Best Shaver For Black Skin (2024 Update)

I bought this model online during the Black Friday sales in November 2021. It was to replace my older model Series 7 which has been a fantastic shaver. Please be aware that the newer generation Series 7 like this one uses a separate precision trimmer head that is not built into the shaver. The precision trimmer is not included in this particular retail kit. And you cannot buy it separately in Australia unless you opt to purchase an entire beard trimming and manscaping kit. I don't have a beard. And I'm not into manscaping. So this shaver is incredibly useless in its current state. Normally I would not have made this error of judgement because I would have purchased in-store after inspecting it. But in-store purchase wasn't possible during COVID-19 lockdown. Shaver Shop referred me to Braun, who referred me to their spare parts distributor who was actually very helpful, but it seems I've bought a dud. I can't rate the product because I've frankly only used it once.Philby

I'll start by saying a lot of the reviews I've seen here have been discussing the fact that instructions aren't included and comments about the fact there is no heater/dryer in the base. First off there is literally only 1 button on the shaver and 1 button on the base (outside of the base ejection button for swapping the cleaning juice). If you struggle with this shaver then there are likely bigger problems in your life. This is very simple shaver that seriously needs no instructions. As for the base always launching the cleaning cycle when you only want to charge the shaver… the shaver battery lasts over an hour. My shaves take approximately 5 minutes. That means I could shave, without the need for charging, or cleaning the shaver 12 times. If after 12 shaves you still don't want to clean the shaver then I don't know what to tell you other than you might want to consider evaluating your hygiene habits. Also, the cleaning solution/juice if not used will evaporate, so you might as well use it. I run the cycle after about 3-4 shaves and the next day it's dry and ready to go. Now for the real review… I previously owned a 5 series Braun many years back and more recently owned a 9 series Braun about 3 years ago. I also have owned/tried Remington, Philips, Manscape, and Wahl shavers in the last 3 years so I have a lot of experience and by far this is better than every shaver I have tried, including the 9 series and I'll explain why. First off, my 9 series broke about 3 years ago only 4 months after purchasing it. The trimmer failed to run; the rest of the shaver still functioned. Anyway, I dealt with the customer service and found it lacking. I mailed the shaver off and after calls asking the status, they told me to be patient. 2 months later I moved, lost my USPS tracking receipt, and finally the Braun customer service acknowledged they didn't have the shaver and asking for shipping confirmation. I no longer had the receipt so I couldn't prove I mailed it. $300 down the drain. So, for the next few years I avoided Braun products. I tried many others and finally gave up and settled with disposable shavers. I seen this sale after all this time and decided to try this shaver/Braun again. The motor on this shaver is louder and more powerful than the 9 series I remember. The attachments are easy to swap and use. I found the lack of an in-built trimmer a little frustrating as it takes a bit of time to swap heads. A small sacrifice as the trimmer itself is leaps and bounds stronger than the 9 series in-built shaver and far easier and more precise to use. Now onto a more sensitive topic, trimming of more delicate parts of the body. My god, this shaver has blown me away and establishes its true value here. The included beard/stubble trimmer attachment, normally meant for beards, has been a godsend for that area and blows Manscape products out the water. Honestly Manscape products are far overrated, and I found before this shaver, a Wahl cordless shaver with the correct guide to be much better. The Stubble and Beard trimmer was better than every product I've ever tried, and I can easily say with confidence that there is absolutely nothing better. This was the first shave I ever had that didn't tear me to shreds and cause excessive bleeding there. The shave is also faster as the newfound confidence allows me to shave without worry of nicks. While I will say it did nick once, the nick was barely noticeable or felt and didn't bleed. A serious gamechanger. The included guides that were notches of 1, 2, or 3 were additions nice but a close trim is possible without worry with guide 1. Seriously, this attachment should be marketed completely differently as it's outstanding. I'm speaking again of the Beard and Stubble Trimmer with 2 notch 1 guides, not the Precision Trimmer attachment as I would be far too scared to use that attachment down there. Also, while the Beard and Stubble trimmer is attached you can still run the cleaning cycle when the shaver is inserted into the base! Honestly that was an amazing discovery as the ability of having that attachment cleaned by the base, especially after shaving in that area, was a huge win for hygiene. On to the real purpose of this shaver, your face… It does a great and thorough job but requires many passes. This shaver shines in giving this quality shave without pulling or nicks. It rivals disposable shaver shaves without the irritation. The requirement of some extra passes is worth it. The 9 series did provide a faster shave as it required fewer passes of the same area, but it did not provide a better shave. The difference being the 9 series is almost 2 – 2.5x as expensive and has a far worse trimmer, no beard and stubble trimmer which again shines where you would least expect it to and had suspect reliability. I have given this product 4 stars as the customer service, if you ever need it, is lacking and I’ll likely always have a chip on my shoulder towards Braun for simply makingAlan

I recently bought this machine and this is the first machine I've had with an associated charging/cleaning station. I have previously used Braun shavers for years, but these were not cleaned in this way. Then I wonder about this: The machine was delivered with 1 pc. Braun Clean & Renew, and according to the manual, the machine must be cleaned after each use. Then the contents of the cleaning station will last for approx. 30 days. If I don't clean every day the contents will evaporate within 8 weeks. This kind of fabric is very expensive to buy new, and I wonder if this type of cleaning is necessary. Online, it is also possible to buy a type of powder which, however, must be mixed with some type of ethanol. Then the price will be a fraction of the price for new containers. However, I have managed without such cleaning since I started with Braun shavers 50 years ago. However, according to the manual, I do not need to clean the machine in this way, but only rinse it clean under running water. What do I risk by maintaining the machine without using the cleaning station. Will it then have a limited lifespan? Will the machine have a longer life if I use a cleaning spray and shower my head after each cleaning under water?Ivar

Another great rotary in Philips' lineup. This series does solve the issue of many complaints regarding the detachable trimmer and heads of other Philips shavers – it has the traditional flip-top head and pop-up trimmer. This adds to the bulk of the shaver, body and head, but precludes having to keep track of a separate trimmer and remove the head for cleaning, and it works reasonably well, although for me the trimmer isn't quite as effective as the SmartClick attachments for the Series 9000 shavers. The ComfortGlide Rings really are effective, and provide a frictionless shave, although in this model they are slightly larger than the Anti-Friction rings of the S7940 for example, and require some maneuvering to get around tight areas. The Quick Clean pods use the same cleaning solution as the SmartClean cartridges for the SmartClean stations, which is excellent for cleaning and lubricating the shaver. The Quick Clean Pod is unpowered however, and uses the shaver's power, reducing it by about 1 percent per cleaning, although on a positive note doesn't require cords or cables and is more compact – actually usable for travel. The GroomTribe app is the Achilles Heel of all these Bluetooth shavers, and in particular this model (S7782), because there's no information regarding this particular shaver – the app seems exclusively to recognize only the S7940 shaver. On the plus side, the S7782 will connect, and it does record the shaving time and the percentage of rotation (which improves shaving efficiency), although the motion sensor algorithm in the shaver appears not to recognize the correct rotational movement about half the time. The good news is you don't actually need the app, and this shaver has an LED screen that provides all the essential information about the shaver, including battery life, cleaning information and the previously mentioned inaccurate rotation statistics. The shaving heads (SH71/52) only have a single cutting ring, but actually are comfortable and provide a very close shave. Overall, an excellent rotary from Philips, that provides a close, comfortable shave, warts and all, with the potential to improve with software updates to the app. Recommended.S7782

The Norelco S7000 is a very great shaver and I do recommend this electric shaver to all men especially men with sensitive skin which I have and I’m 50 years old and I have been searching for a shaver electric or not and it will not make my neck red or razor bumps. The reason why I’m giving my purchase review is because it came with a defective battery it won’t hold a charge for that long as Norelco says that it should. So I contacted the manufacture and told them of this and they mailed me a replacement shaver of the same type and the replacement does hold a charge unlike the first one that I bought. And if you have sensitive scan on your neck and when you shave you get a red neck from a razor and bumps then you really need to buy either the S7000 or the S9000 cause I can shave dry and I get awesome results and no redness or bumps and you would want to get the electric Norelco shaver that you can clean it using a cleaning pod. I will never go back to razor’s ever again and when I have wore it out I will buy another one. I did buy the S9000 because it comes with double the blades but either electric shaver will give you a very smooth clean shave.Baylein

I grew up with and have used Norelco rotary shavers and body groom tools all my adult life. My old one, probably close to 20 years now, still works but there is no availability of replacement heads anymore and some wear finally. This is an excellent shaver and I am very happy I got it. I considered the 3000 and 5000 series, but 3000 seems to use lower end heads, and while the 5000 uses the same as this, the hard travel case is essential to me and purchased as a separate accessory brings the cost close enough that it was worth it to just get the higher end kit. The shave is great; I haven't yet tried out the cleaning pod. The shaver cleans very well under running water following the instructions. I also have some extras from my previous Philips/Norelco products that I use with this, such as combs, cleaning brushes and a spare charger.Chris_P

Nothing worse than a company praying you don’t read the smaller text. I was unfortunate enough to buy in store to find out that the 100% waterproof is only for cleaning. Very annoying- but maybe passable if its use was good? Absolutely not. Took forever to get anything off my face which a normal razor could have done 3 times over in the time I tried to use this- and my face still isn’t properly shaven. This is my first experience with a Braun razor. I wear a beard, but still need to keep my neck & cheeks nice and neat. I shaved with a hand razor for years, it was fine. I was interested in a foil razor, but wasn't sure if I'd be able to keep my definition lines on my face without destroying them. However, a friend of mine who also sports a beard has used a Braun for years, no issues. For the price I paid for this razor, I thought I'd try. Not sure why this little razor isn't getting more love, maybe people just don't know how to shave. It works darn good. I can shave closer & faster than I can with a blade, no irritation, and it does not destroy my beard lines. I can't imagine how good your expensive models shave, this little guy works well. Only wish I could use with a cord, but that's not a deal breaker. Don't ignore this razor!mike6000

There was nothing at all to dislike about this product. I found it to be an amazing piece of machinery. You see I have Parkinson's disease. It eventually became impossible for me to use standard blade razor because I could not twist my wrist to the angles needed to save the contours of my face at the jawline on the sides of my face. This razor is lightweight definitely waterproof and easily glides over all the contours of my face with its pivoting blades. Or I also like to point out that it was easy for me to hold because of the texture of the outside casing of the razor itself you see I have no strength in my hands either. I promise that this razor gives just as close a shave as a standard triple Blade razor.Philip

This is a pretty simple rotary shaver. It's dry use only, but does have some perks. The battery life is outstanding, though it does take a while to fully charge. It also comes equipped with a precision tool. This is built in, and easy to open/ close. This tool works well for lining up beards, and sideburns. Now— The main shaver head is decent as far as power goes. It does not get a super close shave, but I've only experienced a super close shave with a straight razor. To use, I find that it has to be moved in slow circular motions, and repeated quite a few time before achieving the shave I want. However, it is a more basic model, with an affordable price tag, so this is expected. The performance is on par with the price. Cleaning the shaver is also very easy. There's a handy thumb button on the head. Simply push the button and lift the head. The shaver will open, and the hair can be tapped out. If you can't seem to get it all, I'd recommend using a soft brush. I have a badger hair brush for my straight razor, I just give the inside a quick swipe and all the hair falls out. This is by far one of the easiest shavers to clean! I received a free sample to test and review. I will continue to use this razor, and would recommend it to others.sandre81

REMINGTON PR1335 SHAVER: The GOOD: I bought this razor because the Norelco shaver (even with new heads) pulled at my son's face. (He is disabled and I shave him daily). This razor does a GREAT JOB at not pulling on his face and it shaves very clean. So that's good! THE BAD: It takes 16 hours for a full charge to give 40 minutes of shave time! And you don't find that out until you open the package and read the manual. There is no indication when it's fully charged either. So the Remington brand is highly recommended by me but NOT this particular model: PR 1335. For your info, the model PR 1340 takes 4 hours for a full charge and that provides a 50 minute shave time. The models 1360 and 1385 both take a full charge time of 90 minutes for a 60 minute shave time. The charge light never came on at all the 2nd time it was plugged in. (but as has been said before, it doesn't tell you when the shaver is charged anyway.) I am going to upgrade to one of the other models because 16 hours of charge time is just way too much and I need to know when it's fully charged.Foodie100

This razor is the only electric razor I am happy to say is better than traditional multiblade razors. Why, because i have used this razor now for 3 years, this very model, and if kept clean, it will result in a baby smooth consistent shave across the face, chin, jawline and neck. Used with electric shave face preshave and for the jaw line pulling the skin forwards with 3 fingers before the shaver results in deep shave results. The best thing, no cuts, no bleeding, just lovem smooth skin that the wife loves and deserves. A nice deep clean of the razor is needed about once a month with a dry tooth brush getting every surface inside and out. And that's all it takes to keep this wonderful work of engineering performing like brand new. It recommends new blades once a year, but I have not found the need. Just keep it cleaned and it keeps on going. I have tried cheaper Remington models, and the Norelcos, but they can't paerform like this baby does.FastFreddy

i liked the design and the concept of the trimmer… and I realized before i bought it that i would have to spend money before i found out if it was any good. But such is life, and it does look pretty nifty. Searching reviews wasn’t doing any good, nor were review videos off youtube. Every video and review online is sponsored by Philips, and they’ve cornered the market. Every “review” sounds like a infomertial. You just can’t get an honest opinion. So screw it- i just bought one with trepidation.

It’s been a year since then, and here’s my opinion for what it’s worth. The Philips OneBlade is JUNK! To begin with, i shave my face AND head and do so regularly. However, with three days growth, the blade wasn’t able to make it all the way through without being replaced- straight out the box.

The kicker? It has a 3 month shelf life before it won’t charge enough for a shave. That’s right, i’m on number four because they quit charging. All of them. Even now, i’m headed to court in a suit and tie, and half my face is shaved. the other half has a weeks growth from a holiday. I look like an idiot.

Try googling “OneBlade won’t Charge” and watch a new world open up before you. Thousands of people also have this issue, not to mention blade life when they cost a fortune.

Nothin beats an all in one face shaver when you don’t have to go back and forth between different styles of razor's. Philips Norelco OneBlade 360 Face has precise accuracy and gets a very close shave! I love how close it gets without having to use a straight razor. The blade and head of the shaver runs close to the skin to catch the smallest hairs and leaves it baby soft. I was surprised at how well it did with only one pass and hands down will use this one for every shave. Phillips designed this product with shaving in mind and in my several uses, I have yet to see the normal cuts you would get with a regular razor. My favorite part is how the blades line up my beard so easily without frustration. The slim design is easy to see around and fits in a travel bag perfectly. The battery is long lasting and charges very quick. This took over the #1 spot in my shave routine and has been going strong for me without an issue. Phillips nailed this one!!!AudiDad88

First time I used Oneblade I was amazed. Still today I use it almost always over other 3 types of razor I have. Razor(5 blade), trim razor rechargeable, and electric 3 head rechargeable are the three. They all work fine but the Oneblade does the job so much better. This is one of those products that you hope the manufacture doesn't ever discontinue. It is like nothing I have tried before, until you try you will not understand. I know I should tell you how smooth it is, how close it cuts, how it never cuts you, and it is amazing ability to get those curved areas of the face as easy as anything. If you purchase it and you do not like it I give, well it is not my product. But the faith in it is that strong you could put your promise on the product. Price around $29 is the another reason you can come up with to cause any more delay. I will stop acting silly, seriously a great product. This is from a proud owner of one since spring 2022.Joey

This is my second one blade so the fact that I ordered another one says it all! As someone with very sensitive, acne and in grown hair prone skin I was never able to shave using the traditional razor and shaving cream method. I have tried out many hand held razors from cheap to very expensive but none of them lasted more than a few months never mind an entire year. I saw the one blade at my local pharmacy and decided to try it as I’ve had decent success with norelco in the past. This was the shaver I’ve needed and wanted all my life! The flat head design ensures stability while shaving and also makes it incredibly easy to shape my beard, side burns etc. What I love the most about the one blade is that it shaves the skin pretty much as close as a regular razor without the “side effects” of a traditional razor. No longer do I suffer with acne, razor bumps or irritation after shaving. This new one blade greatly improves upon the first iteration in the design of the guides and charging stand. The first one had individual length guides that didn’t really stay on that well and no charging base. I love the design of this new model because the guide stays on even while trimming the jawline and the lcd screen shows how much charge is left. For how small this thing is it has always held a charge very well. I shave about every week-ish and a full charge lasts about a month depending on how much I shave. The disposable heads last a long time as well given I tidy-up the thicker hair of the torso and below the belt, using a separate blade of course. My first one blade has lasted me over 3 years and it would probably still work if I didn’t drop it so much. To sum up my review, if anyone has had the same issues as I have using a traditional razor than I implore you to give this a try! Your skin will thank you!JNYC

I have always struggled with shavers, I am fair haired and my beard grows slowly so I usually go clean shaven but recently I have tried some different lengths of beard. With this Oneblade Pro I can manage the length easily, the guard comes with an adjustable comb so you can set it between 0.5 and 10mm, the best bit about that is it adjusts so simply with a turn of the wheel, the numbers are nice and clear so it's easy to set where you want it and it also doesn't move while shaving so you get a good even shave. I have attached a couple of photos, when I heard I was getting this I let my beard grow out so it was pretty long and untamed, for the first try I basically took it all off with a combination of using the guard and then removing it for a smooth finish, you can see the difference and it was an effortless shave no fuss and a nice smooth face. Battery life wise it's great so far, charged up once, used every day for a week and it's still going strong, I am guessing it will need charging soon but I can't complain at all. It is comfortable in the hand and us really sinple to use, the rotating head makes shaving so easy and it follows the contours of your face very well. It.comes with an extra blade for body shaving which I haven't used yet but its good to have the option. It comes with a standard 2 pin shaving plug for the bathroom socket and the lead is long enough to not cause any issues. It's much better for me than having to use a beard trimmer if I want to have some decent stubble and have a separate razor for when I want to be clean shaved, this does both really well and I would recommend it to anyone.Mooseman34

I will start this review by saying that I've exclusively used electric razors basically since I discovered what they were after I started shaving. I've used many different types and qualities over the years to varying levels of success. Unfortunately, the Philips Norelco Oneblade Pro fails to live up to the hype. In concept, the idea is interesting and unique, but the execution leaves a lot to be desired. To start, the blade touts itself as being able to handle all lengths of hair, and I had gone almost 2 weeks without a shave (which is uncommon for me) so I figured what better way to test it. I tend to shave my neck clean and leave a bit of a 2-3 day shadow on my face so that's what I aimed for. While it accomplished this task, it was much more difficult and took much longer than my traditional method. I started with clean saving using the Oneblade without the guard on it, and it does well enough, although since it only cuts along the top and bottom edges, I found covering large flat areas to be a bit of an interesting experience. Since it doesn't cut directly under the flat middle part of the blade, you have to be sure there is room to move the blade up and down around it without cutting hair you don't want cut. The angle of the blade on the base does not lend itself to this experience. Trying to angle it without flipping it over is nearly impossible, and flipping it over means the teeth of the blade are directly against your skin. Fortunately the rounded edges do save you from any terrible mishaps, but it still does not lend itself to a very easy shaving experience. Once I finished the clean shaven portion of my neck, I attached the comb and set it to '3' (which I imagine is something akin to 3mm of my old Philips Norelco comb. It does manage to keep a consistent 3mm cut throughout, but it's like taking a weed-eater to a full yard of 5ft weeds. Yes, it CAN do it, but it does not do it well. As the blades cut the hair, it would just pile up and jam into the top of the comb until the comb and blades so full of hair they could no longer reach my face, and instead required me to remove the comb, tap out the hair and brush off the blades. The other strange thing about this design is that with the comb installed, only one of the two cutting edges is in use, which means if you only ever use it with the comb installed, or mostly use it with the comb installed, you will dull one side of the blade much sooner than the other. The blade cannot be flipped over to allow you a fresh cutting edge on the side that you use less. One thing I will mentioned about this, is that it is more comfortable than any travel razor I've ever used. So for travel, I would choose it over most other options if you're not willing to pack a bigger or bulkier razor. Bottom line, It will accomplish what it set out to do, but unfortunately it does not do any of those things well. It's comfortable, if a little strange to use and does not nick or cut the skin even if you have to use it at strange angles. But for the same tasks there are better options.Beradon

This is a great, Great Razor!!! It must be charged for the night or a few hours when you first get it though. You don't need to leave it plugged in though. Once it has been charged fully, you will have several days worth of power. It is very quiet, it gives a really close shave and it is really smooth on the face. In addition, it is very simple to clean. You can removed the guard and it reveals the blades of the razor. You just run some water over the blades and it removes the hair clippings.bj987keller

The Good: Great feel, grip, shave, ease of cleaning, quick charge time, trimmer is handy for sideburns to shape them up between haircuts. The Bad: I have now gone through two of these in about 2 years….the first lasted about 18 mos, the second, about 5. Problem? For whatever reason, after awhile, it will not charge. I also use shaving cream when I get out of the shower and use the razor, rinse it before, during and after use….and always and I mean always, after the period of time, you get up, plug it in, go in the shower, come out, dead. It won't charge. My guess? The Lithium Ion Batts. While ALL batteries have a lifespan, they should be much longer thant this. I rinse the head during shaving (shaving cream buildup and hair) 2-3 times while shaving paying attention to let the water drain down 90-95%….I don't think it's water intrusion….as deep as this thing goes is running it under the faucet head down? I used both the old and new charger….the new one shows all power lights on for about 2-3 seconds, goes dim, dead……there is something about these batteries that are not right….I am off to Walmart this mornign to get a 3rd in less than 3 years THIS time WITH the cheap warranty…..I have used Brauns for over 30 years and the batteries always seem to be the issue…do NOT pack them in luggage that will go in the cargo hold or you will find them dead, not chargeable when you get to your destination…this one is ONLY used at home. I take a cheap corded Braun on the road and it's about 20 years old now, still works but it's a dry shave…irritating…….I like the ability to use shaving cream for a much more comfortable shave but, this battery thing is aggravating…..over the 30 years I have gone through multiple 3, 5, 7 and 9 series razors…they ALL have battery failures eventually…so you end up buying a new one…..why? Because the other brands suck MORE. I have had Remington, Norelco (couldn't shave close with a gun to it's head), Chinese knockoffs even a small cordless from Harbor Freight that despite is size and slow speed delivered a great shave until it quit working…..it seems that if a rechargeable battery is run for 20 mins a day max, 6-7 days a week, it SHOULD last more than 6 months….never dropped, never abused, always left open on the counter after rinsing to let the head and razor dry after separated….still died….ridiculous…..I only hope the warranty is worth something when the next one croaks….no warning either….just dies…..still the best brand overall….Terry

I've never really liked wet dry shavers but this one changed my mind. it shaves flawless and leaves you face as smooth as using a traditional razor. i love that it's wireless and it charges very quickly and stays charged for a great amount of time. and cleaning is a breeze with the included brush and removable heads. you can also remove the head and run it under water for a deep clean. all around this is and excellent shaver.James

I have used Norelco for 45 years. I bought a new one for better blades, but soon found an odd problem… I can shave the left cheek, but when I rotate the unit over for the other side of my face, it slows to a stop. If I rotate it in mid air, it starts and stops over and over again, each time it leans to the right. Even if I take the heads off, it stops when it leans to the right. I think this one was just put together wrong. I've had this one for about 10 months. It worked ok for a month or two, but gradually began slowing and stopping even when fully charged. And the heads spin with the blades until they touch your skin. Also, this battery doesn't last as long as the razor I've been using for 20 years (and still using).Dew Master

I've been using these types of Philips Norelco shavers for many years. This recently purchased shaver is the third one in this series. These are the "low-end" Philips shavers, so I don't expect much other than about 2 to 3 years of use before the blades get dull. The first shaver I got was amazingly good in that it shaved smoothly and as close as a blade, with one or two passes. The second one was not as good, but did the job. This third 2500 model is, by comparison, not good. It takes several passes over the face to cut the stubble and it feels rough on the face. Given that it takes longer to do the job exposed another shortcoming: it has a smaller capacity battery than the older models. This is the first time that my shaver actually ran out of power starting from a full charge. It took about 20 minutes to deplete all the charge. Regression in product design is never a good thing. Next time I’ll be looking for a different brand.Maestro

This shaver has MUCH less power than my old Norelco shaver. It struggles to rotate the blades. The side trimmer is pretty much useless as it doesn't move the blades fast enough to cut. The location of the on/off button makes it easy to accidentally turn it on/off while shaving. It also bumps on easily in a suitcase if anything touches it. The good news is that you can use it while plugged in but then what's the use of a "cordless" shaver.ElCapitan

My husband feels the blades aren’t sharp enough for thicker hair even with the two different blades they offer. It does maintain your beard in between barber visits but overall he feels that he would switch brands after a little more research into these types of shavers. One big plus he says is the battery. He’s only had to charge it once since opening it and it’s been well over a month. I bought this model online during the Black Friday sales in November 2021. It was to replace my older model Series 7 which has been a fantastic shaver. Please be aware that the newer generation Series 7 like this one uses a separate precision trimmer head that is not built into the shaver. The precision trimmer is not included in this particular retail kit. And you cannot buy it separately in Australia unless you opt to purchase an entire beard trimming and manscaping kit. I don't have a beard. And I'm not into manscaping. So this shaver is incredibly useless in its current state. Normally I would not have made this error of judgement because I would have purchased in-store after inspecting it. But in-store purchase wasn't possible during COVID-19 lockdown. Shaver Shop referred me to Braun, who referred me to their spare parts distributor who was actually very helpful, but it seems I've bought a dud. I'll start by saying a lot of the reviews I've seen here have been discussing the fact that instructions aren't included and comments about the fact there is no heater/dryer in the base. First off there is literally only 1 button on the shaver and 1 button on the base (outside of the base ejection button for swapping the cleaning juice). If you struggle with this shaver then there are likely bigger problems in your life. This is very simple shaver that seriously needs no instructions. As for the base always launching the cleaning cycle when you only want to charge the shaver… the shaver battery lasts over an hour. My shaves take approximately 5 minutes. That means I could shave, without the need for charging, or cleaning the shaver 12 times. If after 12 shaves you still don't want to clean the shaver then I don't know what to tell you other than you might want to consider evaluating your hygiene habits. Also, the cleaning solution/juice if not used will evaporate, so you might as well use it. I run the cycle after about 3-4 shaves and the next day it's dry and ready to go. Now for the real review… I previously owned a 5 series Braun many years back and more recently owned a 9 series Braun about 3 years ago. I also have owned/tried Remington, Philips, Manscape, and Wahl shavers in the last 3 years so I have a lot of experience and by far this is better than every shaver I have tried, including the 9 series and I'll explain why. First off, my 9 series broke about 3 years ago only 4 months after purchasing it. The trimmer failed to run; the rest of the shaver still functioned. Anyway, I dealt with the customer service and found it lacking. I mailed the shaver off and after calls asking the status, they told me to be patient. 2 months later I moved, lost my USPS tracking receipt, and finally the Braun customer service acknowledged they didn't have the shaver and asking for shipping confirmation. I no longer had the receipt so I couldn't prove I mailed it. $300 down the drain. So, for the next few years I avoided Braun products. I tried many others and finally gave up and settled with disposable shavers. I seen this sale after all this time and decided to try this shaver/Braun again. The motor on this shaver is louder and more powerful than the 9 series I remember. The attachments are easy to swap and use. I found the lack of an in-built trimmer a little frustrating as it takes a bit of time to swap heads. A small sacrifice as the trimmer itself is leaps and bounds stronger than the 9 series in-built shaver and far easier and more precise to use. Now onto a more sensitive topic, trimming of more delicate parts of the body. My god, this shaver has blown me away and establishes its true value here. The included beard/stubble trimmer attachment, normally meant for beards, has been a godsend for that area and blows Manscape products out the water. Honestly Manscape products are far overrated, and I found before this shaver, a Wahl cordless shaver with the correct guide to be much better. The Stubble and Beard trimmer was better than every product I've ever tried, and I can easily say with confidence that there is absolutely nothing better. This was the first shave I ever had that didn't tear me to shreds and cause excessive bleeding there. The shave is also faster as the newfound confidence allows me to shave without worry of nicks. While I will say it did nick once, the nick was barely noticeable or felt and didn't bleed. A serious gamechanger. The included guides that were notches of 1, 2, or 3 were additions nice but a close trim is possible without worry with guide 1. Seriously, this attachment should be marketed completely differently as it's outstanding. I'm speaking again of the Beard and Stubble Trimmer with 2 notch 1 guides, not the Precision Trimmer attachment as I would be far too scared to use that attachment down there. Also, while the Beard and Stubble trimmer is attached you can still run the cleaning cycle when the shaver is inserted into the base! Honestly that was an amazing discovery as the ability of having that attachment cleaned by the base, especially after shaving in that area, was a huge win for hygiene. On to the real purpose of this shaver, your face… It does a great and thorough job but requires many passes. This shaver shines in giving this quality shave without pulling or nicks. It rivals disposable shaver shaves without the irritation. The requirement of some extra passes is worth it. The 9 series did provide a faster shave as it required fewer passes of the same area, but it did not provide a better shave. The difference being the 9 series is almost 2 – 2.5x as expensive and has a far worse trimmer, no beard and stubble trimmer which again shines where you would least expect it to and had suspect reliability. I have given this product 4 stars as the customer service, if you ever need it, is lacking and I’ll likely always have a chip on my shoulder towards Braun for simply makingAlan

I recently bought this machine and this is the first machine I've had with an associated charging/cleaning station. I have previously used Braun shavers for years, but these were not cleaned in this way. Then I wonder about this: The machine was delivered with 1 pc. Braun Clean & Renew, and according to the manual, the machine must be cleaned after each use. Then the contents of the cleaning station will last for approx. 30 days. If I don't clean every day the contents will evaporate within 8 weeks. This kind of fabric is very expensive to buy new, and I wonder if this type of cleaning is necessary. Online, it is also possible to buy a type of powder which, however, must be mixed with some type of ethanol. Then the price will be a fraction of the price for new containers. However, I have managed without such cleaning since I started with Braun shavers 50 years ago. However, according to the manual, I do not need to clean the machine in this way, but only rinse it clean under running water. What do I risk by maintaining the machine without using the cleaning station. Will it then have a limited lifespan? Will the machine have a longer life if I use a cleaning spray and shower my head after each cleaning under water?Ivar

When I received this razor, I was very excited to test it out and see how it compares to my other shavers that I have. I took the product out of the box and the box design was very appealing. The colors popped and it was eye capturing. There was little packaging inside of the box which was nice because one thing that I don't like is a box that has more packaging than what the product calls for. I removed the shaver from the box and my first impression was that it was a very sleek design and that it was very light weight. It honestly looked a little futuristic. I waited to shave a few days before I got this shaver because I wanted to have some scruffage to shave off. When I turned it shaver on, it was very quiet unlike some of my others that I have which made a very annoying buzzing noise. I uncapped the protective cover and moved the shaver to my face, It started eating the stubble like a champ. I was immediately disappointed once the stubble was gone, the shaver did not give a "close" shave to get that 5 o'clock shadow look like I can get with my other shavers. I literally had to go back over my neck with a regular razor to shave off what the shaver did not catch. I have always wondered about electric shavers and how much different they’d be from manual shaving. The answer is? Very. It is so much easier, faster, and cleaner than shaving with a manual razor. And once you’re done, it’s very simple to clean it off with some warm water and the cleaning brush included, then put the protective cover over the head. I like how gentle it is with my skin. Some other razors leave me with red marks, burns, and even cuts. Not fun. But I haven’t had any of those issues with this shaver so far. It glides effortlessly over the skin and leaves my face feeling super smooth afterwards. The shaver is very travel friendly. The shaver head cover that is included also goes over the power button to insure that it doesn’t accidentally turn on in your suitcase. And the charging cord it comes with isn’t huge so it will fit just about anywhere. The rubber grip is very nice. I never drop it even if it’s wet. It even looks cool too. You can also purchase some attatchments that are sold separately that will work with it. They allow you to get more precise with your shave. Down to thickness, precise lines, and more. I am typically a disposable razor user but occasionally utilize electric shavers. I first tried this shaver out on a three-day-old beard and I typically shave off most of my facial hair. I would compare the closeness of this electric shaver to that of a what a typical razor can achieve while not shaving against the grain. This shaver is water-proof and I was able to use it in the shower. It has comfortable rubbers grips on the side for easy handling. Normally, electric shavers do cause irritation on my face because I used them infrequently, but this shaver did not result in that irritation. It did seem to take many passes to remove all my beard, more so than I was used to with electric shavers. This shaver’s battery seems to last longer than some of the other ones I have tried and doesn’t take long to charge. I am usually able to get enough use out of it to complete a shave after only 5 or so minutes. This shaver was also very simple to clean and all that is required is to pop the head off the shaver and rinse it in water. This shaver has interchangeable head options for precision trimming, thought I would’ve preferred for it to have a flip-up precision trimmer built into the back. All-in-all I would recommend this shaver. I have been using it more frequently as it gets close enough to replace my razor, though I have to use it everyday whereas with a regular razor I’m able to use every other day when I shave against the grain.mendez009

This is a great, Great Razor!!! It must be charged for the night or a few hours when you first get it though. You don't need to leave it plugged in though. Once it has been charged fully, you will have several days worth of power. It is very quiet, it gives a really close shave and it is really smooth on the face. In addition, it is very simple to clean. You can removed the guard and it reveals the blades of the razor. You just run some water over the blades and it removes the hair clippings.bj987keller

The Good: Great feel, grip, shave, ease of cleaning, quick charge time, trimmer is handy for sideburns to shape them up between haircuts. The Bad: I have now gone through two of these in about 2 years….the first lasted about 18 mos, the second, about 5. Problem? For whatever reason, after awhile, it will not charge. I also use shaving cream when I get out of the shower and use the razor, rinse it before, during and after use….and always and I mean always, after the period of time, you get up, plug it in, go in the shower, come out, dead. It won't charge. My guess? The Lithium Ion Batts. While ALL batteries have a lifespan, they should be much longer thant this. I rinse the head during shaving (shaving cream buildup and hair) 2-3 times while shaving paying attention to let the water drain down 90-95%….I don't think it's water intrusion….as deep as this thing goes is running it under the faucet head down? I used both the old and new charger….the new one shows all power lights on for about 2-3 seconds, goes dim, dead……there is something about these batteries that are not right….I am off to Walmart this mornign to get a 3rd in less than 3 years THIS time WITH the cheap warranty…..I have used Brauns for over 30 years and the batteries always seem to be the issue…do NOT pack them in luggage that will go in the cargo hold or you will find them dead, not chargeable when you get to your destination…this one is ONLY used at home. I take a cheap corded Braun on the road and it's about 20 years old now, still works but it's a dry shave…irritating…….I like the ability to use shaving cream for a much more comfortable shave but, this battery thing is aggravating…..over the 30 years I have gone through multiple 3, 5, 7 and 9 series razors…they ALL have battery failures eventually…so you end up buying a new one…..why? Because the other brands suck MORE. I have had Remington, Norelco (couldn't shave close with a gun to it's head), Chinese knockoffs even a small cordless from Harbor Freight that despite is size and slow speed delivered a great shave until it quit working…..it seems that if a rechargeable battery is run for 20 mins a day max, 6-7 days a week, it SHOULD last more than 6 months….never dropped, never abused, always left open on the counter after rinsing to let the head and razor dry after separated….still died….ridiculous…..I only hope the warranty is worth something when the next one croaks….no warning either….just dies…..still the best brand overall….Terry

This is my third Braun shaver of this type. I have been using this single foil razor for about nine or ten years. Its inexpensive and shaves my face well. I prefer it to other Braun and Remington razors, all of which cost more and have mutiple shaving heads and cutters. I have to purchase a new one every few years as parts wear out. My first unit had the foil finally breakdown, or tear. A foil and cutter costs almost as much as the new razor. So, I bought a new one. That second unit had the side trimmer weae out, it would not trim sideburns and so forth. So I bought this new one now. Works great! Hello, I bought this shave for my elderly father. It was on clearance with a favorable price. It is ergonomically designed and has a lengthy run time per charge. It's a single cutting head and shaves close, but takes forever to complete a shave. Multiple passes required with many missed hairs. The large single cutting head does work well on facial curves. The trimmer is worthless. The blades protrude straight out vs. a 90 degree cut on most others. This is more a nose hair/ear trimmer than a mustache style trimmer. I've owned a Phillips 3D 1250X electric shaver for over two years. Phillips stopped making and stopped supporting them. So I decided to look around. Before using electric shavers. I started out with double edge razors, then the molded throw away's which became way too expensive and just didn't last for the price. I'm 61 years old, I've been shaving awhile. Most of my life I hated electrics. But almost three years ago tried the Phillips and it did a good job, but still left tiny stumble that I could feel but I looked shaved. I bought this Braun and tried it 4 hours after shaving with the Phillips. The shave with the Braun was darn near blade cut close! It found stubble the the Phillips missed and the was virtually zero stubble no matter which way I pulled my fingers around my face! With just a light touch the Braun does a fantastic job and I wholeheartedly recommended this shaver! I cannot speak to longevity. They recommend a new blade every 18 months which I feel is reasonable. When I was introduced to shaving, I tried my Dad's Sunbeam, Remington foil and a DE analog. I ended up doing the DE and got tired of nicks and cuts and skin irritation. in 1972, I started an almost 50 year relationship with Norelco "rotary" products. I went as high as $200+ in that line and it seems they have plateaued as far as technology advances are concerned. I was fed up with the poor quality of replacement blades available today, so I began a search for a replacement shaver. After reading numerous reviews, mostly pro, I decided to give the Arc5 a shot. All I can say is if you find yourself in my spot, do not hesitate. Get this shaver with the cleaning/charging unit, STAT! PROS: The closest shave I've gotten, next to a razor, EVER. Did NOT irritate my skin (I have sensitive skin) Larger head > shorter shave time Flex head follows your facial contours (jaw line, neck, etc.) Beard "sensor" adjusts to your beard's current length. Trimmer does a good job. Shaver has a "built-in" cleaning function, which you can use if you're travelling, or in between "tank" cleanings. Head size and shaving method delivers a faster shave. The cleaning/charging base has a "Dry/charge" function. CONS: Price of replacement heads and cleaning solution concentrate. I got this in anticipation of my upcoming birthday (thank you, honey!) and read the manual. I HAD to check the unit out, so I put some pre-shave lotion on and charged the shaver. Some people complain about the size of the shaver. It really is comparable to the Norelco I was using, but the shape of the head is what speeds your shave along. (It covers more territory). Since there is usually a break-in time for new shaving methods, I expect my shaves to improve over the next week. I used primarily an up and down motion on my face, then I changed direction and orientation on my chin and neck. One complaint I avoided is on my upper lip I have a moustache, so I didn't have a problem with trying to get a close shave there. After finishing and evaluating the shave quality, I took the head off, and rinsed it and the shaver under the tap. Then, I wiped excess water off both and reassembled the unit and dropped it into the cleaning/charging base and put it on dry. I read a lot of reviews before purchasing this razor. after a month using every other day I havent experienced any of the negatives I read about. I use it on my head and neck below my beard. I found if I use it every other day or 3rd day on my head it shaves easy and as smooth as a razor. Like all electric razors it does not do well with long hair. the only draw back i have is the razor head is large. Which helps speed up the process doing my whole head but little difficult around the top of my ear to sideburn section. I still think its best razor I have ever used in 20 years though. The charging/cleaning station is so nice. Yea it can be a little loud on the cleaning portion but its the razor turning on and off so what's the difference when you use it? Travel case and option to still sharge it with just the cord is well thought out. Mean I dont have to lug the station with me when I go away for a week. I was very hesitant to try an electric razor, considering my beard is full and thick and grows quickly. I had been using a DE razor and wet shaving for the last few years. I bought this shaver about a month ago after my Braun shaver quit on me after two years. I've had Norelco's in the past as did my dad. There was a comment made by one person that he didn't like this shaver because he felt the motor wasn't fast enough. I found this to be true however the motor is quiet and there are three cutting head with a lot of blades. Thinking logically, if the motor was any faster, there's a good chance that the blades would miss some hairs. Of all the Norelco's I've had in the past, this one is the best. The main shaver head along with the 3 cutting heads give a very close shave and conforms to your face, jawline and Adam's apple where my old Braun didn't. I use Williams Electric Shave for lubrication and have yet to have any razor burn. For cleaning, pop open the shaver head and rinse with warm water. There are three indicator lights which tell you when the shaver is fully charged and when it'll need to be charged up again. For $60.00, this shaver at least for me is worth every penny.Dakasis

The shaver does a good job, I have had bad experiences with electric shavers in the past where the blades have pulled on my facial hair and it hurts that even before I would shave I would use the back razer to shorten my facial hair so I could shave my face or I would just use the back razer to shave completely. with this electric shaver, I can get a good shave without the blades pulling on my facial hair. there is a lot of confusion on what I can use with the shaver, like Lectric Shave or can I use shaving cream, the user manual doesn't give enough instructions. it's great that it comes with a case for the shaver and the charger, but the shaver is difficult to fully clean out like dumping out all the hairs that the shaver collects, also you are only recommended one accessory, and that accessory is no longer available and it's an important product because it's used to clean the head of the shaver.Hunter11

I found that my new shaver does a credible job. I enjoy the fact that it's waterproof and can be washed after use. However, it was supposed to show a warning light when the battery became low, and it didn't do that, and I was caught one morning not being able to shave because the battery needed recharging. I've been using a Norelco shaver for more than 20 years (Model #6843XL) even after the battery could no longer be charged by plugging it in until even plugging it in would no longer work. So being 94 years old, I assume that this will be my last shaver I'll have to buy if this one is as good as my last one.Maftir

I had one similar to this two years ago and loved it so I had to get another! It grabbed those stubbles in private areas that a regular razor can’t! This is an elegant, well-made electric shaver that looks good out of the box. For features, this is a wet/dry shaver, so it can be used at the sink or in the shower. There is a locking mechanism that allows the user to lock or release (pivot) the trimmer head. It has a separate pop-up trimmer on the back side and a single power button on the front side. It also has LEDs to show battery level. On the plus side, it has an ergonomic design that fits well in the hand moves nicely along the face and neck. It also holds a charge for long time (I haven't had to re-charge in weeks) and the LEDs are an appreciated feature to see the current battery level. The final shave is close to the skin and I'm very pleased that there is no uncomfortable razor burn, which tends to happen with new devices. On the other hand, as with most electric razors I've tried, this one does a decent job with short hairs, but struggles with, say, a week old beard. I've used similar devices that have a powerful trimmer attachment to take down the long hairs before finishing with the close shave. The pop-up trimmer on this shaver is a bit flimsy for that job. Additionally, both the shaver and trimmer operate at all times. I'd like to see a larger, more powerful trimmer with perhaps its own power. I'm disappointed that the foil has to be replaced every 18 months or so; and at TWENTY-FOUR DOLLARS for a replacement. BUT, my new foil has deteriorated in HALF this time (and I think sooner). My schick shaver lasted fifty-five YEARS –no kidding. And I never replaced the screen in all that time. True, it did start to deteriorate after about 50 years, so I covered that small end section with scotch tape and continued to use it –until it finally died –of "old age". I have a beard and mustache, so only shave about 3/4 ths of my neck. Some of my cheeks and between my mouth and lips, so I don't ask a great deal of a shaver. Also, probably less than average as far as beard toughness is concerned. Guess I'll have to go to another brand, hopefully with a more resilient foil.Bruce

This shaver is small and compact. It does come with a manual but I just plugged it in. Not reading I figured out hours later this was not a wireless shaver. Mistake on my end. So I went to the bathroom and slide the switch upwards to turn it on. Immediately the rotary heads start to move. I put this on my face and went in a circular motion. I had to go over hairs several time for it to cut. I also noticed this gets a little warm while using it. To turn it off just slide the switch downwards. It does come with a little cleaning brush. To clean this is super easy just pop the head off. I personally didnt care for this shaver. I didnt like how it struggled to cut the hair on my face. This is a great razor and so easy to use. It is extremely comfortable and gives a really close shave with no pulling or tugging of hair. It is easy to hold and glides very smoothly over entire face. This was my second experience using an electric shaver and I'm really impressed as my first time was an epic fail. First off, the R50 Rotary Shaver is easy to hold which is a plus to me. Being used to a standard blade razor I wasn't sure I'd get a close shave because I have thick facial hair. The R50 Series Rotary Shaver was easy to move over my face and the 3 rotating heads removed the hair faster and covered a larger area. The fact that it holds the beard hairs inside the shaver is a huge bonus. (No more cleaning the sink after I'm done!) It comes with a cord which I thought would be in the way but surprisingly, the cord was long enough so it wasn't a problem. I like that my skin didn't feel rough or irritated when I was done. Having a smooth, close shave like I'm used is great. No stubble or unshaven areas and it's quiet too. Definitely will be using this from now on and keeping the old blades in the closet!trlmrc

Another great rotary in Philips' lineup. This series does solve the issue of many complaints regarding the detachable trimmer and heads of other Philips shavers – it has the traditional flip-top head and pop-up trimmer. This adds to the bulk of the shaver, body and head, but precludes having to keep track of a separate trimmer and remove the head for cleaning, and it works reasonably well, although for me the trimmer isn't quite as effective as the SmartClick attachments for the Series 9000 shavers. The ComfortGlide Rings really are effective, and provide a frictionless shave, although in this model they are slightly larger than the Anti-Friction rings of the S7940 for example, and require some maneuvering to get around tight areas. The Quick Clean pods use the same cleaning solution as the SmartClean cartridges for the SmartClean stations, which is excellent for cleaning and lubricating the shaver. The Quick Clean Pod is unpowered however, and uses the shaver's power, reducing it by about 1 percent per cleaning, although on a positive note doesn't require cords or cables and is more compact – actually usable for travel. The GroomTribe app is the Achilles Heel of all these Bluetooth shavers, and in particular this model (S7782), because there's no information regarding this particular shaver – the app seems exclusively to recognize only the S7940 shaver. On the plus side, the S7782 will connect, and it does record the shaving time and the percentage of rotation (which improves shaving efficiency), although the motion sensor algorithm in the shaver appears not to recognize the correct rotational movement about half the time. The good news is you don't actually need the app, and this shaver has an LED screen that provides all the essential information about the shaver, including battery life, cleaning information and the previously mentioned inaccurate rotation statistics. The shaving heads (SH71/52) only have a single cutting ring, but actually are comfortable and provide a very close shave. Overall, an excellent rotary from Philips, that provides a close, comfortable shave, warts and all, with the potential to improve with software updates to the app. Recommended.S7782

I grew up with and have used Norelco rotary shavers and body groom tools all my adult life. My old one, probably close to 20 years now, still works but there is no availability of replacement heads anymore and some wear finally. This is an excellent shaver and I am very happy I got it. I considered the 3000 and 5000 series, but 3000 seems to use lower end heads, and while the 5000 uses the same as this, the hard travel case is essential to me and purchased as a separate accessory brings the cost close enough that it was worth it to just get the higher end kit. The shave is great; I haven't yet tried out the cleaning pod. The shaver cleans very well under running water following the instructions. I also have some extras from my previous Philips/Norelco products that I use with this, such as combs, cleaning brushes and a spare charger.Chris_P

I switched back to Norelco after a 3-year switch to Braun. Glad I returned to Norelco, unquestionably the shave was the closest I have ever had with an electric shaver. Also, I like that it is quiet and easy to clean manually if I don't use the cleaning pod. However, the new head design is a step backward in my opinion. Its large gaps and dead space between the edge of the head and the blades make for difficulty in smoothly sliding the shaver over my face and repeated pinching when shaving above my lip. I would gladly pay the same price for a 7000 with the old head design coupled with the new minimalist stand and self-powered cleaning pod, that would be a 5-star shaver! But Norelco is not offering that option. I use the Bluetooth feature but will discontinue eventually as after a certain period of time it becomes superfluous.Tomthewise

I feel the Norelco 3100 would be more than adequate for the average male. I've owned several Norelco rechargeable shavers over the past 30 years. I think I'll like the Norelco 3100 best of all. It shaves pretty close and is relatively quiet. It sounds like it runs at a higher RPM than older models. Part of the front face is coated with a rubber like material which makes the shaver easier to grip than older all-plastic models. The popup trimmer does an adequate job of trimming sideburns. While a full charge required 8 hours, the instructions state that a 3-minute quick-charge provides enough power for one cordless shave, which can be convenient if the battery has been exhausted. Instructions recommend using the shaver exclusively for 21 days, for the closest shave. The shaving head can be cleaned using tap water and then left to dry thoroughly before using it again. I usually employ a bit of canned air to help a shaving head free of debris, however the instruction manual states NOT to use compressed air, just tap water. Extra-thorough cleaning is required from time to time. Cutters are matched to their combs through everyday usage, thus clean the three heads individually in order to avoid mixing up the cutter-comb pairs. When fully charged, you can probably expect at least 7 shaves before recharging is necessary. You will probably want to replace the cutters in about one year.Denver27

I've had my 3100 for at least five years, maybe six. It wasn't my first Norelco rotary shaver as I got my first one over thirty years ago. This isn't the most expensive Norelco I have owned – in fact, it's the most inexpensive. In all honesty, I have to say it's my favorite. I've gotten somewhat closer shaves from my very pricey 1250X, but seeing as how Norelco has discontinued the superb original blades for that model, it now cuts no better than my 3100. Well, actually the 3100 is a lot better. There are plenty of positives for this shaver, and no real drawbacks. Top of the list (for me) is that the 3100 is not limited to cordless use only. If you somehow didn't notice the LED warning you to charge after your last use, and find yourself with a too low battery, just plug it in and keep shaving! This is a massive advantage if you are one who often find mornings to be a rush-rush affair … like me. The heads on this shaver are now better than what is being supplied for high-end Norelco shavers. I am not kidding, as I own a very expensive Norelco which stays at home (my 3100 is my "road machine," and travels with me – which is every other week). The replacement heads for my high-end Norelco pull nose hair and sideburns constantly. The shave is certainly no better than that of my 3100. I would argue that the 3100 is now better (although my expensive 1250X was a little better when new). Clean up is a breeze with this shaver. The head assembly hinges open, allowing you to run even scalding hot water on the heads without burning your hand in the process. This is another advantage over the newer head-on-a-stick type Norelco shavers. Again, I own one of those and the 3100 is definitely easier to maintain. Price has to be considered. One could purchase a lifetime supply of these 3100's for the price of one high-end Norelco. Do those shave better? Maybe a little … but is it really worth the extra expense? Not in my book. Long life is a factor. My 3100 is at least five years old, maybe six. Frankly, I can't remember. In any event, it's shown no sign of slowing down; no degradation of battery performance. I still get over ten days of shaving between charges. No complaint. My very expensive 1250X does no better. If I found that Norelco was discontinuing this shaver, I would immediately order two … which would probably last me for the rest of my life. Were mine to fail tomorrow, I would consider that I had more than got my money's worth from it and head out to get another. Further, when my expensive Norelco 1250X fails, I will replace it with this model and be happy to do so.Cull43

My new Model 3100 shaves closer and misses fewer spots than the 7810XL did, and therefore shaves a bit closer. That was surprising to me, because the 3100 uses the same HQ8 replacement head kit that the 7810XL did. It doesn't irritate my face noticeably. (Neither did my 7810XL.) It's larger and more comfortable to hold than the 7810XL was, and runs quietly and smoothly. The 3100 offers the same, convenient rinse-to-clean feature that the 7810XL did, and it also offers a 5-minute quick-charge that provides just enough runtime to finish off a shave. If you have an electrical outlet nearby, though, most users will probably find it more convenient to just plug the shaver in and run it from the cord. The one feature that the 7810XL had that the 3100 lacks is the ability to fully charge in just about an hour; the 3100 requires about 8 hours for a full charge. However, since I can run the shaver for as long as I need by plugging it in, this hasn't been a problem for me. I can't really compare the performance if my new Philips/Norelco 3100 to micro-screen models, because it's been years since I had a micro-screen shaver. My last one was a Remington model that was decidedly rougher on my skin than my last two shavers, although it did shaver closer than my old 7810XL.AmarP
