This is hands down the best curly hair gel on the market. I use 2-3 pumps for my whole head and scrunch it in after applying a leave in conditioner to very wet hair. It starts by drying hard but then as the day goes on, your hair looks and feels so soft and the curls are still in place. If i’m looking for a stronger hold because of a slick-back ponytail or something, I usually opt for a stronger gel like Not Your Mother’s. However, I still use Uncle Funky’s Daughter every single day and it’s been excellent for my 3b hair! And CGM approved!!! Worth every penny and lasts long.Natalie

I branched out a year ago to try new products for my wavy hair and I stumbled on this one. I wasn’t sure at first because it’s a weird texture. Kinda like a watery gel. I wasn’t 100% sure it would help my hair. Omg. I was so wrong to be skeptical. This stuff is in my everyday hair arsenal. I scrunch this into my wet hair after a shower. Sometimes it’s all I use and it leaves my hair soft and gently defined. If I want stronger definition, I add in Marc Anthony’s curly mousse right after this and scrunch it in with a t-shirt then let air dry. Once dry, I scrunch with my hands or a t-shirt to get the “crunch” out and my hair looks so good after. It holds the waves in nicely all day long and strong.kelly.w

Feels just like snot!! And gets the job DONE! So just so that you know, I’m a lazy 4C natural. Meaning I do bare minimum to maintain a few strands of hair on my non-chemically treated hair. I literally do not use styling products, partially out of laziness but even more so out of fear of breakage and dryness etc. I took a chance, and for the first tome in years, I tried a styling product, and this was it. It’s a gel with the exact consistency of snot. First wash your hair, condition, leave in condition or whatever, and then while your hair is still soaking wet, apply a GENEROUS amount. Finger detangle/shingle/whatever you to that usually gets a little more definition in your hair and boom. Soft not crunchy curls. Such an amazing hold without feeling like your hair is going to fall out. No flaking. where have you been my entire life? I have very thick course hair and I love it long. I also have a lot of gray in my roots so it gets wiry, and lets not omit the part where I insist my hairstylist texturized and razors my hair (she fights me every single time) for layers and thinning purposes. I was so excited to try the new Olaplex No.4C Bond Maintenance Clarifying Shampoo and was not disappointed! I start off by applying weekly in place of my regular shampoo to my wet hair at the scalp working to ends, working it into a lather, letting it sit for around 5 minutes to fully penetrate and process, rinse and follow with conditioner. This shampoo really does an amazing job clarifying my hair without leaving it feeling it dry like many others do because it is pH balanced. It removes buildup, damaging impurities, excess oil, pollution, heavy metals, and hard water minerals which basically covers so many things and what more could I personally ask for in a clarifying shampoo I ask myself? This shampoo also has Olaplex patented bond building technology so as I cleanse my hair it maintains strong hair bond which is so exciting in for me in this product that it has this too! I’ve have now used this styling gel for 3 separate wash n go combinations and I LOVE it. It’s not tacky/sticky and gives moisture, deep definition, and HOLD! For Type 4 curl girls, using this gel in combo with the Pom and honey coiling custard is a dynamic duo! I’ve been looking for a solid gel from Mielle for my hair type and this one takes the cake! Here lately I’ve had an issue with flaking when using my wetline xtreme gel for hold. This gel has replaced that one in my routine as I’ve had NO FLAKING when used with the custard or other clear/light-color styling products. Don’t Shrink is a CGM approved protein gel with olive oil, shea butters, and glycerin. Flax seed really helps my hair retain its curl shape, the large jar helped me explore different styling techniques to see what works best with my hair and the price helped me feel better about re-styling failed experiment days vs conserving pricy product; which let’s face it, there’s a lot of fails in the beginning for curlies lol. I tried it out with super long hair and also with a long bob reset chop and both had consistent results. I achieved really great definition with a hard hold, I still had frizz but I also know this is most likely user error since I’m always improving my routines. Like many wash and go naturalistas who rock the teeny weeny fro, I have gone through a lot of products trying to find that ONE which does what I need. This product is AMAZING! A little goes a long way. My hair is to the middle of my back, and I’ve been using the same bottle for almost a year now. Mostly on my edged and ends bc they tend to dry out the fastest between washes. I can use it to rehydrate a wash and go or revive my hair while its straightened. I love this leave in soooo much. I tried bleaching box dye out of my hair and I really damaged it and I need help getting my hair to feel soft again and this did that for me. The only con is that a little goes along way. I really like using these products and how my hair feels after using them. I ordered the whole set during the flash sale and when I received the products the shampoo, conditioning spray, and the conditioner weren't closed properly so most of the product was in the bottom of the box. I sent an email about the issue but I received another email for a link that doesn't work to open a ticket. No one has reached out to me and I have been sent the same link twice. This is one of my top five shampoos for people who have a four c hair texture! The smell is amazing. It definitely gives off hints of pomegranate and honey which is the perfect snow combination. I was a little disappointed when I received my black Friday package from Mielle. I have ordered before and have been pleased but this time it was like everything was thrown in a box and shipped. The box was so beat up its like the products could have came out and almost would have im certain had it been tossed around any more and I know that part wasn't so much their fault but I figured it would have been put into another box to ship to prevent that problem. The products had no confetti at least to soften how its thrown around everything was so greasy i thought for sure a product or 3 were leaking and also nothing was wrapped at least in bubble wrap considering how it was boxed up. Forgive me if I go into too many details about my haircare regimen, but I know the curly girls out there that need to know for this review. I use leave-in conditioner, curl cream/definer, followed by gel for my curls, then scrunch with serum once it's dry and set. I used the Pacifica Curl Definitely Defining cream as my second step product, and it worked well, better than other brands of similar price point. Wow! This product is like a magic. I just received it today and immediately tried on my yesterday's frizzy curls, and it worked just perfectly even without using all other Cantu products yet. This curl cream would be great for you if you’re not looking to have too much hold in your hair. It’s thick, but it doesn’t create a very strong cast for me. As you can see, my hair is already frizzing at the roots and it’s not completely dry yet. There’s no cast to scrunch out. The pump is also really hard to use and only dispenses like a dime size of product with each pump, which means I need to pump twice just to get enough for one section of hair. It is very hydrating, so I can’t knock it down too much, but it is probably my least favorite ouidad product, which is saying a lot because I LOVE ouidad. Just for reference, this was purchased for and used on biracial, relatively thick, spiral curly hair. This is a very lightweight, non greasy product with relatively good slip. It ends there. If this was the only product you wanted to use. No gel, no mouse, no oils, no creams, no leave in, no frizz control, I mean zero other products, then this might work for you. It immediately interacts with other products by leaving white clumps all over your hair. It doesn't matter if you use less/more of it or if you use less/more of the other, it is a disaster. I've tried this with SEVERAL other products from different lines and it always ends with the same result. It doesn't absorb later and disappear, instead the clumps turn into white flakes. Thousands of small white flakes. Like you've had glitter distributed through your hair. Water doesn't rid it. You must completely shampoo out the product.Donna L

I have long, fine, curly hair that can be a bit unruly and loves to frizz out in the summer humidity. I try to wash it only two times a week so I was excited to try the curl reactivator to see if it helps revive my curls. It works great in tandem with other curl products like the curl mousse. However, if it's the sole product you are using on your hair I will say that it's not enough to combat frizz, for me at least. That being said, it definitely does what says, it revives curls, especially ones that are 2+ days old. It doesn't weigh down the hair and make it greasy. My hair feels really soft after using. Really nice lightweight product that is perfect for wave/curl touch ups. If I’m honest, this isn’t too much different in performance to a watered down hair conditioner, but I love the convenience and that they got the ratio right. I have thinning hair and I love that this product doesn’t weigh my hair down or make it oily/greasy at all. To get the most out of this product, I like to slightly dampen with water and then go in with this. Not necessary to take that added step, but it helps stretch out the product more. I got this at the store today because I am trying to embrace my wavy hair for the summer and put less heat on it. I originally went to get the lightweight curl cream and figured I would get both. I tried this today on day 2 hair and I’m pretty impressed. It reformed my curls and took the frizz away. The only reason I deducted a star is because I felt like I needed to spray my hair with water to get the full effect. I was hoping this alone would do the trick. I will still continue to use this though and maybe on day 3,4,5 I can use without water. I have hair extensions as well and it works on them too. If I spray my longer thin hair with this when damp, my natural curls get definition and less frizz. It's my go to for wash and go days. It reminds me a little of a "saltwater" spritz, but it is very lightweight. My bottle did develop a problem… the spray kept getting clogged! It was so annoying. I though it was like hairspray and ran the pump with hot water, but the problem kept returning frequently. I finally realized it was IN the product. I ran it through a coffee filter and captured tons of hard white tiny bits that had been clogging the pump. Come on, Oidad!?! What's up with that!? Cost you a star lol. I use this daily on my curly hair. It doesn't leave my hair greasy feeling or looking like some of the other products I've used over the years, and I like the light coconut scent. As others have commented, it is a thick product and difficult to get out of the bottle, but my solution for that is to use a pump top from another product (like Mrs. Meyers hand soap) cut to the length needed for the SheaMoisture bottle. I save the screw-on top and use it toward the end of the bottle when the pump won't get out the last bit. Then I turn the bottle upside down, and when that doesn't work any more, I get a plastic knife and scrape the rest out. It's too good to leave any behind!!Barbara C.

Anybody with type 4 hair please buy this. I used this for the first time with the curl souffle and my only gripe is that I didn't try this a lot sooner. Super moisturising and lush on the hair. Gorgeous. My hair feels completely nourished and this is just on the first use. I would recommend if you are a thick type 4 you be quite generous when you use it because a fair amount works a long way if you are a tighter texture.Anna

I have been using Mielle products for a year now and love all the products I use including the hydrating spray. However, this is the first time I ordered from Mielle directly and I had a terrible experience. First, they forgot to include the spray in my original order. Then when I emailed them about it, they sent out another bottle but did not tighten the top before packing it. So by the time I received it, all the product leaked out in the box and all I was left with was an empty bottle. I usually buy from the store or order off Amazon. Works really well on short naturally curly or wavy hair when dry. Not greasy or oily. Washes out really clean without leaving residue. Compared several products in the store for about 1/2 before deciding to get this item. Will probably be buying this item regularly. Also, I do not use this product every day as I have found that using it maybe a few times a week ( 3 times at most or every other day) and just moving the natural texture of my hair around provides adequate grooming keeping my hair looking natural and not stiff or saturated with hair grease and gook. I have short, slightly soft, and loose curly wavy hair that is probably less coarse and kinky where the texture of this cream is stiff enough to provide definition but not so stiff that it flakes up or feels greasy to the touch. I started using this cream because a friend of mine said that it would tame my hair LOL. I have a ton of very wavy hair that could have been very pretty curls with the right stuff well… This is definitely the right stuff. Out of all the new products that come out, I some how go back to this Styling Creme. I have 4C hair, but this is the only product that gives me a great twistout. I do have to agree with the other comments about that it dries the hair, but a quick fix to that I found was to use a oil after you finish twisting your hair and again before you take your twist out. When I tried that my hair was soft, no crunching feeling. I also use Mixed Chick Hairdress. I don't think the stores sell it, but I brought directly from their website.Debbie

I am afraid to rate this product so highly because I do not want too many people to discover it, leading to further product shortage. However, I have been using this product for years on my natural curly, high porosity hair because it is super moisturizing and is the only product that works no matter the climate/humidity. I’ve seen some say that this stuff doesn’t moisturize. While that is true, I mix mine with a moisturizer. NOT ALOT otherwise the affect it has on the hair makes it look strange.
Also, best used on damp hair or wet hair. Not dripping wet, but wet.

I have wavy curls so my hair isn’t nearly as curly as some on here, but it does do the job. I suggest mixing Maui moisturize hair care with it to help not only with the smell if you don’t like it, but make your hair less likely to feel dry.
As for the smell, it smells like mango. But it’s a bit bitter. Almost tangy smell. It’s hard to explain but with the moisturizer, it’ll add that that sweet smell of coconut to even the smell out.Potatochip Blueberry

I've experienced that this product offers great hold, it does not control frizz very well due to the light/watery consistency. I used a botanical gel underneath and I think my hair would have had more frizz control if I used it on damp hair vs. soaking wet. I feel as if my hair dried quicker while using this product (I did sit under the hooded dryer) and the application was super easy. I felt that it had slip due to the consistency. The hold that this gives is correct. I would describe it as a firm-medium. Definitely not a strong hold. And I would agree with the reviewer that said the curls need to be sculpted beforehand. This is not going to give you much definition alone. Use this for additional hold and control. Overall, I think I would purchase again and I'm interested in trying their strong hold gel.Jasmine

I love this product. After my leave-in I usually have a few tangles, but when I use this cream instead of my usual cream, it gave me the best slip and gets all the tangles out that my leave in did not attack, and I had no frizz. It cut my wash day in half. It used to take me an hour in a half to do my hair (tangles, ugh!), now it only takes 45 – 50 minutes. My curls were so hydrated and defined. I just love this product. Don't let the size of the bottle make you think you need a bigger bottle because a little is all you need…about the size of a quarter if you're doing sections (I do 4 sections) but use it according to your hair density. My hair is a thick density on the top (this was great for that) and my hair is 3C/4A. It works perfect my sista's. Try it. Also, I noticed it has shea butter in it…a major plus for moisture. My process is LCG, I have oil that I use after wash day, but I tell you with this cream, you really don't need it. I didn't. Curl Talk don't ever change the formula!Robbin-Lynn

I have type 3c/3b Hair so I am always needing a good hair gel. I do like the original gel in this curl talk line. It provides adequate hold. Once this gel was introduced, I knew I had to try it. It does have a sticky consistency. But I am sure that is what helps the gel give that extra hold. You will have a hard cast on your hair once it is dry, but u can always break the cast if u want to. This gel holds up to humidity well. My advice since it is so sticky to the touch and to avoid tangling your hair is to apply your typical styling products before hand, and add this gel at the very last. It will be easier to work through the hair and wont leave a tangles mess. This is not a good gel if you feel like refreshing or combing out your hair the next day, just cause the extra hold that it does give. I am about 1 year into my CGM journey, and at this point – I rarely find products that work as well as my hair's natural oils. Even though I try to avoid shampoo, when I do use it (before hot tools or after about 3-4 weeks of conditioner rinses) I need to add a bit of moisture to make up for what I've rid my curls of. I tried this product after a wash day. It is one of the only products I've tried recently that actually feels natural in my hair. It helps to define curls and rid frizz. It dries with a light cast, but just enough for my hair to clump not enough to leave a waxy/dry texture like other competing products. I rarely feel comfortable using only one product. It's either a natural look sans products, or a mix of products (leave-in, oil, cream, maybe gel and spray etc., Depending on the style). This product is a mix of both worlds; leaves my hair natural looking without being too fluffy, yet offers enough moisture and oil for clumping without being heavy. Love the shine it adds. Ouai Curl Crème saves time for me since it's a cream + oil + hydrator + styling product. Great for traveling with. Easy to refresh dry hair with or style wet hair with. The scent is so luxuriously floral yet sweet, the packaging looks elegantly simple, and the bit about the "ex" on the packaging gave me a good chuckle. Ouai Curl Crème has my curls screaming, "oui, oui!" I have natural roots, ends relaxed and dyed (damaged), mix of curl textures (2b-3c), long length. Great on my husband's beard, 2a hair, and my son's 2b-3a hair. My hair is high density, low porosity.Amber

This product is clearly a creme that is not shy to define, and give your hair a subtle yet noticeable shine. IMMEDIATELY after drenching my hair in water, and applying the product, I barely had to touch my hair, and the definition was VERY apparent. Y'all, when I say, I was shook… I have never in all of my 21 years of life had a product instantly define my hair upon application. I barely had to finger comb. It for sure provides a nice element of moisture as well, and I find that the more I've used it these past couple of weeks, the softer my hair is getting. I'm not 100% sure if it's this product, or some of the other products that I've been using in my hair for the time being, but I do know that this is clearly the moisture and defining agent in the squad of hair products I've been using. This product has chia & linseed oil, babassu oil, and coconut oil in it, which are clearly carrying the product and running so that it doesn't even have to jog on it's own. Babassu oil is known as an oil that promotes high moisture retention, which seals the moisture into your hair shaft (ideal for high porosity hair types), and you know lack of moisture retaining products in your haircare routine is one of the #1 causes for breakage. Chia seeds are rich in fatty acids which work to not only penetrate your hair shaft (great for low porosity hair types), but seal in the moisture as well. Linseed oil is the same as flaxseed oil, which is high in vitamin E, and not only treats hair loss, but promotes growth. For my dry scalp peeps, flaxseed oil also can be used to prevent dandruff, and can provide relief. If you have damaged hair, or chemically processed hair, this is very ideal, since it has great moisture retaining properties, and it seals damaged cuticles. My only con is that I have been noticing slight flaking on certain occasions, but that happens with whenever a bad combo of products is mixed. I highly recommend!Jaylynn THEE Lively Waterfall

I have pretty curly hair but it's very fine and I was worried this cream would be too heavy but that is not the case at all! I use this on my hair while it's wet by section with a denman brush and my curls look incredible. if you diffuse, it creates a great mask for the curls that you can brush out after. my curls seriously last 3 days through workouts, sleep (I plop/pineapple my hair without a bonnet and they stay!) DC humidity, all of it. I use it with the OUAI medium shampoo and conditoner, and it's smells great! not perfumy or overwhelming. cannot recommend this more! in my pictures the one in the green shirt is day 3 curls, the other one is day one.larklewis

Seemed like a good idea to have a combination creme and gel product when I picked this up, but my hair just didn't agree with it at all. Even when I tried to follow the directions to "seal" the ends of my curls with the product, the result was just bleh. My hair had a dried out feel to it and it got incredibly tangled with this product in it. My hair is somewhere between a 2C and 3A for curls, so maybe it just wasn't curly enough for this product to work, but I wouldn't recommend it.knk1

I have tried a million products for my curls trying to find one that does as much as possible for as low a price point as possible – I need look no further! For context, I have a variety of curl types on my head (2C at the back, 3B at the front, and everything in between), medium thickness, low-porosity/virgin hair which is cut very short and this stuff works beautifully for me. It has enough hold to define my curls and eliminate frizz but it's lightweight enough to not pull my ringlets into waves, and enough moisture to look after them for a long time – I used to wash my hair every other day because it would get frizzy, now I can go over a week sometimes and it still looks good! It does need to be applied to almost-dripping-wet hair, and it does form a cast which I know some people don't like because of the crunchy feeling but I promise you that all you gotta do is scrunch it out when it's dry and then it'll look great. I usually use my fingers to apply it evenly all over my head when my hair is still wet, then scrunch and squish the hair from the tip towards the root to further distribute the product and bring back the curls. I then dry my hair with a diffuser until it is mostly dry, then I let it air dry the rest of the way. Only when it is COMPLETELY DRY do I scrunch out the cast – I'm then left with soft, bouncy and defined curls! It took a bit of trial and error to get the amount of product required right – if you don't use enough you'll get frizz but if you use too much it can leave you looking a bit greasy – but it's so affordable it's worth the trial! Oh also, the scent is amazing and does linger for a little while which is so nice – if you don't like coconut though, this may not be for you. I'd highly recommend giving this a go though if you're styling curls on a budget.Lillk001

I have very thick, long curly and frizzy hair. This product is perfect for me. It smells amazing, it gives moisture, shapes and controls my curls. No more frizz! I would highly recommend this product to anyone with curly hair. Best curl cream I’ve ever used.Cath7
