Sound: Being 16 bit this mic will not compete with professional analog mics or 24 bit digital mics, however for 16 bit it is exceptional. It is a flat EQ mic and if I had to say where the weakness lies it might be in the high end, but it might be perfect depending on the range of the vocalist. I feel any frequency issues could be corrected with EQ in the DAW. Features: Most useful feature is the ease and simple connection via USB. There is also a mini-jack in the mic, so you can plug in headphones and monitor directly from the mic itself. Meaning, you could hear raw audio as the mic hears it, then via another pair of headphones hear the audio or mix from the DAW. Very handy. Weakest feature is the 16bit convertor. Its good, just 16 bit, not 24. Ease of Use: Extremely easy mic to set up and begin recording with. Quality: Mic is solid, well crafted. Heavy to the feel, good paint and nice cables. Includes a little stand. Value: This mic is extremely cheap compared to other mics of the same quality. I think it is the best of its class by far. Manufacturer Support: I haven't dealt with AudioTechnica before, but there is the good reputation. The Wow Factor: Very appealing to beginners and semi professional musicians. Could even be a great mic for a professional musician for the road, random spontaneous recording, since it is portable and connects via USB so easily. Overall: After researching for many months, I decided on the AT 2020 USB mic. This is a high quality mic with excellent range and detail for instrument and vocals. There really is no question that the mic has excellent recording, the only fact you need to be aware of is that this is a 16bit input not a 24bit input. 16bit is 'just' enough quality for a semi-pro recording session. I believe in terms of 16bit mics and USB mics this is the best model.
I bought this mic having read/watched reviews that this mic is great for the price and it almost sounds like semi-pro quality. But I can confidently say that this is semi-pro quality. In journalism school, I used some of my school's high-end Shure and Rode condenser mics (that I couldn't possibly afford on a good month). This mic is nearly comparable, especially for those that are perhaps outside of a professional industry. I would not recommend for someone looking for the premium quality like they'd find in a professional studio or that a professional musician/broadcaster would use. You're going to notice the limits of this mic when you're using using audio softwares or otherwise editing audio samples, as you'll have more to edit than the high-ends. And you're not going to get that in-your-throat, better-than-real-life sound that the studio mics offer. But with a few minutes of extra editing, it'll be hard to tell the difference. You are going to get clear, robust, accurate, noiseless audio from it. And for those concerned with the physical build, it does match the high-ends – heavy, fully metal, seamless, matte. It also comes with a nice travel bag and screw-on mounting bracket that will allow you to mount your mic to most stands. Maybe some of you will find this analogy useful: if you're used to a 60 fps framerate (most TVs and office monitors), and 144fps+ is the pro-standard, this mic feels like 100fps. It's going to be a world of difference from the 60, and hard to tell at a glance that it's not 165. It's everything I wanted and more. Looking forward for using this for lots of voiceover projects!
I set up in my basement with it a few weeks ago and started messing around, have found nothing to be disliked. The overall sound is good, it has strong low end for my growls, and it doesn't have any problems with recording at any volume. I even put it in front of my drumset to see if it'd pick up okay, which it did surprisingly well with. I haven't been doing vocals for very long, but from what I can tell it easily competes with mics twice the price. 10/10 would recommend, worth it. P.s. get a pop filter toothe wheat man

But once I had more money I bought my SM58 since I knew how much of a classic mic it is. It was a great decision I solely use it now and it sounds great and so clean. Overall: Seeing the pictures online made me think one thing. But then seeing in my hand made me think another. This is a rather small microphone in comparison to what I've used in the past. Transitioning from a monsterous Sterling Audio ST-79 to the TLM-102 made a HUGE difference. The depth of the vocal is outstanding. The frequency range is great and the Higher SPL makes it able to withstand some of the loudmouth vocalist rappers it will be used on. I myself have a deeper raspier voice and this mic works wonders on the clarity of it. In the mix there is much more control on dialing in to get the sound you want. This little Big Dog is now my Go to mic for Vocals out of my collection which includes: a. (1) ST-79 -Sterling Audio – Condenser b. (1) ST-55 – Sterling Audio – Condenser c. (1) MXL 990 and (1) 991 – MXL – Condensers d. (2) Fathead I – Cascade – Ribbon e. (1) TLM-102 – Neumann – Condenser (these are just my Vocal specific mics) All in all I love the mic and the mixing flexablity, its smaller size, and its versatility in use. Sure there is not a bass roll-off, or pad switch so it may not be best for SOME RANDOM VERY SPECIFIC NEED. But for the typical use of a microphone this thing has become my best friend.Chris
Over a year ago I upgraded from an AT2020 to this TLM102. I use this microphone for all my vocals and when I first used it after growing so accustomed to the AT2020, I fell in love with this thing. Immediately I could hear a huge jump in clarity and fullness of my voice. It does something lovely with the top end as well, taming it into silky smoothness. Harsh high frequencies that I used to have to EQ on my AT2020 became somehow pleasant on the TLM102 and I didn't have to EQ them anymore. I would call the sound of this microphone warm and bold compared to other condensers that I have used. I have a SM7B which is my second best mic and while I can get a vocal from it to sound close to the TLM102 in quality/clarity, the noise generated by the TLM102 is way lower than the noise I get from the SM7B. I can add a huge amount of compression to something recorded with the TLM102 and I don't have to worry so much about noise. I find myself having to use less dub tracks because the sound is so present and bold. Another thing is that it doesn't pick up electrical hums where every other mic of mine will. The microphone feels like magic and I highly recommend it. I feel that if I am to try and upgrade to something else in the future and spend a bunch more money its not going to be that much better than this TLM102. Maybe I'm wrong but this mic is Beautiful!
I play acoustic fingerstyle guitar and I was looking at some mics options to do some recordings… this mic is absolutely brilliant ! It captures amazingly the sounds of an acoustic guitar, very detailed and all nuances can be heard. Very rich and natural sound and exactly what I was looking for acoustic guitar recordings. I own one of these already, and wanted to add more reinforcement of these microphones to my collection. Using the microphone I already own as a Internet Radio DJ microphone, adding on a desktop boom stand, and a professional dual-mesh pop filter. I purchased two additional AT2035 microphones to allow guests on the radio programme. The unit comes with a compact, well designed shock mount, and a convenient carry pouch. The shock mount attaches easily with some force, but the pouch is useless if you want to keep the shock mount attached to the microphone and travel with it. The pouch would better be useful if it were a protective satchel or bag. It feels like the included protective pouch was designed to just protect the microphone, before the inclusion of the shock mount. In either case, the microphone and shock mount are a good combination, and has nice warm sound. Using it mostly for vocal speech DJ hosting work, can't say much for the singing. My original AT2035 microphone has been in service, doing weekly radio programmes for more than a couple of years now, without fail. So the unit is well designed, robust, and even though I marked "Heavy/Bulky" under "Cons", it is ACTUALLY a PRO. This microphone is not intended to be hand-held, and should always be mounted on a boom, or microphone stand, along with some form of shock mount, and therefor, the heaviness and bulkiness of the unit is a POSITIVE thing. This quality not only adds to the sturdiness of the unit, but its stability in its use. Metal construction on the outside, and thick metal wire mesh to protect the internal cardioid capsule, the microphone can not be picked up without feeling that the unit is built with some degree of durability. This microphone brings out all the subtle details of an acoustic instrument or voice. Although it has a cardioid pickup pattern, it picks up two voices very nicely on a video call, better than with a typical dynamic mic. If you want to be kind to your audience don't rely on the microphones built into laptops or video cameras. My Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 provides phantom power, monitoring and a digital interface with my laptop. I prefer a single audio interface with quality preamps over a mic with USB interface. The shock mount works beautifully. A pop filter is a useful accessory but not always necessary.Peter
It's basically an upgraded at2020, and very much worth the money for the mic. It sounds just as good if not better then more expensive options, within reasonable expectations. It's not going to compete with an vintage mic, nor is it going to compete with a much more expensive mic with a specific sound signature. But for a flat, basic microphone, it is one of the best within it's price range. It picks up vocals where it is supposed to and drastically reduces sound from things like speakers positioned behind it. It is probably the best microphone you can get for video calls, streaming, and other activities where sound cancelation is important. Paired with a basic XLR interface with phantom power and it is the most clear you can get for your coworkers or friends for a very reasonable price. As someone that does work remote and as someone that hangs out with friends having a good mic is very important. My at2020 usb started having issues so it was only a natural progression to get the next tier up and an inherently better usb interface for it. I've been looking at these for years. I have a lot of mics, you may say I'm a collector of sorts. Many mics I have were purchased not working and I was able to fix most of them. I have known about the RE20 and it's rich heritage and sound. I broke down and bought it and have not regretted it. It sounds great recording kick drum, bass guitar, and many voices. It took me a few tries to find my personal sweet spot, but it's a great plug-and-play mic.The RE-20 is a very transparent mic, I use it with a Cloudlifter and it gives me condenser sensitivity with great protection from errants pops and ambient noise.Seems very well made, if not particularly nice-looking. I'd be worried if the internal foam popscreen got wet+moldy…I have an acoustically poor recording space, this mic allows me to record pretty much anything, while keeping ambient noise out of my track. The Re20 is an industry standard for broadcast mics. It’s price is a bit high, but if you are looking for the best you have to pay for the best. It was a close decision between the SM7b and this mic, but matching the sound of the other mics at my radio station was a must and the SM7b was just a little too “warm” a mic for me. It didn’t hurt any that the Re 20 was on sale other. If you are looking for a great quality mic for home studios or broadcast this is definitely the mic for you.Doug

If you go to certain sites that shall remain nameless, you would think this is the worst microphone of all time. I don’t get it and I never will. Was my first nice mic in 1999 and this mic continues to amaze me. The lowest noise you will ever hear. Super dynamic. Sounds amazing. It needs the correct preamp (Rupert Neve Designs 511 or any of the portico line is a great place to start- they sell those here). It has a huge proximity effect so mic placement is paramount to good results. I think that’s why a lot of people don’t like this mic. It requires a little effort to find optimal placement. If you hate this mic, you’re just a lazy engineer and that’s all there is to it. Find the sweet spot and it’s golden on more than it isn’t. U87ish sounds at a fraction of the price. Fantastic on vocals of all flavors (hint- give the capsule some room!). Unbelievable as drum overheads and room on drums. Not my fav on acoustic guitars but certainly acceptable. One thing I don’t hear mentioned enough about this mic is how it stacks! Among the best I have ever heard stacking guitar amps or backing or lead vocals. Takes EQ phenomenally well.Steve
This is obviously a good vocal mic as it is highly regarded and a modern classic. However, it's not a one size fits all as most all mics are not. This is not overall bright as others have mentioned. With eq you can give it a more modern sound, but if you want something bright with a nice top end from the start you may need to look elsewhere. Overall a good mic though for the price.Anthony

I loved the sound, finish and ruggedness. It's been my go-to ever since. The finish kept it from upstaging the talent. Back then, this was a selling point. The 565 would glare in the stage lights, but not the 58. I once accidentally through one across the stage showing off how rugged it was. Small bent in the windscreen, but otherwise fine. Ordered this for our church. Mostly vocals and some speech. Mic is a fantastic upgrade from our older model Shure BG3.1 mics. I know we had these for a long while but this sm58s sounds fantastic and made a huge difference in clarity and crispness. I was told the Shure sm58 is one of the best all general purpose mics for sound quality and build and so far (a few months now) I couldn't agree more! As far as the switch goes, our old mics had them so I kept them the same but I seem to like having the switch in the event you don't have someone at the sound board you can set it up and just switch on when needed. Sound: While the Blue Yeti may not be THE best sounding USB mic right out of the box, it does have good sound quality. With a little tweaking through a free audio mixer software like Voice Meeter Banana will result in a very professional sounding mic without spending the big bucks. Stock settings will give you more than sufficient sound quality though. With easy access to the knobs to control the gain and pic up pattern makes for easy adjusting on the fly. Due to the pic up patterns I would only recommend this mic for individual use and not for an interview setting. Price: Being priced at $130 isn't terrible, but should probably be closer to the $100.00 mic segment given it doesn't have XLR. Personally, I would opt to buy the Blue Yeticaster Broadcast Bundle which includes the mic (no desktop stand), boom arm, and shockmount for $180-$200 vs the stand alone Blue Yeti Mic for reasons below. Purchasing all three items individually would be in the $280 range Keep in Mind/Cons: I would highly, highly, highly recommend a boom arm for this mic. The desk stand for the mic is not very useful. I found myself slouching over due to having no height adjustment. Additionally, to get your mouth the appropriate distance from the mic for optimal sound quality (without cranking the gain) means the mic stand is sitting at an awkward spot in relation to your keyboard/mouse. I also found that with the desk stand no matter how I positioned the mic, set the pickup, gain or gate I could not eliminate picking up desk noise such as keyboard clicks, mouse clicks, or even setting my phone down on the desk due no shock dampening. Even setting the stand on a towel did not assist much. Mounting the mic to the Blue Boom Arm completely fixed the unwanted sound and positioning issues. If you are going to mount this mic to the Blue Boom Arm I would recommend installing it with the shock mount. The shock mount isn't much of an advantage sound quality wise, but definitely helps weight wise with the boom arm. While this mic is heavier than normal it's not quite heavy enough on it's on for the Blue Boom Arm. I found the boom arm wanting to "snap open" on the loosest tension settings due to there not being enough weight at the end of it. Adding the yeti shock mount to the mic and boom arm allowed for the proper weight to adjust the mic to my desired position without any sagging or raising. In conclusion, I would highly recommend this mic being purchased in the Yesticaster bundle due to the savings vs buying the individual components. While I still can recommend the mic being purchased individually, I believe you're going to be wanting a boom arm sooner rather than later due to the desk stand offering no dampening or height adjustment.Preston H
So far so good, sounds excellent as expected. I will likely need to put it on a box to elevate it, or get a boom mount. Installation was removing from packaging and plugging in the usb cable. Done. This review is taking longer to write than the installation. What surprised me though is that it's about twice the size I expected. I figured it was maybe an inch and a half wide, subconsciously extrapolating from smaller hand held mikes I've had previously. It's 2-1/2 wide at the screen, 2-3/4 on the main body. 11-1/4 or so tall. I've seen complaints that the stand is flimsy, but it sure isn't, it's pretty weighty and metal, not plastic, which is good. You do need to tighten the side screws to firm positioning up, but that's done with fingers. There's a threaded hole on the bottom that's about 1/2 wide, apparently you can get a 1/4-20 adapter for it. I'm guessing it'll screw into a mike stand, but I don't have one to check. Nice rubber bottom, anti-skid and won't mark your desk up. I'm pretty happy with it, the build quality is good, no complaints there. Using with a Mac, just showed up in preferences as a selection for both input and output (has a headset amp built in, 1/8 jack). Recorded a test video screen capture with voice over, no problem. The multiple patterns are nice, I haven't tried them all yet, but I'll probably just use the Cardoid/single person pattern mostly. Ideal speaking distance seems to be around a foot, but you can easily use it from a yard or more away. Has gain control that I didn't even need to turn up at all. All in all, it seems like a no-brainer. I see why the major reviews are pretty unanimous in recommending it.Jay
White-out is gorgeous, nice to have software support but also physical buttons. Yeti mics used to not have any native software controls but now they are recognized inside Ghub so if you want to do things like equalizing via that, you can (or whatever other audio software you are using). The physical buttons are also great though because you can make adjustments on the fly without having to navigate to software. That makes it pretty versatile for a lot of different use cases. Some people are experts and doing some serious audio work, others just want a nice mic for their zoom meetings. I'm in the latter category. I do think there are better mics out there for audio experts but for the price, this is an awesome mic for someone who just wants to sound better than everyone else in their meeting or want some good controls for things like background nosie.Spacey

This microphone is the gold standard for vocal recording, and I can't believe that I used anything else before now. What's the secret to the sauce? While besides the decades of experience backed by the Shure name, this microphone features a VERY defined cardioid pickup pattern. What's a cardioid? Why do I care? If you're asking these questions, I'll simplify it by saying this: if you're recording in a situation where you want the least amount of background noise, this is the pattern for you. Especially vocal recordings, podcasters, and the like, will enjoy the dynamic range that won't clip or cut out at loud sounds like you do with condenser microphones. The pickup range is not directional, but you do need to be conscious of distance, as I'm sure you'll find once you start using it. I did use this microphone plugged into an audio interface into my computer, so that may have introduced a tiny bit of noise, but I was blown away by the results I got from recording. This is nothing like the lower cost and less dedicated microphones I have used in the past. Very well made, as you would expect from a microphone at this price point, and the frequency response modes are set by sliders on the back of the mic. The mounting and cable connector are set up for a boom arm or a stand. Because of the integrated pop filter cover for this microphone I toyed with the idea of using it without a pop filter, but I think i'm just too "spitty" for that, so I've shifted to using one. I have another review that I wrote about this mic, but B&H's website doesn't appear to let me update that review. I've now been using this mic almost daily for over a year. The audio is crisp and clear, background noise is kept to a minimum, and people on the other end of the meeting/phone call give compliments on the detail that this mic captures. I used to use a condenser mic, but that also had the annoying feature of picking up a lot of 60Hz hum. This mic doesn't do that and I didn't have to make any adjustments to the room either. For the person who mentioned they couldn't fit it in a shockmount, it has one internally. That is why the mic is the size that it is. For those complaining about the USB port, mine hasn't had any issues. I accidentally bent the micro usb connector on the cheap cable they shipped with it and the mic survived just fine. The cable, on the other hand, was useless after that. I solved this problem by finding a 90 degree USB adapter so that the connector isn't pointing straight out the back of the mic. It now sits mostly flush and swiveling the mic is more likely to cause the adapter to disconnect at the other end. If your laptop, like mine, is usb-c only, don't try to buy long usb-c to usb-c cables. They are crazy expensive. Instead, try to buy a usb-c to mini or micro usb-b cable. They are much cheaper. My setup is usb-c to micro usb (10 feet), then an adapter from micro-usb to usb-c (1 inch), and then finally a short usb-c to 90 degree micro-usb adapter (6 inches).Darrin
Since working from home for over a year now due to COVID, I've invested in better quality gear for my home office. I've also started creating content for LinkedIn, YouTube, and other platforms. So I needed to get a microphone that could work as a desktop microphone, but I also wanted something that was able to plug into a sound board via an XLR cable because I might end up picking up one down the road – so I wanted a "future proof" microphone. A buddy of mine who also hosts his own podcast series recommended the Shure brand because that's what he uses, so when I saw that Shure had the MV7 that could connect via XLR or USB, I picked it up. The MV7 also features capacitive touch controls on the device for gain level and muting. There's also an AUX port available for connecting headphone to monitor the sound quality. The microphone itself is designed to be attached to either a tripod stand, or a boom-type arm. Right now, I'm using a stand for it on my desktop until I find an arm that I like. It's important to note that the MV7 does not come with a stand on it's own – so make sure you have one ready to go or plan to get one before using it. As far as cables, it's nice because the MV7 comes with 2 cables: a MicroUSB-to-USB-A and a MicroUSB-to-USB-C for connecting to a computer. I was pleasantly surprised because it's been my experience that most devices like this come with one type of cable and it's on you to figure out how to connect it. The sound quality of the microphone is excellent. I've had people on Zoom and Teams calls remark how much clearer I sound versus using the built-in microphone on my laptop. I've recorded audio segments, speaking naturally and I've been impressed with how well they sound and how much background / white noise is reduced or eliminated. The MV7 also has some accompanying desktop software to adjust the sound quality, but I found that I could leave it on the auto settings, you can see those in the images I uploaded. I really like the Shure MV7, it feels solid from a build quality perspective, can connect to Mac / PC or mixing board, and is also small enough that you can take it on the go if needed.cjviscito
I got a MV7 with the mini tripod and couldn't be happier! It sounds great. That little stand is sturdy, lightweight, easy to position, and I'm fairly certain it's made by Manfrotto. The mic itself comes with a micro USB connector as well as an XLR. As a recording engineer, I appreciate the inclusion of an XLR. I could see myself using this to record a podcast, or even a vocal. It should stack up pretty well to the original SM7B, at least in theory. I use it for Zoom and Teams meetings, and for that it's excellent. The MOTIV app works really well, and is updated regularly – at least monthly. The fact that you can set gain and see the input levels right on the mic is super helpful. I might've preferred a more positive click on the mute button, but I mostly use the conferencing app's mute instead. As much as I like the little tripod, it actually is too low for me. I have a long torso and switched to a low & heavy-base mic stand intended for kick drum or double bass on my desk. Then I can boom the mic in, keeping it just below my mouth yet out of the camera shot. The yoke mount on the MV7 makes it easy to position. Besides some tiny niggles, I think this mic is fantastic. Very impressed when this arrived, it really is quite breathtakingly beautiful. It’s pretty weighty too which makes it feel like a high end item. Sound quality is as you would expect from Shure – it’s not something I would use for recoding particularly as it seems to really pop without a guard, and I’ve not had a chance to use it live yet. Sound: It sounded better than I expected. I have been a singer for over 30+ years so the sound factor is something you just have to fine tune on your own. If you get too close it will have some popping which happens with most mics so don't eat the mic when singing into it. Features: It’s super cardioid… Ease of Use: Plug it in. Hit the phantom power button. That’s it. Quality: It’s well built. I’d suggest a chrome polish and keep it fingerprint free. Value: I feel it’s worth the price. I've had my eye on these mics for a number of years now and finally pulled the trigger, based on all the great reviews. We all know Shure makes good stuff. I've been using, and been very happy with, a Heil PR-35 mic for many years, but loved the look of the Shure Super 55. I have to say that the 55 suits my bassier voice really well and as many people say, sounds very natural. Plosives are just a bit more noticeable than my Heil, but the this has no windscreen. Not too much of a problem though if you pay attention when singing. It does seem very touchy with mic-stand contact, but I dont do any hand-held stuff as a solo performer so that's not an issue. My regular mic cable connected just fine, and I use mine on a boom stand, wit no problems at all with the angles and etc. Boom stand is about 15 degrees from horizontal and the 55 pivots up, no problem, to the perfect angle. I have to think this mic makes a nice subtle impression on the audience, and it sounds great. Highly recommended. And a shout-out too to my Sweetwater rep, Alex Campos, who I've worked with for many years now.

The RODE NT1 has long been a mainstay for any recording studio. This was my chance to get one and I have to say it's reputation has not been overstated. I have and have worked with many microphones in the last 50 years and the RODE NT1 has just become my all around "go to" mic. From it's almost noiseless "floor" (4.5) to it's crystal clear warm overtones, this microphone is pure joy to work with and at an affordable price. Top that off with RODE's 10 year manufacturer's warranty and you'll be hard pressed to find a better deal. I couldn't. Thank you Sam Ash for being close by and having my order in record time. Note the pop filter is no longer the same steel one pictured in the product photos, RODE uses a more standard circular mesh filter compared to the steel mesh. Nonetheless, still works amazingly and for the price/bundle + quality for a starting XLR set, it’s fantastic. Sounds clear, professional, there’s a reason the NT1 has been popular for so long now. Only gripe I have is the USB power – using my M1 iMac (which has only USB-C), even using a dongle in the thunderbolt port didn’t seem to power the mic enough which resulted in a LOT of crackling. Had to buy a USB-C cable capable of 100W and plugged in directly to my iMac, solved the issue. If you’re a Mac user, I recommend swapping the cable unless you have a USB type-A port capable of properly powering this mic. However, that’s just my experience, your experience may differ especially if you’re using PC, which I can’t vouch for. Overall though, highly satisfied.WhoelsebutCoop
If you are considering the purchase of your first condenser microphone, then I highly recommend the Rode NT1 Kit. – High build Quality – Everything you need comes in the kit – Strong signal – Low noise – Perfect on vocals and acoustic guitar When broadcasting on JamKazam and micing my acoustic with the NT1: someone that I play with frequently on JamKazam asked me; "What guitar are you using?", before answering I asked why do you ask? They said it sounds amazing. Then I told them its my Ovation elite that I always play, it is just that I am micing it with my new Rode NT1. To which they replied…Wow it sounded like you had a different guitar…it sounds so full and rich. I have had this microphone for a couple of weeks now and it has met and surpassed my expectations. Before buying I did my research into all condenser mics in the $300 range; compared specs, product reviews like this one. If you are on the fence about which condenser mic to buy to get started with, get off the fence and get yourself the Rode NT1 Kit. Trust me, you will not be disappointed.David
