Best Shampoo For Highlighted Brown Hair (2024 Update)

Hopefully this is a helpful review because I address some of the complaints I saw before writing this. My hair stylist suggested I use this shampoo, however because I have an extremely sensitive scalp( I even have to use steroids on my scalp a couple times a week) so I still only use Free&Clean shampoo & conditioner directly on my scalp which I wash twice because of oil build up. But then I use the Redken Blue Toning shampoo on the rest of my hair just not the scalp.. my hair is down to my butt and very thick and wavy so I use a lot of product. I've read reviews saying it doesn't lather, but honestly it lathers really well and I'm guessing they must have so much oil in their hair they haven't done a quick wash and rinse first or use too much daily product so they probably need to wash twice anyways. I have the shampoo sit on my hair for 5 minutes. During that time I rinse off the shower curtain and walls to wash away the blue (c'mon people… it will only stain if you let it sit) then I rinse out and have the conditioner sit for 5 minutes and it is NIGHT & DAY from when I used to get highlights. I started using this right after highlights and after almost 2 months my color still looks perfect without the brassy or red. I wished I had this the past 10 years because my hair has faded copper/brassy my whole life. I'm obsessed and will continue using on all my hair and just avoiding the scalp! i was recommended this by chris wenzel on youtube, hes a pro hair stylist. i have more straight than wavy, frizzy, oily scalp and very dry ends with some breakage (from permanent hair coloring) i used this 4 times. i shower every 4 days. in those weeks i had so much hair loss. clumps in the shower, clumps out of the shower. i was noticing tons of fallen hairs everywhere! i didnt change anything in my routine beside this shampoo. i was freaking out! my scalp was burning and itchy, but my hair looked amazing! i was so sad i couldnt use it anymore. i didnt have anymore salon brand shampoos in my house. only green apple suave (guest bathroom backup) and my hair fall instantly stopped! after a week of washing with suave my hair was back to a few hairs falling a day.(normal) im sorry redken.. i will stick to only your conditioners. frizz dismiss is amazing.dre

I bought previous version of this shampoo and I loved it very much. It was perfect for me. New formula is not the same, unfortunately. I have thin natural hair which gets dirty every day, so I wash it every morning. With previous formula of this shampoo I could wash my hair once per two days and it really gave me a little volume. But now I don't get any kind of volume, my hair is flat. I use this shampoo with Redken Volume conditioner and my hair don't feel any volume at all. Also my hair gets greasy by the end of a day. This product is very concentrated, lathers great, smells amazing. But doesn't work for my hair type. If you have normal or dry hair, probably, you will like the results.Helga

I decided to try out this combo shampoo and conditioner and upon first and second use I was pretty impressed. I used them both the day after a partial highlight and found that it kept my hair light and soft which can be hard to accomplish the day after a highlight. Sometimes my hair would come out of the first at home wash fluffy and a little dry. With the product itself I'm happy with, however here are some issues: 1. If you keep the bottle standing upright the product can be hard to get to the top. Even shaking it multiple times only a portion of it gets comes to the cap. I found that I had to keep it sitting upside down in order not to sit in the shower shaking it for a minute or two. 2. If you keep the bottle upside down the product comes out of the cap from the back and the sides. Also, when you use it normally, a lot of the product gets caught in the cap when you open and close it. Outside of the issue with the packaging and the product being a little hard to get to the top, it's one that I would buy again and keep in the rotation.Ashley

With this oil you're basically just paying for expensive smelling silicone. No joke, in my hands it basically just feels like lubricant. Takes forever to wipe off my hands, can't imagine how much it's gunking up my hair. It does smell really nice, and it does smooth the hair down, but I don't believe it's helping make the hair healthier at all in the long run and might even be detrimental for dry curls like mine. 1 star for smell, 1 for absorption. I switched to Olaplex oil and like it much more, the smells are also pretty similar.jaxx612

I love using purple shampoos to keep my blonde bright between salon visits. I was gifted this product for free from the brand in exchange for my honest review. This product definitely helped brighten but I found it a little drying the first couple tries. I paired it with a heavier hair mask in other washes and that helped a little. I loved them scent of this, it lasted on my hair for a while and was nice a clean smelling. Overall a decent purple shampoo and I'd buy this line again.courtyyyy

I used to use ShiKai Color Reflect Platinum shampoo all the time, then they added a little purple coloring (D&C Violet #2) to the formula. Great news if you have grey, silver, or platinum hair, perhaps not so great if you have pure white hair, as I do. If you have white hair but it has a tendency to yellow due to local water conditions, this will help. In my case, my hair stays white by itself, and too-frequent use of this product gave me a bit of purple tinge. I switched to using their daily shampoo, and still use the ShiKai Color Reflect conditioner, which does NOT have any artificial coloring. The color-reflecting natural plant extracts in this product line makes one's hair look like a) one has been to a very expensive salon and b) one must have been eating a perfect, healthy diet. I've been using this shampoo for years. The color boost was nice, and more importantly, my hair looked perfectly shiny and bouncy. Whenever I tried another brand, I would just go back to this one, since nothing compared. Unfortunately, in the last couple of months, Shikai changed both it's formula and it's packaging. The new formula is terrible. My hair still feels dirty after I use it, and by the end of the day, my straight hair looks stringy and greasy. I'm so sad! Shikai, please bring back the old formula! I have used Shakai products for about eight years. In my 60's with strawberry blond hair I had tried lots of products to temporarily cover the gray without having an artificial look. I have introduced several hair dressers to the product line. The products are all natural, without animal testing. I use a cleansing shampoo first to remove all product and environmental soils and then shampoo the second time with Shakai leaving it on while I shower. Hairdressers have remarked that my color looks natural and have asked what I do. I now take the shampoo when I get my hair cut and ask the stylist to use it. I get great results, and don't have to worry about roots. Cost is reasonable and setting it up with Vitacost's Set and Save, I never have to worry about running out.Jenni16

This will remain my favorite purple shampoo! I love this stuff. I have medium/light(ish) blonde hair that tends to get brassy quick. I read the reviews on Amazon first before purchasing and fell in love. This shampoo is a deep deep purple, and it will stain your hands if you don't rinse them off. First hand experience here *pun intended* The smell of it wasn't gross like some other brands (looking at you Clairol Shimmer Lights). It actually will turn your hair ashy! I left this stuff on for ten minutes and I had that beautiful ash (almost purple tone) to it, which I don't mind. Less time left on, you'll still see results. I plan on purchasing this again, because this one is hands down the best for my thick processed blonde hair.christina.k

This shampoo is amazing. Ive recently bleached my own hair and then had highlights and still had a very yellow colour due to my hair being box dyed brown for so long. I tried toners I tried other purple shampoos but nothing worked. I tried this and the first time the difference was amazing. I used it again yesterday and its even better. My hair is no longer yellow. It does dry hair up like most of these things but Ive been going through a process with other well known repairing products which means Its cancelling out the dryness from using this. The product is very purple And like others say it does stain your hands but Ive found after standing in the shower while the shampoo is on I dont really notice it on my hands anymore once Im done. I try to leave on for about 5 minutes but havent timed it so not sure. Put it this way it doesnt need long. No need to walk around the house for an hour wrapper in cling film to let it process. I primarily bought this brush set for metal ball eye cream applicator but I wound up loving all of the brushes in the set too. These were brushes that I never thought that I needed and wouldn’t use…but I was wrong. The lip scrub brush is amazing at getting the job done without getting the “goopy fingerâ€� from greasy scrubs. The dry brush is the perfect texture for light exfoliation, and doesn’t redden or irritate sensitive skin. The eye cream applicator feels amazing on tired, puffy eyes. I use the mask brush for primer application and I love how evenly it spreads the product. All of the brushes and the eye tool hold up to cleaning exceptionally well. I purchased this because of great reviews online. I was so skeptical and scared trying any products on my scalp due to psoriasis. My grey hair started to show up but because of my scalp disease, was so hesitant coloring or even using harsh shampoo. But because of such great reviews, I tried it and oh boy! First impression, it made my hair soft, silky and smells really really good! It darkens my grey to white hairs. Of course it will not make it turn brown nor black because it is not even a permanent color. The mere fact that it dis not made my scalp itchy is plus 100! I highly recommend this!lyn.c

I just got this shampoo, conditioner & the brilliant brunette color gloss, hoping it would help my hair color so I wouldn't have to color my hair. I just have a few gray hairs right now. I got it yesterday at our local store & used it last night before bed. I really liked all the products. When I dried my hair I wasn't sure how much of the gray it covered but this morning when I looked at my hair, wow it looked SO much better! It kind of turned the few gray hairs I had, like a light brown. It looks like it is highlighted! I read somewhere that it gets better on covering grays with every wash & treatment. I have been using this shampoo for the last few months. Not only does it give exceptional deep multi tone coverage , it seems to bring out the highlights in my hair. I also have grey hair only around my face and was tired of permanently dying my hair. You cannot tell that I have any grey! It seems to both cover them and the few which are resistant actually look a bit dirty blonde. I do keep the shampoo on my head the entire time I bathe and lather it in first at the facial hairline where the grey is located and work back the lather. I use a natural home made conditioner 30 minutes before washing my hair so I have no need to use any conditioner after rinsing my hair (which I begin wetting my hair in hot water before shampooing and then rinse the shampoo in warm water briefly, ending with cold water). This shampoo gives my hair exceptional volume, always looks healthy. shiny, good multi toned color and beauty. I just ordered 3 tubes via Internet bc my local store ran out.Julia

The shampoo seriously smells so good, and is a gorgeous rich dark blue color with more of a liquid consistency. I read reviews about it being messy and difficult to clean up, but I have been using it in the shower and followed instructions and have not had any issues at all (no blue stains on the tub, shower curtain, or my hands). My hair is soft, smooth, shiny, and the color just looks more rich and vibrant. My hair is natural, but these products are meant for natural or color-treated hair which I think is cool. I also feel like the price is fair for the amount of product you get. Overall, I’m loving this shampoo and I would highly recommend them for all my brunette friends! I used this shampoo with the conditioner after my stylist friend told me to try a blue shampoo. I have naturally medium brown hair. After having highlights over the summer for the first time ever I had my hair dyed back to the original brown. I used only this shampoo and conditioner all summer. I had felt like my hair was extremely dry all summer but assumed it was the highlights. However my hair was so dry and Dana fed it wouldn't take the dye!!!! I was shocked as I've always taken great care of my hair. I continued to use this set for another month and then randomly used some of my old stuff and my hair felt nicer afterward. I stopped using this entirely and my hair is finally starting to improve in texture but the dried out damaged is already pretty bad.JH

So i didn’t actually use this. My stylist had told me to use blue shampoo to keep my brunette highlights from turning brassy. I initially brought a salon brand but ended up staining my tub/shower completely Smurf color and returned it. It was ridiculously pigmented. So I saw this in store and thought ‘hey! A cheaper version, maybe it will work just as well and maybe it’s not so pigmented.’ I was in a hurry so I didn’t even think about reading the label. The 2nd and 3rd ingredients listed on this shampoo are SLS/SLES. Isn’t that the whole purpose of the shampoo to help maintain your color? Why are sulfates basically the number one ingredients? I was also told to stay away from these because they cause color fade quicker….. maybe they work? In any case, I ended up returning. 🙁Bune3

This product is wonderful! I have thick, dry hair that I color every 4-6 weeks. I haven't been able to find a line of products to help my hair. With other products my color faded but not with this! My brunette color is shiny, soft, manageable, and this really brings out the highlights! One thing that I absolute love is I don't need to use as much conditioner as other products! (I should preface this by saying I'm a longtime WEN user.) I bought this because I just had my hair colored and wanted it to help with color retention. Well, when I opened the shampoo and put it on my hair and it smelled delightful and then instantly, I could feel that my hair felt like straw! I couldn't get out of my hair fast enough… I immediately used the Bamboo conditioner and my hair felt a little better but I knew it wasn't right. I rinsed and got out of the shower. My hair was so dry and felt horrible, I used a ton of It's a 10 leave in conditioner, which helped. The next day in the shower, I used my regular cleaning conditioner from Wen and my hair felt it's normal soft self. I will never use this again. 2 stars for the great smellbobbi.s

The smell is pleasant but not my favorite, I do think it’s a product for those who are dry and could make your hair look oily if your hair tends to run that way. My hair felt okay after washing with this shampoo conditioner, though on the dryer side. However, I couldn’t get over the smell. I can’t believe how many people are saying it smells great in the reviews. It me, it’s an overwhelming smell of old man aftershave, but like, the kind you find shoved all the way at the back of your grandfathers medicine cabinet because even he didn’t like it. The scent maybe isn’t bad on a mature gent, but it’s not what I want my hair to smell like. Every time I’d turn my head, a cloud of aftershave odor wafted around me. I just bought a tube of your Brilliant Brunette shampoo at Walmart. Although I love the bigger size, the packaging in particular the cap is poor. Got home aha found the cap had broken off and made a big mess of shampoo that leaked out in the bag. John Frieda needs to put plastic seals on the caps off their shampoo and conditioner products to prevent this from happening! I wanted to try blue toning shampoo and bought the trial sizes to give this a shot. I have always used purple and saw very little results. I read the directions very quickly, I didn't use gloves and I used a white towel to try my hair. I didn't even think of the blue color that was deposited into my hair I used this product for the first time yesterday and all I can say is WOW! I did see blue everywhere but it didn't stain my shower, hands, nails or my towels. My highlights looked brighter and I think I even saw more of them and I was impressed with just one use. The smell was nice but I thought it was too strong but once you dry your hair the smell disappears. Not sure if I will use this shampoo more than maybe once or twice a week because I don't want to darken my highlight I just want to see less brass and red. If you are hesitant to try this product because of the blue color you could use gloves and I would definitely use it in the shower so that the product washes out once it hits the floor you could even keep a brush in your shower if you want to make sure no blue residue lingers behind. All toning shampoos have color the purple once I used before does and I never had an issue. Everyone's experience is different but I would definitely give this product a try.Tophersmom

I haven't changed anything in my hair care routine except this. The first time I used it, meh it did the job and made my hair a lot brighter. Mind you I only use this twice a month because purple shampoo is so harsh. The second time I used this, HOLY DRYNESS. It literally sucked every bit of moisture out of my hair and turned my hair silver, which was fine, but I looked like a hag due to the frizz. I've never experienced such harshness from a product. I've had to completely reset my hair by not putting any heat or this shampoo on my hair for a month. It ruined my hair for my graduation and I couldn't be anymore disappointed in this product. Not to mention it doesn't lather at all and I felt like I had to use a ton of it to clean my hair. This product really does reverse brassy tones, but it isn't worth sucking all the moisture out of your hair.Anamolly

This shampoo from Redken smells amazing. To me it smells like a soft cologne scent. This shampoo looks so cool..it is purple. The product felt soft on my hands and in my hair. It does say to appy wearing gloves but I did not wear gloves. The shampoo did not stain my hands. My hair is very yellow blonde and very warm tone and this shampoo did work. After I blowed dried my hair I could see that my hair was a bit more cooler blonde and the yellow and brassiness was tone downed. I'm giving this a 4 instead of a 5 because I wish when washing my hair the shampoo foamed more. It did not create that soapy shampoo feeling and that kinda made me use more product because I wanted to make sure I got my hair cleaned and had the shampoo everywhere. I also wished this shampoo was vegan but I dont believe it is. Redken does offer some vegan products though. Overall I'm really pleased with this shampoo and will continue to use it.danielle .l

I love this line. After pregnancy my hair began thinning and looking less dead. I decided to go to my hairstylist and touch up my highlights for a confidence boost. Unfortunately I was not happy with how blonde it looked. I am a natural brunette and I want to be as low maintenance as possible. I was not ready to go back to the salon to dye my hair yet again. So I decided to pick up this product and I’m so glad that I did! It obviously did not dye my hair, but it brought out deeper tones which is exactly what I wanted! I remember "splurging" on this set when I was in college and feeling so boujie. I'm pretty sure I spent $15 each on the shampoo and conditioner when I was in Target last month so it's doubled in price since college… I like it enough to use it up but I won't buy again. My hair is fine and gets greasy looking fast. I also like to shower at night so I need a shampoo and conditioner that will still leave my hair looking fresh in the morning and I feel like my hair looks like day 2 hair by EOD if I wash with these the night before. I also needed to use a lot more product that I remembered. For that reason I'd rather pay $30 each for the Ouai Shampoo and Conditioner for fine hair.kay.b

Using once a week on my medium brown hair, I am trying to grow out semi permanent wella 6/73 which is very warm back to my natural more ash brown. Can definitely see a subtle difference in the tone, more than I had expected to see from the shampoo. Would recommend for toning as it does not deposit dye or darken the hair but not if you are after dramatic results.Anonymous

I was a little clueless at buying purple/blue shampoo as I have brown hair but with a blonde ombré, but this stuff is incredible my ends look incredible after every use. Still look salon fresh instead of dull and brassy. Will definitely keep buying this product in future. I searched online for the best purple shampoo for brown hair and this and the matrix shampoo where and the top of the list and I can see why.Incredible

My hair is about 90% gray with Wella Colorcharm 9NG all over. I’ve tried about four or five different color conditioners; each one comes out pretty blotchy and washes out so quickly.This is the only color shampoo I’ve ever tried and it sounded a little weird but it is absolutely perfect. Since I have various shades of blonde, the color takes differently but beautifully. Some strands are pink some areas are a little rose gold.The color doesn’t seep onto pillows, towels (I even use a white towel), or clothes and washes out gradually and beautifully. I use this about once a week to keep a light blush pink on my hair. Of course you can use it more and get more depth of color. I have natural blond hair that has a lot of natural dimension and highlights in it. However, like many women, my hair color has changed a bit after two kids, and doesn't pop the way it used to. Not to mention, I'm already starting to find a couple of white hairs here and there at 33, so I needed something that was going to tone my hair to make it a more vibrant cool toned color again that I had pre kids.I decided to try this out. Despite being for color treated grey/blonde I found it actually did a good job at lightening and brightening my natural hair, removing any of the lackluster yellow that's come into my hair since I had my kids. I thoroughly lathered throughout my entire hair and left it on for about 10 minutes just to see what it could do on natural hair. While it didn't have as drastic results as it would have on color treated hair, it definitely did the trick in lightening and brightening my natural locks and returning it to the more cool toned lighter blond that I had pre kids. It definitely took out a lot of the yellow tones which was huge to me.I now do it once a week just to keep up the slight color change. Its subtle and soft, but definitely worth the purchase. The product works great! I have natural black hair and bleached it once to make it vibrant red. I wash my hair daily, so the color faded pretty quick. I don’t want to go to hair salon again, so I randomly searched it on amazon to find this. I decided to give a try, and after several weeks, I found it very convenient to remain my hair color in a fairly bright red hue evenly. The color remains for 2~3 wash.However, I’m not giving it five stars because:Instead of using it like my normal shampoo, I need to squeeze 3 palms of the product to apply on my hair to reach the color change shown in my photos. I tried using a small amount and imagined the product staying on my hair longer would let the color soak in, but it didn’t work much. If you have long hair, you probably will run out of this very fast. It also dries my hair after rinsing it off, but could be solved with conditioner once.Anyway if you plan to use this, I recommend to apply a generous amount of it on your hair, and massage it through hair to have the even color, but not making a lot of foams. After waiting for a few mins, rinse it off and use conditioner once or twice under warm water since a steaming hot shower washes the new applied color off easily.Stephanie L.

I like the rest of their line. Since I occasionally bleach and dye my hair.I was looking into something to use for that too. The purple shampoo smells good just like the rest of the line. Using this on my hair after using chemicals I can tell it's pretty gentle and seems to strengthen it a bit. Usually my hair fades pretty quickly, esp from the shampoo but this has helped me maintain my color. Paired with the conditioner, this really works well.Sab

I use this shampoo in conjunction with the Colorharmony conditioner to keep my silver hair sparkling. Together they remove any yellow undertones that I have in my hair. I also love the way my hair feels after using this shampoo. I had tried other purple shampoos and they were very drying to my hair. This shampoo actually leaves my hair feeling conditioned and very soft. I'd recommend this product to anyone wanting to remove a yellow tint from their hair.Pam15042

No parabens, no sulfates, vegan. I have silver hair and this is the 3rd brand of purple shampoo I have tried. Lathers well, is REALLY dark purple, cleans and rinses well. I can't recall what it smells like, which is a good thing. The pump bottle is a plus too! This may be coincidental, but I got 3 complements on my hair the week I started using it. Excellent quality toning! My hair color looked so good, the last time I had my roots highlighted at the salon, I asked my stylist what she used. She told me it was this shampoo. It was not for sale at the salon, so I looked for it online. The shampoo has a nice floral fragrance and does not dry out the hair. It also does not turn the hair a gray ashy tone. It creates a more bright pearly blonde. My hair is fine and very long, natural dark blonde mixed with light pale blonde highlights. Some purple shampoos have a tendency to darken my natural dark blonde hair and lighten only the highlights, this shampoo did not do that. It creates an overall toned look. I purchased the matching toning conditioner, "BELFAST". I highly recommend it to complete the overall look, moisturize the hair and soften any tangles. There is only one complaint, the cap on the shampoo bottle has a tendency to collect water and when it mixes with the shampoo, it dribbles like purple watercolor paint down the sides of the bottle. I remove the cap when I use the shampoo to avoid this issue.SaraBee

I've been using the purple shampoo for 6 year's and Pulp Riot is the best purple shampoo in the market by far! Other purple shampoos make my hair dry and don't give me that silver tone that I like and they smell really bad. Pulp Riot leaves my hair silky silvery and don't smell! Just remember it's concentrated so u need a very small amount! I use regular shampoo every time I wash my hair and every two weeks I use the purple shampoo and leave it on my hair for less than a minute and rinse! Don't use purple shampoo like u would regular shampoo.soussan

The smell is divine, okay let's just get that out of the way first! It's amazing. I have tried over 30 toning shampoos and treatments, this is my favorite. It's super potent, so if you're looking to eliminate brass, consider it done. Just know, it's extremely pigmented. If you have very little brassiness, do NOT leave this on for longer than about 60 seconds. That's all it will take. I personally love that silver/lavender look, so I'll keep it on for about 5 minutes and have mermaid hair. 🙂kristen.f

So far the best Purple Shampoo I've found. I have not used it long but My hair shines and actually feels thicker and softer. It hasn't really taken out all my brassiness yet but maybe after a few more uses it will. I am transitioning from medium brown colored treated hair to my natural white/grey hair that I'm letting grow out. It is very fine so my hairdresser didn't want to bleach it anymore for fear of damaging it more to get the orange and yellow tone out of it. She just highlighted down to blendable with my natural white/grey hair. That is probably why not all the brassiness is coming out with the Purple Shampoo. This is a top of the line Shampoo and I have the Silver Lining Butter Masque too, which I love and recommend everyone to try if you are transiting to white/grey hair like me. I use wake-up-call line and have been very impressed with the fullness, softness, and condition of my hair. I gave the shampoo and conditioner 5 stars. I am disappointed in Silver Lining shampoo. It dried my hair out making it full of static. It really didn't brighten my silver hair. I really like Better not Younger products and have bought several, this one just doesn't work for me. Silver tresses looking kinda brassy or yellow? This product will take the yellow away and leave behind a healthy, shiny, ready to style head of hair. I am sometimes wary of bluing shampoo because some can leave that blue haired lady look but this one no. I leave mine on 10 minutes once every two weeks in place of normal shampoo and wala great gray hair. As a precaution if you have processed or bleached hair do a test first. This can just like other violet and blue based products become trapped in porous areas leaving a not so nice blotchy mess. It comes out but why risk it. Davines is a wonderful haircare company with an array of products to help with just about all hair concerns. Wonderful. One bottle of this should last over a year easily if used correctly. I recently just purchased this shampoo since I didn’t have a toning product for my blonde hair. First off, I really liked how heavy and cute the packaging was. When I opened it, the smell is not unpleasant but not something I would typically gravitate towards to. It’s something you quickly get used to as you use it more and more. The lather was something really luxurious as it instantly made my slightly dry and brassy hair feel a lot softer! By the end of my wash, I noticed a huge difference in the tone of my hair! The only concern I had with this product was the amount of product for the price, since I have insanely thick hair but even then the product has lasted me about a month and a week.ana.o

To preface. I'm a 25 female. Natural light brown hair, bleached low maintenance blonde. Thick wavy frizzy hair that reaches the lower bottom of my back. Prone to split ends and breakage at the bottom of my hair. No extensions. I wanted to add this so people with similar hair types can relate. So to start, I'm so torn on this shampoo… I tried it for 3 weeks and I do like that this shampoo and conditioner cuts down on my overall frizz and made my hair so much smoother and less likely to tangle which is exactly what I was looking for. BUT there is some things about this shampoo I just can't ignore. First off the smell, I just can't get past it. It reminds me of a menthol cigarette. It just smells sooo minty and lingers after washing. Some people may not mind the smell but if my shampoo is going to linger, I'd prefer it to smell like something other than strong mint and almost a tea tree smell. Second, when the conditioner sets for a couple minutes before rinsing out I've noticed that my back and neck where the product has been laying in my hair will get very cold and tingly. Almost like how when you have a breath mint you get the same effect in your mouth but it's on your body this time. This alone made me decide not to repurchase. I like my shower water very warm and I found myself constantly turning the heat up because while the conditioner set I would get extremely cold from the tingly feeling. It can be overwhelming sometimes and linger even after washing the area thoroughly and drying off. I would assume if this was a shampoo and conditioner without the minty smell that I was having an allergic reaction to it but since it has that smell I just really don't know if the tingle is intended or not. And lastly, I've noticed a lot of small breakage at the top of my hair by my scalp. I'm not prone to breakage that high and only notice it after a fresh bleach every once and a while although it is usually very rare for me. I should note that it has been 3 months since my last bleach since I am a low maintenance blonde and I was not using this product during my last bleach. I also take a lot measures to protect my hair that could be the cause of breakage that high. So at this point only thing I've changed is this shampoo and conditioner. I've decided not to finish the rest of the bottle due to concerns about further breakage. This is just my experience. Some people seem to love it but it's a no from me. I hope this helps some people on the fence after reading conflicting reviews. I've switched to Joyco kpac reconstructing shampoo that has also given me the same desirable results so far with a much better smell, no breakage, and most importantly no tingly feeling on by skin.Lexi

I saw the hair loss reviews but if the hair is coming out at the follicle then that is definitely health related not from a shampoo. Shampoo cannot cause hair loss unless maybe a severe reaction to the scalp and there's swelling and for whatever reason the follicle comes out with it but that is highly unlikely. But anyways back to my review lol this is the most hydrating gentle shampoo I've ever used it's perfect! It cleans my hair and makes my scalp feel so refreshed but my hair is detangled and moisturized! And the conditioner is so creamy and moisturizing! The scents for both are so relaxing to me and my hair and scalp are taken care of with this set of shampoo and conditioner. my hair is so soft, shiny and perfectly moisturized. Definitely for medium to thick hair types unless you have finer very porous hair then I think you'd like it. Definitely one I can rely on and will repurchase but I already got the liters so guess I'll be repurchasing after that lolHairlover

This Eva NYC Brass to Sass shampoo left my hair silky smooth, with a radiant shine and improved the tone of my brassy, dull strands. I'm very impressed with how much healthier my hair looks after washing with the Brass to Sass shampoo. It is wonderful to use a product that naturally improves the color of my hair. After just one wash, the tone appears much more even. After several applications, I can see a drastic improvement in the overall softness, shine, and color of my hair. I also LOVE the smell of this Eva NYC shampoo. Also, the consistency of the shampoo allows for a thorough application and it easily rinses out. I was surprised by how blue the shampoo is, I thought it would stain my skin/scalp, but it did not. As long as you rinse thoroughly there will be no blue residue left behind. I'm a natural brunette with a lot of variation in my hair colour. My baby hairs come in nearly blonde, and sunlight bleaches the ends of my brown hair to a lighter, brassy hue. I decided to try a free sample of Eva NYC "Brass To Sass" Shampoo and Conditioner in the hopes that it would bring out some rich chocolate tones and give my 'do a little more of an even complexion, so to speak. First of all, this stuff is HIGHLY pigmented, so make sure you wash your hands thoroughly after applying or wear gloves! It will leave blue stains on your bathtub, shower, and towels if you're not careful. That didn't really put me off, as it told me the product contains some strong toning ingredients. My second observation is that this actually smells really good! My hair smelt great after using. Finally, the shampoo is thick and sudsy, working up a satisfying lather. As far as results go, my review is mixed. I can't say I saw a visible difference after the few uses that came in my free sample, but not a lot of colour gets through my dark brown hair. If anything, it towned down the brassiness in my blonde baby hairs more than my brunette strands! That being said, my hair did feel really soft and looked lustrous after using the combined Brass To Sass Shampoo & Conditioner system. I would be interested in seeing how this looks after long-term use. I also imagine it would work wonders for somebody with lighter brown hair! As for the shampoo by itself, I would say it did give my hands that rubbery sort of feel when a cleanser strips a little too much oil, however after applying the conditioner, my hair felt fine. I would caution against using the shampoo alone as it may be a little too drying. I did feel that it gave me a good deep clean, however! I would recommend this product to someone with light to medium brown hair who is not looking to achieve dramatic results. The subtle cool tones these Eva NYC products lend your hair are less noticeable for us dark brunettes. If it were not so pigmented (and thus messy) for an everyday shampoo otherwise, I would still recommend it for the shine and strength it lends your hair! You will leave the shower feeling and smelling like you've visited a salon. Thank you PINCHme for sending me a free sample of Eva NYC "Brass to Sass BRUNETTE SHAMPOO". I was eager to try out this new product due to the hype online. Applying the Brass to Sass shampoo to my dampened hair was interesting to say the least. The product is this beautiful pearly blue color with a silky texture that glides on smooth and almost feels like it locks onto the strands of your hair. I am not going to lie, it took some time shampooing it out of my long thick hair and you will know if you didn't get it all out as it will show blue on your hairline! The blue color was hard to remove from my hands and nails as I had to lather them up a few times. I presume the combination of water pressure, my thick long hair and the consistency of the shampoo is what made it more work for me to rinse away. The outcome is what did it for me! I learned to work with the product better after each use and found it enhanced my color quite a bit and gave it that "just walked out of the salon" shine. Overall positive experience as the results were comparable to other similar products out there.rachel_ca_jgstd

I am nearly at the bottom of the bottle, so I am ready to comment. This one is not working for me. It is probably due to the texture of my hair – it is a bit past shoulder length, fine/medium hair. Not super fine, but I think you might get the idea. After I apply soap, and gently wash hair, and rinse out – my hair is a matted mess while in the shower. I have to add conditioner, just to be able to rinse the soap out of my hair properly. The two conditioners that I used, that saved me – are both offered by Vitacost: Andalou Naturals Detangling spray and 2Chic Ultra Sleek Conditioner by Giovanni. I love the Andalou spray, so I will try their shampoo. Giving this 2 stars, as this Shikai shampoo, may be ok for super short hair, or hair needing a 'clarifying' shampoo, to remove heavy sports sweat/dirt, gels & other hair products. Might just be me, but it feels as though it 'strips' hair.Mich

When I purchased Shikai Shampoo I had hair that was colored. That was about a year and a half ago. Now it's my natural color but this shampoo is still doing a good cleansing job and leaves my hair manageable. I like that there no scent, it lathers really well and a nickel size amount is all I need. I would recommend this product.NinaK

This used to be my favorite conditioner WHEN IT HAD AMLA, for fine wavy hair and a difficult scalp and as a reward for my loyalty and others' they changed the AMLA to borage without announcement. I didn't figure it out by label reading, but by the CHANGE IN WHAT IT DID TO MY HAIR – from lovely, fuss-free hair and calm scalp to cruddy scalp like all the others and nothing but bad hair days.
