I have skin discoloration spots and body acne usually in the summer, I use this product to relieve/prevent my body acne (back and chest). You know those white spots usually on your upper arms shoulders you get in the summertime when your skin starts “peeling” off even though you didn’t burn?? This product also helps with that! This is great for all of that and even your face. I would have never thought to use this until someone told me to try it for the white shoulder spots I was getting. Now I use it all the time. I've tried pure African Black Soap on my face, and was really drying–I have normal/combination skin–and it gave me an odd breakout. I avoided it after that. But, I was doing some research on hard water, and some of the effects it can have on your skin, so decided to try this bar on my body (I would never use this on my face because there is fragrance in it and would probably still be drying). Anyway, this is great for the body! Hard water throws my skin ph off, so I tend to get odd skin reactions/spots–real African Black Soap contains sulfur from the ash–plantain or cacao (anything that calls itself African Black Soap should contain one of those), which can help with this type of reaction (without the sulfur scent!). I tested this by washing my hands, and it gave me really soft skin, but is still drying (I don't get it), but not as drying as the pure soap. I think Shea Moisture formulates this with moisturizers or humectants, and once I put moisturizer/lotion on, things were back to normal. It took me a long time to try this because their hair care never worked for me, but I'm glad I decided to try this on a whim. It will be in my shower ritual rotation. It is made with Raw Shea Butter handcrafted by women in Africa. This soap combines cocoa pod ash, coconut oil and shea butter and is to be used daily. It has no sulfates, parabens, phthalates, mineral oil or petrolatum and is not tested on animals. I used this soap everyday during my nightly shower and my first impression was how large and bulky the bar felt in my hand. I found myself trying to be careful not to drop it, but I got used to it. It would be easier if it was smaller and contoured to fit a person’s hand, with rounded edges instead of a rectangular shape. This soap lathers very well and has a pleasant scent. It left my skin squeaky clean. I saw an improvement in the appearance and texture of my skin and my widespread kp surface bumps (keratosis pilaris a.k.a. chicken skin) were lessened and my skin felt smoother, especially on the backs of my upper arms. There was some grey-coloured lather that got onto my shower wall tiles, but since I use a squeegee after every shower to eliminate water marks, I was able to easily remove the lather. I've have problematic skin my ENTIRE life. Oily, acne prone, clogged, and irritated. I've tried Clean and Clear, Neutrogena, PanOxyl, ProActive, and more. I decided to try this soap out since people were raving about it. I have medium dark skin and I blemish easily from acne and just about anything. I also have very sensitive skin from follicular dermatitis so I was hoping for the best in this soap. I usually use doves body wash, but when I used the African soap, it actually didn't aggravate my skin. I like that it's for face and body so I'm trying it out on my face as well. Overall, I have no problem with it. Just make sure to moisturize because soaps tend to dry out your skin. I noticed some significant decrease in the darkness of my blemish spots. I've tried pure African Black Soap on my face, and was really drying–I have normal/combination skin–and it gave me an odd breakout. I avoided it after that. I have been using this bar soap exclusively for as long as I can remember. So much so, that I buy a year's worth at a time. I wish they had noted that they changed the formulation. The new formula is not nearly as rich or smooth and has much cheaper feel. I am now looking for a new brand of bar soap. It's such a shame that they changed a classic formula for what I assume is a bid to make more money by replacing it with a cheaper quality soap that costs more money. This is my most essential bath and body item I own. I have been using LOccitanes shea butter soaps for many years now and will not use anything else. I use it in place of shaving creamfoam and find it leaves my skin so much softer. It gives a gorgeous thick lather that is ideal for shaving. I have used every scent of the Loccitane Shea butter soaps but the verbena is my favourite by far and always the one I return to. It is so fresh and clean and slightly fruity. I remember several years ago, I tried a sample of hand lotion in a L'Occitane boutique. I fell in love immediately with the scent and from that moment, I was sold. The soap, lotion and hand cream have been a mainstay in my home since then. It smelled fresh, wholesome , natural and completely unique. This scent is in my opinion, the trademark of the company, something that everyone associated the company with. The original soap was such a nice way to enjoy that scent every day, along with its amazing lather and gentle cleansing. The quality was unmatched It is so disappointing that the company has chosen to change this soap. The new soap is inferior in every way and the new scent is a deal breaker. It’s incredibly good for acne and oily skin. HOWEVER, if used incorrectly it CAN be drying to the skin. It’s best if used with colder water as it’s already fairly strong at stripping your skin from its natural oils. Also make sure you aren’t washing for too long otherwise that could also harm your skins natural moisture barrier. It’s best if you use it for about 30-60 seconds and you wash in circular motions as one would with any other cleanser for the face.
It’s awful at shaving so I’m not sure as to why they put that purpose in there. It serves well as all the other purposes: as hand soap, a body wash, and a facial cleanser. It also serves well as a good base for a DIY face mask if you don’t feel comfortable using yogurt or honey.
In conclusion: it’s a very good soap as far as acne is concerned HOWEVER it can be quite drying so if you have eczema, prosioas, or dry skin it’s best if you follow up with a coconut or Shea butter moisturizer. It’s awful at shaving so don’t use it for those purposes.TheTurnz
Love the smell, if you're looking for a lot of lathering that is not going to happen with this soap which i am fine with because I feel clean after using the soap, my skin is not left irritated or sensitive from using it and it didn't disturb my PH levels. I used it on my face (my face loves it), I shaved my legs with it as it says you can use it to shave (this is not a shaving cream or gel don't expect a soap to be that or you will be disappointed) won't do that again. Used it to wash my 4b/4c hair (my hair was not happy). My five star is simply for this soap as a soap and a soap alone, nothing more nothing lessShon

This is the only soap we've found in years of searching that my boyfriend can use without having an allergic skin reaction (i.e. sores all over). He is allergic to the coconut oil used in like 99% of soaps, but not to the palm kernel oil. He's also allergic to all the fillers and fragrances in most other soaps, but Alaffia keeps it simple in this line. He can use the unscented and the ones with botanical oils just fine! (Lavender, peppermint, etc). You guys have our business for life if this formula stays the same! Love!
