Ok. I was mad when I made the other review, because this thing just made me lose an hour worth of work, because it was so slow. This should have been my calm review.
This is definitely "THE SLOWEST" laptop "EVER" conceived! Slow on startup, slow on web browser, slow on games, etc, etc, etc. Now I KNOW I'm not exaggerating, this thing is SLOW, so much so pretty much nothing ever responds, and Windows Explorer (the big desktop and bottom taskbar with all the apps and Start button) crashes EVERY SINGLE TIME I play Minecraft and doesn't start back up. Went into BIOS and changed every setting I could to try and squeeze every drop of garbage performance I could get out of this thing. On top of that, when nothing responds, it beeps ALL THE TIME in the sequence: beep-pause-beep-pause.
Also, in the mix of all that, all of a sudden my hard drive died, for NO reason, right after it began to get slow and garbage. But THANK GOD for Onedrive, it saved ALL my info, including my lifetime subscription of my antivirus software.
A HUGE milestone though, came through my little brother who uses this for playing Minecraft. So I created another user for him. I'm always complaining about it being so slow, first time he used it, these were his words. "This thing isn't slow!" Found out if you create a new user, it doesn't boot the part for the admin(s) (or other user(s)), so it's a lot faster that way. Also doesn't beep itself to death.
Cons: Slow, nothing ever responds, beeps itself to death, hard drive died (might just be mine, though).

I did some serious research before going with this PC. I wanted decent specs along with quality. The first day I received the PC, I noticed on the upper right hand corner that the bezel is slightly separated. Also, on the left hand side close to the left speaker, the plastic shell makes a click as if the two pieces are not attached properly. The click sounds as If it is suppose to click and snap to something but it does not. Now I do not mess with it since I do not want to make things worse. However, I really took my time into deciding what machine to purchase and compared some pretty nice laptops around the same price point but I went with Dell because I wanted to trust the quality of the device and I want this PC to last me years and also the ability to upgrade hardware. I am not writing this review to expect a refund or a replacement or any compensation at all, I just hope that someone reads this review and takes me serious. A computer is an investment especially if it will be used for work or school which helps progress ones opportunities and in return a good build and good quality inspection should be performed before release a devices purchased for a few hundred dollars.Omar
I must say that I was very surprised with the deal, service and help which I have received from Dell and Ubuntu from their web sites and communities. It is the first time I have bought a laptop from Dell. I had some doubts about their ability to provide a laptop with Ubuntu on it at the price which they were offering. It came with Ubuntu 20.04 lts. I also had qualms about setting it up when it arrived due to the conflict with open source and proprietary drivers, and with what help and advice I would receive as I started to explore the computer and make the usual mistakes and errors in the procedures. I have used Ubuntu for about 10 years, but tended to install it myself on older Windows computers which were past their best and where Microsoft or the manufacturers no longer supplied updated drivers or security updates. I needn't have worried, the set up was fairly simple, the instructions easy to follow and I made sure that I put the Dell Ubuntu back up on to a flash drive when it told me to do so…better to be safe than sorry. The installation and set up went a treat. I was quite surprised with the speed of the setting up of the computer and with the booting up process, with the 8gig ram and the use of an SSD instead of the usual hard drive. It booted up in a few seconds, instead of the 30 seconds to a minute I have experienced with my other laptops. I needn't have worried, after doing a bit of checking out, I see that there has been close collaboration between Dell and Ubuntu, as only open source drivers were installed (though other proprietary drivers were available), so it was nice to have the choice. I have had a couple of crashes, due to my own fault in experimenting and again, I was surprised that the recovery was pretty straight forward and simple and clear instructions given…and I didn't have to use the recovery flash drive to do so. I also managed to install and set up Mint after I installed virtualbox, though I did have some learning to do. After allowing for update of the latest LTS from Ubuntu, 22.04 by changing the updater to anytime from never, I was able to upgrade without a hitch in a very short time. I have no problem recommending this computer to both linux users and windows users, and, if you are not after something really fancy, this laptop should cover all of your usual home needs. Not being a "gamer" I can't speak for how good it would be for that.

I've used this at work for over a year. I'm so pleased with the versatility, design and features, that I ended up buying one for my personal use at home. It does the job of a laptop, tablet, and with the right docking station and network storage, is a great desktop unit as well. As a laptop: great, slim design, Light weight, great battery life, and safety. Smart card reader and finger print scanner. Dual camera and microphone. Decent screen size. As a tablet: a little on the large side and a little heavy. But the computing power of a full blown computer and compatibility of MS Windows. Also, great to watch movies during trips. As a desktop: a good used docking station and AC adapter can be bought for about $25 on ebay, and it comes with HDMI, Display port and 3 USB ports. You can configure 3 displays. The connection to the docking station is not the most robust, but the attachment with the detachable keyword is the best I've seen among all the 2 in 1 combos out there. The quality of the finish on this laptop is excellent as there is nothing with that cheap plastic feel under your fingers. There is only the smallest amount of plastic around the bezels of the screen, which is barely noticeable. Having only had the laptop for a few days, it is still running like a dream as expected, and takes a matter of seconds to start up and shutdown. It has been able to run everything I need it to seamlessly, including the full Microsoft Office suite, a remote desktop, as well as a series of older games on Steam. I did have to purchase a USB/Ethernet-combo extender as I could have done with at least one more USB port and I prefer to have access to the full range of my broadband (which is only possible with an ethernet connection), so keep this in mind, but such a device only cost around £15-£20, so it's a small sacrifice. The built-in MicroSD card reader is also excellent, and I use it frequently to keep my work backed up. I have run a PC Speed Test Tool from UserBenchmark.com to get a general idea of what to expect from the laptop, and it seems that it is well suited for your day-to-day tasks, but will likely struggle with anything graphic-heavy, such as more up-to-date games on higher settings. This is mainly due to the fact that it only has an integrated GPU (graphics card) which is the AMD Radeon Graphics. That being said, you would struggle to get the latest generation AMD Ryzen 7 4700U from any other brand for less money, and trust me I've looked everywhere. If I was better off financially I may have been inclined to pay another £100 or so to pick up the same laptop with a dedicated GPU for better overall performance, however if all you need this laptop for is general light to medium level tasks, without anything seriously graphically demanding, then this is the laptop for you!Joshua
Hi to everyone at Dell. Certain useful features were taken away and some hated features (adaptive screen brightness – which cannot be turned off in Inspiron 5510) has been retained. Sometimes, that adaptive brightness brightens up so slowly that you can actually see it getting brighter by lagging hard. Even after spending so much, this laptop feels cheap due to certain things like lag while trying to increase the brightness, if I click and hold F3 key, the brightness rapidly increased (Dell Inspiron 5559 2016 model), but this 5510 does that at a painfully slow pace. These are some traits of the 3000 series laptops which I intentionally avoid so that I do not get such a bad experience. Dell should not just remove hardware keys (previous song, next song etc) on the Function keys. It used to be so easy to switch songs without having to switch windows while working on something else. What prompted them to remove those keys and have some blank function keys (F9 on my keyboard ) is beyond my understanding.Sriharsha
This computer is not only a super-amount more evolved; amazingly, it is like if someone who was using this computer could magically add whatever they already wanted the computer to be like for them, except -IT'S REAL!!! The new way space is manage, everything is beautiful: the files system; the screen; windows and just the system and processes and the way it runs things – itself; and even the touchpad and keys are fancier than I had imagined possible for computers at all -WOW! Windows 11 is like a piece of clothing for this computer: (meaning) it's like the computer is the perfect size, and so is windows, [not literally the actual (physical) size; but mentionable: the size of everything is also so perfected!] and so this computer is the true model that helps make windows 11 very powerful and executable; and most providing! Also true that of in it's ability to be so well off… There is so much more I could make of this piece of greatness showing into opportunity- but; as I'm only at the "surface" (haha. Ok. I was mad when I made the other review, because this thing just made me lose an hour worth of work, because it was so slow. This should have been my calm review.
This is definitely "THE SLOWEST" laptop "EVER" conceived! Slow on startup, slow on web browser, slow on games, etc, etc, etc. Now I KNOW I'm not exaggerating, this thing is SLOW, so much so pretty much nothing ever responds, and Windows Explorer (the big desktop and bottom taskbar with all the apps and Start button) crashes EVERY SINGLE TIME I play Minecraft and doesn't start back up. Went into BIOS and changed every setting I could to try and squeeze every drop of garbage performance I could get out of this thing. On top of that, when nothing responds, it beeps ALL THE TIME in the sequence: beep-pause-beep-pause.
Also, in the mix of all that, all of a sudden my hard drive died, for NO reason, right after it began to get slow and garbage. But THANK GOD for Onedrive, it saved ALL my info, including my lifetime subscription of my antivirus software.
A HUGE milestone though, came through my little brother who uses this for playing Minecraft. So I created another user for him. I'm always complaining about it being so slow, first time he used it, these were his words. "This thing isn't slow!" Found out if you create a new user, it doesn't boot the part for the admin(s) (or other user(s)), so it's a lot faster that way. Also doesn't beep itself to death.
Cons: Slow, nothing ever responds, beeps itself to death, hard drive died (might just be mine, though).

I did some serious research before going with this PC. I wanted decent specs along with quality. The first day I received the PC, I noticed on the upper right hand corner that the bezel is slightly separated. Also, on the left hand side close to the left speaker, the plastic shell makes a click as if the two pieces are not attached properly. The click sounds as If it is suppose to click and snap to something but it does not. Now I do not mess with it since I do not want to make things worse. However, I really took my time into deciding what machine to purchase and compared some pretty nice laptops around the same price point but I went with Dell because I wanted to trust the quality of the device and I want this PC to last me years and also the ability to upgrade hardware. I am not writing this review to expect a refund or a replacement or any compensation at all, I just hope that someone reads this review and takes me serious. A computer is an investment especially if it will be used for work or school which helps progress ones opportunities and in return a good build and good quality inspection should be performed before release a devices purchased for a few hundred dollars.Omar
I must say that I was very surprised with the deal, service and help which I have received from Dell and Ubuntu from their web sites and communities. It is the first time I have bought a laptop from Dell. I had some doubts about their ability to provide a laptop with Ubuntu on it at the price which they were offering. It came with Ubuntu 20.04 lts. I also had qualms about setting it up when it arrived due to the conflict with open source and proprietary drivers, and with what help and advice I would receive as I started to explore the computer and make the usual mistakes and errors in the procedures. I have used Ubuntu for about 10 years, but tended to install it myself on older Windows computers which were past their best and where Microsoft or the manufacturers no longer supplied updated drivers or security updates. I needn't have worried, the set up was fairly simple, the instructions easy to follow and I made sure that I put the Dell Ubuntu back up on to a flash drive when it told me to do so…better to be safe than sorry. The installation and set up went a treat. I was quite surprised with the speed of the setting up of the computer and with the booting up process, with the 8gig ram and the use of an SSD instead of the usual hard drive. It booted up in a few seconds, instead of the 30 seconds to a minute I have experienced with my other laptops. I needn't have worried, after doing a bit of checking out, I see that there has been close collaboration between Dell and Ubuntu, as only open source drivers were installed (though other proprietary drivers were available), so it was nice to have the choice. I have had a couple of crashes, due to my own fault in experimenting and again, I was surprised that the recovery was pretty straight forward and simple and clear instructions given…and I didn't have to use the recovery flash drive to do so. I also managed to install and set up Mint after I installed virtualbox, though I did have some learning to do. After allowing for update of the latest LTS from Ubuntu, 22.04 by changing the updater to anytime from never, I was able to upgrade without a hitch in a very short time. I have no problem recommending this computer to both linux users and windows users, and, if you are not after something really fancy, this laptop should cover all of your usual home needs. Not being a "gamer" I can't speak for how good it would be for that.

I had to purchase this new machine when one of the hinges failed on my workhorse laptop. I will miss the touch screen, even though I hardly every used it, it was very convenient when I needed it. I do not appreciate the white back-lighting on the silver color keyboard. I cannot see any of the key labels when the laptop screen is lighted. Not a good choice on your part. I wish I could adjust the brightness of the lights.Dave
Overall I'm mostly happy with this laptop. It's light weight and fast. What I'm not happy with is the extreme sensitivity of the track pad which creates errors with typing, even after downloading the recommended app that turns off the track pad while typing and after decreasing the pad's sensitivity via settings. Also the screen will jiggle from sided to side at times (maybe related to receiving notifications or syncing with my cell phone… not sure, but when it starts jiggling, it gets worse and worse until I get it stopped by restarting.) Also when I installed an update that required a restart recently… I lost my cursor on the screen. I was very unhappy that the dell service chat would not screen share and fix my problem. I had already watched several youtubes, done a lot of trouble shooting, and all the chat person wanted me to do was watch more youtubes and trouble shoot more. I repeatedly asked for a screenshare to help with this problem and that request was ignored. After spending hours on this problem, I finally brought my laptop to my computer repair person. He had to reinstall the OS to get the cursor back! Ridiculous!Teresa
I purchased in September 2020. – Have found the laptop slower than I would expect for an SSD with 16GB memory. – The bottom is quite hot after only short use. – The battery runs down ( even on battery saver options) quicker than I expected during normal web browsing tasks. Doesn't appear to be close to benchmark. – Not happy that the only USB 3.1 port doubles as a charging port, so if I'm charging I don't have a port to plug in usb 3.1 cable. – The automatic lighting of the keys on startup, actually makes it harder to see the keys when the laptop starts. This is annoying as you cant turn this off on startup, only after you have logged in. So night time startups are frustrating. Have found many things I don't like but I do like the how light the laptop is. Overall, I thought I had done enough research however for the price I'm not that impressed with many aspects of the performance and features. I would not recommend this laptop.GRicho

I am really happy with the display and the design of this machine, it is very pleasing to the eye. It is very powerful as well, tried few graphically demanding games and it was able to run all of them at Ultra settings. Keyboard typing experience is great for office work, however some of the design aspects could have made it even better. For example, the Numpad does not have PageUp/PageDown, etc. indicators – although they work if you know which keys to play with. Also there is no LED indicator for NumLock Toggle (CapsLock has it integrated in the key) and it does make a lot of difference when you are doing some coding – I want to type 9, but it scrolls the page down if NumLock is Off… The Speakers are decent for the price, they are loud enough to be heard even if they are present in the bottom. More importantly they don't crack up on higher levels. I feel a top firing speaker could have been provided at this price point. But this is me nitpicking. I would rather have a headset for better experiencing movies, entertainment stuff, and in other cases the speaker does the job more than enough. Dell Support is fantastic – The keyboard in my unit was all okay and was working all fine, but to me it seemed that the left part of the spacebar was a bit flushed with the base, and also the next key (Alt). They did not seem to pop out of the base like other keys and seemed like they were in pressed state. It did pop out somewhat and was not entirely in level with the base, but to me it just did not go well with such a beautiful machine. So, I called Dell Support regarding this just to see if those keys could be pushed out slightly. But instead they replaced the entire Keyboard with the Base, this was a nice surprise. Now it looks great! Regarding Battery backup is where I am a bit disappointed. It is not bad but I expected much more backup. It gives around 4+ hour backup with Battery Saver on, around 50% brightness, Bluetooth On, Wifi On, KB Backlit Off and usual office Work. Now, when I turn Battery Saver Off, Brightness around 80-90%, everything on, and watch some videos, web surfing, etc, it gives around 2 hours. I was expecting a bit more backup out of this machine and a low usage backup of 6+ hours. Another thing is it heats up pretty quickly. I had expected this since it has a pretty powerful GPU but since it designed as a professional thin laptop, the thermals will not perform like a gaming laptop with much bigger fans and properly working vents. For me it is not an issue since I wanted this beautiful machine with good graphical capabilities. The SSD provided could have been better considering the price point, but it performs good enough for me. 2000Mbps+ read/ 1300Mbps+ write speeds. The HD Camera is unusable, it is 1MP and even in daylight it is practically of no use. But it is there if required, and it has a privacy shutter, so that is good. I am loving the experience and it provide great value for money overall!Suman
I purchased this laptop from Dell's website and feel compelled to write a review due to my disappointment with this expensive laptop. If you want a touchpad that works properly, then this is NOT the laptop for you. When the touchpad first started playing up very occasionally, only two weeks after purchase, I initially put it down the immature and buggy Windows 11 operating system installed on the laptop. Now here I am a couple of weeks further on again, and the touchpad becomes unresponsive two or three times a day, with the cursor sticking and juddering when you try to move it, all the while somehow causing applications to open. Sometimes you have to use two fingers to get the cursor to move at all rather than one. And yes, BIOS, drivers and Windows itself are fully patched. Support Assist keeps telling me there are no further updates. I have now done research on this, and found that this seems to be a widespread issue with this laptop, reported across many threads on Dell's own forums and also on Reddit. I have tinkered with driver settings and power settings, recommended by various other struggling users on these threads, to no avail. My 30 years of working in IT and working on countless other Dell desktops and laptops has not been of use in fixing this issue. In short, the laptop I received is absolutely not fit for purpose, and I shall have to open a case with Dell Support. Sadly I fear I am just over the 30 day return term otherwise I assure you that I would be returning the laptop and asking for my money back. I hoped for better from a laptop that cost me over £1300. I have gone back to using a 12 year old laptop from another manufacturer as at least on this a basic input device like a touchpad works correctly. Pros: Slim, Slick and Stylish.Add performance and quietness, mix in some touchscreen convenience and you have my ideal laptop: power for the lazy!- Running LR and PS on it with near-desktop performance, which is something my previous power gaming machine was far from. – The cooling is quiet, and when it's revcing up it's pleasant and not ear-scratching.- The touchscreen is very responsive, but no Pen support.- Sound is pleasant, about 90% quality of macbookpro and louder volume.- Large touchpad, no issues with mine so far.- 4 charging ports? Yes please.- sdxc card slot reader is fast and solid. Tested speeds.- Solid build, screen is very sturdy, minimal flex, and for a 17" is surprisingly stiff.- I turned mine into a desktop- DELL hub, 2 external ssds, mouse, pen, tablet, 2 external screens. It works flawless, no lag, no issues.- The 130W power adaptor is more then enough to charge while in heavy use.- Upgradeable!- Overall a premium machine, it breaths quality. Cons: – The i7 processor is all this laptop can trully cool efficiently, understandable in such a slim factor.- 4 USB-C with no HDMI or USB-A is crippling for a power user. I had to get a DELL hub. The provided adaptor is enough for a regular user, though.- Don't get the i9, I get minimal throttle on i7 and can't immagine the cooling handling an i9.- Expensive. Shouldn’t complain since my job proved me with a new computer for 2020 when the one I had been using was over 14 years old.. but this laptop can not handle everything needed for a business. After using a dell laptop for work I bought this. Extremely impress with the quality of the laptop. Large, responsive trackpad, screen has good colours and the extra force needed to press down the power button has saved me accidentally shutting down my laptop (a common theme of my partner’s “other” brand laptop). The camera cover gives good piece of mind and is easy to slide with it’s ridged edge, though firm enough not to move without force applied. Materials are good quality, the “lip” on the bottom of the screen also adds some extra height when on a desk and raises the typing angle to a more comfortable level. Only a few niggles: The lack of a backlit keyboard on the higher spec model, but I find the screen brightness is enough to illuminate the keys enough in a dark room. As the speakers are downward facing, they can be pretty quiet on a soft surface, e.g. a duvet. The speakers are also not the best quality, though are more than enough for casual watching and video calls.Sam
I did some serious research before going with this PC. I wanted decent specs along with quality. The first day I received the PC, I noticed on the upper right hand corner that the bezel is slightly separated. Also, on the left hand side close to the left speaker, the plastic shell makes a click as if the two pieces are not attached properly. The click sounds as If it is suppose to click and snap to something but it does not. Now I do not mess with it since I do not want to make things worse. However, I really took my time into deciding what machine to purchase and compared some pretty nice laptops around the same price point but I went with Dell because I wanted to trust the quality of the device and I want this PC to last me years and also the ability to upgrade hardware. I am not writing this review to expect a refund or a replacement or any compensation at all, I just hope that someone reads this review and takes me serious. A computer is an investment especially if it will be used for work or school which helps progress ones opportunities and in return a good build and good quality inspection should be performed before release a devices purchased for a few hundred dollars.Omar
I must say that I was very surprised with the deal, service and help which I have received from Dell and Ubuntu from their web sites and communities. It is the first time I have bought a laptop from Dell. I had some doubts about their ability to provide a laptop with Ubuntu on it at the price which they were offering. It came with Ubuntu 20.04 lts. I also had qualms about setting it up when it arrived due to the conflict with open source and proprietary drivers, and with what help and advice I would receive as I started to explore the computer and make the usual mistakes and errors in the procedures. I have used Ubuntu for about 10 years, but tended to install it myself on older Windows computers which were past their best and where Microsoft or the manufacturers no longer supplied updated drivers or security updates. I needn't have worried, the set up was fairly simple, the instructions easy to follow and I made sure that I put the Dell Ubuntu back up on to a flash drive when it told me to do so…better to be safe than sorry. The installation and set up went a treat. I was quite surprised with the speed of the setting up of the computer and with the booting up process, with the 8gig ram and the use of an SSD instead of the usual hard drive. It booted up in a few seconds, instead of the 30 seconds to a minute I have experienced with my other laptops. I needn't have worried, after doing a bit of checking out, I see that there has been close collaboration between Dell and Ubuntu, as only open source drivers were installed (though other proprietary drivers were available), so it was nice to have the choice. I have had a couple of crashes, due to my own fault in experimenting and again, I was surprised that the recovery was pretty straight forward and simple and clear instructions given…and I didn't have to use the recovery flash drive to do so. I also managed to install and set up Mint after I installed virtualbox, though I did have some learning to do. After allowing for update of the latest LTS from Ubuntu, 22.04 by changing the updater to anytime from never, I was able to upgrade without a hitch in a very short time. I have no problem recommending this computer to both linux users and windows users, and, if you are not after something really fancy, this laptop should cover all of your usual home needs. Not being a "gamer" I can't speak for how good it would be for that.

Ok. I was mad when I made the other review, because this thing just made me lose an hour worth of work, because it was so slow. This should have been my calm review.
This is definitely "THE SLOWEST" laptop "EVER" conceived! Slow on startup, slow on web browser, slow on games, etc, etc, etc. Now I KNOW I'm not exaggerating, this thing is SLOW, so much so pretty much nothing ever responds, and Windows Explorer (the big desktop and bottom taskbar with all the apps and Start button) crashes EVERY SINGLE TIME I play Minecraft and doesn't start back up. Went into BIOS and changed every setting I could to try and squeeze every drop of garbage performance I could get out of this thing. On top of that, when nothing responds, it beeps ALL THE TIME in the sequence: beep-pause-beep-pause.
Also, in the mix of all that, all of a sudden my hard drive died, for NO reason, right after it began to get slow and garbage. But THANK GOD for Onedrive, it saved ALL my info, including my lifetime subscription of my antivirus software.
A HUGE milestone though, came through my little brother who uses this for playing Minecraft. So I created another user for him. I'm always complaining about it being so slow, first time he used it, these were his words. "This thing isn't slow!" Found out if you create a new user, it doesn't boot the part for the admin(s) (or other user(s)), so it's a lot faster that way. Also doesn't beep itself to death.
Cons: Slow, nothing ever responds, beeps itself to death, hard drive died (might just be mine, though).

I did some serious research before going with this PC. I wanted decent specs along with quality. The first day I received the PC, I noticed on the upper right hand corner that the bezel is slightly separated. Also, on the left hand side close to the left speaker, the plastic shell makes a click as if the two pieces are not attached properly. The click sounds as If it is suppose to click and snap to something but it does not. Now I do not mess with it since I do not want to make things worse. However, I really took my time into deciding what machine to purchase and compared some pretty nice laptops around the same price point but I went with Dell because I wanted to trust the quality of the device and I want this PC to last me years and also the ability to upgrade hardware. I am not writing this review to expect a refund or a replacement or any compensation at all, I just hope that someone reads this review and takes me serious. A computer is an investment especially if it will be used for work or school which helps progress ones opportunities and in return a good build and good quality inspection should be performed before release a devices purchased for a few hundred dollars.Omar
I must say that I was very surprised with the deal, service and help which I have received from Dell and Ubuntu from their web sites and communities. It is the first time I have bought a laptop from Dell. I had some doubts about their ability to provide a laptop with Ubuntu on it at the price which they were offering. It came with Ubuntu 20.04 lts. I also had qualms about setting it up when it arrived due to the conflict with open source and proprietary drivers, and with what help and advice I would receive as I started to explore the computer and make the usual mistakes and errors in the procedures. I have used Ubuntu for about 10 years, but tended to install it myself on older Windows computers which were past their best and where Microsoft or the manufacturers no longer supplied updated drivers or security updates. I needn't have worried, the set up was fairly simple, the instructions easy to follow and I made sure that I put the Dell Ubuntu back up on to a flash drive when it told me to do so…better to be safe than sorry. The installation and set up went a treat. I was quite surprised with the speed of the setting up of the computer and with the booting up process, with the 8gig ram and the use of an SSD instead of the usual hard drive. It booted up in a few seconds, instead of the 30 seconds to a minute I have experienced with my other laptops. I needn't have worried, after doing a bit of checking out, I see that there has been close collaboration between Dell and Ubuntu, as only open source drivers were installed (though other proprietary drivers were available), so it was nice to have the choice. I have had a couple of crashes, due to my own fault in experimenting and again, I was surprised that the recovery was pretty straight forward and simple and clear instructions given…and I didn't have to use the recovery flash drive to do so. I also managed to install and set up Mint after I installed virtualbox, though I did have some learning to do. After allowing for update of the latest LTS from Ubuntu, 22.04 by changing the updater to anytime from never, I was able to upgrade without a hitch in a very short time. I have no problem recommending this computer to both linux users and windows users, and, if you are not after something really fancy, this laptop should cover all of your usual home needs. Not being a "gamer" I can't speak for how good it would be for that.

The quality of the finish on this laptop is excellent as there is nothing with that cheap plastic feel under your fingers. There is only the smallest amount of plastic around the bezels of the screen, which is barely noticeable. Having only had the laptop for a few days, it is still running like a dream as expected, and takes a matter of seconds to start up and shutdown. It has been able to run everything I need it to seamlessly, including the full Microsoft Office suite, a remote desktop, as well as a series of older games on Steam. I did have to purchase a USB/Ethernet-combo extender as I could have done with at least one more USB port and I prefer to have access to the full range of my broadband (which is only possible with an ethernet connection), so keep this in mind, but such a device only cost around £15-£20, so it's a small sacrifice. The built-in MicroSD card reader is also excellent, and I use it frequently to keep my work backed up. I have run a PC Speed Test Tool from UserBenchmark.com to get a general idea of what to expect from the laptop, and it seems that it is well suited for your day-to-day tasks, but will likely struggle with anything graphic-heavy, such as more up-to-date games on higher settings. This is mainly due to the fact that it only has an integrated GPU (graphics card) which is the AMD Radeon Graphics. That being said, you would struggle to get the latest generation AMD Ryzen 7 4700U from any other brand for less money, and trust me I've looked everywhere. If I was better off financially I may have been inclined to pay another £100 or so to pick up the same laptop with a dedicated GPU for better overall performance, however if all you need this laptop for is general light to medium level tasks, without anything seriously graphically demanding, then this is the laptop for you!Joshua
Hi to everyone at Dell. Certain useful features were taken away and some hated features (adaptive screen brightness – which cannot be turned off in Inspiron 5510) has been retained. Sometimes, that adaptive brightness brightens up so slowly that you can actually see it getting brighter by lagging hard. Even after spending so much, this laptop feels cheap due to certain things like lag while trying to increase the brightness, if I click and hold F3 key, the brightness rapidly increased (Dell Inspiron 5559 2016 model), but this 5510 does that at a painfully slow pace. These are some traits of the 3000 series laptops which I intentionally avoid so that I do not get such a bad experience. Dell should not just remove hardware keys (previous song, next song etc) on the Function keys. It used to be so easy to switch songs without having to switch windows while working on something else. What prompted them to remove those keys and have some blank function keys (F9 on my keyboard ) is beyond my understanding.Sriharsha
This computer is not only a super-amount more evolved; amazingly, it is like if someone who was using this computer could magically add whatever they already wanted the computer to be like for them, except -IT'S REAL!!! The new way space is manage, everything is beautiful: the files system; the screen; windows and just the system and processes and the way it runs things – itself; and even the touchpad and keys are fancier than I had imagined possible for computers at all -WOW! Windows 11 is like a piece of clothing for this computer: (meaning) it's like the computer is the perfect size, and so is windows, [not literally the actual (physical) size; but mentionable: the size of everything is also so perfected!] and so this computer is the true model that helps make windows 11 very powerful and executable; and most providing! Also true that of in it's ability to be so well off… There is so much more I could make of this piece of greatness showing into opportunity- but; as I'm only at the "surface" (haha. Gave my old Dell to my grandson. SLEEK. Efficient. Everything about this computer is fast. When I bring up a complex website, it loads immediately. With my other computer (2 years old and a hard drive) there would be a lag time for the same website. This is the first SSD I have owned; so that is part of the speed. Also, I have a 200Mbps internet connection. The display is very sharp, and the sound is clear and loud enough not to have to use headphones unless I need to (e.g. at the library). The only thing slightly negative about this laptop is the battery only last 5 hours before it is totally drained, so effectively it is a 4 hour battery.Mike
The biggest asset of this machine is the 128GB PCIe NVMe SSD. This alone makes this laptop appear to be very quick in running multiple tasks. I have two areas of concern. 1. When speaking using Zoom, the first few words are not picked up by the microphone, but once speech has begun, the mic works well. It's as if the mic is on some kind of standby mode until it detects speech. It is just simply much too slow to start picking up speech. 2. The touch pad is much too far to the left. With one, continuously smooth surface, it is nearly impossible to operate the buttons without looking to make sure your finger is on the correct part of the touch pad. The 1TB spinning hard drive is a great amount of storage space for less frequently accessed data. The wireless networking is excellent and is compatible with current protocols.Jim C

I have no problem recommending this computer to both linux users and windows users, and, if you are not after something really fancy, this laptop should cover all of your usual home needs. Not being a "gamer" I can't speak for how good it would be for that.

For $44.00 this is a great Chromebook for someone that can’t afford a IPad it can be used for most of the thinks you would do online like checking email banking etc. It’s very old and slow, the touchscreen doesn’t work that good but they work I ordered 4 of these after getting one for friends in the Philippines where the internet is slow anyway and these would be prefect over there. If you think your getting a newer model laptop this isn’t it.Ken
What a disappointment. this was a gift and when i opened it to make sure it was "giftable" I immediately noticed lines in the screen, not scratches, but from the electronics below the surface. Very noticeable when the power was on or off. It was pointless to inspect amy other features. Sent it back.Lu
