Best Roomba For Hardwood Floors And Pet Hair (2025 Update)

I bought this in 2018. It has worked less than half the time since then. I am constantly trouble shooting issues. Currently have an error 11 that I cannot seem to resolve and of course it now recommends purchasing another battery. The replacement parts have already cost a fortune to keep the thing running as little as it does and the new battery they want me to purchase is $100. Not really Inclined to spend more money trying to keep this thing running. The small amount of time it actually worked it did an ok job. Never really seemed to learn the patterns of the house and was super loud running Into everything. I had much bigger hopes than it delivered.Amy is disenchanted

So, as of this date I've tried: AnotherBrandE30; Roomba e6; Roomba 985; and Roomba i7. This Roomba e6 is the surprising winner! Frankly, Lil Bubba bounces around in an annoyingly random manner — but man he sucks up the dirt! Better than the 985, and the i7 so far as I can see. Here's the challenge: average sized home, three *curses* carpeted bedrooms. Rest of home is tile or hardwood. A long history of being owned by animals (four-legged, domesticated type). Essentially, a giant petri dish of year-round allergens. Roomba e6: Simple, hardest-working, effective. Yes, he lacks a rational mapping program. So, yes, he will bounce around seemingly randomly, to clean the space. I will say in his defense that when he finds a wall or senses an edge, he will run along it, and follow for example, a tight turn around furniture legs, etc. So there is some "logic" of a kind. But this guy is sturdy which is why I love him so. He has *never* registered "dirty sensors,* he keeps ploughing through even when his little wheels are all wrapped up in pet hair (do clean them regularly!), and never gets lost or stuck anywhere. He just works hard, returns home and docks himself. No fanfare — I LOVE MY LIL BUBBA! He cleans like a mother-on-a-mission! The first time I ran him through the master it took only ten minutes for his bin to fill (head bowed in shame). There was pet hair in there that must have been left by two pet-generations ago! He just kept at it. Keep in mind, this carpet had been "cleaned" by conventional vacuums prior to buying these irobots! Ten runs later, he had cleaned down to the underlay for the full hour! But here's the thing — because he lacks a mapping program, he works best if contained in a specific space. So, set up the sensors to keep him confined to one room at a time and he'll be fine. Probably not as effective to give him full run of the house. Did I mention I LOVE him? Lil Bubba's suck-power seems way greater (at "5x!") than the i7 (at "10x!") power.OwnedByCritters

For the price, this is a good entry-level robotic vacuum. It's not a good option if you're hoping for a deep clean, and it will never get into the tightest crevasses, but for a daily sweep or spot clean it is actually pretty handy. You can set it and forget it when heading out for work or let it loose in a specific room. It's noisy on bare floors but reasonably quiet on carpets. The rollers and dust bin must be cleaned out regularly, but it does get under beds and couches, which I appreciate a lot – less bending for me. If you have an open concept home you may wish to purchase "virtual wall" room dividers from iRobot to keep the Roomba constrained to specific areas (available online). At the end of the day, it's kind of like owning a blind, rather stupid dog that runs into furniture constantly while scarfing up crumbs and dust bunnies. We named ours Poltergust 3000.TFrancois

I gave my two year old roomba to my daughter and bought this one to replace it. I ran my older roomba twice over my house then ran the new roomba. The new roomba's bin was half full which prooved this model cleans better. It was very easy to set up and is controlled by an app. I've ran this roomba for some time now and I am 100% satified. I read some reviews that this roomba had problems finding the home station but I have not experienced that. I would highly recommend this roomba.mcqueenslm

The Shark. AIROBOT ROBOT VACUUM 2000 SERIES came well packaged yet easy to unpackage and set up. Following the Quick Start Guide I Set up the docking station and charged the unit. Product instructions display setting the docking station, in a permanent location, with a strong Wi-Fi signal, against the wall, 3 feet of clear space from both sides of the docking station, and 5 feet of clear space out to the front of the docking station. It was not easy finding a space with this type of clear space in our home. I did speak with a couple of people that set their Shark Robot Vacuums up in less open space and their robot vacuums did fine. Downloading the app on my phone (android) and on a Chromebook was fast and easy. Connecting to our Wi-Fi was quick. You will have to connect using your 2.4 GHz band, 5 GHz will not work for the Shark app. Had trouble starting out with what is called “Exploring”. This is where the Shark AIROBOT explores your floor space and sets up a map for vacuuming. The app showed the vacuum was ready to start exploring however the vacuum would back off the charging unit, make a couple of circles, then return to the docking station. After allowing the AIROBOT to charge longer I attempted the exploring process and the vacuum finally backed off the docking station and began exploring. Very interesting to watch the Shark AIROBOT go through the process of exploring. I had to re-explore 3 times to get a map that I was happy with, so be patient. Raise up or remove any electrical wiring off the floor during the exploring process. The AIROBOT did get hung up on one large extension cord, I will try one of the floor cord covers. Once the vacuum has completed the exploring process it will give you the opportunity to accept the mapping or re-explore. The Shark AIROBOT did a good job vacuuming the floors. The exploring procedure is totally different from the vacuuming process. The exploring process does not take long and appears to travel all over the house erratically. When vacuuming it will take longer as it is covering the entire floor areas thoroughly and generally in a better organized manner. The ability to target rooms or specific areas is a very cool option. Open the Shark app, pick the area/zone you would prefer to vacuum, press the CLEAN button on your phone or tablet, and off goes your Shark AIROBOT vacuum to clean; you can press the CLEAN button on the top of the Shark AIROBOT vacuum also. The AIROBOT did vacuum one room a couple of times, completely, before it finally exited that room and moved on. Judging total time to vacuum our home will not be accurate for the first complete vacuuming session. Our home is 1385 sq. ft., and it took 118 minutes, with 20% battery remaining after completion, not sure if the Shark AIROBOT vacuumed the entire home and it did vacuum one room twice and I believe it missed one room. Not sure if the Shark AIROBOT finished vacuuming or went back to the docking station to re-charge. A lot of bumping into items or walls hard, hard enough to move lighter items. It will also take some time for the Shark AIROBOT to adjust and move away from objects, such as closed doors or low furniture, where it cannot access. Cleans some areas multiple times and it appears to be the same areas each vacuuming session. The spot cleaning feature is sufficient. You cannot adjust the size of the area to be spot cleaned and you cannot change the vacuum strength mode, UltraClean only. You move the approximately 7-foot square to the area you would like to spot clean. The Shark app, like many apps, has limitations, and I found some processes would not work as stated. I was attempting to merge two small areas and the app would not allow me to do so, not the end of the world, however the app should allow me to merge the two open areas, they were designated areas adjoining one and other. The area of concern is a small hallway that is broken into 3 designated areas, and I cannot merge them into one. The final mapping, that I accepted, has 10 areas. The kitchen and the laundry room came up as one zone even though there is a doorway. Part of the hallway is part of the living room zone, and the remaining part of the hallway is separated into two zones. The remainder of the rooms mapped out nicely. UPDATE: After enlarging the map on my Chromebook I was able to merge the areas I was concerned with. The AIROBOT app has a “Find Robot” feature, when pressed the vacuum will emit tones, the tones are not very loud at 100% volume. It would be a nice feature if you were able to move the docking station without having to re-map your home. I want to move the docking station however it took 4 mapping (exploring) events to get a good mapping of our home, so I chose not to move the docking station, yet. The Shark AIROBOT has 3 vacuum modes which is very nice, along with Scheduling, No-Go Zones, Go Zones, Room Select, and more. I would recommend the Shark AIROBOT 2000 series vacuum. Pros: — Great navigation skills — Comprehensive app provides lots of control — Easy setup Cons: — Weak cleaning ability — Short running time — Long charging time The success or failure of any robot vac hinges on its ability to navigate with the least amount of human assistance possible. By that measure, this new Shark AI robot vac is among the best out there. I have used three or four different devices of this type over the years this one has the potential, at least, to be the best at finding its way around your house without you doing a lot of prep work first. Those who already own one of these know what I am talking about. Older, less intelligent models could easily get lost or hung up in a wide variety of ways, ranging from getting tangled in electrical cords to simply getting boxed into some tight area, or caught up on some threshold, and not being able to figure out how to escape. Thanks to Sharks' new AI laser navigation system, which allows the vac to actually "see" obstacles as opposed to blindly bumping their way around them, this vac has a much easier time finding its way around. In fact, before you can even use it, you must turn it lose to "explore" your house first . It's really a mapping mission to give the vac a rough idea of the shape of the rooms it must vac. And where the obstacles are. The end result, hopefully, is a map that shows up in the vac's essential sidekick, the new Shark Clean app. I said "hopefully" because my vac's attempt at doing this resulted in map that looked nothing like the footprint of my home. I am not sure why, but I had more success the second time around. Once you have an accurate map, the app gives you lots of choices about what to do next. You can clean the whole house, just one room, or a combination of rooms of your choice. You can also block out "no-go" areas or designate certain areas for extra cleaning. You even tell it to spot clean a specific area. And of course you can schedule the vac run to run whenever you want. That said, the new Shark AI, is still not smart enough to just turn it loose and forget about it. Sadly, it I can still get tangled up in electric cords, and still get hung up on low obstacles (less than 2 inches high) because it cannot see them. But it is better at navigation than any other robot vac I have tried. Setup is easy too. Just pop on the two rotating "cat whiskers," put in on the charger (make sure the blue light is on to indicate it is actually charging) and download the Shark Clean app. Then follow the instructions. In actual use, I found the vac a little schizophrenic at times. It would start to clean one area, then return to an area already cleaned for no apparent reason, and then return to the first area to complete that room. Very inefficient and somewhat puzzling, given its clearly superior mapping capabilites. In the end, these vacs are only as good as the programming and it appears that this one still needs some work. Hopefully there will be future firmware updates to correct these deficiences and improve efficiency. Another big disappointment is the vac's cleaning chops, which frankly are not that good. In normal setting (default) , suction seems quite weak, with vac unable to pick up anything heavier than light debris and pet hair. It left behind objects as small as a grain of cat litter in some case, even on bare floors. You can set the vac to run at a higher power cleaning mode. But that burns more battery power, another big shortcoming. It does not run very long on a charge — about 30 minutes — so most users probably will find they have to run the vac through at least two charging cycles to do their entire home. Even worse, charging times are agonizingly slow, up to six hours per charge. (The vac does return to its charging stand automatically, when needed) As for cleanup, well there is no auto-empty function with this one (although Shark does sell some models that do that). So you must manually empty the dirt cup and clean the filter after each cycle. The filter IS washable at least so you should not have to replace it often, But Shark recommends new brushes every six to 12 months. The bottom line here is this new Shark Vac has a lot of potential that is not yet fully realized. The hardware for state of the art naviagtion is built in but the programming is still a work in progress, it appears, which leaves the vac a lot less efficient than it should be.Daytonadan

I must admit I was a bit disappointed in this newest version of the Shark Robot vacuum compared to several other Shark Robot vacuums I have owned in the past. But I've come to like it – for the most part. The most unique quality this Shark Robot has over my previous Robot vacuums is the navigation and mapping out of your home's floor plan. It took me 4 tries to get the floor plan correct – it seems to be very, very dependent on where you locate the base station. Having the base station in any kind of 'tight area' and you'll get a very small floor plan. I moved the base station to our dining room under a large wine hutch and it mapped out the floor plan much better. I also added a couple of high traffic zones which helped a lot (kitchen and entryway) The cleaning power of this Robot Vacuum is very impressive, especially when you run it in "UTLRACLEAN" mode – which does chew up the battery faster than regular "CLEAN" but it is worth it. This Robot Vacuum has a better capability than others to handle multiple floor types – we have mostly tile and wood floors, with a few chunky throw rugs and it did a fine job navigating around once the floorpan was defined well. Overall, I would recommend this vacuum to anyone looking for a decently priced, relatively smart, robot vacuum. The floor plan issues were eventually solved – so give it a chance.Winger81

This is my first robot vacuum and I’m very mixed on my opinion. On one hand, it seems to have great build quality, great suction, and cleans the room well. On the other, using this vacuum seems to be a lot more work that my primary traditional vacuum (also a Shark, which I love). The first thing that got me after opening the box was that it recommends That you have and area with 3 feet on each side of the base station, and 5 feet in front unobstructed for the permanent setup. I don’t have anywhere in my 2100 sq ft. house where that would work, and if I did, it would be a focal point of whatever room it was in. I did find a place with about half the recommended space, and it seems to be working fine, but one of my hopes for a robot vacuum was that it could be tucked away out of site behind a chair. The setup with the app was extremely easy and problem free. The vacuum does a great job of cleaning, but it takes a long time to complete the 400 square foot area I have it in. You also need to have the lights on when it runs. I have kids who tend to leave toys around, or even may enter the room and drop something during the 45 minutes it takes to complete the room. You need to make sure the room is completely free of obstructions, because it will just drive right over things like board games or cars if they are left out. It does do a good job of getting unstuck if it gets hung up on something. I really wanted to love this device, but I find it is just so much easier and convenient to use my regular vacuum that takes up 1’x1’ in the closet and can finish the whole room in 1/10th the time.Jlschle

I purchased this Shark EZ Robot vacuum during the Black Friday promotion. Wal-Mart offered a great price, and it had features I was excited to try, as this is my first purchase of a robot vacuum. I’ll begin my review with the good features: the vacuum does vacuum in straight rows. The suction/ cleaning ability seems overall pretty good on its first cleaning run in my home today. It’s not too noisy, which is a nice feature. And now, the negative features: the battery life on this Shark EZ Robot is terrible. I’m uncertain if I got a bad unit, or if this is common with this brand. And today is the first day of use after charging for 24 hours. I purchased this Shark EZ Robot vacuum for the 2nd floor of my home, and after vacuuming three bedrooms (closets closed) the unit went back to recharge on its base, and it’s having trouble coming up to full charge. When it tells me it’s “ready to clean” it just goes back and re-vacuums the main bedroom the unit is stored in, and then needs additional time for charging. Basically, I set a cleaning time of 1 pm today- it’s now 7:35 pm, and the master bedroom and half the hallway haven’t been vacuumed- due to poor battery life and the unit re-vacuuming the room it’s stored in, rather than beginning at the point it stopped, and finishing the “clean.” Super, super frustrating. My honest opinion would be to avoid this unit unless you have a very small area that this vacuum cleans before needing to travel back to its base to re-charge. I was so very excited to own this, but will be returning to the store.TeenBoyMom

The Self Empty Shark Ez Robot is very useful. I love that I am now a little at ease about crumbs being everywhere and happy I have a good strong Robot to help me in my cleaning needs. I am a person if I see crumbs it bugs me and I need them picked up and I always feel like when I sweep the little crumbs are still left behind. This Robot is so helpful and strong pick up in this case. There's good Suction and you are allowed to choose a strength level I do normal and max mostly if I just swept then I may just do a simple sweep with the robot. So the Max is good suction and I find it better on carpet and the floors when you haven't swept it does good on max to get the good pick up. Normal strength I do if I swept in the day and want a clean up or just in a normal situation it does great. I also have pets and so little crumbs with there food happens and even small dust of cat littler. The robot did great on pick up. I love the fact that it has a 30 day small bucket system before I need to empty saves me time. I was actually really shocked when I did empty the bucket I think I do a pretty good job sweeping and mopping, but I got lots of the dust and debris and hair pick up from the robot vacuum. I was shocked because I have 2 cats and it still did nicely on picking up everything in general. This Vacuum is easy to use and the App is great as I can do everything on my phone and customise it how I want. On the App you can do many things and see history and reports and time it how you want it to run. You can even do a schedule which is great for all situations a busy person or simple just a regular routine. This ez robot vacuum is so easy to maintenance and understand its great. Good owners guide and fast quick start guide. Simple to get started and easy to empty. I am in love with my little helper and it really does help us people who really need a clean space or comfort in knowing the floors are clean. This vacuum is a lifesaver. I have both dogs and cats. They shed and fur collects in all the difficult to reach places. The roomba goes under the beds and sofas, around each chair leg and over the carpets. I no longer have to move furniture. With daily use, the roomba only needs to be emptied once each cleaning. I absolutely love this Roomba! I set a schedule and it comes on and cleans without me worrying about starting it. It actually cleans a lot better than I thought I empty the tray every 2 days. I used to have to drag out the vacume every day to clean up mud and dirt my husband brings in on his shoes, but now Roomba does that for me! The only drawback is that it doesn't have a certain pattern it goes in. It may go in a room 10 timbers before it gets it clean. Occasionally it misses spots because of it. The robot goes around in circles within a 4-6 feet area. I need to be pushing or stopping and placing in another location for it to clean another area within the same room. It is making me waste more time than if I was actually using a regular vacuum cleaner. I have had iRobot Roombas before and this is the first time I experience this issue. I don't know why people are claiming that this robot marks walls it comes close but does not touch them in fact if it sees a object it slows down till it maneuvers around it. Everything advertised it does and does excellent. The app is very easy to use. People complain about the app but I think they are using cheap phones or tablets. I honestly have nothing negative to say about this unit, I watched tests between roombas and eufys and all the the robot vacuums that could self empty at twice to three times the shark was nothing is close. The main thing was all the other company's use Vslam and cameras for guidance they can not see in the dark and basically go in random action like a bump and go toy, Not this Shark that uses lidar which is a invisible rotating Laser for guidance it is perfect and works even in the dark. I had to laugh roombas latest self empty has a white spotlight led mounted above its camera so it can clean without bright sun or the lights on. So you can pay 1400.00 for the vslam spotlight robot or 500.00 for the shark and have 3yr vip warranty with latest tech and row by row cleaning, and individual room cleaning. I also want to point out that after it does a room row by row when it finishes that it goes all the way back around the border of that room. Suction power is excellent on max, but you can choose between eco, norm and max in the app. You can choose to have it go back to empty every 30 minutes and it will go right back where it left off. I never have had it not find the base or had to go find it. I know it can be frustrating when trying to decide on which robot vacuum to buy. Do yourself a favor and buy one if you don't like it they have a 90 Day return policy and the customer service is awesome and they do care.Speedracer

I was so excited to set up and start using my Shark AV2511AE AI Robot Vacuum with XL Self-Empty Base and I was not disappointed. It was easy to set up and charged pretty quickly. It was very easy to download the app and get the Shark working. The Shark will first map your space so it knows where to go each time it cleans. You can set up the Shark to clean on a schedule or you can tell it when to clean using the app. You can even send it out to spot-clean a small area if need be. When the Shark is full, it will automatically return to the base and empty itself in the base. Supposedly you can go 60 days without emptying the base. However, I have three children and a large dog and I do not believe that we can go that long without emptying the tank in the base. Even still, this is so much more convenient than my old robotic vacuum that I had to empty with each use, and often before it was finished vacuuming. Emptying the tank on the base is a breeze. The app will notify you if there is a problem with the Shark, for example, if it gets stuck on an uneven surface, or if something gets caught in the beater bar. There is also a function on the app to locate the Shark if it gets "lost" under a piece of furniture or something, but I have not had to use this function. Of course, the Shark will work best if your house is not cluttered and the floor is thoroughly clear of items such as toys or shoes. It moves easily from my hardwood floors onto my shag rug, and it's relatively quiet. The only con I can think of is that the base needs to be set up in an area with three feet of clearance on all sides. My house is not large and this really limits where we can put the base, but if you have a large house with a lot of open space this won't be an issue. It won't take the place of my regular vacuum for deep cleaning and corner cleaning but overall my house is so much cleaner with the Shark making its rounds regularly. I have owned this Shark for about 6 weeks now. This is kind of a mixed review, as there are some things I like, and some that need lots of improvement…. Starting with the likes.. The Shark is really good when it comes to cleaning, and lack of work I now have to do. I was able to map my house pretty easily, and she remembers everything (I think!). When she goes out to clean, she always does a thorough job, and everything looks clean. I haven’t had any issues with scratched baseboards or furniture – she does bump into things here and there, but no damages or anything. For the way she cleans, and the easiness of having her clean, I would give her a 5-star review……. But that leads me to the dislikes (it’s really one major dislike – but it really ruins everything about the machine)…. The App sucks – mostly when it comes to connecting to, and staying connected to the machine. I have a very strong internet signal at my house, and rarely have issues with any internet-connected items I have. This robot, however, just does not stay connected, and there really isn’t any easy way to simply reconnect (at least none that I can find). You have to go in through the App, and delete the machine, and then re-add it in order to re-connect to the internet. It wouldn’t be too bad if this happened periodically, but it’s everyday – and now, I just don’t bother anymore, I just hit the clean button to have her do her work! If it was just the App, and connection issues, I would make this review a 0-star! But the 2 issues put together give it my 3-star rating……. I plan to purchase another machine in the near future, but not sure if I will go with Shark again, as I really like the internet connectivity features – they are pretty important to me…. Doesn't vacuum in any organized fashion whatsoever….basically goes all over the place, like it's drunk. Unfortunately, it also goes over the same spots a few times but leaves some spots untouched. I still have to take out my regular vacuum for those and for the carpet (which I knew it doesn't vacuum carpets). It saves me a bit of time I guess because while it vacuums like a drunken sailor, I can do something else and when it's done, I go over what it did and finish with the carpet. Wherever it DOES vacuum, it does a good job and picks up everything, so that's a plus for sure. Good thing it wasn't more than I paid though – not sure yet if I regret this purchase.Adela

One Year since purchase of our RV1101 (the 2502's previous generation model). I am completely satisfied with our Shark AI self emptying vacuum! 2 Labradors and a cat in our 2400sq foot home ensure that it has plenty of hair and dirt to contend with and it accomplishes its duties admirably. While the literature indicates "Up to 30 days" between emptying the base dirt receptacle, under these conditions that is a ridiculous expectation! Empty it daily until you determine for yourself how long it takes to fill it based on your actual home cleaning requirements if you have pet's in your home! That said, this is an incredibly good tool for keeping a home as clean as possible when shedding dogs are a part of your life. Other than emptying the dust bin every 1-2 days, it only requires washing the foam base filter once weekly and thoroughly cleaning the robot and base including vacuuming out the filters every 2-4 weeks. A truly minimal amount of time and effort required for a remarkable result. Getting "stuck" is a very rare occurrence if you follow the instructions for preparing your home. The "Empty and Resume" and "Recharge and Resume" features are what enable the Shark robot to accomplish it's duties in a home this size, Every day it's full cycle runs for over 4 hours to fully clean our home including 4 clean and dump cycles and a full recharge cycle (2 hours) after the 2nd dump following the first hour of operation. This includes the time it spends "Going Back" to clean any area where it expects to clean but may have been prevented from doing so on it's first attempt due to being obstructed by frequently moved furniture or a lazy old dog that refuses to move for "that pesky robot" (yes the old dog will just lay there despite being bumped repeatedly). As soon as I received the Shark AI Robot Vacuum I wanted to set it up immediately in our open concept kitchen, dining and living area. All laminate flooring. I thought that the set-up might be a bit complicated for me but Shark has made the set-up and operation of this vacuum very user freindly. Even before opening the box, I was able to take my smart phone and scan the QRCode on the outside of the box and download the app. Step by step instructions guide you through the vaccum set-up process. (The most complicated task I had to do was go to my internet provider's app and enable the 2.4Ghz setting on our router, which is required for the Wifi connection) The set-up process includes sending the robot vacuum out for a mapping of the area to be cleaned. I was amazed that after just about 10 minutes the entire area was mapped out. Afterwards, I went to the app to look at the map and saw an accurate representation of my rooms, down to the footprint of a column seperating the rooms. The schedule tool allows for scheduling the vacuum to run whatever time, whatever day and however many days a week. It also records a history of those past scheduled cleanings and represents on the map the areas cleaned. I am definitely using the Ultraclean feature of the vacuum. This feature enables highlighting on the map, heavy traffic areas, or in our case the areas of the floor in front of the sink, around the island and the area in front of the stairs. The vacuum spends extra time cleaning these areas during the scheduled cleanings. I have also taken advantage of the spot cleaning feature. This feature enables you to highlight a spot on the map and have the vaccum clean only that spot without the vacuum doing an entire cleaning. After any cleaning that vacuum performs , the vacuum returns to the self empty base. Quite honestly, this Shark robot vacuum has too many features to list here in my review. The technology packed into this vacuum is amazing. Shark has developed an app that has all the support anyone could need. There is a printed instruction manual for viewing, there are seven videos available for viewing and there is the Shark Customer Care support available by phone. My ex-roommates used to have a eufy 35C robot vacuum, and I must say it kept a very neat apartment for us in the context that my roommates had two long hair cats. Lately, I moved to a bigger townhouse and got a cute British shorthair of my own finally. To make my life easier, I firstly bought a Roborock S6 pure because it had a decent discount. However, it didn't work so well on cleaning the hair as I expected. Moreover, it gets stuck by the circular bases of my floor lamp and bars stools all the time, which is quite annoying. Meanwhile, I found Eufy just released a new robot vacuum and I was thinking how about give it a try since the Roborock is still within the duration of free return. It turns out to be a very wise decision. The new Eufy X8 hybrid can have an almost full dustbin even though the floor was just cleaned by Roborock, which is very impressive. In addition, this guy got a smooth move and has good obstacle avoidance ability. Even my friend (who is still a student driver) admits her turning skill is not as good as the robot. Also, the complex terrain is not a problem anymore. It can get over those round bases very easily. It does have a bit louder noise (due to its dual turbines I suppose) and is pricier than Roborock S6 pure though, I think it perfectly fits my needs as a vacuum robot helper and a good friend of my kitty. All in all, I give 5 stars for this purchase and will recommend it to all my pets' parents friends.Luke

There is much to like about this vacuum, including its map-building and no-go zones, as well as how much it sucks (hehe, never heard that one before I bet). You can adjust the suction power and intelligence in the app. It's quite a bit louder when you put it on max or do a spot clean. All that said, for my apartment, the mop function just feels useless. The mop is always in contact with the floor, with no retraction or shielding mechanism. Combine that with the fact that the base station only makes sense to place in a carpeted area in my apartment, and if I place the vacuum manually, it has to position itself, which can involve going up on the carpet, and the end result is that I have to manually intervene quite a bit to ensure it doesn't sully the carpet with the mop. That's even with the no-go zones since it doesn't seem to know where to go or not go until it positions itself. And of course we're doing all this work for what amounts to a rag attached to the bottom of the vacuum to be dragged around. Given how involved it all is, and how small of an area I have to mop, I'd rather just wipe up manually as spills happen. But I still give the device 4-5 stars across its categories because I didn't buy it for the mop. I figured that part wouldn't be of much use to me. I bought this because the discounts currently being offered actually made the X8 Hybrid cheaper than the plain X8. Anyway, good little vacuum overall!Dibbs

I was skeptical that a battery powered vacuum could get results similar to a regular corded vac. I was right. It picks up surface stuff fairly well but is no substitute for a real vacuum. Having said that, we do find it very useful for cleaning up pet hair. We leave it to run in a room when we are gone and the receptacle has a good amount of dist and hair in it. It keeps the carpet a little cleaner between vacuuming. The sweeping pattern is totally random and it tends to stay in one spot for a long time before moving on. When it encounters an obstacle it does an almost full turn and collides with the same object. If you leave it in one small room. block off the areas under dressers and such that it tends to get lodged under, it's handy enough. Our side sweeper brush motor burned out after four months and I read that it should be taken out and cleaned regularly. This is not mentioned in the instructions. For this much money you can buy a mid-range upright which I would recommendSteveC

I love this Shark IQ Self emptying Robot Vacuum! It extra large capacity. The dust bin takes weeks before it requires emptying. There is a charging indicator light on the front along with the camera feature. There is a bumper that offers protection. The voice feature is very handy for when the vacuum gets in a bind. The no tangle feature is not one hundred percent accurate however in comparison to other vacuums it doesn’t get as tangled with my curly hair. I do notice that large debris doesn’t suction in the emptying can fully. The brushes are withstanding quite well even after a month of use. The direct aim while in use is very accurate. The charge time is pretty standard. The cliff sensors are accurate as well. This vacuum does run very loud while in use so be warned if you put the baby to sleep not to run it then, it is not the smoothest sounding vacuum. The charging station and ports is fully functional and is going strong. One huge advantage it the dust bin is a bag less system and that is very economical. I do empty the dust bin weekly instead of weeks. Overall I am truly loving this robot vacuum.Mommydaddy777

In being the first robotic vacuum used in our house, we are amazed with the functionalities of the Shark IQ Robot Vacuum. The product itself is easy to assemble and instructions are clear. I am able to access features through my phone app and Alexa. It's also helpful to see the cleaning reports come through. I really like how the machine works with both carpet, tile and wooden floors, as my house is a mixture of all. The cleaning capacity of the robot vacuum is amazing, especially since living in a household of a toddler, children and pets, and endless dirt and crumbs scattered around. The only thing is that I usually have to run it while we are away, as my toddler loves to get up close and personal with the vacuum. The vacuum conveniently goes back to its base when needing a charge and doesn't need emptied for over a month. I was a bit concerned before using on how the vacuum would function in my house with lots of furniture, but the mapping system helps it to maneuver around things in its way. I LOVE this robot vacuum so far! First of all, it is a super high quality product! They use only the best materials to make it! It is also very durable, which is important with this kind of product! None of the components get damaged even when the robot vacuum runs into things! This product comes with both the robot vacuum and the base! You will need the Shark app to be able to control the vacuum, so you will need a smart phone. But getting the app is super easy. Once you get the app downloaded, you can sync it with the vacuum and have the vacuum map out your home! It is really, really cool! I love that you can also use the magnetic strips that it comes with to block off rooms you don't want the vacuum to go into. If it senses the strips, it will not go into that room. I really, really like the self emptying feature! Once the vacuum gets full, it automatically finds its way back to the base and empties itself! This is VERY useful, so I don't have to empty it every time I use it! And, the base can hold a lot so you don't have to empty it every single day either! The rollers on the bottom of the vacuum are easy to clean as well and you will be alerted on your phone if something gets stuck! It's just a really, really nice robot vacuum! This is my second Roomba, I also have an i8 for the upstairs. After replacing my 2nd generation Roomba with the i8, I was very impressed with the hardware and software improvements. I especially liked the Roomba app and the i8's map feature where it creates a map of your home that the user can then insert boundaries used to define and name rooms, which then allows for custom vacuum schedules. So when I saw the i4 offered at Costco, it provided an reasonable solution for my downstairs guest area that is a low use area. I review the online product information and it stated "I4 Navigates and Maps Your Home in Neat Rows to Vacuum Hardwood and Carpet" which led me to conclude that it offered the mapping features like the i8. However, the reality is that while it may be mapping to guide the unit to vacuum with "neat rows" it does not offer these maps for user the customize and program as the i8 did even though they use the same app for both units. The wording used to describe this feature is misleading as it failed to specify that the mapping feature is unlike their other products but rather implied that it is a common feature across platforms. I do love the Roomba products as they really help to keep up with vacuuming, especially if you are a pet owner. I am just a bit disappointed as I had expected to use the map utility to better schedule my downstairs needs which didn't work out.Steve

Like other comments that I read, this irobot is so disappointing as it is advertised to map the house. I moved to a condo and my son bought me this robot. I was hesitant about robot based on comments but thought the new models are better over the years. What I found is that it does turnaround when hitting obstacle but keep checking around the area and can spend the whole 15 minutes in the same area. It also skips spots and not really go in a zigzag pattern as advertised. The route is so random that I cannot tell how it maps the whole condo. I doubt it can clean the condo thoroughly. These things are so expensive that I paid over $600 for it. I can clean the whole condo in 20 minutes with a Shark stick. I just feel sorry for my son spending the money for no use.Doris

 I don’t need to move my mats off the floor in the kitchen or the bathroom, pick my shoes up off the floor if I don’t want to or that shirt sitting over in the corner, I don’t have to worry it’s going to get stuck under at the bed because it does a great job navigating whatever it is under the bed and not only does it do a great job it identifies by taking a picture of whatever item is under there, and with a percentage of certainty it can assess what that item is not always great by does a pretty darn good job. It is by far, as other reviewers have noted, leaps and bounds …. ARTEMIS SIZE… GALACTICLY SUPERIOR to ANY other vacuum. And then, to add an amazing mop that is utilized simultaneously with the vacuuming feature, and the ability to customize from a light mop job to a extra duty session— YESSSSS nailed it in execution, nailed it in design, and nailed it in understanding the deficiencies of the current technologies on the market, and then bring the technology market 🙂 Summarized, and in general, I have been pretty darn critical of most of them tech purchases in the past 10 years because of shifty retailers, manufactures, ad campaigns, all implying, amazing features and benefits that blend into a disappointment and waste. And then, of course, there are the glaring issues, confronting consumers in the marketplace by way of the retailers, not Best Buy that don’t care about the customer enough to mandate that pro product descriptions are actually in English enough to understand but to me that basically means that a manufacture doesn’t really care about the American consumer at all because if they did, they would find somebody who speaks English enough to write a manual for whatever product and to write print and advertise that product in a way that respects the customer and doesn’t make them have to read between the lines or reword, poor grammatical errors, because of a lack of regard that upsets me more than anything so I’m very glad to have retailers that are still around like Best Buy where I know specifications for a product are going to be the specs for the product. You know this industry segment is still very young when the best robot vacuum by far which is this S7 MaxV Ultra has quite a few areas to improve on but all in all. I LOVE IT! This is advanced AI coupled with top level engineering at its finest for robot vacuum cleaners. At this point, Roborock is Roborock's biggest competitor – however, there's def room for improvement. Below is everything the bot does really well that are selling points. For the "Needs to improve" I'll indicate whether these are software fixes or hardware changes which means you'd have to wait for the next version and hope the changes are built in as part of the bots physical hardware component. Best Features – Intuitive UI & navigation software packed with useful features (3D map, 2 way calling, etc) – Ability to auto fill bot with water, auto empty dustbin and wash mop – Great battery life (my experience) – On board video camera to see where bot is cleaning – Carpet detection feature with mop auto lift – AI obstacle recognition, avoidance & tagging – Room recognition with machine learning capabilities. – Various cleaning configuration settings Needs to improve – Show water levels in app (hardware fix) – Increased suction doesn't do much for carpets. Still misses threads and small particles from time to time. I was a little hesitant to make such a large purchase on a vacuum, but since I received this at a promotional cost, compliments of iRobot, I decided to make the purchase. I must say the Roomba cleans very well and takes the thought and effort out of cleaning. I will note though, that it is a very good idea to walk through your house, before the Roomba cleans, in order to move objects out of its way or off the floor, i.e. shoes, pet toys, cords to lamps, etc. Especially helpful since I did not vacuum every week, and it sure is wonderful to have crumb & debris free tile floor throughout my house. I have many things to review: (1) Because I have such an open floor plan with my living room, kitchen and dining room, the two lanterns/lighthouses come in superbly handy to contain the Roomba to a smaller area and once it's finished, I move it to the next area. I usually divide my large open space in half with the lanterns. Once it finishes the entire house, it returns to the docking station on its own. (2) the Roomba maneuvers very well around furniture and up onto our heavy pile area rugs. I have yet to see it get stuck where I had to manually move the Roomba. This is a necessity if you're going to auto schedule your cleaning during hours that you are not home. I have noticed the Roomba has a few scratches on top after 5 or 6 uses from rubbing under furniture, but the furniture is not damaged. (3) At first, our cat didn't know what to make of this thing. He would stare it down like it was an alien. After a few uses, he could care less. He's even been sitting in the living room looking out the sliding glass door and the Roomba came up and bumped him in the butt, he turned around with a careless look on his face and went about his usual business. However, the Roomba does move his food & water bowl, but that's a small price to pay for what this vacuum does. Also, my cat has a few toys that contain strings and the Roomba catches these items in the rollers and jams, so it's important to move all these items from the floor. (4) I have shoulder length hair and find that the Roomba often needs its roller brushes cleaned out to remove hair. This is probably my only gripe about this product, hence the 4 stars, since I set the auto cleaning feature and on more than once occasion I have found the Roomba stopped in a room with the error light blinking because the rollers needed cleaning to remove debris (aka hair). (5) I am amazed at the amount of cat hair this things picks up throughout the house. I was shocked & disgusted at the thought that I was living in such filth on my tile and area rugs. (6) I have read about people complaining that the Roomba is very noisy. I don't think it's anywhere nearly as loud as a regular vacuum, especially when its running on carpet. Overall, I am very happy with this purchase. While I would not say this is the end all be all of vacuuming, I think it definitely helps keep my house clean and dramatically reduces the need for me to to manually run a vacuum. I live in a split level house with quite a bit of floor space to cover. Upstairs, I have a carpeted living room, hallway, and two bedrooms, as well as linoleum and rugs in my kitchen, dining room, and two bathrooms. Downstairs, I have a large carpeted den area that is divided by a couch into a movie/exercise area and a play area. Then there is a carpeted hallway, two carpeted bedrooms, a bathroom with linoleum and rugs, as well as a utility room that has linoleum flooring. Each bedroom has a bed (and there is some stuff under the bed in roll away totes), and I have a lot of furniture. I figured this Roomba will have a lot of navigating to do to get under/around everything and was hoping it would be able to transition from carpet to linoleum and back easily without getting stuck. I have a 5 year old son, who certainly isn't shy about making a mess, be it dropping food in the kitchen (and living room), or bringing in sand/dirt from outside. He is always playing with Legos, and leaving them in the carpet, so I was interested in seeing how the Roomba will handle any little blocks that get left behind and was hoping I would be able to pick through the bin to avoid any block losses. I don't have pets, so pet hair isn't a problem in my house. I, myself do have long hair that sheds plenty, and it drives me bananas to walk on the carpet and catch a hair on my toe and to see hair on my bathroom floor. My son also has allergies, so cutting down on dust in the home would be beneficial to him, as well. I don't have a lot of time to vacuum, or clean in general, so I was excited to be able to try a Roomba. My house usually gets a fairly decent vacuuming once a month with my upright vacuum. I know that it is recommended to vacuum weekly at a minimum, but I work full time and with all of the activities going on, I don't have the time or energy to do it that often. I have been wanting to try a Roomba, or some robotic vacuum cleaner, for quite some time, but the cost and seeing some less-than-perfect reviews were holding me back. I was given the chance to get the Roomba 870 at a discount in order to test out the product for Bzzagent, so I felt this was the perfect opportunity. First, when purchasing the Roomba, I was a bit unhappy to see how frequently some of the parts should be replaced (filters every 2 months, extractors every 6 months, etc.), but those parts were fairly inexpensive, so I was less upset after seeing that. I ordered a few filters, side brushes and extractor replacement at the same time that I ordered the machine, so I would have some on hand. The unit does come with one extra filter, so that is also nice. A home base and virtual walls are also included. One thing that was a little disappointing is that the virtual wall only goes up to 7 feet. I have a large open area going from my living room to my dining room/kitchen that is probably about 15 feet, so I can't block the Roomba from going into my dining room/kitchen area. I don't think the warranty is nearly long enough for how expensive this product is, but at least it has some sort of warranty. I was very excited when our Roomba, which our son named "Max" arrived. I was surprised with how large it was, but for its size, it was quite light. Setup was easy. I had to pull two tabs on the Roomba (which is easily shown in the guide), plug in the charger in a place by a wall without obstacles blocking the Roomba and dock the Roomba to let it fully charge. Once it was charged, I just pushed the button to clean. It was surprisingly quiet, much quieter than my regular vacuum. We were even able to watch TV and could hear what was going on without having to have the volume up really loud. My son and I had a fun time watching it take its funny paths around the living room and kitchen. I had left all doors open upstairs to see how far it would go and what it would do. It briefly went into my son's bedroom and didn't go in my bedroom at all. I have since just had it do one bedroom at a time, closing the room off and setting the Roomba in to do its work. It is able to do the kitchen and living room in one charge, and goes nicely from the docking base and back for that work. In the other rooms, I just set it in there, press the button, and carry it back to the base when it is done. It is quite light and easy to handle. The Roomba, overall, goes quite well throughout the areas of my home. I was surprised that it didn't get stuck at a transition between the kitchen and living room (carpet to linoleum) where a toy ride-on motorcycle was also sitting. It was at quite an angle, but still managed to back its way out of the situation. It also was able to go on a small rug by the door without getting tangled. I noticed sometimes that is just shoved other rugs, rather than going up on them, though. Either way, it is better than getting tangled. It did get confused going around the kitchen chairs, and went back to the same spot a lot, but overall does a good job of getting every paVegma

My Roomba is one of my favorite toys / vacuums in the house. At times it is my best friend who keeps my floor save from the scourge of my dog's shedding and at other times it annoys the heck out of me when it turns on and I realize I forgot to pick up the cords in the bedroom causing a mad dash to shut it off before it's too late and another cord becomes its latest victim. Now by no means is that the Roomba's fault for that last case but rather a reminder that you really do need to change your habits when you have an automatic vacuum. It lets you set its clock and then also a schedule which you can use to have it turn on for certain periods of the day. You can customize it to only go on certain days as well (we turn it off on the weekends to avoid it turning on while we're out of the house if we go for a day trip). The device came with some extra accessories such as a remote control (we never use it) and two blockers which prevent the Roomba from entering that section you aim them at (I haven't used them but maybe I should for my wires). The only significant downsides are: 1) it has a small container for what it pulls up and 2) it gets stuck under most of my furniture. The small container really only hurts us during the shedding seasons for our dogs as it needs to be constantly emptied so I almost would prefer just doing the rugs myself to avoid having to keep walking over to it. It's super easy to empty out though so I never do and just let it keep working. The bigger issue is really it getting stuck so often under my furniture. I have a nice coffee table and it manages to get under it and clean but then can't figure out how to get back out. It tries a few angles and then just decides, "hey I'm stopping here." As a result of that we've had to block off furniture which is a bit annoying. I wish the Roomba, for the price they're asking, could detect if it couldn't get back out of a spot prior to going into it. If it can get in it can get out I promise you. There have been a few times where it drops from carpet to under our tv stand and then just gives up trying the reverse as well. It's an awesome piece of technology and I'm glad we have it I just wish it was more convenient since cleaning it out almost daily during shedding periods and saving it from its self inflicted issues kind of take away the magic of it. One last nice thing I can say about this device is that my dogs actually ignore it. One of my dogs jumps when you touch cardboard boxes and runs across the house whenever a normal vacuum is on (the other is brave and can handle some cleaning) but the skittish one will just sit there and eye the Roomba without moving when it comes by (assuming it doesn't touch her). It's nice to know I can have the device around without bringing her terror daily. Love it and can't wait to see what the next iterations of this will bring.TimoL14

I have never owned a robot vacuum before, so I asked around a little before purchasing the Roomba. Everyone that had a Roomba, loved it. I was going to get the base 650, but after seeing that the 770 had hepa filters and was recommended for dogs, I chose that one since we have two large dogs. We have a pit bull and a doberman (short hair that falls everywhere!) and then also a short haired cat. So I can't speak for how the vacuum does with long hair, but this vacuum has been nothing but amazing since I started using it for the short hair all over the floors. I used to have to vacuum at least 3 times a week (we have all tile floors throughout the living and dining areas) and still you could see the hair on the floors in between vacuuming. AND the dirt at the backdoor from them going in and out was a daily chore of picking up. Now I set it to vacuum Monday-Friday once a day, and then I normally run it when I'm home on the weekends. Our dogs are not running throughout the house when we're not there on the weekdays, so that's why I can set it to run on it's own. I have a feeling that one of them would really like to get their teeth on that vacuum if given the chance (dog owners, please remember this if you have a dog that is not so much a fan of things moving around him/her on it's own, LOL). So on the weekends I run it while picking up the house/laundry/dishes, etc.. and the dogs are fine with it as it does it's thing (one just doesn't let it out of his sight, HA), it's pretty quiet. I wouldn't say it's whisper quiet like Roomba claims (aggravating if trying to watch tv and it's in the same room), but it's much quieter than you would think. I run my roomba every Sunday and sometimes other days as needed. I really love it, and it helps me get my chores done (knowing that I don't need to vacuum really helps!). It's great for getting under furniture (and finding it's way out) and very thorough. My issues with it are that it doesn't always dock itself when it finishes, randomly shuts itself off, doesn't always clean the entire apartment, and remote is virtually useless unless you want to press buttons repeatedly until it registers it. I love that it came with two virtual walls, though I wish they allowed the roomba to come closer to them before it turns around; it's about a good foot from the virtual wall. It takes some time for the roomba to learn the layout, so if you purchase one, run it a few times just so it learns. If you rearrange at all, the roomba will get confused. Spot clean is weird, and I have no real use for it. Hair will get horribly tangled in the rubbed brush, so if you have pets or long hair and shed a lot, be prepared for tedious cleaning. Overall, it saves me time, so I don't mind cleaning it out, and it's very therapeutic to watch. I don't mind the noise, as it's quieter than a vacuum, and it helps me keep track of where it is. THE FIRST TIME YOU USE IT, YOU WILL PROBABLY HAVE TO DUMP IT A FEW TIMES UNLESS YOUR FLOORS ARE IMMACULATE! Be prepared. Otherwise, it's like a pet, and I treat it as such. so far so good !! yay it's my little buddy! i closed it in my carpeted bedroom and it really cleaned it good. i have to figure out the virtual wall. i have an open floor plan so it goes all over the place but still does a good job! it goes for 2hrs.! yay it finds its dock great. it doesn't just spin around in circles! yay i've had it abt 3wks. and used it abt 7X so it has had plenty of time to charge. it will tell you when it has problems. it gets stuck on the bottom of my chair. it stops then beeps then talks a message then shuts off. it will stop when it has too much dirt but it hasn't done that except when i forgot to clean it and used it again …oops! i am 64yrs. old. i need help. hahahog731

OMGOSH, I bought this unit for my daughter and her family for Christmas. They absolutely love it. They have nicknamed the unit Rosie, and they are just so impressed with how well Rosie works. Rosie goes everywhere, cleaning under furniture, beds, on top of rugs, you name it! This saves my daughter so much time & work—she has 3 dogs & 3 children under the age of 3 (she has twins!), and the kids are always crawling around putting everything in their mouths, so this is a God-send—such a game-changer! After using this for a few weeks now Im glad I purchased it. Does a pretty good job other than stopping once in a while in certain areas. Just need to move it & press the clean button & it takes back off. I still use my hand held vacuum once in a while for a deep clean on carpeted rooms. Its great for hardwood & tile floors. It picks up dust & pet hair & my floors look good all of the time. A good product for the money. Its not programmable but a simple press of a button & shes up & running.1tigr2014
