Best Hair Protection From Heat (2025 Update)

I actually really like this heat protectant from Foxybae. I didn’t think that highly of most of their products as some people have, but this heat protectant was well done! The spray bottle is feminine cute. The functionality of the bottle is absolutely brilliant! Easy to hold/spray, mists’ perfectly, smells nice. I also feel like it actually adds volume to the hair if you don’t already have product in it. Protects hair extremely well. I love the 🔒 on the spray nozzle for spill-proof traveling.rachael.b

Even if this product didn't work, the smell alone is enough to love it! Like, if it came in a body spray, I would totally buy it! But this sweet smelling spray not only protects from heat damage and breakage, but it also contains biotin to help hair grow stronger and quicker! Three strikes and I'm SOLD! I also really love the bottle it comes in, the nozzle never gets clogged and mists softly yet evenly. Very affordable, around 14-15$ (I even got it for 8$ once at TJ Maxx once!) and can be purchased from amazon, walmart, macy's or on the foxybae website!nicole.p

It's medicore. The packaging is cute, sprays well and smells like yummy vanilla, but it leaves a tacky residue on my hair. It's not super sticky or hard, it still leaves the hair flexible but I don't love the slight tackiness. I ended up returning it because I honestly prefer the tresemme one. It makes the hair silky and doesn't leave a weird residue. It's also half the price so I'm sticking with my tried and truekelly.e

My hair has never felt healthier in all my years of using protectants. Joico is a fantastic brand, and IronClad was phenomenal. Their new Hero with added shine is still difficult for me to adjust. I have long thick wavy hair that gets dry easy. I wash with all soft redken brand shampoo/conditioner. While wet, I add "United" Redken all over and I normally let it air dry (blow drying works fine too) I use hot tools at its highest setting (450) to straighten my hair. I would take sections, spray iron clad directly on my hair and style, and immediately after, my hair felt soft, light and never did more with it. Just perfect. Hero adds a gloss that makes your hair feel heavier in the beginning. I've adjusted by using less, spraying further away, but the results are the same. It's like my hair has to dry all over again. I still recommend this product since they no longer make my beloved IronClad. But just be warned, if you don't have dry hair, this will make your hair appear oily. Just remember, it locks in moisture (as it should) so for those of us with very dry hair, it still is a great purchase to makeEmpress86

I was so stoked to try this because it's hard to find an aerosol heat protectant that you put on dry hair. I tried this one, typically joico is a good brand. I used it as suggested, and it leaves my hair dry, sticky, and dull. I really hate it. I don't feel like it protects my hair. It makes it worse.T

this item is ok, but a lesser dollar one works just as great. it leaves a little film while heat is applied and does not sleek or smooth. i need to apply a generous amount also, to have a little shine, then feels caked on at first, following hours later to be managable. but it works barely, and needs to be used with other stuff and not aloneCupcake

I mean…I'm in love for sure! First of all, it has defenetely made a difference: I have forgotten to apply it on my first section of hair while flatironing it, so my hands would burn every time I touch the hair after flatiron. Meanwhile, when I have applied Forcefield, my hair was slightly warm after ironing. Secondly, it made it soooo hydrated! (I had my hair a lil dry after recent bleaching). 20 years later, finally a heat protectant that actually works! Normally if I style my hair with heat I have a long lasting after burnt smell, not pleasant at all. When I use XMONDO Forcefield my hair smells good after styling and even after I wash my hair, I still don't smell that wet burnt after smell. Also, this holds my curls and I can wake up beautiful and ready to go without having to fix my hair at all (for a whole week long, I've tried it) and my hair never holds curls. It smells amazing, every guy that has smelled my hair has all made a point to say wow your hair smells so fresh. So it's only been a few weeks so it's difficult to tell if this has helped my hair improve. However, smells great and it's super easy to use. I took off one star because when I placed my initial order and received my products, the lid to the forcefield wasn't properly closed and some of the product leaked within the plastic wrapping. I cleaned it up and tightened it, but customer service more or less just implied tough luck. I should have taken pictures before I cleaned it to prove the damage, but anyway! This is an excellent serum. This spray serum detangles, adds moisture, repairs hair damage, and protects hair from heat. I have very fine and thin hair, and products like this always weigh my hair down. This spray does not! It infuses nourishing and hydrating ingredients into my hair and this makes my hair look and feel much healthier. It is also more manageable and less frizzy. I'm really confused by the positive reviews! This is the worst product in its kind I've ever tried – used after the Momo shampoo and conditioner and it made my hair crunchy and sort of tacky – it was more like a sea salt spray and nowhere near a nice smoothing heat protector. Waste of money!Gill

I write this review in hopes others buy this product so it becomes so popular they cannot ever discontinue it. I need it for the rest of my life. My hair texture was different after having kids, no amount of conditioner or product ever made it feel good. It was constantly getting tangled and always felt dry. Now my hair is healthy looking and so soft – I can't stop touching it! Use it after the shower on damp hair then after you dry it. I use a dime size amount and I have very thick hair. I have thicker brunette hair that is about six inches past my shoulders and pretty smooth and easy to deal with. I was recently wanting to try something new for heat protectant. I had high hopes for this, but it made my hair feel SO dry and hair to manage. I usually wear my hair in a clip, and I let the ends flop over the clip. After using this the ends of my hair would stick straight up out of the clip lookin like a peacock, that's how dry and straw-like my hair was after using this stuff. And the smell is so weird. It just left me feeling confused, like it was gross but not unpleasant all at the same time. I'm just going to stick to my Kenra blow-dry spray.Jam

I have severely damaged bleach blonde hair. I've used a barrage of conditioners to tame the frizz. However after a day the frizz comes back in certain areas. I try not to wash my hair often because I know that's better on bleached hair. It's the summer and that's harder to do. So a store associate recommended this product after looking at my hair. This was the first I've heard about this product. I've applied it to my hair dry and wet after cleansing. Instantly the frizz is gone. Very smoothing. A little goes far with this product. I love this hairspray for everyday use. My biggest peeve with hairsprays is the overwhelming alcohol smell, The Great Barrier Heat Protectant Hairspray has the most yummy berry smell I've ever smelled in a hairspray, I love it! The other problem I have with other hairsprays is the fact that it leaves a sticky or heavy film in my hair, which ends up weighting it down drastically because I have very thin wispy hair for a brunette – This hairspray is so light and keeps my hair looking very natural. What makes this product even better than having a great fragrance and great light weight hold, is that this product is FREE of Negative Energy . . which is a major plus in my book. I'm not a big fan of hair spray because it makes my hair stiff, sticky and hard to wash, but Great Barrier isn't like that. It smells amazing, a soft scent, it's not overpowering. It's free of negative energy, which means, unlike other hair sprays, it doesn't contain harsh chemicals, it's vegan and no animal cruelty. I'm not the biggest fan of hairsprays because I hate the smell every time it's sprayed and how hard and dry it leaves my hair feeling. I felt like the life was being sucked right out of my hair every time I used heat on it, and then added hairspray to it. I received this spray and tried it out, immediately being surprised by how good it smells. It's hard to explain but most hairsprays give off a very strong aroma that leaves my nostrils burning, but not this one! I went through a whole day at Disneyland with just a few sprays of this and my hair never lost its waves. My hair stayed better than my makeup did by the end of the day! I was looking for a heat protectant and a product that would help with slip as I round brush my hair. This is not it! It caused snags and snarls. I literally had to rip the brush through my hair. For a product designed to "heal" hair, I am sure I did some serious damage in one use. The description reads "provides gentle slip;" it absolutely does not have any slip and does the exact opposite! I love this stuff. I spray my whole head and then brush it before I use my curling iron. It seems to help hold the curls and I don't use any other hairspray after. It's not crunchy or sticky at all. I love that it has thermal protection since I usually curl my hair. You can't even tell there's hairspray in my hair after I'm done curling. Starting with the PRO, this spray is awesome after you have styled your hair, particularly with some curls that you want to hold yet you don't want to use stiff hairspray. You could run your fingers through the curls or tousle a little bit as you spray all around your hair. It is an awesome finishing spray! However, the big Con is that it absolutely, positively is an NOT a good thermal styling spray. Some of the positive previous reviews said this product made it shiny and held either a straightener or curling iron pass over. So I sprayed it on my blowdried hair and went ahead and curled my hair with a curling iron. I didn't notice at the time, but at some point later in the day I thought I smelled burning hair. I happen to shower again later that evening and after the shower as my hair fell in my face, without a doubt it was burnt hair smell! I noticed the next morning that a large section of hair just to the right of my temple was gone, maybe an inch'ish away from the scalp! My stomach sank, my face became clammy! That feeling of horror set in. With that said, I honestly have no problem continuing to use the product as a finishing spray, because it is THAT good specifically for that purpose. I was looking for a heat protectant I could use on my fine color-treated hair that would not alter my color or cause product build-up, be sticky or tacky, and would be versatile! I wanted something I could use on damp or dry hair to protect it from heat and this product is great! I use this on damp freshly shampooed and conditioned hair after I put in an anti-snap product and lightweight oil (pre-blow-dry). Before drying I spray a light even mist over my hair and comb through and section off to blow dry. The results are amazing. My style lasts beautifully, feels like silk, and second-day hair requires a slight flat iron touch up (if that for my long bangs). I have no tangling while drying or after, I have no sticky tacky feeling (which is why I hate "hair sprays") except for very few products (one from Kenra (medium hold) and one from a brand not carried by Ulta) when needed. I cannot say enough good things about this product and appreciate the advice I received from one of the Senior Stylists at the Kildeer, IL location who recommended this product. First of all, Pureology can do no wrong in my eyes. Every single product they make is absolute gold. I loved having the opportunity to try this heat protectant smoothing lotion in exchange for my honest review. The 6.6 oz retails for $29 on the pureology website. That price seems pretty fair. I have long hair and I usually use about 2 or three pumps. It smells great and smooths any frizz. Also, a lot of people skip the heat protectant step before they blow dry, flat iron or curl, and the professionals will tell you that’s a big mistake. Especially for color treated hair. This lotion is great. It feels very lightweight, I have oily scalp and hair that is tend to be greasy fast and yet very frizzy due to highlights and straightening. I was glad to find out that this lotion is not greasy or sticky and doesn’t weigh my hair down and It does help protect my hair from heat treatment and it’s noticeable. After two week of use I noticed that it helped my hair look smoother and less frizzy. I actually liked the result so much that I even take the time to use my hair straightener more frequently. The only single drawback is the scent, I wish it was less peachy and last shorter. Not to my liking anyway. I really enjoyed the shampoo from this line, but I feel the conditioner & smoothing cream are too heavy for my hair type. I shampoo and style my hair once a week and with the use of this product I had to shampoo after 2 days due to itchy scalp and just overall weighing my hair down. I use another high end line smoothing creams and I can go 6-7 days without shampooing. I’m all about that dry shampoo life. This product smells great and my hair looked amazing right after I blowed it out and it definitely did smooth my hair out, I just didn’t like the weighing of my hair down after 2 days. I bought this a couple days ago. My hair struggles to hold curl cause it's thin regardless of having a lot of it. I sprayed this on layer by layer ran my fingers through and let dry. Then styled and they held beautifully. Especially in the nape area which has been the most difficult place on my head to hold a curl! So thankful I was recommended this product!Holly

I’ve been using this product for years. If I was reviewing this product a few years ago I’d give it 5 stars. As of late I’ve moved away from heat styling and accepting my natural texture. This product was my best friend for quite a-few years. After blowing out my hair I’d section out my hair and give them a healthy spraying with this spray. I never had any issues with greasiness or stickiness. My hair always looked smooth and stayed nice and soft. This definitely combats frizz and does a nice job protecting against thermal heat. The biggest issue I had with this product is the fragrance. It’s pretty heavy and sweet. It Always made me sneeze! Without fail. Obviously I put up with it, but it definitely irritated my nose. This is a fantastic product, its honestly the first heat protectant product thats actually worked when I straighten my fine hair!! I straighten almost daily and have been straightening for 25 years so you can imagine how many products Ive tried!! Always searching for the perfect product!!! I don't have thick hair but it appears like I do because I have SO much hair. It's color damaged and very dry and frizzy so I either need to add curling cream to get my waves or fully blow dry it straight. I used to use the Bb repair blow dry cream and that made my hair silky after a blow dry. This product left me with a residue on my hair I can feel. I was on TIK TOK late one night, as usual, and came across a hair dresser that recommended the Verb Ghost line shampoo, well one thing led to another and I found that Ulta has a starter kit that included the shampoo, conditioner, prep, and oil. So because it was such a great deal, I ordered a kit and added their deep conditioner because who doesn't like having a deep container to try as well. While I waited 3 days for my order to arrive, I allowed my hair to get as dirty as possible. If I was going to try this line, I wanted to get the full effect on the first use. The order finally arrived and I ran to the bathroom like a giddy school girl that couldn't wait to try this product line. Let's talk packaging! It is simple but high end. To be honest, the name Ghost and it being a black bottle, is what originally won my goth little heart! The smell was about average for salon quality hair care, which is great because I knew it wasn't filled with a bunch of artificial fragrances. I did my usual lather rinse repeat, followed with the deep conditioner that I let sit for 5 mins, towel dried my hair, added a little squirt of the Verb Ghost Prep through out my whole head, combed out, then added 2 pumps of the oil to my ends. Now usually that is where I stop because I HATE blow drying my hair. But today was different and I needed the results ASAP. So I grabbed my blow out brush and started at work. The results? My hair was so healthy and shiny! It smelled so good, felt amazing, and it actually had some volume! This stuff (when used sparingly) didn't make me feel weighed down at all. And because my hair is so long, usually most products make my hair feels so heavy and feels like it left a gross film on my strands. Now I will say, don't use the Prep if you want to air dry your hair. I have done it a couple times now, and it leaves my hair kind of crunchy feeling towards the roots. I Love love love. I just used this last night and super pleased with the results. I have very fine hair and it does not weigh it down or feel greasy like others posted. It has a nice scent too. So many hair products have silicone which over time coats the hair but not allowing moisture in and can leave build up and dry hair from inside out. This hair product has none of the bad stuff and leaves my hair feeling nourished and protected. I read all the good reviews and thought it would be a good buy, however when I used it it made my hair feel super snarly!! No matter how careful I was I was just breaking and pulling hair because it was so snarly! I have never had that before not even with hairspray in my hair! It felt weird like a bad hairspray and a greaser…. it was used on hair washed 4 hours prior and was fully dried…. I applied and was ready to Hot Iron my hair, but it was just snarely no matter how I brushed it, it was terrible in my hair and when I was FINALLY done hot ironing it was still just a mess and it felt gross like a film all over my hair…. It smells like really strong men's cheap cologne. The smell is very masculine. My husband smelled it and even questioned why my hair smelled like a man, and I gave him the bottle to demonstrate. I'm very picky about the scents that I use, and I will be avoiding this just based on the smell. Most people who wear long hair and use a curling iron are women, so you would think a more neutral scent or something feminine would be more suitable. I bought this product because I’ve been needing heat protection for my hair. Chi is an AMAZING brand so this has to be marvelous I thought. Boy was I WRONG!! This was my first time using any kind of heat protector in my life. When I sprayed it on, it felt like hair spray. As soon as I ran my fingers through my damp hair it felt sticky and hard. I started to get bad vibes about this product right away. I ignored the red flag, and continued to blow dry my hair. My hair was a complete mess. Tangled everywhere, breaking apart. Hair was all over the place. And the hair kept getting stuck to my brush and fingers causing me to break it and creating extreme damage. I have red hair at the moment & this product definitely faded the color out. The way it looked afterwards was dry, absolutely shine less, and very brittle. The only thing it did was give me volume. That’s why I gave it two stars. It’s more like 1.5 tbh. I can name a bunch of other products that can give you volume for way less damage. For a first time heat protectant buyer. This was a no no. My hair has never looked so good! I love it. I use it before I curl or straighten my hair and I only use it on the last 4-5 inches of my hair. The first time I tried it, I thought it was going to be really oily but it dries as you go and leaves the hair soft and smooth, and a nice finished look. I do like this, works good when you do not over spray. Can be very greasy on finer hair types so use sparingly. A little goes a long way with this product. First thing for all, I wish they did travel size of this, the bottle is to big to take anywhere with you and I wouldn’t be stuck now with useless products. It definitely doesn’t give me any volume! The best hair spray for instant crunch-free touchable texture , volume and lift . It’s a product that saves my day when I’m in need of instant volume right before a video meeting . The Heat Protecting Spray is very easy to use. It leaves no residue on the hair, doesn't weigh it down or make it sticky or hard. I use it before blowdrying my hair and it leaves it lovely. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars is because I'm addicted to the scent of the shampoo, hair conditioner and hair mask and I was expecting the Heat Protecting Spray to smell in the same lovely way. My hair is really damaged. We'll, half of it is anyways. I started growing my hair out a while ago. I have left the top part of my hair totally natural with no dye, and the bottom half of my hair is totally over-processed, and has been bleached and dyed more times than I could even begin to count. This means I need hair products that can do some serious damage control. With one of my latest Sephora orders I got a bottle of the Gisou Propolis Infused Heat Protecting Spray and Wow! What a difference this product makes in mine and my husband's hair! We sprayed this on my husband's hair after he washed and conditioned it, and when he dried his hair that normally has a million flyaways it literally had none! His hair was so smooth and soft it was amazing! It added volume to his normally flat hair as well. We also sprayed it on my hair when it was dry and it did the same thing! It basically almost totally eliminated all of my billion flyaways, and made my hair very soft and manageable. I didn't flat iron my hair with this product yet, so I can't attest to it's powers of smoothing that way, but I'm sure it's probably pretty incredible. The spray was easy to use and smelled faintly floral. It wasn't heavy or sticky on my hair and didn't weigh it down at all. I had tried a few other heat protection products prior to this (kevin murphy/aveda), and this is the best so far for my fine, colour-treated hair. it sprays on light, the smell does not linger and it's pleasant when it is there, not overpowering at all (but as other reviews note – doesn't smell like honey, more of a light floral scent). it does not weigh down my hair and if anything, i actually get a few extra days out of each wash – I'm not getting oily hair as quickly as I used to since using this. another great product in the gisou line-up! I will definitely repurchase. opinion – you shouldn't expect this product to be fixing any problem with your hair – its a protective spray. it does have vitamins/stuff to nourish but that isn't it's main job!Zoe1337

I love this product! When I first used it I was drawn in by the smell. It is so light and refreshing and I love the guava scent. I have been using this for about a week now and am loving it! I use it mostly when I get out of the shower as a detangler. After spraying it, I am easily able to brush through my curly hair, which usually has a lot of tangles. I also love that this is a heat protectant and that it doesn’t leave my hair greasy after using it. I will definitely continue using this in the future!Taywint

Does not weigh down or make my hair crunchy or stiff… very light weight. makes my Amika shampoo and conditioner work better!!! LOVE this heat protectant. great product! Thought I would hate the smell because I hate perfume but it is very subtle and faint and smells amazing!! I spray this in towel dried hair and then dry a little until my hair is somewhat dry.. then I add ORIBE split end seal… keep drying and then straighten or curl.. works great!eirolf2647

I have 2C/3A botticelli, coarse, high porosity hair that eats products and loves small proteins. This spray smells lovely and the scent lasts for quite some time (high po) like a perfume. However my hair does not like coconut of any variety and that ingredient is very drying so after a few uses, it went from shiny and lustrous to dull and knotty. This is definitely a “me thing” due to coconut sensitivity and I wish it worked out because I love the smell. I received this product as part of an incentivized campaign.threedoghouse

I purchased this product since I was looking to try a new brand of heat protectant. I really liked the scent, but I don't know that it is super effective for my hair. I found it odd that the instructions said to apply to dry hair, and I blow dry my hair so I ended up using a different heat protector on my wet hair. I used this prior to straightening my hair and it smelled good, but I guess hard to tell if it is effective since my hair still experienced the same issues with frizz/dryness that I did prior to using this. I also dislike the sprayer, it is very concentrated in one area so I ended up spraying in my hands and running through my hair so it could be evenly dispersed.abuff0916

This formula smells pretty nice and did seem to do a decent job helping to protect the hair. It added a little bit of shine as well. However, I do wish it helped to smooth the hair and control frizz better. I mostly liked to use it if I needed to refresh my hair and restyle especially if I was on second-day hair. I would spritz some product where needed and touch up with a blow dryer to smooth and style my hair again. I also used it when I needed to touch up my daughter's hair and preferred using it over plain water or a detangler spray. I'd probably only repurchase this for use on my young daughter's hair, it will be nice to protect her hair for when we have to blow dry it as well. For myself, I already have a cream that helps to smooth my hair and fight frizz better than this did, it also protects against heat. If this helped to smooth my hair and keep it frizz free I would definitely repurchase. As always the price is awesome!abq505

Like: the smell- it’s delish! Dislike: The stickiness/residue of it afterwards. If I got any on my hand, it would stick and feel not so great. Also, make sure to brush/comb your hair as soon as you spray it. I found that it kind of hardened if not brushed/combed out properly. Still trying it out- so I can’t see for sure if it’s working or not just yet. Definitely better than not using a heat protectant at all. But I’ve noticed that after I’m done drying/styling my hair, I don’t have as much frizz/fly aways- so that’s good!Target4Ever
