This is a counterfeit–did not come in the Tubshroom packaging (instead just a plastic unsealed bag), does not have the Tubshroom logo (has no logos at all), the top is warped, and the silicone molding is of poor quality–has lots of flash (silicone spillover) which will impede the intended flow of water. The only benefit is that the clog happens at the top of the drain and can be easily removed rather than going all the way down and clogging the pipes. When we do a deep clean of the shower and take the drain cover off, the shower shroom is so gross, full of soap scum and slime. This product does as it says and catches hair. Long hair, short hair it catches it all. There is one thing about it that may make it seem like it isn't working. When I first installed it the water was backing up and we were standing in a puddle of nasty water. I didn't know what I had done wrong because I thought I followed the directions and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to install it. What I found is it needed to be tweaked just a bit. While it is in the drain and the water is backing up, slowly turn it and wait to see if the water starts draining. What I figure is happening is the thin walls are stopping the water from swirling around and so slightly turning it will cause the water to flow properly. Once I figured this little secret out, I have had zero problems. The water drains better than originally and it catches all the hair to boot! Just make sure you clean it off every once in a while and reinstall it the same way by tweaking it and you should have no problems. I had issues with the standard metal (pull up push down) bath plug, so I pulled it out. This is a long hair household, so the drain gets plugged frequently, and it was hard to fish it out around the old plug. The cylinder on the bottom of this flex plug is smaller than the drain itself, but the wide flap generously covers the area around the drain, so it completely plugs the water during baths. This also makes it easy to pull out & remove hair. I don’t have a problem with “how difficult it is to remove the hair”. Just take some scissors, remove the hair, clean the plug, and put it back. It’s easy. You push down and pull up the flap in the centre to drain water. I haven’t had a problem with how quickly the water drains during showers or baths…just clean the hair at the rate you should, and would have to with any other drain plug. It’s been a month, and I haven’t noticed any smells…but I will be curious about how this holds up in a year. I already had a super cheapy version I was using until it arrived because they are not sold in stores. It fit well inside of the drain so I was excited it would do its job and catch all of the hair. First shower with it, it caused the water to back up because it couldnt drain quick enough through the holes on top. I ignored that because in my mind, it was catching all of the hair better than the junk Id had so it would prevent me from having to pay another plumber to clear the drain. This is my 2nd purchase so I could have them in 2 bathrooms. My first is a couple years old and still fine. It catches hair in the shower to help prevent clogs. The shower drain in our 40-year old southern CA retirement home was loud and nearly plugged with accumulated hair. Replacing the shower drain would be expensive and the hole was an older style with a 3.25" opening. After removing the old cover and cleaning out the drain I simply used silicone to attach the Danco 10529 to the square stainless steel rim. The noise is greatly reduced, no more dripping sounds and my wife's long hair is trapped for easy cleaning.wattoclone
This drain cover was intended to replace an irregular sized, plastic, snap-on drain cover that had broken. It worked, but we had to bend the metal prongs on the underside of the rim in order for it to sit flush. The little basket does collect a LOT of hair and debris…but it almost collects too much (ie; I''m good with letting towel lint go down the drain). Because the little plastic, detachable basket it so efficient at catching debris, it fills up quickly and cannot be emptied out. It has to be thrown out and replaced. Knowing that this basket will have to be changed frequently makes it less ideal. I''d actually prefer to clean the drain out the old fashioned way.

So I’ll admit I bought this more so to match my beach themed shower curtain, as thought it would add a little whimsy to my bath. Now, having really long hair that requires a weekly fishing expedition to yank the hair collection from the drain, I was hopeful this would do the trick to catch the hair. This just doesn't work. Like another reviewer, I tried this on multiple shower & tub drains. The mini suction cups don't stick well, despite cleaning the surfaces thoroughly. But whether they stick or not, so much hair gets under this "cover." There was very little hair on top of this item, there was some wound around the mini suction cups (which seem to do a better job catching hair than the top), but most hair and soap scum was underneath on the drain (or down the drain). There is also a surprising amount of residual scum and mildew on the item for only using this a few times. It's too bad because it's really cute and this rubbery plastic won't rust. Definitely do not recommend this item, and wish I could return.smartgirl22

This is an ok product. It does catch most hair, but not all. It fills up fast. It doesn't take long for too much hair to get on it. It really needs cleaned after every shower. Which I think is a pain, but my husband says it's still easier than having having to remove hair from the actual drain (which I still have to do every few months bc some hair still gets through).Jessica

1) This bathroom drain hair stopper strains hair better than anything else I have tried. Some family members are unhelpful about removing hair from simpler hair strainers when done in the shower. this one holds more hair until I happen to come into the bathroom and can remove their hair myself. This strainer does a pretty good job not letting hair go underneath it. 2) This strainer stays put. Other strainers float up when the water does not drain out of the tub well. 3) This strainer has enough surface area for hair to stick to it whiles still having open holes, whereas other strainers clog up, so that water cannot drain. If a strainer doesn't drain after catching the hair, my family members remove it and let all their hair go down the drain. Laundry: If you use it to strain lint and dog hair when doing laundry, the lint and dog hair can be too much if you have lots of dog hair in your house. But that's not what it was designed for. I also use one in the laundry sink anyway. I trimmed it to fit the curve of the sink.Christi
Sooooo this drain stopper catches some hair, but definitely not all and it's not very effective. It only captures hair in that center hole, so the water has to be high enough for the water to drift over that hole and settle into the center. Also, once the water in your tub gets low enough, it stops draining, because the edges of the stopper kind of suction to the basin, preventing water from flowing through, so it kind of just pools around the drain. I can't confirm for sure, but I think this stopper also slows the water drainage in general. My tub tends to fill up to like half calf as I'm taking a shower and it takes forever to drain. I could chalk it up to general drain issues, but it's never this bad when I don't have the stopper in. I'd definitely pass on this item. I've used some version a the tub shroom before, and that works much better.Randi

This works great. The drain has one of those pop-up stoppers that has a knob on top and you pull up and turn to lock it open. This has a suction cup in the middle that sticks to the knob. Its rubber, very flexible, so it conforms to the slight curve at the front of the tub. Hopefully this is going to cut down on having to use the drain cleaner because of my long hair. The product is okay as an inexpensive temporary fix, but it’s cheaply made. It came with two plastic baskets. The first one developed a crack within two days, so that the stopper would not stay in the up position. The second basket seems to be intact so far. It’s fine for filling up the tub for a bath and is good for catching hair in the drain, but we usually remove the stopper for showers rather than try to get it to stay in the up position.Valise13
I bought this for my bathtub because the previous owner put a pop up drain cover that did not seal to hold water for a bath. When I saw this product and how easy it was to install and use I purchased it. I held onto it for a little while since I wasn’t sure how to remove the old one. Once that was done I attempted to use this and tried to fit it into my drain but it was just a tad too large rendering it useless for me. Unfortunately I took too long for this process and can’t return it. So my advice is to make sure you measure the drain opening carefully before you purchase this. This product appears to be vinyl. The one I got last year seams to be of silicone like kitchen items. The older one was more floppy, stayed in place better, and above all the edges didn't curl up like the newer style does. I still give this a good revue because I am hoping that it does the job. I have 2 daughters with long hair and the shower/tub drain was always clogging with their hair. Have been using the Tub Shrum fir quite sometime. You shouls see my collection of sink, tub, and shiwer caters and plugs. This little baby does the job I have needed!! The others move, wash off drain, or are in the way, bulky, and useless. At least on my tub and sinks.. Nothing gets by it, and it STAYS in place! THE CONCEPT OF THIS ITEM IS GREAT BUT I COULDN'T GET IT TO STAY IN THE DRAIN HOLE. EVERY TIME I TOOK MY HAND FROM IT, IT WOULD POP UP OUT OF THE HOLE, I THINK THE CATCHES WERE NOT MADE CORRECTLY AND IT JUST COULDN'T HOLD ON TO THE SIDES OF THE DRAIN HOLE. It works as expected; keeps all hair and gunk from going down the drain and doesn't slow the drain rate that much. It's a little gross to clean but it's better than having to stick one of those snake things down the drain. My only complaint is that the silicone gets pretty gross after awhile. Usually love oxo products but this one fell short. Started to cause water backup issues in our tub and then started growing mold within the silicone after a year. Doesn't drain water fast enough so we started to stand in a puddle of water. You have to continuously clean it every day for it to work properly. This does the job in a shower without pop up drain. Some does escape but gets casught below- much less than we used to get. If does get stuffed with foam and slows the drainage slightly but in a quadrent shaped shower its fine. We empty it every other day to prevent clogging. If you arent expecting to do that it would be disappointing. It stays in place if you dont knock into it. No suction. Wasnt expecting it to really.
I have always lost a good amount of hair while showering, but I recently had a baby and since then I have been losing hair profusely. Before the OXO drain protector I was clogging the drain weekly. This drain protector works just as it should- it catches hair and other debris perfectly. I have a flat drain and it works fine for that. I do feel like the tub drains a little slower when I have it on, but that’s not a huge deal. I actually tested this while in the tub as well, and surprisingly it is weighted so it even stays put in a full tub of water if you wanted. Although I don’t like touching the hair, the hair does remove easily when you have to clean it- which is every two days or so for us. After removing the hair, I just spray it off in the sink. For silicone, it actually feels really well made and high quality. It matches my tub really well and looks sleek and modern.
