Best Dyson Vacuum For Hardwood Floors (2025 Update)

Our old vac. died and my husband has always wanted an upright vacuum cleaner. As he is the one who does most of the vacuuming I told him to buy whatever he wanted. We have always wanted to try a Dyson but the price was always too expensive. Myer had this one on a good special so we got it. We have 2 long haired big dogs who come inside regularly and of course leave fur behind on the carpet. We have carpet all through our house with tiles mainly in the wet areas. The vacuum cleaner is heavy but my husband finds it is not much harder to push than the old barrel vac. because of the powerful head. The suction is excellent and seems to suck up so much more dirt and fur than the old one. The power head is quite wide and does not easily get into some of the narrower spaces the old vac did. It has a very long power cord which is great but I do miss the an auto rewind feature. Moving from hard floors to carpet is no problem. This vac. does not have adjustable suction so on more delicate mats it is harder to use. A flexible extension hose is attached to the upright handle along with different floor tool attachments. It is able to be used for those more difficult to get to places. I found the flexible hose very strong and not particularly flexible, and tended to pull the vacuum over if used too roughly. This is my least liked part of the Dyson. The canister is fairly easy to empty though the dust does tend to cling inside due to static electricity and needs a strong shake/tap or something put into the canister to help dislodge all the dust. Time will tell as to its reliability.DebWy

I absolutely love this vacuum. The ONLY reason I gave 4 stars is because it’s heavy. I’ve had it for 10 years I feel like. This poor thing has been through the ringer and used for many things (some things I probably should’ve used a shop vac for 🤷🏼‍♀️)but has performed so well. I’ve YouTube’s and taken apart before to fix clogs and different things and I have to say it’s easy to work on. I just got it serviced for the first time ever and it was well overdue. This vacuum is by far the best vacuum I've ever owned. My boyfriend and I purchased this before we moved into a new apartment (ALL CARPET) back in May 2015. Our Kitty before moving was an outdoor cat and had to transition to being an indoor cat when we moved into our new place. The combination of our 1100 square foot apt and our now indoor cat caused quite a lot of dust/hair/dirt. I am very allergic to cats so this was quite the dilemma for me. Thankfully this vacuum does an amazing job at sucking up cat hair/dander/dust/dirt and sometimes even things you don't necessarily want to vacuum up. My vacuum and I were doing great once a week vacuuming up everything I desired…until it wasn't… The wand you use to vacuum stuff up has a few different attachments depending on what task is at hand. My task last August was to vacuum up all the excess cat litter/lint in our combo bathroom/cat bathroom/laundry room. All was going well until I stuck the wand in between the wall and the side of the dryer trying to make sure I got every piece of lint hair etc. All of a sudden I hear a noise where I could tell I vacuumed something bad up there and could tell the suction was being impaired.. Somehow I vacuumed a mini sized BIC lighter that got wedged in the middle of the vacuum wand. I literally tried every way I could think of to try to push it out. I tried sticking a long dowel down the tube to try to push it out which only broke my wooden dowel.. then I tried to lubricate it with some water/oil which also didn't work. Finally after two weeks of attempting to dislodge the lighter I broke down and bought a $20 replacement off Amazon and then proceeded to snap the busted lighter stuck in it one in half (took a number of attempts so clearly this is some well made plastic)molly.p

Vacuum cleaners have slowly been making the transition from uprights that you drag around the floor (common design for many decades) into hand-held models, both wired and battery powered wireless. There are many similarities between makes and models, but Dyson has decided to up the game with their new “Dyson Outsize” model. The Dyson Outsize is big… VERY big, for a hand-held. The dust and dirt collection bin is 150% larger (or more) than most other models on the market, and the roller/cleaner head is 25% larger as well. As a result, you can in theory, vacuum your whole house without having to stop in-between rooms to empty a small bin, as this one is large enough to handle most homes without stopping. The larger cleaner head also means fewer passes over a floor to cover the same ground compared to smaller units. Two batteries were included with my unit, so in theory you can also do that same house without having to recharge (well… maybe – more later). I wasn’t wanting for accessories. Mine came with the larger cleaner head, a small power head for cleaning furniture, three dust/brush ends that would be good for small furniture or cars, and a thin longer crevice tool, also good for cars or behind cushions, etc. The main extension wand, two batteries, two chargers, and a wall hanging unit completed a very full box. Note, there is NO floor stand included as with some other brands (boo) – just a bracket you can screw into your wall to hang the Dyson from when not in use. I didn’t need to really read the instructions for assembly – literally you just snap the extender into the main dust bin body, and snap whichever end tool you want to that, and once the batteries are charged and you attach one to the handle, you are ready to go. Pulling the trigger starts the unit and a small, round display screen facing you tells you which power level you’re using (auto mode, eco, or boost), as well as gives you a per-minute estimate on how long your battery will last before giving out. Dyson’s claim to fame on their models is that they will maintain full suction power until the battery dies, as opposed to weakening as the battery does, and I found this to be pretty much the case. Eco mode is for light cleaning (I found this best for harder non-carpeted floors) and gives you about 60 minutes of run time per full battery charge. Auto mode will vary the power depending on type of surface and need – more of a medium/normal clean, and gives you roughly 20-40 minutes of run time (I averaged around 30 minutes). Boost mode is a lot more powerful for deep cleaning, but, hold on… at best you’ll get 5-8 (or so) minutes from the battery using this mode. The batteries are pretty hefty in size and weight, and take about 3 ½ hours to charge (each). The Outsize is powerful. It did pull up dirt from my carpet that a lesser model missed, especially in boost mode. The auto mode did a little better than many others, and the eco mode again is just for light cleaning which I found to be best picking up crumbs from the kitchen wood floor (the cleaner head adjusts automatically for floor type). It was reasonably quiet, and the HEPA filter near the top of the bin filtered the air well, though it did create a “breeze” that knocked a few sheets of paper off of nearly tables as I passed. In terms of cleaning power and battery life so long as I kept it on auto or eco, I consider this to be a very good machine. Now… one thing: SIZE. As said earlier, this is a very large hand-held vacuum. By the time I got near the end of my house, my arm could definitely feel that I had been carrying a larger machine around. Not really a huge issue for me, but if you are buying this for someone else such as an older relative, a smaller person, or someone who’s not the strongest person around, they may have issues with the size and/or weight. I have few other complaints about the Dyson Outsize, but one is as mentioned earlier, the lack of an included floor stand, which some other brand models have. Not everyone is able to hang this from their wall (or if in a rental/apartment, you may not wish to screw a wall mount into the wall). A floor stand is, in my opinion, more convenient, so it would have been nice to see one included. Last, the price. Dyson is a premium vacuum brand, and you do pay for that. It does come with a full two year warranty (personally I wish it were more like 5 years at this price point). Only you can decide if it fits into your budget or not, but again, it is a very good machine. So, with the considerations you’ll need to take with size/weight/budget, I do recommend the Dyson Outsize.AtlantaGreg

This review is going to compare it to our older V10 Absolute. 1. Tools included in Outsize Absolute version are: High Torque XL cleaner head – provides better coverage (tool is wider) and also picks up dirt better than 'Direct Drive' on V10 – It adapts to the surface and speeds up or slow downs based on the resistance.. Laser Slim Fluffy™ cleaner head – this is much better than 'Soft roller' on V10. Laser seems like gimmick but actually helps finding missed spots on flat surfaces. Hair screw tool – works better than Mini motorised tool from V10 Combination tool – same as on V10 Quick-release mini soft dusting brush – same as on V10 Crevice tool – same as on V10. 2. Battery life Compared to our Dyson V10 its it has much better battery life – each setting lasts substantially longer than on V10 and with better suction. Battery in Outsize is swappable and second battery is included in the box so you you can swap it any time you run out of juice. Conveniently two chargers are in the box as well so you can have one attached permanently to docking station and you can use second one to charge second battery at the same time. Spare battery and battery life makes it very convenient even for large houses where V10 might not last long enough for full cleaning. 3. Size/weight Outsize is significantly larger (haven't measured) and heavier than V10 (2.4kg vs 1.6kg). Suction is better than on V10 probably at least partially because of that and you don't have to empty it as often but at the price of vacuum being more bulky and less convenient as cordless device. Generally this makes the Outsize much more convenient for large surfaces/floors but less convenient for hard to reach places, stairs etc. My wife still haven't decided if weight/size justifies the improvements but kids always pick V10 over Outsize when cleaning. 4. Other notes Tools are compatible between both versions. Same tool tested on both vacuums works better on Outsize than on V10 which I think can be attributed to better suction on Outsize compared to V10. Docking station is not compatible between V10 and Outsize due to different size of battery. Display on the back is nice addition and gives you graphical overview of remaining charge and after few seconds of continuous use shows estimated time so you have good indication how long battery will last. Button on back of Outsize to select modes is much more convenient than slider selector on V10. Tools are compatible between both versions. Same tool tested on both vacuums works better on Outsize than on V10 which I think can be attributed to better suction on Outsize compared to V10. I just received this Tuesday and so far I like it. I told myself if I didn’t have a life changing moment, I would return it for the price of this thing. I’ve been vacuum shopping for over a year since giving my vacuum away. I have all tile floors and I’m old school, so I can work a broom and mop lol. I figured I’d be okay and would get a really good one later. Well, later finally arrived!! I did some research and read a lot of reviews and decided on this one. I have a steam mop with a light and I cannot tell you how frustrating it is to come across a spot of missed dust in a corner. Off top, I knew the 2 brush heads and attachments would be exactly what I needed to combat the surface dirt and dust. I binged vacuumed my whole 3 bedroom apartment yesterday testing this thing out… I vacuumed appliances, vents, ceiling fans, area rugs, windows, base boards, furniture, etc. I did have to charge the chargers twice because I used them down to 0% using all three modes (depending on the area), but did not charge fully as I was not waiting the 3.5 hours. My second charges started with about 75% each charge. With that being said, I’m sure I can finish all my floors in one session. I typically vacuum main areas all together and then rooms separately. This was an abnormal cleaning session and I was just all over the place geeked. This thing is hands down an efficient tool. Definitely 5 stars for efficiency. There are so many tools for every job, and this really picks up the dust. I’m not sure how it does it because it handles so smoothly and is not very loud. The suction does not death grip the surfaces but is able to smoothly glide along and hit the particles just right to clean them up. It picks up bigger particles as well and it picked up a small clusters of dog hair from our Yorkie. She does not shed a lot but sometimes her hair will gather in a corner. Just for comparison for other dog owners. It does not kick particles back out over the floor at all. It’s a one pass for all tools as well, not just the brush rolls. Going over the base boards was really easy whereas before I was cleaning them with cleaner solution and a rag. My only gripe is that the Outsize is HEAVY!!! It really is. It’s easy to push over the floor and carpet but actually lifting the thing up to dust ceiling fans was treacherous. I am going to get a stepping stool to see if that helps not having to reach as high. I will continue to brain storm how to use the reach tools to shorten the actual reach of my arm. I think that will be the ultimate solution is finding new ways to reach the crevices as comfortably as possible. Storage and space wise, this thing is awesome. I just mounted my wall bracket and will be picking up the stand today. I will like using the stand in each room while I’m vacuuming instead of trying to set the thing down or lean it somewhere safe. So, I would recommend buying the stand. Overall, I would say get it! The price is steep but I’ve never had a vacuum cleaner that cuts my cleaning time by more than half so I feel that it’s worth the investment. This is my first stick vac ever and it’s exactly what I wanted, but I have nothing to compare it to. I just know the reviews I read are pretty spot on. I am so upset and disappointed with the DC50. I had no idea such a well known and well respected firm such as Dyson could produce a vacuum that won't move on carpet. My parents have had Dysons since they came out and always loved them. I saw this one and though ideal size for my house, lightweight, brilliant. Stupidly impulse bought before looking up reviews online. Now I see its a common problem. Our carpet is medium pile, yet the vacuum initially is hard to push and I mean really hard, then the rotating brush just stops working which makes it practically impossible to push. I press the button to get the rotating brush going again, one push and it stops. Its not a fault with the machine because a lot of other people complain about this issue. I just can't believe theres a vacuum on the market that won't work on carpet. I now feel stuck with a very expensive mistake. One plus though, I cannot fault the suction (probably why its so hard to push) but the tiny bit of the living room I managed to do before slumping and crying because I wasted so much money, it sucked up loads of bits and dog hair that our old vacuum had completely missed.lynsmith

Although, it pains me somewhat to write a review on a vacuum cleaner, the Dyson range is clearly noteworthy…. and then some! I have been a proponent of the Dyson range for over 20 years; I continue to be a ardent supporter and the Dyson Small Ball Multi Floor vacuum is no exception. I have, today, retired a long-serving (7 years) DC12 – with full honours! It served us extremely well (until yesterday, when it sadly gave up the ghost). Although I was completely satisfied with the retiree's performance; but, we had not appreciated how tired it had become. A 4-bed house, 2 teenagers, 2 dogs and recent new carpets. The "new kid on the block" has hit the carpets running. We had new carpets a year ago and today's first outing for the Small Ball has been first class; visibly discernible results. Outstanding suction, reduced noise and effortless to manoeuvre around the house. Thank you to the Dyson team for delivering another absolutely first class cleaning product! Having used this vacuum over the Christmas and New Year break when all the family and their dogs descend onto us, in excess of 5 Labradors, I can truly give the Dyson Small Ball 5 stars. On a daily basis it copes with the fallout of my 3 dogs and messy husband and although the dust bin is small and fills quickly I can only assume this is because it is so efficient, my carpets and rugs look way cleaner and it adjusts from hard to soft surfaces with ease. The compact and neat design of this machine has many advantages, the first being storage, I like my cleaner to be available but not in the way, this little beauty can be popped into a cupboard or even tucked away behind a sofa or armchair! (my little trick) With the retractable handle it folds down into a small unit and in a small house would be an ideal choice. The cleaning properties of the Small Ball are improved by the smaller brush head, it gets into little spaces easily and the wand features are amazing, the vacuum is well balanced and does not fall over when you are catching cobwebs, so much better with the tools on-board, nothing gets lost. With regard to the small dust bin, I found this a positive feature as you have to empty it on a regular basis thus avoiding the musty smells that can arise when the dirt is left in the bin to fester for a couple of weeks! You need to take the bin apart to empty it thoroughly if like me you have animals, as the hair shoots up the canister and can wedge in the top, but it's easy to do as long as you are not heavy handed. The Small Ball is an all round great machine, it easily copes with a large, messy house and I can highly recommend it.Mamabaz

I was fortunate enough to receive this for FREE through a local buy nothing group. After using it, I can say that I would dish out the money for this if I had to purchase it. I have 5 cats that SHED, a lot. They also track litter and food all over my apartment. I have tried so many pet vacuums and none of them have done as great of a job at picking it all up as this vacuum. It seriously amazes me every time I use it! I haven’t experienced any annoying clogging problems like all of my other vacuums, and it picks up literally everything. I don’t have litter bouncing back onto the floor when vacuuming, and my carpet feels almost new once I’ve vacuumed.ashley .s

Previous to buying this DC41 Mk2, I’ve been an owner of the original Dyson DC04 for over 10 years which was still going strong, despite the odd consumable spare being required. On the whole though, it never let me down. I decided this Christmas to treat the house to a present and retire the DC04 for car cleaning duties. Anyway, first impressions were good. Suction, cleaning effectiveness, ease of the wand attachments and manoeuvrability – quite a bit better than my DC04. I really like the ability to switch of the brush bar for hard flooring! Also, I think it’s much, much quieter which is a huge bonus for me. The build quality is also ‘on-a-par’ with the DC04 – which is very, very good. But, and it’s a big but – I have an issue, which is cleaning it. By that I mean the insides obviously. After only 4 uses in a small 4 bedroom home, the machine seems to be clogged up – and this isn’t down to a dirty house! In my view, the DC41 is simply over engineered. Compared to my DC04, there are now more crevices, seals, joins and bits of ‘stuff’ where the dust and hair collects and it’s not that easy to remove. The old DC04 might have been heavier and a lot more basic, but took seconds to clear out the debris and getting it working like new. This DC41 seems to be losing cleaning power already e.g. glitter not being sucked up from carpet very well from the Christmas costumes! I checked the brush bar head & base plate and it’s absolutely full of dust which seems to be clumping together in hard to reach areas and lodged behind rubber seals. It’s got to affect the cleaning hasn’t it? For me, this downside of apparently needing to perform cleaning maintenance on it after ever 4 cleans doesn’t warrant the advantages over the DC04. Unfortunately the worst bit – by far, is the bin. Yes, it might be a button press to open up the lid but so what? The rubbish/dirt just remains inside and you have to get your hands in anyway. Not once has it just all fallen out like in the video! The problem is, when you hoover, static is created so most of the dust and hairs just stick inside even after a good deal of shaking. Worse, there are components in the bin (the main cyclone by the looks of it) which don’t appear to be removable (not by the average home user anyway) and there is plenty of dirt in there which I’ll only be able to remove with a long stick/brush. For example, there are hairs wrapped around the very top of the bin (the cyclone) which I cannot get to – again, these will only build up and then affect suction won’t they? Sorry to harp back to the past again, but the DC04 didn’t have the fancy one-click lid but was SO much easy to clean out. Just to make clear, I am a qualified mechanical design engineer so I hope you’ll understand my views are at least in some parts educated rather than an anti-Dyson consumer. In fact, I wanted to love this product – I’m very proud of Dyson and British engineering but something hasn’t come together properly. My advice Dyson engineers – rethink the bin.Cookers

We bought the first of two DC41 mk2 vacuums to replace our faithful old DC07 Origin mostly because as 2 pensioners with arthritis we were finding carrying the DC07 upstairs. After some consideration we bought a Refurbished DC41 Mk2 from the Dyson Outlet. The first thing that amazed us was that the vacuum was delivered to us within 24hrs.. It arrived in a pristine retail box and there was a small amount of putting parts together. This was very easy as clear details are provided and i probably took more time removing the excellent packing materials than assembling the parts. Now 'Refurbished' is an often abused term. but this machine from Dyson looks like brand new in every way and works fine. After using it for a week we bought a second one. We now have a downstairs one and an upstairs one. The 2nd one again was delivered in under 24 hours and is pristine. The cost of two of these machines at the moment is actually less than that of one at the original prices.. We are very pleased with our purchases and very impressed with Dysons' service. This is to replace my first upright vacuum (a Dyson). I just never got used to it having decades of canister vacuum experience. The upright had good power and did floors very nicely but I had issues with the pull out extension. I considered other bagless vacuums but because I like the Dyson upright performance I opted to get this new CY18 canister and it is impressive. It has lots of suction and is one of the quietest vacuums I have owned. I can use the tools directly attached to the flexible hose handle which is what I wanted and it follows like a well mannered dog on a leash unlike my last canister was just the opposite and fought me every inch of the way. I vacuumed the whole house as soon as I got it and it's always surprising how much fine dirt these things pick up.g_ldboise

First, I should say that I am the mother of four fur babies, 2 cats and 2 big dogs. Then, when my boyfriend stays over on the weekends, he adds his 2 more dogs (one big and one small) to the mix. Between the 6 animals and my long hair, you can imagine how much hair is on my floors at any given time. For my entire life, growing up at home and after I moved out, I have always used a shop vac with a pool hose and a long metal pole with a brush head; which my dad created. We always hated the awkwardness of upright vacuums and the spinning heads just never worked on hard floors. After buying shop vacs every few years, because they are cheap and the motor blows, I decided to try the Dyson Cinetic Animal Canister. Thankfully, Dyson was offering $100 off; then with my BB&B coupon and cashback credit card bonuses, I ended up getting this thing for the same price as a normal vacuum costs. After one use, I completely fell in love with this machine! There are some flaws, but the good outweighs the bad in my book. Here are a list of pros and cons that I have encountered while using this machine over the past few months. Pros: • Whole-machine HEPA filtration and Certified asthma & allergy friendly! Woo no smells from the expelled air! My boyfriend really appreciates this aspect! He has horrible allergies, especially because of the cats. After purchasing this vacuum, he can breathe so much better at my house! • No filters to wash or buy! • Holy suction Batman! This thing is crazy powerful. • Suction release trigger for when it eats something it shouldn’t, like curtains. • Tangle free turbine tool worked so well that my boyfriend wanted to vacuum the cats with it! Don’t worry, I didn’t let him. This think works wonders on the carpeted cat-stle (what I call the cat castle or cat tree). • Long wand for hard to reach places. • Everything detaches so easily and the tools fit anywhere on the hose or wand. This makes it so simple to go from top to bottom, vacuuming everything in the room. I can do the ceilings, vents, fans, curtains, windows, base boards and floors! • 21.3 ft power cord and automatic rewind…amazing. • Light weight (because you are only having to lift the wand and attachments, not the entire machine. • Can get under furniture and those hard to reach places…like the ceiling! Good luck trying to get your upright vacuum on the ceiling….or the fans. • I don’t have carpet, and I don’t know who in their right mind would have carpet with animals, but the vacuum worked just fine on my low pile rugs. • Some people say that this thing is awkward to pull around because it is a canister. While that is probably true for someone who typically uses an upright, it is way better than the shop vacs that I have had. I don’t find this thing awkward at all, but I am use to pulling behind a canister. Cons: • Canister waaaaaay to small. To give you an idea, I vacuumed my 1400sq ft home, with one weeks worth of hair and needed to empty the bin 5 times. I wish it was bigger and held more. To combat this, I take my big janitor mop (the ones they use in schools), push it around the house for literally a minute. Then I vacuum. This allows me to pick up the hair and big debris (because my dogs have these big plastic bones that they chew) all at once so that I only have to empty the vacuum once. My boyfriend thinks that a vacuum that is so expensive should require no prep work, but I honestly did this with my shop vac too. It makes vacuuming so much easier and quicker. • Emptying the bin is not as simple as they make you believe. Yes, you push the button, but the door swings down and hangs in the way. The dirt gets all over the hanging door. Then you have to use the provided tool to unstick the hair from the sides of the canister, while the door flaps in your way. The instructions say to minimize dust/allergen contact, encase the bin tightly in a plastic bag. Well this doesn’t work because the above happens. I found the easiest way to empty the bin is to go outside to my large garbage can. • The combination tool is a horrible design. Instead of being two pieces, the small brush slides up and down on the thin wand. I wish the small brush was detachable, because when I use the thin wand to get in cracks (like between the couch cushions), the brush is in the way and the bristles get destroyed. • The wheels on the bottom of the canister roll ok, but for the ridiculous price of the machine, they suck. They should have used the same material as you would find on rollerblade wheels. • Instead of being power controlled, the rotating head rotates due to the suction. I wish there was a way to lock the head in place so that it does not rotate. It sucks up cat litter with no problem, but sometimes, it flings a few pieces out. I typically just detach the head and just use the suction. I think I might buy the alternate head that doesn’t spin. • I found the attachment storage to be random and awkward. Ok I broke down and purchased a Dyson after reading many positive reviews but to be honest this vacuum has not won me over in the last 9 months. The suction is adequate but I am not impressed with the turbo brush on carpets. I have hardwood floors with area rugs in most rooms and the articulating hard floor tool is excellent and mandatory for cleaning in my estimation. The cord is a good length and the tools are well designed and work well. I have to empty the bin once or twice while cleaning 1400 sq. foot home. I have come to dislike emptying the bin. The dirt and dust seems to cling to the bin like there is an electrostatic charge on the plastic and I have to use a paintbrush to get it moderately clean or wash it the sink to get it really clean. After a lifetime of using a bagged vacuum where you just change a bag I fear this bag-less vacuum is just not my cup of tea. I only wished I brought this back in the return timeframe and selected another brand/machine!Telrandy

OMG! I didn't think it was possible, but I've fallen in love with a vacuum. Tried cordless before and dissatisfied with suction, battery life, etc. This model came with all the attachments I could possibly use. Suction is fantastic for any vacuum, let alone a cordless. Keeps a charge long enough to vacuum whole house. Works great on all the area rugs, hardwoods and tile floors. Super easy to empty the canister too. Very easy to change attachments for upholstery, curtains, beds, walls, whatever. It can maneuver into almost any space. I have multiple pets and this baby can handle all their messes. I really loved this vacuum until the motor broke after only one year. I guess that’s what happens when you purchase a refurbished item vs a brand new one. The overall vacuum is great. The canister holds a lot before you need to empty it, and it truly lives up to being a “pet vacuum.” I have a husky and it was able to handle all of his fur. I thought the old vacuum cleaner was doing a good job, but the first use of the Dyson proved me wrong! It pulled up more stuff than I thought possible. I have heard about the Dyson ball for years, but had no idea that it really would make maneuvering easier. Since we have mostly hard surface travertine floors with several large area rugs, I like that there is an easily accessible switch to turn the beater bar off for vacuuming off the rugs without worrying about scratching the stone floor. The Dyson was delivered quickly, it was well packed and arrived in perfect condition all at a Sam's Club price. The only regret I have is that I waited so long to switch to the Dyson.KenLV

I have a total of 4 Dyson vacuums. Unfortunately I purchased 2 of these before I found out how inferior they are compared to the old ones that I have. I really do not like these ball units. If you try to wheel the unit to where you want to start vacuuming, the lock disengages and the head drops to the floor making it hard to get to your location. It is not just a defective one as both of my units do this. VERY frustrating. Then, when done vacuuming, it is really hard to lock back into the upright position. I feel I wasted my money on these 2. The price point at Sam's seemed like a good price, but really, it is not. Will NEVER get another one of these. Very disappointed with DysonAnn

If you’ve never used a battery powered stick vacuum, you’re working too hard. The Dyson V7 Advanced Origin vacuum Is one of the lightest vacuums I have used. Easy to maneuver around furniture and items with a flick of the wrist and with its thin beater bar, it fits under furniture with ease. The battery provides about 30 minutes of vacuuming. At first, I thought this may not be enough considering how much time I used to spend vacuuming. But it turns out once you eliminate the time spent plugging and unplugging the vacuum, minding the cord so it doesn’t get stuck or knock something over, or moving things to vacuum around or under them, I found I could vacuum the house much faster than I ever could before with much less effort. Not that I have much battery left, it’s just about all used up. I do feel a bit of “Range Anxiety” having just one fixed battery and do rush more. A replaceable battery pack as used on cordless drills and other tools would be a welcome addition. This Dyson comes with a combination tool, the wand/pipe, and a de-tangling motor bar cleaner head. with hair removal vanes that clear long hair and pet hair from the brush bar. The motor bar cleaner head seems to work, no hair or strings got wrapped around the beater brush. Be aware that this model comes with just what is listed in the product description, the combination tool attachment. There is no crevice or other attachments which used to be standard. Nor is there a wall mounted charging dock. If you know you will need the attachments, you should look at other Dyson models that include them or purchase them separately. Not a problem for me replacing a well-used Dyson vacuum that came with the attachments which are all still in excellent condition. Not including the attachments keeps the older ones that are in good shape from going into the landfill and should help keep the price down. This seems to align with the packaging which was all fully recyclable cardboard. No foam, plastic or other environmentally bad packing material was used. Replace the wand with the combination tool and you have a very powerful hand-held vacuum to clean furniture, drapes, the car, or whatever you need one for. The normal/low power setting seems perfectly adequate for hard wood floors and low pile carpet. The High-power mode adds a very noticeable increase in vacuum power and noise. Nice to have when you need it, but I found I rarely did. The Dyson is a well-made vacuum. Very nimble and powerful. Up to now we have been very happy with our v10 – great performance and useability. But after 18 months two niggly problems have surfaced as a result of the failure of small plastic pieces that are not sold as replacement parts – you have to replace the whole assembly. 1. The red plastic button that attaches the wand to the body has broken and falls off. 2. The red plastic clip that is supposed to stop the bin sliding off the body has worn away, so that the bin comes off every time you just want to empty it. Both are small plastic pieces that are clearly separate to the main components and should be replaceable – but they are not. I was quoted £121 to replace the wand and the body – that is both extortionate pricing and a total waste of the other parts that are duplicated when you buy the spares. Dyson should do better to support customers and the environment. I will also say that we have a still working V6 (nothing gone wrong) and an old DC04 which has had many parts replaced over its' long life, but it still runs fine and was cheap/easy to fix. I guess that says that they are not built like they used to be. Oh and one more thing – the flexible hose for the V10 also fell apart after a year!Disappointed

I have always been huge Dyson fan as I find their products work well and stand the test of time. This cordless vac reminds me of the one I originally purchased nearly 10 years ago. It is nimble and very well balanced. On a fully charged battery, I have been able to spot clean multiple rooms, multiple times (hard floors with a few small rugs). I have used other cordless vacuums and find them to be unevenly weighted compared to the Dyson. The body of this is somewhat heavy for its sized, but the grip, and overall design are very ergonomic and I feel it conforms to the movement of my hand and wrist seamlessly. This makes the weight less of a concern, which is a factor for me as it determines whether I can effectively use a product or not. I personally wish that the on/off was a switch rather than a sqeeze trigger and that the option for max power was a push button thumb trigger rather than sliding switch on top of the body. Also of note, this model does not include any kind of wall mount kit for storage/charging, where my previous model did. I do find the model to be a bit noisy especially on MAX mode, but it is not intolerable. The beater bar does great job picking up hair without tangling.ArmadaJim

The only good feature of this vacuum is the suction. Also, you do get a great work out using it as it is very heavy. I stupidly bought many of the over-priced attachments, some of which don't even fit, only to find that using them is so cumbersome that I often choose not to. If you want to switch back and forth between attachments and vacuum, you have to hold the attachment hose/wand and the cord in one hand, and the vacuum in the other. There should be some kind of latch to hold the hose when switching, but there isn't. Speaking of the hose, you don't want to get your fingers caught after stretching it because it really hurts. You have to be extra careful to get the vacuum to to click in the upright position, often needing several attempts, or risk dinging your walls when it falls. For the price of the vacuum, Dyson should definitely have a retractable cord. Using the attachment hose requires removing the hook that holds the cord, so it will be completely unrolled (even if you only need a few feet), leaving you with a 20' cord that can and does easily end up tripping you. This vacuum has great suction, but if you're expecting your vacuum to last more than 2 to 3 years then don't buy this because it is made from cheap plastics. I've had this vacuum for just over 2 1/2 years and thought it was really great. I use it for about 2 hours per week, so less than 300 hours of total use time. Just noticed this week the whole lower duct assembly has cracked rendering the vacuum completely unusable. This cracking has occurred due to the step in the owner's manual showing you have to bend the vacuum forward in order to get it to lock into the upright position. This forward bending motion puts a lot of stress on the cheaply made plastic connection near the ball. I don't care if Dyson said it is made from the same material in riot gear, and tested for 50,000 hours. It's a poorly designed part subjected to a lot of stress when attempting to lock the vacuum in the upright position. I have contacted Dyson and they are sending me a part to fix the vacuum, but if it's the same cheap junk, I can see it breaking again in another 2 to 3 years. I expect a vacuum cleaner to last a lot longer than 2 years, given the price paid for a Dyson. Dyson really needs to step up and make these parts that are subjected to stresses much more robust. Even when new the handle part of the vacuum seems rather flimsy. I will not be recommending to anyone to purchase a Dyson. Save your money and look elsewhere.StevenTN

I have been a lifelong user of Dyson vacuums from the very earliest days. I have always thought that they are the best. Sad to say that after 2 years of use I cannot say that about the Animal 2. Just for the record we also have the Dyson V6 Animal which my wife uses because of her Rheumatoid Arthritis. Once a week I will do the heavy duty, top to bottom house clean with the Animal 2. And I don't look forward to it at all. First of all the positives: 1. Fantastic suction 2. I use all of the heads that can be attached to the hose and are excellent for getting into the difficult spots. The negatives: 1. This is a heavy machine. Now I keep myself fit but you get a workout from this machine. Because it is heavy it is not the most manoeuvrable. Somebody like my wife who has RA can forget about using this for more than a minute or two. 2. When using it with the hose when the accessories are attached, the machine does not follow easily and more often than not tips over. It is shocking for doing that. I wouldn't even contemplate using it for the stairs. 3. The hose may be lighter than previous models but honestly does not feel as robust. But so far it has stood two years worth of use. 4. The power cable is sadly far inferior to previous models. It is of cheaper quality and easily gets entangled around the wheels of the vacuum when using the hose and even when using it without the hose. It may be a longer hose (I think) but it gets tangled so easily. All in all, this is one of the worst Dyson's we have had.Andy

Like the title says, this vac is great for small jobs and touch ups. Don't expect this to be your primary vac for a full-sized house. First, the battery won't last that long (even on normal not MAX). Second, since all of the weight is at the handle, it gets hard on your wrist pretty quickly. My last recommendation is to make sure that you empty the dust bin OUTSIDE. It's hard to empty without dust flying all over the place. If there's long hair inside, you're going to have to stick your fingers or something in the dust bin to get it to come out…messy. Recommended when it's on sale.M

Dyson's V8 Origin Vacuum is an awesome vacuum to have . Upon opening my Dyson the instructions were clear, easy to read & understand. Assembly of the Dyson was very easy a few clicks ( slide piece into corresponding piece & they click together) & everything is good to go. You plug cord into outlet & the top of the Dyson. Let it charge for about an hour & you're good to vacuum. You can not vacuum while plugged in, kinda the purpose of a cordless vacuum BUT A charge last roughly 30-45 minutes ( pretty good, definitely a plus) depending how you use it ( whether it's a powerful ( max) or less powerful). Whether you are using max or not it picks up everything. Powerful gets all the dirt & grime out of your rugs or plain floors, I use the less max for bathroom & kitchen rugs, it gets the dirt out but won't suck up your rug up, I love that. The vacuum comes with an attachment that is easily changed, simply click button to dislodge the bottom vacuum & add attachment with a click. That attachment has 2 uses with or without brissles ( brush like) great for getting ceiling or woodwork dust. Dyson V8 Origin Vacuum is a lightweight vacuum and is very easy to maneuver especially in tight spots, gets under couches, chairs & tables with ease. The dirt chamber is clear & and you can see when it needs to be emptied. To empty the dirt chamber you lift up the lever to about 3 clicks & bottom of chamber emptied the dirt. Everything is clearly noted & easy to use. When vacuuming, in order to vacuum which may be a pro or con depending on your liking, you do need to continue to hold the button to vacuum, once you let go it stops. That also could be very useful such as if you suck something up that you're not supposed to just let go and it stops. The filter section can be washed out. I also love that the vacuum itself ( bottom) that sucks everything up has a clear covering that shows if you have hair that needs to be removed & that area is wide enough to be able to get anything out if needed to be. The vacuum swivels greatly to get all areas. I absolutely love Dyson V8 Origin Vacuum makes cleaning a breeze & life a little easier. Once your done vacuuming you can attach to wall attachment that comes with the vacuum for charging station & out of way. A little bit different type of vacuum than what I've been used to. Design and colors are very sleek and eye-catching Pretty much a hand vacuum with a wand floor attachment. Seems like the transition to using as a portable vacuum–like when cleaning upholstery or a car, for example–is easy. Used just once so far. First run through the house filled the canister to the max. Perhaps the only disadvantage I've found was you might have to empty the canister more often that the traditional floor vacuum. Otherwise, carpets now look good and feel great.Treg

Pros: It was noticeable how the rotating brushes really groomed the carpet pile with good suction & is driven by its own motor within the head. The additional accessory; small longer rotating brush used on the stairs without the long poll made a great job of the stairs. Cons: We have just purchased this v8 to replace a v6 animalBoth vacs connections seem not to join rigidly with a bit of play which will eventually put extra stress & would benefit from some kind of rubber grommet between the connecting long poll to tighten both the head & main casing. Also the replacement batteries seem expensive. The charger wire insulation is too stiff & made of some kind of vinyl/inflexible plastic which seems inflexible & eventually splits & uncovers the very thin wires next to the 3 prong plug body, which can then pull away.We have had 5 batteries with the older model & note this new one is the same. They all become split eventually. Needs to be a rubberised material instead.Ian

I got a V7 in Jan 2019. Initially, and for about 1.5 yrs., I thoroughly enjoyed it. Then my housecleaner told me a charge didn't last more than 10 mins. Because I have another plug-in vacuum, I didn't think much of it at the time. Then I hired another cleaner. She brought her own vacuum so it hasn't been used at all since Jan 2022. Just in the last week, I tried to use it and it only lasted about 30 seconds. I had a very good experience with the website and service person on the phone but I have been advised that a new battery is necessary. If that is correct, I must say that I am disappointed in Dyson. I expected better performance from their machine. For a machine that is 3 1/2 yrs. old and only used perhaps 2 years of that (and not solely because I have another machine), I think the battery should last longer. And, if the cost of the battery is 1/4 of the price of the machine, I think that is even more disappointing. And, it's the cost of the battery + shipping. My carpenter husband has battery powered tools, uses them consistently and has never had to replace a battery. That knowledge doesn't help me. Is it possible that the charging station is defective? At any rate, as much as I loved it in the beginning, I'm pretty unhappy at present. I recommended my vacuum to lots of friends at first but now, I would have to tell them the whole story and what to expect.Bren

The Good: The vacuum unit itself is exceptional, with excellent suction, ease of maintenance, run time, and insofar longevity; it competes well with your average full-sized canister vacuums, which is truly impressive given the size of the Dyson. The hype, on this front, is valid. The Bad: However, the well-built central unit is let down by tools and accessories with components made from fragile, heat-molded plastic. Essentially, only the mechanical drive components are made from metal (I think), but everything else is plastic. While Dyson boasts that the main machine body is made from "ABS Polycarbonate" (think: riot shields), the smaller components seem to be made of high-density polyethylene or similar material. Our smaller motorized head unit suffered a breakage in the head-to-guard joint, which should not be the case for a relatively new, seldom used part. The use of brittle plastic in such a high-wear area by the spinning rotor seems at best poor design, at worst planned obsolescence. I understand that full-metal construction is a thing of the past, but "full-plastic" construction is not a viable alternative; some components need to be metal, full stop. The Ugly: Unfortunately, warranty details are misleading as they apparently do not include the tools, and nowhere in the warranty documentation provided was there a distinction between "tools" and the "unit." While I understand that normal wear-and-tear is to be expected and therefore not covered by warranty, I am disappointed with the craftsmanship of a really expensive product that utilizes non-durable heat-molded plastic for high-stress areas, specifically around moving joints. The concern is that having both motorized head units break renders the unit unable to clean carpet or furniture fabric, reducing 90% of its utility, and will cost you ~$200 extra to purchase the new motorized heads. In closing; a great unit overall, but my confidence in the product is let down by the fragility of the core tools and some of the convenient language of the warranty provided. Either warranty everything you produce or make it clear that the warranty only applies to the literal vacuum itself.Marcus_W

Great so far, hope it lasts! Purchased this vacuum at full price, with the the Triangle credit card option to pay in installments (Thanks, Canadian Tire bank!). It definitely has more suction and battery life than the previous models, and it's quieter (we owned model 6, 8 and 10). Really like that the Auto mode adjusts to the surface, and it's nice to see how much juice the battery has left. Having the second replaceable battery gives peace of mind that can clean the whole house (for reference, over 2000 sq ft, 2 dogs). I'm planning to also purchase a second filter, to avoid having to wait 24 hrs before the washable filter is dry and ready for use. Slight negative, because of the bigger cannister size, the vacuum is a little heavier on the wrist, but it's not a big problem for our household. The Outsize has improved some of the largest drawbacks of the Dyson cordless line – the dust bin size and run time (through quick battery change). The upgrade does come with some trade off; the weight and dimension of the machine are also increased, making the unit a bit clunky to use. In upright mode it works just like any other cordless unit, the larger brush head does help pulling in more dirt, and the updated motor can offer some nice boost when needed. The weight distribution in upright mode is quite balanced, however once switched to handheld mode is very tiring to use, as all the weight will be concentrated on the machine, since there is no longer any counterbalance remain, your arm will bare all the weight. This unit is highly capable in cleaning most areas of the house, but will have trouble navigating tiny gaps due to the larger brush head. Although not a unique ‘problem’ for this unit, the trigger design is really unnecessary, as holding it for a long period of time is tiresome. Dyson ‘secretly’ implemented the manual power switch in their V12 model (Asia version of downsized V15), why are they not offering the same for the rest of the world is really a mystery. With all been said, the Outsize is a capable upright unit that offers longer run time and less trip to the garbage can, it trades convenience for size and performance, for those that have larger house is a good choice to consider, however having a lighter unit (like the V8) to clean in handheld mode will save you from some arm sore.VacFan

This review is going to compare it to our older V10 Absolute. 1. Tools included in Outsize Absolute version are: High Torque XL cleaner head – provides better coverage (tool is wider) and also picks up dirt better than 'Direct Drive' on V10 – It adapts to the surface and speeds up or slow downs based on the resistance.. Laser Slim Fluffy™ cleaner head – this is much better than 'Soft roller' on V10. Laser seems like gimmick but actually helps finding missed spots on flat surfaces. Hair screw tool – works better than Mini motorised tool from V10 Combination tool – same as on V10 Quick-release mini soft dusting brush – same as on V10 Crevice tool – same as on V10. 2. Battery life Compared to our Dyson V10 its it has much better battery life – each setting lasts substantially longer than on V10 and with better suction. Battery in Outsize is swappable and second battery is included in the box so you you can swap it any time you run out of juice. Conveniently two chargers are in the box as well so you can have one attached permanently to docking station and you can use second one to charge second battery at the same time. Spare battery and battery life makes it very convenient even for large houses where V10 might not last long enough for full cleaning. 3. Size/weight Outsize is significantly larger (haven't measured) and heavier than V10 (2.4kg vs 1.6kg). Suction is better than on V10 probably at least partially because of that and you don't have to empty it as often but at the price of vacuum being more bulky and less convenient as cordless device. Generally this makes the Outsize much more convenient for large surfaces/floors but less convenient for hard to reach places, stairs etc. My wife still haven't decided if weight/size justifies the improvements but kids always pick V10 over Outsize when cleaning. 4. Other notes Tools are compatible between both versions. Same tool tested on both vacuums works better on Outsize than on V10 which I think can be attributed to better suction on Outsize compared to V10. Docking station is not compatible between V10 and Outsize due to different size of battery. Display on the back is nice addition and gives you graphical overview of remaining charge and after few seconds of continuous use shows estimated time so you have good indication how long battery will last. Button on back of Outsize to select modes is much more convenient than slider selector on V10. Tools are compatible between both versions. Same tool tested on both vacuums works better on Outsize than on V10 which I think can be attributed to better suction on Outsize compared to V10. Noise is very similar on the same settings between V10 and Outsize.Arek

My old Dyson DC16 recently died and I was frantic to find a similar replacement. I was just looking for a cordless handheld to quickly vacuum up small areas or spot clean. I saw this V8 cordless Motorhead looked almost identical to my deceased Dyson and an extra perk was that it had a detachable wand so I wouldn't have to bend down/stretch for those hard to reach places. It was $100 off so I ordered it. Straight out of the box, it was heavy. My arm was instantly tired after trying to use it above my head. Multiple issues: The air powerful air coming out of the exhaust vents blows debris everywhere. My small contained mess was now scattered everywhere! The direct driver power head has a plastic guide on the front. This makes it impossible to suck up anything that is larger than that clearance space. I have a parrot that drops sunflower seed shells and Cheerio cereal on the floor and this Dyson just pushes them in front of the vacuum. No room for them to be picked up because of that guide. Strike 3 for me was emptying the dust container. You have to pull hard upward to lift the head off the vacuum which then triggers the dust container bottom to swing open. This did not work easily or smoothly at all. Basically, I had to use two hands to both pry the top part up while pulling the bottom flap down to empty. If it were just one small flaw, I'd get over it but this isn't an inexpensive vacuum! I am beyond disappointed and now I have to drag it back to the Club for a refund.TMc

My parents own the Animal+ and I recently bought the Absolute+ which both have the same motorhead so was already aware of the capabilities. I did have a faulty battery upon receiving my vacuum which was quickly resolved & a new battery was sent my way immediately. I think this is really a great one for carpet & hardwood floors (with the hard & soft brushes) and also nice for the sofa in the handheld smaller configuration.Akash

Our old vac. died and my husband has always wanted an upright vacuum cleaner. As he is the one who does most of the vacuuming I told him to buy whatever he wanted. We have always wanted to try a Dyson but the price was always too expensive. Myer had this one on a good special so we got it. We have 2 long haired big dogs who come inside regularly and of course leave fur behind on the carpet. We have carpet all through our house with tiles mainly in the wet areas. The vacuum cleaner is heavy but my husband finds it is not much harder to push than the old barrel vac. because of the powerful head. The suction is excellent and seems to suck up so much more dirt and fur than the old one. The power head is quite wide and does not easily get into some of the narrower spaces the old vac did. It has a very long power cord which is great but I do miss the an auto rewind feature. Moving from hard floors to carpet is no problem. This vac. does not have adjustable suction so on more delicate mats it is harder to use. A flexible extension hose is attached to the upright handle along with different floor tool attachments. It is able to be used for those more difficult to get to places. I found the flexible hose very strong and not particularly flexible, and tended to pull the vacuum over if used too roughly. This is my least liked part of the Dyson. The canister is fairly easy to empty though the dust does tend to cling inside due to static electricity and needs a strong shake/tap or something put into the canister to help dislodge all the dust. Time will tell as to its reliability.DebWy

I absolutely love this vacuum. The ONLY reason I gave 4 stars is because it’s heavy. I’ve had it for 10 years I feel like. This poor thing has been through the ringer and used for many things (some things I probably should’ve used a shop vac for 🤷🏼‍♀️)but has performed so well. I’ve YouTube’s and taken apart before to fix clogs and different things and I have to say it’s easy to work on. I just got it serviced for the first time ever and it was well overdue. This vacuum is by far the best vacuum I've ever owned. My boyfriend and I purchased this before we moved into a new apartment (ALL CARPET) back in May 2015. Our Kitty before moving was an outdoor cat and had to transition to being an indoor cat when we moved into our new place. The combination of our 1100 square foot apt and our now indoor cat caused quite a lot of dust/hair/dirt. I am very allergic to cats so this was quite the dilemma for me. Thankfully this vacuum does an amazing job at sucking up cat hair/dander/dust/dirt and sometimes even things you don't necessarily want to vacuum up. My vacuum and I were doing great once a week vacuuming up everything I desired…until it wasn't… The wand you use to vacuum stuff up has a few different attachments depending on what task is at hand. My task last August was to vacuum up all the excess cat litter/lint in our combo bathroom/cat bathroom/laundry room. All was going well until I stuck the wand in between the wall and the side of the dryer trying to make sure I got every piece of lint hair etc. All of a sudden I hear a noise where I could tell I vacuumed something bad up there and could tell the suction was being impaired.. Somehow I vacuumed a mini sized BIC lighter that got wedged in the middle of the vacuum wand. I literally tried every way I could think of to try to push it out. I tried sticking a long dowel down the tube to try to push it out which only broke my wooden dowel.. then I tried to lubricate it with some water/oil which also didn't work. Finally after two weeks of attempting to dislodge the lighter I broke down and bought a $20 replacement off Amazon and then proceeded to snap the busted lighter stuck in it one in half (took a number of attempts so clearly this is some well made plastic)molly.p

Super quick, So much easier than getting the broom, sweeping and hoping to get it all with the dustpan. It helps keep my floors so much cleaner. I love that I don't have to deal with a vacuum cord either. I actually keep my floors clean every day with this than if I was sweeping or using a traditional vacuum. I also love the attachments, it makes getting to harder to reach places easier. The clip/button to empty is a little hard to press at first, I felt like I was breaking it, but I confirmed with the directions I was emptying appropriately (I was) so I kept pushing and it worked. It also gets easier to empty the more you use it. I can't even tell that I have an older version for the price I paid. My mom has a newer version and this one stands up to it the same. I think the main difference I notice is emptying the canister but I'll take that for the price. I've also used this to vacuum my couch since we have a dog and cat who like to use that as their bed and it works like a charm to get the pet fur. I will keep this forever!tess.goeller

So for some reason I used to be against the expensive Dyson products. I even used an older corded vacuum that made me feel that I was correct in my assumption that they were way over priced. But after buying a Hoover corded, where it quickly failed with an irreplaceable battery. Followed that with a cheap corded version, ok but a pain with a cord. And then a cheap knockoff of the Dyson style that has very little suction, and now I broke down and bought a Dyson to try it because the price was right. First off these ARE better than the cheaper knock-offs. A lot more suction with these. And all the parts fit together better and smoother connecting and disconnecting. Coming from an engineering background I immediately noticed how so many little things had been done right. I am impressed. I hope it holds up. If I had bought a Dyson in the first place I could have purchased the most expensive version for what I spent on all the others.aruba4me2

I have had my Dyson v7 for about two weeks now, and I have nothing but good things to say about it. The size / weight / no cord / maneuverability is perfect for getting to every spot that my old vacuum could not reach. I can now vacuum under the bed, on the bookcases, the stairs, the HVAC air return, etc with ease – and it also works great in the car! The suction is good, and having a simple bag-less canister is great. The only issue I have is not with the machine, but with my choice of which Dyson version to purchase. My Dyson v7 works exactly (actually better than) as advertised, but sometimes 30 minutes of run time (which is what is advertised for the v7) is a little shy of what I need. This is not the fault of the vacuum, but I should have purchased a Dyson rated for 60 minutes (the v10 or v11.) Luckily the recharge cycle is not that long – so this is not too much of an issue. Overall I am very happy with this purchase and would recomend it to anyone who wants to make the task of vacuuming easier, faster, and more enjoyable.StevenS

Thirdly, I needed it to be able to clean hard floors, two cats can produce a lot of hair surprisingly, then again so can my wife but i won't go into that just now! Fourthly, the ability to empty the container without the contents spewing all over the place or creating a dust cloud. On all aspects the Dyson multifloor has performed outstandingly! It has a long hose that is easy to detach and easily reaches the full height of my ceiling without having to stretch, likewise for my stairs, it reaches the top tread ( admittedly at full hose length) without the need for me to take the whole thing with me. Emptying the container is simply a click of a button and its done, after my previous cleaner, this was an absolute pleasure. I read a review that said cat hair etc wraps around the drum, i have to say I;ve used it now for nearly 4 weeks and the drum is as clear as the day i bought it. My last cleaner was continually getting snarled up with hair etc, leaving me to cut it out with scissors or a knife – not a pleasant task! So, the good points; Long hose reach (2 metre) long cable length (5 metre I think) awesome suction on hard floor or carpet and is adjustable! easy to empty Reasonably light weight. Compared to the Shark its light! Very easy to manoeuvre Bad points; there is only one attachment holder, this has to hold the long nozzle and the small head. Its not really a problem as such, just me being lazy Overall this is a fantastic product and I would highly recommend it.GJW66

A pleasure to use this new Dyson as it is a good looking creature, nice to handle and convenient to empty. The suction is powerful and the machine is relatively quiet to run compared to previous vacuum cleaners I have owned. Initially I had a little difficulty following some of the diagrammatic instructions in the manual, but once mastered the clicks and snaps required to attach/dismantle the various tools become second nature and it is so easy to switch from one cleaning mode to another. I particularly like the extra long lead which means that I can do virtually the whole house without unplugging, and the bendy long attachment which enables me to vacuum between the radiator and the wall to remove the dust of ages. The machine is very manoeuvrable when turning because of the ball design and the suction control means that I can do a thorough vacuum or a quick once-over on differing floor surfaces. Emptying the bin is quick and easy and because it is transparent I can see straight away when it needs doing, with no messy bag to change. I wipe round the bin with a moist cloth to keep it looking good. The filters need looking after and rinsing through with cold water at least once a month, and must be thoroughly dried before returning to their specific sites within the machine. Some of the tools sit on a peg at the side of the machine so can be carried around with it, especially useful when the stairs need vacuuming. The long stretchy hose reaches most of the stairs whilst the machine is on the ground floor. All of my friends and relatives who own any type of the Dyson vacuum cleaners absolutely made me believe that this product is the top of the line and the best of the best on the market. Well…I decided to see and check it out for myself and see how good this product really is and if it is really worth the price that it costs on the market. So when i received this vacuum cleaner the set up process was extremely easy, not confusing at all with a help of the instructions, it just takes a couple of minutes to snap in the parts into where they belong and the vacuum cleaner is ready for use! Right after I set it up, I couldn't hardly make the vacuum cleaner stand up straight, it would be constantly falling backwards, but that did not distract me and I decided to just look through and see what specific functions it has and does, and that's where I got disappointed. First of all, unlike the advertisement of this product states that it is a lightweight vacuum cleaner, it is actually not lightweight at all, i think its pretty heavy as it is around 15 lbs in weight, and that is what pretty much any other vacuum cleaner out there on the market weights. Also I have immediately noticed that the two attachments that do come in the box, are completely impossible to get attached anywhere on the side of the vacuum cleaner! That was a shocker! While vacuuming my carpets daily I love the ability to just snap on the attachments I need onto the hose and use it at any time I need them, this vacuum cleaner does not make it any easier on me, as the attachments only can be snapped on the actual hose while vacuuming , so that means that any time you need to use an attachment you have to go and find it wherever you placed it and then you will be able to use it, it is kinda very disappointing and not convenient whatsoever! That just means that I have to find a place where to store extra attachments and that is loss for me. Also I have noticed how small the dust chamber is, any of the other vacuum cleaners that I have ever owned had way bigger dust chamber which means you don't have to empty it out as often. The good thing about the dust chamber is that you just easily open it up with a snap off the button, so you will never make any mess. The cord of this product is pretty much as long as any other vacuum cleaner, which is about 18 feet or so in length, which is a plus. I like when I can adjust to my carpet height, as it gives me an opportunity to actually control how well my vacuum cleaner will suck up all of the dirt and dust off my carpets and floors! This vacuum cleaner does not give you that option and it is extremely disappointing! I put this Dyson to a test, the same one I put all of my vacuums through – I dumped some dirt on the carpet and vacuumed it off, little did I know, is that this product would not be able to accomplish that! The dirt was still on the carpet, right there just sitting, and this vacuum cleaner just picked up the top layer off!!! Right after that, I brought my other vacuum cleaner (which is actually only cost under $100) into the room and it sucked all the remaining dirt right up!! Unbelievable! So yes, that was the only thing for me that I had to see with my own eyes in order to really decide for myself how good this product really is, and it left me absolutely disappointed, and I am actually surprised! So yes, while everybody screams and states that this vacuum cleaner is actually the best on the market, I guess everybody has to find out how good/bad it really is on their own. I guess the only feature that I actually do absolutely love about this Dyson vacuum cleaner is the steering effect, which allows me to steer it in any way possible in order to get in the toughest spots to pick up the dust and dirt, the steering function is pretty much the biggest plus and the greatest function of this vacuum cleaner. I have always used a canister vacuum, when my last vacuum became unrepairable I purchased the dyson canister. The dyson canister vacuum is super heavy, particularly if you have stairs to carry it up in your house. The power head handle is retractable for better storage, but it won’t stand up on its own. You are constantly bending over to pick up the handle. The power head for carpets doesn’t have a release button on it, you have to bend over and remove it yourself. The canister gets caught on literally every corner, it always tips over due to it only have 1 wheel on the front. The retractable cord only retracts half the time and does so at the speed of a snail. Most times I have to bend over and guide the cord. The power head works only selectively. It will quit working randomly while vacuuming carpet, sometimes I can’t get it to start working again. I will never buy a dyson canister vacuum again. I will try the stick vacuum only because the canister vacuum has good suction.summer12

I purchased this vacuum back in Jan and decided to use it a few months before writing a review. This is my first dyson (I do own a stick dyson, but use it more for quick jobs) and im not sold on it at all, nor will I purchase another. This is not made for carpets in my opinion, and is really just for hard floors. The carpet piece isn't great at all, has stopped working on me, or doesn't pick up until you've gone over it many times. Also pet hair sticks to this vacuum alot and I find myself vacuuming my vacuum off. I would not recommend this vacuum unless it's just for hard floors, and for the price I paid $499, I could have gotten something with a proper beater bar and that actually works well on all floors.RC87

Did some research before this purchase, and I am concerned on the battery life. Therefore, I recently purchased this vacuum instead of the cordless ones. Design is nice and stylish with all tools. Nonetheless, I am a bit disappointed on a few things on this product. The main reasons I picked this model are "No bags to buy. No filters to wash or replace, and no loss in suction", and "no need to touch the dirt, the hygienic bin emptying system drives out dust and debris in one action, so you don't have to touch it". As a result, i would rather pay a couple more hundreds for it instead of the other models in the market. However, I used this machine twice and it is kind of disappointing. The design is cool, and it kind of drives it out in one action, but not completely. some dust or debris still to the filter or tip. And the other thing is that it is kind of hard to close it after shooting/driving it out. I needed to try a few times in order to close it and make a mess on my foot and floor. This is not something i would have expected. and i am not sure if the lock is durable/will last. The suction is good, but from my experience, it requires emptying the bin after vacuuming one or two room or so to keep the suction going (even though the dust has not even reached the "max line" yet) lastly, this machine comes with a few tools, which is nice. It is rather easy to clip it on and off and can use different tools on different floors or areas. I am not sure if there is some defect in my machine. I noticed that after using the "quick-release combination tool" and the turbine head, it seems to have some dust on it and I had to wipe it after use. I am not sure if there is some gap in between the "joints" of the tools or it is due to other reason. I may have to go for an exchange or return.Rick
