Best Wet Dry Shaver For Sensitive Skin (2025 Update)

I bought this model online during the Black Friday sales in November 2021. It was to replace my older model Series 7 which has been a fantastic shaver. Please be aware that the newer generation Series 7 like this one uses a separate precision trimmer head that is not built into the shaver. The precision trimmer is not included in this particular retail kit. And you cannot buy it separately in Australia unless you opt to purchase an entire beard trimming and manscaping kit. I don't have a beard. And I'm not into manscaping. So this shaver is incredibly useless in its current state. Normally I would not have made this error of judgement because I would have purchased in-store after inspecting it. But in-store purchase wasn't possible during COVID-19 lockdown. Shaver Shop referred me to Braun, who referred me to their spare parts distributor who was actually very helpful, but it seems I've bought a dud. I can't rate the product because I've frankly only used it once.Philby

I'll start by saying a lot of the reviews I've seen here have been discussing the fact that instructions aren't included and comments about the fact there is no heater/dryer in the base. First off there is literally only 1 button on the shaver and 1 button on the base (outside of the base ejection button for swapping the cleaning juice). If you struggle with this shaver then there are likely bigger problems in your life. This is very simple shaver that seriously needs no instructions. As for the base always launching the cleaning cycle when you only want to charge the shaver… the shaver battery lasts over an hour. My shaves take approximately 5 minutes. That means I could shave, without the need for charging, or cleaning the shaver 12 times. If after 12 shaves you still don't want to clean the shaver then I don't know what to tell you other than you might want to consider evaluating your hygiene habits. Also, the cleaning solution/juice if not used will evaporate, so you might as well use it. I run the cycle after about 3-4 shaves and the next day it's dry and ready to go. Now for the real review… I previously owned a 5 series Braun many years back and more recently owned a 9 series Braun about 3 years ago. I also have owned/tried Remington, Philips, Manscape, and Wahl shavers in the last 3 years so I have a lot of experience and by far this is better than every shaver I have tried, including the 9 series and I'll explain why. First off, my 9 series broke about 3 years ago only 4 months after purchasing it. The trimmer failed to run; the rest of the shaver still functioned. Anyway, I dealt with the customer service and found it lacking. I mailed the shaver off and after calls asking the status, they told me to be patient. 2 months later I moved, lost my USPS tracking receipt, and finally the Braun customer service acknowledged they didn't have the shaver and asking for shipping confirmation. I no longer had the receipt so I couldn't prove I mailed it. $300 down the drain. So, for the next few years I avoided Braun products. I tried many others and finally gave up and settled with disposable shavers. I seen this sale after all this time and decided to try this shaver/Braun again. The motor on this shaver is louder and more powerful than the 9 series I remember. The attachments are easy to swap and use. I found the lack of an in-built trimmer a little frustrating as it takes a bit of time to swap heads. A small sacrifice as the trimmer itself is leaps and bounds stronger than the 9 series in-built shaver and far easier and more precise to use. Now onto a more sensitive topic, trimming of more delicate parts of the body. My god, this shaver has blown me away and establishes its true value here. The included beard/stubble trimmer attachment, normally meant for beards, has been a godsend for that area and blows Manscape products out the water. Honestly Manscape products are far overrated, and I found before this shaver, a Wahl cordless shaver with the correct guide to be much better. The Stubble and Beard trimmer was better than every product I've ever tried, and I can easily say with confidence that there is absolutely nothing better. This was the first shave I ever had that didn't tear me to shreds and cause excessive bleeding there. The shave is also faster as the newfound confidence allows me to shave without worry of nicks. While I will say it did nick once, the nick was barely noticeable or felt and didn't bleed. A serious gamechanger. The included guides that were notches of 1, 2, or 3 were additions nice but a close trim is possible without worry with guide 1. Seriously, this attachment should be marketed completely differently as it's outstanding. I'm speaking again of the Beard and Stubble Trimmer with 2 notch 1 guides, not the Precision Trimmer attachment as I would be far too scared to use that attachment down there. Also, while the Beard and Stubble trimmer is attached you can still run the cleaning cycle when the shaver is inserted into the base! Honestly that was an amazing discovery as the ability of having that attachment cleaned by the base, especially after shaving in that area, was a huge win for hygiene. On to the real purpose of this shaver, your face… It does a great and thorough job but requires many passes. This shaver shines in giving this quality shave without pulling or nicks. It rivals disposable shaver shaves without the irritation. The requirement of some extra passes is worth it. The 9 series did provide a faster shave as it required fewer passes of the same area, but it did not provide a better shave. The difference being the 9 series is almost 2 – 2.5x as expensive and has a far worse trimmer, no beard and stubble trimmer which again shines where you would least expect it to and had suspect reliability. I have given this product 4 stars as the customer service, if you ever need it, is lacking and I’ll likely always have a chip on my shoulder towards Braun for simply makingAlan

I recently bought this machine and this is the first machine I've had with an associated charging/cleaning station. I have previously used Braun shavers for years, but these were not cleaned in this way. Then I wonder about this: The machine was delivered with 1 pc. Braun Clean & Renew, and according to the manual, the machine must be cleaned after each use. Then the contents of the cleaning station will last for approx. 30 days. If I don't clean every day the contents will evaporate within 8 weeks. This kind of fabric is very expensive to buy new, and I wonder if this type of cleaning is necessary. Online, it is also possible to buy a type of powder which, however, must be mixed with some type of ethanol. Then the price will be a fraction of the price for new containers. However, I have managed without such cleaning since I started with Braun shavers 50 years ago. However, according to the manual, I do not need to clean the machine in this way, but only rinse it clean under running water. What do I risk by maintaining the machine without using the cleaning station. Will it then have a limited lifespan? Will the machine have a longer life if I use a cleaning spray and shower my head after each cleaning under water?Ivar

I was pleasantly surprised how well this works, having given up on electric shavers decades ago. It shaves relatively close when I've used it dry, and conforms to the body shape. I haven't yet used it wet. It happens that the charger doesn't fit well in my bathroom – the outlet is under the medicine cabinet, and the razor has to angle out when the charger is plugged in, so this will work better where the razor can stand tall in the outlet.gorgesblonde

I thought this would be an upgrade from a cheaper electric trimmer I was using, but it kept pinching and hurt a lot. It left uneven patches, even on lighter areas despite going over the areas multiple times. Debris builds up underneath the popup trimmer too. It took longer than using a regular cheap razor due to the uneven patches, so this does not seem worth it.Sunshine

Didn't shave well and it bites. I was not impressed. I tried it on soft fine hair as well as more coarse hairs and it didn't remove either well. I ended up putting it to the side and using a traditional Billie razor. Super disappointed because I wanted to love it. Will be returning.Ccueto

Another great rotary in Philips' lineup. This series does solve the issue of many complaints regarding the detachable trimmer and heads of other Philips shavers – it has the traditional flip-top head and pop-up trimmer. This adds to the bulk of the shaver, body and head, but precludes having to keep track of a separate trimmer and remove the head for cleaning, and it works reasonably well, although for me the trimmer isn't quite as effective as the SmartClick attachments for the Series 9000 shavers. The ComfortGlide Rings really are effective, and provide a frictionless shave, although in this model they are slightly larger than the Anti-Friction rings of the S7940 for example, and require some maneuvering to get around tight areas. The Quick Clean pods use the same cleaning solution as the SmartClean cartridges for the SmartClean stations, which is excellent for cleaning and lubricating the shaver. The Quick Clean Pod is unpowered however, and uses the shaver's power, reducing it by about 1 percent per cleaning, although on a positive note doesn't require cords or cables and is more compact – actually usable for travel. The GroomTribe app is the Achilles Heel of all these Bluetooth shavers, and in particular this model (S7782), because there's no information regarding this particular shaver – the app seems exclusively to recognize only the S7940 shaver. On the plus side, the S7782 will connect, and it does record the shaving time and the percentage of rotation (which improves shaving efficiency), although the motion sensor algorithm in the shaver appears not to recognize the correct rotational movement about half the time. The good news is you don't actually need the app, and this shaver has an LED screen that provides all the essential information about the shaver, including battery life, cleaning information and the previously mentioned inaccurate rotation statistics. The shaving heads (SH71/52) only have a single cutting ring, but actually are comfortable and provide a very close shave. Overall, an excellent rotary from Philips, that provides a close, comfortable shave, warts and all, with the potential to improve with software updates to the app. Recommended.S7782

I grew up with and have used Norelco rotary shavers and body groom tools all my adult life. My old one, probably close to 20 years now, still works but there is no availability of replacement heads anymore and some wear finally. This is an excellent shaver and I am very happy I got it. I considered the 3000 and 5000 series, but 3000 seems to use lower end heads, and while the 5000 uses the same as this, the hard travel case is essential to me and purchased as a separate accessory brings the cost close enough that it was worth it to just get the higher end kit. The shave is great; I haven't yet tried out the cleaning pod. The shaver cleans very well under running water following the instructions. I also have some extras from my previous Philips/Norelco products that I use with this, such as combs, cleaning brushes and a spare charger.Chris_P

I switched back to Norelco after a 3-year switch to Braun. Glad I returned to Norelco, unquestionably the shave was the closest I have ever had with an electric shaver. Also, I like that it is quiet and easy to clean manually if I don't use the cleaning pod. However, the new head design is a step backward in my opinion. Its large gaps and dead space between the edge of the head and the blades make for difficulty in smoothly sliding the shaver over my face and repeated pinching when shaving above my lip. I would gladly pay the same price for a 7000 with the old head design coupled with the new minimalist stand and self-powered cleaning pod, that would be a 5-star shaver! But Norelco is not offering that option. I use the Bluetooth feature but will discontinue eventually as after a certain period of time it becomes superfluous.Tomthewise

Smoothest, closest, quickest, cleanest Norelco shave ever. Been using Norelco for many years. Amazing how much better this newer model is compared to its predecessors. For this reason alone. it must be top-rated at 5. However it lacks some features and I almost downgraded the rating to 4. (a) There is no hardwired charging option, (b) There is no safety snap-on head guard. (c) There is no stand for quick, convenient, handy daily storage. (d) Case for entire package is huge – I have some brief cases that are barely any larger. For short-term travel, a week or weekend, don't want to have to pack that huge case, don't usually need a charger. But a hardwired charging option that can be packed/stuffed in the corner or a regular dopp kit for emergency use would be great. A snap-on head guard is important to protect the otherwise exposed head from dings, scratches, & dents. Even when razor is laying flat on the charging pad, the head is facing up and things can be dropped onto the head and hurt it. Why has Philips stopped supplying that snap-on head guard? Why would anyone use the charging pad for daily storage – with the head facing up? The pad doesn't have an on-off switch. No need for it to charge every day. Why not have a stand for the razor so the space needed for daily storage is minimized? Space on bathroom shelf, or in luggage, is typically at a premium. Seems to me these small additional features would add significant utilitarian value to this product at minimal cost.Jay711

After conducting a somewhat extensive exercise of due diligence in picking my new electric razor, I started to lean very heavily towards the Philips s9000 prestige. I admit I did have some apprehension because of the top end price tag associated with this product, but it was immediately alleviated on possession. Now after two months of using this on everything from a 1 to 5 day growth, it has performed flawlessly. I can wholeheartedly say it's the best electric razor I've ever used. Geat battery life with a slick and convenient wireless QI charger, All accompanied with superb styling and great performance, delivering an exceptionally close shave that's not far off a wet shave, with very minimal effort. In the spirit of a full honest review I must say that the only negative I can honestly come up with is, with such a premium price tag that matches this beautiful piece of grooming technology is the weight, or lack of. When I first pressed the on button I knew I was in for a new experience in shaving. The torque of the motor inside this very solid body was amazing. The whole case twisted solid in my hand. I knew there was power to spare. As I glided the three articulating cutters over my beard I could hear and feel the power and the smoothness of every stroke. I'm 76 but, it felt like shaving a young 17 year old again. I kicked it up a notch to high speed to tackle the hair on the back of my neck, the barber missed, and to my surprise it mowed through that area like a champ, using the trimmer attachment that came with the purchase. This shaver is going to be with me for several years. Please just keep making the attachments and shave heads. This is not a toy, but a serious shave and grooming machine.TrickyMisfit

I bought this one seven months ago. Starting three weeks ago, each time I turn it on, it runs insanely loud for about 20 seconds, then it starts to quite down and run normally. Very consist problem since. There is some sort of power supply problem. I will return it soon.Jerry

Really well made. Everything is really nice. The only issue is that it takes double the amount of strokes to shave as a Braun shaver. However, you get significantly less skin irritation with this compared to Braun. This model is made in Japan which is nice. The protective cover is a bit odd shaped and hard to get on. The flip up cutter on the back seems a bit violent to get it opened. Feels like it might break easy if used often.RedPanda

I have used Braun electric shavers daily for the last 25 years and Remingtons before that. My Braun Series 7 sideburn trimmer broke this past week when I replaced the head so I was able to compare the two head to head. Braun 7 with a new foil head versus Series 9 Pro. The 9 Pro was a major improvement to the already fine Series 7 with a new head. I was amazed at the major difference of closeness of the shave and how efficient it was in requiring fewer passes to get a close shave. The shave with the Series 9 Pro was every bit as close as shaving with my Merzur safety razor. The new head design design on the Series 9 is clearly better plus there is a new feature that works really well. The head can be locked in a fixed position or used in in a pivoting position. The instructions recommend the fixed head position for your neck and cheeks. While the pivoting head works well under your nose and on your chin. The pop up sideburn trimmer has been relocated to the rear of the shaver which is a much better location than on the front of the shaver. The new charging case is wonderful for traveling on extended trips. I am amazed at the dramatic improvement of the Braun Series 9 Pro over my previous Braun Series 7. The shaver is a beautiful example of high quality German Design, German Engineering, and German manufacturing. Yes it is made in Germany which I much prefer over Chinese mediocre manufacturing. I bought the Series 9 Pro 9465 though I was skeptical. I have always used a Phillips Norelco triple headed rotary shaver because I believed that it was the only thing short of a blade that could give me a clean shave with all the crazy directions my beard grows. The quality of the blades on my Norelco shavers have degraded badly over the years and I find myself grinding the razor against my face for 10 minutes trying to get a reasonable shave and having razor burn afterward. I also don't shave every day anymore and every day past day 1 I go, the worse the shaving experience got. This shaver is amazing! If I shave every day it takes me about 90 second to get a MUCH closer shave than my old shaver, and I even 3 days to test it out and after 3 days the save was just as close and only required a little more effort. I never believed a foil shave could work for me but I'm convinced now. The skin on my face is much happier, and I am too. Pros: Really close shave with minimal effort Very quick to get to that close shave Nice design and fits well in my hand Impressive cleaning/charging station (yet to really test it out) Cons: Its not loud but the sound is high pitched compared to my old shaver and a little uncomfortable VERY pricey, I hope its wicked durable like my Norelcos which each lasted over a decade with just blade replacements Not sure I would spend the extra $100 on the base station if I had the chance to buy it againScoR

Quick assessment: Hefty feel that provides a very close shave, but does take longer to cut every hair with more noise and vibration than other electric shavers. Pros: Extremely high quality and hefty feel. The razor feels “premium” and I doubt it will break or have any quality issues for a long time. I love the attention that was put into the quality. This razor also shaves closer than any other electric razor I’ve tried before. If you are focused on the end result of super smooth skin post shaving, this is a great razor. The shaving head pivots to meet the contour of your face, and glides easily. I did not experience any roughness, scratchiness or other concerns – the razor heads glide smooth without irritation. Cons: Noise and vibration. As this design is a “side-to-side” trimmer, there is a lot more noise and vibration in the trimmer action than I am used to. It is not a defect, just something to be aware. It wasn’t a problem for me most weekends, but during the weekdays it did wake up my wife as I was getting ready for work. Also, while the razor is Li-Ion and can be used cordlessly most of the time, I found it unfortunate that razor does not work WHILE PLUGGED IN as well. I would be worried about forgetting to charge it and then being stuck unable to shave in the morning while waiting for enough charge to get going. Not a huge issue either, but also something to be aware of. Final con I noticed was just the time it takes to properly shave. I have always been leary of buying an electric razor. However, over the past few years the cost of razor blades has skyrocketed and the quality of shave has deteriorated just as fast. I was tired of paying for razors that gave you a lousy shave. I was in the military and I know what a close shave is supposed to feel like. I took the plunge and purchased this razor. This razor has worked really well. The quality and closeness of shave is equal to anything I could get from a disposable razor. It takes a couple of weeks for your face to get used to shaving with an electric razor. It has been almost a month since I purchased the razor and I no longer feel any irritation at all. It is very easy to clean and the charge lasts for weeks. I will not back to using high priced low quality razors. I have long used cartridge razors, but no more. I’ll preface this with I have sensitive skin and prone to ingrown hairs & razor bumps. I used this in both my face and legs, and it’s the smoothest, least irritated my skin has ever been. There are even some contours I could get smooth with a good cartridge razor that I was able to get with this. I used it ‘wet’ with a foaming shaving cream. I also exfoliated first. I have never been as disappointed with a product as I was with this one. After all the glowing reviews and even some ratings calling it the best electric shaver ever made I took the plunge and switched from my Norelco. I have used for two weeks and the shaves are abysmal. Even after going over the same area 3-4 times there is still stubble left. Shaving the neck is even worse. Going over every area of my neck from every conceivable angle and there is still substantial stubble left. The only good comment I can make is that it feels good in the hand. ReDisappointment

I was provided the opportunity to test the Philips SatinShave Prestige BRL170/50 premium electric shaving unit. This specific product came neatly packaged, and included the main razor/base, in addition to 4 accessories (a convenient travel cap, a bikini trimming tool/head, an efficiency cap, and a pearl trimmer with safety bar). The SatinShave also came with a small carrying case, and a charging cable. The system took approximately 60 minutes to charge fully, and also featured a 5-minute quick charge option for convenience (if you're in need of a single shave). I found that the unit held power throughout a lengthy shave (multiple areas) consistently. Lights indicating low battery life, full battery life and charging mode were displayed clearly on the main unit. I utilized Philips SatinShave on three areas of my body: my legs, my underarms and my bikini area. The unit itself was easy to hold, and its ergonomic handle shape felt natural, comfortable and light in the hand. This shaver boasts the capability to be utilized for shaving in both wet and dry conditions. I found the shaving conditions to make minimal difference in the units overall shaving performance. The Philips SatinShave removed hair most successfully from my bikini area. The efficiency cap helped to pull my skin taut, and the bikini trimmer accessory enabled me to get a close, smooth shave; even over my typically-sensitive skin. The performance of the Philips SatinShave unit was underwhelming in regard to underarm hair removal. I found it difficult to manipulate the unit under the arm successfully (due to shape of anatomy), in order to achieve/maintain close contact between the foil head and the hair/skin. The Philips SatinShave worked average for leg hair removal. Although the shaver glided over the leg smoothly, the unit did leave residual, coarse stubble, behind on the legs. I found the SatinShave to require more than one pass over areas of the leg (especially the knee) in order to achieve maximum smoothness. In general, I do not feel that the razor surpassed the smoothing effects of waxing or a traditional razor. I also did not feel the electric razor was a time-saver in comparison to a traditional shave. However, Philips SatinShave razor did work to remove hair well in the bikini area and on the legs with minimal irritation, despite having sensitive skin. The SatinShave is also a great on-the-go shaving tool for times when you may miss a spot shaving. It is a great shaver unit to travel with, and I was impressed with the shavers cordless capability, comfortable handle, trimming tools/accessories, actual power and battery-life. Overall, I am happy to have the Philips SatinShave Prestige BRL170/150 as a new tool in my hair removal arsenal.Hayleyc925

I have two complaints about this product – 1) the position of the on/off and speed buttons means I'm constantly turning the razor off when I'm trying to shave. They are placed where one would normally grip the razor. 2) the plastic head protector breaks easily. The grips that hold it in place aren't robust. Your customer service department were very quick in replacing the plastic cover under warranty. The actual razor itself delivers a good shave. This is my third razor purchased from Philips.PHFE

Seeing as I haven't used an electric razor in almost 30 years due to severe irritation after shaving, I was very pleasantly surprised, there was no irritation after shaving at all, with the added bonus of no chance of nicks and cuts. The cut is extremely good it doesn't pull the hairs out like the one I used so many years ago. Its such a good shave that I even use it to shave my head and not just my face instead using of my normal fixed blade razor. The best feature for me is the ability to be able to use it wet (my preferred method) in the shower. I have yet to have full shave with the razor dry, but the spots I missed in the first few shaves That I 'touched up' dry while getting used to the razor showed no irritation at all. I also find it a bit quicker than my normal razor as well, I would estimate at least 5 minutes quicker per full head and face shave. The result is comparable to my normal wet razor except in a couple of areas mainly the underside / point of my chin, its not visibly noticeable but I can feel it when running my hand over those areas, but this may be just experience related. I have also noticed that I use less shaving soap than I did before so it will save me some money in the long term. I would like to see what the shave is like in 6 months and whether I have to replace the cutting heads more often than the estimated 2 years as I am using it for a longer shave than it is really designed for each time I use it. The other thing I have noticed is it is so quiet when in use even when cutting several days’ growth. I was pleased at the fact it came well packed in attractive OEM packaging with its own travel case, the only thing I would suggest is perhaps a little additional space inside the travel case to accommodate the charging cable. Other than that it was easy to use, easy to clean with fast charging time and plenty of shaving time. The pictorial instructions are straight forward and easy to understand. It took a little while to get used to a different speed of shaving and the fact I had to use circular motions for the best shave, but now I wouldn't be without it. Even my girlfriend has noticed how good a shave it is, I didn't tell her I has switched from fixed blade wet shave to electric and she didn't notice the difference. I would recommend this razor to anyone considering 'trading up' to an electric razor. Had I had the chance to 'try before I buy' I would have purchased a similar model of razor years ago.Fraggle1971

Cost was just great on this purchase and the reason for purchasing two, one for myself and one for my son! I have experienced the single head of the Bliss for a while and when I saw the cost of the double head, thought I couldn't miss, plus I needed a birthday gift for him! The double head is much better and the recharging capability is absolutely fabulous! Saves switching batteries like I have had to do often on the single head. I purchased this shaver 07/09/2022. i took it home and started charging it, I couldn't wait to try it out so I used it in cord mode. I have tried the Mach 5 and a Braun version. While the Mach 5 produces a good close shave, it takes me 20 to 30 minutes of shaving to achieve that. Plus I have to use a lubricant while shaving to achieve the best shave. I used this new Babyliss shaver with no lubricant on my head and it literally took less than 3 minutes and it's the best shave I've had. it's nice and rugged metal, all others I have used have been plastic. It has definitely been the cheapest shaver I have tried. I was skeptical from reading some of the reviews, I do have more of a coarse hair which one of the reviews mentions getting results from. If you have coarse hair and want a great shave, I totally recommend this shaver! I'm not saying it won't do fine hair, I am just not a good test for that.Chris M.

Received this for free from Influenster in exchange for my honest review. First of all the box for this one looks so nice! Packaging was down really well and with care. This is my first time I try an electronic shaver my self. First off love the gold color on it mm it was pretty smooth easy to use honestly. I didn’t shaved for a few days cause I wanted to get the full effect of this product and it work really well. Highly recommend now I see why barbers really use these. Featured here is the Panasonic ES3831, a cousin of the ES3834 which I had and which it duplicates in every way except for the trimmer which the ES3834 had but which this ES3831 doesn't, but if you have no mustache to trim like I do, this ES3831 will be a must have for you. It follows a line of very reliable high quality Japanese precision Panasonic ES travel shavers. I could not believe at how great a shave it gave! And it runs for a long time on easy to find AA batteries. No fumbling around with a charger. Very handy when you're traveling international because different countries have different outlet configurations. With this handy precision quality shaver, you won't have to worry about that. Don't worry about getting it wet. It's water resistant and can be used for a wet shave. I gave mine to my wife, and after flirting with another brand that just didn't work despite its name and higher price, I'm going back to the exact same Panasonic model now to get back into the game.PapaBap

I wish in the "Tell us more" section, it had an option under "Do you recommend it?" to be "Maybe"; Ditto for is it a good value. It is well known that electric foil and "pad" shavers work well but maybe not as well as blade. Remember that old adage by some shaver manufacturers that their shavers "shave as close as a blade or your money back."? That tells you that blades shave closest. In the case of this Panasonic shaver, that is still true. The foil on this shaver gets dull rather quickly after using it for a few weeks, so I now have to follow it up with a going over with a razor. The reason that I use this shaver is that I keep cutting myself with the razor if I use the razor first; even with shaving cream. I wish there was a way to closely shave but not cut myself. On the good side, this shaver is waterproof and the batteries last a long time, weeks, before replacing.bricolaje

I was "born" into Norelco shavers, one might say, as I observed my father using the brand. That was some sixty years ago and, in the years since, I've been been through a few of them, some pricey, some not so pricey and some extremely pricey. A couple of months ago I saw the Series 6600 on display at my local Costco as I entered the store. A few days later I was at the store and I looked more closely and decided to buy it at $99 and something. If there is such a thing as "love at first shave," this was it! It took just an hour for a full charge and I expected a few weeks of getting used to. No such thing. It was just what my face was waiting for all these years. A shave that was pure, silky comfort and luxury and in under 2 minutes. I've had a life-long hatred for shaving and I've computed the number of days I may have wasted at that chore. For a while, since 2015 or so I think, most Philips Norelco models had heads with two rows of blades and were somewhat open on the outside. I feel this was a mistake as skin could get caught in the open spaces. This model however has the blades completely enclosed by the comb with one row of blades. Like the old ones used to be. And believe me, one row of blades is fine. I get a great shave from this model. Philips Norelco reached the apex of electric shaving technology years ago with lift-and-cut blades, and they just keep improving. But the previous style of blades was not best for me. Speaking of lift-and-cut, that was not a meaningless marketing slogan. If the hairs were long enough you could actually feel them being plucked, ouch. Fortunately gone are the days of nickel-cadmium batteries taking 8 hours to charge and dry shaving only. This is the new era of electric shaving. The blades are self sharpening and most if not all models are now wet / dry. This model feels sturdy and solid with good weight. Fits well in the hand. And the motor is strong but not too loud. And the blades cut through stubble like it's not even there. I've used many norelco models through the years. But there's something about this one. It cuts cleaner, easier and faster. And it just feels better on my face, and in my hand. I shave in the shower with Nivea Men Sensitive gel, because I'm a sensitive guy. And if I'm in a hurry I shave dry. I had one similar to this two years ago and loved it so I had to get another! It grabbed those stubbles in private areas that a regular razor can’t! The only negative things I have to say is it sometimes it pinches. If you have longer hair that gets into the foil part it pulls and the side blades hurt a little(can cut your sensitive bits)Adriane

By far the worst electric razor I’ve ever used (and I’ve been through several!). You think the pencil-thin $8.50 bikini / fine hair trimmer is rough? Wait until you get yanked, tugged, and scraped by this monstrosity while still keeping 75% of the hair you go over. Waste of money and will be going straight in the trash. Another great rotary in Philips' lineup. This series does solve the issue of many complaints regarding the detachable trimmer and heads of other Philips shavers – it has the traditional flip-top head and pop-up trimmer. This adds to the bulk of the shaver, body and head, but precludes having to keep track of a separate trimmer and remove the head for cleaning, and it works reasonably well, although for me the trimmer isn't quite as effective as the SmartClick attachments for the Series 9000 shavers. The ComfortGlide Rings really are effective, and provide a frictionless shave, although in this model they are slightly larger than the Anti-Friction rings of the S7940 for example, and require some maneuvering to get around tight areas. The Quick Clean pods use the same cleaning solution as the SmartClean cartridges for the SmartClean stations, which is excellent for cleaning and lubricating the shaver. The Quick Clean Pod is unpowered however, and uses the shaver's power, reducing it by about 1 percent per cleaning, although on a positive note doesn't require cords or cables and is more compact – actually usable for travel. The GroomTribe app is the Achilles Heel of all these Bluetooth shavers, and in particular this model (S7782), because there's no information regarding this particular shaver – the app seems exclusively to recognize only the S7940 shaver. On the plus side, the S7782 will connect, and it does record the shaving time and the percentage of rotation (which improves shaving efficiency), although the motion sensor algorithm in the shaver appears not to recognize the correct rotational movement about half the time. The good news is you don't actually need the app, and this shaver has an LED screen that provides all the essential information about the shaver, including battery life, cleaning information and the previously mentioned inaccurate rotation statistics. The shaving heads (SH71/52) only have a single cutting ring, but actually are comfortable and provide a very close shave. Overall, an excellent rotary from Philips, that provides a close, comfortable shave, warts and all, with the potential to improve with software updates to the app. Recommended.S7782

Been shaving for 45 years, and mostly with Panasonic shavers. They are by far the best shavers made. I have 4 Panasonics in my collection right now… the ES8249, ES-LF51 ES-LA93 and the new ES-LV97. Whats nice about Panasonic is that the charger/cleaning station can be used interchangeable with almost any of it models in a pinch. I've used Braun, Reminington and most the top brands and Panasonic is the best, IMHO. The Braun had an annoying vibration to it and not as smooth as the Panasonics. My current shaver is a ES LA93 which is very good but only has 3 blades The ES-VS97 in new and improved, and I mean that literally. The 5 blade head are smooth and soft, and cut with less swipes than the ones with 3 blades. The pop up trimmer is a big improvement over older models, as it locks in place moving in either direction. Lastly, cosmetically it is much nicer looking with a matte black finish.cgnaked

I’m switching to this electric Panasonic Arc5 razor after having used another brand’s wet/dry electric razor for the past 13 years. The Arc5 razor is lightweight, and the matte black plastic doesn’t look or feel very premium, however, a silver/chrome model is also available and the warranty is 2 years. This razor performs very nicely and gives me a close shave both when using dry and wet with shaving cream. I very rarely have to make more than one pass over the same patch of skin, though I find that when shaving dry it’s easier to pull the skin taught to raise the hairs since I don’t have to work over the shaving cream. The first time I used the razor I did experience a bit of razor burn and irritation, especially around the Adam’s apple; the manual suggests that it could take up to 30 days of regular use for your skin to acclimate to the new shaver. That, plus I haven’t clean shaven properly in weeks as growing out your beard has become quite trendy during the COVID-19 pandemic. That said, I did use the trimmers first to trim my facial hair down to stubble before shaving and was impressed with the efficiency and smoothness of the pop up trimmers; they didn’t catch, pull, or snag once, which my old electric razor used to do constantly. If you like the stubble or 5 o’clock shadow look, you could probably even stop there. The LCD is bright and easy to read, but it really only gives you information about the remaining battery life and whether or not it is set to the “cleaning” mode. The charging cable connector is uniquely shaped, so if you lose it or it breaks, you’ll need to get a model/series specific replacement cable. It lasts about 2 weeks on a full charge (1 hour) if your daily shave averages about 3 minutes. While the unit I have did not come with a charging base, there are contacts on back of the handle for automatic charging when the razor is placed into a charging base. What I did find interesting about this razor is its beard density sensor which changes the motor speed based on the density/coarseness of the section of beard it is trimming. You can hear the motor sound change as it encounters thinner or thicker patches of hair, which works well on my uneven and patchy beard growth. The razor also has a cleaning cycle and comes with blade oil to maintain the blade sharpness and a brush to clean out any shavings. The top pops off easily for cleaning, and the foils and blades are simple to remove and replace when needed. The unit did come with a leatherette carry case and a plastic protective cap for travel. My beard may be a bit different than the avg. guy’s beard. I’m not a hairy guy, & I don’t have a thick, coarse, stubbly beard. If I don’t shave during the work week, I won't end up with a stylish 5 o’clock shadow until Friday afternoon–a look that a lot of other guys can achieve in just 1 day. But even with my soft, thin facial hair, this electric razor doesn’t offer the close shave I’d hoped for. In fact, the number of passes I’m forced to make over my face & neck to obtain a clean, whiskerless mug is both annoying & time-consuming. So, despite my slow-growing beard, if I don’t shave at least 2-to-3 times/week w/this electric razor, then I’m forced to revert to a disposable razor for a clean shave. In addition, I found that the shaver’s large head makes it a bit unwieldy & difficult to obtain a close shave in the area just beneath my nose. Whether shaving wet or dry & regardless of technique (going against the grain, stretching the skin, toggling the shaver head between the “free” & “lock” positions, utilizing the pop-up trimmer, etc.), I also found it difficult to get a clean shave under my jaw line, below my sideburns. I experienced similar difficulty in shaving the tiny hairs in the lower neck/throat area on either side of my Adam’s apple. Although some may prefer to utilize the razor’s wet shave capability, I don’t like to shave in the shower. Although I did try the wet shave option, it didn’t cut any better than the dry shave. So, after 2 tries at wet shaving, I went back to traditional dry shaving. As for the suggested shaving cream option, I don’t use shaving cream with an electric razor. For me, the whole pt. of an electric razor is convenience & time savings vs. dealing w/the hassles of a manual razor (running hot water, applying/removing shaving cream/gel, & cauterizing bloody nicks, etc.). Simply put: an electric shaver should provide a QUICK, safe, close shave without all the mess & fuss. Although a 2-yr. mfr.’s limited warranty sounds impressive vs. the industry std., a quick check revealed that the common recommended replacement parts (new blades & foils) aren’t inexpensive. So, I doubt I’ll be able to justify the expense of regular maintenance w/this razor (apart from routine cleaning). Instead, I’ll probably elect to put those funds towards the cost of a new shaver. Furthermore, the lithium ion battery life is just 3 yrs., & it isn’t intended to be replaced by the consumer. In some ways, this shaver could almost be considered an expensive disposable razor. On a minor note, the black travel case/pouch feels like cheap vinyl without any real padding or cushioning to fully protect the hardware & sensitive electronics. Overall, I'm a bit underwhelmed & disappointed, as I expected greater performance—namely, a closer, quicker shave—from a premium electric shaver at this price point.CriticalEye

This is a great, Great Razor!!! It must be charged for the night or a few hours when you first get it though. You don't need to leave it plugged in though. Once it has been charged fully, you will have several days worth of power. It is very quiet, it gives a really close shave and it is really smooth on the face. In addition, it is very simple to clean. You can removed the guard and it reveals the blades of the razor. You just run some water over the blades and it removes the hair clippings.bj987keller

The Good: Great feel, grip, shave, ease of cleaning, quick charge time, trimmer is handy for sideburns to shape them up between haircuts. The Bad: I have now gone through two of these in about 2 years….the first lasted about 18 mos, the second, about 5. Problem? For whatever reason, after awhile, it will not charge. I also use shaving cream when I get out of the shower and use the razor, rinse it before, during and after use….and always and I mean always, after the period of time, you get up, plug it in, go in the shower, come out, dead. It won't charge. My guess? The Lithium Ion Batts. While ALL batteries have a lifespan, they should be much longer thant this. I rinse the head during shaving (shaving cream buildup and hair) 2-3 times while shaving paying attention to let the water drain down 90-95%….I don't think it's water intrusion….as deep as this thing goes is running it under the faucet head down? I used both the old and new charger….the new one shows all power lights on for about 2-3 seconds, goes dim, dead……there is something about these batteries that are not right….I am off to Walmart this mornign to get a 3rd in less than 3 years THIS time WITH the cheap warranty…..I have used Brauns for over 30 years and the batteries always seem to be the issue…do NOT pack them in luggage that will go in the cargo hold or you will find them dead, not chargeable when you get to your destination…this one is ONLY used at home. I take a cheap corded Braun on the road and it's about 20 years old now, still works but it's a dry shave…irritating…….I like the ability to use shaving cream for a much more comfortable shave but, this battery thing is aggravating…..over the 30 years I have gone through multiple 3, 5, 7 and 9 series razors…they ALL have battery failures eventually…so you end up buying a new one…..why? Because the other brands suck MORE. I have had Remington, Norelco (couldn't shave close with a gun to it's head), Chinese knockoffs even a small cordless from Harbor Freight that despite is size and slow speed delivered a great shave until it quit working…..it seems that if a rechargeable battery is run for 20 mins a day max, 6-7 days a week, it SHOULD last more than 6 months….never dropped, never abused, always left open on the counter after rinsing to let the head and razor dry after separated….still died….ridiculous…..I only hope the warranty is worth something when the next one croaks….no warning either….just dies…..still the best brand overall….Terry

I've never really liked wet dry shavers but this one changed my mind. it shaves flawless and leaves you face as smooth as using a traditional razor. i love that it's wireless and it charges very quickly and stays charged for a great amount of time. and cleaning is a breeze with the included brush and removable heads. you can also remove the head and run it under water for a deep clean. all around this is and excellent shaver.James

You’ll never match a blade with an electric, but this comes real close. It gives a reasonably close shave. I love the convenience it provides. You can shave with shave cream or dry, though I do think the wet shave is a bit more comfortable. I found using an after shave gel makes your face feel refreshed. Clean up with this razor is quick and easy. Most times I simply rinse the blade area and set the razor back in the cleaning/charging unit. I use the cleaning unit after two or so shaves so the razor gets a thorough cleaning. I love this shaver.Budman49

I have been using Braun electric shavers for a decade now. I recently replaced my Braun Series 3 with this Series 9 shaver, and there is a noticeable difference. I replaced my Series 3 because the gears inside were worn out and whenever I would shave the Series 3 would pull hairs instead of cutting them — it was really painful. The Series 9 is a smoother shave than the series 3. When using the Series 9 I can cut most of the hair on my face with 1 pass. This shaver is very comfortable to shave with too, I don’t even feel like I am cutting hair off my face with this shaver. So far I have shaved 4 days in a row with it and I have no irritation and my face is very smooth. The cleaning station is very easy to use, after I shave I just put the shaver into the cleaning station and then hit the power buttton and it begins to clean the shaver. After the cleaning station cleans the shaver it’s ready for the next morning. Every morning the shaver feels new out of the box. I was skeptical at first about spending the extra money for the cleaning station, but it is absolutely worth it, in my opinion. Th build quality of the Series 9 is very good. It feels high quality. The shaver says “Made in Germany” on the back. I highly recommend the Series 9 cleaning station if you’re looking at this as a potential shaving option.Joseph

I have used this shaver only twice. Both times dry, once after 3 days of not shaving, once after on day. Shaver is noisy, but the shave is smooth. After 3 days takes a long time. You have to passed on your face several times. If you shave couple of times a week this is not the right shaver. Don't cut the fine hairs on the neck. Curvature of the shaving head dose not allow to reach under the nose. But you can use the trimmer. Trimmer width is too narrow and too close to shaver head. This shaver is not for traveling. Cleaning part to bulky and cleaning solution can not be put in carrying case (TSA), so you need to carry a suite case and pay extra, unless you are travelling first class. No plastic cover for shaving head, but carrying case quite good and sturdy. A plastic cap can be produced in China for about 50 cents. Consumables. Require cleaning solution and lubricant oil. All extra expenses. This a good shaver, but not suitable if you travel and if you don't mind the bulky cleaning and consumable. They don't want to sell just a shaver, but also a steady income stream by selling consumable.Jeffj

I own two other Norelco shavers, a two year old S7940 and a twelve year old 9160 XL. Both of these were the top-of-the-line model when purchased and have given me flawless service. See my photo comparisons of these three shavers. Norelco currently offers two core designs in its shavers. The more expensive 5000/7000/9000 series are slimmer and have a “mushroom” head which sit above the body of the shaver and thus have more flexibility to conform to your face. The other design is seen in the more basic and economical 1000/2000/3000 series which have a flatter head design. Like all Norelco shavers the S3134 is elegantly styled and very ergonomic. It is a nice combination of steel blue and black. It is lightweight, but feels substantial in your hand. There is rubberized grip material where your index finger and thumb would grasp the shaver and your remaining three fingers cradle the sides of the shaver’s body. It is a bit longer than my 9160 Norelco and a bit lighter. Compared to the 7940 it is wider and slightly heavier. On the front of the shaver is the power button and a single LCD icon which lights when charging or to indicate (in orange) that the battery life is low. The reason I added this shaver to my collection is that I have the feeling that my trusty 9160 is nearing retirement age. I like having two shavers available and the flatter head shape of the 9160 and the 3134 work well with parts of my face, while the “mushroom” shape of the 7940 head is best for other parts of my face. One significant difference between the three Norelco shavers I own is the number of blades in the three rotary heads. See my photos which show the cutting heads and blades of the three shavers. The oldest model (9160) has three rings of blades (12 in the outer ring, 6 in the middle ring and 3 in the inner ring.) That is a total of 21 blades in each head (63 total.) The S7940 shaver has a double ring of blades (15 in the outer ring and 9 in the inner ring.) That is a total of 24 blades in each head (72 total.) The S3134 shaver has only 9 blades in each head (27 total.) What is the effect of more vs. fewer blades? The advantage of more blades is a faster and closer shave. However, the chance of developing an ingrown hair is greater with the 7940 model since its 72 total blades cut very closely compared to the 27 more widely spaced blades of the 3134 model. If you have a tendency to develop razor bumps on your skin you may find that the 3134 is a better choice. The battery life on this shaver is actually much greater than the 50 minutes claimed by Norelco. I tested it by running it continuously from a fully-charged state and it lasted 121 minutes! Now it should be noted that this was not actual shaving time, so I estimate that actual shaving time would be about 100+ minutes. Recharge time from a fully-discharged state was 68 minutes. Other notes about the charging system: The orange low-charge warning light activated with 5.5 minutes of running time remaining. A five minute quick charge gave 9.5 minutes of shaving time. This is my second Norelco electric shaver that I have owned in the last 3 years and there is a considerable improvement from my old one. Let's start with the charging time. All you need is 1 hour of charging time for 60 minutes of shaving time. I easily get 3 good shaves out of 1 charge! The shaver also comes with a nice little charge indicator to let you know how much juice the shaver has left. The next thing you will notice is how easy it is to grip this Norelco. The stem is wrapped with a nice anti-slip rubber that makes handling much easier. Once you are ready to start shaving, I really like how I have the option of either having a dry or wet shave. If I am needing a quick clean up, then I go dry, but if I want a closer shave, I always use shaving foam. I have really sensitive skin, so I really appreciate the pivot and flex heads on this Philips Norelco. Not only do they provide a clean shave, but it doesn't irritate my face. I really like how well it shaves my face and neck, but the only reason why I gave it 4 out of 5 stars is because doesn't do that good of a job right underneath my jaw line. Another plus of this Norelco, is how easy it is to clean it. All you have to do is flip open the shaver head and rinse with water. On the back side of the shaver you will find the pop up trimmer, which is usefull, but it takes a while to get used to using on your sideburns, as I found it a little awkward to handle on my face. I figured I would try this out because I want something convenient and economical. In-grown hairs drive me crazy and this shaver is supposed to help. They say it takes about three weeks to see the effects of using the new shaver. So far, I feel like it is improving a lot of my facial hair, but some stragglers are being stubborn and don’t want to change (at least yet). Each day, the shaver does an amazing job on the majority of my hair. However, it does not seem to be able to lift up hairs laying completely flat against my skin. No matter how many times I go over them and no matter what angle, those hairs get missed. I have to go back and touch up with a regular razor, which gets them without a problem. The hope is after a few more weeks of “training” the stubborn hairs, the beard as a whole will grow in the appropriate direction for the shaver. For longer hair like sideburn touch ups, there is a pop-up trimmer ready to keep them looking good in between haircuts. Having a straight trimmer for them is so much easier than using a razor or scissors. The shaver itself is simple to use. The battery lasts one hour and takes one hour to charge. I have not needed to charge it yet because shaving with it is fast. Cleanup is simple! One push of a button flips the blades up for easy rinsing and drying. The fact that this is suitable for wet or dry is huge for me! I prefer a wet shave and, even if someone likes a dry shave, it just makes life easier knowing this thing can get wet. Overall, I am happy with this shaver. It is the first electric shaver I have had in about twenty years, and they have come a long way. I have had electric shavers, ever since I started shaving, and have noticed that the Philips brand, has always been one of the best ones. The shaver I had before getting this Philips Norelco CareTouch, was an off-brand, and it constantly felt too slow and ripped the hair out when it got a few days old. This Norelco CareTouch is WAY better, and cuts it, not ripping it out. The speed of the blades makes a big difference, as this one sounds like they spin faster than my previous one. The space between the blade and the protective cover is the right gap, because it doesn’t scratch my skin or make it red. The trade-off is that it is not going to be an EXTREMELY close shave, but for me, it is perfect. I do not have coarse whiskers, so that too-close shave is not what I want. I like it when the shave is cutting hair, not scraping the surface of my skin over and over. I do a dry shave, but it does have the capability for a wet or dry shave, so I will be trying this in the shower. I would imagine it gives an even smoother shave, at that point. The balance of the shaver is pretty nice. The button is placed far enough away from where you place your thumb, that it will not inadvertently shut off, like my previous off-brand shaver lacked. I use my shaver every other day or 2, ever since Covid-times, but normally did it every morning. The battery life in this shaver is 60 minutes of use on a 1-hour charge, which ends up bring ~20 shaves. Well, I shave about half as much, as I only get hair like a Fu Manchu, so I would get about 40 shaves out of it, and then add in the “every other day,” it will get me through ~80 days. I charged it fully, so we will see how long it truly lasts. Blades definitely go bad before the shaver/battery, so the fact that there are self-sharpening blades, is awesome. If you need to replace the blades, it is “Philips Norelco Shaving Heads for Shaver Series 3000.” There is a built-in trimmer for sideburns, which I use, because I cut my own hair, but cannot get close enough with the hair trimmer, for the back end of my hairline, and this is very good for that too. The site shows in the specs, that it has NO travel pouch, but there is a case with a zipper, which I would classify it as a travel pouch. I just keep mine in the drawer, with the top cap on, so I won’t be using the travel case all that often. Overall, I like it, and it is far better than my previous model. The first thing I noticed was the main power button. From past experiences, this button design is a big deal to me. It's sturdy and there's no doubt if I'm pressing on it. The shave was quite smooth and my skin actually looks healthier; an added hidden benefit perhaps? I have sensitive, fair skin and so after shaving, I didn't have any blotchy skin, nor was it obvious that I had shaved, except of course for the smooth, clean just shaved look. I received compliments on my skin after using the new shaver. The charge is quick for a full charge, but if you are in a pinch and just need a one time shave until you can charge it again, you can simply plug it in for about 5 minutes or more if you need a quick shave. I don't have a mustache or sideburns and have longish hair on my head so don't really need the trimmer and for that reason, can't give a review on that part of the razor. The razor comes with a protective cap and a storage pouch to protect from dust. Cleaning is simple since it's a wet/dry razor and you can simply pop the top of he razor open and rinse under warm water and it's important to let air dry and not rub paper towels on it because the tiny lint can get trapped in the blades and cause it to not give a smooth shave or it may interfere with the use of the product and damage it. After it's been air dried you can simply close the top and store. it's water proofed so no need to worry you may cause water damage. The sound the razor makes while it's in use isn't loud so that's a plus. The razor has a gripped rubber like checkered pattern on either side of the power button to allow for non slip use, but it seems like lint can and has easily accumulated there. Not a deal breaker, because droppage is a huge concern and the grip is definitely a plus, especially for those who like a wet shave, which I do not for the most part because my skin is sensitive to soaps and shaving creams. if there's an orange light flashing it means you are low in battery and time to charge. When charging the light blinks white and then all white lights will be steady and white when FULLY charged.Bubbles

The Philips Norelco Shaver of this design has been around for ages, and I can see why. I have owned several of these over the years and keep coming back to it because of its shave quality and reliability. This new design features better gripping surfaces, which improves the performance if you are using it with wet hands or in a wet area, like the shower. In addition, the 3-bar charging indicator is a really nice add–on previous versions, you would get a blinking single light when the charge was low, and more than once I would run out of juice in the middle of a shave. No longer will that happen. I just charge it when it gets down to one bar. One of my favorite features of the shaver is the side trimmer. This trimmer provides very crisp sideburn trimming and also trimming of the hair around my ears. It also works well for trimming of light nose hair. As with any new shaver, I get some irritation with the first few shaves. this is stated in the manual, and mine goes away after just a few shaves. I love the ability of this shaver to provide a close shave, even in harder to reach areas.stirfry

I have owned Rorelcos and Remingtons, for much more than the price, and I like this one. Though the instructions could be better, here are the pro's and con's: The heads shave well. The trimmer has a bit to be desire. The battery lasts a good amount of time, and once figured out, the "lock mode" works well. It takes a bit getting used to, while shaving, to not touch the on/off button. It does, however, have a good feel, in the hand, while shaving. The pouch could be a bit larger, since you really have to figure out how to put it all in, including the plastic head cover. All in all, for someone that likes to travel, and do it lightly, I would definitely recommend it.alanpowell1

Do not buy this haver. I purchased this shaver as a back for my locker at work. The charge does not hold very long, the shave is no where near to being a close shave. My skin gets irritated because I have to go over the same area over and over. The on/off switch is in an awkward place because you repeatedly turn the shaver off as you are shaving. I would look for a different. Inexpensive, but now I know why.DanB

I bought this to replace another name brand electric shaver. I was hesitant at first but, WOW, I was totally shocked. This is the best shave I’ve ever had with an electric razor.Packerman77
