Best Vacuum For Frieze Carpet (2023 Update)

I had seen the good reviews about this vacuum and finally ordered it when we moved: our new house had a mix of thick carpet, linoleum, and wood floors and my old vacuum wasn't going to cut it.Best of all – it's really pretty quiet! It seriously feels like a toy since it's such a fun little hard worker. Yes, some things could be better. The cord wrap is a bit awkward. The hook that keeps the cord off the ground is too wide and the cord falls out. But those are minor pains compared to how awesome this vacuum is. One warning: the first time I tried to remove the canister to empty it I did manage to empty the canister all over the floor. Whoops! Good thing my awesome vacuum could clean it all up again!samiha.i

I have had this vacuum for 15 years, suction is great and never had to replace any filters. I just wash them out once every 2 -3 months, even wash out the canister, the only thing I have done to this vacuum is repeatedly cut hair off the rollers since everyone in my household has long hair except me. I finally am going to purchase new sponge and HEPA filters, the old filters are getting a little rough. This vacuum still works great and we still keep using. Totally worth the price. Plan on keeping this vacuum. I am getting ready to purchase the newer SharkNinja with Duo Cleaning to keep the hair from twisting around the brushes. love my Shark vacuumscsvette

I’ve used MANY vacuums in my life. I’ve used Eureka, Kirby, Bissell, Oreck, Hoover, and several others. This is by far the BEST vacuum. The attachments make sense and are very practical. The vacuum pulls lots of dirt out of the carpet that other vacuums cannot do. I vacuumed my carpet with a Bissell. Afterwards, I vacuumed again with my Shark, the Shark continued to pull lots of dust out of the carpet. I am amazed at the quality. Considering the quality, the price is good!kasi.s

Just bought this Shark "Purple" Navigator vac on the recommendation of a friend who has one. First let me say I have owned at least a dozen vacs in my life including models from Hoover, Oreck, Pnansonic, Electrolux and a couple of industrial strength shop vacs. This one blows them all out of the ring. I have hardwood floors with large area rugs, mostly wool or synthetic Oriental and Arts and Crafts patterns. Despite the fact that I have regularly vacuumed them with my previous (and clearly wimpy) vacs, when I used this Navigator today I was completely shocked at how much dirt, pet fur, human hair and lint it pulled out of them. After one pass in my master bedroom the large dust cup was packed solid and I had to empty it. Same thing when I did the other bedroom and the 4 downstairs rooms. I completely filled a box the size of a footstool with the clumps of nasty grey fluzz the Navigator pulled deep out of the carpets. And it even pulled up the nap so they look fluffier. It's amazing how clean they look, like I just shampooed them! I feel like I have all new rugs though several of these are over 20 years old. Seriously, buy this vac, it's an excellent value. Do read all the instructions, though, because you need to know how to release all the latches and adjust the suction. The maximum suction is so high you may have to turn it down a little or it will literally pull lighter rugs up into the roller. Easy to adjust, this twist a ring around the handle. Got this today, was a breeze to assemble and get going. Picks up a lot of dirt and hair quickly, I like the no tangle bush as we have a longer hair dog, and my wife and daughter both have long hair which used to have to be cut from the beater bar of our old vac on a regular basis. This one has 3 filters so good for allergies, and the dual brushes which did very well on carpet and hardwood, getting a lot of the dust on the wood floor the old one couldnt get.Only a few things to note, the bin is a bit small and had to be dumped a lot because of pet hair, 3 times on our main living room. It is not the lightest vacuum but about the same as our old one. I wish it came with a cleaning brush head separate order… and had room on board for all the attachments instead of just 2. The head is low profile and fits places our old one would not, and it turns very well. Will see how well it holds up as the Dyson 07 it is replacing lasted us for 20 years and did a good job consistently. Just didnt want to pay top dollar for a Dyson again.3 months later and the vacuum is still doing a great job. We have not had any problems with hair wrap on the brush bar with our golden retrievers fur. Still have to dump the bin a lot with pet fur. Still miss that there was no standard brush attachment, but came with basically two upholstery brushes one powered, one not. About to order the standard long bristle cleaning brush so I can clean the air return and vents, be nice if the sizes were standard so I could just use the old ones from other vacuums. Another quick update, trying to find accessories like the dusting brush has been difficult. Shark does not carry one on their website, even though the owners manual says they do, and cant or wont tell you the dimensions needed. If youre looking for great suction, easy to clean dust bin and lights…then get this. However, if you have a bad back or arthritis, you may want to pass on this vacuum. I vacuum every day and will definitely get a work out while using this. But….I love the way it cleans and Im thinking the weight, sturdiness of this vacuum may make it last longer? When using the extension wand, the brush rollers stop, I know thats important for some. I do not use the lift-away feature, so I cant comment on that. So, love the vacuum and would recommend if you dont mind it being on the heavy side.Lisa

The only way I can get it to do anything is to use remove the hose and the attachments. The actual suction when using it upright is terrible. It vibrates like a dolphining F1 race car, makes a hideous popping and hissing sound from the side, and worst of all, leaves fuzz, dirt , and giant hard balls of lint all over my floors rather than actually cleaning them. Using this vacuum is more work than simply using a broom and a hand held dirt Devil. Customer service was helpful in trying to fix the issues but the suggested solve didn't work. It does quality performing for pet hair to include the turbo extension tool for upholstery. DO READ ALL the instructions so you know how to properly use it. Don't assume! The tools are ill placed with the placement and storage of the electrical cord (always falling off). The telescope for the hose to attachments doesn't lock properly and always ALWAYS pushing back in. I don't have an issue with pet hair on the roller getting stuck, but I do with human hair and any amount of length to trash. The spot where the hose connects to the canister is constantly getting clogged because it is small and narrow, needs to be wider. Pay CLOSE attention when taking the filter out of the canister and putting it back; there is a reason it is meticulously marked. The alignment must be perfect or it won't go back together properly; this is the same for everything on the vacuum. Hard to push when vacuuming (hence one of the reasons I said to read instructions carefully)? You have to provide some air to release the amount of suction, so it moves easier with the little knob on the left; by the way, it moves also on its own.feltermail

Within 1 minute of its' first use this model #2475 Pet Hair Eraser Turbo had its' brush roll stop spinning before a small 10×10 foot area was complete. The belt assembly is centre mounted so debris from both sides of the brush roll collects towards its' centralized belt motor which sits open with nothing to protect it from debris. This results in it being the furthest thing from the "tangle free" unit it is advertised as. Removal of the head screws holding the bottom cover in place is quite easy so I was able to see what was causing the jam (see picture attached). The manufacturer claims the unit can accept hair length of 4-8 inches. The longest of the hairs in this pictures is 3 inches, so the job in question should have been well within the manufacturer's guidelines. Upon reassembling the base the unit promptly got jammed a second time. After once again removing the clog I decided to give it a different task, cleaning hardwood. This unit has a key feature for those with hardwood floors, its' brush can turn on/off, saving your hardwood from being scratched by the roller. Sadly there is very little suction (see video attached). I found without the brush roll spinning the machine picks up essentially nothing. The last major feature this unit is its' heavily marked "pet hair eraser" attachments. The Pet Turbo Eraser" is nothing more than the same "turbo brush" or "handi-mate" that has been commonplace on vacuum's since the 1950's. The "two in one" pet brush is a traditional fabric brush as is the crevice tool. There is nothing fundamentally different with these attachments than what is industry standard from most vacuum suppliers. Very powerful, light and maneuverable, the brush is driven by a separate motor, seams like a great design, but the brush allows hair to get right into the Barrings!!! I removed and cleaned the brush after 2nd use, found that some pet and human hair had gotten into the Barring, melted the barring cap and housing. the third use the brush stopped before i was done as it was bound up. I only used it for the upstairs of my house. I'll call support to try to get another brush, but how long will the last? after years of well designed brushes, WHAT Happened? were they lasting too long?DAVID

My little dog sheds an unbelievable amount of fur. I use this throughout my home. The best things about this product are: 1) strong motor; 2) it's lightweight; 3) the attachment hose is long enough that the vacuum doesn't collapse when in use; 3) disassembling the unit to clean is very easy, assembling is also very easy. I bought a well-advertised competitive pet vacuum during the pandemic shutdown. It caused me nothing but grief. I don't have the strong hands of a 20-year old any longer, so I dreaded having to clean the canister. There were times I broke into tears of frustration because I just didn't have the strength to move the parts in the same directions. (I put that product up on the neighborhood website "for sale" section, reducing my purchase price by 2/3. Still no takers.) I need a clean house. Vacuum worked in steaks so you have to run it over the same spot over and over to get the whole even just a small area. The pet hair attachment broke pretty quickly after purchase. The accordion tubing connecting the arm tore in multiple places, we had to tape it repeatedly to retain suction because it kept breaking in different places. We have two huskies and vacuum like 2-3 times a week so it’s not like we used it incessantly. The final straw was another broken spot in the tubing which then kept disconnecting from the handheld attachment. Overall, did not stand up to any normal wear and tear, not sustainable for the price. You will be amazed how much your previous vacuum has missed once you start using this wonder. We have two cats and three dogs-a golden retriever and border collie who are shed machines-and I seemed to be constantly chasing hair tumbleweeds. The first time I used the vacuum on my 9x7rug, I had to empty the canister twice. That would have been two bags with the last vacuum. Not only is our house now cleaner but our wallet a little fatter as we are not buying two boxes of bags a month. Plus the benefits for the upcoming spring allergy season. I owned a Dyson for around 12 years, but when it quit, Shark was highly recommended. I chose this model because it claimed to be good for pet owners, like many other models of the brand. I have to say that I've never been more disappointed in a vacuum. Here are some of the things I noticed: First off, it's awkward in regards to weight distribution. The thing tips over incredibly easy. Second, the cord is much shorter than what I was used to with the Dyson, meaning it had to be unplugged and moved around a lot. Third, it has to be emptied a lot. It just doesn't hold much, and is a mess to empty. Lastly, it's narrow head means it's going to take twice as long to cover the area you're working on. The worst part about this vacuum is that I just bought it in January (@ $179), and my carpet looks just awful. Almost right after vacuuming, you can't tell it was ever done, so the lack of cleaning over time has really aged my carpet that wasn't very old to begin with. I know this brand gets compared to Dyson all the time, with claims of equal or superior performance, but the people who say this couldn't possibly have actually owned a Dyson. They are not equal in any way, shape, or form. It's not even been a year and I'm already looking to replace it. I fear if I don't, I'll have to replace my carpet at a much larger cost.Burgster

I was blown away when I first got this vacuum in September 2018, in fact I think I wrote a review. It picks up pet hair more than the Dyson and Oreck I’ve owned. The furniture attachment is amazing at removing fur! However, 14 months later and I ended up here looking for Black Friday / Cyber Monday vacuum sales because mine is falling apart. That actually started fairly soon after purchasing, but it did such a great job I ignored it. I did call QVC in January I think, about the carpet attachment not working and was told to call Shark directly, whom I never was able to get ahold of due to wait times, time zone difference etc. So 4 months after buying a new 200 vacuum I was using my old Oreck on the few carpeted/rug areas of my house and just using the new Shark to de-fur the furniture and the wand attachment. And even that is not fun because it tips over every 2 seconds. It still picks up nicely but the plastic inside the canister is breaking, the hose is worn out and I’m tired of having to us two vacuums. So while the performance of this vacuum was good, it’s cheaply made exterior makes it not worth the trouble.EBL47

I regret buying this vacuum and paid over $200 at Menards in Lansing Michigan. If I could sell it I would! The cord at the base of the vacuum is in the wrong place. I am constantly tripping over it even if I try to secure it in the handle. Cleaning out the plastic bin is a mess I have to now put on gloves with a damp paper towel to clean it properly. I have long hair which when cleaning my hair is wrapped around the roller that I have to cut out and pull to remove it. The attachment/hose on the vacuum is to tight I have to hold the base and vacuum with the attachment in the other hand to prevent it from falling on the floor or hitting my legs. We have 2 cats (one black fur, one white fur. So no hiding their shedding). For the price this vacuum is awesome. It picks up dirt and pet hair well (both from shaggy and short carpet). I love the upholstery attachment. It does wonders getting all the cat hair stuck in the couch cushions out. When they say that hair won’t wrap around the brush, they are speaking the truth. On my previous vacuum I had to cut the hair out twice a week. For this one I haven’t had any hair wrap around the brush yet! If I had anything negative to say it would be that it’s a little heavier to push and handle and the plastic parts are not as good of a quality as the $400 shark I’ve had before. But that’s nitpicking and comparing it to something's more than twice the price. If you have owned really expensive vacuums before, yeah, it’s noticeable that this one isn’t a $400+ vacuum, but it vastly exceeded my expectations.Formercouchpotato

This vacuum is just ok at best. When I first used it, it worked fine. I had to get used to the settings for the different types of flooring in my house. It always left a burning plastic smell if I used it on my carpets, but I could never find a reason. I just figured the motor was overheating and would only use it in 10 minute increments. (Which is beyond inefficient. As a single mom, I don't have all day to wait for the vacuum to cool down). After a few uses, the stair attachment (a cheap plastic, horribly designed attachment at that) did not work despite my best attempts to fix it. Next, the brush on the crevice tool started falling off so it was useless. Finally, after vacuuming my bedroom one day, the vacuum began shaking violently when in use. After examining it, the brush roller was melted and not connecting to the vacuum properly. I guess that explains the burning smell. I can either replace the roller, or get a new vacuum. I am going to use the motor and parts to build the kids some gadgets, and I'm going to spend the extra few dollars for a Dyson.Sweet Jane

I pride myself on being a clean person and like to think I'm on top of things in my home but this vacuum should come with a warning, "Be Prepared to Be Grossed Out." I was not ready to witness what was living in my carpets!! After years of pushing around what I assumed was a good vacuum from a different brand I decided to upgrade and I regret not doing it sooner. I'll admit I wasn't too impressed when I unboxed this unit but once started I changed my mind. This vacuum is powerful and easy to handle. The suction power is STRONG and you'll feel it right away even when using the Turbo Eraser but I promise the proof is in the waste cup. #sweepstakes because I truly love this vacuum and need more Bissell products in my life.Debbie

I am a highly experienced electronic repair technician. I just rebuilt a Shark Rotator Professional lift-away vacuum. Of course users fail to replace or clean all three filters causing loss of suction. Cleaning these with warm water and dawn dish soap works best. The unit claims to have thermal monitoring protection on the brush roll base and its design is causing the complaints of failure to work on carpeting in consumer homes. There is no thermal sensor. It uses a D.C. motor to a circuit board where a series low ohm current drop resistor exists. When the motor is slowed , thwe motor draws more current which lowers the resistence in the moter resistor series circuit causing increased voltage drop on the resistor triggering the circuit and activating the motors disconnect relay turning off motor. Although it does much to protect the motor in case of armature freezing with current applied. It makes the consumer unhappy because they cant vacuum carpets as they expect to paying almost 400 dollars for this nice vacuum. The fast fix is simply taking a soldering iron and lifting on side of the feed back silicon diode and reassembling unit. Now you will find the brush roll attachment actually works and does an awesome cleaning job on any carpet. Be sure to use caution and not pick up things that will jam the brush roller and break the belt. If this happens please turn off vacuum unplug and remove obstruction from brush roller. Then plug back in and finish vacuuming. I hope this helps others, mine is now issue less and working awesome.MissTiffany2025

Okay, this vacuum cleaner is actually FUN to run! It’s lightweight and very flexible. The long wand makes getting corners, cracks and crevices a breeze. Only drawback is the base will tip over if you stretch the hose too far, so keep an eye on it as you use the wand. Cleaning stairs is easy with the “Lift Away” feature. The NV501 has strong suction and durability. Do your regular maintenance as other reviews have mentioned, and store it properly. It’s super easy to take apart when needed. I accidentally sucked up a microfiber cloth once, but was able to open the hose at the right spot and pull the cloth right out. We’ve had our NV501 for almost a decade and still no problems. Have purchased this particular model as gifts for friends and family. Highly recommended.DB

I’ve had this model for about 5 years and yes occasionally you’ll have to cut some hair off the powdered brush if you have long hair or girls around or just heavy traffic I guess but that takes literally 20 seconds. Grab a pair of scissors, cut the hair and pull it out. Any vacuum with a brush is going to eventually wrap up hair! The vacuum has one killer motor, it cleans like nothing I’ve ever seen. I’m continuously impressed by the vast amount of dander, dust, and allergens it grabs every single time! I love how the handle comes off to clean small areas such as my couch cushions, behind furniture, etc. (I have this model which cane with ALL the attachments so I may have paid a bit more but it was definitely worth it) the only other difference is the colors. Mine has dark blue where the red is shown. I absolutely love how I can detach the base when going up stairs as shown in the photo. I don’t use the tiny “car part cleaners” which also came with the bulk of attachments but I guess it’s there if I were to ever need it. My fav attachment is the smaller roller brush that literally eats every cat hair off my dining room chairs and wherever else I need it. Anyway I suppose I could go on but you get my drift. By the way of course after awhile the vacuum will accumulate dust around the base and hose (I’ve seen someone post photos here of their dirty vacuum lol) but it’s a vacuum! It’s going to get dirty! My last thought pertains to the newest model I believe, the NV1000 with the “self cleaning brush” or double brush very bulky looking one. Although I haven’t used it, I personally don’t think it is going to sell much in the end. I say that with regards to the current reviews and complaints along with the marketing aspect in mind. What I conclude is just logical: once again as long as there is a revolving brush or in this case 2 rolling brushes, in time there WILL BE a hair issue as long as there are women, girls, and pets around. I purchased this from QVC on april 25, 2021, When I got it, I was thrilled–it performed like a dream and I could not imagine having a better vaccum. One year later, the device that holds the unit upright broke; a couple weeks later, the ability to utilize the floor/carpet option failed, so I had only one speed. Today, the brush rolls stopped rotating. I contacted Shark, thinking I had a 3 year warranty, only to find out it is a LIMITED warranty and does not cover the base unit that is experiencing all the problems. I was told they could send me a replacement unit for $95, which is nearly half of the original cost of the unit when I purchased it new. I declined, and was then told that I could have the replacement base unit for half price, as part of the "Limited Warranty." Needless to say, I am disappointed that Shark does not fully disclose it warranty practices. It seems that every time I see one of its infomercials on TV, the President of the company is constantly raving about how Shark stands behind its products. I will have to do some deep thinking the next time I purchase a new vac, as I have felt somewhat betrayed by the organization and its warranty practices.bucksfan

I’ve always heard people talk so highly of Shark Vacuums. I was so excited when I bought this. I was gonna get it home and my floors would be so clean,I’d be one of those people that people would compliment on how clean it was. Now, I’m not one to write scathing reviews and I’m always the first one to say that that one person out of hundreds that gave something one star is probably being dramatic, but Today I have to be the one person, even if y’all are gonna think I’m dramatic. So here we go. Don’t waste your time. This is the worst vacuum I’ve ever seen in my life. And I’ve seen quite a few (my mom had a vacuuming problem as a kid. We would go through one a year because she would wear them out so quick). Anyways where do I begin. It advertises as a pet vacuum. Which was a selling point as I have several cats and dogs. But it only picks up a piece of cat litter if you’re straight on top of it on hardwood floors and forget about it on carpet. As far as hair, it will pick it up from the carpet but it doesn’t suck it up so it leaves chucks of pet hair behind it as if it was Hansel and Gretel going into a forest. If it does manage to pick up the hair, it gets stuck in the hose so any piece of dirt that get sucked up behind just keep packing into the hose. I feel like if it was a person I’d have to give it the Heimlich maneuver it was so clogged. So every time I used it it would get clogged and I would open up the part that’s designed to be the there if something got clogged (I didn’t realize I would have to use it so often) and when I opened it dirt would naturally spew out everywhere so I would clean it out, put it back together, and now I would have to clean up what just spewed out of the vacuum which would just turn into a vicious cycle. This has happened every single time I have used it in the last six months. I’ve finally gotten so frustrated with it that I took it into the basement and slammed it against the cement wall until it was in several pieces. And you know what? I bet know it will work just as good as beforeKristin

I've had a few vaccums over the years but felt it time to invest in a pricer model and am very happy I did. It has great suction. Attachments that work removing fur from my furniture. Use it as a regular vacuum, wand or hand vaccum, with a easy step release from the main attachment. Easy to empty and clean, with cleanable filters, and so far, the main attachment is as advertised and hasn't tangled up with hair. 2 small but surprising features I love are light on the main attachment, and the hinged cord hook. I thought the light was silly at first but I never knew how much I was missing while vacuuming on sunny days or with all the lights on, but the vaccum light really illuminates. While the cord hook rotates 180° to allow removing the cord bundle in one go, versus unwrapping it off of both hooks. I own a rabbit, and the only short coming I have experience is that the main attachment can have difficulties picking up bigger debris like, wood shavings and rabbit dropping. I attribute that to the debris not fitting under the brush than the vaccum not being able to suction it up. Regardless it still deserves 5stars as I love this vaccum and would buy it again.Kara

So i normally dont leave reviews like this but i am so sad and somewhat disgusted by my last two shark purchases. I will start off by saying when i first received my duoclean i was in love and recommended it to everyone.. no one was allowed to touch it but me. The light on the wand was my favorite. I couldnt say enough good things about it. After having it a little over a year it started losing connection on the wand. I would blow it out with an air compressor and it would usually help. I even upgraded to a zero-m base with a self cleaning brush roll which made this machine even more amazing. Pretty soon the connection problem became more consistent and aftet a little over 3 years the base part of the machine (which later i found out was the wand connection) stopped working completely.. i decided to get another vacuum and decided on the vertex. In less than a year i was having connection problems and the fins on my brushroll were pretty much gone. I was having to duct tape the wand to the base so it isnt loose. I called for help and tbey told me to replace the wand to fix the connection problem. When i asked about the base with all the fins gone on my brushroll he told me i would have to replace the entire base and couldnt just replace the brush. I remind you…i had had this vacuum less than a year. I may as well just buy a whole new vaccum! So i have opted for my duct tape method which has been inconvenient but works. I have now only had a year and half and may as well throw it in the garbage. And now have to spend money on yet another vacuum.. I am drawn to shark because i love that its lightweight and the lift away is awesome. But im not rich and cant afford to be buying a vaccum every year or 2. I wish shark would stand behind their products and cover major parts for at least a year or maybe find out why they are having connection issues. I am disgusted and embarrassed that i have recommended these products to so many people who have went out and bought them. I hope they dont have the same problems i have. I wrote this review in hopes that someone from shark would contact me and make things good. Only time will tell. But in the mean time i am in need of a working vacuum that is not a sharkJenny

Best vacuum ever. Dogs, dust, dirt, multi surfaces no problem! Living on a ranch there is dust, dirt, work boots and cow dogs. A mile down a dirt road, surrounded by orchards and cattle, there is a year round rotation of spraying, shaking trees, sweeping nuts, and cow work. I was using three different reputable vacuums to try to get my floors tolerable, including the shop vac I "borrowed" from the barn. I had given up on clean. I was actually starting to feel depressed, especially about the carpet, and thinking I was just going to have to replace it in three rooms. I hated to have people over for them to see it. One midnight infomercial and free shipping later and every person who has been over has commented on how clean the house is. The only change in routine is the Shark Vertex vacuum. One pass over the floor with the Shark Vertex and my hard wood floor felt clean, not just dog hair and dust up, but no grit and shiny with the microfiber. The carpet in the bedrooms has been transformed, I knew there was residual dust/dander left behind by the three vacuums I was using, but nothing prepared me for what the Vertex pulled out. All the hours and passes with multiple vacuums and the Vertex was like magic. Chinchilla tossing his bathing dust everywhere, the Vertex microfiber leaves the wood floor polished. The house feels cleaner, even the air seems like it has less residual dust. If you live on a ranch you know what I mean. Tools and attachments are all easy to use. Canister is easy to empty and put back on. I wasn't expecting it to drive itself, there is no effort to move it forward. My house will never be perfect, but I finally feel like my efforts to clean it work. I am no longer embarrassed to have my revolving ranch door open to everyone.Bonner

Purchased vacuum at the end of 2020. I have only owned this vacuum for a little over 2 years and will need to replace the floor unit a second time. This might be a yearly replacement. I have long hair and have two doodle dogs. So I vacuum probably 3 to 4 times a week. At first I really liked this vacuum. It cleaned hard floors and carpet well but around 8 months of use I started to smell a melting/burning plastic smell while using. Eventually the main roller stopped spinning. I wasn't sure why I would be having that issue since I cleaned the filters often (have extra so that I don't have to wait for filters to dry) and cleaned out both rollers after each use. Shark replaced that floor unit since it had been less than a year of owning it. After using the replacement floor unit for less than a year it is now having that melting/burning plastic smell. Not sure if there is a warranty on the replacement parts but I guess I will find out once this current floor unit stops spinning. Shark didn't ask for the old floor unit back so I decided to open it and see what the issue was. It turns out that hair was getting trapped around the bearing for the main roller. There is no way to clean this and is a poor design. The images attached show the main roller bearing gets hair trapped by it and will eventually melt the components around it until the roller doesn't spin. I wish I would of taken a picture before/after removing the bearing cover so that I could show that could show packed in that hair was.Alice90

Vacuum worked in steaks so you have to run it over the same spot over and over to get the whole even just a small area. The pet hair attachment broke pretty quickly after purchase. The accordion tubing connecting the arm tore in multiple places, we had to tape it repeatedly to retain suction because it kept breaking in different places. We have two huskies and vacuum like 2-3 times a week so it’s not like we used it incessantly. The final straw was another broken spot in the tubing which then kept disconnecting from the handheld attachment. Overall, did not stand up to any normal wear and tear, not sustainable for the price. You will be amazed how much your previous vacuum has missed once you start using this wonder. We have two cats and three dogs-a golden retriever and border collie who are shed machines-and I seemed to be constantly chasing hair tumbleweeds. The first time I used the vacuum on my 9x7rug, I had to empty the canister twice. That would have been two bags with the last vacuum. Not only is our house now cleaner but our wallet a little fatter as we are not buying two boxes of bags a month. Plus the benefits for the upcoming spring allergy season. Overall it's a great vacuum. If you are used to the cheap Bissell's, this thing will blow you away! The suction is fantastic on high ply carpets or hardwood floors. The canister is easy to dump and the filters are easy to clean and seem like good quality. Shark's lift-away system is super convenient when needing to get behind or under furniture. The only reason for a four star is because of the limited (or lack there of) attachments and the size. This is a hefty unit and if you're limited on space, I would look for something a little smaller.Devon

Love that this is a lightweight vacuum with a lot of suction. The dirt canister is easy to lift off and empty easily, that is a real plus for me. I vacuum daily because I have pets that seem to shed constantly. I was sweeping and running a robot vacuum but after seeing how much this vacuum was getting afterwards I realized I was wasting my time with those and now just run this vacuum instead. Being able to remove the main canister and vacuum hard to reach areas like stairs and ceiling fans has proven to be a real back saver. I love upright vacuums for my floors but because of the stairs and hard to reach areas like under the beds I wanted a canister now I have both in one vacuum. The vacuum is easy to assemble and learn to use, plus because it is so light, easy to carry up and down stairs. The vacuum is very quiet on hard floors, the carpet setting is louder during operation but not extremely loud. The best thing of all, lots of suction you would be surprised at what it picks up.PinkyT

Before I dispose of this vacuum I thought it was only right that I write a good review on it. Old blue was purchased right after we got married . It moved 4 times including a cross country move. He has sucked up a total of 10 years of shedding dog hair. For his final year he resided upstairs in my sons room where we abused him with legos, dried play doh and hamster bedding. This thing wouldn’t die! We had moved on from old blue about 2 years ago when he developed a split in his hose and at 8 years I bought a new one. Blue is a amazing vacuum and will not let you down. I never replaced a belt and rarely cleaned out the brushes. I consider my self a hard core tester ! So if this isn’t a reason to buy it .. idk what is. Rip Blue!Mom2boys4dogs

This vacuum is magical! I have a Husky mix and a Brittany. It’s shedding season right now, and my other vacuum was just making hair balls. I have a 2 bed 2 bath apartment. 1000 sq ft or so I believe. I had two canisters filled to the brim from just my living room, and 2 1/3 from the dogs room. And this was AFTER I used my other vacuum a couple hours before. The tool attachments work amazing as well! I also like that there is a suction meter on the vacuum. The only thing I’m not a huge fan of is how stiff the hose is. It doesn’t really extend much without pulling the vacuum over. Bonked myself in the head with the vacuum falling on me a few times from trying to clean the corners with the crevice tool.Sky

I chose this vacuum based upon my previous experience with another Bissell product. A few years ago we sold our house and moved into a motor home to travel the country with our German Shepard ( German Shedder). I gave up my Oreck XL 21for the house and bought a Bissell cordless upright for the motor home. With the " Shedder" , one must vac. daily. The little Bissell never failed to impress me, every use produced another dog in the canister. Once we settled into a home , I still used the cordless to chase dog hair but was looking for a unit with greater hair capacity. That's why I chose a Bissell above any other brand. It fits my need perfectly. I still use the cordless in its detachable hand held feature as a " bug sucker" here in the Midwest as all the crawling critters seek a winter home. If you have a furry pet or two, look at the Bissell line first, you won't be disappointed.Randy

Not sure yet how to rate this vacuum. I recently bought this model as a replacement for model nv681. I like the features of the Shark vacuum, but it didn't last the full 5 years. It began literally falling apart after about 4 and one half years. The brush roller is literally hanging on by a thread. I hope the new one holds up better and longer that my first one, and performs at least as well as the first model. Also the customer service for Shark needs much improvement. When I called to get some answers, I got a major run around. There is no one to talk to when trying to get answers about problems. I would recommend this vacuum with reservations.Rita

I am a vacuuming obsessed weirdo! I just love to vacuum for some reason. I love the before and after and love the feeling of having a nice clean floor. That being said I tried out all kinds of other vacuums while never really finding one that was great until I bought this vacuum. It's got everything I wanted in a vacuum! I should have known to stick with Shark because I have an old lift away professional that I've had for well over 10 years!. It's even still going strong after all the abuse I've put it through but it's just time for a new one. Only reason I tried switching brands is because the upright sharks are quite heavy and I now have stairs in my place that are hard to clean witha a heavy uptight.. After multiple failures with other popular brands I found this one that converts into a canister vac making it much lighter to use on stairs. I'm in love with this thing. It works so well and it's super powerful with all the bells and whistles that I could ask for. The LED lighting on the pull out wand is a huge plus! Lights up anything I'm trying to vacuum. I vacuumed my bedroom soon as I got it right after vacuuming with a popular Eureka that I had previously bought and it was amazing what this vacuum picked up that was left behind by the Eureka. We bought this 3 years ago and the hose split along the ridges. We use it less then the recommended cleaning regimen that carpet manufacturers recommend (daily). Shark claims it's not under the 7 year warranty because we sweep to much.

If your product can't hold up to reasonable use then it's worthless and I'm taking my business elsewhere.

I also find all the nooks and crannies this vacuum has hard to keep clean (canister, wand attachment for furniture top guard thing)

Replacement parts are unreasonably priced with the company's less then expected life expectancy.Patient Farmer

I love every Shark product I've owned or gifted to someone else so had high expectations for this stick vac. I have been searching for a good robot vacuum for quite a long time since I'm unable to manage heavy vacuuming any more but none of the independent review articles give high marks to a robot that fits my needs so I turned to light stick vacs for a solution. I love this product. It meets my high expectations for a Shark and with daily 10 minute use on high traffic areas I can keep up with shedding from my medium haired cat in the carpet. The cord is long enough to cover the area and at my age, a cord doesn't bother me at all. The unit and accessories are stored in a closet without an outlet so a cordless vac isn't practical for me. If I have any criticism it's the size of the canister. One does have to take into account the reason I made this purchase, a super lightweight vac to clean cat hair from my carpet, and it makes perfect sense. I simply attach a small trash bag to carry with me in case I need to empty the canister.Shelley

Easy to carry, lightweight. I really do love this vaccum. It has pulled up a lot of dirt and hair from the carpets my rainbow couldn't pick up. I mainly have hard wood floors throughout my house now, with 1 carpeted area and a couple rugs. It's been very handy and picks up a lot. Cons: It lost suction after a year because the tube in the main basehead had cracked with normal use. Customer service could only offer to sell me the main basehead for over 75% of what I paid for the vacuum. This particular part, the tube; is not listed on Shark's website as a "wearable part" nor available. So I wonder why it is not covered by the 5 year limited warrenty? This is the main complaint I have read about that has happend to many others who also purchased the Shark Rocket. I had to do some searching for a tube replacement and we finally found one, then replaced it ourselves. If you do buy this vaccum, I would reccomend paying for extra coverage from the store purchase at as the 5 year limited warrenty is usless for this particular part and issue.Asp84

My husband bought this Shark Rocket for me in hopes of replacing my Dyson Animal with something lighter for quick, daily vacuuming, but it’s not up to the task. First of all, though the Rocket isn’t as big or as heavy as my old vacuum, all of its weight is at the top; the dust bin and motor are connected to the hand-hold, which means my wrist and hand have to support the bulk of its weight. Because the weight isn’t distributed, the small brush is unwieldy – too light to easily control regardless of how much pressure I attempt to push it with. I’m not a weakling, lol, but my arm gets tired FAST. Secondly, there is no way to turn off the roller brush and use just suction on hard surfaces. I have to move really slowly in sweeping the hardwoods, or else the Shark spits crumbs and other debris out the back. Moving slowly = holding the heavy motor/dust bin/handle for longer = even more tired hand/wrist/shoulder. Speaking of the roller brush, it clogs with dog hair and stops rolling after ONE pass over the 5×7 area rug in our seating area; I have to turn off the vacuum and cut the hair from the brush at least four times just in sweeping the one rug (we have two dogs, but I sweep every day, so I’m not asking it to vacuum a week’s worth of hair at once). It’s VERY frustrating. More negatives about this Shark Rocket: 1. It doesn’t stand on its own. If I need to stop sweeping in the middle of the job for any reason, I have to lay the vacuum on the floor, or prop it up against a piece of furniture. I still haven’t figured out how to store it. 2. The cord is also attached to the handle, and gets in the way of dumping the dust bin. 3. The attachments are difficult to use because they attach to the motor/dust bin/handle piece either directly or via a 12” hose, meaning I have to continue to hold the heaviest part of the vacuum while trying to manipulate the tools. 4. Though the brush part of the vacuum is small enough to adequately sweep the carpeted steps, I have to either lift the whole thing up, turn it backwards, and dangle the brush in front of the risers, or fight with the inconvenient and unwieldy attachments to get those areas. I’d say it takes twice as long for me to sweep using this than it does the old, clunky Dyson – definitely not making my life easier. I actually hate this vacuum, and would have returned it after the first use had my husband not thrown out the box it came on. Two hundred bucks for this useless thing.OhioMichelle

I had the original IF200 model that the head unit started making a noise like a grinding. I called Shark and they replaced it under warranty with the new model IF80. I was excited as they replaced the whole unit and very quickly. After first use I was disappointed as it left a lot of my dogs hair on the carpet. I thought maybe I missed something in the instructions, so I re-read them, checked the unit in case I missed packing material. Did not miss anything. My housekeeper stated she didn't like the new vacuum because it wasn't cleaning the carpet. I went and grabbed the old units powered floor cleaner and went over the carpet again and that unit picked everything up like before so whatever they did with the powered floor unit is what is bad. Again great warranty bad vacuum.Bruce

I do not normally write reviews but am making an exception. I love this vacuum. It is very cleverly designed to bend to get under furniture, and also fold up for storage. It is not necessary to use a docking station to charge the unit, which I find helpful since I have no wall space for a docking station, and I can charge the battery and store the unit folded up under a counter. I find the unit to be quite light, compared to others I have looked at. Also, you don't need to hold a trigger to get it to go (a poor feature on the Dysons). It comes with 2 batteries so you can be using one and charging the other. One battery is enough to vacuum most of my house. It is easy to empty the dirt cup.. I find it has good suction, and the "carpets" function is particularly effective. All over I am very happy.Princess Nasturtium

I've had this vacuum for about a month now, and I love it. I currently reside in about a 700 square foot apartment with carpet in the bedroom and walk-in closet and hard surfaces everywhere else. I can do a full, slow, methodical vacuuming of the whole apartment 3 times on 1 battery (not using the ion mode). The different brush speeds work great for switching between hard floor and carpet. I find myself vacuuming at every chance I get just due to the convenience of this unit. The included accessories such as the crevice tool and detail kit make vacuuming anything a breeze. The flex makes vacuuming under coffee tables, chairs, and beds simple. The only minor complaint would be that the dust bin is small, and dust seems to stick to it to the point where you need to reach in and pull it out to empty. That minor concern doesn't really bother me, but it's worth noting. Overall, I would 100% recommend this vacuum.BRIANB

We have used Oreck vacuums for over 30 years. We love the lightness and the power. When they went out of business we tried other vacuums, Hoover and Miele and hated them. First off you need too know we have a 2-story home, about 30 years old, fully carpeted, with two indoor dogs (Corgis – who have two coats that they “blow” year round!)! We learned a long time ago that dust and dog hair was a real problem, and needed a vacuum that could keep up. Tried several expensive ones with all the “doo-dads” but they would break quickly, loose suction very quickly, couldn’t keep up with the pet hair… You get the picture. Our most recent purchase before the Oreck was one of those “ball” type vacuums that supposedly never loose suction – supposed to be a real “Animal”, and the cost reflected the hype. But it was so lousy at picking up pet hair I would have to “rake” the carpet with a little plastic rake first to get up most the pet hair. It would loose suction and the cannister would fill up so fast I had to empty it after every room. So I broke down and spent some money on a simple vacuum with no gimmicks, just “a vacuum”. The Oreck XL Commercial is the real “animal” in this zoo. It NEVER loses suction. Where none of the other vacuums I ever owned would do a good job of getting pet hair and that powder you spread to make the carpet smell good up in one pass, the Oreck gets all of it in ONE pass. The bag on this vacuum can be changed out in about 30 seconds (when you have too). I probably could vacuum this house twice and still not have to replace the bag as it’s really that big! And the cord is 40’ long! No more constantly hunting for a plug. I plug it in once and do an entire floor. It’s built very simple and tuff since it’s a commercial grade vacuum and very light weight. Oh, the handle is really nice and you can bend it completely level with the floor to vacuum under tables and such. I don’t ussually take the time to right a review since I figure they should make stuff right to begin with. But this vacuum deserves a good review.R.H.

It does a good job vacuuming i love how light weight it is and easy to move. It has good suction and cleans carpet messes well. I don't like the bags. I honestly hate bags. So when it comes time to emptying these i don't do it. So 1star off for those bags. Lolvictoria.h
