Holy crud, I have functioning hands. I started using the Organic Manuka Skin Soothing Cream – YoRo Naturals (in conjunction with Remedywear™ (TENCEL + Zinc) fingerless gloves) and immediately noticed my residual flaking from my flareup heal up almost overnight. Over the past several weeks, my blistering has decreased to the point that it isn't noticeable, the itching has almost vanished (some phantom itches here and there). The elasticity has returned to my palms and fingers, which means I can do things again, like washing the dishes without worrying about tearing my skin and scratching my cat in his favorite spot because I can bend my fingers. After suffering psoriasis on my scalp for most of my life it had increased in the last few years. I tried this shampoo on the recommendation of a fellow sufferer. I picked this up at Walmart for about $7 after a bout of itching on my scalp that nearly drove me insane. I live in hot, humid Texas and have curly hair that requires leave-in conditioner and other products and cannot be washed daily, so this happens to me nearly every summer but this was the first time it was severe enough to require treatment.
I of course googled the symptoms, I also had pimple sized bumps on my scalp and specks of skin or buildup along my roots after itching my head and came to the conclusion that it was likely a fungal/yeast overgrowth or “infection” caused by the combo of sweat from hot weather and leave-in hair products. Not a big deal, lots of over the counter options luckily.
l chose this immediately because it was the only FRAGRANCE FREE product for “dandruff” in the bunch and that’s a huge bonus for me because I have sensitive skin and only use fragrance-free hair/skin/face products. In my experience, a product being fragrance-free typically speaks to its quality. It’s usually more focused on effectiveness than winning people over with sweet smells or pretty packaging. It also contains “zinc complex”, kukui nut oil, green tea and safflower extracts; so I felt it wouldn’t be too harsh.
It’s powerhouse though is the 3% salicylic acid, a very high percentage for an over the counter product. Salicylic acid is a beta hydroxy acid (BHA) found mostly in acne products and is a super effective exfoliant that’s typically well tolerated by everyone. I believe the highest percentage allowed in facial products is 2% (without a prescription) but the skin on the scalp is much thicker than gentle facial skin and 3% at this price point is impressive.
I bought this and a bottle of Nizoral (for the ketoconazole 1% in it, in case it’s a yeast infection or is otherwise fungal); though I would have purchased that in generic had they had it. I wet my hair and lathered it up with the Dermarest first and left it in for about an hour as I did things around the house. I already felt relief by the time I rinsed it. I followed up with the Nizoral, left it the same amount of time then rinsed and conditioned. The bumps dried up and disappeared within 2 days and the itching is gone after that one use.
The larger size (8 fluid ounces) compared to most shampoos in this category and the frangrance-free/high salicylic acid combo made this the obvious choice for me. It’s also recognized by the “National Psoriasis Foundation” per the bottle. I plan to use it in conjunction with the Nizoral about 2x month during hot months. I’ll definitely repurchase as a stand alone anti buildup shampoo though, year round.H

My daughters scalp was so dry, she had huge, thick scaly patches. The huge patches itched her so bad, she would scratch them until they bled which resulted in a head full of large flakes. It was hard for me to see her that uncomfortable. I tried a bunch of things that did nothing until I found this product. Immediately after one use the patches had a major improvement. I have locs/dreadlocks and was suffering from an intense itchy scalp, combined with large flakes that would get trapped in my locs. I'd never been to a dermatologist to get a diagnosis, but according to Dr. Google I was dealing with scalp psoriasis or seborrheic dermatitis. The itching would get so bad that my scalp would bleed from me constantly scratching at it. I found myself dusting off my shoulders at work due to the amount of dandruff and flakes from peeling scabs on my scalp. It was insufferable and frustrating. I tried oiling my scalp more, oiling it less, using expensive natural shampoos specifically for African American hair, and other shampoos that claimed to deal with the problem. Nothing was working. I didn't want to comb out my locs or cut them off, but I was tired of dealing with the itching and afraid of buildup getting trapped in my hair. I had a loctitian recommend this shampoo and was hesitant based on the price (it's really not that expensive, I'm just cheap) and because nothing else had seemed to work. I have suffered from seborrheic dermatitis for years (2006) and was prescribed an oil, a spray and a shampoo. Only the oil works but it’s expensive even with insurance. I have had scalp psoriasis for about 15 years and have tried many products, steroids, gels, creams, ointments, etc. but nothing really works. I came across this product in Boots and, although quite expensive, thought I'd give it a try. I have only been using this product for 3 days and have noticed a definite improvement – no burning and itching which I usually experience on and off throughout the day. I usually wake up in the morning and immediately start scratching my itchy scalp but for the past three mornings I haven't! I am also not scratching throughout the day with the inevitable and unsightly side effect of falling skin flakes onto my clothes. Just one note of caution: it does tingle quite a bit when it goes on but settles down after a short while. I will continue to use but might see if it's available on prescription as it costs quite alot of money.amon000
This product will not work for every psoriasis sufferer (probably for reasons related to the types of psoriasis), but it has certainly worked for me, a long-time sufferer. Unlike steroids, which have short-term effects but in the long term will invariably make the skin problem worse, this cream is entirely natural. It does not have much demonstrable effect in the short-term, but in the long term it is nothing short of a miracle for me as my skin is being restored to its natural state. Be patient and persistent, if you are a long-time patient because the raised scales built up over thirty years can take three years of application of this cream, twice a day, every day, to become normal. In general, newly developed red spots should disappear after regular applications for up to a month or two. Let me say before I start this review, I wear a headscarf. Reason I say this is because some of the other reviewers mention that this leaves residue on the hair and looks rather awful. They are totally right, it's greasy, it can pill up into chunks easy, it makes your hair stiff and gross, BUT IT DOES WORK. As a hijab-wearer I don't care about how my hair looks so much, so long as something helps my scalp and this genuinely does. I've already repurchased after nearly using up one that I bought about a month ago so another downside is how small it is, in my opinion. Or perhaps I just have more psoriasis than others so more ground to cover, not sure.
