20 Best Vacuum Cleaner For Bad Back (Feb 2023 Update)

I am a highly experienced electronic repair technician. I just rebuilt a Shark Rotator Professional lift-away vacuum. Of course users fail to replace or clean all three filters causing loss of suction. Cleaning these with warm water and dawn dish soap works best. The unit claims to have thermal monitoring protection on the brush roll base and its design is causing the complaints of failure to work on carpeting in consumer homes. There is no thermal sensor. It uses a D.C. motor to a circuit board where a series low ohm current drop resistor exists. When the motor is slowed , thwe motor draws more current which lowers the resistence in the moter resistor series circuit causing increased voltage drop on the resistor triggering the circuit and activating the motors disconnect relay turning off motor. Although it does much to protect the motor in case of armature freezing with current applied. It makes the consumer unhappy because they cant vacuum carpets as they expect to paying almost 400 dollars for this nice vacuum. The fast fix is simply taking a soldering iron and lifting on side of the feed back silicon diode and reassembling unit. Now you will find the brush roll attachment actually works and does an awesome cleaning job on any carpet. Be sure to use caution and not pick up things that will jam the brush roller and break the belt. If this happens please turn off vacuum unplug and remove obstruction from brush roller. Then plug back in and finish vacuuming. I hope this helps others, mine is now issue less and working awesome.MissTiffany2025

Okay, this vacuum cleaner is actually FUN to run! It’s lightweight and very flexible. The long wand makes getting corners, cracks and crevices a breeze. Only drawback is the base will tip over if you stretch the hose too far, so keep an eye on it as you use the wand. Cleaning stairs is easy with the “Lift Away” feature. The NV501 has strong suction and durability. Do your regular maintenance as other reviews have mentioned, and store it properly. It’s super easy to take apart when needed. I accidentally sucked up a microfiber cloth once, but was able to open the hose at the right spot and pull the cloth right out. We’ve had our NV501 for almost a decade and still no problems. Have purchased this particular model as gifts for friends and family. Highly recommended.DB

I’ve had this model for about 5 years and yes occasionally you’ll have to cut some hair off the powdered brush if you have long hair or girls around or just heavy traffic I guess but that takes literally 20 seconds. Grab a pair of scissors, cut the hair and pull it out. Any vacuum with a brush is going to eventually wrap up hair! The vacuum has one killer motor, it cleans like nothing I’ve ever seen. I’m continuously impressed by the vast amount of dander, dust, and allergens it grabs every single time! I love how the handle comes off to clean small areas such as my couch cushions, behind furniture, etc. (I have this model which cane with ALL the attachments so I may have paid a bit more but it was definitely worth it) the only other difference is the colors. Mine has dark blue where the red is shown. I absolutely love how I can detach the base when going up stairs as shown in the photo. I don’t use the tiny “car part cleaners” which also came with the bulk of attachments but I guess it’s there if I were to ever need it. My fav attachment is the smaller roller brush that literally eats every cat hair off my dining room chairs and wherever else I need it. Anyway I suppose I could go on but you get my drift. By the way of course after awhile the vacuum will accumulate dust around the base and hose (I’ve seen someone post photos here of their dirty vacuum lol) but it’s a vacuum! It’s going to get dirty! My last thought pertains to the newest model I believe, the NV1000 with the “self cleaning brush” or double brush very bulky looking one. Although I haven’t used it, I personally don’t think it is going to sell much in the end. I say that with regards to the current reviews and complaints along with the marketing aspect in mind. What I conclude is just logical: once again as long as there is a revolving brush or in this case 2 rolling brushes, in time there WILL BE a hair issue as long as there are women, girls, and pets around. I was a bit worried with so many negative reviews, but I love this vacuum. It is so light and easy to carry around. It picks up everything as long as you frequently empty the filter. I also take a can of compressed air to blow the filter clean from the inside out. It is well made, and all the parts fit well. I like the floor cleaner for picking up pet hair because it has no rollers where the hair gets tangled. The blue color is beautiful, and the unit leans against the wall without falling over. The cord could be a bit longer, but I have a lot of outlets, so no problem. I am very happy with the purchase. The price was very reasonable.Nancy

Ordered this bundle for such a great deal! Unfortunately, the item was delivered to the wrong address by FedEx. Totally not Hoover's fault. They re-shipped another bundle to me, and it worked out well the second time. I love these vacuums! They do a great job on our hardwoods and rugs and carpet. Our two year old loves to help vacuum too – that's how light the stick vacuum is! Being cordless is such a plus!!! Only wish that the batteries weren't so expensive, but that's not a huge deal. We purchased one extra battery just so both the handheld and stick have their own batteries. I will say that the handheld is far inferior to the stick, but it works for what we need (to do the stairs and our cars) – just have to go over the same areas multiple times, as the suction isn't stellar. I bought this cordless vac because I like any conveniences I can get when it comes to house work. I use my floor cleaners more often when cordless. I can glady skip wrapping/unwrapping, plugging/unplugging cords in and out of electrical outlets from room to room. I've been happy with this cordless since I got it last July (not quite one year old). It was an upgrade overall from what I had. However the hose got a hole in it not about 6-7 months in. Not from anything I could figure out. I duct taped it and after a second hole, I contacted the Manufacturer, since it's still within a 3 year warranty. They said the hose is not made anymore – already out of making the parts??? They will replace it — okay, — but I have to mail the whole vac back on my dime. They will pay for the shipment of the new unit. Which may be kinda fair, but it's too soon for this type of episode with a not quite a year old vacuum. Since the parts are not being made – there's no commitment to this product by the mfr. I did not buy at this store, but thought I would let someone know if considering — please don't do it.Chickee

I was going back and forth between this and the shark navigator cordless. They seemed pretty even on reviews. I mostly decided on this because it's was on sale on the Hoover website! I had to wait a little longer to get it then I would from other sites(about 5 days from the day I ordered it) but it was worth the price difference for sure. I was worried about it as I have 4 dogs. A great dane(high shedder short hair), a Mini Aussie( How shedder clumpy hair), a King Shepherd(high shedder clumpy long hair) and a Cheweenie(high shedder short hair. I also have a maine coon cat. So, I essentially have lots of hair everywhere, all the time. I do NOT know how this performs on carpers because I bought it for my wood floors( bathrooms(2), hallway, entryway, dining room, and kitchen.) So far it has worked great for me. I have had ZERO clog issues despite the amount of hair it has to pick up and I have been able to vacuum all the above mentioned rooms in one swoop without the battery going dead. It picks everything up easily. I actually accidentally sucked up a good size piece of paper today and really though it would cause my first clog, but atlas it didn't. So far this vacuum is performing perfectly for me. I think the only downside I can think of as of now is the fact that a replacement battery is 100$. However, there are off brand batteries other places that are compatible with this vacuum for half the price, and the reviews on them state that they actually work better than the original hoover battery… So, I will probably just go that route whenever I need a new battery. I've been using this product for a little over a month. My first initial reaction was that this product is just okay. A few weeks later my feelings haven't changed. First thing I noticed was that the battery life isn't great. On regular mode I can get the entire house (minus one carpeted room that's about 120 sqft or so) vacuumed and still have a some battery life left. Our house is about 1500 sqft. What I really dislike is that on the max suction mode the battery lasts about seven to 10 minutes on a full charge. I understand that it is high battery usage but on heavy cleaning and dusting days this is frustrating. After a regular vacuuming session I have to wait another five hours for this thing to fully charge just to use it another few minutes in order to get dusting done which is extremely inconvenient. If Dyson would have made it with the option to work while on the charger / still plugged in it would have made ALL of the difference. I haven't used it on the one room in our house that is carpeted and I honestly don't know if that is even possible with any of the connections. It didn't come with a user manual like all other products electronic products that I have purchased. It did have a sheet that gave you a link to an online user manual but I am more of a paper in my face type of person. I have having to click through links to find what I need. It does come with quite a few connectible pieces. I don't really know what the difference between a few of them are or what they're even called but I haven't had any issues using them so no complaints with those. The item itself is extremely convenient and easy to use. I REALLY wish that it came with maybe a retractable chord to plug in when the batter life isnt sufficient. I have been a Dyson owner since early 2005 (I still have that one and it still works). I was using the Dyson V7 Animal until my wife purchased this upgraded one for me. Right away, I could feel and see the difference! With 2 children, a large dog (that never stops shedding), and my wife and I, keeping our house clean is nearly impossible. The Dyson V8 Animal Pro has been amazing and extremely helpful! I only have 3 general complaints about it, which stop me from giving it a 5 Star Review. First, the container becomes full very quickly and having to empty it so often is a little annoying (I know the newer models have addressed that). Second, the stick portion is a little short for taller people like me and I don’t think that adding a second stick would function well not be practical; this causes me to have to lean over while vacuuming, which means my back starts aching. Third, a lack of accessories! There are more attachment tools for my V7 than my newer V8. More directly, there doesn’t seem to be a hard floor attachment option. I have checked their website, but there are no hard floor tools offered for this vacuum (Dyson V8 Animal Pro). I would be particularly interested in the tool that worked on both the carpet and hard floors. Other than that, I really do love this little vacuum.DaBear

This is the second Dyson I have owned. The previous one I purchased at a retailer that offered an extended warranty for purchase. The vacuum stopped working shortly after the Dyson two year warranty. The extended warranty company was great. We sent the vacuum to them and they determined they could not repair it and refunded the entire amount that we paid for the vacuum. The second one we purchased at Costco and they did not offer the extended warranty, but talked us into purchasing because they would take back if we had any problems. Well once again right after the two year Dyson warranty has expired, the vacuum is not working correctly again. Pretty sure Costco won't take back after two years, although I will also complain to them. They are a great vacuum, just a lot of expense for something that lasts only two years. I hope some of the other companies venturing into cordless stick vacuums become successful because I don't want to keep buying a vacuum that does not last.K Wood

We've got a couple large area rugs on otherwise all terrazzo floors. Recently adopted a short double coated Aussie Shepherd Beagle mix that has now begun shedding. This vacuum works great for our situation, the smaller head being easy to maneuver around and under tables and recliners. Intermittent use up to 30min for the rugs does cause the vacuum head to get pretty hot, not where you hold it, but to the exhaust side. Being corded delivers plenty of suction power without the added battery weight of a similarly capable cordless vac. I agree with others that upright storage could have been better executed. I'd suggest Shark include some kind of wall mount to hang it up when not in use. Overall happy with the product, although the price point around $200 on sale with coupon still seems a bit high in my opinion.Kent

1 person, 1 cat household. The vacuum has good suction BUT the cat hair gets stuck around a small metal peice and doesn't make it to the bin. If you have more than 1 pet – this is NOT the best unit. 1 room = empyting the bin and removing the hair from around the metal piece. It also cannot stand alone which is highly annoying. I don't want to take the motor off and attach it to the stick so that it will be self standing. DUMB design. It gets HOTTER than a Texas summer day very quickly. You cannot find the accessories listed in the maintaince booklet online. I guess they don't exist. You can find replacement filers. This vacuum is best as a quick, pick-me up unit — not your only vacuum.Zaney

This is more of an electric broom than a vacuum cleaner. It does a great job getting under furniture and cleans well on both carpet and bare floor. I have 2 dogs so I was trying to get to hard to reach areas. It does that well with the attachments included but I wish it had a brush. However, it’s made for small areas because it needs to be emptied often (easily) because it’s quite small. It also overheated after about 30 minutes of what I guess was too much work for it. Waiting an hour to turn it back on is a bummer. It’s a bit awkward to use as the handheld part at the top is heavy. As a result it won’t stand up on it’s own. You have to lay it down. It has it’s uses but doesn’t replace my old Shark. It’s much smaller and not much lighter.Mary

I owned a Dyson for around 12 years, but when it quit, Shark was highly recommended. I chose this model because it claimed to be good for pet owners, like many other models of the brand. I have to say that I've never been more disappointed in a vacuum. Here are some of the things I noticed: First off, it's awkward in regards to weight distribution. The thing tips over incredibly easy. Second, the cord is much shorter than what I was used to with the Dyson, meaning it had to be unplugged and moved around a lot. Third, it has to be emptied a lot. It just doesn't hold much, and is a mess to empty. Lastly, it's narrow head means it's going to take twice as long to cover the area you're working on. The worst part about this vacuum is that I just bought it in January (@ $179), and my carpet looks just awful. Almost right after vacuuming, you can't tell it was ever done, so the lack of cleaning over time has really aged my carpet that wasn't very old to begin with. I know this brand gets compared to Dyson all the time, with claims of equal or superior performance, but the people who say this couldn't possibly have actually owned a Dyson. They are not equal in any way, shape, or form. It's not even been a year and I'm already looking to replace it. I fear if I don't, I'll have to replace my carpet at a much larger cost.Burgster

I was blown away when I first got this vacuum in September 2018, in fact I think I wrote a review. It picks up pet hair more than the Dyson and Oreck I’ve owned. The furniture attachment is amazing at removing fur! However, 14 months later and I ended up here looking for Black Friday / Cyber Monday vacuum sales because mine is falling apart. That actually started fairly soon after purchasing, but it did such a great job I ignored it. I did call QVC in January I think, about the carpet attachment not working and was told to call Shark directly, whom I never was able to get ahold of due to wait times, time zone difference etc. So 4 months after buying a new 200 vacuum I was using my old Oreck on the few carpeted/rug areas of my house and just using the new Shark to de-fur the furniture and the wand attachment. And even that is not fun because it tips over every 2 seconds. It still picks up nicely but the plastic inside the canister is breaking, the hose is worn out and I’m tired of having to us two vacuums. So while the performance of this vacuum was good, it’s cheaply made exterior makes it not worth the trouble.EBL47

I regret buying this vacuum and paid over $200 at Menards in Lansing Michigan. If I could sell it I would! The cord at the base of the vacuum is in the wrong place. I am constantly tripping over it even if I try to secure it in the handle. Cleaning out the plastic bin is a mess I have to now put on gloves with a damp paper towel to clean it properly. I have long hair which when cleaning my hair is wrapped around the roller that I have to cut out and pull to remove it. The attachment/hose on the vacuum is to tight I have to hold the base and vacuum with the attachment in the other hand to prevent it from falling on the floor or hitting my legs. I bought this to replace a 2-in-1 stick vacuum thats handle broke. I bought the Dirt Devil Express Lite because not only was it lightweight for me to handle, had a removable hands free dust buster, it also had a roller brush I can use for area rugs and gets in the edges of the carpet along the wall. The price was about the same as the one I had with less features, so it was a great value for the price. After putting it together I realized it also has another valuable feature. The filter is rubber and can be rinsed to get rid of dust. No nasty cioth filter that never gets clean and holds odors. I have respiratory condition and this will keep my house dust free! I am so excited to have such a powerful, yet lightweight sweeper. It will meet all my needs!Psmithny2

I work full time and run an animal rescue. I needed a strong vacuum for the intake room and had NO time to put something together. To my surprise the unit literally snapped together! It also has a button to turn the broom off which I LOVE (makes me wonder about those reviews that said the broom quit, it's not advertised on box only instruction guide). The one tiniest complaint I’d have is after going back and forth a couple times there are some items that you would think the vacuum would pick up, but doesn’t. Instead, I use the detachable wand for those odd pieces. I should clarify, the vacuum has picked up 99% of what is seen on the carpet. It’s just those random odd stragglers and it doesn’t happen every time. As for our tiles, I just use the wand to pick up anything necessary then jet swift it but that’s a different product.GL

To start off I would have to say that the Dirt Devil Endura Max Upright vacuum is a high quality performing product. There is very great suction when it comes to pet hair and even popcorn in the carpet that my child had spilled. The spinning brush is adjustable to many settings. Such as bare floor to higher profile carpet. It does a great job of pulling dirt and hair out of my medium profile carpet. It isn't to heavy so when I use the extended hose handle I can carry it from place to place. One thing in was not a fan of was the multi dusting piece. It was a little to bulky to fit into my window seal to get that dirt out. The smaller end was also not long and thin enough to fit into my dryer vent. The dusting piece also added extra unnecessary bulk. It is a nice concept but it isn't as great as the individual pieces. Other than my opinion on the duster, I really enjoy and love my Dirt Devil Endura Max Upright vacuum. If you are contemplating this purchase, I recommend you try this product. Other than marrying my ex husband, buying this vacuum was the worst decision of my life. It is bulky and cheap plastic. Extremely loud and makes my arm go numb from all of the vibration! It has a "hardwood" setting but the brush still spins in that setting, which can scratch the hardwood. I was excited about the pet brush attachment, but is doesn't really work since the attachment will NOT stay on the hose or in the attachment holder, for that matter. It does not have much suction, I feel running a lint brush over the carpet would pick up more! I won't even give this vaccum away because I wouldn't want anyone to hate me!BBB Customer

We purchased the Shark corded stick model at Target a few years ago. At first it was great, and I recommend it for smaller houses or apartments since it's lightweight and small. It's powerful for its size. But it's not super durable. From what I've read, Shark doesn't make many replacement parts and there aren't many opportunities to repair their products. After about 2 years, several important parts were broken, including the hinge holding the dust cup together. We've been using packing tape to hold together the dust cup, and we have to cut off the tape to empty it and then re-tape it shut every time. Also the main little interior hose at the bottom that connects the head to the stick cracked wide open. The brush gets wrapped with long hair easily. The suction is pretty bad now, probably because of all these issues. Overall pros: It's great on wood floors, good on rugs, and works well while it lasts. Lightweight and easy to maneuver and carry up stairs. I like the attachments and they're easy to use. Long cord. Bagless is more environmentally friendly, although it's best to empty it into a plastic bag anyways. It's a good deal when it's on sale for $100. Overall cons: Doesn't stand up on its own. Cheaply made. The dust bin is really small. It's a hassle to empty the dust bin because you have to unplug the whole vacuum and carry the entire cord out to the trash can with you to empty the cup. Also, bagless vacuums just seem dirtier to me since the dust and hair isn't actually contained. It's always gross emptying it and trying to avoid the cloud of crap flying up at you. It is amazing honestly. We vacuumed our carpets with our old Shark right before we went to Target to look for a new one. We came home and vacuumed again over all of it. The canister filled up TWICE. I was mortified lol. This vacuum has powerful suction and harder tips on the roller that RAKE the carpet and get the film of dog hair out of my thick plush carpeting. I’m not lying. If I was unimpressed, I would tell you so! You DO have to empty the canister more than you would any other vacuum because it is small. If you are continuously vacuuming every room in your house and not emptying, you are going to put extra stress on the motor. It IS a stick vacuum. If you need heavy duty, 5-6 rooms at a time vacuuming, this isn’t your vacuum. I had to empty after EACH room because my vacuum obviously wasn’t doing its job. But I expect next time I won’t (I hope) because I will be pulling out the vacuum daily and keeping the dirt to a minimal in general. I really wanted cordless but my man insisted he didn’t want to deal with battery issues. I’ve never had a cordless and I just wanted one so bad. Cords irritate me and get in my way lol. But this purchase was good. So far I am very satisfied. I will definitely come back and redo my review if I feel like my opinion has changed in a couple months. I’ve had this vacuum for 4 years. Here are my thoughts: PROS 1. Good suction, still finds dust and dirt and pet hair 2. Lightweight and really low profile so you can vacuum under things easily 3. Price is amazing for the quality 4. No bags and all the filters I can clean out on my own and reuse. Huge cost and environmental savings. 5. Easy and fast detach / attach for getting corners and using the tools that come with it. 6. Dust bin opens easily and smart so I can hold it over the trash and won’t get dust everywhere. Less messy to empty than others. CONS 1. Corded 2. Hose broke down in head where it bends and flexes as you vacuum, I noticed it at year 3.5, so I had to replace that segment of hose (had holes/cracks in it). I purchased a hose at Home Depot and found some instructions online. Overall it was moderately hard to replace. 3. Suction does not adjust when you vacuum over rugs like the expensive name brand competitor so I have to stand on one end to hold the rug down due to the suction wanting to pickup the rug. 4. Doesn’t sit upright, must lean against a wall when it’s not hanging on the wall given it is too heavy. If you pause during vacuuming to pick something up etc. the thing may fall down while leaning against the wall. Takes a bit of experience to get the perfect, no-fall lean figured out.jessica.b

I am in shock I have been using a Dyson vacuum for years and after 1 minute of using the shark vacuum I was won over. The suction is out of this world after 1 minute my vacuum was full I had to empty it 5 different times on a carpet that “appeared clean” when using my Dyson. I am completely amazed at how much dust and hair it brought up from my carpet. I would absolutely buy the same vacuum again and again! I love how it glides forward for you, you can disconnect the different parts of the vacuum to put on the different attachments, I love how easy it is to empty also. Before I say I dislike this vacuum, I want to say I love the Shark brand… This particular model though is not my favorite. Which sucks (or doesn't depending how you look at it) cause I was so excited for a new stick vacuum. I bought my first and only other shark vacuum about 8 years ago and that little sucker is amazing and still works. However it is time for an upgrade. This vacuum is more for hard floors and NOT carpet. I bought the first vacuum on clearance and on a whim, and had never heard of shark before but now thats the only brand I will buy. They are amazing just make sure you read into what they are intended for. I will be returning this one only to buy a different version more suited to my needs. Have used this vacuum about 4 times now. Love the lightness. I have two shark vacuums that I love. Getting older though and lifting and pushing the vacuums is not something I enjoy. This shark is so light and has a 25ft cord. Yes, you do have to empty the canister more often than a regular vacuum but it is worth it to me. Great suction power and the swivel head is very helpful. We have a dog that sheds a lot so looking forward to vacuuming now and it picks up dog hair easily. Does not stand on its own but that is ok too. I have had a Hoover Windtunnel since 2012 and love it. This vacuum is terrible. It has good suction but………When it is in the Upright position so you can use the attachments the roller brush does not shut off. It ruins your carpet! It actually was smelling like something was burning. I think the belt was slipping. Bad engineering to not have the roller brush shut off in the upright position. What kind of idiot would say yes to a design like this? Our Windtunnel shuts off in the upright position. Tried to call Hoover….was told they were closed on a Thursday, I Was told in a recording to go online which I did but chat said they were closed and to call them. PING PONG affect going on here. DUMB….. Then on Friday was on hold 2 hrs before it cut me off. Called back, pressed the prompt for a call back and never got one the entire day and still no call back. Today is Monday called again and again We are closed after going through all the prompts to wait for an agent. Went online to chat and actually got someone named Honey B who was a bit rude saying we are open, just busy. So there is a difference of being closed and saying busy hang on….. Then when I told about the problem we had I was told to talk to who makes our carpet. Pass the buck Hoover on poor engineering huh????. You should never have a vacuum that the brush spins and spins when it's in one place. This vacuum was made to use attachments so put the rollers into idle please while using them. You will wear out your carpet and wear out your vacuum belt. Hoover will try everything I'm sure to cover our damaged carpet….SO BUYER beware. FORGET this vacuum. Its junk. PLUS the dial to lift the vacuum head up really does nothing. It's a joke. And when emptying the canister, it fell off the hinges. Seriously, I will never recommend Hoover again. They have gone down hill..You do get what you pay for. And this one is best left on the shelf.Larry59

I grew up using Hoover products and have used them my entire adult life. I researched all brands/models before replacing our older Hoover. We decided on this vacuum due to having three cats and it's excellent reviews. The first time I vacuumed with it, I loved it. I actually still love it's vacuuming capabilities (after using it a month). The fault with this product lies in the fact that as soon as you turn on the vacuum, the brush turns at a very high speed (while vacuum is still in upright position) and the brush doesn't stop until you turn off the vacuum, regardless of floor setting or if you are using the upholstery/stair attachments. I've never had a vacuum like this before and being that it's specifically designed for pet owners, the fact that the brush turns when the upholstery attachments are in use baffles me. While trying to vacuum our couch the brush actually wore on our carpet and heated it to the point of melting after less than a minute. I tried manipulating the vacuum and leaning it back off the carpet while using the attachment but that is just way too much effort. We tried it on all floor settings including hard floor with the same results. Honestly, the brush shouldn't turn until the handle is released for vacuuming so I'm not exactly sure why it was made this way. I returned it thinking I had a faulty vacuum and exchanged it for the same model (it does vacuum really well), and the second vacuum did the same, so I must assume it's simply a design flaw. So if your pet's don't shed on furniture or stairs I recommend this model, otherwise It pains me to say that I don't recommend it.Cat mom of three

Well, it seems to do ok but there are some things that make me wonder why they were designed the way they were. The on switch should be up at the top of the handle instead of being a foot switch where the reclining lever used to be for something like 100 years of Hoover vacuums. To recline the handle now requires I reach around with my foot and step on the front of the machine while forcing the handle down. It's very awkward and silly to change a design that worked for a century. And the rug height adjustment is a little touchy. I set it around medium and started vacuuming a very low rug and didn't know the belt was slipping until I smelled rubber burning. Oops. Once I learned to dial the height properly the vacuum does a pretty good job of cleaning pet hair and dirt from carpet. I had been vacuuming with a shop vac and thought my rugs were fairly clean, but the Hoover with the spinning brushes managed to pull out a lot more dirt that I missed. Emptying the canister is straightforward. I take it outside and blow it with a leaf blower. I can't imagine getting it sufficiently clean any other way without using water. Overall it's a marvel of engineering that performs its job very well, but with a couple very obvious design blunders that renders it a bit awkward to use.Randal

purchased my new Shark Vacuum at Target on Black Friday, to replace my older Hoover Vacuum. I find that the vacuum was very easy to assemble within 10 minutes and was ready to go without having to worry about any of the bags. The Dual-Mode brush vacuum cleaned up a lot of Cat hair and dust my previous vacuum couldn't pick up. And emptying it out was a breeze. My one things about this vacuum is that it doesnt have a cord rewind, so I'm not amused with winding up my own cord. Its totally worth the buy.lewis.q

The Shark Rotator Lift-Away DuoClean Pro really impresses and will surely take care of all your cleaning needs. Out of the box, the Shark comes nicely packaged with easy to understand quick assembly guide. Fully assembled, the vacuum is heavier than my current Shark by about 5-6lbs, but my current model (the Rotator Powered Lift-Away Speed) is meant to be lighter. While it is heavier, it still maneuvers like a nimble sports car in and around furniture. The swivel joint that connects the handle to the floor unit makes vacuuming an ease and kind of fun. Put on some music and clean to the tunes! The lift away function allows you to cut some of the weight should you need to clean furniture, stairs, or other tight areas. The suction on this vacuum is amazing. Just like with my previous model, you really have no clue how dirty your carpet is until you over it with the Shark. What appears in the canister is SHOCKING. While the size of the canister is pretty standard, at less than 1/2 gallon, it can fill up without reducing suction. When full, emptying the canister is simple. There's no twisting or turning, just pushing a simple release latch button to disconnect the canister from the vacuum and then pushing another button at the bottom of the canister where all of the dirt and debris cleanly falls into the trash bin. This vacuum works so well that you'll likely need to empty it multiple times, but that's a good thing because you know you're getting things cleaner! The LED lights are another excellent feature of this Shark. They provide bright lights at almost floor level. Because of their low angle, you'll be able to see things on the floor that you weren't able to see with overhead lights alone. The DuoClean brush (standard vacuum brush + the hard floor brush) really improves this model over my previous vacuum. I have both carpets, rugs, and hard wood floors. While my previous vacuum did an excellent job at carpets, it wasn't so great at hard wood floors. It's powerful suction would suck in any debris, but hardwood floors can be dusty. Even using the carpet brush didn't completely clean the floors. With this this models hard floor brush, it actually buffs and dusts the hard wood floors while also sucking in any loose debris! This makes me so happy because no one really enjoys having to sweep or mop in addition to vacuuming. Lastly, the Power Pet Brush is great–especially for those with pets. Despite my best efforts, my cat will inevitably crawl on uncovered parts of the couch. After not much time at all, his hair becomes entangled and weaved into the fabric of the couch. I'm still baffled how this happens, but it does. Brushing and sucking alone is not sufficient to remove these hairs. However, the Power Pet Brush's suction and vigorous active brush roll get my furry friends leftovers off the couch so that it looks brand new. If you have pets, you know what I'm talking about and this tool will be your new best friend! In conclusion, I love this vacuum. It makes cleaning easy, effective, and efficient! It will be an excellent addition to your household. Vaccuum itself picks up debris great. I received a broken model where the wand doesn't release/click back in appropriately. I contacted Shark, as there is supposed to be a 5 year warranty – but this doesn't cover the wand defect. Because I didn't use the wand feature or realize this in the first 2 months of use , it was too late to return and Shark customer service wouldn't replace the wand part. This thing is amazing. I bought to replace my 7 year old shark vacuum. While my old shark worked great, I figured it was time to upgrade to something targeted toward homes with pets. It amount of dirt it pulls from the carpet is incredible just like any shark vacuum. The bonus is the way it deals with pet hair. I haven't had a problem with cat (or human) hair getting stuck in the primary roller. The plush roller on the front is great for hardwood floors and I was shocked just how gross it can get even when the house is cleaned multiple times a week. It's like a magnet for dirt! I bought this vacuum in March 2020 and it does a great job with my carpets and I love the attachments. However – the clip on the dustcup broke off – not from abuse or anything – and so it doesn't latch tight. I called about a replacement, and the only option I had was to buy a new dustcup. Seems like that should have been included in the 1 year warranty. You also have to pull all the hair/strings out of the brush roller – it gets very clogged up. But it does a great job with our carpets and hardwood floors, so I'm still happy I bought it.tblakl

I bought this to replace our old Dyson V6 Animal Cordless. I read many reviews videos for research. I had a Shark Navigator Pro before and I know Shark makes a good vacuum, so I was excited to try this. It seemed great. It went together easily and the crevice tool did well between the couch cushions and around the edges of the house. I liked the flexible arm that let the vacuum bend to get really far under furniture like my tables and sideboards. It was easy to empty the canister and easy to use. After using the vacuum about 30 minutes, a clog developed in the first joint where dirt from the head goes into the tube to take it up to the canister. This clog (half of which is pictured) was so big it extended from the opening of the vacuum suction hole on the bottom of the head, all the way up to where the head attached to the main long arm. After looking into the vacuum head's mechanics, I found that there are three "lock screws" on the underneath that allow you to take off the bottom guard piece to access the suction tube, which means Shark knew this was a problem and they "fixed" it by giving the consumer more work. I was able to use a cat wand toy to shove through the bottom to push the clog out the other side. This mess pictured on my couch was the result. As someone who has severe dust and environmental allergies, I don't exactly want to play with clogs of my allergens in order to get my vacuum running. I also have a large house, two long haired Siberian cats, four teenagers, and a job. The LAST THING I have time for is housework and messing around with crappy vacuums. For the price point, I'd expect this vacuum to actually work properly, and not take a ton of work to use it. The entire thing felt wobbly when fully connected and used to vacuum floors, so I didn't see the expected excellent quality of materials or workmanship for the price point either. Furthermore, as several reviewers stated the vacuum did shock me multiple times with static electricity buildup, which was annoying. Another con to this vacuum is that when I was vacuuming my couch where the cats lay, it wouldn't pick up all the cat fur regardless of how many passes I made. The suction just wasn't powerful enough, or maybe the static buildup offset the suction, gluing the cat hair to the couch in dreadlocked strands. Besides all this, the vacuum was very heavy and bulky. This thing will be going back tomorrow, and I'll be placing my order for the Dyson V11 Animal. I'd rather pay twice as much and know for a fact that my vacuum will work when I need it to, how I need it to. Save yourself the headache and don't get this Shark Vertex Cordless vacuum.MandieSue76

I purchased the Shark Vertex Cordless Stick Vacuum to use primarily to clean the floor near and around my bird cage. Every morning I let my parrot out of her cage, where she sits on the Playtop, and also on a perch mounted outside the cage. She creates quite a mess because seeds drop onto the floor, and some feathers. Getting my corded vacuum out just to cleanup around her cage was a bit of work, so I decided that a cordless vacuum would be the perfect solution. What I love about this vacuum is that it folds down for easy storage, and I can fit it in the room close by the cage. It's very easy to operate, and easy to empty the dust cup. The swivel powerhead with lights works great. It comes with several attachment tools, however, when you remove the power head to use the attachments, the suction power is not as strong. For my use, having this cordless vacuum is still the perfect solution, but I will still be using my corded vacuum for whole house cleaning.DianaNaples

I bought the Shark because I have a corded one downstairs. I needed a vacuum upstairs for my 2 floors, that was light weight and can maneuver pretty well. First off I want to say the "Shark" name is good. This cordless vacuum does not do well with pets. I have 8 cats and cat sand everywhere, the only thing it does is spit the sand out from the back, Has a very difficult time picking up fur as well. You know when you see a piece of fur and the vacuum front just has to go near it to suck it up. This vacuum does not, It just makes it tumble farther. Good for light clean ups but for every week vacuuming, I strongly recommended getting the corded one. It was more power for suction and spot clean ups if you spill rice or oats on floor. To bad because for the price you think it would be worth it. This vacuum is now on our 1st floor where there is very little traffic and pets. Perfect for a formal dinning room or front room that no ones goes in and you need a quick spruce up. Also if you have cats and cat sand, clean filter ever ytime you use it, the dust seems to bog down the performance as well.jsepulvida

This vacuum has lasted me 2 years with no issues. It comes with several attachments that are easy to change. The filtration system is great and doesn't disperse dust particles back into the air. Filter is very easy to change and has a good amount of capacity. The things I was not pleased with was the way it works in smaller spaces such as bathrooms. The way the wand is designed seems a bit awkward for this. It may be ideal for commercial property cleaning as opposed to residential homes, which is how i use it. Also the purple floor attachment can scratch hardwood floors because it seems to become scratched with little jagged edges from the vacuuming motion going across debris and different surfaces . In terms of power, this vacuum has such strong suction that it is easily able to suck up quarters and post construction debris. The long wand make it very easy to reach otherwise hard to reach places. For me this outweighs the "cons".reborn_threadz

While it may seem strange to get excited about a vacuum cleaner, I am THRILLED with this one! I have owned janitorial companies for years and have been reluctant to try a backpack vacuum. I've always heard that they are awkward, heavy and don't do a very good job of cleaning a carpet. I'm happy to say those reports couldn't be further from the truth in this case. This unit has so much suction that it will lift up area rugs while vacuuming. We stand on them now so they will stay in place and WOW do they come clean. It's very easy to maneuver while wearing the vacuum and areas that we had to go over two and three times with a standard vacuum are now clean after one pass. I had some concerns about the noise level bothering my employees, but it's also much quieter than I expected. Honestly, it's quieter than our conventional vacs. Here's what really impresses me… EFFICIENCY! When you own a janitorial company, time is money. This machine has cut my payroll by almost 25%! Rooms that took an hour to vacuum, are now being done in 30-45 minutes. I can tell you first hand that saving 15-30 minutes per job adds up quickly! The price of this vacuum is incredibly reasonable. When you compare it too the Wide Area Windsor vacuum that I just replaced with this ProTeam unit, I can honestly say I'll never buy another Wide Area vac again. I paid a little over $400 for this vacuum, versus $2,500 for the Windsor Wave. After using this vacuum for almost 2 months, I'm ready to buy another one for a new cleaning contract we just signed. This will be my go-to vac from here on. I do have ONE complaint. The wand that the unit comes with is less than stellar. The plastic connector that holds the floor tool on fell off after about 3 weeks of daily use. I contacted customer service and they sent me to a local vendor who replaced the entire assemble the same day and at no charge. I was very happy with their speedy response to my emergency.Adam S.

I really love this vacuum. I’m a tall girl, so most vacuums require me to bend down to use them and it kills my back. This thing lets me stand upright. I bought it to clean my house and I’m really happy with it. The only problem I have is that it plugs in at a connection point that you need to remove it from your back to reconnect it when it slips off from connecting. I’m still trying to work out how I can wrap the power cord around the vacuum so it doesn’t disconnect if it get too far from an outlet. I’m not having a lot of luck. It’s a pain in the butt. Truly. BUT the suction power and the vacuum in general is pretty great.J.I.M.

I received this vacuum for Christmas, and have been using it daily for about three months now. I really wanted to love this vacuum, but I don't. The main issue I have is with the self-cleaning brushroll: Sure it doesn't tangle, but that would require it to actually pick up fur in the first place. This vacuum adamantly refuses to pick up any fur that isn't just sitting loose on the surface of the rug…which is deeply unhelpful. The roll just wipes fur along, without doing anything to agitate the carpet. I have used the entire battery life of this vacuum on my single living room area rug, just to still need to use my rubber broom. For a vacuum that costs >$300, this is extremely disappointing, and considering the vacuum is called the "pet pro," I truly don't understand why this vacuum simply cannot handle fur in any regard. My second problem with this vacuum is that it leaks dust from every single joint and seam the entire time I'm using it. Who wants to be covered in dust from vacuuming? Not I. Additionally, the wand itself clogs constantly in a way that's very difficult to clean out. In fact, most of this vacuum is difficult to clean, outside of changing the filters. I have two cats and a lab mix who sheds like it's his mission on earth, and frankly, this vacuum just does not cut it.LindseyJoy

I've never made a purchase that I've been more disappointed in. The vacuum worked fine the first couple of times now every time is vacuum my house I have to unclog the machine from the many many many potential clog spots. I never once had this problem with our previous dyson vacuum. I have a golden retriever, so yes, having to maybe unload the vacuum is to be expected however for a product that supposedly specializes in pets, it does a TERRIBLE job. I've had to take apart the base of the bottom when that gets clogged, the shaft of the vacuum comes apart and now hair seems to get clogged making the base of the vacuum essentially worthless. I absolutely love that it is cordless. I loved the black friday price… i think it was $159 or $179 something like that . WAY under the price for a dyson. I absolutely love it. I have 2 dogs and 1 cat all whom shed ALOT. I use this vacuum daily, several times a day and have not had any issue with the battery. Keep in mind i mentioned having a little zoo of animals, so the first month i had to take the machine apart to be able to remove clogged hair on the long stick. The instructions dont really tell you how to clean it. There is more than just emptying the basket. To avoid it getting clogged, i now try to blow out all the hair in the tubes Atleast once a week. Only negative i would mention is I wish it was a bit stronger and wish it gave an option on height. For example if there is a leaf on the floor it will not suck it in becase the vacuum in not high off the ground to pick it up. I believe the dyson is a tad stronger but its not worth paying $400, when i can just use this one for under $200. I do not regret purchasing this at all. Just bought this Shark "Purple" Navigator vac on the recommendation of a friend who has one. First let me say I have owned at least a dozen vacs in my life including models from Hoover, Oreck, Pnansonic, Electrolux and a couple of industrial strength shop vacs. This one blows them all out of the ring. I have hardwood floors with large area rugs, mostly wool or synthetic Oriental and Arts and Crafts patterns. Despite the fact that I have regularly vacuumed them with my previous (and clearly wimpy) vacs, when I used this Navigator today I was completely shocked at how much dirt, pet fur, human hair and lint it pulled out of them. After one pass in my master bedroom the large dust cup was packed solid and I had to empty it. Same thing when I did the other bedroom and the 4 downstairs rooms. I completely filled a box the size of a footstool with the clumps of nasty grey fluzz the Navigator pulled deep out of the carpets. And it even pulled up the nap so they look fluffier. It's amazing how clean they look, like I just shampooed them! I feel like I have all new rugs though several of these are over 20 years old. Seriously, buy this vac, it's an excellent value. Do read all the instructions, though, because you need to know how to release all the latches and adjust the suction. The maximum suction is so high you may have to turn it down a little or it will literally pull lighter rugs up into the roller. Easy to adjust, this twist a ring around the handle. this model served me well using it for a year at a big private restaurant that was nearly all carpet. if it can handle that. it can handle a home for years. great vac for $160, shark has the best suction, however more inexpensive models dont orovide the same suction so this one is qorth the extra $. Just don't be dumb and suck up sticks or rubber bands or wrappers, it's not a shopvac, it will clog like any household vacuum! i love the adjustable suction control, the utility of the wand being long or short, the attachments are fine (as always the air driven furniture cleaner attachment is nearly useless not sure why any company bothers to make em unless belt driven). easy to empty bucket and super easy to clean. if you get clog in the hose from sucking up something dumb, the hoses and wand and everything come apart so easy to clear clogs. fairly light (not the lightest but that's the price you pay for a motor big enough to create good suction). works great on carpet thick or thin and also bare floors which is rare for a vac to be good at both! very nice design, shark: dont change a thing.pixelklo

Got this today, was a breeze to assemble and get going. Picks up a lot of dirt and hair quickly, I like the no tangle bush as we have a longer hair dog, and my wife and daughter both have long hair which used to have to be cut from the beater bar of our old vac on a regular basis. This one has 3 filters so good for allergies, and the dual brushes which did very well on carpet and hardwood, getting a lot of the dust on the wood floor the old one couldnt get.Only a few things to note, the bin is a bit small and had to be dumped a lot because of pet hair, 3 times on our main living room. It is not the lightest vacuum but about the same as our old one. I wish it came with a cleaning brush head separate order… and had room on board for all the attachments instead of just 2. The head is low profile and fits places our old one would not, and it turns very well. Will see how well it holds up as the Dyson 07 it is replacing lasted us for 20 years and did a good job consistently. Just didnt want to pay top dollar for a Dyson again.3 months later and the vacuum is still doing a great job. We have not had any problems with hair wrap on the brush bar with our golden retrievers fur. Still have to dump the bin a lot with pet fur. Still miss that there was no standard brush attachment, but came with basically two upholstery brushes one powered, one not. About to order the standard long bristle cleaning brush so I can clean the air return and vents, be nice if the sizes were standard so I could just use the old ones from other vacuums. Another quick update, trying to find accessories like the dusting brush has been difficult. Shark does not carry one on their website, even though the owners manual says they do, and cant or wont tell you the dimensions needed.
