Best Epilator For Black Skin (2025 Update)

I couldn't wait to receive my Braun Silk-épil 9 Flex 9-020 Epilator. The first thing I've noticed was the lovely case that it came in. It will help keep the shaver and attachments together, and the case will be handy during travel. I have to say that I was once used to using an epilator, but since I haven't used one for a while, I needed to reacclimate myself to using an epilator once again. Unfortunately, I had a difficult time tolerating the Braun Epilator, but I am sure I will get used to using it soon. Each of the attachments worked really well. The shaver gives a close and smooth shave, but it doesn't provide a very close underarm shave, and the facial cleansing brush does a gentle and effective scrub/message. Most of the attachments are easy to clean with the exception of the epilator head. I have tried different cleaning methods without much success. Some of the attachments seamed to be very poor quality. I now know that I will prefer using the shaver on dry skin, since it seamed to do a better job on dry skin. I, also, know that the epilator will be easier to use in the bathtub or on wet skin. The battery took a bit of time to charge. The Braun Silk-épil 9 Flex 9-020 Epilator appears to perform a bit better than the previous one I owned. I would only recommend it to friends and family member that have used an Epilator in the past, and they don't mind the pain. I just had parted with my old Braun Silk-épil that I had owned for many years. It made me pretty sad. So it was great to be chosen to test the Braun Silk-épil 9 Flex 9-020 Epilator. It is so much quieter than the Braun I had before and it also feels a lot better in your hands. It comes with three different heads (shaver, epilator and massager). The epilator head is flexible to the right and left, so it follows your curves better. There are three different parts you can put on it depending on what area you want to epilate (massage roller, facial, skin). The shaver comes with a trimmer cap. And then there's the massager which is a nice gimmick. I tried the shaver and the epilator with the massage roller. I'm not such a huge fan of epilation in general. But it was bearable even though I haven't epilated my leg in a long time. It was as painful as expected and I switched to the shaver. The shaver worked really well. A lot better than expected. And pretty quiet. I think from now on I'll shave my legs with the Braun silk-épil more often than with my razor under the shower which often irritates my skin. I'm very impressed by this product and if it ever stops working I'll sure get a Braun again. It's such a great quality product. This epilator works very very well and the battery lasts a long time between charges! I love it. I started by waxing my legs and then have continued to epilate every few days or once per week for a few months. It’s less painful to use frequently to catch the hair that’s growing than to try to do a full hair removal with it. I also use on my armpits and it is super fast; I love it and recommend! Just be aware that it does hurt, I would say a similar pain level to laser hair removal because it’s individual hairs being removed by the tweezers.Paigeb

I love the Braun Silk-epil Beauty Set. It's got just what I need in one convenient package. First the beauty brush. It comes with 4 different heads, one for exfoliating, one to cleanse, one for sensitive skin and one to blend. I've used all 4 heads and they really work. I've used beauty brushes in the past, but this one is much higher quality because the bristles are much softer, don't irritate the skin and are longer lasting. I especially like the 2 modes that can be used, vibrate or rotate to ensure all parts of the face are taken care of. Since it's waterproof I don't have to worry about taking it into the shower. It takes batteries so no forgetting about recharging. The one thing I wish it included is a silicone brush head. I find that they last longer than the normal bristles so it would have been nice to include. I also really like the epilator/shaver. The epilator comes with 2 attachments, one that massages while it epilates and one that is faster, but can hurt the first few times. I've been using the epilator on my legs and after a couple of times, it doesn't hurt as much. I've also noticed less hair growth and longer time intervals between hair removals. As with all epilators, it does hurt a bit while removing hair, but using a lotion right after helps with the sting. The shaver/trimmer is a neat feature in this beauty set. The trimmer is great for areas on the face or bikini line since it's not as abrasive. The shaver also gets a pretty close shave so it's ideal for that bikini line. This is rechargeable so it's convenient and you can use the epilator in the shower. However, the trimmer/shaver cannot be used in the shower, which would have been nice if it was both. That being said, it does not detract from the versatility or convenience of the product. So this handy little took intimidates me, just a bit. I've never used an electric razor much less and epilator. I'm glad I tried it out! I did not know what to expect, but I feel that – overall – it did a decent job. I don't think this is a completely pain-free experience, however. You'll feel it but how MUCH you feel it is probably personal. For me, it is tolerable and I will admit the whole time I had the urge to just..grab a razor. The second time I used it, it did not hurt quite as much. So I do think it takes some getting used to. Not to mention the big payoff is that the hair removal is longer lasting than shaving! I was so excited when I got my RemingtonProducts – Smooth & Silky Essential Epilator. I really wanted to love the simple safer way to remove leg hair without having to shave. I have thick coarse hair, my leg hair is a stubble by the next day after shaving. As soon as I turned the Smooth & Silky Essential Epilator I could see & feel it was powerful, a little loud which made me jump a little. I pull my skin tight, put the Epilator to my leg & it wasn’t for me. Not my coarse leg hairs. My daughter is 15 with fine softer leg hair & she also tried it. I watched her do it basically pain free. Okay so I have several opinions on this epilator. I will specify areas and results. On my legs, this works quite well when used correctly. You absolutely MUST tighten skin or pull taught. One because it helps expose the hair better and two because if you don’t it will squeeze skin and it hurts if not used correctly. When used on my legs it does a great job and virtually painless but on some parts I have to go over several times until it grabs the hair and if they’re super short especially have to go over again. My underarms, it is painful. I’ll stick to shaving my underarms. On bikini area it’s ok. Also quite painful so in my opinion this is great for legs but I will only use on my legs. Nowhere else. I love that I don’t have to shave my legs all the time because it takes the hair from root and keeps from growing for awhile! That alone makes it worth having! It also comes with a brush to clean the epilator which is great!Bobbip33

My concerns: sensitive skin,, serum delivery and facial massage. Overall note: Vibration is not very fast so not “ultrasonic” if you’re looking for that kind of massage device, but it is wonderful! I prefer that its a bit bouncy and its very easy to clean all the of heads. Epilator: I had a Braun epilator FOR YEARS so I suspect the quality of this epilator is very good and hopefully this will be the same. Never rusted and cleaned very easily. Serum massage head: bouncy and has a strange ‘stiff/not so stiff’ setting at the top, which I dont really understand. However its very easy to clean and does a great job of delivering with its smaller head into the sides of my nose. Best with oil and moves with ease because the plate slightly bends across the curves of your face. Brush: not as fast as one would normally see in say the Clarisonic, but I dont use it for my face, just body brush and is gentle enough for that. Criticisms for improvement: The stand alone would have given it 4 stars because it is a ridiculous piece of plastic to keep the machine upright, but nothing else? I have to lay out a towel after washing the heads because the lid only fits over the epilator. Then I keep them all in the suede bag provided because its semi-rigid. Will probably use my own bag because drying takes a while. Would recommend for someone who does a medium amount (2-3x times a week, less than everyday) routine because I’m not sure how much the replacement of the brush will cost…but is a really good entry level skin care item that introduces you to many marketable skin care fads, and I’m sure I’ll find out through this, what is important to me.Neonyellowhighligher

Braun FaceSpa Pro 911 It is a very sleek and modern looking beauty tool and I love the Rose Gold detailing which make it look expensive and high quality. It is also very light and sits nicely in your hand. To review this product fully I feel you really need to break it down into the 3 different areas the product focuses on. The Epilator head – I was excited to try this as I had never used an epilator on my face before. After charging the device it was a bit daunting as a 1st timer to watch (and hear) the little epilator head spinning around and contemplate using this on your face however following the instructions in the handbook and stretching the skin it delivered really effective results. It was a little bit nippy to begin with but any redness died down within minutes and left me with a smooth upper lip. I also trialled the product on my stray eyebrow hairs and found it really quick and easy to use with brilliant results. The Cleansing Brush – Personally I was a little disappointed with this part of the spa. I had hoped it would deliver a deep clean and clear out any clogged pores or blackheads that I had but unfortunately the brush doesn’t work into my pores in this way. I also found the built in timer a bit annoying as it was never quite long enough to work on one area of my face and the brush stops rotating for a couple of seconds when the timer reaches the end before starting up again, good idea in theory but I would have liked to have been able to turn this function off. I also feel like I have used a LOT more of my cleansing product than I would have applying by hand as without product on the brush the bristles can feel a bit rough after a while if your skin is very dry (like mine). Overall it did work well to remove leftover makeup but didn’t deliver quite the results I was hoping for The MicroVibration Head – Again I think I had possibly put my expectation of what this would deliver on a pedestal before actually trying the product but I was very disappointed. On a positive, the head felt nice and cool on first touch against your skin and then almost delivers a slight warming feel when using it. The microvibration is a nice sensation on cheeks but (onto the negatives) felt a bit like a drill against boney areas such as my forehead, cheekbones and chin! The timer function also comes into play with this head and is again rather annoying as I would prefer a smooth constant movement from one area to another rather than a disjointed gap, it is also quite noisy when vibrating which takes away from the relaxing spa feel it should create. I was using more product again than usual too and after using the head still ending up using my fingertips to finish applying my cream as I felt a lot of my moisturiser was still sitting on my face and wasn’t rubbed in fully. To summarise, I think the product is a great idea in theory but has a lot of downsides. It looks great but in my opinion it is overpriced for what it actually delivers and I feel the only part I will use regularly is the epilator head. All in all, a very expensive epilator.Nicole2107

I was really excited to try this out, I have at times very fuzzy peach hair, some days it’s not noticeable and other days it’ll catch the light and I’ll stare in horror and wonder if people see that all the time! I decided to try out the brush head first using a face wash with it, it was so so relaxing and my skin felt so much cleaner than any previous methods I’ve tried. I always find my forehead needs more attention than the rest of my face but I usually end up scrubbing it raw trying to exfoliate it. But the brush is the PERFECT amount of rough vs soft, my skin didn’t sting at all after using it and it’s the softest it’s ever felt. Without a doubt my favourite attachment for the FacePro that I’ll use every day! The epilator head for the FacePro works just as you’d expect, it’s feels scary and unnatural putting it on your skin at first but I quickly got used to the sensation! And my face is finally hair free in the right places! I also used this to shape and define my eyebrow, works wonders. I decided to use the microvibrating head last to apply some moisterier after exfoliating, at first it didn’t seem to do much, and I only really felt it ‘massaging’ on my cheek bones? But once I had finished applying the moisterier I could feel it had definitely helped to even my skin tone and brought some colour to my face whilst evenly distributing my moisterier. The only downside is although the FacePro doesn’t have a lot of buttons it wasn’t very clear how to use it from the instructions. The difference between the normal and ‘turbo’ mode was very subtle too so figuring out what setting it was on was confusing at times! Though I did discover it has a handy ‘lock’ setting so you can put it in your bag for travel safely without worrying about it accidentally turning on. Thoughtful plus! It comes with a little pouch for the attachments and a cute circle stand. I love the rose gold/copper colour and this would make a lovely gift to a mother, sister, friend etc. It’s so convienent having multiple features on one device and definitely feels like a luxurious ‘spa evening’ whenever I do my skin care routine now. I absolutely love this product and plan on never shaving my legs with a regular razor again!!! This does hurt a little bit to use but the discomfort gets better as you continue to use it. I used this on my lower legs and it went pretty fast. You can see that it pulls the hair out from the root. This epilator charges quickly and the battery stays charged for awhile. It works on short hair which is great but if it’s too short it doesn’t get it all and you need to go over the area again after it grows a little bit. This is my first epilator so I didn’t really know what to expect. It hurts, definitely yes! But if you power through it for a few seconds it stops hurting so much. The smooth skin after is quite nice. I was very excited! But that excitement quickly faded when my hair started to come back all ingrown! 80% of my hair follicles are red, itchy black dots. The first time using this on my legs took me about 2 hours because of the pain, yes on the lowest setting it lasted that long! I'm a T-Girl so my hair was thicker than the hair this is expected to be used on and it hurt a lot! Buuut after the first time, it's now very painless and i've used it to clean up a few times since without any discomfort. The battery life is amazing, it's top quality, and the attachments work wonders. The foil shaver can even be used for facial hair. It definitely does its job, and very well. Advice for first use Exfoliate! Soak them legs!Take it slow! There's no rush.Use the massage attachment for epilating, and press down but not hard. I have been looking for something more permanent as I was tired of waxing and getting only a few facial hairs, and leaving red blotches. I started to look into epilators, which were new to me. I read and checked out video results and user do's and don'ts. Now for my results. It did sound scary when the epilator is turned on and as for pain, I have waxed for so many years and thought. If it's just tweezers pulling out hairs faster and more then I could ever do. Then I'm good! The very first day I got it, I turned it on and was a bit taken aback by the razor sound. I first tried a small area by my chin and didn't feel a thing! So I decided this isn't so bad! I used it all over my face and even the fine hairs that would grow long, under my eye, but with great care. I can't believe how smooth my whole face felt for the first time in years!! Took a day or so for my skin to get used to as well as the technique. Resembles a shaver, but very different in technique. I got the hang of it, now I'm a pro! No more irrigation, this is a Godsend! I bought this maybe a year ago ( I know barely writing a review B)) I love it! I was looking for something cheap cuz you know ballin on a budget, and I came across this one. The reviews were mixed at the time so I was a bit skeptical. The first time. I tried it it was meh pretty hard to get wasn't getting all the hair ( I use in my upper lip and armpit. ) the next time I used it I was determined to make it work so I tried different angles and found that when I flip it so the pink side and on button are face up toward the ceiling vertically it does an amazing job! Also go in circles helps. Hurts a lot but I mean it's tweezing out more than one hair at time. I will say it doesn't quite get the Baby Baby hairs. For the fine hairs I just pluck it out myself with regular tweezers.Sand

I started with my armpits, about 2mm long hair at the time, not super-thick, but also not the delicate tiny hairs that grow on most of my legs. (We'll get to them) despite the uneven surface epilady performed admirably. It was a bit painful, so we took it in stages but in the end, hair gone, beautiful.Next I did my ankles which weirdly have darker, coarser hair that the rest of my legs but not alot of it. Slightly longer, maybe 5mm. Epilady worked well but those hairs tend to lie flay on my leg so I did have to encourage a few of them to stand up, which was annoying.Third was other places, coarser hair, same 2mm length. Ouch. Worked well, enough said.Finslly, the rest of the legs, this is where I ran into trouble. These hairs are very fine and light. The epilady gripped them without difficulty, but instead of pulling them out they just broke off where she had grabbed them. So, I wound up with teeny little hairs still.Honestly, that's fine in my case, they're basically invisible, but if you have really fine, but also dark hair? For the price, it’s a great tool. Way better than shaving, because the results last for at least a week (at least for someone like me who is very hairy). However, it does require you to take sit down, take your time, and work through it, so sometimes I get impatient and lazy and don’t use it consistently. Better than shaving!!! This is a multi tweezer function type of shaver. Shavings causes faster regrowth, razor burns and irritation. This epilator tweezed the hair faster than by hand and doesn’t cause irritations. Quick and easy. I use this for my armpits so yeah I let it grow out just so I can use this. This was the first epilator I ever bought. I was terrified of trying it. I got it online and decided to give it a go. It was surprisingly easy to use and maneuver especially considering that this was the first one I ever used. It does hurt the first couple of times I used it but afterwards I barely felt anything. After almost 45 years of shaving my legs, I finally decided to purchase the Braun epilady shaver. My Sister has been using this product for 25 plus years and swears by it. My first experience with it was a bit ouchy But after the first initial shaving, each time gets better and better. I did not have to shave again for over a week after the first time. The second time (less painful) and minimal hair growth was visible. Im not very hairy so I now only have to use the Braun shaver about every two weeks. Eventually, I will only have to use it maybe once a month. My Sister says she can now go almost two months with very little hair growth because she has been using it much longer than I have. I was skeptical that this product would work since I tried another product that was shaped like a tube of lipstick, but was no more than a cutsie electric shaver. This product turns out to be awesome. I didn't experience the pain it said I might and my skin didn't get irritated or swollen. My skin feels soft and hair free! It states it may take a few times for the hair to completely be removed, but I like the way my skin feels as opposed to waxing. The only criticism I have is I had to call Braun because their pictures in the brochure are confusing. Their customer service representative clarified my questions.Colie

I'm still on the fence about this product. It does what it's supposed to do, but there's a catch. Some hairs seem to break off instead of pulling out at the root. I read some reviews that said it's not a real epilator, and I think that might be why some people feel that way. If hairs break, you're going to feel some stubble. I discovered that the slower I go, the less that happens. I can't seem to use this as quickly as I can shave. If I use the tool that quickly, I get lots of breakage. On the upside, the results last a long time when the hairs do pull out at the root. It's the same as with waxing — if it's pulled out, it's going to grow back pretty slowly. As for discomfort, it's kind of painful, but nothing like waxing for me. There's zero skin pulling. All I feel are what seem like lots of tiny little stings where the epilator grips the hairs and pulls them out. Waxing is faster, but for me, it hurts a lot more than this. I think it takes some patience and some trial and error. If you're like me, you're not going to get perfect results the first time. Find your pace, work slowly, and use the tool in more than one direction. Hairs grow in different directions, so moving the tool in different directions seems to work a lot better. I also need to clean out the tool frequently. If I don't, it's not as effective. As for ingrown hairs, I have experienced a few. But again, nothing like with waxing. For me, if there is an ingrown hair, it's barely beneath the surface of the skin. If I scratch it lightly with my nail or use a dry brush before I shower, it's resolved. For me, it was worth the price. I'm happy with it. I think that the longer I use it, the more I'll learn the best methods. This is one of the biggest failures I purchased. After checking so many reviews, I decided to buy this epilator, not from Amazon, but from a different website. BUT I had to come here and share my thoughts. I’ve been epilating my body for 15 years, so I guess I’m “educated” enough to share my experience.

1. The 3 speeds are USELESS. It doesn’t pull out from the root, it SHAVES!! That defeats the purpose of an epilator.
2. The large head does nothing. I go over the same area again and again and my hair is still there!
3. Doesn’t catch the small hair – just the longer one (again, useless!)
4. The adjustable head hurts your skin – it “catches” your skin from time to time while using it. It HURTS and leaves MARKS on your skin.
5. The battery life is too short. If you’re really “hairy”, one charge won’t do it.
6. I’ve never had ingrown hair from my previous epilators, well I have them now from this one.

Do NOT BUY THIS useless device. I guarantee it’s a man that designed this device, cause no woman would approve such junk.Christine S

I got this epilator based on a Reddit thread recommendation and Im so glad I did. You can use it wet or dry, it's cordless and it's rechargable. I use it on my legs and armpits. It hurts, especially at first. You do get more used to it and it hurts less over time. The legs don't hurt as much as the pits. It can be a bit tricky to get all of the hair and it takes some time to do it. Make sure you are pulling your skin taught and are moving against the direction of hair growth for best results. My hair has grown in slower and more sparsely over time. I also have less irritation and fewer ingrown hairs compared to shaving. Highly recommend!desiree.c

This is a great epilator. I preferred to use it in the bath with legs lathered up with soap. I ended up selling it though because it was just too painful. Hurts like hell, and I’d ruin all the hard work if there was a bit of growth and I needed a quick fix so would just whizz over with razor! This works great on stubble though too, and less painful on very short stubble. It did give me some ingrown hairs and irritation though, almost like the hair follicle was just going through too much trauma. I would consider buying this again but it’s something you HAVE to keep up with. If I was to buy again I would have a wax first, then use it daily to whizz over regrowth. I was somewhat disappointed at the results. I Mediterranean so I have more hair on arms and full legs and I find that the redness takes over a day and half to go down. Even though I am consistent I still can feel hair on my arms and legs. It also does not take all hair off. Using it under water seems to make the pain worse and even though I followed all tips I still had redness, ingrowns, and no smoothness.irene.c

I had an older version of this when I was in high school. I was using it for my arms and legs. It was really good and convenient but my hairs used to get trapped under my skin because of this. After I started getting laser treatment all the ingrown hairs disappeared. So if you have the ability to get a laser treatment that’s a better option.neda.l

Razors used to give me rashes and ingrown hair were a recurring in my life, so I used to go to a salon for sugar waxing, but ever since I found this epilator I have never looked back! Think of it as a large number of tweezers pulling your hair out rapidly, but not as rapidly as waxing. Sounds fun huh?Well, if you've given birth or passed a kidney stone, you can survive an epilator. My suggestion is to shave first and then 2 days later get rid of the first regrowth and continue to do so every 2 days for about 10 days. Then enjoy smooth legs or underarms for about a week before needing to go back in! I figured no one would be looking too close to my body for a while and I could test it out.Now the price tag is a bit high, but remember you are only buying it once every 5-10 years depending on how well you take care of it. The Braun I think is great it has a Epilator for bikini 👙trimming in sensitive areas. It has massaging rollers for a mote gentle epilation. The Epilator gently removed hair from the root for long lasting effect it also has a small brush to clean off excess hair 😀cheryl.l

It is my first time epilating and I was really looking forward to not have to deal with shaving so regularly. Unfortunately I have been disappointed. Good points: it mostly removes hairs. Bad points: it takes a long time as you need to go over the same bits a few times for the hairs to be fully pulled out, super loud, for me it only lasts about a week before the hairs are noticeably long again rather than the 4 weeks advertised, difficult to epilate at certain angles.AlexUK

You will still feel the pinch but it glides over large areas and quickly gets rid of unwanted hair. If you have very short hairs left over after you are done, then the Braun for facial hair only will tackle those. It is smaller and has a more focused head to grab the tiniest hairs. Think of it as a large number of tweezers pulling your hair out rapidly, but not as rapidly as waxing. Sounds fun huh?Well, if you've given birth or passed a kidney stone, you can survive an epilator. My suggestion is to shave first and then 2 days later get rid of the first regrowth and continue to do so every 2 days for about 10 days. Then enjoy smooth legs or underarms for about a week before needing to go back in! Just make sure you don't get a huge amount of regrowth or you're basically back at square one.So I ordered a Braun Epilator Silk-épil 7-7561 Facial Hair Removal for Women, Bikini Trimmer, Women's Shaver Wet Dry, Cordless from amazon right as the pandemic started. Hair regrowth is noticeably finer and slower than it is after shaving. It's quite easy to use and clean. It's a lot less work than waxing, but the results are just as good.Hair removal is quite unpleasant! It causes a rash, which goes away within a few hours. I wanted to try this epilator because I hate shaving. I was hopeful that after using it, I wouldn’t have to shave as often. Time will tell, but here’s what I learned so far. First, it is extremely painful if you use it on dry skin, or on longer hair. Using it in the shower is the best option. I tried in on my underarm hair, but my skin was still too sensitive. So for me, I will only be using it on my legs. When using it, I had to make several passes over the same area and still didn’t get a close, smooth shave in some spots. (I had a video ready to post showing this, but realized I can only post photos.) I then tried the razor attachment and loved it. It was fast, smooth, easy, painless, even for my underarms. (See photo) I also used the stone attachment for my rough skin on my heels. This worked fast and easy as well. I think it is a well made, good product, I’m just not sure epilating is for me. If you’ve used epilators in the past and like them, this one may be a good choice.Lady Luck

Legs. The first time I used it on my wet legs, it worked wonders! Made my skin smooth for over a week compared to a few days from regular shaving. The second time I used it on my wet legs about a month later, it couldn't catch the finer baby hair, so it left spots here and there. I had to go over those spots several times once my legs were dry to somewhat work. Under Arms. Ouch! Very sensitive the first time I used it and took over an hour to complete both underarms for my first time epilating. My husband thought it was pulling on my skin, when I think it was just literally tweezing out all the thick roots. Ouch. Ouch. Ouch… BUT WORTH IT! The epilator has lowered the frequency of shaving under arms from every 2-3 days to about once a week. The second time I used it, it was not as painful, but it was still hard trying to get all the hair by myself as some were growing in different directions. Would be easier if you have a second person do it for you. All in all, I don't think I will ever go back to regular shaving for my non-sensitive areas. Although I feel like epilating takes longer than regular shaving due to spotty areas that don't catch on the first/second try, but the less frequency required to have smooth legs and hairless under arms is more convenient for me.Texan08

This is a easy to set up and use. There are two speed settings and the product is rechargeable via a shaver socket. I am so pleased that the epilator is easy to handle both in dry and wet environments. I preferred using it in the shower as I felt I got better results. The more you use the epilator the better the results especially for first time users. Over time I needed to use it less and less. I am now a week in and do not have remove hair everyday like I used too. As a newbie I have not got to the point where I have 4 weeks of smoothness but after a couple of sessions I found my legs were notably smoother and the results lasted longer than if I was to use a normal razor. I'd been thinking of buying a new epilator for some time, so when my 20 year old Braun epilator finally died I was really lucky to score this one at an awesome price on sale. It instantly became one of the best decisions I made all year, and I wish I had got it sooner. It is much more effective and less painful than any other epilator I've used, very easy to use and the movability of the head is fantastic. I especially used to struggle with my knees, which are no drama at all with this model. I've tried it most all over my body except my underarms and it continues to be remarkably easier and less painful than my previous one. Braun Silk epil 5 is an epilator that I wish I had when I have started to use epilators for a first time. I have used a few epilators so far, unfortunately my hair grows quickly and are quite strong which cause a range of challenges, add to this combo sensitive skin and straightforward act of epilation is not straightforward anymore. I like and appreciate following features of Braun Silk epil 5: – shape of the epilator aligns smoothly to a shape of my body and it feels comfortable in my hand, anti-slip grip is very handy both in the bath and during dry epilation especially when I want to make sure my hand firmly stays in one place when I am using it – can be used during bath and on a dry skin which very much depends on your preference and what feels most comfortable for you – at the end of the day it pulls out hair from the root which even with the most gentle appliance can be felt so option of being able to use it in during bath when I feel relaxed and warm water makes the hair removal less painful is helpful. – there are two levels of speed and I tried both on different length of my body hair – on both speed levels Braun Silk epil 5 is very effective, I personally prefer the faster speed however it terms of outcomes the speed doesn’t make difference. – the machine is precise, it removes very short hair, the box says that it removes hair as short as 0.5mm from the root which I found hard to believe till I tested it on myself. It is very precise, and it doesn’t break hair in half but fully pulls out hair from roots. – although it is fantastic appliance you can’t avoid discomfort or sometimes painful experience during using it, simply because it pulls the hair out and even with the best appliance you can’t avoid discomfort. However, with time my skin has increased tolerance level to the discomfort which helped a lot, removing hair from most sensitive parts of body like bikini line or under arms made my sensitive skin red for a short time but not irritated. Overall, I think it is a great epilator and very effective one which is what one expects from this type of appliance.MichaelaJ

This product is amazing. This is what i have been searching for, for a long time. Bought it whilst on special as i couldnt pass up the price. Was not disappointed. Its built solid, easy to use & manouvre… and IT ACTUALLY WORKS. The epillator removes the even those fine hairs and you can physically see them on the epillator head. You feel a light sting as it does its job providing feedback that the hairs are being removed. Coupled with a gentle exfoliating brush which my wife and i use with a suiken facial scrub only adds the to value and versitility of the priduct. I havnt used the massage head but besides that the main aim of removing annoying little hairs from the ears, between the brows, cheeks etc has already given me exactly what i was looking for. I had never epilated before buying this product, but I really wanted to do something about my upper lip hair and Covid means no face-threading for the time being. I'd still say my pain threshold is pretty low. Using this isn't 'not painful' but absolutely nothing compared to a wax or tattoo (both of which I've had). The trick is to not press too hard onto the skin, and to go with the hair growth, not against (the opposite advice of the booklet). Going against the hair growth can lead to the hair being cut rather than pulled from the root, creating the stubble effect we all fear. I'm yet to use the facial brush but glad to have one in my skincare arsenal (the brush easily detaches from the head so you can replace it in future). Now for a bit of myth busting: epilating DOES NOT make your hair grow back thicker. It's a myth. In fact, no hair ever grows back 'thicker'. When we shave, it cuts the hair at the shaft, so leaves it appearing thick. When we remove the hair from the root, a new hair grows back which will be tapered at the top, so in fact waxing/epilating leads to hair appearing finer. Also, hair follicles only have a certain number of regenerations – think about all those 90s brows mistakes. Those bad boys ain't coming back. Hair removed from the root also grows back at different rates therefore if we wax/epilate/tweeze hair grows back sparser & 'finer'. Anyone complaining of stubble & thicker hair aren't using these products properly (no shame, we all make mistakes, and these tools can be tricky to master). FINALLY, epilation pre- & after-care: If your pain threshold is low, pop a painkiller 30 mins before epilating No caffeine beforehand & try to avoid epilating on your period (both can heighten pain) Shower/bathe so the steam opens your pores & exfoliate beforehand Go with, not against the hair growth Moistures afterwards Redness is normal, so maybe don't do it 5 mins before leaving the house Exfoliate a few days after to ensure new hairs can grow back with ease & avoid ingrowns Rambled on for far too long. But just wanted to pass on what I had learnt when researching this product & similar ones. All in all, I'm a convert! 😀SB90
