Lovely smell and made my hair feel really soft. Also made it easy for a comb to go through my hair. However, I was disappointed when I realised it contained sls. I have avoided this ingredient for almost a year so I realised straight away when it had an extreme lather. I assumed with this being a range targeted at curly hair that it would be free from this ingredient.

It's not often i find something for my curly hair that just works and i need to review to hopefully help others in their curly hair journey. I have a mixture of tight and loose curls and ringlets but my hair is prone to frizz. It doesn't matter what i put on my hair and i have tried everything, 2 days later i have a halo of frizz. This cream is amazing, definitely a holy grail for me. I use it as a curl cream (leave in) and 6 days later i still have no frizz. This is unheard of. I love the creamy texture, don't be put off by the oil in the name as it's not greasy at all. It leaves my hair soft, bouncy, defined and shiny. Yes shiny, something curly girls know is hard to achieve. I follow up with either the souffle or gel and hover over with my diffuser so as not to break the cast. Then finally use the serum to scrunch in. My hair has never looked or smelled so good. Curlsmith gifted me a free sample of this conditioner in exchange for my honest opinion. This cream is rather rich, but you need very little product, so it doesn't weigh down the hair. I'd start with a dime-sized amount and add more as needed. I tried it on two different textures, 3C and 4C, both shoulder length. I got the best results using a nickel-sized and quarter-sized amount, respectively. It makes both curls and coils look healthy, shiny, and hydrated. It doesn't weigh hair down, and I love, most of all, that it doesn't leave hair feeling soft, not crunchy. It looks fabulous and actually feels like hair! I have to note that following the directions is crucial for my desired results, especially on coily hair. I comb it out completely before washing, and constantly rake my fingers through it while washing and conditioning to keep it detangled Once the Oil-In Cream is raked through soaking wet hair, I use the recommended praying hands method to cover the strands as best I can, but I also gently tug as I go to elongate the coils. I find this helps immensely with shrinkage. Tie it up and fluff it in the morning and it's good for 2-3 days without reapplication, unless you feel like a little additional moisture. If you wash weekly, it doesn't leave hair a sticky, greasy mess, either. Overall, while using this cream takes a few extra minutes of care, the results are well worth the effort. Also, considering the amount needed even on thick hair, this jar holds a good amount of product. This is my first experience with the Curlsmith brand, and I'm delighted that it does what it says. I have heard great things about this product on media platforms that I decided to give it a go. I purchased the smaller tub for my first purchase incase it did not agree with my hair. I have tried many products over the years and many products claim to do wonders for curly hair and these many products have ended up being a let down. This is the only gel that makes me hair curly/ wavy after I put it on, I don’t need to scrunch my hair to see results, it just starts to curl. After that of course I scrunch it to my desire of curliness* but this is in my top 5 of gels. I don’t like gels bc they contain a lot of harsh stuff that can damage and dry out your hair but this here is the best! You won’t go wrong and the smell is like.. in between masculine and feminine. A combination of this product and the REDKEN CURVACEOUS RINGLET works really well as leave in conditioning products. I adjust the balance as my hair grows. I have long, fine, curly hair that can be a bit unruly and loves to frizz out in the summer humidity. I try to wash it only two times a week so I was excited to try the curl reactivator to see if it helps revive my curls. It works great in tandem with other curl products like the curl mousse. However, if it's the sole product you are using on your hair I will say that it's not enough to combat frizz, for me at least. That being said, it definitely does what says, it revives curls, especially ones that are 2+ days old. It doesn't weigh down the hair and make it greasy. My hair feels really soft after using. Really nice lightweight product that is perfect for wave/curl touch ups. If I’m honest, this isn’t too much different in performance to a watered down hair conditioner, but I love the convenience and that they got the ratio right. I have thinning hair and I love that this product doesn’t weigh my hair down or make it oily/greasy at all. To get the most out of this product, I like to slightly dampen with water and then go in with this. Not necessary to take that added step, but it helps stretch out the product more. I got this at the store today because I am trying to embrace my wavy hair for the summer and put less heat on it. I originally went to get the lightweight curl cream and figured I would get both. I tried this today on day 2 hair and I’m pretty impressed. It reformed my curls and took the frizz away. The only reason I deducted a star is because I felt like I needed to spray my hair with water to get the full effect. I was hoping this alone would do the trick. I will still continue to use this though and maybe on day 3,4,5 I can use without water. I have hair extensions as well and it works on them too. This spray works so well! We tried it for the first time this morning and it brought my son's curls to life! It's called a gel spray, but doesn't leave a crunchy feel which is great. Standing in the shower, on the first wash, my hair definitely didn't feel clean. The Curl Charisma didn't remove any of the products I had previously used during the week. Using a cleansing shampoo, I was able to get rid of any buildup. Then, I shampooed again with the Curly Charisma. It is a very thin shampoo and doesn't suds up (which I was kind of disappointed with after my first/second wash). Finally, I was ready for the Curly Charisma conditioner. It's thick and creamy. Worked through my hair and let it sit while was washed. Honestly, my hair may not have been in need of the rice amino and avocado hydration the shampoo and conditioner claim they have. My curls weren't limp by any stretch of the imagination but I felt like they were at vivacious and voluminous as always. I only purchased the 8oz. bottles. As others have commented, this shampoo is very drying. I noticed my hair felt dry (not stripped; but dry) after the very first wash. But, I have to be honest, my curls looked amazing! So much so that I went out the next week and bought the matching conditioner. But over time my hair just got drier and drier and eventually felt like straw after each wash. After about 4 weeks my hair was extremely dry all the time and had significantly more frizz. By 6 weeks I was noticing much more shedding and my curls were stringy and limp. . I tried everything to fix it. Different stylers. More frequent clarifying etc.. but my curls were falling flat and the frizz was out of control. I finally had to admit it was the shampoo. I stopped using this about 2 weeks ago and switched to the Shine shampoo and conditioner by Curlsmith. I saw an immediate improvement. Curls came back; frizz is better. It will take time to undo the damage from this shampoo but I'm so glad I stopped using it. If you hair truly, truly needs protein (like a lot of protein) then this could work great for you. Like if I’m styling my hair, I’ll use a heat protectant and do a mask or treatment on occasion, but I don’t typically use a product post-shower on the reg. This was a game changer. My hair had waves I typically can only achieve after styling with a heat tool. And it looked super healthy and conditioned. The luster and luminescence are reminiscent of the efficacy of Kerastase products, which I j'dore. The fragrance is beautiful, similar to other Living Proof scents – light, clean, fresh. I don't like using a lot of product on my hair. This product works great for my minimalist style. I have fine hair that touches my shoulders and it's pretty thick. I towel dry slightly first and then rub about a pea size amount on my hands and rake it through my strands as it instructs and I add a tad more in the front since I start application in the back. Scrunch, dry the roots for a little volume and when it's completely dry I flip my head upside down and scrunch a little. It leaves my hair soft and defined and looks great all day. I've been using the Curl Enhancer and Curl Defining Gel for about three weeks. It took some trial and error, but I have finally figured out appropriate amounts to use, and my waves look amazing. My hair is soft, shiny, and defined, there is zero crunch (as long as the appropriate amount is used), and I've noticed significantly less breakage. I have very thick, coarse 2a/2b waves. My hair gets weighed down easily, my scalp is oil-prone, and my skin/scalp are very sensitive. Most curly products don't work for me or cause issues with my skin, but the Curl Enhancer hasn't caused any issues with these concerns! My skin is clear (no breakouts or irritation), my hair has volume and isn't weighed down, and my scalp/roots aren't an oily mess. The only problem I did have was figuring out how much to use. A little goes a long way, and using too much can result in buildup. The first time I used it, I used too much, a cast developed, and white particles went flying everywhere when I scrunched out the crunch (gross!). I’m not impressed. Heavy for my fine 4C hair. But what bothers me most is the clumping of the product at the ends of my hair. Almost immediately after applying, I noticed tiny, almost imperceptible flakes on my forehead, in my eyelashes, and on my face. I thought my eyes were irritated by dust in the air. Then realized that the tiny specks on the inside of the lens of my eyeglasses were coming from my hair. I can’t recommend this product for that reason alone.
Kinda works but the smoothing gel with the as I am leave in gives me much better definition on my 3c/4a hair. I used those two with ecostyler as my final step and my hair never looked better. Also my hair stayed moisturized with essentially no tangles for over a week. That has never happened to me b4 using any styling combo. That said, I will not be purchasing the curling jelly again an will stick with the smoothing gel. I have loved just about everything I've used from Paul Mitchell. The product seems to do what it is designed to do, only tried it once. However, I would like to know how this product passed quality control due to the smell?!! It literally smells like the bottom of a litter box with 4 Male cats. It's super easy to apply and I was looking for something that not only added moisture to my hair but would help bring my dry damaged curls back to life and this product has been very good so far! I am so sad. I love this brand. prior to the formula revamp i bought the regular shampoo and the hair conditioner and my hair was so happy! it smelled amazing and my hair was so soft and bouncy all the time. I am not sure why they changed the formula but the new one, I can't wash it out of my hair fully no matter how long i scrub my scalp. The cleanser doesn't go on like shampoo. You cleanse from your scrap to your ends. It has a slight smell but not to overpowering and doesn't smell like chemical. I like that you can use it with color treated hair. My curls have lost some definition. I always condition after. I have medium thickness hair with S waves, not curly at all. I originally bought this for my daughter who has thick, curly type 3A hair, and I ended up trying it because I ran out of my usual leave-in cream and I needed some thing to put in my hair. I was absolutely stunned by the results! The ingredients in this looks pretty typical of most leave-in creams, but I think the way it was formulated makes all the difference. I apply this stuff from my ends and work my way up to about 3/4 up my hair. Never have I ever felt softer hair in my life! Since it has demithicone, you can rest assured that will provide optimum heat protection from blow drying your hair and it will keep frizz at bay. It washes off easily in the next wash and hasn't caused build-up at all. I believe it even extends the time in which my hair stays straight after using a hair straightener. So you no longer need to use a heat protectant after a leave in cream and you no longer need detangler because this stuff works amazingly. I have bleach damaged hair and this stuff made it feel less gummy. Since it works well for me and my daughter's type of hair, I don't think this is suitable for girls with type 3B-4C hair because it won't give the intense hydration that you're looking for, unless you're using this in a LOC method and using it as the first step.Alexandria
I normally use a cocktail of products for my 2C FRIZZY fine curls but I decided to try this on its own for the first time. So glad I did! I don’t know how – but this leave-in is quite the multi-tasker! It not only got rid of most of my frizz but my curls were defined, yet soft. None of that crunchiness I normally experience from mousses and other curl styling products. I got out of the shower with soaking wet hair, sectioned my hair, applied it to sections, combed it through, scrunched a bit, and let it air dry. It worked very well. Second day hair looked good, but by the 3rd day, I needed a bit of a refresh. Also, this stuff smells great. My only issues with the Nexxus Curl Define Leave-in Conditioner are: 1) Dimethicone is in the list of ingredients. I try to avoid silicones, as so many other curly girls do. Why did they have to use this? Means I can’t use this all the time, and need to use a clarifying shampoo sometimes to get rid of the buildup. 2) There was no seal on the jar. When I opened the jar, a bunch poured out on the floor. I thought my product was tampered with, but then read another review how this is how it comes. So – be careful when opening this initially! But still – this product is great. It makes my curls look great with little effort, really feels like it’s nourishing and moisturizing my hair, and smells great!Estabee
I’m hair loves conditioner and I protein and I am always trying new products. I tried the Nexxus Curl Define Strengthen and Moisturize Leave In Conditioner for Curls. It has proteinfusion with silk protein and Marula oil to lock in moisture while controlling gross, leaving curls soft and defined. My curls are always thirsty for more moisture and conditioning. The smell is similar to baby lotion products and I like it. You apply while wet, section, distribute evenly, and could be used as a curl refresher, I would recommend for curly girls. My personal opinion I would not use everyday, too much protein can be bad just like too much of a good thing can be bad. Iam using every other wash for me.corinne.b

Hello. I've been using this for over 20 years, and I've never had a problem with it until now. I purchased a tube just two months ago, but didn't use immediately until yesterday. To my surprise, after two months in storage in a cool, dark room, the crème in the tube had black specks in it, and it had separated into two parts–one was watery and the other was the cream. Over 60% of it was water. I had to shake it for a good 2 minutes to emulsify it. Like I mentioned, I've been buying this product for the past 20 years, and this is the first time this ever happened. I was very disappointed in the quality, and am beginning to wonder if Aveda is beginning to dilute this product to save money. Also, I loved your discontinued product from the Aveda Brilliant line: Brilliant Spray-on Shine 3.4 oz. It was one of my favorites; wasn't sticky and the fragrance was wonderful and light, not overbearing. Once again, disappointed that Aveda is discontinuing items from their older, classic collections. And please don't suggest I try products from your other collections because I've already tried several, and they are not equivalent to the Brilliant Spray-on Shine. My hair troubles are TOUGH! I have a head of hair that is long, fine, but there's a whole lot of it. My industrial job exposes it to 400°F temperatures, and more dry, dirty and dusty conditions than people can usually comprehend. It is always dry, and brittle, frizzy, split. But between this line of conditioner, and hair mask, my hair is wonderful again! It erases a long day in and out of the oven, I'm pretty sure it's just a bottle of magic. Please don't ever stop this line of products. It is the superior of the other lines I have tried, (even new ones) not leaving any type of residue behind. I was very concerned about trying this product because I never heard of a "co-wash". So I did a little research online and found out that a "co-wash" is a conditioning shampoo of sorts. Oh okay, and it won't strip your hair if your hair, like mine, is dry and prone to frizz! So, I'm a hair Type 4A with 3C pieces throughout and I have been loyal to Aveda for decades (*since the 90's) so I thought, will this work for my newly natural hair? Well IT WORKED! It worked quite well too! My hair was soft, nowhere near as tangled as it has been, and so smooth and smells great! I am not paid for any of my comments here, but I chose to write a lengthy one because if you're desperately searching for natural products for natural hair, you'll want a brand like Aveda. However, if you are in the Type 4 category, finding a product for our curly coils is sometimes maddening. So let me finish my regimen as of last night. I washed with the Co-Wash, then I put the Detangling Masque on (*ALL BE CURLY LINE) and let it sit while I showered (*next time I may heat it under a dryer for maximum penetration), and then I combed through it and was amazed and how the tangles were so few! I then used the Be CURLY Curl Enhancer, and twisted my hair in multiple sections. Untwisting it, as it dried overnight, I have soft, defined, and smooth hair. I'm about to cry because Finally found the method! So then, this morning, I said, what might happen if I use my go to favorite, the Brilliant Humectant so I did! The result was beautiful shiny waves that were absolutely soft and smooth! I'm so happy! I will not lie, I did try multiple shampoos and conditioners with my newly natural hair, and none of them did more than tangle my hair. This, however, this is the ticket! I will continue using it, and also will ask that Aveda will hopefully move to larger sizes in these products as I like to have what I need in large quantities! I live in France and ordered several hundred dollars back in December for my parents to bring from NY. I had never tried the products but after reading all the reviews praising them, I thought there would be no way they wouldn't work. Well I was wrong, I tried the Climate Control, Moisture Lock, Conditioner, Curl Quencher, Deep conditioner AND I could not get a brush through my hair with any of the products. I was really bummed as I was looking forward to finally have something that worked to tame my curls especially for the summer months. What made it worse is my experience with trying to return the product to Ouidad. The reason I ordered A LOT of product because I had confidence that it would work. Unfortunately my parents had to cancel their January trip due to last minute Covid travel changes implemented by France. I wound up traveling to the states in February and that is when I finally had the opportunity to try the product. After writing to Ouidad about my predicament and asking if they can make an exception, due to the circumstances of my situation, for which I have proof and allow me to return the unused product.The manager Saouda gave me a hard no, she didn't even attempt to meet me half way. Policy and rules prevailed!!! Instead of looking at it as an individual case. Guess they don't see me as a future customer so why bother making exceptions. Anyway, its my own fault for trusting the reviews and not the product before ordering such a large amount. Moral of the story, particularly for overseas clients… try the product first to make sure it woks for your hair. I have super thin curly hair. I'm from MS and just moved to Denver CO. Going from humidity to dry weather really did a number on my curls. My hair was so dry frizzy not shiny and no bounce. Tried this product based on the other reviews. After the first use it seems to do a good job with hydration and curls. However the smell is so pungent of that of Dial soap left over from the 80s it's hard to handle the stench it perpetually puts out during and after use. I had hoped that maybe the bottle I'd received from this website was maybe just bad. I tried calling customer service everyday for the past week only to be told the wait time would be 5 minutes and then told no one was available and to leave a message. I never received a call back. I emailed and received a notification that my email has been received however upon following up four days later still have yet to hear from anyone. I can't imagine this is how this product is supposed to smell as its odor is completely different from all the other products within this company's line. However without customer service getting back to me I will never know any different.

I was mostly happy with this product; it makes my hair feel really nice and seems to have helped mitigate any heat damage from diffusing on low. However, I find it weighs my hair down a touch. There are ways around that but for me it involves using more product which I'd prefer to avoid. Despite it saying it has a gentle hold, I didn't see or feel any. That's fine with me, I have the styling foam from this line to do that, but it's kind of baffling how they have it on the bottle, lol. All in all this stuff is nice but if you have fine hair you may want to try another product.Donnie
This has been a lifesaver for me. My hair is on the thinner side so I have needed product that would leave my hair feeling lighter instead of heavy. The product is free of parabens and other sulfates that are responsible for holding hair down. It has a wonderful scent that isn't too overwhelming. It's light and not overbearing. This keeps my curls in check and pretty all day. Something they would NEVER do without product. Does not really control my frizz on the top of my head, but does so everywhere else. Probably because I stray away from using it too much up top to avoid it being too greasy. If your hair is very thick or unruly, this may not be the product for you.julianna.j
I gave this to my daughter who has beautiful, thick, really long hair. So much hair that her stylist has to use 2 perms when perming her hair. She hasn't had a perm since her son was born 8 years ago. Since her hair is so long, about 2/3rds of her hair is still curly. After I gave her this product to use, when she came over the next day, I immediately saw this amazing transformation. Her hair was shiny, frizz-free, and full of springy curls. My review is on the Daily cleanse line but since I couldn't find it, I'm placing my review on this one since they are fairly similar in my opinion. I love the Fairy Tales line of haircare in general. In my household, at any one given time, I've got a handful of their products in rotation. This particular line doesn't get as much hype as their others but should. The Daily cleanse shampoo is amazing. It is gentle, yet effective even on the oilest heads. I have three children under the age of 10 that all have different hair types and use this shampoo. My daughter (toddler) has wavy curly hair in the back that would turn into what we called a “rats nest” I’d wash her hair at night and by the middle of the next day her hair would look died out and was very knotted. I grabbed the curly q shampoo and conditioner and fell in love! I can go two days without washing her hair now. Her curls look hydrated and are super soft! My husband used it not knowing what it was and his natural curls were the best I’ve ever seen them until he went and straightened his hair lol. Love what this did for my hair! My coarse hair is always frizzy. This masque allowed me to let it air dry for a curly yet frizz free finish. After rinsing out the masque I used invisible oil primer, another brand of curl cream, and BB curl gel oil. Results ~ All my curls with none of the standard frizz! I have short 2C-3A, fine, low porosity and density hair. It’s important for my hair to use extremely lightweight products. With that said, I do not use gels in my hair at all. My hair creates a cast with almost all products even if I use a dime size amount. (Short hair, so it gets weighed down easily and casted easily) So when I saw this product I thought I’d give it a chance. The curl creme isn’t the most liquidity (like I prefer), it’s actually a bit thicker but not too thick. So I tried it, about a penny size amount after applying my own choice of leave in conditioner and let it air dry and then used the diffuser to eliminate the caste. I. Was. In. Shock. The definition, softness, frizz control that it gave me. With short hair, it’s very hard to get individualized curl definition and frizz free results. I cannot say how my hair will be day 3, 4 hair, but at least for day 1-2 it’s great results. Super happy.
