The Hold me down gelle is my go to styler for my wash and go styles. I have 3C/4A high porosity color-treated fine strand dense curly hair (whew!) and this styler gives me the elongation hold and definition for 5 days with minimal touch ups. My hair gets more voluminous each day while maintaining its definition which I love! Day 4 is my favorite because it’s the perfect happy medium for volume and definition for me. Hi I don't normally write reviews but when something is as good as this gel there needs to be recognition. I was gifted this gel about 4 months ago it didn't really appeal to me but I was in a rush to get to work after washing my hair and couldn't find my regular gel. Long story short, I use the gel last minute on soaking wet hair and no leave in conditioner (I'm 100% natural 4c by the way) and to my surprise not only was my hair moisturized and soft but lasted 4 days straight without reapplying. I am shocked and amazed. I wish I can give more than 5 stars.🤩
I stumbled across the Green Apple & Aloe Miracle Hold Gel online, while searching for a replacement for the Passion Fruit Curl Control product I had used for years. It was getting hard to find and stores would only have 1 or 2 on the shelves or none at all. It also seemed to make my hair come out, but it was the best I could find but began to use it less and less, and just wore wigs. When I saw the Taliah Waajid line, I was pleasantly surprised and ordered it. I liked the "No parabens, sulfates, phthalates silicon, synthetic dyes, mineral oil, animal use, alcohol, gluten or GMO" in the description. I also liked the oils it used: Castor oil, aloe vera, olive fruit and nut oils and vitamins which were in its ingredients list. Well, the result is 5 stars for my 4c very hard to hold hair!!! Past products caked or hardened, and most of all, broke off my hair and mid day, flyaways sprang up and the product melted down my face. This gel is hands down the best one ever. I feel confident I won't look weird at the end of the day, and it STAYS FLAT ALL DAY!!! Thank you!

This is hands down the best curly hair gel on the market. I use 2-3 pumps for my whole head and scrunch it in after applying a leave in conditioner to very wet hair. It starts by drying hard but then as the day goes on, your hair looks and feels so soft and the curls are still in place. If i’m looking for a stronger hold because of a slick-back ponytail or something, I usually opt for a stronger gel like Not Your Mother’s. I branched out a year ago to try new products for my wavy hair and I stumbled on this one. I wasn’t sure at first because it’s a weird texture. Kinda like a watery gel. I wasn’t 100% sure it would help my hair. Omg. I was so wrong to be skeptical. This stuff is in my everyday hair arsenal. I scrunch this into my wet hair after a shower. Sometimes it’s all I use and it leaves my hair soft and gently defined. If I want stronger definition, I add in Marc Anthony’s curly mousse right after this and scrunch it in with a t-shirt then let air dry. Feels just like snot!! And gets the job DONE! So just so that you know, I’m a lazy 4C natural. Meaning I do bare minimum to maintain a few strands of hair on my non-chemically treated hair. I literally do not use styling products, partially out of laziness but even more so out of fear of breakage and dryness etc. I took a chance, and for the first tome in years, I tried a styling product, and this was it. It’s a gel with the exact consistency of snot. First wash your hair, condition, leave in condition or whatever, and then while your hair is still soaking wet, apply a GENEROUS amount. I bought this product in-store about a month ago and have spent the last two weeks recovering from the severe reaction that stemmed from it. After looking up the ingredients on the package, I realized too late that there are a few key irritants in the product that reacted negatively to my skin. My symptoms include scalp irritation and tenderness, face sores, and intense swelling around my right eye. I would highly recommend steering clear from this product and brand. Because regardless of the quality (price) of products I use, my wash n go will last 4-5 days—which I’m absolutely fine with. So I wash it every 4-5 days, which is too often for a lot of people; not my problem. I love botanical-based products like these because they’re usually easier to work with—when you have long hair that’s a plus. In my opinion, it clumps my type 4 hair like a mane choice gel, but with less hold, more moisture, WAY MORE slip and I don’t feel a residue in the coming days. My hair just feels softer as the week goes on. As said on YouTube, this is a medium hold not a strong Wetline-type hold. So it’s a perfect, affordable option for someone who washes often and typically wears wash n go’s, like myself. Due to the softness of my hair, I would also use this for twists—I don’t do twist outs. I don’t think it would have enough hold for fingercoils on my hair. Overall, I do love using this gel, it plays well with a variety of leave-ins and mousses, so I’ll be repurchasing it. Just in other places because it’s cheaper.
I received this product from Influenster as a sample to try. I gave 3 stars to try and keep it neutral. I’ve never been big when it comes to hair products like mousse, gels, hairspray, etc. I don’t like my hair to be crunchy, stiff or sticky. I also don’t really have curly hair…it’s actually wavy but even more so naturally frizzy and I usually straighten it or braid it. I tried it because I love the first product that I tried by the same company which is the oil mist. But unfortunately I didn’t like the gel for the reasons I stated above. I normally use a different hair gel brand for my curls but after trying Dark & Lovely’s Let’s Jam condition & shine hair gel, I do believe I will be using this going forward. The extra hold for certain hair style types is phenomenal, this is great for hair braiding, hair twisting, and keeping any edging slick and in place. Depending on the weather outside most hair gels leave a lot of visible dry flaking or gel clumps that are sticky and hard to wash out, with this hair gel it was minimal if at all. You get a large sized container that is affordable, and you really don’t need a lot of product either. So upon opening this gel, inside it looks like a big black gel ball. When you wipe it with your fingers to get some out, you will actually see that it is a clearish color. The problem is that it is very greasy. I put on quite a bit to get it to hold because it says extra hold but it felt more like a hair grease than a gel. The smell is ok, not horrible, it smells partially good, but there is a weird after smell there that lingers that I can't put my finger on. Honestly this wasn’t my favorite and it’s sad because this is what I was most looking forward to using. Typically curl gels are great in that they’re light weight but because I have dense thick coils they typically don’t define my curls well or give me the hold I need. Thus, choosing the strong hold gel I thought it would give me the shine, definition and hold I needed. While the shine and hold were decent the definition was definitely not there for my coils. Additionally although it’s advertised that the product doesn’t cause flaking when I paired it with the styling cream it flaked when I used it by itself it still flaked. Not very impressed. I also noticed that when using the gel I began getting a lot of pimples on my face (especially forehead) area and I tend to only get hormonal acne and even then it’s typically one to two pimples this caused me to have wayyy more than I’m use to. I’m not sure if it’s because of me working out so much but I don’t think I like this product. I wish there was something designed for people with sensitive skin and low porosity in mind instead of just a generalized product that works for 3b-4c curls/coils as everyone’s curl, scalp and pattern is different creating various styling products (especially gels/custards) that work for specific types of hair similar to what’s been done for the Pattern conditioners would be helpfulCharisse W.
I wanted to love this gel but nope. Made sure my hair was damp, use this for a top bun. Barely slicked my hair down. I bought this gel without touching it first in the store. The texture is kind of watery. You tell just by touching it that it doesn't provide strong hole. I probably have 4b or 4c frizzy hair. The Mielle rosemary edge tamer I use provided more hold than this even though edge tamer isn't supposed to be for slicking down the body of your hair. I will not be repurchasing this gel.deec07
The first time I used this gel, I used it after using the hair mask and cream from the same product line. My 4a-4b coils felt hydrated and were super defined, but it was flaky from day 2 – day 7/wash day. The second time I used the gel, I hoped to avoid some of the flakiness by reducing the level of hold. I used a lotion from another product line then used the gel. As I brushed the product through my hair, small balls of wax or a wax-like substance formed. It was a mess, and as another reviewer stated, “this gel does not work well with other products”. I tried it on my edges for control. Hours later, it was a gummy mess that I wished I’d noticed before going out in public. I have 2C, high density, coarse, porous, long hair. Since adding heavy highlights to blend the grays, my hair has been a dry, frizzy nightmare! I have read endless product reviews, watched countless You Tube Videos regarding care and products for my hair. I have purchased so many products that it is insane, and none fully managed to clump my curls/waves and provide humidity protection.
I use a leave in conditioner applied in the shower to soaking wet hair. I then use a curl primer. I scrunch these products into hair and micro plop to remove excess water. I then apply curl keeper just like gel, using praying hands method to coat each curl. I add more to the crown and smooth over waves. I then plop for 10-30 minutes depending on if I’m air drying or diffusing.
I actually prefer to air dry and this product allows that, though it takes hours to dry. Can form a slight cast which I actually love. Once fully dry any crunch is easily scrunched out. I NEVER have shine in my hair due to the coarse texture but with this my curls are defined and shiny. Best part is that even in high humidity this holds perfectly.
I cannot speak to 2nd or 3rd day hair as I haven’t been able to test this part yet.

I appreciate the way this Cantu Flaxseed gel works on curls. My hair is more wavy than curly but it actually softens the look a bit. It is not heavy or stiff on your hair either. I love that it has natural things like Aloe, Shea butter and Vitamin E in it so you know there aren't harsh chemicals on your hair. It doesn't smell and is easy to apply. I love the scent and texture of this product and it works great for my natural 3b curls BUT I cannot get past day one hair with this product. I’ve used it with different products and alone and NOPE…every single time by the next day my curls turned into a frizzy weighed down mess sadly. I can use other Cantu products with no problems and I really wanted this to work if only I could get past the first day my curls would be poppin! (even using a Satin bonnet didn’t help with getting passed day 1 and using a curl refresher or water made it worse) And just to add for my day one curls this made a excellent one and done product….wonderful definition etc so this might be great for someone who’s looking for that in a product. I've used L'Oreal's "Lock-It" gel for years, and they've now discontinued it with no warning (or I would have stocked up for life!). This new product is not at all a substitute or replacement for "Lock-It" and did absolutely nothing to hold my short, spiky haircut in place, or even last long enough to style it and use another product to set it.
I love this gel. I am a nurse who lives in Fl and must tie my hair back all day. I have very thick, somewhat frizzy Cherokee Indian type hair. I HATE hairspray and if I don't use gel, my hair looks like a frizzy mess in a few hours. I'm so glad I found this L'Oreal gel. It holds my pony tail in place all day. I'm 2C/3A and have used this gel for years and loved it; unfortunately, like their Decadence conditioner, it has been reformulated and it's horrible now. If sticky, limp, greasy curls are your thing, this gel is what you're looking for. It no longer holds the way it used to, smells awful, and leaves my hair frizzy and greasy. I was looking for a strong hold gel to hold a curl better with a curling iron (I should have read the description better, because I'm not looking for slicked back style). I purchased this item from the reviews I read about the hold it gave to edges. I was looking for something for my locs that would not make my hair brittle, white, etc. I dont find this product to produce those affects, but it does not hold my edges. I don't make it out the door in the morning without them rising, and I have soft fine hair. I've tried to add water first, then the product. No water, and just the product, adding a wrap for a few minutes while I dress without great results for the entire day. I like the smell of it however, that's a plus. Perhaps I'll look into a super hold next instead.La H.

Well this product does not work well with oil. It turned into white balls all over my hair. It make my scalp itch and flaked really bad. You will get a very hard curl so if this is what you want, it's for you. I would sample a small amount while at home with no other product. I have psoriasis on my scalp and my hair is curly dry and frizzy. My daily routine is add oil on my scalp and massage my scalp with it and then I put my curl cream and diffuse my hair. Before finding this product my morning routine was to shower blow dry with a round brush (15-20 mins) or blow dry then straighten (20-30 mins) and if I was running late I knew it was going to be a bad (hair) day! A friend told me about this we have similar hair wavy (not curly and not straight) thin and moderately healthy. I dye my hair regularly but it's still in mediocre condition. Well, this crime has changed my life! I wake up shower wash and condition my hair then towel dry comb it and apply this Creme and scrunch it as I'm making coffee and getting other things ready. I let my hair air dry scrunching when I get a chance on my way to work! Voila! I have beautiful natural looking defined curls all day and everyone compliments me on my hair. My hair is very curly & dry and needs serious frizz control. I was looking for a replacement for Pureology Power Dressing which was discontinued. Their products (though good) are never stocked and/or are discontinued regularly…expensive too. It became a hassle to try to find the product so I am trying to find another product line. I tried this Curly Sexy Hair and it is a cream base that is nice, but a little too light for me. To be fair, I do need a hair cut so it is a bit out of control to begin with. But I am trying to grow it out some. This cream could also be good for those that do not want crunchy hair. I am liking the Deva Curl line except the style gel is a bit lighter as well. And the shampoo doesn't go very far…low/no suds makes you feel like you need to use more. But using the style gel in conjunction with the Deva Set it Free Moisture Lock (love that product!) has worked the best so far. Try the travel size first to see if it works for you before investing as it gets a bit pricey too. The Ouidad is another good line for curly hair…but again, more control is needed than what their styling products offer. The thought is that heavier products weigh down curl. I feel like I should use it again to give it a proper review. But my initial thoughts were this was okay. I have 4a-c curls, low porosity, medium density, fine/medium hair. With that being said, this took FOREVER to dry. But maybe I used too much (1/3 of the bottle). I used it on soaking wet hair for a wash n go but it took 3 days to really dry and it still was wet on the third day. I also had flakes. But I might have used to much. It says firm hold which it’s true because it had a cast, but it’s not really a defining gel? Idk, I felt I had to use a lot to get the results I wanted. It didn’t last because it felt dry but at least it was cute. Would I recommend? Not really. I wouldn’t purchase this even though I love this brand.vanessa.p
Upon opening my free product to review as an Influencer I was happy to see it has no parabens.The enclosed pamphlet about the product claims this gel keeps hair moist and doesn’t dry it out as well as giving my hair more body and shine! Wow and to top it off tame fly aways! Yes please! So I was really excited to try it now! Upon opening it I was struck by the light fresh scent, the product itself is runny, it’s not a thick gel but that’s okay with me. I found it absorbs very quickly in my hair and isn’t sticky at all! My hair felt soft after application, and most importantly for me it didn’t tangle my very long hair! I was very excited what would the results be? So I applied it to my long hair, right after showering. I then combed it through and braided my hair in two braids. When braiding it it didn’t get stuck as often and when it did, no tangles it was smooth and beautiful neat looking braids ! I am impressed! So the next day I woke up and noticed that my braids after sleeping on them looked better than usual. They were not so fuzzy and undone. Still looked pretty nice! I then let my hair down, and it was super soft, it had taken the “curl” from the braids amazing! There’s absolutely no crunchy!!! It’s soft and looked incredible! After I brushed it out it still looked soft beautiful bouncy!!! Like wow! This product works amazing! I will definitely buy it again it works it’s very useful!!! I didn’t expect much from this gel. I currently use either John Frieda mousse or DevaCurl ArcAnGel when I want a stronger hold. I used this a few times now, and I really like the results. I continue my same routine: wash hair, apply leave-in conditioner and a frizz ease serum, then apply gel. I tried biolage’s gel instead of my own gel. I used just about a quarter sized amount because the gel felt a little heavy. The amount I used was just right and the very next morning (I have my hair air dry in a silk cap overnight) I removed my cap and my hair was so beautiful! It gave the same results as DevaCurl. No residue, either! One thing I don’t like is the cap. It’s a flap really. I think this will definitely replace my DevaCurl gels. It was getting to be very harsh on my highlighted curls (3b/3c) and drying it up at some points. So far I have not seen this happen with Biolage. I also tried this to do a refresh on days where I don’t wash my hair but want to make it look nice and not so frizzy! Comes out great once again. It doesn’t have a strong odor, very faint and you can barely tell there’s any fragrance. Great gel overall – I’d definitely recommend this over DevaCurl products!esther.n

Another pleasantly scented Carol's Daughter product that my hair loves! I like to use the Carol's Daughter Curl Shaping Cream Gel while I'm still in the shower for better absorption. When I am finished rinsing conditioner out of my hair, I will apply the Coco Crème Cream Gel all over my mane. I will scrunch and brush the gel through my hair, starting at the ends and working my way up, to make sure all of my locks get enough cream gel to clump. I will then plop my hair with this product after squeezing out any excess gel (Pro tip: make sure to always wash all products off skin in shower, after styling, to prevent acne). Once I get out of shower, I will then use a boars hair brush and a comb to comb the Carol's Daughter Cream Gel through my hair again before leaving hair down to air dry. It can be used alone this way or even paired with other products for more lasting results, like the Carol's Daughter Coco Crème Curl Perfecting Water Coco Mist to help refresh. Carol's Daughter Curl Shaping Cream Gel will leave behind a soft cast that can be used as a wet look, or combed through for softer waves (though that doesn't work with my hair type so I prefer the first option). It has a pleasant scent and can be refreshed a few times between wash days for lasting results. Can help with controlling edges, though it's not very strong so that would work better for wavy hair. Works on curls, waves, dyed hair, damaged (relaxed or dead ends), natural hair. Gives curls great results: helps add moisture (although you will know it's not a leave-in since it will still have a gel viscosity), shine, definition, clumps curls, fresh scent, reduces frizz. I have never fallen in love with a product like I’ve fallen in love with this one. I use carols daughter quite frequently but I have not heard if this line before and I truly have been missing out! I have 4b/4c hair with a loose and tight curl pattern, when I say this product define my curls to the point where all my curls were the same curl pattern I was shocked beyond measure. Most curl defining creams and gels, make my hair hard, flakey, and crunchy but this not only defined my hair but it was soft, shiny and manageable I was able to pull it up in a ponytail, wear my hair down and just be free with my hair without it being stiff. A little if the product goes a long way and it does very well on wet and dry hair (I prefer wet hair). When applying it to my hair I use a denmen brush to detangle and comb through like any other time which good helps with the process of defining my curls. I’ve tried multiple brands that claimed if defining but nothing comes close to this product and I house highly recommend it to any one with natural hair because this product is just that amazing. When using it my defined curls last a good week before it’s time to rewash my hair again and I think that’s a great time frame.shabria.j
I received this product complementary from Influenster in return for an honest review. Typically I only use gels on my hair after I have already applied another thicker buttery product first. Never would I apply gel to my freshly washed hair because it just sits on top and shrinks, and does not absorb well. This is what I experienced using this gel. The instructions recommended to use on wet hair. Again, when my hair is wet it doesn’t absorb products well but I still made my hair damp enough before applying the gel. The product slipped off my hair quite easily and didn’t really give the curl definition that I’m used to with more thicker butter type products. My hair was still pretty shrunken after using the gel and I got minimal curl definition. I can see this working better on my 3 hair or if someone is custom to doing wash n gos.nkechi.m

This is the best hair gel I've ever tried after many brands off and on over the years. This has a mild scent that fades quickly, it washes out easily and cleanly, and the price is unbeatable. In my case, I have relatively thick straight hair (ginger) and this gel worked well when the hair is cut short. But at medium length ( 6") it does not hold for long. But that is no fault of the hair gel. It really depends on your haircut. I totally recommend this gel, especially at the price.Clay
I really like Pinaud styling gel. They used to carry it in the area that I live, but the stores that used to carry it all stopped carrying it for some reason. There was one barber shop a few miles away that still carried it, but they wanted close to $30 per jar for it. PharmaPacks, LLC makes it so easy to get it now, and their prices are super reasonable. I see no reason anymore to leave the house (just to be disappointed to find that the store decided to stop carrying what you were looking for) to buy grooming goods anymore.leverlover6
