Best Home Remedy To Kill Fleas (2024 Update)

I previously purchased this product and it works great. I have 3 cats and the smell being essential Oils did not phase them. I did not put it directly on the cats but sprayed my carpets etc and it did not bother them and the fleas do not like it. They hibernate into my flea traps which are excellent as well. The price is cheaper then anywhere I have seen as well. I am new to this site but enjoy checking in and seeing what is new.L.T.

I have bought five bottles of this so far because I like the product that much. It’s easy to attach to your garden hose and you’re able to treat a large area with one container. I like to use this heavily right on the woods line of my yard and then cover the grass. The ticks are horrible right now in NH and I feel this product really helps control them. The scent is also not overbearing and I actually enjoy it. It smells very natural and dissipates rather quickly. I’ve treated my lawn twice so far this year only because it ended up raining the following day after treatment. Overall, I really like this brand. I received this Vets Best Flea and Tick Home Spray as part of Walmart’s Spark Reviewer program. This is a plant-based formula that is supposed to help kill fleas, ticks and repel mosquitoes. Well I can tell you that it has other uses. I use this in my garage and spray it around my cars. I know that these ingredients we repel rodents as well as spiders. Living in a rural area I have a problem with squirrels nesting under my car hood and chewing the wires. This spray helps to repel them because rodents do not like peppermint as well as the other ingredients. What I also like about this spray is the ingredients are natural not poisonous. I have sprayed it around the perimeter of my property as well as inside my screened in patio where my cats like to hang out. I am just trying to repel all the fleas and ticks before they become a problem. Since the ingredients are natural I would not hesitate to spray on the cats if necessary. I would rather give them this then put those pesticide topicals on them or feed them flea pills. The cats don’t seem to mind the smell either because they still stay on the porch after I spray it. I also feel better about the product being natural because when it seeps in the ground it will not to contaminate my well. All you smell is peppermint and clove. I have been trying to find a product to use on my Goldendoodle that keeps the mosquitos away. I let him out and he would stop what seemed like every minute an flip out trying to bit something on him. I already have him on a file and tick pill and dealing with a lot of hair I did not wont to mess with the liquid on the back of the neck trying to get it onto the skin. This product is easy to use and does not smell completely terrible. My dog did not like being sprayed the first few times but after about the fourth time he just stands there and lets me spray all over. I'm a professional dog groomer who is well known for being "holistic". I wasted so much money over the years trying to find the one flea shampoo and spray that would eliminate fleas safely and not put a pet's health in danger. I found "Vet's Best Spray On Flea Shampoo" and "Flea Tick Spray" at a small holistic food store. I twisted the lid off, gave it a sniff, and put it immediately in my basket. This stuff smells so good, if you like that cinnamon spice scent. There are no offensive fumes that burn the pets eyes. I was so happy when I found the product to actually work. I use the spray on shampoo first. Once the groom is complete I use the spray. Mosquitoes are bad in the south and this product uses essential oils to repel them. Perfect for before walks on both me and the dog! This product kills fleas on contact. It does not repel fleas. . It's pretty important when I'm getting paid to de flea a dog that I do it right and most importantly, do it safely. I found pesticide products have horrible side effects such as vomiting, loose stool, and even neurological side effects. I like that I can use this product on my client's dogs and feel confidant that it will not only work, but it wont put me out of a job by hurting a dog! Trust me you should get both the spray on shampoo and the spray for a full arsenal defense against fleas and mosquitoes! Last but not least I'd like to add that it's rare to find a flea product that works on cats that is safe to use. Cats are so sensitive to flea products, and they are the worst to get fleas. I LOVE this stuff! A little goes a long way and it works really well, it’s a little expensive but if you’re lucky you can buy it cheaper on eBay (which is what I did) now as for the smell, yeeees it is a wee bit strong when you spray it, mostly smells like toothpaste (according to my kids) I think it’s got a minty-anise smell. They don’t smell like it after they’ve been bathed but I also use conditioner on them after the flea bath because they have pretty dense/rough fur. Oh and I do love the fact it’s a spray instead of a regular pour out liquid, it makes it MUCH easier for me to hold and spray/scrub than trying to hold and soap them up! Granted my dogs are both in the 3-5 lbs range. So I would definitely recommend for small dogs, I think it might be more of a pain (literally) to have to spray down a big dog.emily.m

Weve had a recent battle with fleas and how ever many vet standard flea treatments we used they didnt work. we used several very strong toxic products for the house and they didnt seem to do anything apart from make us feel nauseous. Seemingly after a spraying of this stuff it all seemed to stop, the scratching, the headaches. I so wanted this product to work but don't waste your money. I followed the instructions & doused our dog's bedding etc. with this spray. The smell is not unpleasant but it is very, very strong and took days to be bearable. Anyway, a few days later, when we found an engorged tick on the dog (thanks, Frontline) we experimented by putting it in a plastic bag & spritzing the Tropiclean into the baggie. Hey, it says "guaranteed," so we wanted to find out. More than 36 hours later, the tick was still waving its legs. This stuff is outstanding. You spray it on your dog, or your home furnishings anywhere really. And you see the effects immediately. The fleas evacuate the area or pet and then die quickly. Its all natural nontoxic made from essential oils and will not negatively effect the health of anyone or anything that comes in contact with the products. Beyond impressed!!! I live in an apartment building with neighbors who have indoor/outdoor cats so naturally at the start of fall every year my apartment gets infested. Ive tried salt, baking soda, dawn dish soap in bowls and on my cat (she is strictly indoor), pesticides, bombing the house, flea baths, collars, and oral/topical flea repellents. None of which comes close to Wondercide. The cedarwood is kinda strong but within 2 minutes the fleas on my cat were dying. I really wanted to like this and have it work, but it really just didn’t do it. I have a very small raised patio on the side of my new house that’s protected from direct sun and gets a nice breeze. I love sitting out there. But noticed little mosquitoes and flying insects seem to like it too. The bottle says how much it will cover and I probably only have 1/4 of that area. But I figured I’d use half and see how it works. I felt like it worked the first 30 minutes after I used it, but I had to leave the house and do stuff. The next day when I went outside, there were mosquitoes and bugs on me within minutes. They never went away. So yesterday (2 weeks after first attempt) I sprayed the other half all over the grass, patio etc….completely drenched the area. 20 minutes later I couldn’t even sit outside anymore from all the annoying bugs. Beat stuff ever! We have three cats and after one went outside she got fleas and they quickly spread to her sisters. We tried chemical shampoo, but that made one of our cats foam at the mouth. Next we tried dawn, but getting three cats into the tub for a rinse left us with lots of scratches and scared cats. After doing a lot of research we came upon this and let me tell you it did the trick. Because two of the three cats sleep on my daughters bed we had to treat her bed as well as the cats. This stuff is the one and only thing we have found that works. The kitty who had them the worst has a flea collar to help but the other two have been treated with this and a flea comb. We have been using it for about two weeks now every other day with the flea comb, a bowl of hot water with dawn to clean the comb and a vacuum after to catch any who may have gotten away and two of the three cats were flea free today! .So I bought this spray along with the natural care flea and tick shampoo. my poor pups had their first experience with fleas, i didnt know why they were scratching so much (it was also my first experience for fleas) but once i looked through one of my pups fur, i immediately saw three fleas. i went straight to walmart, got my products and treated my pups. i prepared a warm bath, dunked them both into the water, lathered them up really good, let it sit for 6 minutes and i rinsed them. in the bath water, i saw the fleas and i also saw a couple ticks that i didnt know they had lol. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND trying this, even if you hate minty smells, i would still give this product a shot. no more fleas, ticks, or annoying itching!!!Mikeesha

I have used the collars on my 4 cats after using your all in one flea remedy, I am constantly washing or treating bedding and carpets, have put out flea traps and diatomaceous earth, and have sprayed outside with nematodes that eat fleas…..I have also closed off the outside cat enclosure until the fleas are gone…..even though the traps are now catching very few fleas, the cats are still infested and are miserable. I comb them constantly for fleas, so I still see adults and new fleas, so I can see that the all in one flea remedy is not working…..things seem worse on the cats than before I started. I have just resorted to ordering Seresto collars which I did not want to do, because of toxicity, but I don't have a choice at this stage. I will have to feed them zeolite to help with toxins until the fleas are gone and then I will remove the collars for winter. Can I return the products for a refund? So, this stuff is basically diatomaceous earth in a fancier bottle and with some rosemary and lemon scent, priced WAY above what some plain DE would cost you at the hardware store. (You can get a 5lb bag for the cost of one canister of this). However, I purchased it knowing that, but because I needed to buy something else to get free shipping and I needed DE anyway. The point is, it WORKS. And, the canister this stuff comes in, coupled with the pleasant smell, does make it much easier to use than say the 5lb bag of DE at the hardware store would be. I purchased this along with Herbal Defense Spray and Herbal Defense Shampoo & Conditioner from All Natural Pet, and I've been very happy with the results. About three months or so ago, I was dealing with a mild flea problem that just would not away. It wasn't a severe problem, yet, but I obviously needed to nip it in the bud before it became one. It was to the point where I would find a flea or two on the dog every time I checked. I tried the nasty chemical spot-ons, and not only did they NOT work at ALL, they made our poor Jack Russell Terrier so sick I actually had to rush her to the emergency vet one night because she wouldn't stop throwing up! This product is horrible. We got it because i it is natural and didn't want to use harsh chemicals because The animals and we have a newborn. After putting the stuff down on the carpet, floors and dog bedding area. After we did that it seemed like we had more fleas ithen we started with. The product is very dusty and makes a mess. I have 2 65 lbs big dogs and I only use this spray whenever I take them out. Usually sprays 3 times on each side of their body and 2 sprays at the bottom. So far only found 1 tick on my shepherd's body in this summer. It does make their fur a little greasy but nothing can be better than natural ingredients. Highly recommended!iHerb Customer

This product has a unique texture that's more like a runny lotion. I believe it was formulated that way to make it longer lasting. The smell of lemongrass and rosemary is very nice, and my dog doesn't seem to mind it. However, I wouldn't recommend it for white dogs as it can stain fur. My mostly white pup had become yellow in places. Which is too bad. I was starting to become partial to this brand and their products. I can't comment on the effectiveness, since I had to stop using it due to the staining.iHerb Customer

This is interesting. The texture is like a gel spray and really sticks to the fur when dried down. I recommend taking a flea comb and combing it through your pets fur. I have taken my dog on some hikes in the forest and have found not one tick or flea on her! This actually does work if you are thorough with it. I have 2 cats in a 700sq ft condo. One cat was newly adopted and i wasnt aware he had fleas because hes jet black. Within a few days, this place was overrun with them teying to eat me in my sleep. I used topical drops 2x within a month (more than reccomended) and barely kept them at a low level infestation. Unwilling to lut more toxic stuff on my babies, I found this when I explored other options. For such a low priced natural spray I honestly was not expecting much. My 15 week indoor cat just recently got fleas unexpectedly. I have hardwood floors and was concerned about what products to use to help completely stop the fleas. This spray almost immediately kills the fleas on impact. The only concern I have about using this product is actually using it on your pet. It was difficult to properly put this product on my cat as he was not fond of the smell or feeling at all. It was also difficult to keep him from licking himself afterwards, which it recommends you not allow. This is a amazing product! It is a Nuisance for one cat, the second cat and one adult is highly allergic to fleas. I take each cat into the shower, and will begin by spraying my hands, and rubbing this onto their feet first, then I will apply to the stomach, the body, then around the chest and neck. Then, I will apply it to the top of their head, and the back of the ears. Once the product is coated, I then rub the product throughout the coat, down to the skin. This is how I start out with my first day each season. Waiting till the following day, I will begin spraying the product directly onto the feet, belly, back, and tail. Next, I will apply to my hands for their chest, neck, and the top of the head. It is very important not to spray the product directly into face, eyes, chest, or to have them breathe it in directly. This is a safe product. A wonderful product. It helps with inflammation, and is soothing to irritated skin. There is a bomb that kills fleas, and larva up to 6 months, it is in a purple box, cans are two ounces, and it comes with three cans, $9.50-9.99. This does not get deep enough into the carpet. I wasted 5 cans treating every cloth surface in the house and it did not solve the flea problem. I have a 2 bedroom apartment and used 1 can per room; still had fleas a day or two later. I would recommend the Adams carpet powder for carpet and furniture, and a spray with eugenol for other surfaces. That genuinely helped, along with treating the pets with capaction pills daily for a week.Jo

We have successfully used this product since it's ìntroduction many years ago under it's original name of Raid Flea Killer Plus. After application, it's residual action will continue killing even spiders, cockroaches and more for several weeks. For that reason, you do NOT want to shampoo carpets – wanting this residual action to continue to kill any insect, including hatching flea eggs that existed in carpet before spray treatment. Lifesaver!!! This is unbelievably fast and effective. Used it on my carpet, furniture, rugs, cat beds, clothes, blankets, pillows, and anything else not nailed down. Immediate kill. We had an flea infestation outside in our yard due to about 40 feril cats living next door. I have one inside cat that I don't allow to go outside. I rent this house to begin with and let's say the owners weren't fond of yardwork. I would spray this on the bottom part of my pants and shoes before going outside to work and then again before coming back in. It worked better than I could have hoped for. Outside ofcourse I had to use an entirely different approach but I found the magic solution to remedy the problem. Flea infestations cannot be resolved overnight. It's hard, really hard work to kill off the problem. But with this stuff it made life livable again and helped me battle the outside and not be sick anymore. It got to the point to where I had a hard time finding it in stock on the shelves. There was about 2 weeks I couldn't get it and I honestly thought I would lose my mind. So stock up on it if you have a big problem. I wasn't stingy when applying it. I wanted to make sure they died. But I can't thank Raid enough and Walmart for carrying it therefore saving me from packing up and moving. Just don't expect a flea problem to exist and think I can use 1 can and it will all go away. Fleas don't work that way. You have to keep working the problem until there's nothing for several days in a row. Follow my advice and you will win your battle!!!! After purchasing at Walmart Smyrna, TN, we used the flea and tick shampoo on our 8 month old golden retriever. Upon ending his bath we noticed he was bleeding and we rushed him to the animal hospital. Upon arriving we learned these products fully BURNED our puppies skin. I am disgusted by their tag line “powerful products you’ll recognize” — your products are so powerful you singed my poor dog. Now after a heafty vet bill our dog is under care for the next two weeks and we are left hoping he heals safely. DO NOT BUY!Barbara

This shampoo works pretty well. It washed away the fleas. It's for the sake of killing fleas not necessarily repelling them. If you like natural treatments using lavender oil as preventative measure can help with that. We got a very young pup infested with fleas and the fleas left sores on the poor pup. After a wash of this you could already tell the sores were looking much better and the fleas were falling off. I wish I took before and after photos of the dog. It cleaned the pup up pretty well and smells good too. We also got the flea drops so doing that tomorrow.sarah.b

I like this product. It works very well when sprayed directly on infected areas , i.e; carpets and bedding. Most Walmart stores don't carry this product where I live. I found it by chance at a store I had never shopped at and decided to try it out. I couldn't find it again when I wanted to get more so I looked it up on line and then decided to order 4 more bottles from Walmart on line. A partial order (one bottle) took a week and a half to get to the store closer to where I live and it had leaked out half its contents. A refund was given. Never heard about the other bottles but will check my bank statement to see if it I was charged for it. I still like this product but will have to drive out of my way to pick it up at the other Walmart in another city. It has a pleasant smell, is all natural and comes in powder, shampoo, and spray form. I have tried the shampoo and spray and purchased to powder too. I am using the shampoo directly on my cats and spraying the floors, rugs and bedding with the spray. I have not tried the powder as of yet. So far, we are winning the war on fleas!catsmom

I've used this product for almost 3 weeks. And she's got more fleas now than she did to begin with. I gave her a bath and there were what looked like hundreds of fleas in the water. While she was in the water I picked quite a few off of her by hand. Two or three times a week, I get her down and pick them off. It says this product repels, but it really seems like it attracts them! She scratches all the time! And has running sores. I sure hope this stuff is guaranteed!!! Do not give to small dogs especially non spayed females In 2020 gave our 2 small dogs flea away within a month the smallest dog developed swelling and lumps in her mamory gland which quickly developed into cancerous tumor she died within 2mos. The other dog developed the same swelling but it progressed very slowly she now has the same type of growth on her we don't know how long she will live. It can't just be a coincidence.Gayle Erickson

These did not help my dogs when it came to ticks. My dogs live on our farm, so we have no fleas. They were already on a monthly prescription heartworm medication, and have always tested negative. To be fair, I cannot say whether or not this product was helpful for mosquitoes. I cannot say I do, or do not, recommend due to my experience.Deborah

I have been using this powder for over 7 years. I love it! It works the best, with no fumes or inhaled reaction like other products. It works as soon as you spray it on to your bedding, etc. It is hard to find in stores. I originally purchased it at CVS, per a recommendation from the pharm. but you cant get it at all CVS. When I called to order this product, I was first told to use mattress encasing against dust mite allergens…. and I agree, but only after using this product to kill the dust mites. Encasing doesn't kill dust mites but it is a good barrier between my nose and the allergens the dust mites produce. If you don't kill them, they continue to produce allergens, forever. I have been using food-grade DE internally for about 6 months and I have noticed the improvement in my skin tone and elasticity (I am 45). I have especially noticed how well it seems to perk up my skin when I've taken short breaks from it. As soon as I start taking it again I immediately notice the difference in my skin. I bought this product because of the ingredients being less harmful to pets. Sprayed this on my cat beds and cat tree, now my cats will not even go near them… and it has been two days. They still smell and their beds feel weird so now I have to wash them. Not sure if the product works with fleas but my cats HATE the smell. I was going to use this product on my couches but after their reaction to their beds, I’m reconsidering.Rachel

I previously purchased this product and it works great. I have 3 cats and the smell being essential Oils did not phase them. I did not put it directly on the cats but sprayed my carpets etc and it did not bother them and the fleas do not like it. They hibernate into my flea traps which are excellent as well. I have bought five bottles of this so far because I like the product that much. It’s easy to attach to your garden hose and you’re able to treat a large area with one container. I like to use this heavily right on the woods line of my yard and then cover the grass. The ticks are horrible right now in NH and I feel this product really helps control them. The scent is also not overbearing and I actually enjoy it. It smells very natural and dissipates rather quickly. I’ve treated my lawn twice so far this year only because it ended up raining the following day after treatment. Overall, I really like this brand. It’s safe to use around my children and pets while keeping ticks and bugs at bay naturally. I would definitely recommend this product.Acira27

I received this Vets Best Flea and Tick Home Spray as part of Walmart’s Spark Reviewer program. This is a plant-based formula that is supposed to help kill fleas, ticks and repel mosquitoes. Well I can tell you that it has other uses. I use this in my garage and spray it around my cars. I know that these ingredients we repel rodents as well as spiders. Living in a rural area I have a problem with squirrels nesting under my car hood and chewing the wires. This spray helps to repel them because rodents do not like peppermint as well as the other ingredients. What I also like about this spray is the ingredients are natural not poisonous. I have sprayed it around the perimeter of my property as well as inside my screened in patio where my cats like to hang out. I am just trying to repel all the fleas and ticks before they become a problem. Since the ingredients are natural I would not hesitate to spray on the cats if necessary. I would rather give them this then put those pesticide topicals on them or feed them flea pills. The cats don’t seem to mind the smell either because they still stay on the porch after I spray it. I also feel better about the product being natural because when it seeps in the ground it will not to contaminate my well. All you smell is peppermint and clove. I can deal with that a lot better than insecticide poisoning. I will continue to buy this product and I recommend it.Curlygirl59
