I had a sample of this shampoo, then bought the full size and now that I've used it up, I'm missing it! Other shampoos that I've used including shea moisture, taliah waajid and the mane choice just don't compare to this. This shampoo checks all the boxes, except being black-owned. I can detangle, it's moisturizing, it smells good, it has GREAT ingredients and it gets my scalp SO clean! When I use other shampoos, I still have a little bit of itching after and my scalp really starts itching mid-week. With this shampoo, even when I work out almost everyday, I don't get the incessant itch until almost the end of the week. The itching is so much less than anything else I've used. Hopefully it's made by black people so I can support black professionals that way. I'll definitely repurchase!

SO GLAD i did!! seriously like liquid gold in a bottle, it smells lovely makes my hair feels silky and moisturized! i look forward to washing my hair now, literally count the days down. i also use this lines detangling spray which i technically dont need bc of how amazingly soft the shampoo and conditioner make my hair but i feel that it definitley helps! i have type 3 curly hair. I was able to try this product in exchange for review, which I was thrilled about as I have always wanted to try this particular Shea Moisture line. I have heavily highlighted and have attacked it quite regularly with hot tools. Add in pandemic self-done haircuts, my hair has been feeling rather dry and brittle. After two weeks of using this shampoo, twice a week, My hair feels moisturised but perhaps a little too much so. For my particular hair, I cannot use this is my go-to shampoo, but more as a twice a month or so treatment shampoo. The texture is not like any I have tried before, it is a semi-viscus liquid that pours out like a watery honey, not at all like a standard shampoo, so pay attention in the shower! The smell is a comforting warm vanilla. For my hair this product is a little too moisturising to use with every wash, but if you have coarser hair than mine, I definitely say give it a whirl. I was able to try the Black Castor Oil Strengthen & Restore Shampoo as a #freeproduct with #trywithtopbox & was pleasantly surprised. Keeping in mind this is a restorative shampoo it's very unconventional in the way it looks, smells & shampoos the hair. I was very skeptical but was used to it by the 2nd to 3rd time using it. It doesn't suds up/lather as much as a regular shampoo but it does if you really massage the hair well & give it a second shampoo. The color doesn't bother me as I said you get used to it. My hair didn't have the traditional "clean" feeling the first time I used it but there's a definite silkier almost more creamy feel to the hair after using it which is nice. This was a nice surprise! After using it for a few weeks now, I feel like again, I'm used to it & it leaves the hair clean & amazingly hydrated. Keep in mind this is all because this shampoo is sulfate-free (which is a good thing!). So give it a chance! You wouldn't necessarily use this if you have a ton of product in your hair you need to get off (lots of hairspray, gel etc,). This could be used for the second round of shampooing. So recommend to use this when you need some hydration & your hair is heat damaged. Also big plus it didn't burn my eyes which is my number one test with any shampoo especially when I saw the highlighted ingredients as peppermint & apple cider vinegar. If your hair or beard is long you will not be able to run your fingers through your hair as you're working it in and washing it out. What can I say aside from this stuff being absolutely incredible. It has a dry finish, but within hours your hair feels softer and smells amazing with this lemon scent that lathers well and is perfect for men who want more volume or have thinning hair. I luckily still have a full head of hair, but it’s quite fine in texture, and this stuff truly does make it feel more thick from the Coconut Oil and Kelp Extract that they infuse. Even my girlfriend loves using this stuff and she is extremely picky when it comes to shampoo or conditioner. For reference I have low porosity thin coarse curly hair. I had really high hopes for this product. After a few uses I realized that this product lead to extreme hair loss for me and product buildup. This stuff WORKS and LASTS FOREVER! I was originally on the fence about buying it because of the price, but I can now say it is completely worth it. I use it every other day and the big bottle has lasted me about 8-9 months! It’s very thick so you don’t need nearly as much compared to other shampoos, even with my shoulder length hair. It also did wonders for my hair, my family and friends have all commented on how much thicker my hair seems since I started using it. No complaints about the shampoo. It does the things that shampoo should do: lathers and cleans. The lather is also pleasantly viscous, so points there for Jack Black. No idea if it thickens, but I wasn't really paying attention to that. My only gripe is that the bottle doesn't indicate it smells like peppermint. If I had bought it in-store I would have known this. But I ordered online. I have nothing against the peppermint smell, nor producers of peppermint, nor peppermint enthusiasts, but it just seems to me that 30% of men's products all smell of peppermint (don't hold me to that percentage…I'm using it as hyperbole). First off I thought this was like a thick lotion or cream and no, it is not.. so you’re gonna have to buy a squirt bottle or a mister of some type to go along with this product.  when you shake the bottle it sounds like water but giiiiirl it is not! I like this leave in conditioner it has a water like consistency. It has almost a fruity pineapple scent. It doesnt moisturize my hair but It is also an additional heat protection so it makes my life easier to not constantly try to buy a seperate heat protectant for styling. It doesnt do much hydration at all but it does the job for a tiny extra bit of moisture. If youre someone that has low perosity hair i don’t recommend as it doesnt have much hydration properties at all but maybe for someone who has an oily scalp and want a more lightweight product this may be the one for you. my daughter recommended this shampoo along with the conditioner. I was surprisingly disappointed. I of course thought right away that it would be effective based on the cost. Not at all, for starters I felt it made my hair more tangled and hard to manage which concerned me cause I already have course hair and figured how am I going to get out of this tangled mess. The conditioner didn't even help a bit and need I mention that when I tried to style my hair it was never ending. By the time I finished styling and drying my hair, my hair was so dried and brittle and even more course that when I started ugh!!! I learned that cost doesn't mean efficiency at all. Literally the worst expensive shampoo I have ever used. It doesn’t lather that well, and it makes my hair feel tangled, heavy, and sticky after rinsing it out. I was completely surprised that this didn't do for me what all the reviews I read said it would. I understand everyone's hair is different but I read so many reviews raving about this that I had no doubt that this was going to be the best shampoo I'd ever tried. Boy was I wrong… The first issue I had with this was that it didn't latter do a degree that I am used to. I thought I was going to be able to work around this but without the latter I really didn't feel as though it was cleaning my hair. I started with one pump but that really only washed the top of my head- barely. Another pump for my hair (mid back length, curly) which lathered even less on the strands then my scalp. Using two pumps – sometimes three- really doesn't bode well for the life of the product. With that said problem two arose; this barely lasted a month and a half using it every other day. At 24$ a bottle it really isn't realistic for me to keep purchasing when I was having no results and basically dumping it down the drain. Results were really nonexistent, my hair was still frizzy and ultimately more dry than before I started using it. There was no real change in texture in the month I used it. There was no problem for me with the smell like some people had, it just smelled like salon shampoo. Unfortunately I will not be purchasing this again, however I wouldn't tell people to stay away as so many reviewers said that it did wonders for them so I imagine I'm just an off case. (As a disclaimer I did use this with the It's a 10 conditioner so my problems weren't conditioner based.)mariah.h

I bought this for my boyfriend who has very long curly hair. It is dry and he has dandruff. Before giving it to him I experimented on my very healthy virgin hair. The smell was so strong I couldn't breathe and I had to wash it immediately! It left my hair dry and lackluster. My boyfriend liked the smell but his curls were left straight and very very dry after 3 days of not washing his hair the extreme mint scent went away leaving a rancid smell to him. I bought this shampoo to help with hair shedding. Not sure what it did as far as shedding and hair growth but it definitely detoxed my scalp which is amazing. The scent is very herbal which I am not a fan of. The shampoo doesn't lather that well so I found myself using a lot of product and for the price point I didnt like that. Lets talk about he outside in on the Maui Moiture Smooth Repair Vanilla Bean Shampoo. The shape of the bottle is just so convenient, you can store this so easy in a cabinet without it falling over or taking up a crazy amount of space. The cap is easy to open to access the shampoo in the shower. Now the inside. When you open the bottle and take that first sniff you will be in love with the smell. It is just the right amount of vanilla bean to make this perfect and not overwhelming. The consistancy of the shampoo is also perfect, a little goes a long way. It lathers amazing and so smooth. It also rinces easy out of my hair and my hair really does feel clean once it is rinced and doesn't feel like there is any residue or product left in my hair. Once my hair is dry I do see that my frizz has been tamed and my hair is nice and soft. I'm very happy with the results of this shampoo and would recommend other try it if you find you have too much frizz or your hair isn't as smooth and soft and you would like it to be.Gerberbaby72

I use to buy the "Hairitage" products because they were good on my hair and scalp. My hair was still dry even when skipping a day or two. I bought these shampoo and conditioner "Hair Food" and I have to say… I'm impressed. My hair is smooth, it's not frizzy (even with the humid air), and it smells so good! I woke up with non-crazy hair. I feel like I don't need to wash my hair the next day and my scalp doesnt feel itchy dry! This conditioner is amazing! Of all the conditioners I’ve ever used (I’m in my 20’s so I’ve been through a looot of conditioners!) this one is by far the best. I don’t need a huge amount of it to get my hair untangled, and when I do brush through it I barely have any tangles at all. It’s also very gentle on my hair and the smell is light and not overpowering. So impressed with this product and very glad to have found it. I also appreciate their commitment to using good ingredients. Definitely recommend to any curly/wavy haired people looking for a great conditioner.Hannah
Okay, at first I was suspicious about this product because I really only knew Sun Bum for their sunscreen so I was a little confused seeing they did products for hair. But guys…this product is AMAZING. As someone who constantly buys products to help her curly hair, this has been a life changer. I bought this on a whim because I was like, what's the harm in another product supposedly for curly hair? Boy was I surprised!! I used to cowash because I was having such a hard time keeping my hair from getting frizzy but as a consequence my roots would get kinda greasy and sometimes my curls didn't look as hydrated as the cowash would advertise. Finallyyyyy I found a product that actually hydrates my hair, makes it look great curly, and isn't making it frizzy or puffy. The only con about this product is that I really really wish they made versions of this product in larger bottles because the conditioner tends to go quickly especially if you have long curly hair like me. Delicious! Smells so good! I bought it to control frizz in my wavy hair. I am using in conjunction with the Curls & Waves Styling Creme and it is a nice combo for soft hair. I use this as a prewash in conjunction with another brand Refresh sea salt and mineral shampoo and conditioner, as I believe I have folliculitis (acquired from a salon). I wash and conditioner my hair now only 2 times a week using luke warm water to rinse and throughout the rest of the week I only rinse my hair with water. I have been using both products for the last 3 months or so and have seen amazing results! I still have some light outbreaks like maybe once a month but I do believe my scalp is still in the healing process. Alone its gentle however since I use it in conjunction with the brand mentioned above I cannot speak to its effectiveness as a stand alone product.louisa.g
Shea moisture was a product I gravitated to when I first started my natural hair journey. Previously I had been using products will sulfates, alcohol, and other damaging substances that shouldn’t be on hair. Especially on my heat damaged and permed hair. Once I had began transitioning to a natural, I began using the coconut hibiscus shampoo and conditioner. It left my hair feeling soft and started defining my curls in a way I had never seen before. Definitely helped me learn to appreciate and take care of my hair the way I always should’ve. I recently tried this African Black Soap one and it smelled amazing!! Cleansed my scalp very well and got rid of all my product build up. Just like other Shea Moisture products, there isn’t too much of a lather, but that isn’t and issue for me. Your original formula was great! Magical, even. Why in the world would you change something that seriously exceeded all expectations? I discovered Shea Moisture 7 years ago, when my son's scalp psoriasis had become so out of control, nothing was working, & we were desperate for a solution. So I bought this product & was pleasantly surprised to see the thick plaques on his head begin to clear up after just one use. Nothing has ever worked better! Fast forward to no longer being able to find the product anywhere for quite some time, then it suddenly reappearing with slightly different labeling. So, I read the label…. & no. I am a licensed hairstylist, who pays very close attention to the ingredients in the products I use & recommend. After reading the label on this new formulation, not only will I NOT be buying it for my son, but I will no longer be recommending it to clients. I actually really like this conditioner. The first time I bought it, I didn't. I decided to give it another try and k actually really like it. I use it as a rinse out and when I "squish to condish". I feel more comfortable using this for squish to condish rather than a normal rinse out conditioner because those are not meant to be left in the hair and this one is. I do rinse this out though. I really wanted to love this product and I did in the first month of using it. I applied it in the shower and brushed through it really easily, it helped revive my waves, and I really liked the smell. Unfortunately after about a month of use I started noticing really bad dandruff at the front of my hairline, big dandruff flakes, and the nape of my neck was itch. Then I started getting this weird buildup on my hair after the shower. My hair just felt really tacky, when I tried to brush through it, it got tangled immediately because it was sticking to itself, I even noticed some white buildup on my brush. So the next time, I washed the brush, washed my hair with a clarifying shampoo, and made sure to wash out the conditioner well…really well. And it still left this really sticky gross buildup on my hair. It was almost impossible to even run my fingers through. I shampooed my hair twice with a clarifying shampoo and went back to one of my old conditioners and my hair is pretty much back to normal. There is still maybe one part that is still a little sticky/tacky so I'll have to wash it again. Maybe this works for some people, it just didn't work for me. I really like Not Your Mother's products but this particular one didn't quite make the cut. I love how they are free of alcohol, silicones, phthalates, sulfates and dyes. This can be used as a leave in conditioner, rinse out or just as a co-wash. It does enhance my curls and give some definition but my hair is so oily the next day, I have to wash it. Also, my hair seems extra tangley and dry the next day. Just remember that everybody's curls are different and so what might not work for me, might work for you.ashley.b

I purchased this product a little over a month ago. I enjoyed it initially, until I didn't! Love the scent.. however, I began to notice tons of dryness and shedding. My hair has been SUPER THICK, since I was a very young child. It's now SUPER THIN, with noticeable hair loss; just within only a few weeks time. I'm truly saddened by the outcome of using a shampoo that's supposedly geared towards people of color. Now, I have to nurse my hair back to life and pray for the best. First let me start off by saying I had no idea Melanin was in Sephora now. This is AMAZINGGGG! I’m so happy for her. Okay so since this is a black soap shampoo, expect it to be clarifying. The way I like to use it is to dilute it in an applicator bottle. I add 1oz of this shampoo and 3-4oz of water (and yes I also add a few drops of oil). I’ve been diluting my shampoos for YEARSSSS! My hair is left so so soooo soft yet clean after using it this way. (Sometimes if my hair is too dirty if I’ve gone too long before washing my hair, I won’t add any oil but I will only use 0.5oz of shampoo and dilute it for the first wash and on the second wash I’ll add oil to the née batch if that makes any sense). This shampoo is a NO for me. After 2 washes, I have residue buildup on my hair that has not washed out. The first time I used this shampoo, I clarified my hair and scalp with a baking soda/water mixture so my scalp and hair were free of residue before using this shampoo. When I washed my hair, it felt like there was a film on my hair after the first wash. I used the complete Melanin hair care line along with this. I washed my hair a second time (the next week), and my hair feels like it has a film on it (after 2 washes and multiple plain water rinses). My hair looks dull, feels very heavy, and my curls are limp. I am going to have to clarify my hair and go back to my other holy grail shampoos. I had high hopes for this shampoo because I have been following Naptural85 for years on YouTube and social media and love her hair tips. This shampoo is okay. The smell is decent. Definitely not the best shampoo that I’ve ever tried. I feel like it did the assignment. It cleaned my hair, but that was it. If you have afro hair and you’re looking for a product to detangle your hair while it’s cleansing, then this isn’t the one for you. While it doesn’t claim to be a detangling shampoo, most products that are 2 in 1 like this kind of does it on its own. I have this issue with a lot of products that are catered directly to men. 🤦🏾♂️ It’s like they strip everything from what could be a normal GOOD product just to say that it’s for men. Check When this product first arrived, the first thing I did was jump in the shower, wet my hair, and follow directions on how to use this product. I was INSTANTLY impressed. I'm so use to using a seperate conditioner and shampoo and the process taking forever.(Shampoo hair, rinse, add in conditioner, wait up to 10 minutes, then rinse) This product is not only so much easier to apply, but I happen to get the same results. I have curly/coily hair. In the winter it gets super dry like the desert! Recently I was just going to cut it off and let my bald head suffer in the cold but this product has changed the game for me. I was afraid that it will leave a very greasy, sticky layer on my hair, but it actually feels very light after you apply it to hair. It is pretty weightless and moisturising at the same time. It does reduced my hair's frizziness when I use it. That said, the moisturising effect is not too intense so if you have extremely dry hair, this might not be enough for you. But for people who has normal hair, this is perfect for daily use. Also, the cream smells so nice!! I can't speak highly enough of the benefits of castor oil. I use it for castor oil packs over the liver and gut and spleen and adrenals its very antiinflammatory and helps organs detox and recover. I found this product in 2019/20 in my local TJ Maxx and I've been purchasing it ever since. From the very first use, it melted away all MY tangles. My hair falls under the type 4 category. It makes your hair so soft with the perfect definition in your curls that you'll continue to want to touch it. Rake through your hair with your fingers or a comb, this product does the job. No snags or hang ups. It provides an incomparable amount of slip, softens the hair, and makes my hair feel stronger. It smells of Grapefruit so if you're sensitive like me you may want to take that into account but if you love tropical and citrusy fruity smells, try this out! For me, it was just ok. The consistency of the conditioner is thick and the bottle is rigid and hard to squeeze. No joke, I couldn't actually squeeze the product out unless I used BOTH hands…so I have to squeeze the conditioner on the side of my bathtub and then scoop it up afterward with my hands in order to use it. It's just terrible packaging for such a thick conditioner. It needs a pump or a bottle made of more flexible plastic. The product itself is moisturizing, for sure!
