When it comes to transporting bikes, a quality bike rack is essential for Honda Pilot owners. With the Pilot’s versatile cargo space and family-friendly design, it makes an ideal adventure-mobile for cyclists. However, you’ll want to consider a few key factors before choosing the best bike rack for your needs.
First, examine the weight limits and bike holding capacity. How many bikes do you need to carry and what is the combined weight? Measure your bike frames as well to ensure the rack will properly fit them. Pay attention to materials too – sturdy steel or aluminum racks tend to offer the most durability.
You’ll also want to determine the rack mounting style. Does your Pilot have a hitch receiver or would a roof rack system work better? Look at ease of installation, vehicle clearance, and how the rack secures the bikes. Compare features like built-in locks, reflectors and padding to protect your bikes and SUV.
With a wide selection of bike rack options available, take the time to identify the right blend of features, capacity and convenience for your Honda Pilot. Careful research will lead you to the perfect rack for seamless bike transportation and memorable two-wheeled adventures.

Reviews:
This is a great two bike rack that I had about a year or two ago on my old car. It worked perfect on it! I got a new car last year and just got this rack again for it and it says that it’s compatible with my new car. I used it a couple of times and just now noticed that the bottom part of the rack had dented the trunk and left nasty scratches that now I’ll have to pay for since their customer service is garbage. Don’t put a vehicle on the list that isn’t full compatible… if you get this rack I recommend putting some extra padding on the bottom part of the rack or it could possibly damage your vehicle. It says it holds 70 lbs of bikes. The two bikes I use with it are way less than 70 pounds and the way the trunk is shaped causes it to push in and the metal ends up scraping the trunk. It should be one long foam padding on the bottom instead of one piece of foam on each side.Hunter
This rack might be able to hold two childrens bikes, but definitely not two adult bikes without serious problems. I would imagine the rubbing and bumping together just to get them on the rack would damage the finish…not to mention traveling with them. Theres just simply not enough space between the brackets. Its also the dickens to attach to our Equinox, even though it specifically states that it fits this car. I wouldnt want to carry more than one bike on it, and you need an additional bar (sold separately) to carry a womens bike. We returned it!Beverly
Great price $ and quality. Very solid construction and basic sturdy design. I have a MTB 29,r – 39lb. – this rack can hold 70lb. Single bike racks are usually 35lb. Weight capacity. Only have 1 bike to transport, but didnt want to risk the weight factor. Best thing out there for the $40 dollar price! Highly recommend. WAGWAG

Reviews:
We were a bit apprehensive at first, not necessarily with the bike trailer, but more or less with the 1.25 hitch that we had to opt for as the dealership misinformed us on the size of hitch compatible with outback.I am happy to report we have had no problems with the sturdiness of this bike trailer as we were afraid the 1.25 would result in a wobbly outcome. As other reviews mentioned the trailer itself was a bit difficult to assemble. However once assembled and loaded it was exactly what we needed. We are comfortably and securely able to load our 2 Trek bikes and have no problem with the arms or straps. The only complaint is the thickness of the pin used to lock the trailer to the hitch. Could use a better pin something a bit thicker and sturdier for it to feel very secure.JAAM
First off, I'll mention that assembly was a bit harder than I thought it would be. The long bolts connecting the two pieces of frame together took a bit of finesse (and a rubber mallet) to get them to slide in and line up properly. It helps if you take the part of the frame where they screw in (on the outer rail) off first and line that up separately. Once I figured that out, the rest was a breeze. I really like the ease of use with this thing – bikes go on and off in just minutes. Way easier than it used to be trying to squeeze them into my car. I also enjoy how light it is, and how quickly it comes on and off the hitch. Although the price is a bit high, it is well-made and worth it. Highly recommend.Nate
There are things I like about this rack, but I think it's quite overpriced for what it is. I found it easy to attach to the hitch and I like the overall design – the arms feel secure, I like being able to fold the rack easily, and it does hold my bike well. I was also able to use the farthest rack position as a makeshift bike stand while I did some work on the chain, which was handy since I don't have my own stand. However, for this price point, I expect more than to have to use my own cheap Velcro strap to secure a mountain bike with average/slightly wide tires. I'm not using some kind of niche fat or cargo bike here – why doesn't the Kuat come with an integrated, high-quality strap for this purpose or better yet, a design that doesn't require that extra step at all? I also find the ratchet strap for securing the rear tire to be poorly placed. You can't get the bike on the rack without crunching the strap down and having to yank it out from under the tire manually, which is definitely increasing wear and tear already. Finally, the lock that comes with the rack for securing the rack to the hitch felt very cheap and online reviews suggest it can be broken very easily (a problem when you live in a high-theft area, which is not Kuat's fault), but it did lead to an extra cost to buy a more secure lock. Long story short, I'm glad I have the rack and it gets the job done, but it's premium pricing for an average/good product. I can't give a 4 or 5 star review when the value is skewed like that. Highly recommend waiting until this goes on major sale.liz4500

Reviews:
Having fenders is no problem, Just drop the arm just in front of the Fender. My E-Bike is 55 lbs & this rack has no problem supporting the weight. Loading my bike is very fast & easy. The front cradle holds the front tire securely & the rear tire sits in a shallow channel. Kuat does offer a ramp witch would make this process even easier. The integrated cable locks are a good way to lock your bike during transport. The Rack over all fills heavy duty & solidly built. Cosmetically it’s very beautifully painted too. Cons, The key hole to the Cable locks has a little spring loaded cover in the hole. So you have to put the key in at a angle to push it out of the way. It took me a Minet to figure that out.Mike
Ok, I love my biking and hate my bike racks. To say that most are put together with string and bailing wire is an understatement. I had one brand that was so top heavy that I honestly thought I would lose my bikes along the highway somewhere. That is until I bought the Kuat from REI. Expensive!!!! I bought the NV and then the doubler so I could have 4 bikes at once. I have been beyond impressed with this rack. Solid, stable, easy to use and very secure. Every part of this rack has been thought out and engineered to perfection. I know this sounds kind of over the top for a review but as a dentist, I look for details and precision in everything. This delivers in spades. I cannot say enough good things about it. So just suck up the price and appreciate the incredible quality that you are going to get for the money.DrKK
Trek Farley 5.0 (large frame) with 27.5 x 4.5 tires (Bontrager Gnarwhal Fat Bike Tire). Kuat phat bike kit installed. Cradles in lowest position. The ratchet arm will not come over the top of the tire without leaning the bike, swinging the arm up, then centering the bike/tire under the arm. Attached is the video Kuat sent me. This metjod is fine for one bike, but with 2+ bikes that need to be leaned, the other bikes get in the way. Kuat support says "Unfortunately at this time we do not have a solution". It seems like a nice rack otherwise, but Kuat's specs are misleading.Stephen K

Reviews:
I recently purchased the Apex 3 bike rack for my truck. It's solid and well built and fairly easy to put together. I did have to also purchase 2 bar extenders because of the two ladies bikes I have for my girls. The arms and clamps that hold the bikes securely in place won't work with the female bikes center bar going from the seat to the handle bars without the extenders. They were $25 each. The bikes fit tight on the rack and you have to figure out the best way to get them on correctly. There in not much wiggle room, but that's also good to keep them in place. The only real disappointment I have is my truck tailgate doesn't come all the way down when you tilt the bike rack backward. In their advertisement picture the tailgate is open all the way. Everything else about this product I'm very happy with!Tom C.
I ordered this one online, directly from Discount Ramps, after returning a flimsy 2-bike rack to Home Depot. This rack will carry three bikes very securely, and has very sturdy construction with a full 2" frame to fit perfectly into a 2" hitch receiver. The movable clamps will hold any bike at any position on the frame, and wheel straps are also provided if you want to be super-secure. I would buy this rack again with no hesitation, and recommend it highly.Robert
The rack arrived when promised. The box was in another box, so everything was protected. One tube was bent to the point of preventing assembly of the left, distal tire support. I used one of the smaller tubes to straighten it and completed assembly. The velcro straps for securing the tires were missing. I found ones at Home Depot that are orange with reflective stitching and sewn-in clips. They can stay attached to the rack and secure the tires when loaded. I also added reflectors to the third bike position and the underside center support to increase nighttime visibility of the rack whether it is down or folded up. The materials and overall construction are good. It is solidly built, but light enough for one person to handle. It is easy to position the bikes. They feel well secured to the rack. With the optional straightening device, all play between the rack and receiver (which is inherent in all hitch/receiver systems) is eliminated.Dennis D.

Reviews:
Unless it's a classic men's ten speed style frame, the closest bike in will rub on the pivot mechanism. First two bikes I tried would have been horribly scratched up first use. Not listed on the box, but at the end of the manual, is there is nothing to support the bottom and keep it from swinging. They tell you to use a strap, which could be done effectively, but don't include one. The anti-wobble feature is more wishful thinking than real help. If you used it for two bikes it would be decent, but you didn't buy a two bike carrier. Disappointing as this is a very well built unit with a great powder coat paint job.John
I absolutely love this bike rack. Its great to just leave on your hitch and not have to deal with the constant putting it on and taking it off. One pin allows you to pull the rack back and open your teunk in seconds. I’ve been carrying 3 bikes on it for two years and no sign of deterioriating. Light rust that i could easily sand and spray paint. I had one of the pins break off, bit thats likely my fault for not leaving it installed. The ONE issue I have with the rack is that it only has one bolt for install and it moves just a smidge andcmakes a noise whenever your driving ove bumps and such. Make a new version with TWO bolts and tje bike rack is perfectly sound:)ChitownChef
I bought this in July 2020 and was hoping for something economical and sturdy. I definitely got what I wanted. The rack is only rated at 100 pounds, but I was able to fit three adult bikes with no problems. There are alot of comments here about the hitch being wobbly, but mine is sturdy with minimal movement. Tighten the bolts folks! I thoroughly inspected the rack after our trips and found no crack in the welds or bending of any parts. Someone else mentioned that the rack had no straps, but the rack I purchased had all three straps that had plenty of length to secure the adult bikes. We are happy with our purchase and would recommend it for the price alone.dpat3537
6. Yakima Frontloader Bike Rack
Product Details:
The frontloader is one of yakima's most versatile upright mount roof racks. it boasts square, round and direct-to-factory crossbar capability right out of the box. it easily handles wheel sizes from 20 inches, to 700c road wheels, to large 29er mountain bike tires. even if your bike has a unique frame design, there will be no problems carrying it because the frontloader holds the wheels and not the frame. plus, it won't scratch your paint!
Reviews:
I was extremely lucky in that nobody was behind me when this happened. I purchased a Yakima Frontloader in 2017. It’s basically lived on my car since then. I travel a lot and the thing has reliably carried my bike across the country (Washington state to Florida) more than once. I changed tires to a thicker tire on Saturday. Not considerably thicker…but thicker. I have a Specialized Vita. Sunday I was driving on the highway going about 65 after having attached my bike the way I usually do. I hear a huge THUNK and look in my rear view in time to see my bike FLYING through the air. I pulled over and thankfully the bike was largely undamaged because it landed in the soft median. That’s a testament to Specialized’s engineering. However the rear strap on my Frontloader had snapped in half. I have no idea how the tire slipped out of the holder but it did. I loved this rack up until this point. Maybe it has an expiration date? Maybe I shouldn’t have left it out in the elements? Either way, this seems like an extraordinarily dangerous issue and the fact that there isn’t a strap on the front to secure the front tire is, in my opinion, quite an oversight.Christina
This is a sturdy roof bike rack that does the job well (assuming you can follow instructions – I had no issues with loading, slipping, falling off or anything else). If you have a kids' bike with 20" wheels (or any with those small wheels) it is the only choice Yakima offers without taking the front wheel off. Not having to remove the wheel (and carry it in the car) is a big plus. We took this on local drives and a 400 mile round trip on highways and it worked great. However, unless you are limited by that small wheel size, I strongly recommend you instead pay a bit more and get the Yakima HighRoad. It will NOT take the small wheels, but otherwise does the same job better and easier: * It is more aerodynamic when collapsed down. * It is easier to install and remove. * Turning the locking knob requires much less awkward/tiring torque of your hand. * The HighRoad locking knob has a better grip and provides audible feedback when properly dialed (it clicks when at proper torque). * The FrontLoader has an external locking cable which cannot retract and adds drag (and looks less clean) compared to the HighRoad, which has a retracting locking cable. * Because the HighRoad has dual front rack clamps, it is arguably more secure than the single front rack clamp on the FrontLoader. All that aside, it's still a good rack that does the job well. As others have noted, taller vehicles will be a bit more awkward to load, especially full sized bikes. But I had no problem (being tall) and a stool would work well, If the rear (sliding) wheel tray is properly placed, there are no issues with the bike sliding onto the roof or rack as one reviewer experienced. One last minor issue – the plastic rear endcap (installed after the rear tray is slid on) seemed of cheap quality and in fact did not clip in securely, so I left it off. (It has no functionality other than capping the hollow rails.) Again the HighRoad is superior as the endcap stays on and the rear wheel tray can slide to allow installing/removing the rear rack clamps.EricM
I bought this rack about a month ago and its been great! Installs on the roof by just tightening the 2 handles, so easy I usually just install and remove for each use. Although it can be a little difficult to get my 29er ontop of my SUV, I love that it frees up the interior space and tow hitch. Being able to quickly adjust to fit my 29er and carbon road bike (both with through axels) is a huge plus! Only downside is the extra charge to buy the locks…S11d

This is a really nice rack and easy to use. It appears to be more heavy duty than cheaper ones and it's as nice as more expensive ones.Anonymous
The bike rack is easy to assemble and seems quite sturdy. It seems to hold the bikes quite well and I like that the tires are not spitting in the wind. I have not yet Driven down the road on a long trip with it, so my comments are my initial reaction.Paul
Bought this a few weeks ago but the first time I tried to install it on my 2015 Suburban it was difficult to get the security cotter pin inserted into the hitch receiver bolt, due to the limited amount of space that the Suburban hitch received has to work with. After realizing that there was no way that my wife could install it by herself, decided to return the carrier. Also, the security provided by this carrier was limited at best, and the strapping system was not sufficient on its own to keep the manufacturer from feeling the need to include an additional loose strap for the user to wind in and around the posts and the bike frames to provide a second level of security to keep the bikes in place while being carried.RM Biker

Bought this through MEC, didnt come with the keys. Contacted manufacturer and they pretty much told me tough luck.Tom
Fits great into the HoldUp. It gets pretty big – but it holds 4 bikes easily – what do you want? Again – like the HoldUp, I wish I bought it years ago! Recommended to anyone!Richard

Great product and sturdy on the back of the boot for our 2 bikes.Caleb
This saved me about $1000 US. Well worth every penny. So easy to put on and take off it seems like a steal at the price I got it for. Great for transporting two bikes to and fro. Such a novel idea seemed like it would not work. So not the case.phatguy29

The fasteners are the same durable nylon fabric as the straps that mount to the vehicle. I've used the rack a couple of times and have appreciated the flexibility of these bike fasteners as our bike frames are dramatically different. If the fasteners were clips, etc. they would not be as accommodating.robinxoxos
Great equipment! Holds the bike in place, doesn't hurt the car, folds up nicely!mross1881

Works like a charm. I have a Nissan Juke and this carrier worked perfectly. I had to buy an Allen bar for my women's bike to hang the bike on and then it worked great. This carrier is very sturdy and I feel the bike is very secure and stable on the car. Easy to put on and take off. I am 64 and can do it myself. So glad I found this so I can now go riding without having to borrow my husband's van to cart the bike around.lvdex
Excellent Rack. Fitted correctly and tightly this single bike rack is sturdy does not allow for rattles or damage to your car. SUV perfect! Staff are incredibly knowledgeable and courteous at Bentleigh store.Mark
nice sturdy item but could not use on my Chevy Spark hatchback as it entirely blocked my license plate. not willing to risk a traffic ticket. probably would work fine on a larger vehicle.Joseph

Reviews:
I have used these for a number of trips over the last couple months ranging from long distance trips across Wisconsin to short distance trips to my local trails. Rack mount the bike very firmly and is exceptionally easy to use. The material for the v-channel is not made of the best material but does not really need to be based on how the rack works so no issues there. The only think i have it losing a star for is that the underside of the brackets is sharp and does not have much surface area and even though I have had zero issues with the rack moving, it does mark up the cross bars on my Traverse.A.
You can't beat it for this price. It's a super affordable bike rack that attaches easy and holds bikes securely. I've left it on the roof of my outback for a couple years and it shows no real signs of wear. I like it so much I bought a second!Andy
I bought two of these. I put a 29er mountain bike on it and though it’s a longer bike, it still fits. I've had it for a month now and used it for 3-4 trips, and so far it's holding up. Can't beat the price. It does look kind of flimsy when I took it out of the box; but after I installed it, put my bikes on it, and took it for a drive, the bikes were stable on it and didn’t sway at all. And beeing that it's a fork mount (vs. the upright mount by Swagman), it’ll to be more stable. I just have to go through the hassle of removing the front wheel every time. The U-brackets that it came with clamps-down and fits better on square or rectangular-shaped roof racks. But if you have oval-wing-shaped roof racks like on mine (standard on Subaru Outback), it might not be as stable so you have to check it once in a while to see that tightener screws haven’t come loose. It did one time on mine. But overall, I'm happy with this bike roof rack—-given the price. The paint on this is on the cheap side because after about a month and some rainy days, I did notice some rust starting to appear so I sprayed the joints with some grease. I hope this helps slow-down any rust and doesn’t corrode into the welds that hold it together. I’m not sure if more pricier brands are any more rust-proof. Don’t know how many years this will last but if it can last me 3-4 years it might be worth it.kevsam

Reviews:
Set up was easy and it felt secure. However I wasnt pleased about the metal part of the strap that latches on to the car. It had no protective fabric to keep it from potentially scratching my car. I loaded only one bike thus far, a MTB. I had to definitely tie down both of my tires to avoid it spinning and shaking on the highway. Otherwise, it is a decent rack with an old school design that works!Lena
This product available from 99 Bikes is just fantastic, the quality of its manufacture is excellent as is the engineering that must have gone into its development, fits onto the boot of my Ford Fairlane and does not block the number plate in anyway leaving a clear view for my rear camera with my bike attached. It’s a great product from the USA. 99 Bikes service was also great , delivery was within time line and in perfect condition .Peter
This bike rack Is not very strong whatsoever I have one electric bike but it is small 20th fold away bike and it is not very heavy in comparison to other electric bikes. It looks like a bmx bike with a battery. I do not feel safe connecting my bike to this rack. The rack is made for 2 bikes and I am only using 1 bike and it still doesn't feel safe. I have the smallest battery ever made and the bike is still pretty light by industry standards but the rack makes me feel uncomfortable. If it's said in I add that this was for children's bikes I wouldn't have bought it but I haven't returned yet because I tossed the Box and it's almost not worth it considering the price that was paid which was fair but I just do not like the lack of input in the add.mikevigg

Could not find quality bike carrier or any at all, looking at local stores and specialty shops in my area to use on my new fiat 500X. This item was well priced, well built, easily to assemble and even told me to order the separate top support in the description. (which I did, and it fit perfectly) This carrier also has the directions to mount it on my other cars! I could not be happier with the quick delivery, cost and quality.acelawler

Very good quality and solid build. Easy to setup and able to secure my two bikes without issues and most of all – with less effort. I didn't expect or perhaps didn't see on the description – that this item comes with AUD 10M insurance cover from the manufacturer (AU/NZ/US only) upon warranty registration – which is really cool. Overall, I'm really happy with this purchase.Ed D. R.
Too high on SUV roof to safely load and unload bikes Quality seems good. Difficult clamps to secure to car roof rails, should be redesigned for easier installation Returned CarrierWinfried
