo is fine, smells great VERY strong minty scent if that is not your thing and gives you that tingling feeling which is nice. However, the conditioner was the WORST I have ever experienced for my type of hair. It left it so dried out and extremely tangled when I got out of the shower, it was the most horrendous thing to comb through. I would rip so much of my hair out every morning from combing, it was that tangled. So, if you want to use the shampoo and substitute with another conditioner like I had to do then its totally fine. But I would definitely NOT recommend the Paul Mitchell Tea Tree conditioner.Anonymous

My hairstylist recommended it to me after seeing that I had a flaky scalp that wasnt dandruff. I had been using Head and Shoulders and Selsun Blue to help, but I really hated how gunky they were, and didnt realize I didnt have dandruff but an incredibly sensitivedry scalp. When she told me that this would balance my scalp, I decided to give it a go. Its an all right product 2 weeks in, the scent and tingly feeling are the real attractive features. It helped for about a week and then my scalp decided to flake only on the edges of my hair line. I wash my hair every night with it and use the conditioner every 23 days. Its a thick product and it doesnt rinse as easily as other shampoos for me. I gave it higher stars because I believe my hair has actually improved using it. Its softer and brighter, but this doesnt help with frizz. I will not be buying it again as I dont think its appropriate to treat my sensitive dry scalp.Anonymous

This is my favorite shampoo, and Ive been using it for months now. I suffer from extremely oily roots and dry ends, and this takes care of it. My hairdresser suggested that I try this, and although I skeptical I decided to try it anyway. While washing my hair the first time I could actually feel the shampoo washing away all of the oil that was on my scalp, and it felt amazing. Another plus what that it smelled absolutely amazing. After I dried my hair I noticed right away that it was much cleaner than it normally was, and my hair was not as limp as normal either. My hair dried better and it felt amazing. My roots were clean but the roots of my hair had not been overly dried either. The second day when my hair normally turns into a grease monster was amazing. My hair had little to no grease in it until the very end of the day, and I easily fixed that with a little bit of dry shampoo, and I could have gone a third day without washing if I had wanted too. This product really gets everything clean and keeps it clean, which is a problem with other products hair is clean but doesnt stay clean. Now I can wash my hair less often, which is a blessing since I used to have to do it very often to keep my hair looking clean. I highly recommend this.Anonymous

Lets talk about he outside in on the Maui Moiture Smooth Repair Vanilla Bean Shampoo. The shape of the bottle is just so convenient, you can store this so easy in a cabinet without it falling over or taking up a crazy amount of space. The cap is easy to open to access the shampoo in the shower. Now the inside. When you open the bottle and take that first sniff you will be in love with the smell. It is just the right amount of vanilla bean to make this perfect and not overwhelming. The consistancy of the shampoo is also perfect, a little goes a long way. It lathers amazing and so smooth. It also rinces easy out of my hair and my hair really does feel clean once it is rinced and doesn't feel like there is any residue or product left in my hair. Once my hair is dry I do see that my frizz has been tamed and my hair is nice and soft. I'm very happy with the results of this shampoo and would recommend other try it if you find you have too much frizz or your hair isn't as smooth and soft and you would like it to be.Gerberbaby72

Exceeded my expectations!! Literally smells like a vanilla heaven!! (I love vanilla scented anything) and left my hair incredibly soft and manageable. I also used the conditioner which smelled even better then the shampoo and made my hair even softer! I tried the hair butter (review is on my profile) and loved it so i wanted to try the shampoo too! And it’s so good! First of all: it smells amazing, the vanilla isn’t too strong and smells very natural. The consistency of the shampoo is quite thick but easy to “activate”(foam it) and easy to use. I started losing my hair 2.5 years ago when my ex and I split. 28 years together, so the stress and heartache were unbearable. I lost two-thirds of my hair! Please I beg you don't ever change or tamper with this product line, it's absolutely perfect. I have very fine hair and not very much of it either. I've tried everything over the moon and deduced my poor hair quality to a bad luck of the draw – that is ultra-fine hair. For the most part of my life I haven't been able to grow my hair past my shoulder without it looking stringy, and split ends are common place. I changed my diet, ate more greens, I used every product on the market to lightly moisturize and/or deep moisturize, not being able to figure what was wrong with my hair. I stopped blowdrying, straightening, I used sprays, masks and oils. I even stopped washing my hair as often in hopes to solve my hair woes. Nothing has worked and it's all either made my hair super greasy and limp or super dry and dull. Until, I recently found myself in a grocery store looking for a shampoo/conditioner. Overwhelmed by the task I concluded that they must all be the same thing so I may as well find the one that smells the best. That's when I came across this product line. I've been using it now for a week and I can't believe my hair. It's GLOWING. I no longer need to use a detangler after the shower and my head feels super clean without stripping my scalp dry. I can go 2 days now without washing my hair! Which is a HUGE surprise since that's never been the case. I also must I say my hair is soooo sooo soft! I've been working in the hair industry for about a decade and have tried many many shampoos, my favorite shampoo is about $100 for 33 floz of shampoo and conditioner and it is very moisturizing but it has keratin and protein so when I need a shampoo strictly for moisture when I have protein overload, I discovered this! I went through every brand at the store to find a sulfate free shampoo that was hydrating, low in chemicals, fragrances and silicones and something that actually cleans the scalp. It's winter so my hair can become very dry as I have more textured hair, It is a great shampoo to remove oils, buildup, product and pollution. It is also very light because the first ingredient is aloe. and it has a surfactant but so it does soap up a little bit but it is not sulfate so it will not dry out your scalp. At its price tag, I really am so glad we found this because a little goes a long way. I do recommend finding another shampoo for some protein and keratin, but this is a good cleansing shampoo. I have tried other things from this line and did not like them as much as this but give it a shot!Laila

I have long fine and wavy hair and have always found products, especially almost 100% of conditioners I've tried, too heavy, i.e. greasy and especially once slept on, flattening. Also have the added challenge of scalp and skin sensitivity anywhere my hair rests against my face and neck. This product cleans your hair & scalp well and the conditioner adds just a light protection. My hair is also coloured which makes it drier. This product does leave my hair frizzier than other shampoos, but it remains feeling clean and healthy longer, doesn't irritate my scalp and skin, and sustains body much longer – and that is worth the frizz. On the plus side, if I need to tame the frizz I can just apply a dot of anti-frizz products after it's dried only where it's needed.PT

Everyone's hair is different, so I can understand some of the bad reviews. For me this stuff is a match made in heaven. I know shampoo…I have tried SO many. My go to was always AG's fast food shampoo. With the ulta liter sale I decided to switch it up. Searched for a sulfate free kind and one with ingredients I can understand. Lead me to this one. Smells GOOD. Lathers GOOD. Makes my hair super shiny and gives me volume. No more knots and the conditioner is a great match as well. I have blonde thinning bleached hair. This shampoo and conditioner pair are the only that I've ever noticed are seriously moisturizing! My hair actually takes longer to blowdry after washing with this vs. other brands/lines, and feels so soft. I'm not crazy about the smell (grapefruit-y), but it's not terribly strong and doesn't seem to stick around post-wash, so it's okay. But I wish Target would carry the matching conditioner! I have to go buy that elsewhere, in smaller bottles at higher prices.HooHaHaver

I tried the shampoo with another conditioner and this one that goes with it goes best with the shampoo for silky hair because it actually does what it says in my opinion. I love it for those special occassions or everyday if you want silky hair. : )Elissa

I spent a few hundred dollars and used a these products exclusively in November/December 2017. A few weeks into my new routine, I started noticing tons of breakage and scalp sores. I took the advice of my MP, added in an oil and a mask to combat the breakage and soothe my scalp… A few weeks later, my husband pointed out my rapidly thinning hair and bald spots appearing. I immediately stopped using ALL Monat products went to a doctor. The doctor advised that the new hair products severely damaged my scalp by causing a growth of bacteria and gave me steroids and some medicated rinses. I also went to my stylist who informed me that my scalp looked like I had chemical/acid burns and that Monat products completely fried chunks of my hair off. Now, I didn't go from using low quality drug store products on my hair to Monat, I don't have a hormonal imbalance, I don't have allergies to common products, I don't have a vendetta against MLM's or seeing people "succeed", it's not my water – we have a very high end water system in my house, and I certainly don't sell competing brands (I'm a teacher, not a stylist). I was using HIGH quality salon brands and took excellent care of my hair before switching. Since Nov/Dec 2017, I've had to cut off at least 8 inches, use medicated rinses, do expensive treatments at salons. 10 months later, and my scalp is still itchy and inflamed, I'm still experiencing severe breakage and fall out, my bald spots have filled in ever so slightly, but I'm now experiencing NEW bald spots. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of other people experiencing similar issues from these products and the company is not taking responsibility. If you're reading this considering buying Monat products, just say "NO"; do yourself a favor and go spend your money on professional salon products which will even be cheaper than Monat.jessica.h

This shampoo, along with the conditioner, did seem to help the regrowth of my hair a little bit. I believe it does do it's job. However, I find it to be very expensive compared to other hair growth brands like Bosley for instance. I was a VIP member for Monat so I even got the discount and with shipping the system was often over $100. Great products, just not necessarily worth the price I'm comparison to other similar systems on the market. I will note for people reading this review that my hair is thin and fine. The thinnest part of my hair is on top. Note that I am not very photogenic. I also recently started using a different shampoo so this picture may be a mix of results. For me personally this shampoo did not work for my hair type AT ALL. It made my hair feel like complete straw and made it extra knotty frizzy. I believe it just dried out my hair and that it just was not the right shampoo for me personally. However, this shampoo worked great for someone that I know in helping them eliminate dandruff. This is a weird one. It's a sulfate shampoo without any of the "harsh" sulfates people associate with them. The result is a really satisfying, fine-grained lather that cleans extremely well but feels very different from SLS shampoo. This is not a super gentle or hypoallergenic shampoo. But it strikes a nice balance between conventional SLS/SLES formulations and purely cocamidopropyl betaine formulations. So it's well within the comfort zone for just about anyone. This one is different from the main Paul Mitchell awapuhi shampoos, and worth a try if you like other formule with similar surfactants. The only negatives I really have to say are that cocomidopropyl betaine is sensitizing and irritating for a lot of people, there's a bit of controversy around it. Also, if I use this shampoo without clarifying for an extended period my hair gets weirdly light and fluffy. I suspect this is due to this product either not cleansing out certain things or depositing them, making my hair repel itself on an ionic level. May be solved with certain products or blow drying, havent really found the solution there.Bacchante

I have long baby fine wavy color treated hair that became wiry/frizzy after it began growing salt/pepper. It's naturally oily, and I believe I have sebhorriec dermatitis (flakey & itchy particularly around the ears). Most shampoos that treat the dermatitis cause eve more oil production. I have tried everything without relief until this. Not only did it stop the itch and over production or skin cells/dermatitis but it controls the frizz without leaving it oily. Because of the cost & add some of PM's regular awapuhi shampoo to it on alternate days. I condition afterward with Not Your Mother's Way to Grow & then use a Wet Brush to brush through it easily, and then just let it air dry. At 55 I have the hair I dreamed of in my 20's. I use Age Beautiful 7N hair dye, and it holds too.Double_V

First time user of this product and was very happy with it. The shampoo is so beautifully creamy, I had to check I was using the shampoo and not the conditioner! Hello everyone. I came across this product. I mean I was constantly looking for a mild chemical free shampoo as I was facing a postpartum hair fall. I fortunately came across the Tree To Tub. Soapberry shampoo. I also read its contents, and I thought why not? I give this a try and uh it's amazing. It's not only gentle, it's also paraben sulfate uh silicon free, which is required for the water today. And also apart from the stress and tension that we go through, we require this kind of a shampoo, which is a very mild gentle on the scalp as an and we can use this on a daily basis. So this is an amazing product for all you women out there who want to get their hair shampooed on a daily basis without having to worry that you know, it can be harsh on their scalp. Uh it can cause hair green issues. This is amazing. I can't wait to try and just try their shampoo. I can't wait to try their other products, especially their conditioner. So my hair actually feels a lot more gentle and a lot more thicker fuller bouncy without even having to do blow dry my hair or straightening my head. I just feel so moisturized and so nourished in just one or two uses. So I can see the difference right there and I would love to use their other range of products. I’m always trying out clean products, so I took a chance on this set for my hair and I’m glad I did. Keep in mind that if you are currently using regular stuff from the grocery store, your hair will have to detox for you to feel the effects of a clean natural shampoo. On my third wash my hair was clean, shiny and moisturized without leave-in products. I confidently use this on my kids too. I wish the bottle was bigger for the price, though. I'm very impressed with the ingredients in this shampoo and pleasantly surprised at how well it works. Many years ago I was on the hunt for body care items that were fragrance and dye free to address some health issues I was experiencing. Back then (about 10 years ago) it was not easy to find these items and even more difficult to find any that worked as well as "regular" products. I wish this had been available back then! It smells wonderful and lathers just as well as any other shampoo. I have extremely sensitive skin and found this product didn't cause any issues. My hair looked great, felt fantastic, and did I mention I loved the smell? The only downside (for me) is that even though I only wash my hair 1-2 times per week the cost is a bit high for my budget. Wow! Best shampoo I have ever used by far! I have spent years trying to find a shampoo that doesn’t make my hair a tangly matted mess but this cleans my scalp and give my hair slip and hydration at the same time, I have dry curly / wavy hair that gets split ends and breaks easily and I have noticed a significant different in the ends and over all appearance and feel of my hair since using this shampoo and the correlating conditioner. The shampoo has a decent lather and you don’t need much of it as a little goes a long way. The only downside is that for me this product was a lot more than what I’d usually spend on a shampoo/ conditioner but is definitely worth the investment for something that actually works for my hair for once.sophie.b

I really wanted to like this but I just couldn’t so I returned it. The scent was the most part for me… I expected the same scent as the original Moroccanoil Hair oil so maybe my expectation was high? It was almost like those glade spray fresh clean scent to me. I have long hair (almost touches my coxis; half of it is dyed because I’m trying to achieve a melted effect.. from my natural dark brown to grey) So my ends need help to maintain its elasticity, moisture and prevent split ends. I got everything from this brand that I was able to afford to start taking care of it . (Repair, protect and restorative products) It has passed 2 weeks and I’m planning on keep washing my hair every 3-4 days; I have experienced NO frizz as before, no tangle hair, it’s feels soft , smell great, more manageable. i never write reviews for anything but holy cow this quite literally saved my hair. for reference i have a mix of 2b, 2c, and 3a hair due to years of coloring and heat damage. i have quite a bit of hair and it's thick, low porosity, and protein sensitive. no matter what "hydrating" products i've used my hair has always felt dry and never absorbed anything i put in it. i got my colored red hair retouched recently and not quite sure what my stylist used to treat my hair this time around but it came out sooo dry and brittle. after some research and finding out more about my hair type i decided to try this plus the conditioner that goes with it. and wow is all i have to say. i've never had hair this soft straight out the shower and it's so easy to comb through now. curls i thought were lost forever returned. i'm also noticing less hair fallout probably from my hair not being so tangled anymore. this shampoo cleanses really well without stripping my hair and it just overall transformed the look and feel of my hair. 10/10 recommend if you have a similar hair typepia

When I first used this shampoo I hated how it felt. I thought it made my hair feel limp, almost sticky, and a bit greasy. I decided to keep using it since it didn't irritate my skin (I'm very sensitive and shampoos can cause eczema flares for me) and after 2 weeks of daily use I've noticed an incredible change in the feeling and appearance of my hair. Gone is the weird sticky feeling and now my hair is soft, shiny, bouncy, and healthy. My ends feel hydrated and so soft. I've even noticed less hairfall in the shower and in my brush as well. My scalp — normally irritated and itchy — feels normal and healthy. I think this shampoo is so gentle that if you were using something laden with silicones before it doesn't get the buildup off. I recommend using a clarifying shampoo and then integrating these products into your routine. I use this with the Formula 133 conditioner sold by Kiehl's. Highly recommend them both!Danielle

I am always amazed at the range of Kiehl's products – from daily skin care, to treatments, rich body care, family toiletry products, and hair care as well. I've been a fan of Kiehl's skincare for some time, but had never tried any of the haircare until I was given the Amino Acid Shampoo and Conditioner. This shampoo contains amino acid and coconut oil to clean the hair gently, as well as wheat proteins and wheat starch which are claimed to add body. It is described as suitable for all hair types and as a mild shampoo, gentle enough to use every day. It is free of silicone and parabens I am instantly attracted to anything coconut, it reminds me of the beach and summertime. So I would probably still like this product even if it didn't live up to it's claims! Fortunately, I am happy to report that it does. My hair, which is straight, quite fine but abundant, and coloured, felt soft and silky afterwards, and still had it's usual body. There was no issue at all with it feeling "weighed down" or limp – and I do know what that feels like, whenever I have my hair coloured. I have fairly dry, coloured hair with a slightly oily scalp, but both scalp and ends felt perfectly clean after using Amino Acid. It might be counter-intuitive to think of coconut oil with an oily scalp, but in this case it works.\n\nThe lather – I have to say it doesn't lather quite as well as my usual shampoo but, with an oily scalp, I naturally double shampoo. The first shampoo to remove any excess oil, the second to really clean the hair. On the second shampoo, with Amino Acid the lather is rich and creamy, exactly as I want, but also easy to rinse out. The coconut scent afterwards is wonderful, it lingers but is not overpowering. There is nothing better than having been at the beach, hot and sticky, and then washing all of that away with a coconut-scented product. It reminds me of those times.\n\nThe packaging is fairly plain, on the face of it – just a plastic bottle, but what I really like about Kiehl's packaging is the trademark cursive writing, and the fact that all the ingredients and directions are right there conveniently on the bottle,not on a leaflet, so you can read them clearly.\n\nThe price is the only drawback – it is very high for a product that will be used as often as a shampoo. So I would recommend that people use it as I do – as an extra summer shampoo for those times when you have been in the pool every day and need to step up the shampooing. \n\nAnne F.

I waited awhile to do this review, I wanted to see how my hair responded to using Kiehl's Since 1851 Amino Acid Shampoo and Conditioner. I have been using it for 5 months now and I am impressed. I have always been "cheap" when it has come to shampoo and conditioner, but I was having a lot of issues with my hair. My volume was flat, my natural waves always seemed limp, and the worst part was that every time I brushed or washed my hair I was pulling out clumps. I switched to Kiehl's and it is like night and day. My natural waves are back, my hair is growing back in areas where my hair was thinning, my hair isn't falling out by the bunches anymore and my hair is soft and has volume again. k, so to preface I've always used drugstore haircare so the bar was pretty low for me when it comes to anything hair related. These were recommended to me by one of the hairstylists at Ulta. Now, my hair has some issues, but this shampoo/conditioner set wrecked my hair. It made my hair frizzy, dry, and hard to brush through. The ends of my hair felt like straw. I have used Kenra moisturizing shampoo for years. Like others have said, the new formula is horrible. It is so thin (seems watered down) & it doesn't smell as nice. The old formula was thick & very luxurious! It takes at least 4 pumps to get this new formula to lather decently, whereas as before, only 1 pump was needed for my whole head of long hair! My hair no longer feels moisturized & healthy after using. I'm so sad that I need to find a new product. Please bring back the old formula!Sad hair in Silicon Valley
