Reviews:
I bought the Men and Women's bike from BJ's. I just started riding a bike after 30 years of not riding one and this one is basically an intermediate bike to me. (probably would be to others as well) I had to replace the tubbing in my wife back tire after she rode the bike 200 feet or less from the house and there were no nails on the street and I couldn't find any type of indication of why the tire went flat. (tubbing must've been old or dry rotted-idk) Changing the gears on my bike is pretty easy, but since I did that, I still haven't been able to get my bike to stop making noises while I'm riding it. (chain noises) The only reason why I didn't return the bikes to BJ's is because it's too much of a hassle and the price was economical.JB
Poorly made bike that had many problems from the time we unboxed it. Would not go into multiple gears initially. The tension was so far off that it basically had to be refine from scratch. After 3 hours of work and additional adjustments, the bike worked. Our 9 year old was ecstatic. After each ride around our neighborhood on roads/sidewalks, something would need tweaking. Then, after 6 days of light use, he was riding down the street and fell over on the bike. He was unharmed. We asked what happened and he said, "It felt like the bike just collapsed when I pushed down on the pedal." The back brake was grinding badly. My husband started resetting those when my son noticed that the wheel looked "wobbly;" my husband looked at the wheel and noticed it was significantly bent. That explained why the brakes were not working! Not sure if the wheel was bent and just got worse as he rode it or if it was compromised and just snapped, but it was not normal. We returned the bike to the store and received our money back.HoosierMama5

This was my first time putting a bicycle together and I have to say, it was quite the experience. Usually, when purchasing a bike, I buy in-store because it's already put together. But, because I was having this particular bicycle delivered, of course it was shipped in a box. The good news is the bike came partially assembled. The bad news is that some of the assembly instructions were unclear. I ended up having to watch a how-to video in order to complete assembly. The back tire was already assembled, so that was a relief. Also, installing the handle bars and bicycle seat was fairly simple. The challenging part was having to disassemble the front brake in order to be able to put the front tire on. After installing the front tire, the front brakes would not work. I spent a lot of time trying to figure out why the brakes weren't working and eventually had to give up. But, I did read in the instructions that it's considered safe to use only the back brakes, so that is what my son will have to do. I gave the bike a test run and everything seems to be ok. It rides smoothly and has a pretty comfortable seat. Please be very meticulous when putting a bike together for the safety and well-being of the person riding it.TWalt
The Havoc is a decent ride for my little guy, though we had two specific problems. First, the major issue was the right pedal fell off during a ride as we approached an intersection. Needless to say, I was very concerned and examined the pedal attachment carefully. The manufacturer had incorrectly tapped the crank arm and therefore cross-threaded the hole where the pedal spindle bolt attached. During the assembly in-store, I assume an associate had just threaded the tip of the spindle enough to seat the pedal without dead-lining the bike (FYI Managers – that's dangerous and careless). From now on I will inspect every part of the bikes from Walmart. Unfortunate that we have to take this step. The second issue was the chain guide. It appears to hug the bike frame but can be adjusted. Not a major defect but it need to be revisited on future production. If yours is rubbing the bike, you'll hear a rough tic-tic-tic sound. Just move the guide away from the frame. The bike frame is solid, the balance is ideal for the price, and the shifters are functional though not quite smooth. I would request that Walmart consider this not as a negative review. The bike is a good start, but please hold your vendors to a higher standard of production. This could be an awesome affordable bike. Make Sam Walton proud.InformedConsumer

Reviews:
The overall bike and look is great. My 10 year old son (4'6") loves it and it is a perfect fit. I would say the brakes are a little difficult to get dialed in( i took it to a bike shop after assembly, as noted in the instructions) and some of the welds could be a little cleaner but again overall, great bike. This is the second retrospec bike we have purchased.Paul K.

Reviews:
Worked well until the free hub body broke, Buying a spare was far from easy. Specialized probably buys big assembly or the whole bike from China with no documentation of what parts have been used other than whats in the broad spec. So they had no idea how to retrieve a new body or tell me what they have used. The only tip I got from Specialized support was incorrect and would not have fitted since the part is NOT Shimano as they suggested. The friendly local specialized mechanic suggested I rebuild the rear hub myself trying to find a complete hub with same spoke diameter to replace, and maybe not chose Specialized for next bike.Daniel
I got the previous model for my one of my kids so I was very happy, was about to pull the trigger on another for my 5yr old (tall kid) and I saw they were updated and $50 more than the 20”. No brainer so I ordered it. The bike will be easy to put together from anyone even if they never turned a wrench. BigS includes all the tools needed. The packaging although gives you a well put bike, due to the shipping, it damaged the top tube paint but specialized support helped me out with a return and exchange for a perfect one. FedEx needs to be a bit more careful with these little beauties but they are worth every penny. Happy Riding!PROEDGEBIKER
This was the bike both my kids learned how to ride a pedal bike on. They both graduated from their strider bikes to this and never had training wheels. It's a great starter bike, it's light, forgiving, and perfect for most kids about 2-3.5 years old. It's obviously well engineered for small people, the step over height is right for them, the cranks and pedals are sized right, and they don't have to think twice about picking it up and riding. We bought our bike from Center Cycle in Renton, Wa. I'd gone in to pick up some part and my son who was about 2.5 at the time picked up this bike off the rack in the shop and rode it around the store for 20 minutes with no training wheels. He's only had a strider up to this point. I proudly brought home the bike that day.Evan

Reviews:
Bought two of these for my 8-year-old boys. It is one of the best youth bikes on the market today, miles ahead of the usual department store stuff out there. It is light and has high-spec components, like the Altus derailleur. The brakes are no-name, but seem to work well. Some bikes of this size have heavy suspension forks, but when you have a well-made bike like this, you don't need it. The low weight and good handling/geometry of the bike make it a go-anywhere bike for general use, including gravel and light mountain biking. Most kids this age aren't hitting the kind of stuff that needs suspension. It's a proper bike for kids in serious cycling families. Most kids' bikes are heavy and don't ride well. This is a quality product.Dennis
Such a great bike for my 10 year old. Super light and he can ride so much further now without fatigueAdam

C’est simple il ne sortait qu’en trottinette. Depuis qu’il a le trek il ne fait que ça, demande des rando (20 à 30km) et se lance des défis grimpette dans des raidars à 10%++. Merci la transmission ! Nice Bike – But the seller (PACIFIC CYCLE) is useless. I assembled the bike with ease and attempted to adjust both derailleurs unsuccessfully. Contacted Pacific Cycle to determine who would handle the warranty to complete the adjustments to make the bicycle usable, but was told that it was my responsibility. UNACCEPTABLE that a sales company won't stand behind the product they sell. Had to pay $75.00 to have the bicycle adjusted so I could use it as intended. You're better off buying a Schwinn through a retailer – they will assemble, adjust and ensure that your bike works the way it is supposed to before leaving the store. VERY DISAPPOINTED with the lack of responsiveness of PACIFIC CYCLEmike

My son wanted a bike for his 11th birthday. We browsed online and, it seems I had passed this one because the rating. We wound up getting a different one from another big website that had damage when we got it, so my husband took our son to the local Target to find a bike he liked in person. Of course, my sons favorite color is blue so he wanted this bike- but of course, he didnt look up reviews ahead of time. Well, the reviews are true about how junky this bike actually is. The paint easily comes off, the front brake broke, the brake lines somehow got holes in them(??). My son was distraught that he had to return this bike, since he was having so much fun riding it. We opted to spend more $ and wait a few days for the local bike shop, to get better, lasting quality. Please skip this purchase, if you are considering it. I hope Mongoose pays better attention and does better, like they did when I was a kid.Lisa W
We initially purchased this bike during the Pandemic so we didn’t have a lot of options at the time, especially for the price point we wanted. My son didn’t really start riding it regularly until December 2021 but, so far, it has held up and we haven’t had any major issues. The only minor issue we had, which others mentioned, was that the handle bars would come out of align. This was an easy fix, though. We just had to pop the small cap off, which was located on the stem of the handle bars, and tighten the bolt. Since doing this, we haven’t had any other issues. Maybe we just lucked out and got a good one or maybe ours was assembled differently, but I will post an update if we run into other issues! So far, it has been a good bike for the $.
The color is amazing and we’ve got this bike last year and it took me a whole year to write this review and the bike is still in perfect condition. Hasn’t broken at all! I’ve already replaced the tire tubes from so much ridding it’s gone through. Maybe we got lucky and this bike is not defective at all!! I’m sorry most people had problems. I also didn’t put this bike together, it was built in store and we bought it builtDC

First some general comments about ordering online and not in person at a store. The bike was packed very nicely, no way things would get scratched or damaged unless the shipping company completely destroys the box. Assembling was pretty simple and came with good instructions for the average person to follow. However, in my case, and I suspect in others as well, I had to do some more than simple tuning of the brake and derailleur cables: the front v-brake tension was unbalanced so only the right side of the brake was actuating and the derailleur tensions was completely off so that gear #1 couldn't be reached. Neither were huge problems, but just know that if you're not mechanically inclined, you may have issues getting the bike setup properly. That said, I'm confident their customer service will help if you reach out: though I haven't contacted them about technical issues, I had an order hiccup and they were very pleasant and responsive when addressing my problem. As for the bike itself, it is for my 10 year old boy (4'5") and it fits perfectly. The lightweight frame is what drew me to this bike, it is very accurately rated at 23 lbs, which is significantly lighter than most other bikes of the same caliber and price range which I shopped for. The components are not the best, but expected for a bike like this, similar to what my daughter's entry level Giant XTC Jr. mountain bike came with. The kickstand was a nice addition as it doesn't come with all bikes. The only thing I really wished it had was a quick release for the front wheel. Overall, nothing really to complain about or praise, but once you factor in the price, it's a great entry level bike if you're looking for a solid step up from the heavy, big box store bikes. While on sale, it's also just a tad bit cheaper than some of the popular competition like Giant and Specialized. Unless you are completely scared of using tools and doing some minor tweaks on a bike, I would highly recommend this bike.Alan
I almost never write reviews because I don't believe my opinion matters. However, this bicycle demands I share with other potential purchasers. I bought this for my 10.5-year-old son. Our first ride was yesterday on the American Tobacco Trail. We rode half the trail, 22 miles round trip. This bicycle allowed him to ride the entire distance in beast mode. He led most of the ride. I bought this particular bicycle because it's light and mechanically simple. I didn't want half-*** suspension components and extra gearing that just make a bicycle heavier and more difficult to ride. This bicycle does everything it's supposed to do, and does it well. Braking and shifting are effortless. It's lighter than the 20" bicycle he has at his mother's house. Yet, the frame geometry fits him better ergonomically than that smaller bicycle. I honestly don't know what could make a more expensive bicycle better and, therefore, worth the extra expense. Money spent on this bicycle for your child will only be wasted if your child isn't the correct size for it. Otherwise, you won't regret this purchase for a second!Elliot
Was comparing this bike with the Trek Wahoo 24 which is about $110 more. The Premier 24 wins on a lot of points (kickstand included, shorter 140mm cranks, double wall rims, more upright riding position, and price). The Trek Wahoo has better gears and shifters hands down. Our area has lots of hills and the mediocre gearing of the Premier 24 really needs that extra low gear in my opinion. In the end, we decided on the Premier and I changed the 14-28 freewheel with a 14-34 Shimano freewheel and changed the shifter to a thumb/index shifter which cost about $80 in parts. But now the bike shifts better and has that extra gear for the hills. My kid is able to climb some of the hills in our area. The bike is about 23.6 lbs with everything including bottle holder. Hope Polygon Bikes will update their gearing for kids bikes and give them more range for adventure beyond flat roads. Oh, that rear derailleur protector already paid for itself. After a mini-crash on loose dirt road, that protector is all scratched up but prevented derailleur damage. Great Job!E

Reviews:
While putting this together I noticed the nut where the handle bars was damaged and the handle bars wouldn't slide in, Also the end of the handle bars were damaged. After finding some parts locally I managed to get the handle bars on, only to find that the bolt for the seat was missing. I got another one of those, needless to say I probably will not buy another bike from here.Bryon

Reviews:
Bought two of those from Erik's, great customer service and fast shipping. My 10 yr old twins, boy and girl, love their new bikes, we are hitting the trails and having fun. I thought the frame would be a bit bigger, it is a size 13". It's perfect for them now but they will outgrow it faster than I thought. I might have to buy taller seat posts to stretch the bike's life span. The stock ones don't go too high. The Cedar Park Unracer

Reviews:
great tread making it stable and sturdy built makes it feel like a quality bike relative to othersMichael L.
This bike is amazing, the big wheels help the little guy keep up with the adults.Senad
The bike is nice in the way it has a lot of adjustments for growing. The twist shift is easy for my 6 yr old to operate and the 6 gears lets him zoom past his friends and keep up with dad. The front fork is kinda a joke. Was expecting a lot better beings it's a Trek. It's very stiff and very clunky. This is where this bike lacks big time and also was the part he was excited about. I would have paid the extra for better forks and disc brakes. That's really my only complaint. Otherwise not a bad little bike would be great with one two improvements.Jeff
