First of all, don't get freaked out about the acid. That just means its on the acidic side of the pH scale. Guess what? The stuff in your stomach is too! Now, that doesn't mean you should drink this stuff (or even get it on your skin if you can help it), but it does mean it won't hurt your rims AS LONG AS you use the product properly and follow the directions. Pay clear attention to the direction and dilution ratios. Use only on recommended wheels. I believe if you use only on OEM wheels — ones with a clear coat — and avoid aluminum, you SHOULD be fine, but if in doubt, check with your wheel manufacturer. If still in doubt, test this product on a small area of one wheel. If you still can't decide, just use another wheel cleaner. I think even if you used this product on aluminum wheels, you can still polish them after use. So they'll be clean but a little dull. I couldn't believe how quick this product worked on my wheels when I first used it. I knew it was good stuff but I thought my wheels were relatively clean. Turns out, they weren't that clean. At least, this stuff got a lot of gunk off. I would strongly recommend you wear eye protection when using this product (or any chemical for that matter), especially with any brush that might "sling" any part of the product back in your face. I had sunglasses on when I first used this product with a new wheel brush and I'm glad I did. Now, I don't use any chemical without eye protection. Just a friendly tip. Be sure and rinse your wheels prior to applying this product. You want to work on cool wheels when using. Oh, and you might want to grab an acid resistant sprayer. You might want a few. I put this product in a Bona floor cleaner spray bottle (obviously without the Bona product) because I think their sprayer is the most acid/chemical resistant one there is. Sprayers may last a day or they may last a lifetime. Good luck, and again, don't freak out about words like acid that you may not fully understand. I liked that it was acid based because in the detailing world there isn’t much else than acid that cleans rims more effectively and efficiently. However this is not strong enough and will not clean your rims without physically touching them, which is why I bought this product. It is not worth the risk on your rims considering it won’t clean them completely and you risk being uneven. Consequently, this means it’s good for water spot removal since it’s not so strong as to burn windows during a full on acid bath. Usually when I finish detailing my car (wipe down with Ultimate Quik Detailer), I'll take the towel and wipe off my rims. I thought I'd give this product a try, since it offered being a tire dressing as well. It left my rims clean, shiny, and smooth/slick, and did provide some level of tire dressing as well. If you're looking for the deep shiny gloss you get from gels, this isn't it, but it also did not "spray" over the car after driving nor did it leave residue on my car cover. My rims had a bit of dust and dirt from the recent rains, and the spray cleaned that up fine. My impression is that if you have caked-on mud or dust, you should still wash it off first before using this product, or you'll have to do a second application. I am a big fan of Griots product and use many of them. This one was a total dud. I sprayed it on my custom chrome rims after a recent snow storm in Portland Oregon. I followed the directions and videos as prescribed. I keep my rims always clean and in pristine condition, these rimes have plenty of geometry requiring a lot of manual effort to conventionally clean. I bought this product believing from the product description details that cleaning my chrome rims would be simplified, less time, and they would actually look better. My rims had a lot if build up from recent snow which included deicer, gravel, all laid down on the roadways. This was the second snow storm in this area. After the first snow storm, I used muscle and tenacity to get them back to pristine condition. The product arrived after the second snowstorm, and i was excited to use it. I power hosed the rims, applied it, and did exactly what I always do in terms of scrubbing and cleaning and this product did NOTHING to accelerate or facilitate road grime and dirt removal. ZERO. Same manual effort as before. And, in fact, it did not even touch areas where the grime had condensed. I still had to toothbrush through every place where there was build up. This is the only one that changes color to show you that it’s working, and the only one that is gentle on my white powder coated wheels. I daily drive an R53 MINI Cooper year-round. It also works on most brands brake pad’s dust from Hawk, Carbotech, EBC, and others. With these street performance and AutoX pads, it does require scrubbing. Wow, this company makes amazing products to clean your car. I first found out about them through a friend and I’ve been in love ever since. They also make a lighter duty cleaner I believe, but this one gets all the crap off your wheels with ease and it’s safe on every type of wheels. The scent is citrusy and it changes color from clear to purple, so you could know you’ve covered the whole wheel. I have both steel wheels with ABS plastic wheel covers and alloy rims on the two Toyota RAV4s that I tried this on. It is hard to photograph the effect on the alloy rims, I think the ineffectiveness on the steel wheels and ABS plastic covers was pretty demonstrable. The distributor posted a video tutorial on how to use the product. Ultimately, this is no magic bullet. At the end, they say to "wipe down" the remaining residue to remove it. If I wanted to do that, I could use any automotive soap I wanted to. For years, I have used the fragrant green soap that is accepted as a pretty good and chemically safe for nature degreaser. I found that there's nothing magic about this product because the green stuff was actually more effective in removing the brake dust and road residue in addition to being considerably less money. Ultimately, it's less labor using the green instead of the black stuff. And, if you follow the manufacturer's directions, you will be ruining a microfiber cloth every time you use their product because you ultimately really do need to "scrub." The only thing that might be beneficial is if your rims are steaming hot, but I would never wash my vehicles when the rotors are hot because that's asking for a lot of trouble.EngineerHeaded

Anything that makes cleaning my car easier I am all in favor of. Especially the tires and wheel covers. Trying to get a scrub brush into the creases of the wheel covers would drive me crazy and I never could get them as clean as I would like. Street gunk and brake dust was always a major headache. Thank you Black Magic for coming up with whatever the formula is in this no scrub product. First of all, it could Not be easier to use. Just spray on, leave it set for a couple minutes, hose off and wipe off. Easy peasy and I found it hard to believe that this actually works this way but it Does. I did have to scrub a little bit on some of the tougher areas or thicker buildup rather. And the formula is supposedly safe with any type of finish or coatings, another perk. I sprayed the Black Magic Wheel Cleaner on my cool dry rims and waited 2 minutes. I sprayed cool water on all the rims. The brake dust was less but still on the rims. I used the included microfiber cloth and all the dirt and brake dust wiped away clean. Bought this for cleaning Honda and Porsche wheels and wheel wells, trying to find an economical alternative to Sonax cleaner. Used first on the Honda Pilot. The wheel centers are NOT painted/clear-coated so MUST be removed prior to wheel cleaning. So wheel comes off first, centers come out, and then get to clean the wheels. The cleaner did a great job on outer wheel faces and the outer tire face. The wheel barrel cleaning is OK, and the inner tire face cleaning is less than ideal on my car. Outer faces get regular black tire shine treatment, wheels get regular clean and paint sealant. Use: I used it at 1:1 dilution in a spray bottle, surfaces "agitated" after application with a medium brush. I applied and brushed twice on the insides/barrels. Original brake pads, clear-coated aluminum wheels including barrels. Barrels and faces were sealed using Meguiars sealant at last cleaning. Inside tire faces were still dirty brown after two cleanings. 🙁 I like to keep the Honda Pilot wheel faces, tires, and the inner barrels clean and bright the way I keep the Porsche wheels and tires. Pilot gets the not-summer driving duty so contends with road de-icer slurry. The Sonax does a better/easier job removing pad deposits, but unfortunately costs the same for 16oz as this Meguiars cleaner costs for a gallon. This Meguiars cleaner dilutes 1:1 up to 2:1 per the label, so potentially stretches a lot farther than the Sonax. It ends up with an extra respraying and brushing/rinsing step, plus the wheels MUST be removed for center caps. It's north of a wash (sorry…) just on cost. I still have a few bottles of the Sonax to use on the Porsche wheels. Pilot wheels and undercarriage will get a bath with normal car wash detergent, then get a full paint sealant, before I pass final judgment on this product. So far, cleaning is good but not Sonax great, but overall $ value is better than the the Sonax. The Honda Pilot center caps are raw aluminum face over plastic, with a vinyl H emblem applied. This cleaner darkens the raw aluminum face and demands a manual polish and seal effort if inadvertently applied to the caps. An extra step if you screw up and try to clean the wheels on the car with caps in place. I made that mistake on the first wheel I did, won't again.B.i.C.O.

Product cleans Ok, hasn't caused any damage to my painted clear coated wheels, but it still requires the wheel to be wiped down, and that's on a car that is always garaged and rarely sees rain. I am a big fan of Griots product and use many of them. This one was a total dud. I sprayed it on my custom chrome rims after a recent snow storm in Portland Oregon. I followed the directions and videos as prescribed. I keep my rims always clean and in pristine condition, these rimes have plenty of geometry requiring a lot of manual effort to conventionally clean. I bought this product believing from the product description details that cleaning my chrome rims would be simplified, less time, and they would actually look better. My rims had a lot if build up from recent snow which included deicer, gravel, all laid down on the roadways. This was the second snow storm in this area. After the first snow storm, I used muscle and tenacity to get them back to pristine condition. The product arrived after the second snowstorm, and i was excited to use it. I power hosed the rims, applied it, and did exactly what I always do in terms of scrubbing and cleaning and this product did NOTHING to accelerate or facilitate road grime and dirt removal. ZERO. Same manual effort as before. And, in fact, it did not even touch areas where the grime had condensed. I still had to toothbrush through every place where there was build up. NO DIFFERENCE from the first snowstorm where I only used the car wash. It did not change color as advertised. What it did do was create a ton of suds during the rince…WORTHLESS.super1

This is the only one that changes color to show you that it’s working, and the only one that is gentle on my white powder coated wheels. I daily drive an R53 MINI Cooper year-round. It also works on most brands brake pad’s dust from Hawk, Carbotech, EBC, and others. With these street performance and AutoX pads, it does require scrubbing. They also make a lighter duty cleaner I believe, but this one gets all the crap off your wheels with ease and it’s safe on every type of wheels. So I’ve been using this for years now as it’s a cheap wheel/tire cleaner compared to other brands, especially German ones. I spray my tires all around, wait about 1 minute & I hose the bristles on my tire brush & get to work. It will clean the tires really good. For really baked in brake dust this product is as effective as car shampoo. For some reason brake dust doesn’t break down as easy as when the tires are sprayed. If a wheel brush it will help but also keep in mind the trigger on this product doesn’t spray a mist but rather a chunk of product so expect to go through a bottle after 1-3 washes depending on tire size & how bad the tires are. Ethos wheel cleaner is one of the best we have ever used. It works like a wheel cleaner should work. My partner and I have used 20+ different wheel cleaners the past few years trying to narrow down the best or one that requires little to no agitation. Spray on then Spray off for the most part and to use for a regular routine maintenance. Anything heavily soiled will require agitation via brush, etc. And honestly, that is to be expected with any wheel cleaner (if not the Acid would probably be too strong to ship or handle the product, etc.). Ethos is the closest wheel cleaner we have found that involves little to no touching of the wheels. It really works well and is a good product yet easy on the wallet. A gallon used to be available but I havent seen it in a while. Maybe that will come back soon. Great stuff!!J.P. M.

My STI creates a ton of brake dust. I have tried many products. Some work really well and dont require much brushing, but those cleaners are generally the ones that stain the wheel coating and make the car smell like rotten eggs for days. Decided to try this one since is BBS approved. Yes, it does require brushing, but the dust falls right off. Im not having to scrub it off. No stains on the dark gray wheels either. Best of all, has a nice light fruity scentB.W.

I've used many wheel cleaners and general APCs for my wheels and I always come back to the Griots cleaner. The other cleaners are just so harsh and terrible smelling. I've used Sonax, Griots heavy duty, optimum power clean among others. The green Griots cleaner has good, not great cleaning power, but more importantly I don't feel like I'm going to take years off my life using it. It also leaves a nice glow to to the wheels without spotting. If someone could invent a cleaner with the general benign nature of the Griots green with the cleaning power of Sonax, it would get a 5th star.H.E.D.C.

I am a big fan of Griots product and use many of them. This one was a total dud. I sprayed it on my custom chrome rims after a recent snow storm in Portland Oregon. I followed the directions and videos as prescribed. I keep my rims always clean and in pristine condition, these rimes have plenty of geometry requiring a lot of manual effort to conventionally clean. I bought this product believing from the product description details that cleaning my chrome rims would be simplified, less time, and they would actually look better. My rims had a lot if build up from recent snow which included deicer, gravel, all laid down on the roadways. This was the second snow storm in this area. After the first snow storm, I used muscle and tenacity to get them back to pristine condition. The product arrived after the second snowstorm, and i was excited to use it. I power hosed the rims, applied it, and did exactly what I always do in terms of scrubbing and cleaning and this product did NOTHING to accelerate or facilitate road grime and dirt removal. ZERO. Same manual effort as before. And, in fact, it did not even touch areas where the grime had condensed. I still had to toothbrush through every place where there was build up. NO DIFFERENCE from the first snowstorm where I only used the car wash. It did not change color as advertised. What it did do was create a ton of suds during the rince…WORTHLESS.super1

Best wheel cleaner on the market. I have tried at least 12 other products. This is the only one that changes color to show you that it’s working, and the only one that is gentle on my white powder coated wheels. I daily drive an R53 MINI Cooper year-round. It also works on most brands brake pad’s dust from Hawk, Carbotech, EBC, and others. With these street performance and AutoX pads, it does require scrubbing. One pass of all four wheels takes me about 15 minutes using a wheel brush to get behind the spokes, and the four finger mitts to get the curb appeal side.HowDryIYam

This is easy to use, gentle on wheel finishes, and has a pleasant smell. It did a great job removing basic brake dust and dirt but I bought it to remove more stubborn sooty marks from my wheels. Even after agitating the suds with a wheel brush, I was unable to remove that tar and I did not have much success removing some other dark flecks either. It could be that I expected more from this cleanser than it is designed to accomplish. I also don't own a pressure washer and rinsed my wheels with a jet of water from my garden hose. It is possible that this works better when rinsed off with a pressure washer or the pressurized wand at your local car wash.Claude

Went in not knowing what to expect with the Maguire's aluminum rim cleaner, have used others in the past with less than favorable results. But this stuff works GREAT, I tried it on my classic Jag and it cleaned and shined up the rims excellently. I would recommend to everyone. So the next week after getting the Aluminum cleaner went back and got the Chrome wheel cleaner from Maguire's to use on my F150, and it was even more impressive as it took the brake dust and what I thought was pitting out of the chrome and cleaned it to a brilliant shine. I have used many Meguiar's products over the years. Their Gold Class Car Shampoo is still my personal favorite car soap. I was hoping for the same here, but ended up a little disappointed. True story — I hate scrubbing wheels. It's boring, tedious, and I just want to get through it as quickly as possible. I was looking for a spray on, spray off type product, but this one is not that. It did remove grime and brake dust, but only if you scrub the area with a brush or wheel tool. Missed a spot? Too bad, the gunk will still be on there. It's really annoying when you have wheels with a complicated design like mine. Oh well, will keep looking.K.
